Highlights A composite thermal interface material with three-dimensional hybrid carbon network-reinforced polydimethylsiloxane was proposed. The cooperative regulation of thermal conductivity and mechanical properties was achieved by controlling the assembly process of micro-nano scale unit carbon materials. The orthotropic continuous carbon structure endowed the composites with in-plane and out-of-plane thermal conductivities of up to 113.61 and 24.37 W m−1 K−1, respectively. The excellent compressibility and adhesion properties cooperatively improved the effective thermal conductivity by more than an order of magnitude.

Choline acetyltransferase (ChAT)-positive neurons in neural stem cell (NSC) niches can evoke adult neurogenesis (AN) and restore impaired brain function after injury, such as acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, the relevant mechanism by which ChAT+ neurons develop in NSC niches is poorly understood. Our RNA-seq analysis revealed that dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase 1 (DDAH1), a hydrolase for asymmetric NG,NG-dimethylarginine (ADMA), regulated genes responsible for the synthesis and transportation of acetylcholine (ACh) (Chat, Slc5a7 and Slc18a3) after stroke insult. The dual-luciferase reporter assay further suggested that DDAH1 controlled the activity of ChAT, possibly through hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α). KC7F2, an inhibitor of HIF-1α, abolished DDAH1-induced ChAT expression and suppressed neurogenesis. As expected, DDAH1 was clinically elevated in the blood of AIS patients and was positively correlated with AIS severity. By comparing the results among Ddah1 general knockout (KO) mice, transgenic (TG) mice and wild-type (WT) mice, we discovered that DDAH1 upregulated the proliferation and neural differentiation of NSCs in the subgranular zone (SGZ) under ischemic insult. As a result, DDAH1 may promote cognitive and motor function recovery against stroke impairment, while these neuroprotective effects are dramatically suppressed by NSC conditional knockout of Ddah1 in mice.

Abstract Background & aims Complications after laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) are important factors affecting the prognosis of patients, especially for complex hepatobiliary diseases. The present study aimed to evaluate the value of a three-dimensional (3D) printed dry-laboratory model in the precise planning of LLR for complex hepatobiliary diseases. Methods Patients with complex hepatobiliary diseases who underwent LLR were preoperatively enrolled, and divided into two groups according to whether using a 3D-printed dry-laboratory model (3D vs. control group). Clinical variables were assessed and complications were graded by the Clavien-Dindo classification. The Comprehensive Complication Index (CCI) scores were calculated and compared for each patient. Multivariable analysis was performed to determine the risk factors of postoperative complications. Results Sixty-two patients with complex hepatobiliary diseases underwent the precise planning of LLR. Among them, thirty-one patients acquired the guidance of a 3D-printed dry-laboratory model, and others were only guided by traditional enhanced CT or MRI. The results showed no significant differences between the two groups in baseline characters. Background Hepatic macrophages play a vital role in the defense mechanisms and maintaining the internal environment stability of body, and are also major cellular components involved in liver injury and repair. Macrophages derived from hematopoietic stem cells exhibit distinct gene regulation patterns compared to resident macrophages in the liver. More than 90% of primary liver cancer occurs on the basis of cirrhosis, and the dynamic changes of macrophages in the progression of cirrhosis to hepatocellular carcinoma are worth exploring. Objective To analyze the transcriptomic differences of hepatic macrophages originating from diverse sources, analyze the dynamic pattern of macrophage changes in liver cirrhosis and liver cancer progression, and explore potential strategies for preventing the progression of liver cancer. Methods In this study, single-cell transcriptomics data of healthy, cirrhotic and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The healthy and liver fibrosis data were obtained from the GSE136103 dataset of the GEO database, which included samples from five healthy liver tissues and five liver cirrhosis tissues. The HCC data were obtained from the GSE149614 dataset of the GEO database, which consisted of 21 samples from ten HCC patients. Utilizing the Seurat package, a clustering analysis was conducted on the transcriptomic data derived from liver fibrosis and HCC samples to identify distinct cell types. Notably, three distinctive clusters of macrophage subtypes were identified within the fibrosis samples, from which the top 200 marker genes were extracted. Metascape online analysis software was applied to functionally analyze each subcluster-specific expressed gene. Subgroup-specific expressed genes in liver fibrosis were extracted, and the function of macrophages in cirrhosis was explored by KEGG functional analysis. The CellChat software package was utilized to analyze intercellular interactions within liver fibrosis and HCC single-cell transcriptome data, differences in macrophage communication between cirrhosis and HCC samples were compared. Additionally, normal, fibrotic and cancerous macrophages were extracted, and batch effect correction was performed using the Harmony package. Subsequently, the Monocle package was employed for pseudo-time analysis to construct the developmental trajectory of macrophages spanning from a healthy state to fibrosis and eventually to the HCC microenvironment. The limma package was utilized to find genes that are continuously up-regulated and down-regulated during the evolution of macrophages from healthy state to cirrhotic state and finally to HCC, and functional enrichment analysis was performed. Results Unsupervised clustering was performed, and a total of three macrophage subclusters (designated as Mac1, Mac2, Mac3) were identified based on the expression patterns of marker genes. Mac1 originates from tissue-resident macrophages (Kupffer cells). Mac2 and Mac3 derived from blood monocytes and their numbers were significantly increased in cirrhotic tissue. Mac1 in cirrhotic tissue showed up-regulation of adaptive immune system-related functions. Mac2 and Mac3 subgroups show down-regulation of phagosome-related functions and antigen presentation functions. There were significant differences in communication between macrophages and other cell types in cirrhotic tissue and HCC tissue. Certain intercellular communication occurs only in cirrhotic macrophages, including cell communication of signaling pathways such as IFN-Ⅱ and CD40. After batch effect correction, pseudo-time series analysis was performed on macrophages from healthy liver, liver cirrhosis and HCC, the results suggest that there is a specific temporal relationship between the three groups of macrophages. This study identified 81 genes that were continuously down-regulated during the process, however, no genes were identified that were continuously up-regulated during the evolution of healthy-cirrhotic-HCC macrophage. Functional analysis suggested that the continuously down-regulated genes are functionally enriched for immune responses to bacteria. Conclusion Cirrhotic macrophages can be divided into three subgroups, of which Mac1 derived from liver-resident Kupffer cells and Mac2 and Mac3 derive from blood monocytes. Many immune-related cell communications in liver cirrhosis, such as IFN-Ⅱ and CD40 pathways, disappear in HCC. There is a continuous down-regulation of immune responses to bacteria in the evolution of healthy -cirrhotic-HCC macrophages, which may exacerbate the destructive effect of portal hypertension-induced gut microbiota displacement. For patients with liver cirrhosis, early treatment of portal hypertension-induced intestinal leakage (leaky gut) may be an important treatment strategy.

The fine modeling of the lunar gravity field is a fundamental task for establishing lunar altitude references, conducting research on lunar interior structure, and other scientific endeavors. The lunar gravity field model constructed solely based on spacecraft orbit data has limited spatial resolution, making it challenging to meet the demands of fine gravity field research. The acquisition of high-resolution terrain models presents new opportunities for the study of precise lunar gravity fields. This paper reviews the current status and advancements in fine lunar gravity field modeling, including research efforts and evaluation methods for global lunar gravity field models, principles and technologies for fine gravity field modeling, as well as related research outcomes. On this basis, this paper systematically summarizes the key theoretical issues and technical challenges in the theory of lunar gravity field modeling based on high-resolution terrain models. These include data updating, error correction in high-frequency gravity field modeling, calculation efficiency, and the series divergence problem in spherical harmonic analysis. In addition, future research directions are discussed. This work will provide references for gravity field research on the Moon and other terrestrial planets.

Abstract Introduction Recent studies have suggested a potential association between methotrexate use and an increased risk of dementia. However, the causal relationship between methotrexate and dementia remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the potential causal effect of methotrexate use on the risk of dementia using a two-sample Mendelian randomization (TSMR) approach. Methods We conducted a TSMR study using summary statistics from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of methotrexate use and dementia. We obtained genetic instruments for methotrexate use from a large-scale GWAS meta-analysis and genetic instruments for dementia from a separate GWAS meta-analysis. We performed several statistical analyses, including inverse-variance weighted (IVW), weighted median (WM1), weighted mode (WM2), and MR-Egger regression methods, to estimate the causal effect of methotrexate on dementia risk. Results Our TSMR analysis showed a significant positive association between genetic predisposition to methotrexate use and dementia risk. The IVW method estimated a causal odds ratio (OR) of 0.476 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.362–0.626] per unit increase in the log odds ratio of methotrexate use. WM1, WM2, and MR-Egger methods provided consistent results. Conclusion The findings of this mendelian randomization (MR) study suggest a potential causal effect of methotrexate use on the risk of dementia. However, further research is needed to validate these findings and explore the underlying mechanisms. Since methotrexate is widely prescribed for various autoimmune diseases, a better understanding of its potential impact on dementia risk is crucial for optimizing treatment strategies and addressing potential adverse effects.

Abstract Background Malnutrition is not uncommon among the elderly undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) and is related to increased complications. Previous studies have shown that the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) predicts outcomes in various populations. Nevertheless, the research exploring the correlation between GNRI and postoperative outcomes in PD is scarce. This study aimed to investigate the preoperative malnutrition, as measured by GNRI, on outcomes in elderly patients undergoing PD. Materials and Methods This retrospective analysis enrolled 144 elderly patients underwent PD for periampullary tumors from November 2016 to December 2021. Patients were stratified based on the GNRI value: high/moderate nutrition risk (GNRI ≤ 92, N = 54), low nutrition risk (92 98, N = 55). Perioperative outcomes and postoperative surgical complications were compared between these groups. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed on major postoperative complications and prolonged postoperative length of stay (PLOS). Abstract Phosphorus (P) limitation of ecosystem processes is widespread in terrestrial habitats. While a few auxiliary metabolic genes (AMGs) in bacteriophages from aquatic habitats are reported to have the potential to enhance P-acquisition ability of their hosts, little is known about the diversity and potential ecological function of P-acquisition genes encoded by terrestrial bacteriophages. Here, we analyze 333 soil metagenomes from five terrestrial habitat types across China and identify 75 viral operational taxonomic units (vOTUs) that encode 105 P-acquisition AMGs. These AMGs span 17 distinct functional genes involved in four primary processes of microbial P-acquisition. Among them, over 60% (11/17) have not been reported previously. We experimentally verify in-vitro enzymatic activities of two pyrophosphatases and one alkaline phosphatase encoded by P-acquisition vOTUs. Thirty-six percent of the 75 P-acquisition vOTUs are detectable in a published global topsoil metagenome dataset. Further analyses reveal that, under certain circumstances, the identified P-acquisition AMGs have a greater influence on soil P availability and are more dominant in soil metatranscriptomes than their corresponding bacterial genes. Overall, our results reinforce the necessity of incorporating viral contributions into biogeochemical P cycling.

Abstract Facile and efficient photocatalysts using sunlight, as well as fast and sensitive surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates, are urgently needed for practical degradation of tetracycline (TC). To meet these requirements, a new paradigm for PI/TiO2/Ag organic‒inorganic ternary flexible microfibers based on semiconducting titanium dioxide (TiO2), the noble metal silver (Ag) and the conjugated polymer polyimide (PI) was developed by engineering a simple method. Under sunlight, the photocatalytic characteristics of the PI/TiO2/Ag flexible microfibers containing varying amounts of Ag quantum dots (QDs) were evaluated with photocatalytic degradation of TC in aqueous solution. The results demonstrated that the amount of Ag affected the photocatalytic activity. Among the tested samples, PI/TiO2/Ag-0.07 (93.1%) exhibited a higher photocatalytic degradation rate than PI/TiO2 (25.7%), PI/TiO2/Ag-0.05 (77.7%), and PI/TiO2/Ag-0.09 (63.3%). This observation and evaluation conducted in the present work strongly indicated a charge transfer mechanism. Moreover, the PI/TiO2/Ag-0.07 flexible microfibers exhibited highly sensitive SERS detection, as demonstrated by the observation of the Raman peaks for TC even at an extremely low concentration of 10–10 moles per liter. The excellent photocatalytic performance and SERS detection capability of the PI/TiO2/Ag flexible microfibers arose from the Schottky barrier formed between Ag and TiO2 and also from the outstanding plasmonic resonance and visible light absorptivity of Ag, along with immobilization by the PI. The successful synthesis of PI/TiO2/Ag flexible microfibers holds significant promise for sensitive detection and efficient photocatalytic degradation of antibiotics.

Abstract Cell bionic culture requires the construction of cell growth microenvironments. In this paper, mechanical force and electrical stimulations are applied to the cells cultured on the surface of the piezoelectric laminated micro-beam driven by an excitation voltage. Based on the extended dielectric theory, the electromechanical microenvironment regulating model of the current piezoelectric laminated micro-beam is established. The variational principle is used to obtain the governing equations and boundary conditions. The differential quadrature method and the iterative method are used to solve two boundary value problems for cantilever beams and simply supported beams. In two cases, the mechanical force and electrical stimulations applied to the cells are analyzed in detail and the microscale effect is investigated. This study is meaningful for improving the quality of cell culture and promoting the cross-integration of mechanics and biomedicine.

Abstract Background Prenatal diagnosis of Berry syndrome, a rare combination of cardiac anomalies including aortopulmonary window (APW), aortic origin of the right pulmonary artery (RPA), interrupted aortic arch (IAA), hypoplastic aortic arch, or coarctation of the aorta (COA), poses a significant challenge. Due to the rarity of the disease, and the limited case reports available to features the complex malformation of Berry syndrome postpartum, this article introduces an innovative approach to visually showcase this unusual disease. The proposed method provides a comprehensive display of the structural deformities, offering valuable insights for clinical practitioners seeking to comprehend this condition. Case presentation In this report, we present a case where fetal echocardiography aided in diagnosing Berry syndrome, which was later confirmed through postpartum cardiovascular casting. Our experience highlights the importance of using the three-vessel view to diagnose APW and aortic origin of the right pulmonary artery. Additionally, obtaining true cross-sectional and sagittal views by continuously scanning from the three-vessel-trachea view to the long-axis view of the aortic arch is necessary to image IAA or coarctation of the aortic arch. Conclusions Early and accurate prenatal diagnosis of Berry syndrome is feasible and our cardiovascular cast can perfectly display the microvascular morphology of the fetal heart, which may have great application prospects for postpartum diagnosis and teaching of complex cardiac abnormalities.

Abstract Background Atrial fibrillation (AF) has been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular death, overall mortality and heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The present study investigated the additive effects of paroxysmal AF on left ventricular (LV) function and deformation in T2DM patients with or without AF using the cardiovascular magnetic resonance feature tracking (CMR-FT) technique. Methods The present study encompassed 225 T2DM patients differentiated by the presence or absence of paroxysmal AF [T2DM(AF+) and T2DM(AF−), respectively], along with 75 age and sex matched controls, all of whom underwent CMR examination. LV function and global strains, including radial, circumferential and longitudinal peak strain (PS), as well as peak systolic and diastolic strain rates (PSSR and PDSR, respectively), were measured and compared among the groups. Multivariable linear regression analysis was used to examine the factors associated with LV global strains in patients with T2DM. Results The T2DM(AF+) group was the oldest, had the highest LV end‑systolic volume index, lowest LV ejection fraction and estimated glomerular filtration rate compared to the control and T2DM(AF−) groups, and presented a shorter diabetes duration and lower HbA1c than the T2DM(AF−) group. Abstract Background Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been proved to play crucial roles in the development of various cancers. However, the molecular mechanism of circGLIS3 involved in gastric cancer (GC) tumorigenesis has not been elucidated. Methods The higher expression level of circGLIS3 was identified in GC through RNA sequencing and subsequent tissue verification using Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). A series of functional experiments in vitro and in vivo were performed to evaluated the effects of circGLIS3 on tumor growth and metastasis in GC. The interaction and regulation of circGLIS3/miR-1343-3p/PGK1 axis was confirmed by RNA pulldown, western blot, and rescue experiments. RIP and western blot were performed to demonstrate the role of circGLIS3 in regulating phosphorylation of VIMENTIN. We then used qRT-PCR and co culture system to trace circGLIS3 transmission via exosomal communication and identify the effect of exosomal circGLIS3 on gastric cancer and macrophages. Finally, RIP experiments were used to determine that EIF4A3 regulates circGLIS3 expression. Results CircGLIS3(hsa_circ_0002874) was significantly upregulated in GC tissues and high circGLIS3 expression was associated with advanced TNM stage and lymph node metastasis in GC patients. We discovered that overexpression of circGLIS3 promoted GC cell proliferation, migration, invasion in vitro and in vivo, while suppression of circGLIS3 exhibited the opposite effect. Mechanistically, circGLIS3 could sponge miR-1343-3p and up-regulate the expression of PGK1 to promote GC tumorigenesis. We also found that circGLIS3 reduced the phosphorylation of VIMENTIN at ser 83 site by binding with VIMENTIN. Moreover, it was proven that exosomal circGLIS3 could promote gastric cancer metastasis and the M2 type polarization of macrophages. In the final step, the mechanism of EIF4A3 regulating the generation of circGLIS3 was determined. Conclusion Our findings demonstrate that circGLIS3 promotes GC progression through sponging miR-1343-3p and regulating VIMENTIN phosphorylation. CircGLIS3 is a potential therapeutic target for GC patients.

Along with the development of 5G network and Internet of Things technologies, there has been an explosion in personalized healthcare systems. When the 5G and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is introduced into diabetes management architecture, it can increase the efficiency of existing systems and complications of diabetes can be handled more effectively by taking advantage of 5G. In this article, we propose a 5G-based Artificial Intelligence Diabetes Management architecture (AIDM), which can help physicians and patients to manage both acute complications and chronic complications. The AIDM contains five layers: the sensing layer, the transmission layer, the storage layer, the computing layer, and the application layer. We build a test bed for the transmission and application layers. Specifically, we apply a delay-aware RA optimization based on a double-queue model to improve access efficiency in smart hospital wards in the transmission layer. In application layer, we build a prediction model using a deep forest algorithm. Results on real-world data show that our AIDM can enhance the efficiency of diabetes management and improve the screening rate of diabetes as well.

Aiming at the practical application of Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) in underwater combat, this paper proposes a battlefield ambush scene with UUV considering ocean current. Firstly, by establishing these mathematical models of ocean current environment, target movement, and sonar detection, the probability calculation methods of single UUV searching target and multiple UUV cooperatively searching target are given respectively. Then, based on the Hybrid Quantum-behaved Particle Swarm Optimization (HQPSO) algorithm, the path with the highest target search probability is found. Finally, through simulation calculations, the influence of different UUV parameters and target parameters on the target search probability is analyzed, and the minimum number of UUVs that need to be deployed to complete the ambush task is demonstrated, and the optimal search path scheme is obtained. The method proposed in this paper provides a theoretical basis for the practical application of UUV in the future combat.

To investigate the effects of different aging times on the volatile flavor substances of rosy vinegar, headspace solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS), principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA) were used to investigate the physicochemical and volatile flavor components of fresh, one-year-old, three-year-old and ten-year-old samples. The results showed that the content of reducing sugars and amino acid nitrogen increased during aging, and promoted the flavor and color development of rosy vinegar. A total of 79 volatile flavor substances were detected in rosy vinegar by HS-SPME-GC-MS, among which most of the esters were degraded during aging, while the content of carbonyl compounds and pyrazines increased significantly during aging. 13 volatile compounds with odor activity value greater than 1 were calculated in rosy vinegar by odor threshold value, and the main odor-presenting compounds differed in different aging periods. Principal component and cluster analyses revealed significant separation among the rosy vinegar samples at different aging periods, indicated that the aging time has an important influence on the composition of volatile substances in rosy vinegar.

As improving low-performing schools has become a critical strategy to achieve educational equity in China, local educational departments have implemented various school collaboration programs. Drawing on international literature and empirical data from in-depth interviews and policy documents in two Chinese urban districts, this multiple-case qualitative study examines local educational departments' roles in the school collaboration implementation. Our analysis shows that both local educational departments set clear district-wide expectations of school collaborations. While various strategies were implemented to improve low-performing schools, limited opportunities were provided for school-based educators to contribute to decision-making processes. Both districts relied more on structural changes to create conditions to improve teaching and learning, and lacked long-term investments in building professional capacity and fostering data-use cultures. Finally, local educational departments' goals of equity and school improvement were sometimes overshadowed by other political and economic priorities. This study offers new evidence on the leadership roles that local educational departments play in Chinese school reform implementation, thus responding to a scarcity of district-level empirical research in Chinese literature. It also expands the existing international research base that is largely Western-focused and not necessarily applicable to all countries, especially developing countries where school improvement efforts are often situated in conflicting policy systems.
