53. Molecular engineering of CxNy: Topologies, electronic structures and multidisciplinary applications

As a class of metal-free two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor materials, polymeric carbon nitrides have attracted wide attention recently due to its facile regulation of the molecular and electronic structures, availability in abundance and high stability. According to the different ratios of C and N atoms in the framework, a series of CxNy materials have been successfully synthesized by virtue of various precursors, which further triggers extensive investigations of broad applications ranging from sustainable photocatalytic reactions and highly sensitive optoelectronic biosensing. In view of topological structures on their electronic structures and material properties, the as-reported CxNy could be generally classified into two main categories with three- or six-bond-extending frameworks. Owing to the effective n→π* transition in most CxNy materials, the relative energy level of the lone-pair electrons on N atoms is high, which thus endows the materials with the capability of visible light absorption. Meanwhile, the different repeating units, bridging groups and defect sites of these two kinds of CxNy allow them to effectively drive a diverse of promising applications that require specific electronic, interfacial and geometric properties. This review paper aims to summarize the recent progress in topological structure design and the relevant electronic band structures and striking properties of CxNy materials. In the final part, we also discuss the existing challenges of CxNy and outlook the prospect possibilities.

Fulfilling individual energy and nutrient requirements is of great importance for athletes to support overall health and well-being, training adaptation, recovery and injury prevention. Energy availability is the amount of energy left over and available for bodily functions after the energy expended for training is subtracted from the energy taken in from food. The syndrome of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-s) refers to the multifactorial health and performance consequences of low energy availability. Potential physiological implications of RED-s include impaired metabolic rate, hormonal disruptions, menstrual dysfunction, reduced bone health, immunity, protein synthesis, and cardiovascular health. These can have short and long term consequences on health and sport performance. Causes of RED-s range from unintentional (e.g. lack of awareness or difficulties with meeting high energy requirements) to more intentional behaviors and further to clinical eating disorders. RED-s prevalence appears to differ between sports and sport disciplines, with highest risk in endurance, aesthetic and weight-class sports. This article summarizes current knowledge of RED-s implications for health and performance, and highlights the importance of early diagnosis and screening. Research on RED-s in Icelandic athletes is warranted as it could support development of national guidelines, prevention and treatment protocols.

The $${}^{1}S_{0}$$ neutron–neutron ( $$nn$$ ) scattering length was measured in the neutron–deuteron ( $$nd$$ ) breakup reaction at an energy of 60 MeV. The respective experiment was performed in the geometry of final-state interaction via detecting all three secondary particles. The scattering-length value of $$a_{nn}={-}16.3\pm 0.5$$ fm was determined on the basis of a comparison of the experimental dependence of the $$nd$$ -breakup reaction yield on the relative energy of the $$nn$$ pair with the results of a simulation. An analysis of this scattering-length value, together with data obtained in other experiments devoted to studying $$nd$$ and $$dd$$ breakup, confirms the hypothesis that three-nucleon forces affect the values extracted from data on these reactions for the parameters of the $$nn$$ interaction.

Objetivo: Identificar el comportamiento de la estabilidad de amputados transtibiales y examinar la relación y diferencias entre amputados y no amputados en estabilidad postural estática. El mantenimiento de la posición de bipedestación requiere de control simultáneo de postura en ambas direcciones, antero-posterior (AP) y medial-lateral (ML). Se verificó la dirección del CoP de mayor afectación. Metodología: Nueve individuos con amputación transtibial unilateral y nueve sujetos no amputados del grupo control realizaron una serie de mediciones en posición de bipedestación estática. Las métricas corporales del análisis lineal, como Excursión, Velocidad, Rango y Promedio, y análisis no lineal, como la transformada discreta de wavelet (DWT) y su energía relativa (RWE), se calcularon y compararon entre los grupos. Resultados: La prueba de U Mann-Whitney con significancia de 0.05 se utilizó para comparar las mediciones entre grupos. Las personas no amputadas exhibieron incremento regular en el balanceo postural comparadas con las personas con prótesis, la variación se presentó mayormente en la dirección antero-posterior. La concentración de energía en los niveles fue diferente entre los grupos. Conclusiones: El comportamiento de la estabilidad postural permite conocer el nivel de adaptabilidad de la prótesis; existe diferencia en la variabilidad del desplazamiento y velocidad del CoP entre los grupos; debido a la pérdida de estructuras óseas y musculares, los amputados alteran constantemente la ubicación del CoP como estrategia para mantener la estabilidad, de allí que los niveles de energía se encuentren en rangos mayores a los de no amputados.

58. Implicit MAC scheme for compressible Navier–Stokes equations: low Mach asymptotic error estimates

We investigate the error between any discrete solution of the implicit marker-and-cell (MAC) numerical scheme for compressible Navier–Stokes equations in the low Mach number regime and an exact strong solution of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. The main tool is the relative energy method suggested on the continuous level in Feireisl et al. (2012, Relative entropies, suitable weak solutions, and weak–strong uniqueness for the compressible Navier–Stokes system. J. Math. Fluid Mech., 14, 717–730). Our approach highlights the fact that numerical and mathematical analyses are not two separate fields of mathematics. The result is achieved essentially by exploiting in detail the synergy of analytical and numerical methods. We get an unconditional error estimate in terms of explicitly determined positive powers of the space–time discretization parameters and Mach number in the case of well-prepared initial data and in terms of the boundedness of the error if the initial data are ill prepared. The multiplicative constant in the error estimate depends on a suitable norm of the strong solution but it is independent of the numerical solution itself (and of course, on the discretization parameters and the Mach number). This is the first proof that the MAC scheme is unconditionally and uniformly asymptotically stable in the low Mach number regime.

Pulse-like ground motions are capable of inflicting significant damage to structures. Efficient classification of pulse-like ground motion is of great importance when performing the seismic assessment in near-fault regions. In this study, a new method for identifying the velocity pulses is proposed, based on different trends of two parameters: the short-time energy and the short-time zero crossing rate of a ground motion record. A new pulse indicator, the relative energy zero ratio (REZR), is defined to qualitatively identify pulse-like features. The threshold for pulse-like ground motions is derived and compared with two other identification methods through statistical analysis. The proposed procedure not only shows good accuracy and efficiency when identifying pulse-like ground motions but also exhibits good performance for classifying records with high-frequency noise and discontinuous pulses. The REZR method does not require a waveform formula to express and fit the potential velocity pulses; it is a purely signal-based classification method. Finally, the proposed procedure is used to evaluate the contribution of pulse-like motions to the total input energy of a seismic record, which dramatically increases the seismic damage potential.

The pros and cons of using search algorithms alone in identifying new geometries have been discussed by using the Si2C5H2 elemental composition as an example. Within 30 kcal mol−1 at the CCSD(T)/def2-TZVP//PBE0/def2-TZVP level of theory, the coalescence kick and cuckoo methods postulate merely four isomers (1, 3, 6, and 7) for Si2C5H2 (O. Yanez et. al., Chem. Commun., 2017, 53, 12112). On the contrary, chemical intuition yields fourteen (2, 4, 5, and 8–18) new isomers within the same energy range at the B3LYP/6-311++G(2d,2p) level of theory. Based on the relative energies of the first eleven isomers of Si2C5H2 (1, C2v, 0.00; 2, Cs, 21.39; 3, Cs, 21.95; 4, Cs, 22.76; 5, Cs, 24.74; 6, Cs, 25.34; 7, Cs, 25.64; 8, Cs, 25.79; 9, Cs, 27.20; 10, C2v, 28.59; and 11, C2v, 29.16 kcal mol−1) calculated at the CCSD(T)/cc-pVTZ level of theory, it is evident that the search algorithms had missed at least seven isomers in the same energy range. The relative energy gaps of isomers 12–18 fall in the range of 30–40 kcal mol−1 at the latter level of theory. Consequentially, this scenario triggers a speculation going forward with search algorithms alone in the search of all new isomers. While one cannot underestimate the power of these algorithms, the role of chemical intuition may not be completely neglected. Retrospectively, the fourteen new isomers found by chemical intuition may help in writing better search algorithms. All eighteen isomers – including the most stable isomer with a planar tetracoordinate carbon atom 1 – remain elusive in the laboratory to date. Thus, structural and spectroscopic parameters have been presented here, which may possibly aid the future experimental studies.

Background Young ballet dancers are at risk of health issues associated with altered nutritional status and of relative energy deficiency in sport compared to the general population. Aim To evaluate the nutritional status and body composition in ballet dancers. Materials and methods The study group consisted of 40 young ballet dancers (mean age 19.97 years). Height and weight were measured and body mass index was calculated in all subjects (mean BMI value 19.79 kg/m2, SD: 2.051). Body composition was estimated using the bioelectrical impedance method. Results The dancers’ fat-free mass was 47.33 kg (SD: 5.064) and, on the average, body fat represented the 15.92% (SD: 16.91) of their body weight. Conclusions Ballet dancers, who usually show significantly lower BMI values compared to the general population, also displayed body fat values under the suggested range. Some screening for altered nutritional status should be performed. In addition, education programs should be recommended in young ballet dancers, in order to inform about energy and nutrition requirements for health and training and to prevent malnutrition-related problems.

We present Surface Evolver evaluations of the difference in energy between face-centred cubic (fcc) and hexagonal close-packed (hcp) foams in the usual idealized model, for liquid fractions ranging from the dry to the wet limit. The difference vanishes in both limits, and favours hcp for all intermediate liquid fractions, as has been proven. The maximum relative energy difference is very small, of the order of 10-5. The asymptotic dependence on liquid fraction is non-analytic in both limits: we present explicit expressions in both cases, derived from first principles. They have been obtained from identifying node interactions (dry limit) and contact interactions (wet limit) as the respective sources for energy differences between fcc and hcp. The wet limit is well described by Morse-Witten theory which has proven to be very powerful for the analytic computation of the surface energy of slightly deformed bubbles.

The electronic states of NiSi n−/0/+ (n = 1–3) clusters were studied using the DFT, RASPT2, and DMRG-CASPT2 methods. The DMRG-CASPT2 approach increases the complete active space to 18, 20, and 23 orbitals for NiSi n−/0/+ (n = 1–3) clusters to attain accurate energies. The leading configurations, bond distances, vibrational frequencies, and relative energies of the electronic states of NiSi n−/0/+ (n = 1–3) clusters are presented. The electron detachment energies of the anionic and neutral clusters are determined. The simulation of the Franck-Condon factors for the transition from the anionic to the neutral ground state within the NiSi 3−/0 clusters reveals intense vibrational progressions. Pentacoordinate carbon atoms are theoretically predicted here in a ferrocene dication derivative in both staggered- [Fe(Si2C5H2)2]2+ (1; C2h) and eclipsed-[Fe(Si2C5H2)2]2+ (2; C2v) forms for the first time. Relative energy difference between these two ranges from -40.34 to 2.47 kJ/mol at different levels. The planar tetracoordinate carbon atom in the ligand Si2C5H2 becomes a hypervalent pentacoordinate carbon upon complexation.

Context Female endurance athletes exhibit an increased risk of the female athlete triad (Triad) and relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S). The triad and RED-S are conditions that involve the health and performance consequences of low energy availability. Few authors of studies to date have assessed the knowledge that athletes, coaches, and athletic trainers (ATs) have regarding the Triad or RED-S. Proper education has been shown to be effective in increasing knowledge of sports medicine concerns for athletes, yet no known continuing education programs for the Triad or RED-S exist at collegiate institutions. Objective To assess the knowledge, confidence, and educational impact of identifying, screening, treating, and preventing the Triad or RED-S. Design Cross-sectional study. Setting An evidence-based online survey was developed and administered via Qualtrics. Patients or Other Participants Female collegiate cross-country athletes (n = 275, age = 20 ± 1 years), collegiate cross-country coaches (n = 55, age = 34 ± 9 years), and ATs working with cross-country teams (n = 30, age = 36 ± 11 years). Main Outcome Measure(s) Knowledge, confidence, and educational impact scores were assessed among groups using analysis of variance. Independent t tests were calculated to determine differences in impact scores between people who had or had not received education on the topic. Results Female cross-country athletes' total knowledge, confidence, and educational impact scores (mean scores = 25.00 ± 5.27, 95.42 ± 28.83, and 18.81 ± 7.05, respectively) were different from those of coaches (mean scores = 26.92 ± 5.02, 111.35 ± 24.14, and 22.41 ± 6.33, respectively) and ATs (mean scores = 28.66 ± 4.02, 117.67 ± 22.53, and 23.93 ± 5.69, respectively; P < .05). Conclusions Knowledge, confidence, and educational impact scores regarding Triad or RED-S were lowest in female cross-country athletes and highest in ATs. These findings support the call for education, which should be regarded as the primary tool for increasing knowledge, to improve the prevention and treatment of the Triad or RED-S.

9,9'-Spirobifluorene-based closo-o-carboranyl (SFC1 and SFC2) compounds and their nido-derivatives (nido-SFC1 and nido-SFC2) were prepared and characterized. The two closo-compounds displayed major absorption bands assignable to π-π* transitions involving the spirobifluorene group, as well as weak intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) transitions between the o-carboranes and their spirobifluorene moieties. The nido-compounds exhibited slightly blueshifted absorption bands resulting from the absence of the ICT transitions corresponding to the o-carborane moieties due to the anionic character of the nido-o-carboranes. While SFC1 exhibited only high-energy emissions in THF at 298 K (only from locally excited (LE) states assignable to π-π* transitions on the spirobifluorene group), remarkable emissions in the low-energy region were observed in the rigid state such as in THF at 77 K and in the film state. SFC2 displayed intense emissions in the low-energy region in all states. The fact that neither of the nido-derivatives of SFC1 and SFC2 exhibited low-energy emissions and the TD-DFT calculation results of each closo-compound clearly verified that the low-energy emission was based on ICT-based radiative decay. The conformational barriers from each relative energy calculation upon changing the dihedral angles around the o-carborane cages for both compounds confirmed that the rotation of the o-carborane cages and terminal phenyl rings for SFC1 is freer than that for SFC2.

The renewable energy protocol in the world pushed most countries to extensive use of renewable energy sources, in exchange for a reduction of energy from conventional sources. In this article, the possibilities of exchange the water hammer energy to a column of water pressure evaluated experimentally. For this purpose, a ram pump made by two-inch internal diameter. Results indicated that ram pump power such as relative useful power (Pd/PT) and relative waste power (Pw/PT) were depended to length to diameter ratio of drive pipe (L/D), the relative energy due to steady flow velocity and impulse valve features (Ea/Ei), and the ratio of required pumping energy to maximum energy of water hammer (Ep/Em). Low energy availability (EA), caused by insufficient caloric intake for daily energy expenditure, is detrimental to an athlete's performance and long-term health. Male and female athletes are at considerable risk for low EA and relative energy deficiency in sport because of intense training regimens, potential lack of nutrition education, and pressures associated with “ideal” body type for performance. This review summarizes the endocrine and metabolic changes observed in athletes with low EA with an emphasis on the most recent research findings. While awareness of relative energy deficiency in sport has significantly increased, further investigation is needed in the advancement of a sensitive diagnostic tool across populations.

Over the past decade, a critical mass of feminist scholars has been working to develop new ways of understanding the complex interactions between the social and biological body. Working broadly under the umbrella of ‘new materialisms,’ a subgroup of feminist scholars is proposing alternative non-dualistic models for engaging with biology, corporeality, science, and matter. In this study, we take inspiration from this body of literature, and particularly Samantha Frost’s recent concept of ‘biocultural creatures’ to explore the complex entanglements between sporting cultures and women’s biological bodies. In conceiving of biology differently, this study reveals the dynamism and plasticity of the biocultural sporting body and reveals sportswomen as active agents in these processes. Interviews with sportswomen in two different sporting cultures—endurance multi-sport events (triathlon and Ironman) and rugby sevens—offer rich insights into how different body ideals, physical requirements, support structures, and performance cultures intra-act with women’s biological bodies, and particularly their embodied experiences of the health condition known as Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S). Ultimately, this study reveals sportswomen as biocultural creatives, “constantly composing, decomposing and recomposing” (Frost 2016, p. 149) in response to their engagement with distinctive sporting habitats.

Acoustic emission (AE) technique is a proven effective technique for monitoring underground mines and caverns. With the advancement in the data acquisition technology, AE signals up to 2–5 MHz of frequency can be recorded successfully. However, this generates a lot of data to be analyzed and stored. This paper presents a concept of a simple and cost-effective, low-frequency AE technique for monitoring damages in the rocks. The tests were performed on Kota sandstone rock specimens in compression at three different displacement rates of 0.01, 0.05 and 0.1 mm/s. The AE signals were recorded successfully through thin square piezo-patches (used as the AE transducers) and a commercially available sound card for data logging. The proposed technique has been found to be easy and very much cost-effective in capturing low-frequency AE signals. The recorded data were processed for determining different AE parameters like cumulative AE count, relative energy of an event and event rate.

A combination of high levels of physical activity, low sex hormone concentrations and subsequent low bone mineral density is commonplace in athletic populations. Low bone mineral density can lead to an increased risk of stress reactions or fractures, which can significantly reduce sport participation time. The use of heavy strength training has been effective at increasing bone mineral density in older, frail osteoporotic populations, and there is evidence that it would also be effective in athletic populations with low bone density. In addition to potentially reducing the risk of stress reactions and fractures, heavy strength training may be beneficial for endurance performance, including when being used as a replacement for some of the endurance activities. Thus, individuals exhibiting symptoms associated with the Female Athlete Triad, the Exercise Hypogondal Male Condition or Relative Energy Deficiency in Sports should consider implementing heavy strength training as part of their exercise regimen.

Introduction: Competing in aesthetic sports increases the risk of low energy availability and associated health impairments. Fitness physique sport is a popular, but understudied aesthetic sport. We evaluated health and symptoms of relative energy deficiency in sport (RED‐s) in female fitness athletes (FA) and female references (FR) during a competitive season. Methods: Totally, 25 FA and 26 FR, mean (SD) age of 28.9 (5.7), were included. Assessments were at baseline (T1), 2‐weeks pre‐competition (T2), and 1‐month post‐competition (T3), by dual‐energy x‐ray absorptiometry scan, indirect calorimetry, diet registration, The Low Energy Availability in Females Questionnaire, The Beck Depression Inventory, and Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE‐Q). Results: A history of eating disorders was reported by 35% FA and 12% FR. There were no between‐group differences at T1, besides less mean (99% CI) fat mass (FM) of 3.1 kg (−0.4, 6.5) in FA (P = .02). At T2, FA had lower BW of 6.7 kg (−12.0, −1.3), fat mass of −9.0 kg (−12.5, −5.5), and resting heart rate of −8.0 beats per minute (−14.5, −1.5) compared to FR (P ≤ .006). FA reduced resting metabolic rate by −191 kcal (−11, −371) and increased symptoms of gastrointestinal dysfunction (GD) by 1.4 points (0.3, 2.5) and prevalence of amenorrhea from 8% to 24%, (P < .003). At T3, there was a between‐group difference in fat mass, and a high number of FA with amenorrhea and GD. Conclusion: Manifestation of symptoms of RED‐s, some with persistence one‐month post‐competition, raises concern for the health of FA and those complying with the fit body ideal. An operating fund covers the DXA expenses was generously offered by the Norwegian Dairy Council, with no further involvement in the analyses of the results or interpretations.

Purpose: the aim of the article is to develop the tools for monitoring of region energy efficiency on the base of improving the assessment of the rationality of energy consumption in municipalities and using subsequent comparative analysis of energy efficiency cross municipalities that are homogeneous in structure of the gross municipal products (GMP) and similar to each other in terms of economic development. Discussion: the authors propose three stages for the achievement of the goal. The first stage is the grouping of municipalities of a region according to the sectoral structure of their GMP-s and their levels of economic development using the cluster analysis method. The second stage is the selection of partial indicators of energy consumption, both currently used in practice and some additional ones, which the territorial bodies of state statistics produces. The third stage is the integral rating assessment of the energy consumption rationality for all municipalities according to an extended list of partial indicators over a number of years and a comparative analysis of the territories energy efficiency, taking into account their production specializations and levels of economic development. The application of the methodology of annual rating assessment over a number of years allows us to reveal the relative energy efficiency of each municipality. Results: the authors propose the grouping of the Volgograd region municipalities according to their production specialization and economic development. The article contains the integral rating assessment of their energy efficiency for 2012, 2015 and 2016. The authors present the most productive in the field of energy efficiency are industrial and commercial-financial municipalities (they are also the most economically developed). Agrarian-bioresource municipalities demonstrate average level of energy efficiency. The least level of energy efficiency show budget-dependent municipalities (they are also the least economically developed).

We consider a model of a two–phase flow based on the phase field approach, where the fluid bulk velocity obeys the standard Navier–Stokes system while the concentration difference of the two fluids plays a role of order parameter governed by the Allen–Cahn equations. Possible thermal fluctuations are incorporated through a random forcing term in the Allen–Cahn equation. We show that suitable dissipative martingale solutions satisfy a stochastic version of the relative energy inequality. This fact is used for showing the weak–strong uniqueness principle both pathwise and in law.

The effect of bariatric surgery on resting energy expenditure (REE) remains unclear, particularly in terms of the REE/fat-free mass (FFM) ratio. We performed a systematic review with a meta-analysis on Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) studies to investigate the effect of bariatric surgery on the REE/FFM ratio 6 and 12 months postoperatively. A prospective, randomized, controlled study was designed to determine relative aerobic and anaerobic (lactic and alactic) contributions at supramaximal exercise intensities using two different methods. Thoroughbred racehorses ( n = 5) performed a maximal rate of oxygen consumption (V̇o2max) test and three supramaximal treadmill runs (105, 115, and 125% V̇o2max). Blood lactate concentration (BL) was measured at rest, every 15 s during runs, and 2, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 min postexercise. In method 1, oxygen demand was calculated for each supramaximal intensity based on the V̇o2maxtest, and relative aerobic and anaerobic contributions were calculated from measured V̇o2and the accumulated oxygen deficit. In method 2, aerobic contribution was calculated using the trapezoidal method to determine V̇o2during exercise. A monoexponential model was fitted to the postexercise V̇o2curve. Alactic contribution was calculated using the coefficients of this model. Lactate anaerobic contribution was calculated by multiplying the peak to resting change in BL by 3. Linear mixed-effects models were used to examine the effects of exercise intensity and method (as fixed effects) on measured outcomes ( P ≤ 0.05). Relative aerobic and anaerobic contributions were not different between methods ( P = 0.20). Horses’ mean contributions were 81.4, 77.6, and 72.5% (aerobic), and 18.5, 22.3, and 27.4% (anaerobic) at 105, 115, and 125% V̇o2max, respectively. Individual alactic anaerobic energy was not different between supramaximal exercise intensities ( P = 0.43) and was negligible, contributing a mean of 0.11% of the total energy. Relative energy contributions can be calculated using measured V̇o2and BL in situations where the exercise intensity is unknown. Understanding relative metabolic demands could help develop tailored training programs.NEW & NOTEWORTHY Relative energy contributions of horses can be calculated using measured V̇o2and BL in situations where the exercise intensity is unknown. Horses’ mean contributions were 81.4, 77.6, and 72.5% (aerobic), and 18.5, 22.3, and 27.4% (anaerobic) at 105, 115, and 125% of V̇o2max, respectively. This paper empirically measures the impact of sectoral energy price differential between trading partners on Indian exports. Using dynamic gravity model, we estimate the response of Indian exports for 11 energy-intensive sectors to sectoral-level energy price asymmetry. We observe the absence of the contemporaneous effect of energy price differential on Indian exports, but the presence of persistence effects. We find that a 10% increase in relative energy prices negatively affects Indian sectoral exports by about 1% ranging from 0.9% for chemicals to 1.4% for non-ferrous metals, revealing a larger impact for energy-intensive sectors. These small effects imply that the concerns of carbon leakage are largely overplayed.

The energy profiles of hydrogen-bonded heterocyclic aromatics have been decomposed into atomistic energy contributions using the Interacting Quantum Atoms (IQA) method. The resulting energy contributions have been sequenced by the Relative Energy Gradient (REG) approach in order to determine their influence upon the shape of these energy profiles. The results show inadequacies in Jorgensen’s secondary interaction hypothesis (SIH). A novel method of finding a condensed analogy for the interaction between the molecules is presented. The findings of this work further doubt the validity of the SIH, and reinforce previous warnings against its misguided use.

Background: One-neutron removal reactions are used to study the single-particle structure of unstable nuclei, and in particular the exotic halo nuclei. The eikonal reaction theory (ERT) has been developed by Yahiro, Ogata, and Minomo [Prog. Theor. Phys. 126, 167 (2011)10.1143/PTP.126.167] to include dynamical effects, which are missing in the usual eikonal description of these reactions. Encouraging results have been obtained for total breakup cross sections in comparison to more elaborate reaction models. Purpose: We extend these comparisons to more differential breakup cross sections expressed as functions of the relative energy or parallel momentum between the core and halo neutron. Method: ERT predictions of these cross sections are compared to state-of-the-art calculations. Results: The hypotheses upon which the ERT is based are confirmed and their range of validity is made clearer. The actual ordering of the evolution operators affects ERT differential cross sections and a specific choice leads to excellent agreement with the reference calculation. Dynamical effects in the treatment of the neutron-target interaction can be significant in the parallel-momentum observable. The purpose of this case series was to evaluate the presence of low Energy Availability (EA) and its impact on components of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) in a population of female collegiate runners. Seven female NCAA Division I athletes (age: 22.3 ± 1.5 yrs; height: 169.7 ± 5.7 cm; weight: 58.3 ± 4.1 kg) were tracked from August until February, covering the beginning (Pre XC), end (Post XC) of their competitive cross country season, and beginning of the following track season (Pre Track). The athletes were assessed for female athlete triad (Triad) risk, energy availability, body composition, resting metabolic rate (RMR), nutritional intake, and blood markers (including vitamin D, ferritin, and triiodothyronine (T3)). From Pre XC to Post XC there were no significant differences in body mass, fat free mass or body fat percentage. At Pre XC, mean EA was 31.6 ± 13.3 kcal/kg FFM∙d-1. From Post XC to Pre Track, there was a significant increase in body mass (59.1 ± 5.1 to 60.6 ± 5.7 kg, p-1, pvs 39.5 ± 12.2 ng·mL-1, p=0.047,d=-0.4), and a significant increase from Post XC to Pre Track (39.5 ± 12.2 vs. 48.1 ± 10.4 ng·mL-1, p=0.014,d=0.75). For ferritin, there was a trend towards a decrease from Pre XC to Post XC (24.2 ± 13.2 vs. 15.7 ± 8.8 ng·mL-1, p=0.07, d=-0.75), as well as a trend toward an increase from Post XC to Pre Track (15.7 ± 8.8 vs. 34.1 ± 18.0 ng·mL-1, p=0.08, d=1.3). No differences in T3 were observed across time points. Average Triad risk score was 2.3 ± 1.4. Notably, 5 of 7 athletes met criteria for moderate risk. Despite many athletes meeting criteria for low EA and having elevated Triad risk assessment scores, most were able to maintain body mass and RMR. One athlete suffered severe performance decline and a reduced RMR. Surprisingly, she was the only athlete above the recommended value for ferritin. Following increased nutritional intake and reduced training volume, her performance and RMR recovered. Changes in body mass and body composition were not indicative of the presence of other concerns associated with RED-S. This exploratory work serves as a guide for future, larger studies for tracking athletes, using RMR and nutritional biomarkers to assess RED-S.

In a healthy athlete, the caloric intake is sufficient for sports energy needs and body physiological functions, allowing a balance between energy availability, bone metabolism, and menstrual cycle. On the other hand, an imbalance caused by low energy availability due to a restrictive diet, eating disorders or long periods of energy expenditure leads to multisystemic deregulation favoring the essential functions of the body. This phenomenon, described as the female athlete triad, occurs in a considerable percentage of high-performance athletes, with harmful consequences for their future. The present review was carried out based on a critical analysis of the most recent publications available and aims to provide a global perception of the topic relative energy deficit in sport (RED-S). The objective is to promote the acquisition of more consolidated knowledge on an undervalued theme, enabling the acquisition of preventive strategies, early diagnosis and/or appropriate treatment.Em uma atleta saudável, o aporte calórico é suficiente para a necessidade energética esportiva e para as funções fisiológicas corporais, permitindo um equilíbrio entre disponibilidade energética (DE), metabolismo ósseo e função menstrual. Por outro lado, um desequilíbrio devido à baixa disponibilidade energética (BDE) por dieta restritiva, perturbações alimentares ou grandes períodos de gasto energético conduz a uma desregulação multissistêmica priorizando as funções essenciais do corpo. Este fenômeno, descrito inicialmente como tríade da mulher atleta e, atualmente, como défice energético relativo no esporte (RED-S, na sigla em inglês) tem como pilares a BDE, disfunção menstrual e alterações na densidade mineral óssea (DMO), estando presente em uma percentagem considerável de atletas de alta competição, com consequências nefastas para o seu futuro a curto, médio e longo prazo. A presente revisão foi realizada a partir da análise crítica das publicações mais recentes disponíveis e pretende proporcionar uma percepção global do tema RED-S. O objetivo é promover a aquisição de um conhecimento mais consolidado sobre uma temática subvalorizada, possibilitando a aquisição de estratégias preventivas, diagnóstico precoce e/ou tratamento adequado.

Background: While the popularity of aquatic physical activities continues to grow among women, the effects on energy expenditure (EE) and appetite control remain unknown. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of water temperature during aqua-cycling session on EE, rate of perceived exertion, energy intake, appetite sensations, and food reward in healthy premenopausal women. Methods: Participants completed three experimental sessions, in the postprandial condition, in a randomized order: a land control session (CON), an aqua-cycling session in 18 °C (EXO18), and an aqua-cycling session in 27 °C (EXO27). The EE, food intake, appetite sensations, and food reward were investigated for each condition. Results: EXO18 induced a significant increase in EE (p p p p p p p p Conclusion: An exposure to a moderately cold-water during aqua-cycling is an efficient strategy to promote increased EE and decreased hunger, which may be effective for energy balance management in healthy premenopausal women.

Reducing heating temperature is a universally recognized energy saving measure. However, the same city has buildings completed in different years and with different functional USES at the same time. It is an important issue worth discussing whether it is reasonable for the government to advocate reducing heating temperature by the same range. Based on DOE medium-sized office building as the object, using the Beijing meteorological database system, the thermal characteristics of four envelopment structures representing different completion years, the annual heating energy saving and relative energy saving ratio when the set indoor heating temperature is reduced by the same range are studied. The results show that the worse the thermal performance of the envelope is, the greater the annual heating energy is when the heating setting temperature drops by the same extent. It indicates that the older the building is, the better heating energy saving effect and more heating cost can be achieved by advocating lowering the heating setting temperature of the same range. For the annual relative energy saving ratio, the older buildings with worse envelope structure are slightly higher, while the new buildings with better envelope structure are slightly lower, but they are similar on the whole. It is proved that the policy of reducing heating temperature by the same range in the same city is reasonable for achieving similar energy saving ratio.

The effects of substitution of BaF2 for BaO on physical properties and 1. 8 μm emission have been systematically investigated to improve spectroscopic properties in Tm3+ doped gallium tellurite glasses for efficient 2.0 μm fiber laser. It is found that refractive index and density gradually decrease with increasing BaF2 content from 0 to 9 mol.%, due to the generation of more non-bridging oxygens. Furthermore, OH− absorption coefficient (αOH) reduces monotonically from 3.4 to 2.2 cm−1 and thus emission intensity near 1.8 μm in gallium tellurite glass with 9 mol.% BaF2 is 1.6 times as large as that without BaF2 while the lifetime becomes 1.7 times as long as the one without BaF2. Relative energy transfer mechanism is proposed. The maximum emission cross section and gain coefficient at around 1.8 μm of gallium tellurite glass containing 9 mol.% BaF2 are 8.8 × 10−21 cm2 and 3.3 cm−1, respectively. These results indicate that Tm3+ doped gallium tellurite glasses containing BaF2 appear to be an excellent host material for efficient 2.0 μm fiber laser development.

The symptom similarities between training-overload (with or without an Overtraining Syndrome (OTS) diagnosis) and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) are significant, with both initiating from a hypothalamic-pituitary origin, that can be influenced by low carbohydrate (CHO) and energy availability (EA). In this narrative review we wish to showcase that many of the negative outcomes of training-overload (with, or without an OTS diagnosis) may be primarily due to misdiagnosed under-fueling, or RED-S, via low EA and/or low CHO availability. Accordingly, we undertook an analysis of training-overload/OTS type studies that have also collected and analyzed for energy intake (EI), CHO, exercise energy expenditure (EEE) and/or EA. Eighteen of the 21 studies (86%) that met our criteria showed indications of an EA decrease or difference between two cohorts within a given study (n = 14 studies) or CHO availability decrease (n = 4 studies) during the training-overload/OTS period, resulting in both training-overload/OTS and RED-S symptom outcomes compared to control conditions. Furthermore, we demonstrate significantly similar symptom overlaps across much of the OTS (n = 57 studies) and RED-S/Female Athlete Triad (n = 88 studies) literature. It is important to note that the prevention of under-recovery is multi-factorial, but many aspects are based around EA and CHO availability. Herein we have demonstrated that OTS and RED-S have many shared pathways, symptoms, and diagnostic complexities. Substantial attention is required to increase the knowledge and awareness of RED-S, and to enhance the diagnostic accuracy of both OTS and RED-S, to allow clinicians to more accurately exclude LEA/RED-S from OTS diagnoses.

We propose a one-electron self-interaction-free correlation energy functional compatible with the order-of-limit problem-free Tao-Mo (TM) semilocal functional (regTM) [J. Tao and Y. Mo, Phys. Rev. Lett. 117, 073001 (2016) and Patra et al., J. Chem. Phys. 153, 184112 (2020)] to be used for general purpose condensed matter physics and quantum chemistry. The assessment of the proposed functional for large classes of condensed matter and chemical systems shows its improvement in most cases compared to the TM functional, e.g., when applied to the relative energy difference of MnO2 polymorphs. In this respect, the present exchange-correction functional, which incorporates the TM technique of the exchange hole model combined with the slowly varying density correction, can achieve broad applicability, being able to solve difficult solid-state problems. © 2021 Author(s).

The female athlete may present with unique gender-related sport-related problems. Commonly known as the female athlete triad, now described as relative energy deficiency state in sports or REDs is a syndrome more common in females involving low energy availability, menstrual dysfunction, and poor bone health. This is a syndrome that must be recognized early and approached with a multidisciplinary team. Acute injuries like ACL tears are more common in the female athlete; therefore focus should be established on preventive programs and adequate rehabilitation protocols that take into account intrinsic factors commonly found in women. Lastly, controversies regarding the safety of exercise during and post pregnancy exist, but the evidence is clear in that exercise provides many health benefits not only to the mother but also to the baby; therefore specific considerations must be undertaken, but exercise should be prescribed in this population.

Currently, the refining of sugarcane wax is carried out with 95% v/v ethanol as solvent. This process has a high rate of ethanol consumption thus, the main objective of this work was to corroborate the feasibility of 95% v/v ethanol as a solvent in the refining of sugarcane wax. The suitability of its performance over other organic solvents was evaluated through the relative energy difference (RED) determined from Hansen solubility parameters (HSPs) of sugarcane oil, which were calculated using HSPiP software. HSPs turned out to be δD= 16.24 MPa½, δP= 3.21 MPa½and δH= 10.34 MPa½, similar to those reported for pine resin and castor oil. The best solvent was 1-decanol. 95% v/v ethanol turned out to be a bad solvent. Absolute ethanol had a RED value of 0.993, which made it a better candidate since it could reduce consumption rates, and constituted an eco-friendly solvent produced in Cuba for the refining process. La refinación de la cera cruda de caña se realiza con etanol a 95% v/v, incurriendo en altos índices de consumo, por lo que el objetivo principal de este trabajo es determinar si el etanol a 95% v/v es un solvente adecuado. Su uso respecto a otros solventes orgánicos es evaluado por la diferencia de energía relativa (RED) determinada a partir de los parámetros de solubilidad de Hansen (HSPs), se calcularon usando el programa HSPiP. Los HSPs fueron δD = 16.24 MPa½, δP = 3.21 MPa½and δH = 10.34 MPa ½, siendo similares a los reportados para la resina de pino y el aceite de ricino. El mejor solvente fue 1-decanol, el etanol del 95% v/v fue un mal solvente; el etanol absoluto con un RED= 0.993 es un mejor candidato, ya que podría reducir las tasas de consumo, manteniendo un solvente ecológico y producido en Cuba para el proceso de refinación.
