Abstract

Waste toner with high carbon content has the potential to become a carbon material, but its utilization is limited due to the low carbonization yield. In this work, a carbon-based solid acid was prepared by carbonization and sulfonation of waste toner with the aid of sulfuric acid. The characterization of its structure and the evaluation of its properties revealed that sulfuric acid played three roles in the process of carbon-based solid acid prepared from waste toner (WT-CSA). Specifically, this method not only solved the problem of low yield of carbon precursor (CP) obtained by carbonization of waste toner but also introduced thiophene sulfur into the aromatic carbon flakes during the carbonization process. Moreover, thiophene sulfur makes the sulfonation easier, thus increasing the density of –SO3H. In addition, the activity and cyclic stability of the catalyst were evaluated by cellulose hydrolysis. The results show that the catalyst exhibits excellent hydrolytic activity and hydrothermal stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Nitroreductase (NTR) is an important biomarker widely used to evaluate the degree of tumor hypoxia. Although a few optical methods have been reported for detecting nitroreductase at low concentration ranges, an effective strategy for nitroreductase monitoring in vivo without limits to the imaging depth is still lacking. Herein, a novel dual‐mode NIR fluorescence and 19F MRI agent, FCy7‐NO2, is proposed for imaging tumor hypoxia. We show that FCy7‐NO2 serves as not only a rapid NIR fluorescence enhanced probe for monitoring and bioimaging of nitroreductase in tumors, but also a novel 19F MR chemical shift‐sensitive contrast agent for selectively detecting nitroreductase catalyzed reduction. Notably, integrating two complementary imaging technologies into FCy7‐NO2 enables sensitive detection of nitroreductase in a broad concentration range without tissue‐depth limit. In general, this agent has a remarkable response to nitroreductase, which provides a promising method for understanding tumor evolution and its physiological role in the hypoxic microenvironment. 69. Machine learning-based radiomics for multiple primary prostate cancer biological characteristics prediction with 18F-PSMA-1007 PET: comparison among different volume segmentation thresholds.

Abstract

Background: PET-based radiomics features could predict the biological characteristics of primary prostate cancer (PCa). However, the optimal thresholds to predict the biological characteristics of PCa are unknown. This study aimed to compare the predictive power of 18F-PSMA-1007 PET radiomics features at different thresholds for predicting multiple biological characteristics. Methods: One hundred and seventy-three PCa patients with complete preoperative 18F-PSMA-1007 PET examination and clinical data before surgery were collected. The prostate lesions' volumes of interest were semi-automatically sketched with thresholds of 30%, 40%, 50%, and 60% maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax). The radiomics features were respectively extracted. The prediction models of Gleason score (GS), extracapsular extension (ECE), and vascular invasion (VI) were established using the support vector machine. The performance of models from different thresholding regions was assessed using receiver operating characteristic curve and confusion matrix-derived indexes. Results: For predicting GS, the 50% SUVmax model showed the best predictive performance in training (AUC, 0.82 [95%CI 0.74–0.88]) and testing cohorts (AUC, 0.80 [95%CI 0.66–0.90]). For predicting ECE, the 40% SUVmax model exhibit the best predictive performance (AUC, 0.77 [95%CI 0.68–0.84] and 0.77 [95%CI 0.63–0.88]). As for VI, the 50% SUVmax model had the best predictive performance (AUC, 0.74 [95%CI 0.65–0.82] and 0.74 [95%CI 0.56–0.82]). Conclusion: The 18F-1007-PSMA PET-based radiomics features at 40–50% SUVmax showed the best predictive performance for multiple PCa biological characteristics evaluation. Compared to the single PSA model, radiomics features may provide additional benefits in predicting the biological characteristics of PCa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This paper reports, for the first time, observation results of the Coherent Beacon System (CBS) onboard the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite-1 (CSES-1). We describe the CBS, and the Computerized Ionospheric Tomography (CIT) algorithm program is validated by numerical experiment. Two examples are shown, for daytime and nighttime respectively. The Equatorial Ionization Anomaly (EIA) can be seen, and the northern crest core is located at ~20°N in the reconstruction image at 07:28 UTC on 20 July 2018 (daytime). Disturbances are shown in the reconstruction image at 18:40 UTC on 13 July 2018 (nighttime). We find that beacon measurements are more consistent with ionosonde measurements than model results, by comparing NmF2 at three sites at Lanzhou, Chongqing, and Kunming; consistency with ionosonde measurements validates beacon measurements. Finally, we have studied Vertical Total Electron Content (VTEC) variations from ground to ~500 km (the height of CSES-1 orbit) and ratios of VTEC between beacon measurements and CODE (Center for Orbit Determination in Europe) data. VTEC variation from ground to ~500 km has a range of 7.2–16.5 TECU for the daytime case and a range of 1.1–1.7 TECU for the nighttime case. The Beacon/CODE ratio of VTEC varies with latitude and time. The mean Beacon/CODE ratio is 0.69 for the daytime case and 0.26 for the nighttime case. The fact that the nighttime case yields lower ratios indicates the higher altitude of the ionosphere during nighttime when the ionosphere is assumed to be a thin layer.
