Abstract

This paper treats the problem of the merging of formations, where the underlying model of a formation is graphical. We first analyze the rigidity and persistence of meta-formations, which are formations obtained by connecting several rigid or persistent formations. Persistence is a generalization to directed graphs of the undirected notion of rigidity. In the context of moving autonomous agent formations, persistence characterizes the efficacy of a directed structure of unilateral distance constraints seeking to preserve a formation shape. We derive then, for agents evolving in a two- or three-dimensional space, the conditions under which a set of persistent formations can be merged into a persistent meta-formation, and give the minimal number of interconnections needed for such a merging. Abstract

In this paper, we study the construction and transformation of two-dimensional persistent graphs. Persistence is a generalization to directed graphs of the undirected notion of rigidity. In the context of moving autonomous agent formations, persistence characterizes the efficacy of a directed structure of unilateral distances constraints seeking to preserve a formation shape. Analogously to the powerful results about Henneberg sequences in minimal rigidity theory, we propose different types of directed graph operations allowing one to sequentially build any minimally persistent graph (i.e. persistent graph with a minimal number of edges for a given number of vertices), each intermediate graph being also minimally persistent. We also consider the more generic problem of obtaining one minimally persistent graph from another, which corresponds to the on-line reorganization of an autonomous agent formation. We prove that we can obtain any minimally persistent formation from any other one by a sequence of elementary local operations such that minimal persistence is preserved throughout the reorganization process., Comment: 26 pages, 31 .eps files for the figures

Abstract

Many people believe that the understanding of classroom activities can benefit the parents and education experts to analyze the teaching situation. However, employing workers to supervise the events in the classroom costs lots of human resources. The deployment of surveillance video systems is considered to be a good solution to this problem. Converting videos captured by cameras into descriptions can further reduce data transmission and storage costs. In this paper, we propose a new task named Classroom Video Captioning (CVC), which aims at describing the events in classroom videos with natural language. We collect classroom videos and annotate them with sentences. To tackle the task, we employ an effective architecture called rethinking network to encode the visual features and generate the descriptions. The extensive experiments on our dataset demonstrate that our method can describe the events in classroom videos satisfactorily.

Abstract

The ability to extract useful information from data is a topic of considerable interest, especially with regard to organizing point-of-interest (POI) information containing many attributes as well as data about business. In generating intuitive results from investigations of traditional relational databases, traditional scientific visualization approaches for multidimensional data (e.g., Visualization in Scientific Computing) are inefficient, and deficiencies are often encountered when organizing multidimensional POIs using current online mapping tools (e.g., Google Maps). A new web visualization strategy combining a tile base map and POI symbols is proposed in this study to address the problem. In this strategy, web maps are used as the background, and POI symbols are overlaid on top of the geographical base map through a web visualization. The design and implementation of the variable model of the POI symbol were developed based on the principles of cognitive psychology. Using the information management system of welfare lottery terminals in Hubei Province in China as an example, the system architecture and functions were built using the hypermedia model, and detailed spatial decision support was provided based on the proposed visual environment integrating DCM (i.e., Digital Cartographic Model) and DLM (i.e., Digital Landscape Model) together.
