Fear approach is a theorized mechanism of exposure treatment for anxiety-based disorders. However, there are no empirically established self-report instruments measuring the tendency to approach feared stimuli. Because clinical fears are heterogeneous, it is important to create a measure that is adaptable to person- or disorder-specific fears. The current study (N = 455) tests the development, factor structure, and psychometric properties of a self-report instrument of fear approach broadly and the adaptability of this measure to specific eating disorder fears (i.e., food, weight gain). Factor analyses identified a unidimensional, nine-item factor structure as the best fitting model. This measure had good convergent, divergent, and incremental validity and good internal consistency. The eating disorder adaptations retained good fit and strong psychometric properties. These results suggest that this measure is a valid, reliable, and adaptable measure of fear approach, which can be used in research and exposure therapy treatment for anxiety-based disorders. Introduction and objective: The parapharyngeal space is a deep space of the head and neck of important anatomical difficulty. Although it is a region where only 0.5% of craniocervical tumors are located and most of these are benign, it presents a large number of neurovascular structures essential for the patient's life, and since the optimal treatment of these neoformations is surgical, the study and knowledge of this area is essential for proper patient care. Methods: We present two cases of patients operated on for large tumors of the parapharyngeal space in the Otorhinolaryngology Department of the Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valladolid (HCUV) in the last 3 years using two different approaches (external approach and endoscopic endonasal approach). Results: The first patient is a 79-year-old man who underwent a right cervicotomy, excision of a parapharyngeal-cervical tumor and transoral excision (TOUSS) of a base of tongue tumor due to an acinar cell carcinoma located in the right parapharyngeal pre-stylar space. The second patient is a 42-year-old female patient operated by endoscopic nasosinusal surgery (transpterygoid approach of the infratemporal fossa) for a tumor occupying the left pterygopalatine and infratemporal fossae with a diagnosis of schwannoma. Discussion: External approaches have classically been the most widely used surgical approach, mainly because of their optimal exposure of the entire surgical field. Its main disadvantages are the great impact on tissue functionality, postoperative complications, surgical time and hospitalization time as in the case of the first patient, who required a 10-day hospitalization, two days of post-surgical orotracheal intubation, rehabilitation and complementary post-surgical treatment with radiotherapy. Endoscopic approaches avoid facial scarring and have more comfortable and less painful postoperative periods for patients, as in the case of the second patient, with a 3-day hospital stay. Their limited visibility, less control of the internal carotid artery (ICA) in case of injury, and the possibility of tumor spillage (pleomorphic adenoma) make endoscopic approaches of limited application at present. Conclusions: Tumors of the parapharyngeal space are a complex pathology and difficult to treat. Currently, complete surgical excision remains the treatment of choice. Because this anatomical area is particularly complex and presents a wide variety of relevant neurovascular structures, a thorough pre-surgical study of these structures is essential to avoid complications. Introduction and objective: The parapharyngeal space is a deep craniocervical space where primary tumors are exceptional, constituting only 0.5% of all head and neck neoformations. Benign lesions represent 70-80%, with pleomorphic adenoma being the most frequent tumor in this location. The treatment of choice at present continues to be complete surgical resection of the lesion. Although classically the most commonly used surgical approach has been the external approach, nowadays, with the appearance of endoscopic techniques, new methods of approach useful for the resection of parapharyngeal tumors have been described. Methods: We present a systematic review of external, endonasal and transoral surgical approaches to the parapharyngeal space, with a total of 1725 patients and 92 (sides) of cadavers where the type of approach used/studied in each surgery was analyzed, comparing both the advantages and disadvantages offered by each of them. Results: The systematic review has a total of 40 articles, 1654 patients and 92 (sides) of cadavers where the type of approach used/studied in each surgery was analyzed. Discussion: External approaches have classically been the most used type of surgical approach. They present important advantages such as being the only type of approach with which the surgical field is completely exposed. The drawbacks include a great impact on the functionality of the tissues, a wide variety of postoperative complications and a longer surgical time and hospital admission time. Endoscopic approaches have had great development in recent years and present advantages such as being less damaging surgeries in terms of tissue functionality, avoiding facial scars or more comfortable and less painful post-operative treatments for the patient. But they also have drawbacks such as a lack of space or surgical scope of the technique and a limited application, which depends on both the size and type of tumor that the patient has. Conclusions: Although traditionally the most commonly used surgical approach has been the external approach, in recent decades and especially strikingly and relevantly in recent years, endoscopic surgery has been a revulsive when performing surgeries in this location. Both endonasal and transoral endoscopic approaches, with or without the use of robotic technology, have made it possible to operate on parapharyngeal lesions with less functional repercussions, a more comfortable and less painful postoperative period, and less prolonged hospitalization than with traditional techniques. Introduction Meningiomas—the most common extra-axial tumors—are benign, slow-growing dural-based lesions that can involve multiple cranial fossae and can progress insidiously for years until coming to clinical attention secondary to compression of adjacent neurovascular structures. For complex, multicompartmental lesions, multistaged surgeries have been increasingly shown to enhance maximal safe resection while minimizing adverse sequela. Here, we systematically review the extant literature to highlight the merits of staged resection. Methods PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were queried to identify articles reporting resections of intracranial meningiomas using a multistaged approach, and articles were screened for possible inclusion in a systematic process performed by two authors. Results Of 118 identified studies, 36 describing 169 patients (mean age 42.6 ± 21.3 years) met inclusion/exclusion criteria. Petroclival lesions comprised 57% of cases, with the most common indications for a multistaged approach being large size, close approximation of critical neurovascular structures, minimization of brain retraction, identification and ligation of deep vessels feeding the tumor, and resection of residual tumor found on postoperative imaging. Most second-stage surgeries occurred within 3 months of the index surgery. Few complications were reported and multistaged resections appeared to be well tolerated overall. Conclusions Current literature suggests multistaged approaches for meningioma resection are well-tolerated. However, there is insufficient comparative evidence to draw definitive conclusions about its advantages over an unstaged approach. There are similarly insufficient data to generate an evidence-based decision-making framework for when a staged approach should be employed. This highlights the need for collaborative efforts among skull base surgeons to establish an evidentiary to support the use of staged approaches and to outline those indications that merit such an approach. Objectives: This study compared levels of discomfort among three positions for ultrasound‐guided carpal tunnel injections (USCTI) to potentially facilitate and improve the procedure's tolerability in treating carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Methods: Ambulatory Veterans referred for electromyography (EMG) evaluation of CTS were eligible for the study; a total of 30 participants were evaluated. Participants were asked to hold three different positions: 1) Hypersupination, 2) Airplane, and 3) total supported abduction (TSA). Participants rated their pain level, ease of performing/holding each position, exacerbation of underlying symptoms, and position preference. Results were analyzed with two‐way repeated measures ANOVA. Results: Hypersupination was determined to be the least preferred and most painful position to hold, demonstrating a statistically significant increase in the Numeric Rating Scale score for pain during the procedure compared with Airplane and TSA, which were not significantly different from one another. Pre‐procedure neck, shoulder, elbow, and wrist pain were not significantly associated with intra‐procedure pain. Conclusions: When performing USCTI, patient comfort can be optimized by avoiding Hypersupination. Utilizing the Airplane or TSA positions may provide similar access for ulnar approach injections while inducing lower levels of discomfort. Background: The application of the suprapatellar (SP) approach has challenged the traditional infrapatellar (IP) approach in the surgery treatment of tibial shaft fractures, yet the advantages and disadvantages still remain controversial. We included more high-quality studies for this meta-analysis and systematic review to evaluate the clinical outcomes and prognosis of both approaches and thus to provide new ideas for surgeons. Method: We searched literatures from PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases from January 2000 to December 2022. We extracted general information including sample size, gender, proportion of open fracture, follow-up time, and outcome indicators including entrance accuracy, fluoroscopy time, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, Lysholm score, VAS pain score, range of motion (ROM) function score, reposition accuracy, and revision cases. Cochrane Collaboration's tool and the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale were used to evaluate literature qualities. Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4 software. Results: A total of 23 studies were generated that qualified for inclusion, 17 of which were used for meta-analysis. This study found statistically significant differences in coronal plane entrance accuracy, fluoroscopy time, Lysholm score, and VAS pain score. Conclusion: The results of our meta-analysis showed that the SP approach was significantly better than the IP approach in angle and distance entrance accuracy of coronal plane, angle entrance accuracy of sagittal plane, fluoroscopy time, Lysholm score, and VAS pain score. This paper aims to investigate the incorporation of the ILP approach in the research area. It assesses If this approach has been incorporated into crime fighting in the police station's areas which form part of the research. The research was based in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The aim was to establish the incorporation of ILP in the day-to-day operation of the police, and 8 participants were drawn between the CIO and OPO stationed in four districts (Mkhanyakude, Zululand, uThukela, and Amajuba). The participants included two former police officers (one former Commander of CI and a former Station Commander) who were used to validate information by active police officers. One District Commander was also interviewed. Qualitative research methodology was followed to conduct the research and a purposive method of data gathering was used targeting police officers who work in crime intelligence units and those who have authority over the operational members of the SAPS. They provided information that was used to determine the incorporation of the ILP in the day-to-day operation of the SAPS in the research area. The paper found that this policing approach has not been incorporated into some components of policing in the research area. The major identified stumbling in the incorporation is the structural arrangement of the Crime Intelligence Unit which does not sync with crime combating at the station level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This present research paper explores the impact of minimizing the use of Spanish during the English-language teaching process, to generate a significant learning environment that enhances the language acquisition process and proficiency achievement. The literature review presents a deep analysis of communicative language teaching principles and the positive impact and benefits that immersion provides especially on cultural integration and language competencies. In addition, it also presents some worldwide-known strategies that are used by teachers to minimize the use of the native language in the classroom, such as Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), visual aids, and the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Finally, the research provides some recommendations for future studies, encouraging further research on different educational levels, as well as the exploration of teacher training programs considering the significance of minimizing the use of the student's native language, in this specific case Spanish, lies in its enormous transforming potential to encourage dynamic English language learning environments, preparing students to succeed in a globalized world. Introduction: Whether a combined anterior–posterior (AP) approach offers additional benefits over the posterior-only (P) approach in adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery remains unknown. In a cohort of patients undergoing ASD surgery, we compared the combined AP vs. the P-only approach in: (1) preoperative/perioperative variables, (2) radiographic measurements, and (3) postoperative outcomes. Methods: A single-institution, retrospective cohort study was performed for patients undergoing ASD surgery from 2009 to 2021. Inclusion criteria were ≥5-level fusion, sagittal/coronal deformity, and 2-year follow-up. The primary exposure was the operative approach: a combined AP approach or P alone. Postoperative outcomes included mechanical complications, reoperation, and minimal clinically important difference (MCID), defined as 30% of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). Multivariable linear regression was controlled for age, BMI, and previous fusion. Results: Among 238 patients undergoing ASD surgery, 34 (14.3%) patients underwent the AP approach and 204 (85.7%) underwent the P-only approach. The AP group consisted mostly of anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) at L5/S1 (73.5%) and/or L4/L5 (38.0%). Preoperatively, the AP group had more previous fusions (64.7% vs. 28.9%, p < 0.001), higher pelvic tilt (PT) (29.6 ± 11.6° vs. 24.6 ± 11.4°, p = 0.037), higher T1 pelvic angle (T1PA) (31.8 ± 12.7° vs. 24.0 ± 13.9°, p = 0.003), less L1-S1 lordosis (−14.7 ± 28.4° vs. −24.3 ± 33.4°, p < 0.039), less L4-S1 lordosis (−25.4 ± 14.7° vs. 31.6 ± 15.5°, p = 0.042), and higher sagittal vertical axis (SVA) (102.6 ± 51.9 vs. 66.4 ± 71.2 mm, p = 0.005). Perioperatively, the AP approach had longer operative time (553.9 ± 177.4 vs. 397.4 ± 129.0 min, p < 0.001), more interbodies placed (100% vs. 17.6%, p < 0.001), and longer length of stay (8.4 ± 10.7 vs. 7.0 ± 9.6 days, p = 0.026). Radiographically, the AP group had more improvement in T1PA (13.4 ± 8.7° vs. 9.5 ± 8.6°, p = 0.005), L1-S1 lordosis (−14.3 ± 25.6° vs. −3.2 ± 20.2°, p < 0.001), L4-S1 lordosis (−4.7 ± 16.4° vs. 3.2 ± 13.7°, p = 0.008), and SVA (65.3 ± 44.8 vs. 44.8 ± 47.7 mm, p = 0.007). These outcomes remained statistically significant in the multivariable analysis controlling for age, BMI, and previous fusion. Postoperatively, no significant differences were found in mechanical complications, reoperations, or MCID of PROMs. Conclusions: Preoperatively, patients undergoing the combined anterior–posterior approach had higher PT, T1PA, and SVA and lower L1-S1 and L4-S1 lordosis than the posterior-only approach. In the current era, the prevalence of common ailments is leading to an increasing number of fatalities. Various infections, viruses, and other pathogens can cause these illnesses. Some illnesses can give rise to tumors that seriously threaten human health. Distinct forms of tumors exist, including benign, premalignant, and malignant, with cancer being present only in malignant forms. Deep learning (DL) algorithms have emerged as one of the most promising methods for detecting cancers within the human body. However, existing models face criticism for their limitations, such as lack of support for large datasets, and reliance on a limited number of attributes from input images. To address these limitations and enable efficient cancer detection throughout the human body, an intelligent decision-making approach model (IDMA) is proposed. The IDMA is combined with the pre-trained VGG19 for improved training. The IDMA analyses convolutional neural network (CNN) layer images for signs of malignancy and rules out false positives. Various performance indicators, like sensitivity, precision, recall, and F1-score, are used to assess the system's performance. The suggested system has been evaluated and proven to outperform similar current systems, achieving an impressive 98.67% accuracy in detecting cancer cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Literature meta-analyses comparing transperitoneal versus retroperitoneal approach to robotic partial nephrectomy (RPN) suggested some advantages favoring retroperitoneoscopy. Unfortunately, patient-centered data about mobilization, canalization, pain, and use of painkillers remained anecdotally reported. The present analysis aimed to compare transperitoneal versus retroperitoneal RPN focusing on such outcomes. Study data including baseline variables, perioperative, and postoperative outcomes of interest were retrieved from prospectively maintained institutional database (Jan 2018–May 2023) and compared between treatment groups (transperitoneal versus retroperitoneal). Propensity score matching was performed using the STATA command psmatch2 considering age, sex, body mass index, previous abdominal surgery, RENAL score, tumor size and location, and cT stage. The logit of propensity score was used for matching, with a 1:1 nearest neighbor algorithm, without replacement (caliper of 0.001). A total of 442 patients were included in the unmatched analysis: 330 underwent transperitoneal RPN 112 retroperitoneal RPN. After propensity score, 98 patients who underwent retroperitoneal RPN were matched with 98 patients who underwent transperitoneal RPN. Matched cohorts had comparable patients’ demographics and tumor features. We found similarity between the two laparoscopic accesses in all outcomes but in blood loss, which favored retroperitoneoscopic RPN (median 150 (IQR 100–300) versus 100 (IQR 0–100) ml, p = 0.03). No differences were found in terms of time to mobilization with ambulation, return to complete bowel function, postoperative pain, but higher painkillers consumption was reported after transperitoneal RPN (p < 0.004). The present study compared the transperitoneal versus the retroperitoneal approach to RPN, confirming the similarity between the two approaches in all perioperative outcomes. Introduction: The research in this paper was adapted to provide insight into the expectations, prejudices, and openness of higher education students of the University of Prishtina to the inclusion of literary material in the teaching/learning of English and French as a second foreign language (FL2). Simultaneously, as the modern and technologically developed world requires, the paper deals with the opinion on the contribution of appealing teaching material and technology aids in the acceptance of literary works (LWs) in foreign language learning (FLL). Purpose: Apart from some excerpts in the course books, LW inclusion in foreign language learning (FLL) is almost non-existent in the Kosovo education system. Through this study, we concurrently aim to raise the awareness of the students of the advantages that literary works can bring into the foreign language classroom incurring learner-centred teaching/learning, progression of critical thinking and judgment skills as well as sharing experiences and opinions through non-linear and more spontaneous manner. Method: In this study, 69 respondents are freshmen at the University of Prishtina (UP), Faculty of Philology who are mainly future teachers of foreign languages and elected English and French language as their FL2. The method used in this paper consists of quantitative and qualitative approaches aiming for a more thorough analysis through the SPSS statistical computer program and descriptive statistics. Conclusion: The findings revealed that the students have a positive approach to the merge of LWs and foreign language learning, less through printed LWs and more through digitized literature. Hence, applying the merging of literature with language, in the new pedagogical practices and English/French language curricula can be optimistic expectations. Significance: The significance of the study lies in the fact that this under-investigated issue can help in creating insight into the current condition in FL classrooms and help FL curriculum changes in the Kosovo middle and upper high schools as well as higher education FL course curriculum. This study raises hope for merging language and literature in FL classrooms.

Abstract Background and Aims One of the greatest public health problems of the 21st century is undernutrition in children under the age of 5 years (CAUFY). Globally, over 232 million CUAFY are undernourished and approximately 45% of mortality in this population are undernutrition‐induced. This paper reviewed and critically explained the factors perpetuating undernutrition in CUAFY in the global space. It further explained the multi‐level determinants that influence health inequalities and consequently exacerbate undernutrition amongst CUAFY globally. It also went further to explain the intervention models and approaches that can be used to tackle undernutrition in CUAFY. Methods/Literature Search Strategy Demiris et al.'s approach to narrative review was utilized for this paper. Relevant articles on child nutrition were retrieved from multiple credible databases and websites of foremost health organizations. Using an iterative process, multiple combinations of search terms were done by stringing relevant key terms and their synonyms with Boolean Operators. This process was constantly refined to align search results with the study aim. Database search produced relevant and resourceful publications which were utilized to develop this review. Results The global burden of undernutrition remains high, especially in Oceania with the highest prevalence of stunting and wasting (41.4% and 12.5%), with Africa and Asia following closely. Malnutrition eradication is a global health issue of high priority as demonstrated by the “Goal 2” of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the United Nations (UN) Decade of Action on Nutrition 2016–2025. The review identified no significant positive outcome from previous interventions due to the endemic health inequalities. Determinants of the multi‐level health inequalities associated with undernutrition in CUAFY, and probable solutions are explained with theoretical models of health inequalities. A diagonal intervention approach was proposed as a viable solution to ending undernutrition in CUAFY. Conclusion The application of relevant theoretical models and context‐specific intervention approaches can be utilized by stakeholders to close the existing inequality gaps, thereby reducing undernutrition amongst CUAFY globally.

Abstract Background Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a common cause of craniofacial pain. The retrosigmoid approach is usually used to treat TN, but no cases of endoscopic far-lateral supracerebellar infratentorial approach (EF-SCITA) were used to undergo operation for TN. Case presentation Two patients were presented with severe facial pain and preliminary diagnosis was TN. Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging revealed that a superior cerebellar artery (SCA) compressed the trigeminal nerve in case 1, and a tumor located in the petrous apex extending into the Meckel’s cave compressed the trigeminal nerve in case 2. Operations were achieved through the EF-SCITA. The pain was totally relieved with no postsurgical complications in both cases. Conclusions We present the first two case reports of EF-SCITA to relieve classical and secondary TN successfully. The EF-SCITA can be a promising approach for treating TN.

Background: Low protocol adherence hinders sepsis care in Nigeria. This study assessed the knowledge, strategy, and perceived barriers of physicians to prompt detection and treatment of sepsis. Methods: The researchers conducted a cross-sectional survey of physicians at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). Participation was open to all LUTH physicians. Between June and December 2022, a self-administered questionnaire was sent to the platforms of physicians. Participants' mean scores on knowledge, approach, and barriers to sepsis care were calculated. Analysis of variance was used to compare the mean scores between physician cadres. A 0.05 two-sided P value was deemed statistically significant. Results: The study included 165 physicians. The mean age (standard deviation) was 38.25 (9.7), with 92 (55.8%) males. Only eight (4.8%) physicians had a 75% comprehension of sepsis. Only three respondents (1.8%) achieved 75% on sepsis care per surviving sepsis campaign standards. One hundred and thirty-eight (83.6%) respondents indicated significant barriers to sepsis treatment. Senior registrars had higher knowledge scores, while interns scored lowest (F = 3.508, P = 0.009). The mean scores of approaches to sepsis care among cadres were not significant (F = 1.692, P = 0.154). Conclusion: This study revealed that clinicians in a tertiary hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, had inadequate knowledge, especially among lower cadre doctors, and a suboptimal approach to the management of sepsis patients, as well as substantial barriers to their care. There is a need to provide physicians with tailored training on the diagnosis and correct approach to the care of patients with sepsis, as well as provide job aids to help with decision-making in the emergency rooms.

The paper aims to determine the criteria and sub-criteria for evaluating the contractor’s performance and finalize a master list of the criteria and sub-criteria to be used for evaluating contractor’s performance with their respective weights. The method is incorporated in the framework proposed for the evaluation of the contractor’s performance during the execution phase. An exploratory study has been opted, using a structured, close-ended multiple-choice questionnaire survey approach. The questionnaire survey was conducted in two phases, i.e. validation survey, and reliability survey. Fifteen experts responded to the validation survey, and thirty experts to the reliability survey. The experts were from Government and public sectors in India, working at various senior levels. The weights of criteria and sub-criteria were calculated from data collected in the survey, relative importance was calculated through the relative importance index and criteria were ranked. The paper provides criteria and subcriteria which were finalized through a questionnaire survey by classification of criteria identified in literature and tender review. The respective weights were finalized, which can be measured while evaluating contractors’ performance. The weights assigned to criteria through the survey are; health and safety is 13.19%, followed by finance 11.93%, time 11.93%, quality 13.38%, client satisfaction 12.42%, environmental safety 12.32%, productivity 12.51% and regulation 12.32%. The paper provides the criteria and sub-criteria with their weights needed for evaluating the performance of contractors during the project execution phase. This research can lead to a culture of continuous measurement of performance for the satisfactory completion of projects.

Religion (Islam) is always seen with a single face, even though many multidimensional aspects of Islam need to be researched. In general, the study of Islam that is not comprehensive is caused by the weakness of Muslims in mastering the methodology, not the mastery of Islamic teaching material. A new paradigm is needed to review the Islamic thought pattern as a solution to the problems of the Ummah so that it will make religion multi-face. Religious phenomena humans must be seen through the angle of understanding historicity, but only through the normative teachings revelation. This research aims to revitalise different approaches in Islamic studies so that Islam can become a religion that focuses on rahmatan lil ‘âlamîn instead of la’natan lil ‘âlamîn. With qualitative research methods and a descriptive-analytic approach sourced from various literature and data obtained from several journal articles, books, and especially data sources related to research. The result is that through the urgency of various inter-multidisciplinary to transdisciplinary approaches that form a spider web, in the sense of being integrated and connected, Islamic messages can be contextualised and can become shâlih li kulli zamân wa al-makân, so that the religious science branch (Islam) will not feel enough with itself without wanting to touch and relate to other sciences (al-Muhâfadzoh 'alâ al-Qodîm al-Shôlih wa al-Akhdzu bi al-Jadîd al-Ashlâh).

The purpose of this article is the methodological aspects of the development of project-based higher education at a machine -building university, the object of the article – higher education in mechanical engineering, the purpose of the article is to increase the efficiency of the processes of development of project higher education at the University of mechanical Engineering, to achieve this goal, the following tasks are solved: research of the essence of project education in mechanical engineering, clarification of the concept of "paradigm of development of project higher education in mechanical engineering", description of the structure and content of the elements of the structure of the paradigm of development of the named project education at the University of mechanical engineering, structure discussion, the essence and content of the directions of development of such project education; research methods are historical, logical, structural analysis, qualitative analysis, predictive analysis, synthesis, search and heuristic forecasting, heuristic assessments; scientific novelty of the work is associated with the study of the essence of project education in mechanical engineering and the formation of methodological foundations for the development of the concept and policy of development of project higher education in mechanical engineering universities in the interests of improving the quality of higher education.

The issues of developing ideas about approaches to assessing the investment potential and investment attractiveness of Russian regions are considered. The characteristics of the reasons for the emergence of interest in studying the topic of investment attractiveness are given. The identification of stages in the development of research and changes in approaches to assessment is justified. The advantages and disadvantages of the traditional approach to the study of investment potential as a component of investment attractiveness are analyzed. The relevance of applying the approach to studying investment potential is substantiated from the standpoint of assessing the completeness of its use to ensure socioeconomic development.

Not much has been said about Mexican teachers’ teaching practices regarding teamwork in higher education. Ruiz-Esparza Barajas et al. (2016) discussed university teachers’ perceptions of out-of-class teamwork. As part of the second stage of a larger project which attempts to shed light on university teaching practices regarding out-of-class teamwork, this study examines teachers’ practices of out-of-class teamwork from the assessment perspective. Teachers’ approaches to the evaluation of the outcomes of teamwork are a relatively unexplored area, especially in the Latin-American context. This qualitative research study accounts for the teamwork assigned by education or subject-related teachers and their evaluation approaches. Data collected from recorded interviews of twelve teachers working with teachers-to-be in 8 Mexican universities were transcribed to identify their beliefs and practices regarding evaluating out-of-class teamwork. The outcome of the analysis reveals teachers use teamwork for varied reasons and purposes; their expected outcomes are also dissimilar. While some teachers feel satisfied with their approach to evaluating out-of-class teamwork, others feel there is still work to do in this area. It may be suggested that this could be related to their initial purpose in using out-of-class teamwork.

The policy of family law in Indonesia is based on principles stipulated in the Civil Code (Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Perdata or KUHPerdata) and several other laws that regulate marriage, divorce, children's rights, and joint property in marriage. In formulating policies, a classic approach has been traditionally used. This research employs a library method, which involves collecting relevant texts and manuscripts for analysis and conclusions. The following are some important family law policies in Indonesia: marriage, divorce, children's rights, and joint property in marriage. Fiqh not only faces difficulties in resolving various social problems and issues but also struggles in defining itself, particularly in the context of formulating legal methods to address these problems. As an initial step toward reconstructing fiqh, this article attempts to propose a solution in fiqh methodology, namely a unified approach to Shari'ah and social inference. In essence, this method aims to bridge and "integrate" the textual (normative) and contextual (historical-empirical) approaches simultaneously within an "Islamic" scientific research model. Background: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a common cause of craniofacial pain. The retrosigmoid approach is usually used to treat TN, but no cases of endoscopic far-lateral supracerebellar infratentorial approach (EF-SCITA) were used to undergo operation for TN. Case presentation: Two patients were presented with severe facial pain and preliminary diagnosis was TN. Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging revealed that a superior cerebellar artery (SCA) compressed the trigeminal nerve in case 1, and a tumor located in the petrous apex extending into the Meckel's cave compressed the trigeminal nerve in case 2. Operations were achieved through the EF-SCITA. The pain was totally relieved with no postsurgical complications in both cases. Conclusions: We present the first two case reports of EF-SCITA to relieve classical and secondary TN successfully. The EF-SCITA can be a promising approach for treating TN. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The most common approaches in total hip arthroplasty (THA) have different complication profiles; anterior-approach (AA-THA) has an increased risk of periprosthetic fractures (PPF); posterior-approach (PA-THA) is associated with higher dislocation risk. However, the relative severity of one versus the other is unknown. This study aims to compare outcome of patients who suffered PPF after AA-THA with those that sustained dislocation after PA-THA. Methods: This is a retrospective, single-center, multi-surgeon, consecutive case-series of primary THA patients. In a cohort of 9867 patients who underwent THA, 79 fulfilled the approach-specific, post-operative complication criteria, of which 44 were PPF after AA-THA and 35 with dislocation after PA-THA (age 67.9 years (range: 38.0–88.1), 58.2% women). Outcome included complication- and revision- rates, and patient-reported outcomes including Oxford Hip Score (OHS). Results: At 5.8 years follow-up (range: 2.0–18.5), reoperation was more common in the dislocation after PA-THA group (23/35 vs. 20/44; p = 0.072). Change of surgical approach occurred in 15/20 of patients with PPF after AA-THA, but none in those with dislocation after PA-THA. Following re-operation, complication rate was greater in the PPF group (9/20 vs. 4/23; p = 0.049). At latest follow-up, OHS were superior in the PPF after AA-THA group [42.6 (range: 25.0–48.0) vs. 36.6 (range: 21.0–47.0); p = 0.006]. Conclusion: Dislocation following PA-THA is more likely to require revision. However, PPF following AA-THA requires more often a different surgical approach and is at higher risk of complications. Despite the increased surgical burden post-operative PROMs are better in the peri-prosthetic fracture group, especially in cases not requiring reoperation. Purpose: Reverse total shoulder replacement (rTSR) improves pain and function in patients with a wide range of shoulder pathology. Anterosuperior (AS) and deltopectoral (DP) approaches are widely used to gain access to the glenohumeral joint in arthroplasty. Our aim was to systematically review the literature comparing outcomes of these two approaches when performing rTSR for degenerative glenohumeral arthritis. Methods: Systematic review was performed with an electronic multi-database search (Pubmed, Medline & Embase) according to PRISMA guidelines on 18th September 2022. Data from published studies of any study design that met the inclusion criteria were extracted, reviewed and synthesized. Results: A total of 38 studies were identified for full text review, of which four were included. No significant difference in pain and range of motion were observed between approaches. Scapular notching was more common in the anterosuperior approach. Low rates of instability and intra-operative fracture were observed in both. Conclusion: Both approaches demonstrate similar clinical outcomes with reference to pain, range of motion and complications when performing rTSR indicated for degenerative joint disease. Introduction: As recent studies demonstrate an ongoing debate surrounding outcomes and complications with respect to different total hip arthroplasty (THA) approaches, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) may provide valuable information for clinician and patient decision-making. Therefore, our systematic review aimed to assess how surgical approach influences patient-reported outcomes. Methods: 5 online databases were queried for all studies published between January 1, 1997 and March 4, 2022 that reported on PROMs across various surgical approaches to THA. Studies reporting on PROMs in primary THA patients segregated by surgical approach were included. Articles reporting on revision THA, hip resurfacing, and arthroscopy were excluded. Mantel-Haenszel (M-H) models were utilised to calculate the pooled mean difference (MDs) and 95% confidence interval (CIs). Results: No differences between the DAA and other approaches were observed when evaluating HOOS (MD −0.28; 95% CI, −1.98–1.41; p = 0.74), HHS (MD 2.38; 95% CI, −0.27–5.03; p = 0.08), OHS (MD 1.35; 95% CI, −2.00–4.71; p = 0.43), FJS-12 (MD 5.88; 95% CI, −0.36–12.12; p = 0.06), VAS-pain (MD −0.32; 95% CI, −0.68–0.04; p = 0.08), and WOMAC-pain (MD −0.73; 95% CI, −3.85–2.39; p = 0.65) scores. WOMAC (MD 2.47; 95% CI, 0.54–4.40; p = 0.01) and EQ-5D Index (MD 0.03; 95% CI, 0.01–0.06; p = 0.002) scores were found to significantly favour the DAA cohort over the other approaches. Only the EQ-5D index score remained significant following sensitivity analysis. Conclusions: Superiority of any 1 approach could not be concluded based on the mixed findings of the present analysis. Although our pooled analysis found no significant differences in outcomes except for those measured by the EQ-5D index, a few additional metrics, notably the WOMAC, HHS, FJS-12, and VAS-pain scores, leaned in favour of the DAA. Background: Anxiety, approach, and avoidance motivation crucially influence mental and physical health, especially when environments are stressful. The interplay between anxiety and behavioral motivation is modulated by multiple individual factors. This proof‐of‐concept study applies graph‐theoretical network analysis to explore complex associations between self‐reported trait anxiety, approach and avoidance motivation, situational anxiety, stress symptoms, perceived threat, perceived positive consequences of approach, and self‐reported avoidance behavior in real‐life threat situations. Methods: A total of 436 participants who were matched on age and gender (218 psychotherapy patients, 218 online‐recruited nonpatients) completed an online survey assessing these factors in response to the COVID‐19 pandemic. Results and Discussion: The resulting cross‐sectional psychological network revealed a complex pattern with multiple positive (e.g., between trait anxiety, avoidance motivation, and avoidance behavior) and negative associations (e.g., between approach and avoidance motivation). Approach–avoidance conflicts are a hallmark of anxiety-related behaviors. A gold standard for assessing anxiety-related behaviors in rodents is the elevated plus-maze (EPM), which was recently translated to humans using immersive virtual reality. Repeated behavioral testing is particularly interesting for clinical and pharmacological research in humans but could be limited by habituation effects. Here, we tested whether comparable strategies that are used in rodents (different environments and inter-trial interval of 28 days) are sufficient to avoid habituation or sensitization effects on the EPM, making it possible to perform repeated measurement of anxiety-related behavior in humans. Moreover, we developed two novel virtual environments for repeated testing to explore whether a scenario resembling the real world is superior to a video game-like EPM in terms of lifelike physiological, emotional, and behavioral responses. On a behavioral level, no significant differences but a high correlation between first and repeated exposure to the human EPM independent of EPM version were found. On a psychophysiological level, salivary alpha-amylase, skin-conductance, and respiratory frequency increased at first and second exposure independent of EPM version. However, at repeated exposure, skin-conductance and heart rate showed indicators for anticipatory anxiety and a small sensitization effect, while no effect of real-world resemblance on these physiological measures was found. This was also reflected in slightly higher subjective anxiety levels at second exposure, although subjective anxiety still correlated strongly between first and second exposure. In conclusion, the human EPM can be used for longitudinal assessments of human anxiety-related behavior when strategies to avoid habituation and sensitization are considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Low protocol adherence hinders sepsis care in Nigeria. This study assessed the knowledge, strategy, and perceived barriers of physicians to prompt detection and treatment of sepsis. Methods: The researchers conducted a cross-sectional survey of physicians at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). Participation was open to all LUTH physicians. Between June and December 2022, a self-administered questionnaire was sent to the platforms of physicians. Participants' mean scores on knowledge, approach, and barriers to sepsis care were calculated. Analysis of variance was used to compare the mean scores between physician cadres. A 0.05 two-sided P value was deemed statistically significant. Results: The study included 165 physicians. The mean age (standard deviation) was 38.25 (9.7), with 92 (55.8%) males. Only eight (4.8%) physicians had a 75% comprehension of sepsis. Only three respondents (1.8%) achieved 75% on sepsis care per surviving sepsis campaign standards. One hundred and thirty-eight (83.6%) respondents indicated significant barriers to sepsis treatment. Senior registrars had higher knowledge scores, while interns scored lowest (F = 3.508, P = 0.009). The mean scores of approaches to sepsis care among cadres were not significant (F = 1.692, P = 0.154). Conclusion: This study revealed that clinicians in a tertiary hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, had inadequate knowledge, especially among lower cadre doctors, and a suboptimal approach to the management of sepsis patients, as well as substantial barriers to their care. There is a need to provide physicians with tailored training on the diagnosis and correct approach to the care of patients with sepsis, as well as provide job aids to help with decision-making in the emergency rooms. Purpose: Open reduction (OR) is usually required in developmental dysplasia of hip (DDH) for children below 24 months of age, those who failed to achieve a satisfactory reduction by the closed method. OR in this age group can be performed either through a medial or anterior approach. However, there is a paucity of literature and a lack of more substantial evidence regarding which approach (medial versus anterior) is superior for performing OR in this age group with minimal complications. Methods: Four databases (PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane Library) were searched for relevant articles reporting outcomes and complication rates of DDH children less than 24 months undergone OR either through medial or anterior approach using pre-defined keywords. Data on avascular necrosis (AVN) rates, further corrective surgery (FCS) rates, and clinical and radiological grading using McKay clinical criteria and Severin radiological criteria were assessed. Meta-analysis was carried out using RevMan (Review Manager 5.4) software. Results: Five comparative studies, having a minimum of two-year follow-up, were included for final analysis. According to the MINORS tool assessment, all five studies were of good to high quality. Of 257 hips, 151 and 106 underwent OR through medial and anterior approaches, respectively. Our meta-analysis showed a statistically significant (p = 0.01) number of AVN cases with the anterior approach compared to the medial approach. The overall random effect showed the odds of having AVN with an anterior approach to be 2.27 (95% CI: 1.18,4.38) times more than the same with a medial approach. Regarding FCS rates, the meta-analysis depicted no significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.63). The two groups had no statistically significant difference regarding clinical and radiological outcomes using McKay and Severin criteria, respectively. Following surgery, improvement in the acetabular index from pre-operative value showed no statistically significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.48). Conclusions: Medial approach is safe and effective for OR of the hip in DDH up to 24 months of age. Our analysis showed that AVN rates are lower with a medial approach than the anterior approach, with similar clinical and radiological outcomes and rates of FCS. The water storage and distribution terminal in a city on the East coast of Saudi Arabia receives very hot potable water from thermal desalination process. The flowrate of water is 800–900 t/h during all seasons with the temperature of water ranging between 44°C–46°C. To lower the temperature of the hot water, cooling towers were installed to cool the water to 38°C and make it suitable for domestic consumption without affecting the water quality. The summer ambient temperatures can reach 47°C during the day with relative humidity up to 45%, while the night time ambient temperatures can exceed 30°C with relative humidity reaching as high as 70%–80%. The cooling towers sometimes fail to achieve the targeted temperature of 38°C during the summer months. This study and evaluation present the findings from one such time period which lasted for several days, when the water could only be cooled to temperatures ranging between 38°C and 40°C. Minimally invasive (MIS) approaches to neurosurgical diseases continue to increase in popularity due to their association with decreased infection risk, shorter recovery time, and improved cosmesis. Cosmesis and lower morbidity are especially important for pediatric patients. The supraorbital keyhole craniotomy (SOKC) is one MIS approach shown to be effective for both neoplastic and vascular pathologies in pediatric patients. However, it is limited data on its use in pediatric trauma patients. Two cases employing SOKC in pediatric trauma patients are presented here along with a systematic review of the literature. We queried PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases from inception to August 2022 using the Boolean search term: (supraorbital OR eyebrow OR transeyebrow OR suprabrow OR superciliary OR supraciliary) AND (craniotomy OR approach OR keyhole OR procedure) AND (pediatric OR children OR child OR young) AND "trauma". Studies that discussed the use of an SOKC in a pediatric patient having sustained trauma to the frontal calvarium and/or anterior fossa/sellar region of the skull base were included. Details were extracted on patient demographics, trauma etiology, endoscope use, and surgical and cosmetic outcomes. We identified 89 unique studies, of which four met inclusion criteria. Thirteen total cases were represented. Age and sex were reported for 12 patients, 25% of whom were male; the mean age was 7.5 years (range: 3–16). Pathologies included acute epidural hematoma (9), orbital roof fracture with dural tear (1), blowout fracture of the medial wall of the frontal sinus with supraorbital rim fracture (1), and compound skull fracture (1). Twelve patients were treated with a conventional operating microscope, while one underwent endoscope-assisted surgery. Only one significant complication (recurrent epidural hematoma) was reported. There were no reported cosmetic complications. The MIS SOKC approach is a reasonable option for select anterior skull base trauma in the pediatric population. This approach has been used previously for successful frontal epidural hematoma evacuation, which is often treated by a large craniotomy. Further study is merited. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The results of the study made it possible to single out those methodological approaches that most closely correspond to the process of managing the educational environment of the professional development of teachers in the institution of general secondary education. Among them are systemic, person-oriented, competence, activity, environmental, cultural, synergistic, acmeological, androgogical, axiological, technological, qualitative and diagnostic. The mentioned approaches do not contradict each other, but, on the contrary, complement each other, which ensures the choice of the tactics of scientific research, which is related to the development of a system of management of the educational environment for the professional development of teachers in an institution of general secondary education. Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic starts abruptly in March 2020 catching almost all countries unprepared. Older adults were one of the most adversely affected individuals. In 2020 EuGMS (European Geriatric Medicine Society) e-congress, a specific session was dedicated to identify and compare the approaches during the first wave of the pandemic among Global European Initiative countries, which include active members from Eastern Europe, South-Eastern Europe, the Balkans and Mediterranean countries. We aimed to outline the management actions across the six countries (i.e., Hungary, Lebanon, Russian Federation, Slovenia, Tunisia and Turkey) involved in the session. We formulated four main questions to outline interest of four areas related to COVID-19 in individual countries: (i) The diagnosis protocol of COVID-19 for older adults, (ii) The hospitalization protocol for older adults with COVID-19, (iii) The governmental and social coping strategies against the pandemic and geriatricians' roles, (iv) Protection for the nursing home residents. The main areas of interest were detailed with standardized sub-questions to have a comparable standardized data between the participant countries. Diagnostic protocols for COVID-19 in older adults showed some differences across European countries; as half of the countries applied the algorithm suggested by World Health Organization, the other half developed their own algorithms. Of note, all countries indicated that the diagnostic procedures, protocols regarding hospitalization and intensive care unit transfer of older adults generally did not differ from young age groups. Although older age was considered as a criteria for admission in half of the countries, geriatric syndromes like frailty and malnutrition were generally overlooked. The common coping strategy against pandemic was to ensure older people stay at home and limit their social contact; by few of countries applying lock-downs only for specific age groups including older adults. Although restrictions and precautions taken in nursing homes were generally similar and mostly worked in protecting residents from COVID-19, some countries have indicated their observation of restrictions causing significant psychosocial negative effects on older adults. Although management of COVID-19 in older individuals seemed to be similar between countries in the whole picture, it seems geriatric perspective still needs to be more active on the scene, to prevent this vulnerable group from once again being exposed to increased psychosocial problems, morbidities and mortalities in a future pandemic. The purpose of this work is to substantiate the approach to assessing the state of organic waste generation by households of a given community, which is based on passive production observations and intellectual analysis of statistical data, which ensures consideration of the factors and features of organic waste generation, as well as the development of qualitative models for forecasting their receipt. To achieve the goal, the following tasks were solved: the analysis of the state of organic waste generation by households in the EU countries was performed; an approach to assessing the state of organic waste generation by households of a given community is proposed; based on the use of the proposed approach, and models for assessing the state of organic waste generation of households in a given community were substantiated. The hypothesis of the study is to substantiate and use an approach to assessing the generation of organic waste by households in individual communities, based on the method of association learning and search for association rules, which will identify factors that have a significant impact on the volume of organic waste generated by households, the consideration of which will improve the accuracy of forecasting models and improve the quality of management of the processes of collection and processing of this waste in communities. The research methodology used allows for the use of data mining, probability theory, mathematical statistics, machine learning technology, and the Associative Rule Learning (ARL) method. Based on the use of a reasonable algorithm, they identify key trends and relationships between the factors of organic waste generation in communities in different countries, which is the basis for creating accurate models for predicting the volume of collection and processing of this waste in communities. The study found that the largest number of households produced organic waste per capita in the range of 0.14–0.25 kg/person. At the same time, most households have from two to four residents and are located on the adjoining territory from 350 m2 to 680 m2. Based on the method of learning associative rules, it was found that there are no close correlations between individual factors that determine the daily volume of organic waste generation by households per capita. The highest correlation coefficient between the type of housing and the income level of household residents is 0.13. The number of residents and the occupied area of the adjacent territory have the greatest impact on the daily volume of organic waste generated by households per capita. The substantiated associative rules of relationships, as well as the diagrams of relationships between factors, have helped to identify those factors that have the greatest impact on the volume of organic waste generation. They are the basis for creating accurate models for predicting the volume of collection and planning the processing of this waste in communities. Based on the proposed approach, Python 3.9 software was developed. It makes it possible to quickly carry out calculations and perform a quantitative assessment of the state of organic waste generation by households of a given community according to the specified rules of association between the volumes of organic waste generation and their factors. The results of the study are the basis for the further development of models for accurate forecasting of the collection and planning of the processing of organic waste from households in communities.
