Most of efforts have been made to prepare high performance surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate for amplifying Raman signals. It still remains a grand challenging task in building a simple, conventional and low-cost SERS substrate with highly dense hotspots for improved sensitivity of the target analytes. Here, we report a very dexterous strategy to fabricate a distinctive SERS substrate with high density hotspots, using common adsorbent activated carbon (AC) as template to assemble silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). It can be estimated that the enhancement effect of Ag NPs/AC composite is about 6.5-fold that of bare Ag NPs. Different from the resonant dyes, however, formaldehyde (FA) is a Raman-inactive molecule even though enhanced. Considering that, a novel method for quantitative analysis of FA using the Ag NPs/AC composite as SERS sensor has been developed, based on the catalytic effect of trace FA on the oxidation of malachite green (MG) through bromate under acidic condition. The change of MG from reduced form into oxidized leucomalachite green (LMG) results in the quench of Raman signals of MG, responding to 0.07 ppb FA that is about 2 orders of magnitude lower than the limit defined by the Nash's method as a standard procedure recommended in Europe, Japan and China. Moreover, SERS examinations of endogenous FA in human urine signify that the proposed method has high selectivity, reliability and accuracy. Purpose: To evaluate the value of intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) histogram analysis based on whole tumor volume in predicting microvascular invasion (MVI) of single hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Materials and Methods: The study enrolled 41 patients with pathologically proven HCCs who underwent IVIM diffusion-weighted imaging with nine b values and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Histogram parameters including mean; skewness; kurtosis; and percentiles (5th, 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th, 95th) were derived from apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), perfusion fraction (f), true diffusion coefficient (D), and pseudo diffusion coefficient (D*). Quantitative histogram parameters and clinical data were compared between HCCs with and without MVI. For significant parameters, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were further plotted to compare the diagnosis performance for identifying MVI.Results: The mean, 5th, 10th, 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles of D, and the 5th, 10th, and 25th percentiles of ADC between HCCs with and without MVI were statistically significant (all P＜0.05). The histogram parameters of D* and f showed no statistically significant differences between HCCs with and without MVI (all P＞0.05). The areas under the ROC curves (AUCs) were 0.707-0.874 for D and 0.668-0.720 for ADC. The largest AUC of D (5th percentile) showed significantly higher accuracy than that of ADC or tumor size (P = 0.009-0.046). With a cut-off of 0.403 × 10-3 mm²/s, the 5th percentile of D value provided a sensitivity of 81% and a specificity of 85% in the prediction of MVI.Conclusions: Histogram analysis of IVIM based on whole tumor volume can be useful for predicting MVI. Viscosity in biological systems is a critical factor for various physiological process, including signal transduction and metabolisms of substance and energy. Abnormal viscosity has been proven as a key feature of many diseases, thereby real-time monitoring of viscosities in cells and in vivo is of great significance for the diagnosis and therapy of related diseases. Up to date, it is still challenging to monitor viscosity cross-platform from organelles to cells to animals with a single probe. Here, we report a benzothiazolium-xanthene probe with rotatable bonds that switch on the optical signals in high viscosity environment. The enhancements of absorption, fluorescence intensity and lifetime signals allow to dynamically monitoring the viscosity change in mitochondria and cells, while near infrared absorption and emission facilitate imaging the viscosity with both fluorescence and photoacoustic imaging in animals. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) regulating the release of free zinc ions (Zn 2+ ) in cellular lysosome is closely related to various pathways of cellular signal transduction, such as inflammation and oxidative stress. Directly visualizing Zn 2+ release in lysosome is essential for in-depth understanding these physiological processes, and is still an atelic challenge. In this work, we successfully fabricate a lysosome-specific Zn 2+ fluorescent probe and achieve the visualization of ROS-induced Zn 2+ release in lysosome of inflammatory cells. The as-prepared probe combines a green fluorophore, an ionophore with five-dentate sites, and a morpholine as the lysosome-specific localization moiety. The fluorescence of the fluorophore in the free probe is suppressed by a photoinduced electron transfer (PET) process from nitrogen atoms in the ionophore. Upon the addition of Zn 2+ , the fluorescence can be promoted immediately, achieving the real-time detection. Meanwhile, the probe is sensitive and selective to Zn 2+ , which provides the capability to detect low-concentration of free Zn 2+ in lysosomes. The Time Transfer by Laser Link (T2L2) project allows for the synchronization of remote ultrastable clocks over intercontinental distances. The principle is derived from the satellite laser ranging technology with a dedicated space equipment designed to record arrival times of laser pulses at the satellite. The space segment was launched in 2008 as a passenger instrument on the ocean altimetry satellite Jason 2. For the first time, we have conducted by the end of 2016 a dedicated time transfer comparison campaign between Global Positioning System and T2L2 over intercontinental distances. The campaign was carried out between two laboratories in Europe and two in China. The campaign has demonstrated a consistency of the time transfer techniques at the 1-ns level, together with the confirmation of a subnanosecond level for continental distances. Fluorescent paper sensors are widely used in the assays of environment, food and medicine; however, their applications usually have been limited due to the narrow color-change range and insensitivity of the color variation to dosage of target analytes. In this paper, we report a ratiometric fluorescent probe-based paper sensor regulated by the optimum proportion of gold nanoclusters stabilized by bovine serum albumin and fluorescent graphene oxide to achieve the maximum consecutive color change for visual determination of glucose in human serum. The oxidation of hydrogen peroxide produced by glucose quenches the red fluorescence emission of gold nanoclusters and unveils a consecutive color change from pink to blue with the corresponding dosage of glucose. This colorimetric paper sensor printed with the probe ink exhibits a dosage-sensitive allochromatic capability for the blood glucose concentration of 4–10 mM in human serum (normal concentration: 4.4–6.6 mM). Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a key signaling molecule in the cytoprotection, vascular mediation and neurotransmission of living organisms. In-depth understanding of its production, trafficking, and transformation in cells is very important in the way H2S mediates cellular signal transductions and organism functions; it also motivates the development of H2S probes and imaging technologies. A fundamental challenge, however, is how to engineer probes with sensitivity and cellular penetrability that allow detection of spontaneous production of H2S in the entire cell space and live animals. Here, we report a rationally designed molecular switch capable of accessing all intracellular compartments, including the nucleus, lysosomes and mitochondria, for H2S detection. Our probe comprised three functional domains (H2S sensing, fluorescence, and biomembrane penetration), could enter almost all cell types readily, and exhibit a rapid and ultrasensitive response to H2S (≤120-fold fluorescence enhancement) for the dynamic mapping of spontaneously produced H2S as well as its distribution in the whole cell. In particular, the probe traversed blood/tissue/cell barriers to achieve mapping of endogenous H2S in metabolic organs of a live Danio rerio (zebrafish). Abstract: The nucleus accumbens (NAc), an important target of deep brain stimulation for some neuropsychiatric disorders, is thought to be involved in epileptogenesis, especially the shell portion. However, little is known about the exact parcellation within the NAc, and its structural abnormalities or connections alterations of each NAc subdivision in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) patients. Here, we used diffusion probabilistic tractography to subdivide the NAc into core and shell portions in individual TLE patients to guide stereotactic localization of NAc shell. The structural and connection abnormalities in each NAc subdivision in the groups were then estimated. We successfully segmented the NAc in 24 of 25 controls, 14 of 16 left TLE patients, and 14 of 18 right TLE patients. Both left and right TLE patients exhibited significantly decreased fractional anisotropy (FA) and increased radial diffusivity (RD) in the shell, while there was no significant alteration in the core. Moreover, relatively distinct structural connectivity of each NAc subdivision was demonstrated. More extensive connection abnormalities were detected in the NAc shell in TLE patients. Our results indicate that neuronal degeneration and damage caused by seizure mainly exists in NAc shell and provide anatomical evidence to support the role of NAc shell in epileptogenesis. Remarkably, those NAc shell tracts with increased connectivities in TLE patients were found decreased in FA, which indicates disruption of fiber integrity. This finding suggests the regeneration of aberrant connections, a compensatory and repair process ascribed to recurrent seizures that constitutes part of the characteristic changes in the epileptic network. As an essential enzyme, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) has attracted considerable attention for its regulating effect to the dephosphorylation process in living organisms. Here, we present a colorimetric and surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) dual-readout approach for assaying ALP activity. The major advantage of dual-readout assay is the perfect combination of the merit of colorimetric and SERS, which not only allow rapid preliminary discrimination of ALP activity by the naked eye but also greatly improved the detection sensitivity by SERS. Specifically, 4-mercaptophenylboronic acid modified Ag coated gold nanoparticles (4-MPBA-Au@Ag NPs) are employed as the colorimetric and SERS bifunctional reporting nanoprobes. Upon the presence of ALP, the phosphate group in the ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AAP) is cleaved to produce ascorbic acid (AA), which acted as boronic acid moieties receptors to control the aggregation of 4-MPBA-Au@Ag NPs. The color of 4-MPBA-Au@Ag NPs solutions had changed from bright orange to light brown to dark gray, simultaneously accompanied by a substantial enhancement of SERS-readouts for the strong Raman hot-spots between the aggregation of 4-MPBA-Au@Ag NPs. A distinguishable change in the color was observed at an ALP activity of 5.0 U/L, meanwhile, SERS-readout sensing method showed a good linear relationship from 0.50 to 10.0 U/L (R = 0.997) with an exciting detection limit of 0.10 U/L (signal-to-noise ratio of 3). In addition, the dual-readout approach developed here was applied for ALP inhibitor evaluation. With the simple, rapid/direct readout yet outstanding sensitivity, we anticipate that this method would greatly promote practical application in ALP-related early-stage diseases diagnosis. Pesticides abuse has drawn considerable attention in agriculture, environment and food safety in recent years. How to selective and on-site detection of pesticide residues with rapid operation and low cost is still a hot topic. In this work, we report a novel method for the detection of pesticide thiram using phosphorescent Mn-doped ZnS quantum dots (ZnS:Mn 2+ QDs) combined by an affinity reaction between thiram and Ag + ions. On the one hand, the phosphorescence of as-prepared ZnS:Mn 2+ QDs at 590 nm can be effectively quenched by Ag + ions due to the direct cation-exchange reaction at the surface of QDs. On the other hand, the presence of thiram can inhibit phosphorescence quenching through the formation of stable Ag-thiram complex. This inhibition resulted in a linear recovery in emission intensity with increasing the amount of thiram, which enables thiram residues to be identified under the UV light illumination. In buffer condition, thiram could be detected within the concentration range of 50 nM–2.5 μM with a detection limit of 25 nM. Moreover, the proposed method has been successfully applied to thiram residues identification at fresh fruit peels. Purpose: To evaluate histologic differentiation of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) using apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM)-derived metrics and to compare findings with alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels alone and in combination. Materials and method: One hundred and six chronic HBV-related HCC patients who underwent IVIM diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging with eleven b values were enrolled. Mean ADC, diffusion coefficient ( D), pseudodiffusion coefficient ( D*), and perfusion fraction ( f) values were determined for all detected lesions. The metrics and AFP levels of different histologically differentiated groups were compared. Spearman's rank correlation was used to assess the statistical dependence among the histologically differentiated HCCs. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to evaluate diagnostic performance of these metrics and AFP levels alone and in combination. Results: ADC, D, and f values and AFP levels were significantly different among well-, moderately, and poorly differentiated HCCs. The four metrics were significantly correlated with histologic differentiation. The area under the ROC curve (AUC-ROC) of ADC, D, f, and AFP for diagnosing well-differentiated HCCs was 0.903, 0.84, 0.782, and 0.806, respectively, and the AUC-ROC of above metrics for diagnosing poorly differentiated HCCs was 0.787, 0.726, 0.624, and 0.633, respectively. The combination of ADC and AFP provided an AUC-ROC of 0.945 for well-differentiated HCC. However, this did not provide better performance for diagnosing poorly differentiated HCC. Conclusion: ADC, IVIM metrics, and AFP levels may be useful for evaluating histologic differentiation of HBV-related HCCs, and the combination of ADC and AFP provides better diagnostic performance for well-differentiated HCC. The MJ-class superconducting magnetic energy storage system (SMES) is most likely put into commercial utility applications. In China, several 1–100-MJ-class high-temperature superconducting (HTS) SMES projects are undergoing preresearch and conceptual design stage by the government and the power grid corporations, and these SMESs will be developed later. The configurations of commonly used SMES magnets are single-solenoid, multiple-solenoid, and toroidal magnets. Each configuration has its own electromagnetic and mechanical characteristics. In this paper, an optimal design and comparison were carried out to explore the suitable configuration for the MJ-class SMES magnet. As the critical current of the conductor is strongly influenced by the magnetic field and its applied direction, optimization of the HTS coil's configuration is required to minimize the length of the HTS wire. The optimization was conducted with the genetic algorithm and the finite-element method. In order to find the dependence of energy storage capacity on the wire cost, the magnet schemes of seven energy requirements were investigated. An optimal design is performed for the seven stored energies with the three types of magnet configurations. The comparisons between single-solenoid, four-solenoid, and toroidal coils are presented. In the latest design studies of superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) systems, the emphasis was put on the electromagnetic design of SMES magnets without giving due attention to the electrical design with a view to eliminating the overvoltage problem. The power conditioning system (PCS) interfaces with the superconducting magnet and the ac system through an electrical connection. With a pulse-width modulation converter usually adopted in the PCS, the high-frequency overvoltage problem is even more serious. Therefore, electrical design based on voltage distribution analysis and protection measures should be taken into account during the SMES design. This paper first gives transient models of PCS, SMES, and the connecting cable in a systematic view. Later on, a design flow path containing both the electromagnetic design and the electrical design is presented. Fluorescent test papers are promising for the wide applications in the assays of diagnosis, environments and foods, but unlike classical dye-absorption-based pH test paper, they are usually limited in the qualitative yes/no type of detection by fluorescent brightness, and the colorimetry-based quantification remains a challenging task. Here, we report a single dual-emissive nanofluorophore probe to achieve the consecutive color variations from blue to red for the quantification of blood glucose on its as-prepared test papers. Red quantum dots were embedded into silica nanoparticles as a stable internal standard emission, and blue carbon dots (CDs) were further covalently linked onto the surface of silica, in which the ratiometric fluorescence intensity of blue to red is controlled at 5:1. While the oxidation of glucose induced the formation of Fe 3+ ions, the blue emission of CDs was thus quenched by the electron transfer from CDs to Fe 3+ , displaying a serial of consecutive color variations from blue to red with the dosage of glucose. The high-quality test papers printed by the probe ink exhibited a dosage-sensitive allochromatic capability with the clear differentiations of ~5, 7, 9, 11 mM glucose in human serum (normal: 3–8 mM). The blood glucose determined by the test paper was almost in accordance with that measured by a standard glucometer. Cesium lead halide quantum dots (QDs) have tunable photoluminescence that is capable of covering the entire visible spectrum and have high quantum yields, which make them a new fluorescent materials for various applications. Here, the synthesis of CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I, or mixed Cl/Br and Br/I) QDs by direct ion reactions in ether solvents is reported, and for the first time the synergetic effects of solvent polarity and reaction temperature on the nucleation and growth of QDs are demonstrated. The use of solvent with a low polarity enables controlled growth of QDs, which facilitates the synthesis of high-quality CsPbX3 QDs with broadly tunable luminescence, narrow emission width, and high quantum yield. A QD white LED (WLED) is demonstrated by coating the highly fluorescent green-emissive CsPbBr3 QDs together with red phosphors on a blue InGaN chip, which presents excellent warm white light emission with a high rendering index of 93.2 and color temperature of 5447 K, suggesting the potential applications of highly fluorescent cesium lead halide perovskite QDs as an alternative color converter in the fabrication of WLEDs. Luminescent chemosensors for hydrogen sulphide (H2S) are of great interest because of the close association of H2S with our health. However, current probes for H2S detection have problems such as low sensitivity/selectivity, poor aqueous-solubility or interference from background fluorescence. This study reports an ultrasensitive and time-gated “switch on” probe for detection of H2S, and its application in test paper for visualization of exhaled H2S. The complex probe is synthesized with a luminescent Tb3+ centre and three ligands of azido (–N3) substituted pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid, giving the probe high hydrophilicity and relatively fast reaction dynamics with H2S because there are three –N3 groups in each molecule. The introduced –N3 group as a strong electron-withdrawing moiety effectively changes the energy level of ligand via intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), and thus breaks the energy transferring from ligand to lanthanide ion, resulting in quenching of Tb3+ luminescence. On addition of H2S, the –N3 group can be reduced to an amine group to break the process of ICT, and the luminescence of Tb3+ is recovered at a nanomolar sensitivity level. With a long lifetime of luminescence of Tb3+ centre (1.9 ms), use of a time-gated technique effectively eliminates the background fluorescence by delaying fluorescence collection for 0.1 ms. Fluorescent colorimetric test strips normally have a narrow dynamic detection–range due to the limited responsive range from single responsive materials, which cannot meet the wide detection requirement in practical applications. Herein, we developed an approach to detect uranyl ions (UO 2 2+) with a broad detection range using the synthesized ZnS:Mn quantum dots (QDs) modified Zn 2 GeO 4 nanoellipsoids (Zn 2 GeO 4 @ZnS:Mn NEs), containing two responsive materials with the opposite signal responses at different UO 2 2+ concentrations. Specifically, a red to chocolate color change was observed at low analyte concentrations (0.01–100 μM) resulting from the photoinduced electron transfer effect from ZnS:Mn QDs to UO 2 2+. A sequentially olive drab to green color change has been observed when further increasing the UO 2 2+ concentration (100–1000 μM) as a result of the antenna effect between Zn 2 GeO 4 nanoellipsoids and UO 2 2+. In addition, a low-cost and portable fluorescent test strip has been further fabricated through embedding Zn 2 GeO 4 @ZnS:Mn NEs on a microporous structure membrane, demonstrating a facile yet effective colorimetric response to UO 2 2+ in lab water, lake water, and seawater with a wide dynamic range. Therefore, it is potentially attractive for real-time and on-site detection of UO 2 2+ in sudden-onset situations. Objective The objective was to investigate the capabilities of diffusional kurtosis imaging (DKI) in detection of age-related white matter (WM) changes in elderly patients with leukoaraiosis. Material and methods Fractional anisotropy (FA), kurtosis, and diffusion parameters in the frontal lobe and parietal lobe were compared between 14 patients at Fazekas scale 0 and 1, and 15 patients at Fazekas scale 2 and 3. Results FA and DKI parameters were significantly altered in the ischemic lesions vs normal regions of WM in the severe patients. Background: Depression in the context of bipolar disorder (BD) is often misdiagnosed as unipolar depression (UD), leading to mistreatment and poor clinical outcomes. However, little is known about the similarities and differences in cerebellum between BD and UD.Methods: Patients with BD (n=35) and UD (n=30) during a depressive episode as well as 40 healthy controls underwent diffusional kurtosis imaging (DKI) and three dimensional arterial spin labeling (3D ASL). The DKI parameters including mean kurtosis (MK), axial kurtosis (Ka), radial kurtosis (Kr),fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusivity (MD), axial diffusivity (Da) and radial diffusivity (Dr) and 3D ASL parameters (i.e. cerebral blood flow) was measured by using regions-of-interest (ROIs) analysis in the superior cerebellar peduncles (SCP), middle cerebellar peduncles (MCP) and dentate nuclei (DN) of cerebellum.Results: Patients with UD exhibited significant differences from controls for DKI measures in bilateral SCP and MCP and cerebral blood flow (CBF) in bilateral SCP and left DN. Patients with BD exhibited significant differences from controls for DKI measures in the right MCP and left DN and CBF in the left DN. Patients with UD showed significantly lower MD values compared with patients with BD in the right SCP. Correlation analysis showed there were negative correlations between illness duration and MD and Dr values in the right SCP in UD.Limitations: This study was cross-sectional and the sample size was not large. Parts of the patients included were under medication prior to MRI scanning.Conclusions: Our findings provide new evidence of microstructural changes in cerebellum in BD and UD. The two disorders may have overlaps in microstructural abnormality in MCP and DN during the depressive period. Microstructural abnormality in SCP may be a key neurobiological feature of UD. In this paper, friction plug welding (FPW) experiments of 2219-T87 aluminum alloy sheets with 10 mm thickness were performed. The material flow behavior, microstructures, second phases, mechanical properties and failure behaviors were also investigated. The results indicate that a sufficient volume of material from both plug and base metal flow upward and downward is critical obtaining defect free weld. The plug thermo-mechanically affected zone, plug recrystallized zone, thermo-mechanically affected zone (TMAZ), and heat affected zone could be weakened significantly owing to the thermal–mechanical process. The main reason is believed as the dissolution of precipitates and the redistribution of constituent particles. The maximum tensile strength and elongation of the joint would reach 329 MPa and 7%, respectively. The TMAZ closest to the bonding interface is the weakest location of the joints. The tensile crack initiates at TMAZ close to the bonding interface near the lower surface and then propagates along the soften area in TMAZ with forming a large amount of dimples with second phases existing at the bottom. In Parkinson's disease (PD), iron elevation in specific brain regions as well as selective loss of dopaminergic neurons is a major pathologic feature. A reliable quantitative measure of iron deposition is a potential biomarker for PD and may contribute to the investigation of iron-mediated PD. The primary purpose of this study is to assess iron variations in multiple deep grey matter nuclei in early PD with a novel MRI technique, quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM). The inter-group differences of susceptibility and R2* value in deep grey matter nuclei, namely head of caudate nucleus (CN), putamen (PUT), global pallidus (GP), substantia nigra (SN), and red nucleus (RN), and the correlations between regional iron deposition and the clinical features were explored in forty-four early PD patients and 35 gender and age-matched healthy controls. Susceptibility values were found to be elevated within bilateral SN and RN contralateral to the most affected limb in early PD compared with healthy controls (HCs). The finding of increased susceptibility in bilateral SN is consistent with work on a subgroup of patients at the earliest clinical detectable state (Hoehn and Yahr [1967]: Neurology 17:427-442; Stage I). However, increased R2* values were only seen within SN contralateral to the most affected limb in the PD group when compared with controls. Furthermore, bilateral SN magnetic susceptibility positively correlated with disease duration and UPDRS-III scores in early PD. The intracellular pH value controls many aspects of cell metabolism and is considered as an integral part of many metabolic reactions by maintaining the structure and function of nearly all proteins. Detection of pH fluctuation covering the whole intracellular pH window including both neutral and acidic is essential but challenging and still needs more sensitive pH probes. We have synthesized a new near-infrared fluorescent and colorimetric probe based on cyanine dye, which can be used for monitoring the pH fluctuation. The probe has a good water solubility, excellent photostability, reversibility, low cytotoxicity and exhibits a good performance to detect pH fluctuation in both solution and live cells. Upon incubation with live cells, it responds sensitively to low pH value in cell medium by exhibiting bright red fluorescence. On the contrary, the fluorescence intensity of probe seems to be very weak in neutral cellular environment. A green and efficient synthesis of aqueous CdTe quantum dots (QDs) embedded in inorganic salt enabled by co-precipitation is demonstrated, providing a new type of solid-state conversion material with emission colors covering green to red spectral regions. CdTe QDs were synthesized in the water phase, followed by incorporation into inorganic salt with the assistance of ethanol. Due to the protection of the tight matrix, the resulting composites exhibit good stability and processability as well as high photoluminescence properties. A white light emitting diode (WLED) applying the composites as a red color conversion layer with good luminescence properties is also fabricated, suggesting the promising application of the composites in solid-state lighting systems. The development of novel sodium-ion batteries has been hindered by the lack of ideal anode materials. Herein, we report both experimental and theoretical assessment of layered MoSe 2 nanoplates as the anode materials. The MoSe 2 nanoplates are successfully synthesized by a facile thermal-decomposition process. As the anode, the MoSe 2 nanoplates are capable of delivering the initial discharge and charge capacities of 513 and 440 mAh g −1 at the current of 0.1C in a voltage of 0.1–3 V, respectively. The analysis of Ex-situ XRD patterns reveals that there is no slippage between layers and the change of coordination of molybdenum when the MoSe 2 electrode is discharged to 0.6 V and conversion reactions during the following discharge/charge process are also demonstrated. In addition, the electronic structure, Na ions transport and conductivity are investigated by first-principles calculation. A quasi-2D energy favorable trajectory is proposed to illustrate the sodium ion vacancy-hopping migration mechanism form octahedron to tetrahedron in MoSe 2 lattice. Thiolate-protected gold nanoclusters with high chemical stability are exploited extensively for fundamental research and utility in chosen applications. Here for the first time, the controlled destabilization of extraordinarily stable thiolated gold clusters for the growth of single-crystalline gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) is demonstrated, which was achieved simply via the oxidation of surface-protecting thiolates into disulfides by hydrogen peroxide under basic condition. By combining with our experimental observations over the entire destabilization and growth process, the new growth mechanism from clusters to AuNPs is revealed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. It is found that the size of AuNPs decreases with the increase of hydrogen peroxide concentration due to the generation of more nuclei at the higher hydrogen peroxide concentrations. In addition, the preparation of AuNPs is tuned by changing the concentration of hydrogen peroxide, and they are self-assembled into microspheres via an evaporation-mediated process, which can induce strong plasmonic coupling between adjacent AuNPs for ultrasensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering detection. The present work demonstrates a facile route to functionalize and engineer AuNPs via controlling the reaction conditions and the ratio of precursors, and thus bring new possibilities for using more clusters as precursors to construct novel nano/microstructures for various applications. Gliomas grading is important for treatment plan; we aimed to investigate the application of intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in gliomas grading, by comparing with the three-dimensional pseudocontinuous arterial spin labeling (3D pCASL). 24 patients (13 high grade gliomas and 11 low grade gliomas) underwent IVIM DWI and 3D pCASL imaging before operation; maps of fast diffusion coefficient (D∗), slow diffusion coefficient (D), fractional perfusion-related volume (f), and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) as well as cerebral blood flow (CBF) were calculated and then coregistered to generate the corresponding parameter values. We found CBF and D∗ were higher in the high grade gliomas, whereas ADC, D, and f were lower (all P<0.05). In differentiating the high from low grade gliomas, the maximum areas under the curves (AUC) of D∗, CBF, and ADC were 0.857, 0.85, and 0.902, respectively. CBF was negatively correlated with f in tumor (r=-0.619, P=0.001). ADC was positively correlated with D in both tumor and white matter (r=0.887, P=0.000 and r=0.824, P=0.000, resp.). There was no correlation between CBF and D∗ in both tumor and white matter (P>0.05). The real applications of Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 cathode material for sodium batteries have been hindered by low-cost and facile synthesis method. Herein, we report a facile self-combustion method to synthesize Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 nanoparticles coated with carbon shell (NVP/C). Using as the cathode, the NVP/C is capable of delivering the initial discharge and charge capacities of 100.72 and 111.3 mAh g −1 at the current of 0.1 C in a voltage of 2.5–3.8 V, and the capacity retention of the sample is approximately 95% of its initial specific capacity after 50th cycles. The first-principles simulation results show that the Na ions migration route prefers between two adjacent tetrahedral sites with the vacancy-hopping mechanism in a curved way, with the lowest activation energy of 0.292 eV. The diffusion coefficients D Na + at room temperature was also calculated as higher as 2.38 × 10 −9 cm 2 s −1 . The article reports on the April 8, 2012 end of the Environmental Satellite (Envisat) mission. A discussion of range measurements to the satellite that allowed determination of the attitude and the spin period of Envisat during seven months of 2013 which were performed by Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) stations, and found the spin axis of the satellite is 2.52 meters and causes the meter-scale oscillations of the range measurements between the ground SLR system and the satellite, is presented.

Abstract: Trace penicilloic acid allergen frequently leads to various fatal immune responses to many patients, but it is still a challenge to directly discriminate and detect its residue in penicillin by a chemosensing way. Here, we report that silver-coated gold nanoparticles (Au@Ag NPs) exhibit a structure-selective hot-spot Raman enhancement capability for direct identification and detection of trace penicilloic acid in penicillin. It has been demonstrated that penicilloic acid can very easily link Au@Ag NPs together by its two carboxyl groups, locating itself spontaneously at the interparticle of Au@Ag NPs to form strong Raman hot-spot. At the critical concentration inducing the nanoparticle aggregation, Raman-enhanced effect of penicilloic acid is ~60,000 folds higher than that of penicillin. In particular, the selective Raman enhancement to the two carboxyl groups makes the peak of carboxyl group at C6 of penicilloic acid appear as a new Raman signal due to the opening of β-lactam ring of penicillin. The surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanoparticle sensor reaches a sensitive limit lower than the prescribed 1.0‰ penicilloic acid residue in penicillin. Abstract: A fluorescent probe was synthesized and demonstrated to be highly selective and sensitive in the reaction with copper (II) ion, generating a large variation of the fluorescence intensity in a dose–response manner. The probe contains a dansyl moiety as fluorophore and a multidentate ligand for copper (II) ion recognition. The reaction of the molecular probe with copper (II) ion proceeds rapidly and irreversibly in a 1 to 1 stoichiometric way, leading to the production of stable copper (II) complex, which subsequently results in the quenching of fluorescence. The detection limit for copper (II) ion was measured to be about 2ppb. It was also shown that the probe has high selectivity for copper (II) ion and good anti-interference ability against other transition metal ions. We have developed a selective upconversion switching method for the ratiometric fluorescence detection of nitrite using upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and an efficient nitrite reaction. The green emission (λem = 539 nm) of NaYF4:Yb3+,Er3+ nanoparticles can be selectively quenched by the neutral red (NR) dye due to the spectral overlap between the emission at 539 nm and the absorption of NR, while its red emission (λem = 654 nm) remains unchanged. Nitrite reacts specifically and strongly with NR to form diazonium salt and lose the diazonium group, which sharply decreases the absorption of NR. Thus, the green emission of NaYF4:Yb3+,Er3+ can be recovered by increasing the amount of nitrite, leading to visible color changes from red to orange-yellow and finally green under excitation at 980 nm. The increase in the ratio of emission intensities (I539/I654) is quantitatively correlated to the concentration of nitrite ions. Moreover, the developed method has been successfully applied to nitrite detection in real samples such as drinking water, natural water and meat foods. Herein, for the detection of highly explosive 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) instantly and on-site, a fluorescence ratiometric probe using a dual-emission nanohybrid has been developed. The nanohybrid comprises blue-colored fluorescent graphene oxide (FGO) being conjugated with red-emitting manganese-doped ZnS nanocrystals (ZnS:Mn NCs), the latter being functionalized with hexamethylenediamine. The blue fluorescence of FGO is insensitive to TNT and is used as an internal reference, whereas the red fluorescence of ZnS:Mn NCs can be selectively quenched by TNT through electron transfer, resulting in a unique red–purple–blue color response as the amount of TNT is increased. Thus, the probe could be used for the quantitative measurement of TNT based on the fluorescence ratiometric method. We demonstrated that the nanohybrid probe exhibited high visual detection sensitivity and reliability in comparison with single-color fluorescence quenching probes. A fluorescence test paper was prepared using the nanohybrid probe and was demonstrated to detect TNT residues directly on various surfaces including rubber, a person's fingers and manila envelopes with a visual detection limit as low as 5.68 ng mm−2, showing its promising application for security screening. Abstract: High-precision time synchronization between satellites and ground stations plays the vital role in satellite navigation system. Laser time transfer (LTT) technology is widely recognized as the highest accuracy way to achieve time synchronization derived from satellite laser ranging (SLR) technology. Onboard LTT payload has been designed and developed by Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, and successfully applied to Chinese Beidou navigation satellites. By using the SLR system, with strictly controlling laser firing time and developing LTT data processing system on ground, the high precise onboard laser time transfer experiment has been first performed for satellite navigation system in the world. The clock difference and relative frequency difference between the ground hydrogen maser and space rubidium clocks have been obtained, with the precision of approximately 300ps and relative frequency stability of 10E−14. This article describes the development of onboard LTT payload, introduces the principle, system composition, applications and LTT measuring results for Chinese satellite navigation system. A facile green approach has been developed to control the growth regime in the aqueous synthesis of CdxZn1-xTe semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) based on the electrochemistry method. The Low growth temperature and slow injection of Te precursor are used to prolong the diffusion controlled stage and thus suppress Ostwald ripening during the nanocrystal growth. The experimental results showed that a low concentration of Te precursor will definitely influence the growth procedure. The UV-visible absorption spectra, as well as transmission electron microscopy (TEM) shows the QDs a good monodispersity at any interval of the reaction procedure. The high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern suggested that the as-prepared QDs have high crystallinity and cubic structure. The size and composition-dependent fluorescent emission wavelength of the resultant CdxZn1-xTe alloyed QDs can be tuned from 460 to 610 nm, and their photoluminescent quantum yield can reach up to 70%. Especially in the wavelength range of 510-578 nm, the overall PL QYs of the as-prepared CdxZn1-xTe QDs were above 50%. The current work suggests that electrochemical method is an attractive approach to the synthesis of high-quality II-VI ternary alloyed semiconductor QDs at large-scale with a prominent cost advantage. Abstract: In this study, a novel microencapsulated phase change material (palmitic acid@AlOOH) was prepared using an in situ emulsion interfacial poly-condensation method. The resulting colloidal-sphere microcapsules, with diameter around 200nm, are of core-shell microstructures. Characteristic peaks of both palmitic acid and AlOOH can be observed during their IR spectrum characterization. According to the TGA examinations, the encapsulated ratios of palmitic acid (PA) to PA@AlOOH are 52%, 57% and 69%. The DSC results indicate that melting temperatures of the microencapsulated PCMs are remarkably 50°C lower than those of pristine PA, which might originate from the strong interface interactions between the core and shell of PA@AlOOH. The thermal storage capabilities of the microcapsules are also tested. Abstract: Molecularly imprinted polypyrrole (PPy) nanonecklaces were facilely synthesized through a two-step oxidative polymerization route for the amperometric detection of non-electrochemically active herbicide. It has been demonstrated that dissolved oxygen can preoxidize pyrrole to form PPy oligomer bundles, which further self-assemble into necklace-like micelles in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. Subsequently, these microstructures were immediately gelled through quick polymerization of residual pyrrole monomers, leading to the formation of PPy nanonecklaces. Meanwhile, herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) was synchronously imprinted into the formed PPy and highly dense imprinted sites were generated in PPy nanonecklaces because the necklace-like structure with microgaps/pores provides the facile and complete removal of templates. The imprinted nanonecklaces exhibit the high capacity and fast kinetics to uptake 2,4-D molecules, and produce a imprinting factor of ∼4.2. Importantly, the recognition and binding to 2,4-D significantly amplify the current response by a factor of 8 times in amperometric measurements, providing a sensitive detection of 2,4-D. The molecular imprinting strategy opens a novel avenue to the direct detection of non-electrochemically active species in a more convenient, simpler and cheaper way than the traditional competition-displacing approaches. Abstract: For the widely used gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)-based colorimetric probes, AuNPs generally change from dispersion to aggregation state accompanying with corresponding color turning from red to blue. Although colorimetric probes based on the anti-aggregation of AuNPs show exceptional selectivity and sensitivity, few examples have been reported in literature. A facile but highly sensitive and selective colorimetric probe based on the anti-aggregation of AuNPs transferred from the deactivation of aggregation agent 4,4′-dipyridyl by Hg2+ was developed in this work. This reported probe is suitable for real-time detection of Hg2+ in water with a detection limit of 3.0ppb for Hg2+, and exhibits a selectivity toward Hg2+ by two orders of magnitude over other metal ions. Abstract: A low-cost, green, and reproducibly non-injection one-pot synthesis of high-quality CdS quantum dots (QDs) is reported. The synthesis was performed in the open air by mixing precursors cadmium stearate and S powder into a new solvent N-oleoylmorpholine. An overlapped nucleation-growth stage followed by a dominated growth stage was observed. The resulting QDs exhibited well-resolved absorption fine substructure and a dominant band-edge emission with a narrow size distribution (the full width at half maximum (fwhm) was only 22–24nm). The maximum photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield (QY) was as high as 46.5%. Highly monodispersed CdS QDs with tunable sizes and similar PL fwhm and QYs could also be obtained from the CdS QDs in a large-scale synthesis. The high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern suggested that the as-prepared QDs with high crystallinity had a cubic structure. A significant PL improvement and a continuous QY increase for the CdS QDs were observed during a long storage time in air and in a glovebox under room temperature. Abstract: This paper reports the preparation of metsulfuron-methyl (MSM) imprinted polymer layer-coated silica nanoparticles toward analysis of trace sulfonylurea herbicides in complicated matrices. To induce the selective occurrence of surface polymerization, the polymerizable double bonds were first grafted at the surface of silica nanoparticles by the silylation. Afterwards, the MSM templates were imprinted into the polymer-coating layer through the interaction with functional monomers. The programmed heating led to the formation of uniform MSM-imprinted polymer layer with controllable thickness, and further improved the reproducibility of rebinding capacity. After removal of templates, recognition sites of MSM were exposed in the polymer layers. As a result, the maximum rebinding capacity was achieved with the use of optimal grafting ratio. There was also evidence indicating that the MSM-imprinted polymer nanoparticles compared with nonimprinted polymer nanoparticles had a higher selectivity and affinity to four structure-like sulfonylurea herbicides. Moreover, using the imprinted particles as dispersive solid-phase extraction (DSPE) materials, the recoveries of four sulfonylurea herbicides determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were 80.2–99.5%, 83.8–102.4%, 77.8–93.3%, and 73.8–110.8% in the spiked soil, rice, soybean, and corn samples, respectively. These results show the possibility that the highly selective separation and enrichment of trace sulfonylurea herbicides from soil and crop samples can be achieved by the molecular imprinting modification at the surface of silica nanoparticles. Abstract: This paper reports the preparation of high density imprinted layer-coated silica nanoparticles toward selective recognition and fast enrichment of chlorpyrifos (CP) from complicated matrices. The molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) were successfully coated at the surface of modified silica through using the chemical immovable vinyl groups at the nanoparticles’ surface, followed by the graft copolymerization of methacrylic acid (MAA) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) in the presence of templates CP. It has been demonstrated that the space of end vinyl groups at the surface of silica can be controlled by changing the condition of chemical modification, regulating the thickness of imprinted shells and the density of efficient imprinted sites. After removal of templates by solvent extraction, the recognition sites of CP were created in the polymer coating layer. The CP-imprinted nanoparticles exhibited high recognition selectivity and binding affinity to CP analyte. When the CP-imprinted nanoparticles were used as dispersive solid-phase extraction (dSPE) materials, the high recovery yields of 76.1–93.5% from various spiked samples with only 1μg/mL analyte were achieved by one-step extraction. These results reported herein provide the possibility for the separation and enrichment of CP from complicated matrices by the molecular imprinting modification at the surface of common silica nanoparticles. Abstract: High-quality CdSe quantum dots with less common zinc blende structure were prepared in non-coordinating solvent 1-octadecene, with environment-friendly N,N-dimethyl-oleoyl amide as an alternative chemical to replace trioctylphoshine for Se powder, oleic acid as primary capping ligands, and benzophenone as secondary ligands. The temporal evolution of the optical properties of the nanocrystals with different growth temperature was monitored. Significant redshifts occurred with the increase of the growth temperature. The sharpness of the first absorption peaks and the narrow emission band with full width at the half-maximum of about 30nm indicates that the size distribution of the resulting quantum dots is narrow. Abstract: This paper demonstrates a new electrochemical method for the detection of ultratrace amount of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) with synthetic copolypeptide-doped polyaniline nanofibers. The copolypeptide, comprising of glutamic acid (Glu) and lysine (Lys) units, is in situ doped into polyaniline through the protonation of the imine nitrogen atoms of polyaniline by the free carboxylic groups of Glu segments, resulting in the formation of polyaniline nanofibers of emeraldine salt. The free amino groups of Lys segments at the surface of nanofibers provide the receptor sites of TNT through the formation of charge–transfer complex between the electron-rich amino groups and the electron-deficient aromatic rings. Adsorptive stripping voltammetry results demonstrate that the poly(Glu-Lys)-doped nanofibers confined onto glassy carbon electrodes exhibit a remarkable enriching effect and thus sensitive electrochemical response to TNT with a linear dynamic range of 0.5–10μM and a detection limit down to 100nM. Moreover, other kinds of nitro compounds show different redox behaviors from TNT at the doped nanofibers, and thus do not interfere with the electrochemical detection of TNT. In this work, amino-functionalized mesoporous silica nanospheres (NH 2 -mSiO 2) anchored with carbon dots (CDs) have been designed to construct an outstanding fluorescent sensor for heavy metal detection. Uniform mSiO 2 was chosen to provide an optically transparent scaffold for immobilizing CDs. With the help of amino group modification on the surface of silica, benzene-1,4-diboronic acid (BA) was used as raw material to load CDs in the pores of mSiO 2 by one-step solvothermal method. The proposed nanohybrid can solve the problem of aggregation-induced fluorescence quenching, leading to bright blue emission at 450 nm. Meanwhile, the fluorescence of NH 2 -mSiO 2 @CDs showed high sensitivity to Cr(VI) in acetic acid buffer solution (pH = 4) with detection limit as low as 5 nM by inner filter effect (IFE) and electrostatic interaction (EI). The proposed method can also be extended to other CDs-based detection systems for chemical/biological sensors. Abstract: A much cheaper and greener route to monodisperse CdSe quantum dots (QDs) with zinc-blende structure has been developed. The N,N-dimethyl-oleoyl amide was chosen as the solvent, eliminating the needs of air-sensitive and toxic trioctylphosphine (TOP) or tributylphosphine (TBP), and cadmium oxide and elemental selenium as sources. The as-prepared CdSe QDs show an apparent blue-shift in the ultraviolet and visible (UV–vis) absorption peaks. The emission peak of the QDs can be tuned by changing synthesis time only. Investigating the interactions between lipid droplets (LDs) and other organelles are greatly significant to the in-depth understand the physiology and pathology of LDs. Despite of commercial LDs probes available, the ER and other membrane structures are also stained due to their amphiphilicity, which limits their further applications. To address this issue, we herein report a highly hydrophobic fluorescent probe to specifically label intracellular LDs with high signal/noise ratio, avoiding undesirable staining of ER and thus achieving to real-time monitor the interactions between LDs and other organelles. The probe showed strong emission in lipid environments but no fluorescence in water and liposomes, enabling the probe with high signal/noise ratio. Using this probe, it was found that the contacts of LDs with ER and mitochondria clearly increased under the condition of starvation. • A highly hydrophobic fluorescent molecule was successfully synthesized, which can specifically target lipid droplets. • The signal-to-noise ratio of the synthesized fluorescent probe is much higher than that of commercial dyes. • The interactions of lipid droplets with mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum were studied.
