Abstract

High-power impulse magnetron sputtering boasts high ionization, large coating density, and good film adhesion but suffers from drawbacks such as low deposition rates, unstable discharge, and different ionization rates for different materials. Herein, a cylindrical cathode in which the special cathode shape introduces the hollow cathode effect to enhance the discharge is described. To study the discharge performance of the cylindrical cathode, a hollow cathode effect modified time-dependent global model is established to fit the discharge current pulses. The simulation results indicate that the cylindrical cathode has relatively large Hall parameters of 24 (700 V) to 26 (1000 V). Compared to the planar cathode, the cylindrical cathode has a larger plasma density as a result of the hollow cathode effect. In addition, the ionization rate and ion return probability increase by about 3.0% and 4.3%, respectively. Particle transport derived from the plasma diffusion model shows that the magnetic field enables further diffusion of ions than atoms, resulting in nearly pure ion deposition on the substrate. The deposition rate and ion current measured experimentally support the simulation model and results, and this model provides a universal platform to simulate plasma systems with similar structures. Abstract

ABSTRACTReaction polarization of the Li(NixMnyCoz)O2(NMC) cathode materials can be significantly alleviated by depolarization and pre-lithiation, which respectively produce electrolyte protective layer and double-layer lithium structure. These structures can not only prevent Ni ions from dissolution but also increase the discharge capacity. However, as the size of the regular NMC particles is relatively large, the effect of depolarization and pre-lithiation is not significant. This work tries to prepare NMC with nanoscale structure and high specific surface area by electrospinning, and studies the effect on NMC morphology caused by calcination atmosphere, oxidation temperature, decarburization temperature and calcination temperature. It is hoped that the polarization can be further eliminated by optimizing the size, and the proportion of double-layer lithium formed in the pre-lithiation can be increased. The results reveal that after several steps including pre-oxidation at 200°C, decarburization at 550°C and calcination at 750°C, nano lamellar structures with size of about 1–3 μm and thickness of about 30 nm can be produced under O2flow of 200 SCCM. NMC with nano lamellar structures will further alleviate the polarization and produce a higher proportion of double-layer lithium structure by pre-lithiation, resulting in a significant improvement of the discharge capacity.

Abstract

Fluctuations in market demands, increased mobility of workers and changing employment practices as well as companies’ increased respect for individual differences of workers have led to the phenomenon that workers with large efficiency differences work together in the same production line in manufacturing companies. In a traditional travelling production line (TrPL), low-efficiency workers can block the work of higher efficiency workers. To increase the production capacity of a travelling line composed of workers with different efficiencies, a chasing-overtaking mechanism was established and used to achieve line production capacity and efficiency improvement. A formula to calculate the production capacity of two workers with different efficiencies was derived and validated. A simulation performed to analyse the differences between the ‘chasing-overtaking’ production line (COPL), TrPL and the classic ‘bucket brigade’ production line (BBPL) with respect to production capacity, working time utilisation and equipment utilisation demonstrated that the COPL provides good production capacity and adaptability to worker differences. Finally, the statistical analysis verified that the COPL has a higher production capacity, average worker working hour utilisation rate and equipment utilisation rate than the BBPL and TrPL. Abstract

BACKGROUND The Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Psyllidae), is a notorious pest that transmits the causal agent of huanglongbing (also called citrus greening disease). Resistance to insecticide in this destructive pest poses a serious threat to the citrus industry. To date, no systemic studies on genes coding for detoxification enzymes has been carried out on D. citri. RESULTS: Multiple transcriptomes were generated through deep sequencing of RNA libraries. Candidate genes potentially involved in detoxification including cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (CYPs), glutathione S‐transferases (GSTs), and esterases (ESTs) were systematically identified by searching the transcriptomes and a draft genome assembly. A total of 49, 14 and 20 genes were found encoding CYPs, GSTs, and ESTs, respectively, in D. citri. The total numbers of candidate detoxification genes were much smaller than the counterparts reported in other insect species, which may reflect the strict oligophagy of this insect species. Developmental stage‐ and tissue‐specific expression patterns of the identified genes as well as their responses to insecticide treatments identified a small set of genes that could participate in detoxifying plant secondary metabolites and insecticides. CONCLUSION: Our studies represent the most comprehensive investigation to date on identification, characterization and expression profiling of detoxification genes in D. citri. Abstract

TiN/TiAlN multilayer coatings were deposited on M2 high speed steel by a pulsed bias arc ion plating system. The effect of modulation ratio on the microstructure, mechanical and wear properties was investigated. TiN/TiAlN multilayer coatings were crystallized with orientations at the (111), (200) (222) and (311) crystallographic planes and the microstructure was strengthened at (111) preferred orientation. The average atom ratio of N was about 0.39. With the increase of TiN modulation ratio from 50s:100s to 100s:50s, the atom ratio of Ti increased from 0.42 to 0.518 and the atom ratio of Al decreased from 0.193 to 0.084. At modulation ratio of 60s:90s, the hardness of TiN/TiAlN multilayer coatings reached the maximum of 40.7 GPa, which was 4.5 times that of the substrate. The adhesion strength reached the maximum of 74 N at modulation ratio of 100s:50s. Friction and wear analysis was carried out by pin-on-disc tester at room temperature. Compared with the substrate, all the specimens coated with TiN/TiAlN multilayer coatings exhibited better tribological properties.

Abstract

The Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Liviidae), can cause direct damage to citrus trees and is the main vector for the devastating disease, citrus greening disease or huanglongbing. Most molecular studies on this important insect pest use real-time reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) to quantify gene expression, including analyzing molecular basis for insecticide resistance in field populations. One critical factor to cause inaccuracy in RT-qPCR results is the lack of appropriate internal reference genes for optimal data normalization. In this study, the expression levels of 10 selected reference genes were evaluated in different tissue samples of psyllid adults and in the insects treated with different temperatures and insecticides. Data were analyzed using different computational algorithms, including Delta Ct, BestKeeper, NormFinder, geNorm, and RefFinder. According to our results, at least two reference genes should be used for the normalization of RT-qPCR data in this insect. The best choices of reference genes for different samples are as follows: ACT1 and Ferritin for different tissue samples, RPS20 and Ferritin for samples treated with different temperatures, TBP and EF1α for samples treated with imidacloprid, and Ferritin and TBP for samples treated with beta-cypermethrin. The reference genes identified in this study should be useful for future studies to analyze the expression patterns of target genes, especially for genes linked with temperature adaptability and insecticide resistance in this insect species in the future.
