Globally, attention has majorly been focused on pollution and exhaustion of fossil fuels allied to the conventional energy sources while the non-conventional energy/renewable energy sources have always been considered clean and environmentally friendly. Of the two, the non-conventional (renewable) is being preferred because it is believed to be more environmentally friendly. Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs) especially Solar Photovoltaics have seen many plants being constructed to either supplement the grid or as alternatives for those far from the grid. Solar Photovoltaics plants occupy large tracts of land which would have been used for other economic activities for revenue generation such as agriculture, forestry or tourism in archaeological sites. The negative impacts slow down the application of Solar PV , but a modelling tool that can easily and quantitively assess the impacts in monetary form would accelerate the Solar PV application. The work presents a developed modelling tool that is able to assess not only the techno-economic impacts but also the environmental impacts in monetary form, for one to be able to determine the viability of a plant in a given region. The results are compared with those of HOMER software.

Flexicurity remains an important policy instrument in the EU and will be especiallyimportant in the changing economic and labor market environment, characterized with changing nature of work and development of new forms of work. Purpose. This paper examines the implementation of flexicurity policies in Slovenia and compares them with the EU countries. Design/methodology/approach. As there is no uniform measure of flexicurity, the analysis is structured in accordance with four elements of flexicurity policies, developed within the EU, and suitable indicators: (i) flexibility of contractual relations; (ii) lifelong learning; (iii) active labor market policies; and (iv) social protection system. Analysis uses descriptive statistics for last available years and compares these data with crisis year 2010. Data for international comparisons were obtained from the European Commission, Eurostat and Organization for the Economic Co-operation and Development, Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia and the Employment Service of Slovenia. Findings and iImplications. Slovenia has in the past already performed labor market reforms that relate to flexicurity components, yet there is still room for improvement. These are especially needed in the field of lifelong learning and expenditures for active labor market policies, where Slovenia is at the tail of the EU countries. In the front of flexibility, a significant decline in the employment protection was noticed with the last legislative change in 2013, which aimed at reducing segmentation and increasing labor market flexibility. In the front of social protection, Slovenia is among the EU countries with the most generous social systems, which, on the other hand, create high work disincentives. Limitations. This study focuses only on the presentation of the recent indicators of flexicurity components, which is one of its major limitation. Future research should study in more detail the effects of flexicurity on labor market, reconsider the importance of flexicurity in assuring decent work and develop a more comprehensible measure of flexicurity. Originality. The paper adds to the existing literature on Slovenia by giving an overview of recent developments of flexicurity concept, pointing on the areas that require policy response.

Wind energy conversion systems have become a key technology to harvest wind energy worldwide. In permanent magnet synchronous generator-based wind turbine systems, the rotor position is needed for variable speed control and it uses an encoder or a speed sensor. However, these sensors lead to some obstacles, such as additional weight and cost, increased noise, complexity and reliability issues. For these reasons, the development of new sensorless control methods has become critically important for wind turbine generators. This paper aims to develop a new sensorless and adaptive control method for a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous generator. The proposed method includes a new model reference adaptive system, which is used to estimate the rotor position and speed as an observer. Adaptive control is implemented in the pulse-width modulated current source converter. In the conventional model reference adaptive system, the proportional-integral controller is used in the adaptation mechanism. Moreover, the proportional-integral controller is generally tuned by the trial and error method, which is tedious and inaccurate. In contrast, the proposed method is based on model predictive control which eliminates the use of speed and position sensors and also improves the performance of model reference adaptive control systems. In this paper, the proposed predictive controller is modelled in MATLAB/SIMULINK and validated experimentally on a 6-kW wind turbine generator. Test results prove the effectiveness of the control strategy in terms of energy efficiency and dynamical adaptation to the wind turbine operational conditions. The experimental results also show that the control method has good dynamic response to parameter variations and external disturbances. Therefore, the developed technique will help increase the uptake of permanent magnet synchronous generators and model predictive control methods in the wind power industry.

We initiated this series with a view to catalyse and extend the focus on conceptualisation and application of behavioural science methods for managing innovation, albeit from a whole human perspective. We started with the notion that how to increase individual (human) creativity, collaboration productivity and innovativeness in innovation projects is a common concern for most firms. After discussions on the brain-mind-behaviour triad in the beginning, the interim editorial highlighted behavioural experiments as one plausible method to further the science of managing for innovation. In this final piece on the series, we conclude with a caveat on using experimental methods in examining the human side of innovation (Salampasis and Mention 2017) and discuss avenues for future research in innovation management, which increasingly reflects a collaborative affair (Bogers et al., 2017; Heil and Bornemann 2018). Challenge Based Innovation (CBI) is a university programme where student teams create innovative design projects in collaboration with CERN. Each university participating in CBI creates its version of the program. Thus, this is not a closed program, but open to different curricula, periods and student backgrounds. Despite the impact on the participants and potential of the program, it is not as internationally recognised as it could be. This paper presents results of an experimental project that rebrands and redesigns the graphic identity of CBI in order to increase its recognition, better communicate its goals and project outcomes. The process involved an understanding of the problem, provided by interviews with the main stakeholders, along with the identity development attained through brainstorming, sketching, experimental prototyping and iterating. Innovation is seen as a crucial factor to drive businesses to grow, stand out and to meet customer needs. However, most research on open innovation focuses on commercial businesses. Here, we study how research institutes, specifically CERN, establish innovation as their driving force, primarily through internal and external openness. To explore how interdisciplinary collaboration and open innovation is perceived by CERN’s constituents, mixed-form interviews have been conducted. A majority is found to be in favour of interdisciplinary collaboration, and acknowledges the impact of open innovation. This study assessed resources capability of government co-operative supporting organizations (GCSOs) in innovations dissemination to primary co-operative societies (PCSos) in Tanzania. Case study research design using multiple cases was used involving five cases. Primary data were collected using key informant interviews, focus groups discussions, documentary reviews and personal observations. Data were analyzed using content analysis. Findings indicate that, most GCSOs in Tanzania were poor in terms of resources to disseminate innovations to PCSos. Most GCSOs were also not determined at prioritizing and utilizing available resources for dissemination of innovations to PCSos. Further, some external factors e.g. inadequate government resources commitment, employment freezing and others have been adversely affecting GCSOs resources capability to disseminate innovations to PCSos. Moreover, there were no formal and comprehensive incentive systems to reward innovation dissemination activities in most of the GCSOs. It is recommended that GCSOs should mobilize more internal resources and ensure sufficient innovation resources prioritization and utilization to adequately facilitate innovations dissemination to PCSos. The GCSOs should also establish clear incentive systems to reward innovation dissemination activities.

Di Indonesia khususnya di Provinsi DKI Jakarta sampai saat ini Demam Berdarah Dengue masih merupakan masalah kesehatan masyarakat yang utama. Meski sudah ada beberapa langkah untuk mengatasi penyebaran penyakit Demam Berdarah Dengue (DBD), namun harus ada metode analisis untuk melakukan peramalan terhadap kasus DBD menggunakan serangkaian data yang ada, dan memperkirakan nilai data dimasa yang akan datang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat model forecasting peningkatan jumlah kasus Demam Berdarah Dengue menggunakan algoritma regresi linear dan melakukan analisis pengaruh dari temperatur, kelembapan dan curah hujan dalam kanaikan kasus penyakit Demam Berdarah Dengue di Provinsi DKI Jakarta dari model regresi yang dibuat. Data DBD yang digunakkan merupakan dataset pemantauan penyakit endemik yang diperoleh dari Dinas Kesehatan DKI Jakarta sedangkan data cuaca merupakan dataset yang didapat dari Dinas Lingkungan Hidup DKI Jakarta. Dari model regresi yang dibuat diperoleh nilai R2 sebesar 0.3622, hal tersebut menunjukan presentase pengaruh variabel predictor terhadap kasus demam berdarah sebesar 36.22%, sedangkan 63.78% dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain diluar variabel independen tersebut.Setelah melakukan uji simultan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa temperatur, kelambapan, dan curah hujan secara bersama-sama berpengaruh terhadap kenaikan jumlah kasus demam berdarah di Provinsi DKI Jakarta. Selanjutnya uji parsial membuktikan bahwa, kelembapan dan curah hujan memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap kenaikan kasus demam berdarah, sedangkan untuk variabel bebas, temperatur terbukti tidak memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kenaikan kasus demam berdarah dengue di Provinsi DKI Jakarta.Kata kunci: Data Mining, Predictive Mining, Regresi Linier, Demam Berdarah Dengue Abstract[Forecasting Model of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in DKI Jakarta Using Linear Regression Algorithm to Know Trends of Predictor Variable Value for Case Increasing] In Indonesia specifically in DKI Jakarta Province, Dengue fever is still the main public health problem. Although there are already several steps to overcome the spread of Dengue Fever (DHF), there still needs to be an analytical method to forecast the increase dengue cases using and estimated data values in the future. This study aims to make a forecasting model for increasing the number of cases of Dengue Fever using a linear regression algorithm and analyzing the effect of temperature, humidity and rainfall in the case of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in DKI Jakarta Province from a regression model made. The DHF data used is an endemic disease monitoring dataset obtained from the DKI Jakarta Health Office while the weather data is a dataset obtained from the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service. From the regression model made, the value of R2 is 0.3622, it shows the percentage of the influence of temperature, humidity and rainfall on cases of dengue fever is 36.22%, while 63.78% is influenced by other factors outside the independent variable. After conducting a simultaneous test, it can be concluded that temperature, humidity and rainfall together, influence the increase in the number of dengue cases in DKI Jakarta Province. Then the partial test proves that humidity and rainfall have a significant influence on the increase in dengue cases, whereas for temperature independent variables proved that no significant effect on the increase in cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever in DKI Jakarta Province.Keywords: Data Mining, Predictive Mining, Linear Regression, Dengue Fever (DHF)

Penggunaan media sosial semakin hari semakin meningkat. Salah satu media sosial yang popular saat ini adalah Twitter. Menjelang pemilihan Presiden Republik Indonesia semakin banyak tweet yang membahas tentang kegiatan tersebut. Hal ini menyebabkan topik kampanye pemilu memiliki peluang yang baik untuk dilakukan proses analisis sentimen. Saat ini, mayoritas analisis sentimen di Indonesia dilakukan hanya menilai sentimen dari kalimat tanpa mengetahui apa entitas yang ada dalam kalimat. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu melakukan analisis sentimen dengan pendekatan berbasis ontologi. Ontologi digunakan dalam menyaring data yang akan digunakan. Ontologi dalam penelitian ini adalah ekonomi dengan atribut finansial, lapangan kerja, dan kesejahteraan. Proses analisis sentimen dilakukan dengan metode Lexicon-based dan Support Vector Machine (SVM). Proses akuisisi data diperoleh sejumlah 700.000 tweet. Koleksi tersebut diseleksi berdasarkan ontologi ekonomi menghasilkan 16.998 tweet dan dilakukan pelabelan manual sebanyak 1.600. Kemudian dilakukan pengolahan data hingga diperoleh dataset final sejumlah 1.050 tweet. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan akurasi yang diperoleh berdasarkan metode Lexicon-based adalah 39% dan metode SVM sebesar 83%. Dari penelitian ini diketahui bahwa SVM mempunyai performa yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan Lexicon-based. Hasil Lexicon-based menunjukkan bahwa sentimen pada mayoritas atribut berupa netral. Sedangkan hasil SVM menunjukkan bahwa sentimen pada mayoritas atribut (finansial dan kesejahteraan) berupa positif, sisanya (lapangan kerja) berupa netral. Selanjutnya, proses ekstraksi dan pembuatan ontologi Bahasa Indonesia secara semi-otomatis pada dataset perlu untuk dikembangkan pada penelitian berikutnya untuk menyempurnakan ontologi.Kata kunci: Analisis Sentimen, Twitter, Ontology, SVM, Lexicon Abstract[Comparison of the Lexicon-based and SVM Method for Ontology-Based Analysis of the 2019 Presidential Election Campaign on Twitter] The use of social media is increasing. One of the most popular social media is Twitter. Towards the election of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, election topic tweets discussed almost every day. Hence, it is suitable for the sentiment analysis process. Nowadays, the sentiment analysis is only evaluating the sentence without knowing what the entity is in the sentence. To overcome this drawback, we propose a sentiment analysis based on ontology. Ontology is used to filter the data to be used. The ontology used in this study is economics with attributes, i.e., financial employment, and welfare. The sentiment analysis process is carried out using the Lexicon and Support Vector Machine (SVM) based methods. The process of acquiring data obtained 700,000 tweets. The collection was selected based on economic ontology to produce 16,998 tweets, and 1,600 manual labels were labelled. Then, the number of the final dataset is 1,050 tweets. The results show that the accuracy of the Lexicon-based method is 39%, and the SVM method is 83%. The SVM has better performance than Lexicon-based. Lexicon-based results show that the sentiment on the majority attributes is neutral. While the SVM results show that the sentiment on the majority attributes (financial and welfare) is positive, the rest (employment) is neutral. A semi-automatic ontology extraction and development for Bahasa Indonesia is necessary for the future works to make a comprehensive ontology and provide better results. This paper seeks to make a particular contribution in what are the roles of consultancies as key innovation intermediaries in service industry. In line with previous literature, the research purposes to test the application of Pinto et al (2016) framework within service companies, triangulating the findings of Pinto et al (2017). Four in-depth case studies of service companies were developed, resulting on detailed descriptions of the phenomenon using constructs to order the data and relate to earlier literature. Key findings highlight changes in motivations for consultancy engagement, from an initial focus on knowledge (output) to a focus on methodology (process). The adequacy of the framework proposed by Pinto et al (2016) is confirmed, and a new function of intermediaries arises from this study, related with “evaluation of innovation outcomes”. The study highlights the contribution of consultancies in preparing companies to innovate.

This article seeks to address the pressing issue of developing the innovative activity of the domestic economy through the use of the potential of small and medium-sized enterprises, which has to do with the possibility of application of existing experience of the more developed foreign countries in order to achieve economic success. The purpose of this study is to examine the trends in the development of innovative activity of small and medium-sized enterprises in Ukraine, as well as to determine the distribution of the total amount of expenditures by areas of innovation. Analysis of the literature on this issue has shown that the economic development of a country depends on many factors, and the use of intellectual potential is quite a significant factor in modern society. The relevance of this issue is supported by the fact that the majority of developed countries that have high levels of national income and are distinguished by the quality of life of the population are introducing the latest innovative inventions and using them appropriately in: production, agriculture, trade and other fields of activity. The research of the development of innovation activity of small and medium-sized enterprises in the article is carried out in the following logical sequence: analysis of small and medium-sized enterprises in Ukraine, analysis of small and medium-sized enterprises of EU countries, evaluation and comparison of innovation activity of Ukraine and EU countries. The methodical tools of the study included methods of statistical analysis. The study period was 2010-2018. The object of analysis is the process of development of innovation activity of small and medium-sized enterprises, as they are the majority of enterprises in Ukraine. The article presents the results of the analysis of the state of innovation the activity of small and medium-sized enterprises, which showed that our country needs significant transformation in this direction. Studies show that increasing the turnover and the production of small and medium-sized enterprises depends on the level of innovative development. The results of the study may be useful for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Introduction - the purpose of the article is to determine the theoretical and legislative bases for the definition and construction of the national innovation system and its subsystems, to establish gaps in the regulatory legal regulation of the economic activity of individual elements - subjects of the NIS. Methods of research - structural and functional methods of analysis are used to determine the existing competence of the participants of the national innovation system of Ukraine and the ability to perform the necessary functions for the system. Methods of analysis and synthesis were used in the study of theoretical models of innovative systems and their structure. The normativist method (formal and legal) was used in the study of the actual state of legislative securing of the NIS. Results of the research - Based on the analyzed scientific sources and on the basis of regulatory acts of Ukraine, it is necessary to distinguish the following NIS subsystems, which require significant legislative regulation: subsystem of generation of knowledge and education, subsystem of production of products and services, subsystem of innovative infrastructure,subsystem «National network technology transfer», Territorial (regional) subsystems. Discussion with the otherscientists- most views on the essence of a NIS can be divided into the following groups: structural approach, subsystem approach, functional and structural. However, these models do not sufficiently address the role of the lowest level of the administrative system - the united territorial communities as the only one as close as possible to the governmental structure. In this direction, it is necessary to extend the limits of financial capacity of territorial communities on the principles of transparency, accessibility, sufficiency. Summary and conclusions - for the harmonious and timely development of the National Innovation System it is necessary to comprehensively approach the legislative regulation of relations in the innovation system and its subsystems, as well asto formulate guidelines for the formation of the system of regulation of innovative activity in the laws.

The innovation management literature describes a competitive advantage when applying Design Thinking (DT) in corporate environments. In this paper we study the perceived challenges, enablers, and benefits for implementing DT in publicly funded transdisciplinary industry-academia research and innovation consortia (RIC). We facilitate and investigate five large RIC from the food and high-tech industry in Norway and Germany using an explorative qualitative action research design. Our research shows that the challenges of using DT in RIC are to some extent comparable to those for the corporate context. Additionally, we identify distinct challenges for RIC. Benefits from using DT in RIC are stronger user and innovation focus, better transdisciplinary collaboration, and triangulation of qualitative with scientific data. We suggest that complex RIC benefit from an intermediary (DT) role translating business needs into research questions, and research results into understandable and business-relevant information and innovation.

The article is devoted to the study of spatial forms of organizing innovative infrastructure of Ukraine in terms of sustainable development. In the course of the study, modern trends of innovative development of the regions in Ukraine are highlighted. The peculiarities of implementing innovative policy in the context of smart specialization strategy are analyzed. Diagnostics of processes of formation and development of innovative infrastructure in regions of Ukraine is carried out. A conceptual approach to assessing the level of innovation infrastructure development is proposed.

The article is devoted to the topic of Ukraine’s readiness for innovations in industry 4.0. The article also discusses the concept of the 4th industrial revolution. The proposed methodology for assessing readiness for innovations is based on the annual ranking of The Global Innovation Index of Cornell University, the French Business School and Research Institute (INSEAD), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and official EU statistics. An analysis was carried out of Ukraine’s readiness for innovation in comparison with EU countries in the area of "The Conditions for Creating Innovative Potential, Level of Innovation Potential, Conditions for Realization of Innovative Potential, Realization of Innovative Potential". A cluster analysis of countries regarding the level of preparedness for innovation based on the indicators was also made. The strengths and weaknesses of Ukraine as an innovative country are highlighted, practical recommendations are also given for improving the level of innovative development in the country.

Taking into account the oil resources depletion the requirements to fuel consumption of internal combustion engines are now increasing as well as to their reliability and durability. With the continual increase in the number of internal combustion engines in operation, along with the problem of parts of the cylinder piston group wearing out has caused exhaust from such engines to be one of the main source of harmful pollutant emissions in cities. Therefore, environmental requirements have in turn increased dramatically. The engine resource and its efficiency largely depend on the process of fuel combustion in the combustion chamber. Experimental studies aimed to improve the working process on diesel engines by piston insulation have shown an effective decrease in fuel consumption by reducing heat loss and more complete fuel combustion. When oxide ceramic coatings were used on the piston and cylinder head, the maximum power increased and the specific fuel consumption decreased. However ceramic coatings are not widely used due to their peeling. We have developed a technology for the galvanic plasma treatment of pistons, which made it possible to obtain on the pistons surface made of aluminum alloys a ceramic corundum layer with high adhesion to the base metal that does not peel and has electret properties. In 1993, pistons with a corundum surface layer were installed in a shunting diesel locomotive and life-time running tests were conducted. Such pistons increased wear resistance, reduced the wear of cylinder liners, increased the strength of the annular jumpers, and were not prone to burnouts and scuffing. They provided an increase in the resource of the cylinder-piston group of the diesel engine by more than 125 thousand engine hours. The paper provides an analysis of the effect of corundum pistons thermal insulation on significant increasing the, engine power and fuel consumption reduction. Basing on experimental bench studies of a gasoline engine, a tractor diesel engine and long-term operational life tests of diesel engines, an attempt had been made to explain the reasons for the improvement in the engines’ efficiency.

The article analyses the types of waste generated in economy and the possibilities of their management, on the example of Poland. The main focus was on using selected types of waste for methane production. The impact of the decomposing mass of organic waste on the production of greenhouse gases was examined and various types of biogas plants operating in Poland were presented (biogas plants at landfills, biogas plants at sewage treatment plants, agricultural biogas plants). The article also presents the benefits for the economy from the use of methane from methane drainage. Unfortunately, in Poland, methane resources are used to a small extent. In the case of mines, landfills or sewage treatment plants it is related to high costs of constructing methane capture installations, which are not offset by revenues from sales of gas and green certificates. Although much more favourable blue certificates have been introduced for agricultural biogas plants, the obstacle standing in the way of their progress is the lack of local spatial development plans for the places designated for their construction

Agriculture is a risky industry because forces beyond human control influence the quality and profitability of their activities. Farmers' incomes reveal high volatility due to product and crop price as well as catastrophic risks such as natural disasters and diseases. The following paper discusses different methods, also those not specific to EMS, and their exemplary application. An attempt has been made to answer the question of what methods of risk analysis and management are appropriate for agriculture. The goal is to identify methods which can be used in EMS for agriculture, especially in the family farmsteads. The paper is based on the latest, third edition of ISO 14001

In the process of managing participation in fairs, a long-term vision, taking into account a number of non-financial dimensions of the assessment, makes it more complex and risky and, consequently it requires more attention. The article presents the parameters of the process of managing participation in fairs by the exhibitors studied, analyses the relationships between them and identifies key risk factors in trade fairs activity of exhibitors. The article describes the respondents' behaviours in the studied area and highlights the importance of non-financial elements determining the readiness of exhibitors to participate in the fair. The decisions to participate in fairs are more and more often made based, for example, on the assessment of cooperation with organizers. The possibility of achieving non-sales goals during the event is also becoming more and more important, even if the company has difficulty assessing the degree of their implementation.

The concept of occupational health and safety is not defined in Polish law. The only place where such a definition can be found is PN-N-1801:2004. Nevertheless, according to the Act on standardisation, the application of Polish Standards is voluntary. Activities in the field of occupational health and safety should be an integral part of business management. Companies from countries which are members of the European Union, in accordance with Directive 89/391/EEC, are obliged to implement standards related to occupational health and safety. The most commonly used and recognised standard for occupational health and safety management systems, in line with the specifics of each company, is the OHSAS 18001 international management system, while in Poland it is the PN-N-18001 standard. The study examined the scope of OHS at work among Research and Innovation Centre Pro-Akademia employees. The employees were subjected to surveys. The results obtained show that employees appreciate the importance of OHS regulations, but they do not always consciously comply with them. One of the tools that enabled author to prepare this article is analytic method called desk research. Desk Research is a research method that boils down to analyzing the records of available data sources, including in particular their compilation, mutual verification and processing. Such analysis is the basis for drawing conclusions about the examined problem. For example - the effect of the Desk Research analysis proceeded as part of the labor market survey is the diagnosis of the state of the labor market in the studied area, the characteristics of all its component groups as well as a description and verification of the actions taken by the institutions operating within it.

The common approaches to innovation deployed by many corporations are ineffective and associated with a collection of well defined risks including hype driven and biased decision making, risk aversion, and disruption. In contrast, open innovation programs reduce these same risks and deliver a variety of substantial benefits ranging from increased innovation speed, reduced costs, and increased probability of success.

This study explores the relationships among the use of different types of humor (affiliative, aggressive, reframing, and coping humor)—both among immediate co-workers (“ingroup”), and with actors external to the firm (“outgroup”), international competitiveness, as well as innovativeness. An exploratory study based on survey data suggests that humor, when connections exist, is negatively related to international competitive potential and performance. Whether or not these negative effects emerge, depends on with whom and which type of humor is used. However, the situation is not straightforward: innovativeness is positively related to international competitiveness, and to innovativeness, humor types relate in different ways, some positive, some negative. Overall, humor seems to play a relevant, but challenging-to-manage role especially in settings where borders—organizational or national—are crossed: Humor that works as a lubricant for innovation processes, does not necessarily work directly in advancing international competitiveness.

This paper presents the modifications that have been made to the sickle insert of the gear pump with internal gearing. This procedure allowed the obtainment of radial compensation. The test stand to plot the characteristics of the pump before, as well as after the first and second modification is discussed. The results of the measurements from the tests conducted are presented. The results obtained confirmed the achievement of radial compensation by cutting the appropriate channel in the sickle insert. As a result, it will be possible to obtain a higher discharge pressure for this type of pump and to increase its efficiency.

Today’s construction market of materials, contractors and building users, places new demands on individual building materials. Undoubtedly one such material is concrete, which is used in almost all construction projects as a binder for building materials. Therefore, it is necessary that this material is constantly subjected to new tests to find ways to improve its properties. Therefore, many scientists attempt to improve properties such as compressive strength, flexural strength and water resistance. One method is to modify the cement matrix with polymers.

Nano- and biotechnologies are the key elements of the complex of NBIC-technologies, developed within the concept of continuous growth of innovations in the context of the transition to the sixth technological mode. The purpose of the article is to study the prospects for the development of nano- and biotechnologies in various sectors of the economy, as well as explore opportunities for accelerating the commercialization of research results in these areas. The article’s relevance is confirmed by the strengthening of the role of nano- and biotechnologies in the sphere of innovation development of countries worldwide. The results of the study have shown that the nanotechnology market has a divergent structure, and the basic characteristic of nanoproducts is their interdisciplinary nature. The world leaders in the production and commercialization of nanotechnologies are the United States, China, Japan, Germany and South Korea. Biotechnologies are developing rapidly as well. Worldwide, the largest number of biotechnologies is created in areas such as health care (biomedicine and biopharmaceuticals), industry and agriculture. The leading countries in the field of development and commercialization of biotechnologies are the United States, France, Germany and South Korea.

The paper shows the results of research aimed to assess the impact of high squeeze pressure on the porosity of AlZn5Mg alloy castings, including its distribution in slab-type castings with dimensions of 25 x 100 x 200 mm. The research was carried out on castings made by two methods: squeeze casting and gravity casting. The pressing was conducted at a pressure of 100 MPa at an initial mould temperature of 200°C. The research identified the middle and outer parts of the casting. Experimental research was preceded by numerical simulation of the casting solidification, then a porosity assessment was carried out using the hydrostatic weighing method, which was supplemented by structural observations. The results of the research showed a two-fold decrease in the porosity in the middle part of the casting which is most exposed to the occurrence of shrinkage voids formed in the final clotting phase. Structural tests revealed the occurrence of dispersed porosity in castings, mainly of shrinkage and / or shrinkage-gas origin. The impact of pressure of 100 MPa during solidification caused fragmentation of the primary structure of castings, which resulted in a higher grain density.

The article considers the current issues of stimulating innovation in the energy sector and rational use of energy resources. A three-level system of problem-oriented management of human resources for stimulating innovation in the energy sector is proposed. The system considers the impact of the human factor on innovative development at the national, regional and enterprise levels. Also, the need to encourage enterprises to hire highly qualified specialists in the sphere of energy saving and energy efficiency is proven. The role of the tax policy in state regulation of the rational use of energy resources and stimulation of innovation in the energy sector is substantiated. The tax incentives for the rational use of energy resources applied in the world practice are grouped. Features of the application of tax incentives (accelerated depreciation, tax credits, tax holidays, and tax reduction) for energy efficiency and energy saving of households and business entities are analyzed. Directions for stimulating innovation in the energy sector for the efficient use of energy resources are offered.

As many programs of scientific and technical cooperation of various fields are being successfully implemented between Ukraine and the EU, the author has set the goal of intensifying relations between Ukraine and Chile in the field of green energy. The cooperation Ukraine has had with the EU serves as an example of future cooperation between Ukraine and Chile. The text explores Chile’s experience in the field of green energy and, through the comparative example of such cooperation between Ukraine and the EU countries, shows that such interaction is a worthwhile endeavor. Based on an analysis of research materials, one of the priority areas of scientific and technical cooperation is the use of non-traditional renewable energy technologies. In Ukraine, and the EU, as well as Chile, there are objective factors (natural, resources, socio-economic, environmental- technological) that concern their development. It is interesting to note Ukraine’s scientific experience and implementation of these technologies and the organizational and economic support of them as priorities in the context of national and regional policy. All aspects of international scientific and technical cooperation, including through the exchange of intellectual products, make it possible to increase the effectiveness of forms of state support, the innovation, production and business activities of Ukraine and the corresponding development of producers and consumers' motivation towards using non-conventional forms of renewable energy technology.

Purpose: Most organizations seek for innovative solutions to address tabulate changes and competition. However, each organization is required for rapid and effective processes of assimilating technological innovation into its operational activities. Consistent with previous studies, the aim of this study was to understand whether an organization characterized as CAS (Complex Adaptive System) could positively affect the process of assimilating technological innovation through supporting the development of knowledge workers. Such workers deal mostly with changes. Hence, they possess the ability to combine personal benefits with organizational goals, they are sensible to changes in the environment, they understand the integration of information required for such a process, and they need the ability to socialize among themselves. Design/methodology/approach: A sample of 300 employees in organizations of different sectors responded to an online questionnaire, which examined their attitude towards technological innovation in correlation with the level of organization's CAS characteristics. Pearson and regression analyses were used to examine the relationships between the functioning of the workers as CAS fractals[1] and their attitudes toward the process of assimilation of technological innovation. Findings: Workers who function as “fractals”, namely as knowledge-worker in organizations having the characteristics of CAS, were able to combine personal benefits with organizational goals. They had sensitivity to changes in the environment, integration of the information required for the process and the ability to socialize among themselves. These abilities of knowledge workers have significantly influenced the development of positive attitudes towards the process of assimilation of technological innovation, a better understanding of the technology and the advantages they gain from it, which make them ready to be involved in the process. Practical implications: The practical contribution of this study is the ability to best portray the characteristics of an optimal work environment in an organization that wishes to undergo assimilation processes, technological innovation, management and dissemination of relevant knowledge for the organization's use. Such an organization is required to provide its employees with a degree of operational autonomy enabling them to interweave personal interests and organizational goals, and to be involved and to influence the processes of assimilating technological innovation in the organization. The organization should also maintain a high level of updating, transparency, and transfer of knowledge from outside into the organization. In addition, investment in information systems for the information integration provides the employees with the possibility of social networking during their work.

The dissolution of MnO2 from tantalum capacitor scrap using organic acids in various process conditions was studied. The initial materials were of two types: LTC (leaded tantalum capacitors) and SMDTC (surface-mounted device tantalum capacitors). The research materials were prepared by pyrolysis, grinding and sieving and the preparation processes were characterized. Dissolution of MnO2 was carried out with the use of sulfuric acid solutions with the addition of acetic, ascorbic, citric and oxalic organic acids. Results show that the addition of organic acids significantly improves dissolution yields (72-94 vs 90-99 % for H2SO4 and acid mixtures, respectively). In practice, a concentration of organic acid above 1 M results in the complete removal of MnO2.

In past decades the usage of plastic has seen a tremendous increment. This raise is mainly caused by industrial development and by the spread of this material in every aspect of people life, from food package to aerospace application. For sure plastic has a key role in society and it is not possible to erase, nevertheless its overuse has a serious impact on the environment as well know. In particular, just a few percentage of the total amount of plastic is recycled, the rest has to be landfilled or burnt causing serious pollution side effect. This poor circularity in plastic value chain is mainly caused by difficulties in sorting processes and expensiveness of recycling. By the way a great part of plastic applications could be avoided without implying a reduction in life quality for the people. In addition, a better education in plastic objects shopping and plastic waste management could decrease the difficulties in sorting and recycling. One of the crucial reason why these applications and incorrect behaviour are still present is that the information on alternatives are not present or very hard to be found. In the present paper a novel platform to enhance a more plastic-free life is presented. First a detailed description of the problem is stated, then the process to achieve the proposed solution is described. Social Innovation labs present an unorthodox and varied typology, but one common denominator among them is the goal to create complex inter-organizational collaborations in order to tackle complex problems. These labs are systemic, experimental and social in nature. They utilise methodologies already discussed in the collaboration theory literature, adapting them to the context of innovation. We argue that social Innovation labs create safe spaces to innovate by using a framework composed of time, techniques and tools, which we refer to as the three T’s framework. This paper aims to understand about how uncertainty emerges in the innovation process. Since uncertainty is embedded in the innovation process, to understand how uncertainty emerges in the process one needs to understand how innovation process unfolds over time. Since an innovation process involves various resource recombination activities occurring in several phases, to understand how innovation process unfolds one needs understand “how do various resource recombination activities occur over time for the creation of novelty?” This knowledge would enable us to understand the conditions under which vital activities of resource recombination can/cannot be undertaken and coordinated as well as would allow us to understand the underlying decisions made by the innovators for their efficient undertaking and coordination. This paper investigates the innovation process in two companies through performing qualitative study. The innovation processes are analysed in the light of a conceptual model developed based on the Dubois’ (1994) End-product related activity structure model, Håkansson’s (1987) “ARA model” and Goldratt’s (1997) “Critical chain concept”. The findings suggest that uncertainty emerges in the innovation process in a cycle of interaction with resource void, activity void and actors’ limited cognition due to lack of knowledge, undue optimism, and rationally justified reason for disregarding information. Accordingly, a great deal of compromises is made while undertaking the activities.

Many firms from diverse sectors increasingly use artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen their efficiency by replacing human work. However, many of these advanced automation procedures will become standard tools in the future, and their relatively isolated application will not enable companies to gain a competitive advantage. Drawing on the distinction of data, information, knowledge and intelligence or wisdom, this paper suggests an intelligence-based view of firm performance as an extension of the knowledge-based view and the resource-based view. An intelligence-based perspective underscores the need to integrate AI applications with specific human expertise to complicate imitation by competitors. To sustain a competitive advantage over time, companies further need to develop a meta-intelligence to dynamically renew and recombine their intelligence architecture with multiple types of human and artificial intelligence. An intelligence-based view provides a systematic framework for assessing a firm’s possibilities to profit from AI by generating growth and innovation beyond optimization and efficiency.

It has been recognized that innovation drives the long-run economic growth of nations and increasingly governments are placing innovation at the center of their economic growth strategies. International variation in the investment on innovation presents an opportunity to examine key enablers of innovation-driving policy choices. Countries find themselves at different stages of economic development and innovation performance and so their relative levels of innovation inputs and outputs are likely to be different. In this study we employ a systems of innovation approach to examine what enables improvements in innovation potential among developed countries. Using data from the 2017 Global Innovation Index (GII) Report, we subjected 770 data measures to an analysis of 242 relationships involving changes in the GII’s innovation inputs/outputs scores and overall innovation potential of 35 OECD countries over a five year period (2012 to 2016). Our findings suggest that instituting policies that improve access to open and competitive markets is the most significant enabler for raising a developed country’s innovation potential.

This article aims to provide a conceptual framework for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to evaluate the appropriation of blockchain technology for their business needs and challenges. This conceptual framework aims to respond to the problem of increasing speculations surrounding the blockchain that is considered to be an absolute and innovative solution to many business-related problems. However, this argument might not be realistic for SMEs despite this assumption. The main argument of the article is that SMEs should be skeptical while evaluating the appropriation of this technology for their business needs and they should follow a tailored approach whilst adopting it. Otherwise, the likelihood is high that a short-term and unstructured knowledge management process to adopt blockchain will end up with a waste of resources. The present paper conceptualizes an appropriation framework within nine factors namely, reduction of costs, internalization, digital representation of assets, unalterable data recording, network size, transparent and synchronized ledger, scalability, fair trade, and financing. Given the field’s infancy state of development, the paper relies on a qualitative document analysis involving SME literature and extant literature and white papers of blockchain applications.

In the last decade, design thinking has been discussed as a new paradigm for dealing with complex business problems. The implementation of design thinking is linked with substantial changes in the organizational culture, and becomes visible in new approaches to designing office and learning spaces. To analyze proponents’ perspectives on the implementation process, we adapted Schein’s (1990, 2017) approach of different layers of an organizational culture. In general, two layers in an organization are addressed, namely visible artifacts and behaviors, as well as basic principles to think about approaches to deal with business problems (mindset). In total, eight semi-structured expert interviews were conducted with proponents to learn more about the implementation of design thinking and the architecture of related office spaces. The findings suggest that design thinking addresses both aspects—the provision and inner design of physical space as well as a change of mindset.

Worldwide wine production has a great cultural and economic importance. A multidisciplinary approach is necessary to improve wine quality. The First Science & Wine World Congress was planned to be a discussion forum considering the wide wine research spectrum. The idea attracted more than 100 attendees most of which scientists. Wine sector professionals missed the call, which emphasize the necessity of implementing strategies to approach those to the academy. Among the topics discussed, the effects of wine in health was pointed out as a priority. Global forums are a good approach to discuss wine in a holist mode.

Peminatan studi pada STMIK Amik Riau merupakan pilihan minat berdasarkan kemampuan khusus dan ketertarikan mahasiswa. Program studi Teknik Informatika STMIK Amik Riau memiliki dua bidang peminatan, yaitu bisnis dan jaringan. Peminatan disesuaikan dengan kemampuan dan ketertarikan dari mahasiswa serta harus dipilih dengan baik dan tepat. Pengambilan peminatan sangat berpengaruh terhadap tugas akhir dan tingkat kelulusan mahasiswa. Pemilihan peminatan studi oleh mahasiswa saat ini hanya mengikuti teman dan tidak berdasarkan kemampuan, sehingga sebuah Sistem klasifikasi peminatan merupakan salah satu solusi untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan pemilihan peminatan pada program studi karena dianggap mampu memberikan rekomendasi pemintan yang baik dan tepat. Algoritma K-Nearest Neighbor (K-NN) merupakan algoritma klasifikasi yang dapat digunakan sebagai solusi dalam pengelompokan data. Pada penelitian ini data yang digunakan diperoleh dari nilai mata kuliah prasyarat selama semester satu hingga semester lima. Data diolah dengan membangun aplikasi yang menerapkan algoritma K-NN menggunakan PHP dan MySQL. Hasil keluaran sistem memiliki akurasi 100% dibandingkan hasil perhitungan manual menggunakan Ms. Excel. Pengujian menggunakan tools RapidMiner untuk mengukur performa algoritma. Hasil pengujian yang dilakukan terhadap 183 data latih dan 100 data uji menyatakan algoritma K-NN memiliki performa dengan hasil Acuracy, Recall, Precision, F Measure, dan Clasificassion Error dengan nilai 98%, 100%, 100%, 91.67%, dan 2%. Informatics Engineering Program at STMIK Amik Riau has two subjects of interest, namely business and networking. The study concentration is tailored to the abilities and interests of students and must be chosen properly and correctly because it is very influential on the final assignment and graduation level of students. The classification system of interest is one of the solutions to solve the problem of choosing a concentration in the study program because it is considered capable of providing good and appropriate spinning recommendations. K-Nearest Neighbor (K-NN) is one of classification algorithm that can be used as a solution in classifying data. In this study, the data used was obtained from the value of prerequisite courses during semester one to semester five. Data is processed by building applications that implement the K-NN algorithm using PHP and MySQL. The output of the system has 100% accuracy compared to the results of manual calculations using Microsoft Excel. The Testing process used RapidMiner software to measure algorithm performance. The results of the tests carried out on 183 training data and 100 test data stated that the K-NN algorithm had a performance with the results of Accuracy, Recall, Precision, Measure, and Classification Error with values of 98%, 100%, 100%, 91.67%, and 2 %. This study can provide a system that can help to give some study concentration recommendations to the student of Informatics Engineering Program at STMIK Amik Riau.Keywords: Study Interest, Classification, K-Nearest Neighbor (K-NN) Algorithm

The aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility of substituting sugar in crust pastry with natural substitutes, such as stevia, xylitol, coconut sugar as well as dried banana. Furthermore, a comparison of physicochemical properties was carried out. The crust pastry obtained was analyzed in terms of color by CIEL*a*b*, textures, water activity, bake loss, semi-consumer assessments and the nutritional value was calculated. There was a clear impact caused by the sugar substitute on the physicochemical properties and their sensory assessment. The cakes with xylitol had the closest color, smell and taste to the control sample (with sucrose). The cakes with dried banana had a significantly reduced hardness compared to the control sample. The lowest bake loss was observed in the case of pastry with dried banana, while the highest was in the case of xylitol. In sensory analysis, the “Just-about-right” method was used, and pastries with a sweter taste were more desirable (xylitol) and pastry with the stevia substitute showed the lowest desirability. The lowest energy value per 100 g was obtained for stevia (392 kcal/ 100g), while for xylitol energy, the value was reduced by 6%.

The long-term use of plant protection products in agriculture, including pentachlorophenol (PCP), has contributed to their widespread distribution in the natural environment. So far, no cheap and effective techniques for removing chlorophenols by physicochemical or biological methods have been developed. Therefore, alternative methods of neutralizing them are currently being sought. The aim of the study was to investigate the possibility of pentachlorophenol decomposition by high temperature thermohydrolysis. The decomposition process was carried out at a constant pressure of 25 MPa, in the temperature range of 20°C to 500°C and at various volumetric flows of PCP through the reactor. Detailed analysis of the results showed that the process and degree of pentachlorophenol reduction depended on residence time in the reactor and the process temperature. The obtained results indicate that thermohydrolysis in supercritical water is not an effective method to neutralize pentachlorophenol. The high costs of conducting this process together with an average degree of PCP conversion (the conversion of pentachlorophenol at the lowest volumetric flow rate through the reactor reached about 45%) cause that thermohydrolysis at high temperature is not a costeffective method of neutralizing pentachlorophenol.

In recent years, research of antitumor activity of natural compounds isolated from plant material has increased. Polyphenols have gained significant attention due to their proapoptotic abilities and their involvement in migration and inhibition of metastasis processes. The anticancer effects of polyphenolic extracts of Viburnum opulus fruit against human breast (MCF-7) and cervical (HeLa) cancer cell lines have been confirmed in this study. It was demonstrated that the tested preparations (methanol – M and acetone – A from pomace, juice – J and juice after extraction to the solid phase SPE – PF) show cytotoxic activity and regulate the migration process of cancer cells. The degree of inhibition of cell migration was measured at two times - 24 h and 48 h after addition of the tested preparations. The highest toxicity towards both cell lines was demonstrated by the polyphenol fraction obtained after juice purification SPE (IC50 values at concentration of 63,541 and 19,380 μg/mL for HeLa and MCF cell lines, respectively). At the same time, the same preparation inhibited cell migration the most (nearly 70% compared to controls at both times at the concertation of 15 and 30 μg/mL). All preparations showed the antioxidant ability, but the Viburnum opulus juice (200 and 350 g/mL) and the preparation after its purification (15 and 30 μg/mL) have larger ability to inhibit the intracellular oxidative stress (30-40%) than preparation obtained from pomace (nearly by 20% at concentration of 20 and 50 μg/mL of M and A). Despite the antioxidative capacity of the preparations, they simultaneously decreased cellular mitochondrial potential. The results obtained indicate the high potential of components of Viburnum opulus polyphenolic compounds can be used in the production of innovative dietary supplements or pharmacological preparations for people with an increased risk or inclination towards developing breast or cervical cancer.

This article deals with the determination of the stages of development of Ukrainian industries with regard to the factors driving innovation. Based on an analysis of literary sources carried out, the most common indicators of the stages of development of industries have been identified, and it is proposed to classify them into structural, volumetric, dynamic, and innovation ones, given the specificity of the relevant statistical data regarding Ukraine. Calculations have shown that most industries are in a declining phase in terms of the majority of volumetric and innovation criteria. In some industries there are positive trends to intensify the innovation activity of businesses, while the chemical and engineering industries, which have the highest level of technological development, are in a decline phase.

After a short introduction characterizing the general outline of the issue, this paper describes the test results of oil leakage measurements through CVT actuator seals. The research was done using Jatco company's CVT 7 model, the popular gearbox for small passenger cars. Several curves of leakage values are given for both actuators, concerning different conditions such as rotational speed, oil temperature or pressure. In the summary several conclusions are formulated, based on presented test results. The determined maximal value of leakage is about 1 l/min. It emerged that the influence of centrifugal force is negligible. What is more, the observed phenomena are shortly described and projected for more detailed investigation.

Correlations between concentrations of selected air pollutants were analyzed in different areas in central Poland from 2012-2016. Three neighboring voivodeships (Lower Silesian, Lodz, and Masovian), were selected for which specific measurement locations were designated in urban and rural areas. The characteristics of the location of monitoring stations allowed to distinguish the following types of measurement stations: “urbantransport”, “urban-background", "suburban-background", "town-background", and "rural-background". Therefore, using the Pearson's linear correlation coefficient, it was possible to analyze the interrelations between the occurrence of air pollution in various types of areas. It was found that the coefficient changed along with the type of area. Moreover, it turned out that the coefficient decreased in each voivodeship along with a decrease in the population density of the analyzed areas. In addition, concentrations of various air pollutants in given areas were compared. Also, it was observed that the strongest correlations occur between the results of calculations from measurement stations located in the same province.

The article aims at summarising the state of the art in the efforts of researchers and innovators to find viable solutions to mitigate the urban heat island (UHI) effect. This effect is loosely connected with the greenhouse effect, however, it certainly creates a severe negative synergy together with it. As green roofs are a well-known answer how to address the UHI effect, the ways how to make their massive and global deployment convenient are discussed. Initially, the differences and similarities between urbanisation in developed and developing countries are described. Then the paper depicts solutions, especially synergic ones, for making the dissemination of green roofs viable, such as rainwater and energy harvesting or urban agriculture. Then the authors conclude that retrofitting the existing roofs is the only method for reaching the desired scale and discuss available business models necessary for introducing the prosumer approach to the retrofitting.

Nowadays, the optimization of energy consumption and resources is one of the most urgent topics in worldwide industry. The energy consumption monitoring and control in various multiphase flow industrial applications, where a proper flow characteristic and an optimal phase mixture control is crucial, is hard to perform due to the physical and chemical complexity of the processes. The Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) is one of the relatively cheap non-invasive measurement methods that can help in the monitoring and control of optimal energy and resources dozing in industrial processes. ECT diagnostics systems use unique sensors that can non-intrusively detect spatial capacitance changes caused by spatial changes in the electrical permittivity of industrial process components. One of the latest ECT extensions is a three-dimensional measurement strategy that uses a multilayer structure of the capacitance sensor. In this paper, the authors propose a novel approach to the 3D ECT sensors fabrication process that uses 3D computer modelling and 3D printing to easily get any sensor shape, electrode layout, scale and shielding strategy. This study compares the measurement abilities of a 3D ECT sensor fabricated using a traditional hand-made technique with the 3D printed device. The results have proven the potential of the new 3D print-based sensor regarding its significant fabrication time reduction as well as the improvement of the overall 3D ECT sensor measurement accuracy and stability.

Considering, as main reference, Donald Schön’s proposal (1983, 1987) on reflective professionals’ training, and on action competencies development adjusted to solving problems in dynamic and uncertain contexts and volatile circumstances, we intend, in this letter, to resume the reflection on system thinking, considering that its singular design, by the non-standard nature that characterizes it, constitutes the foundation of innovation and development processes. Taking into account the difficulties that resistance to change necessarily brings to the training processes, we also reconvene, on the thread of history, the concept of deviation, by means of an epistemic and (multi)referential examination of the importance of divergence, in its contours, contributions and boundaries, as a vital way to refresh and reinvent perceptions, knowledge and meanings. We highlight the possibility of choice within decision-making processes, understanding it not only as a means to escape from mimetic repetition, but also as an outlet to the uncertain, the unpredictable, and the novel. That is, we intend to reflect on the nature of the creative act as poiesis, in its deep and seductive relation with the creator’s emancipation, the ethics underlying a compromise with human values, the aesthetics of adventure, and the appeal of the open work.

There is an extensive literature on characteristics of “entrepreneurial” or “innovative” universities. As both terms have generally been used to refer to the same condition, different rankings of entrepreneurial universities use indicators universally recognized for innovative activity and primarily related to research and knowledge transfer (scholarly production, patents granted and licensed, number of firms created to exploit research results, etc.). Innovation is essentially grounded in an entrepreneurial mentality, but an innovative university (hereafter, IU) is one that transmits this mentality to all of its members, including the foremost among its central missions: education. The IU is a university that becomes a driver of economic and social development in the region in which it is established, seeking to improve society through knowledge. In recent years, various attempts have been made to “measure” this innovative/ entrepreneurial character in a more technical way. In a prior study, we proposed a characterization of an entrepreneurial and innovative university. Here, we build on that study to define the IU. The originality of this proposal stems from its inclusion of the so-called third and fourth missions (knowledge transfer and social responsibility, respectively) as transversal elements implicit in the university’s two central missions. In an IU, therefore, the university’s relationship with and impact on its surrounding agents are essential aspects entwined with its two basic functions.
