To assess their orientation in mazes, Dashiell (1930) developed a procedure allowing rats to reach the goal by utilizing paths of equal distance from the starting point. The main finding was the variety of new pathways the subjects took to reach the goal. Given the need for a task that might evaluate behavioral variability in humans, a simulation of the Dashiell procedure was developed: a virtual maze for human participants. With the goal of validating an animal model task for assessing human behavior variability, this study presents an experiment comparing rat and human performance when traversing a Dashiell maze. Results showed that rats in their maze and humans in the virtual version had similar path variability for reaching the goal; though humans showed higher dispersion from the mean. We conclude that the adaptive function of route variability in rats is similar to that in humans; thus the virtual Dashiell maze could become a reliable and straightforward task for assessing human behavior variability. Our study encourages the use of virtual mazes to compare behavioral variability between humans and other species.

The purpose of this study was to optimize the distribution route of commercial rice for general logistics companies in Kendari City using the branch and bound method with the help of lingo software. This research was conducted at the Perum Bulog, Southeast Sulawesi Regional Office. Determination of the location of the research is done intentionally (purposive sampling) which considers that Perum Bulog in Kendari has regular customers, distributes its products, and requires optimization of route determination to optimize distribution costs. Variables in this study: (a) location and several customer requests; (b) Bulog's DC location and capacity; (c) the number and capacity of vehicles for the distribution of Bulog's commercial rice; and (d) the distance between Bulog's DC and customers and the distance between Bulog's commercial rice customers using Google Maps in the form of secondary data. Data analysis in research uses: (a) nearest neighbor method, done by starting from the Distribution Center Warehouse/DC Bulog Sultra as the starting point of distribution and then looking for customer points in Kendari City; (and (b) the branch and bound method assisted by the syntax script of the Lingo program. The study results show that the optimal route that can be used in the distribution of Bulog's commercial rice in Kendari City is from DC in Mandonga to all customers in various regions in Kendari City. Thenreturned to DC in Mandonga, where this route experienced a decrease in vehicle mileage from 424.83km to 349.59km. The branch and bound (BnB) method showed that it optimize distribution routes so that the distance traveled by vehicles on each route cluster is reduced.

Consistent and reliable information on passenger traffic is considered crucial for the efficient operation of the public transport (PT) network. The PT network is used to improve public services and thus attract more passengers. This study evaluated the passenger traffic in Odesa, Ukraine, due to the inefficient urban transport system. The main aim of this study was to make PT better by examining passenger distribution on traffic routes and specifying characteristics of PT travel influencing individual satisfaction. The metric-tabular method was used to collect data and examine the number of incoming and outgoing passengers at each bus stop. The results of the passenger and PT analysis provide valuable recommendations for optimizing future routes. It is beneficial for transport companies to implement such recommendations so that inefficient transport on the route can be reduced by either reforming the route network or choosing the optimal number of buses. According to the findings of this study, understanding PT services is the most important determinant of PT adoption. The main implications of the findings are of particular interest to policymakers who develop policies in the field of passenger transport and also to transport scientists and students.

Being able to represent and remember verbally-encoded information about spatial environments from different perspectives is important for numerous daily activities. The present study examined how frequently individuals spontaneously engage in visual mental imagery and verbal rehearsal strategies in memory recall of spatial descriptions, and whether using certain strategies is associated with better recall performance. Memory recall for route (person-centred) and survey (object-centred) spatial descriptions was examined in a sample of 105 neurotypical individuals, who also reported to what extent they used route- and survey-based mental imagery and verbal rehearsal strategies in each description. Results showed that participants favoured a path visualisation strategy to recall the route description and a map visualisation strategy to recall the survey description. Regression models further showed that employing both imagery and verbal strategies was associated with better recall for both route and survey descriptions, although imagery strategies held a higher predictive power. The present findings highlight the fact that the spontaneous use of internal strategies in the form of visual imagery and verbal rehearsal is ubiquitous when recalling spatial descriptions and a core part of efficient spatial memory functioning.

Despite the positive aspects of information technology (IT) use, it is common for users to experience negative IT incidents. Examples of negative IT incidents include getting lost in an unfamiliar country due to a dysfunctional map application and missing a monetary insurance benefit due to the failure of an activity tracker application. Such incidents can harm IT providers by giving rise to user dissatisfaction, discontinued use, switching, and negative word-of-mouth. To minimize this harm, it is important to understand how users cope after negative incidents. Specifically, information systems (IS) researchers have called for research that uncovers the complex interplay of IT users’ coping strategies (e.g., users’ coping efforts after employing one strategy and combinations of several consecutive strategies). To address these calls, we conducted a mixed methods study that examined mobile application users’ coping strategies after highly negative incidents. We developed a model that explains how users navigate between problem-focused strategies, emotion-focused strategies, and appraisals. As theoretical contributions, we identify coping sequences and distinct routes from the coping strategies, uncover the role of momentary emotional load, and present IT-specific insights. In this article, a preliminary exploratory study is undertaken to cover a lesser researched topic in the tourism literature concerning the conceptualisation of heritage-based routes. A route of lessknown heritage that crosses a territory with varied cultures is proposed. It is intended that the route contributes to the practice of creating itineraries for tourists. The route extends from Central Europe to the Iberian Peninsula and is related to historical and mythical legacies of Elisabeth of Hungary (1207-1231); Landgrave of Thuringia and; Isabel (Elisabeth), Princess of Aragon (1270?-1336) and Queen of Portugal. In this research, we opt for a qualitative approach, using both primary and secondary sources of data collection. Documentary sources, namely cultural-historical-mythical, field observation undertaken over several years and visual material collected. Results led to defining a common theme, as they share the miracle that earned them immortality – the miracle of the roses. Secondly, heritage elements were obtained and information on their history was collected to highlight specificities of the territories and identify the cultural path and points along the route. This paper proposes a new approach to solve the problem of bus network design and frequency setting (BNDFS). Transit network design must satisfy the needs of both service users and transit operators. Numerous optimisation techniques have been proposed for BNDFS in the literature. Previous approaches tend to adopt a sequential optimisation strategy that conducts network routing and service frequency setting in two separate steps. To address the limitation of sequential optimisation, our new algorithm uses Reinforcement Learning for a simultaneous optimisation of three key components of BNDFS: the number of bus routes, the route design and service frequencies. The algorithm can design the best set of bus routes without defining the total number of bus routes in advance, which can reduce the overall computational time. The proposed algorithm was tested on the benchmark Mandl Swiss network. The algorithm is further extended to the routing of express services. The validation includes additional test scenarios which modify the transit demand level on the Mandl network. The new algorithm can be useful to assist transit agencies and planners in improving existing routing and service frequency to cope with changing demand conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The vehicle collision avoidance system has problems such as poor emergency collision avoidance ability and susceptibility to noise interference. Therefore, this study adopts a vehicle tracking model that integrates dynamic constraints and a two car following model to construct a Collaborative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) model that integrates Multi Constraints Model Predictive Control (MPC). And conducted simulation experimental research. The results show that in emergency braking collision avoidance conditions, the collision avoidance model designed in this study can quickly respond to the distance control requirements, and the control stability is higher than that of common collision avoidance systems. The standard deviation of the rear car acceleration of the MPC+CACC, reinforcement learning (RL), and proportional-integral-differential (PID) models are 0.18m/s2, 0.25m/s2, and 0.46m/s2, respectively. The car spacing error of the MPC+CACC, RL, and PID models converge to 0m when the time is about 13 seconds, 33 seconds, and 40 seconds, respectively. This study has certain reference significance for improving the collision avoidance ability of China’s intelligent vehicle collision avoidance system.

This paper considers an optimal movement routing problem with constraints. One such constraint is due to decomposing the original problem into a preliminary subproblem and a final subproblem; the tasks related to the preliminary problem must be executed before the tasks of the final subproblem begin. In particular, this condition may arise in the tool control problem for thermal cutting machines with computer numerical control (CNC): if there are long parts among workpieces, the cutting process near a narrow material boundary should start with these workpieces since such parts are subject to thermal deformations, which may potentially cause rejects. The problem statement under consideration involves two zones for part processing. The aggregate routing process in the original problem includes a starting point, a route (a permutation of indices), and a particular track consistent with the route and the starting point. Each of the subproblems has specific precedence conditions, and the travel cost functions forming the additive criterion may depend on the list of pending tasks. A special two-stage procedure is introduced to apply dynamic programming as a solution method. The structure of the optimal solution is established and an algorithm based on this structure is developed. To satisfy the need for resident transportation between offshore islands and a mainland, and among offshore islands, some ferry firms are asked to run low-volume routes. Since low-volume routes often bring losses to operators, the government may provide compensation to those offshore ferry routes. However, the current subsidy methods may result in operating inefficiency. Also, the previous studies lack a mechanism for auditing the performance of these ferry routes while considering subsidies. In order to solve these problems and consider the operational characteristics of ferry routes and the fairness of input and output multipliers, this study proposes a different performance-based mechanism built by a cross-efficiency two-stage network data envelopment analysis to allocate subsidies and set targets for individual offshore ferry routes. By setting targets, the government can supervise subsidy usage. An empirical example of seven offshore ferry routes in Taiwan is illustrated. The different results of allocation between stages can be found for all routes and the individual intermediate product and final output targets can be set for all routes. The results provide constructive suggestions for the policymaker on how to allocate subsidies and set targets among offshore ferry routes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Construction sites commonly utilize bulldozers, wheel loaders, excavators, scrapers, and graders. Among these, excavators are versatile hydraulic heavy-duty equipment operated by humans. They are employed for various tasks like digging, levelling the ground, transporting and dumping loads, as well as providing straight traction. However, certain hazardous environments, such as nuclear disasters or earthquakes, are not suitable for human on-site work. To enhance productivity, accuracy, and profitability in excavation projects, the adoption of 3D machine control is recommended. The Topcon 3D Excavator X63 System offers advanced and precise GNSS positioning technology, coupled with Hidromek with Assist and an intuitive software interface, to significantly improve excavation operations. In this study, the accuracy of the coordinates of the route followed by the Excavator was checked by using RTK GNSS method by using P1 reference point. While the differences obtained in horizontal coordinates are 2-2.5 cm and 4-6 cm in vertical coordinates. In addition, excavation calculations of the earthwork area were performed and checked with the number of bucket of the excavator. The spatial analysis of primary schools is needed to ensure that they meet standards set by the Government of India. Therefore, mapping of Prayagraj district primary schools is carried out in this research work. The spatial analysis of schools is performed using various parameters that include: literacy rate, student gender ratio, teacher taught ratio, and students' toilets ratio. Several problems were revealed in the GIS based analysis of schools by highlighting their locations on the map. The results identify the location of all those schools where there is a need to take corrective measures. Further, the route analysis between home and school is handled in this research work. Sometimes, commutation is the sole criteria in the selection of a school. Therefore, optimal path analysis has been performed based on three parameters, i.e. population density, traveling distance and traveling time. A combined weight function is also given to find the optimal path. This work will help people to select the best possible path based upon their requirements. There is often a requirement to reach all the schools to distribute the goods or other physical monitoring activities. This work gave the optimal route to visit all the schools by using the Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP). School accessibility results obtained in this research through TSP will assist in choosing the best possible route. Electromagnetic pulse welding technology shows a wide range of applications in welding dissimilar metals. In this work, the effect of the angle between the magnesium sheet rolling route and welding direction on the magnesium–aluminum joint has been studied. An electromagnetic pulse welding equipment WD-28 was used to weld the magnesium sheet and aluminum sheet. The angle was set to 0º, 45º, and 90º, and the discharge energy was set from 10.08 kJ to 17.92 kJ. The mechanical property of the magnesium–aluminum joints was compared. Scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive spectrometer were used to observe the microscopic morphology and element distribution of the bonding interface. Results show that the tensile strength of the joint is the highest when the angle is 0º under the same conditions. The tensile strength of the magnesium sheet, the movement of the collision point, and the metal jet during the electromagnetic pulse welding process were affected by the angle, causing the difference in the thickness of the diffusion layer, the morphology of the wavy interface, and the length of the welded zone. Abuse of hard drugs has become a norm for an increasing number of young people globally with methamphetamine currently the second most abused in Nigeria. The need for people to know as much as it is consumed was what inspired this research. With the oral, inhaled and intraperitoneal as the three routes of administration to be investigated, the animals were sequestered into seven groups of five each. Besides the control group, the other six were used to investigate effects of administering low and high doses of methamphetamine. Doses 0.57mg/kg and 14.28mg/kg were administered to the test animals via inhalation, oral and intraperitoneal means for 21 days while their weights were taken four times in a five day interval before sacrifice and biochemical analysis. The highest reductions in weight were recorded in groups orally administered 14.28mg/kg with a reduction percentage of 24.4% while those intraperitoneally administered 14.28mg/kg showed a 15.9% increase in weight. Abating the air emission related to the transportation sector by operation of the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system has been adopted in Indonesia. This study was conducted to obtain an overview of the implementation of BRT, the success of shifting private vehicles to BRT, and the number of emissions resulting from the operation of BRT. The study was conducted using a questionnaire and observations in BRT vehicles. A questionnaire survey was conducted randomly across Semarang sub-districts for 701 private vehicles consisting of cars and motorcycles in a parking lot. Questionnaires were distributed to BRT users in the waiting room and among those who left the BRT. The emission quantity is obtained from GPS observations installed in the BRT and quantified by the emission generation equation based on the bus speed. Even though they are not BRT users for daily activities, motorcycle users use BRT more frequently than private car users. For the private car and motorcycle users, the BRT coverage area is the first barrier to using the BRT system, followed by travel time (due to congestion and traffic jams). Based on current BRT users, the shifting of motorcycle users is far higher than private car users. About 30% of public transport users (besides BRT) shift to BRT users. The BRT emissions (CO and TSP) in the east-west corridor on weekdays and weekends are higher than those in the south-north corridor. Based on this study's results, the BRT application has not significantly reduced the use of private vehicles. Instead, shifting occurs from former public transport to BRT. BRT emissions are related to traffic route conditions and topography. BRT implementation needs to comprehensively consider social, economic and technical (infrastructure) aspects.

Objectives. The theory and methods of spline approximation of plane curves given by a sequence of points are currently undergoing rapid development. Despite fundamental differences between used splines and those considered in the theory and its applications, results published earlier demonstrate the possibility of using spline approximation when designing routes of linear structures. The main difference here consists in the impossibility of assuming in advance the number of spline elements when designing the routes. Here, in contrast to widely use polynomial splines, the repeating element is the link “segment of a straight line + arc of a circle” or “segment of a straight line + arc of a clothoid + arc of a circle + arc of a clothoid.” Previously, a two-stage scheme consisting of a determination of the number of elements of the desired spline and subsequent optimization of its parameters was proposed. Although an algorithm for solving the problem in relation to the design of a longitudinal profile has been implemented and published, this is not suitable for designing a route plan, since, unlike a profile, a route plan is generally a multivalued function. The present paper aims to generalize the algorithm for the case of spline approximation of multivalued functions making allowance for the design features of the routes of linear structures.Methods. At the first stage, a novel mathematical model is developed to apply the dynamic programming method taking into account the constraints on the desired spline parameters. At the second stage, nonlinear programming is used. In this case, it is possible to analytically calculate the derivatives of the objective function with respect to the spline parameters in the absence of its analytical expression through these parameters.Results. An algorithm developed for approximating multivalued functions given by a discrete series of points using a spline consisting of arcs of circles conjugated by line segments for solving the first stage of the problem is presented. An additional nonlinear programming algorithm was also used to optimize the parameters of the resulting spline as an initial approximation. However, in the present paper, the first stage is considered only, since the complex algorithm of the second stage and its justification require separate consideration.Conclusions. The presented two-stage spline approximation scheme with an unknown number of spline elements is also suitable for approximating multivalued functions given by a sequence of points on a plane, in particular, for designing a route plan for linear structures.

We all know how important transportation is nowadays - from one street to another, from one city to another, from one county to another, from one region to another, from one country to another, from one continent to another and this list can go on with examples. The question we ask ourselves is: Can we find a better way? A better solution? A more accurate way? A more efficient, faster route to travel? All things take more or less time. All journeys matter. Whether you're going for a walk, on a trip, stuck in traffic on your way to work, have a small business and want to save money on bills, or you are one of the world's biggest entrepreneurs, for all of us, every second matters. That is why our transport, or our things, goods and so on, must be as efficient, accurate, correctly planned as possible, but at the same time safe. Nowadays, when everything is in a very accelerated continuous evolution, the efficiency and speed of achieving our goals are very important. There is a lot of emphasis on as little wasted time as possible and as many successes as possible. The expected productivity can only be achieved if all transport features are worked out with great care. Every little detail must be considered, mathematically, computationally, logically and chronologically, so that the overall result is the best, the most suitable, the most efficient for our problem. This work aims to study some examples of transport networks, following their advantages and limitations, and looks for all kinds of solutions, ideas to improve and optimize their costs. Twitter has been actively researched as a human mobility proxy. Tweets can contain two classes of geographical metadata: the location from which a tweet was published, and the place where the tweet is estimated to have been published. Nevertheless, Twitter also presents tweets without any geographical metadata when querying for tweets on a specific location. This study presents a methodology which includes an algorithm for estimating the geographical coordinates to tweets for which Twitter doesn't assign any. Our objective is to determine the origin and the route that a tourist followed, even if Twitter doesn't return geographically identified data. This is carried out through geographical searches of tweets inside a defined area. Once a tweet is found inside an area, but its metadata contains no explicit geographical coordinates, its coordinates are estimated by iteratively performing geographical searches, with a decreasing geographical searching radius. This algorithm was tested in two touristic villages of Madrid (Spain) and a major city in Canada. A set of tweets without geographical coordinates in these areas were found and processed. The coordinates of a subset of them were successfully estimated.

The efficiency of the functioning of urban passenger transport routes has been studied in the paper. It has been established that the functioning of urban passenger transport routes takes place in a non-isolated environment, which affects the system from the moment of its formation and can lead to discrepancy between the calculated and actual efficiency of the system. As a result of the fucntioning indicator analysis of the passenger transportation route, it has been revealed that the environment of the route functioning affects the efficiency in a complex manner. Consequently, the mutual influence of one factor on others should be taken into account. Performance evaluation should be carried out for the entire route system, and not within the separately considered subsystem. As a result of the analysis of such key indicators as income, fuel costs, lubricants, maintenance and repair, discrepancies have been found between the planned values of indicators and actual data. It is determined that the distribution function of the random variables of these indicators is described by a normal law. At the final stage of the study, regularities in the influence of the road transport enterprise parameters on the probability of investment return have been obtained. The proposed integrated approach to determining the efficiency of urban passenger transport routes is based not only on the established, but also on the stochastic parameters that occur during the functioning of these routes. An algorithm has been developed for determining the efficiency of urban route passenger traffic, which takes into account the interrelation of income and expenses, modern ideas about the patterns of change in the prpbability of development of optimistic, pessimistic and intermediate scenarios for improvement of route efficiency events. The algorithm is based on formalized dependences of the change in time of the probabilities of income and expenses which are taken into account in the operation process of urban passenger transport routes with their various parameters.

This study presented the design of a route to carry out the implementation of a Quality Management System (QMS), under a methodology of continuous improvement, based on the Deming cycle or PHVA (Plan, Do, Check, Act), as a guide for the Kaizen method in which the chapters of ISO 9001:2015 were incorporated, in addition to making use of the 5'S philosophy as a corrective tool; on the other hand, initially a diagnosis was developed that shows the context and degree of compliance with the regulations, following this an analysis of the results obtained was carried out and a contribution was made in the documentation of the processes of each entity and finally a structuring to the route for the implementation of the QMS, contributing to the competitiveness, effectiveness, and efficiency of the organizations and compliance of each of its products. The author recently designed, developed and implemented in Maple a package based on the use of digraphs that analyses the connectivity of an overtaking station on a double-track line. It was used to propose an alternative track layout for this kind of station, with advantages over the track layouts usually adopted. However, that package could only deal with "standard" turnouts (but neither with crossings nor with "special" turnouts, such as "single slip turnouts" or "scissors crossings"). This new article presents an improved version of the package. It uses a trick consisting in including virtual vertices in the associated digraph that are dead ends. This way it is possible to include the "special" turnouts in the track layout. It makes it possible to evaluate different alternative track layouts, including "special" turnouts; and to finally find one track layout that has advantages over the standard one and over the one proposed in the previous article. Let us observe that the design of the track layout is key for the exploitation of the infrastructure. Pancreatic adenocarcinomas are highly malignant tumors. The liver, peritoneum, and, very rarely, the skin are the sites of pancreatic metastases. Cutaneous metastasis is rare, with scalp metastasis being seldomly found. We report the case of an elderly woman who initially presented with ulcerated scalp swellings. The immunohistochemistry analysis of the swollen scalp confirmed the presence of a far-metastasized adenocarcinoma. Imaging of the abdomen performed due to increasing cholestatic jaundice revealed adenocarcinoma located at the head of the pancreas. Cholestatic jaundice was treated by trans-biliary percutaneous drainage. She is currently on a chemotherapy regimen. The patient had a follow-up appointment one month ago for the fourth cycle of gemcitabine and paclitaxel and will continue to follow up until eight cycles of chemotherapy sessions. Cutaneous metastases resulting from pancreatic cancer are a rare occurrence and may occasionally present as the only visible symptom; therefore, they should be included in the differential diagnosis of skin lesions., Competing Interests: Human subjects: Consent was obtained or waived by all participants in this study. In the article, computer design of routes of linear structures is considered as a spline approximation problem. A fundamental feature of the corresponding design tasks is that the plan and longitudinal profile of the route consist of elements of a given type. Depending on the type of linear structure, line segments, arcs of circles, parabolas of the second degree, clothoids, etc. are used. In any case, the design result is a curve consisting of the required sequence of elements of a given type. At the points of conjugation, the elements have a common tangent, and in the most difficult case, a common curvature. Such curves are usually called splines. In contrast to other applications of splines in the design of routes of linear structures, it is necessary to take into account numerous restrictions on the parameters of spline elements arising from the need to comply with technical standards in order to ensure the normal operation of the future structure. Technical constraints are formalized as a system of inequalities. The main distinguishing feature of the considered design problems is that the number of elements of the required spline is usually unknown and must be determined in the process of solving the problem. This circumstance fundamentally complicates the problem and does not allow using mathematical models and nonlinear programming algorithms to solve it, since the dimension of the problem is unknown. The article proposes a two-stage scheme for spline approximation of a plane curve. The curve is given by a sequence of points, and the number of spline elements is unknown. At the first stage, the number of spline elements and an approximate solution to the approximation problem are determined. The method of dynamic programming with minimization of the sum of squares of deviations at the initial points is used. At the second stage, the parameters of the spline element are optimized. The algorithms of nonlinear programming are used. They were developed taking into account the peculiarities of the system of constraints. Moreover, at each iteration of the optimization process for the corresponding set of active constraints, a basis is constructed in the null space of the constraint matrix and in the subspace – its complement. This makes it possible to find the direction of descent and solve the problem of excluding constraints from the active set without solving systems of linear equations. As an objective function, along with the traditionally used sum of squares of the deviations of the initial points from the spline, the article proposes other functions taking into account the specificity of a particular project task.

This article presents a methodological proposal for the conceptual construction of the academic habitus based on the co-existence of multi-methodological work in which individuals' habitus and the class habitus of academics are reconstructed, taking into consideration a series of subjective pre-dispositions and institutional conditions. The authors' methodology was qualitative and part of a critical paradigm; their methodological strategy used case studies with a deductive approach. The instruments were a semi-structured interview and a self-completed survey applied to eight academics in a field of education at a Mexican public university. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
