Conflict, instability and the search for better economic prospects have seen a global migrant crisis necessitating destination countries to rethink social integration and social inclusion policies and programmes. The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals have intensified the urgency for governments to promote the social, economic and political inclusion of their citizens, emphasizing migrant communities. Community level leisure and sport programmes present as an inexpensive option for local governments and social development organizations to support the inclusion and empowerment migrant communities. Using an instrumental case study design with a post-structural lens, this research note explored the power differential inherent in leisure and sport programmes and investigated co-design as process to address the power differential. Findings indicate that even though participants experienced a sense of self-empowerment and enhanced perception of social inclusion, co-design as stand-alone strategy does not fully resolve the power differential within leisure programmes presented to migrant residents. This paper explores an emerging research field that considers both digital technologies and social inclusion to create a novel approach to museum management. It investigates the use of digital technologies for developing new services for people with disabilities in terms of the creation of museum inclusivity based on the case of the Museum of Geology and Paleontology located in Florence. The study analyses a special project consisting of a digital tour supported by a robot that allowed disabled people to visit the institution virtually from their homes. The results indicate that the quality of the visits and the experience were perceived by the visitors as completely real and not simply virtual; consequently, the results appear particularly promising when compared with other technologies such as virtual tours and augmented reality. RÉSUMÉ: Dans le cadre d'une étude mixte pré-expérimentale sur le projet d'accompagnement-citoyen PRO-COM auprès d'enfants et d'adolescents avec une lésion neurotraumatique, cette analyse qualitative vise à approfondir notre compréhension de la perspective des familles et des accompagnateurs sur l'acceptabilité et la faisabilité de ce type d'intervention dans la communauté. Sur les six familles recrutées au départ, trois d'entre elles ainsi que les accompagnateurs des jeunes âgés entre 8 et 18 ans ont complété une première entrevue semi-dirigée; alors qu'une seule famille et l'accompagnateur du jeune ont participé à la deuxième entrevue prévue. Une analyse thématique des journaux de bord des accompagnateurs et des verbatim d'entrevues contribue à identifier les caractéristiques facilitantes pour les accompagnements, ainsi que les éléments liés à l'acceptabilité et à la faisabilité du projet. Malgré ses limites, cette étude laisse entrevoir une intervention suffisamment prometteuse pour être explorée davantage dans des études ultérieures. As part of a pre-experimental mixed study on the PRO-COM citizen accompaniment project for children and adolescents with acquired brain injury, this qualitative analysis aims to increase depth of understanding about the perspectives of families and attendants on the acceptability and feasibility of this type of intervention in the community. Of the six families initially recruited, three plus the attendants of youth aged between 8 and 18 completed a first semi-structured interview, while just one family and the youth's attendant took part in the planned second interview. A thematic analysis was performed on the attendants' logbooks and transcripts of semidirected interviews with the attendants and the youths' families. The results help to identify facilitating features for accompaniment, as well as elements linked to the project's acceptability and feasibility. Urban areas increasingly face complex challenges in achieving sustainability, particularly in balancing economic, social, cultural, and environmental needs. Despite their significant potential, multifunctional infrastructures remain underexplored, especially in socio-economically disadvantaged and marginal contexts, where they could play a crucial role in urban regeneration processes. This research, based on a case study of an unused urban infrastructure in Southern Italy, adopts a methodological framework to transform these abandoned urban spaces into integrated multifunctional infrastructures capable of providing social, sports, cultural, educational, and recreational services. The proposed framework offers a comprehensive decision-making tool for planners and policymakers, enabling the assessment of multifunctional infrastructures as strategic assets for urban regeneration. The study employs Discounted Cash Flow Analysis (DCFA) and Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) to assess the economic feasibility and social sustainability of the proposed project. Investment and management costs were analyzed and compared against both direct and indirect economic benefits, revealing scenarios that support the feasibility of public–private investment. Furthermore, sensitivity analysis corroborates the robustness of the model, demonstrating its applicability under variable economic and social conditions. This article examines the predictors of the unwelcoming attitude toward staging LGBTQI+ festivals in Sibiu, Romania. Building on recent insights on festivals as socially sustainable devices contributing to tourism and cultural changes and based on an original survey dataset, we use logistic regression to account for this negative view. Our findings indicate that gender, education, and religiosity are associated with the outcome variable. Men, respondents with up to lower secondary education, and people who self-identify as religious are more inclined to oppose LGBTQI+ festivals, whereas festivalgoers and respondents who have a positive attitude toward Roma festivals are less likely to hold negative views on LGBTQI+ festivals. Likewise, beliefs that the state shall regulate the cultural realm and that tourists contribute to a positive image of Sibiu are positively associated with the unwelcoming attitude toward LGBTQI+ festivals. In Norway, contemporary challenges linked to racism, discrimination, and social exclusion advocate for original approaches to enhance inclusion and appreciation of diversity. In this article, we draw on empirical material from two workshops with four youths from diverse backgrounds. The empirical material includes participant observation, group discussions, reflection logs, and informal dialogues. Using transformative learning theory, we explore whether and what kinds of learning processes occur when youths engage and interact in reflective activities aimed at appreciating diversity. Emphasizing the need to expand youths' existing frames of reference and points of view, the empirical material unveils the power of representation. The analysis suggests that although movies might have transformative potential, personal or peers' experiences make the movies "come alive" and more relatable. This increases the level of critical reflection and self-reflection among the youth participants, thus strengthening the transformative potential. Introduction: Social security, as a core component of the national welfare system, has consistently played a crucial role in ensuring the basic livelihood of citizens and promoting social equity and justice. Against this backdrop, this study explores the association between social security satisfaction and acceptance of vulnerable groups. Methods: This study involved 9923 participants. Generalized linear regression and smooth curve fitting were used to assess the association between social security satisfaction and acceptance of vulnerable groups. Threshold effect was examined by piecewise regression. We conducted subgroup analyses and assessed the potential interaction effect. Results: A non‑linear association was detected between social security satisfaction and inclusion of vulnerable groups with an inflection point of 45.00. When social security satisfaction was < 45.00, inclusion of vulnerable groups increased with increasing social security satisfaction score up to inflection point. The association between social security satisfaction and inclusion of vulnerable groups differed across gender, education level, and spouse subgroups. Discussion: The study reveals the importance of social security satisfaction on their acceptance of vulnerable groups. The positive statistical outcomes associated with participation in sport for young people are commonly used to support claims that sport has the potential to promote social policy goals, especially those related to social inclusion. In this paper, we examine this claim by drawing on interview data from the Norwegian qualitative longitudinal study Inequality in Youth. We investigate how young people’s organized sports participation is related to social inclusion and overall security by focusing on three common sport participation trajectories: not participating, opting out and participating continuously. We find that those who did not participate constituted a particularly selected group that more often was characterized by a situation of struggle related to structural issues such as class and ethnicity; organized sports participation seemed to be less viable in their situation. For ethnic-majority non-participators, this was due to struggles with a complex set of challenges related to family, school, and health, which made sport participation difficult, whereas ethnic-minority non-participators often thrived in other arenas of life but struggled to find activities within traditional sports organizations that suited their preferences. In contrast, the young people in the study who participated continuously and those who opted out of sport had a life situation characterized by an overall sense of security and belonging, with sport first and foremost being a part of their overall life situation. Generally, they shared a sense of security and optimism and a strong degree of social inclusion that their sports participation easily fit into. On the basis of our findings, we concluded that in Norway, where organized sports’ cultural standing is strong, rather than young people’s sport participation promoting social inclusion, their sport participation is a reflection of their life situation in general, and in particular whether they already are socially included. This systematic review aims to explore the role of sports in achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a special focus on SDG 3, which pertains to health and well-being. It seeks to analyze how sports can prevent non-communicable diseases, promote mental and physical health, and offer constructive alternatives for addiction prevention and treatment. A systematic literature review was conducted following the PRISMA-NMA 2020 guidelines. The research question was formulated using the PICO framework. Databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Science Direct were searched using appropriate keywords and Boolean operators. Eligibility criteria were applied to select relevant studies, which were then assessed for quality using CASPe and GRADE systems. The review identified that sports significantly contribute to the achievement of multiple SDGs, notably SDG 3, by enhancing physical and mental health, reducing non-communicable diseases, and promoting well-being. From the analysis of the reviewed articles, which include these aspects, it is concluded that sport significantly impacts sustainable development and can be a powerful tool to address public health and social problems. Sports also play a vital role in economic growth, social inclusion, and gender equality. However, challenges such as inequitable access to sports facilities, gender disparities, and environmental impacts of sports activities were highlighted. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the multifaceted impact of sports on sustainable development, emphasizing its potential to address health and social challenges. Within the literature concerned with museums' contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the most studied museums' focus was on Goals 8 and 11, which promote decent work, economic growth and the sustainable development of cities and communities. Moreover, museums also play a crucial role in supporting Goal 16 by ensuring public access to information and protecting fundamental freedoms following national legislation and international agreements. However, the museums' contribution to SDG 16 achievement has often been omitted. This paper presents a specific study investigating the approaches, methods and tools being deployed in managing museums in collaboration with institutions at all levels. The study is based on a systematic literature analysis and field data collection from a cultural project "Carp Leaping Over Dragon's Gate". Cases corresponding to museum theories and practices as well as relevant projects have been critically analyzed and studied. The research findings include the set targets, the implemented projects that allow for building a peaceful and inclusive society and promoting justice for all in museums, and the ways they help achieve SDG 16. The development of fine motor skills is crucial for children's autonomy, especially for those with special educational needs. This study examines how play can be an effective tool for fostering these skills. A qualitative approach and a descriptive design were used, employing observation methods to analyze five children with special needs aged 4 to 7 years in an inclusive educational setting. Through direct observations over four weeks, significant improvements were recorded in areas such as hand-eye coordination, object manipulation, scissor cutting, and participation in symbolic play, with a noted increase of 30% in each area. Similarly, there was a 30% rise in the children's self-esteem and emotional well-being. These findings indicate that playful activities not only enhance motor skills but also contribute to emotional and social development. The conclusion emphasizes that integrating play into the school curriculum is essential for promoting the holistic development of children with special needs, suggesting that play should be regarded as a vital component of their education and therapy. Drawing from 108 qualitative interviews with 38 participants from an ethnographic study investigating older adults' experiences of inclusion and exclusion in two increasingly socio-economically diverse neighbourhoods, this paper employs a queer approach to identify how older adults construct and narrate socio-cultural change in the neighbourhood, as well as complicate simplistic binary understandings of older adults invoked in ageing-in-place literature. Drawing on neoliberal, heteronormative and racialised discourses, older adult participants engaged in practices of 'Othering' to narrate who did and did not belong in the neighbourhood. Participants referenced three primary non-residents when narrating change in their neighbourhoods: the homeless resident, the temporary resident and the racialised resident. Participants generally 'Othered' these three types of 'residents' as non-(re)productive, i.e. as not contributing to the social fabric of the neighbourhood in normatively valued ways. However, even as participants engaged in practices of 'Othering', a form of exercising power, it was evident that some 'Othered' figures disproportionately affected older adults' sense of belonging to their neighbourhoods. We found that shifting socio-cultural dynamics related to class, race and age, especially as they relate to the temporary resident, posed the biggest challenges to older adults' feelings of belonging, and relationships, to place. Our findings indicate that an inundation of moneyed people and unconventional living arrangements can inadvertently threaten older adults' social spaces and networks, as well as further bound their possibilities for meeting the neoliberal and heteronormative expectations of 'successful ageing' by working against older adults' continued social participation and connectedness. Summary: Incited by the United Nations adoption and ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, social workers are prompted to increasingly pursue an inclusion-focused approach. Our research was carried out in the Netherlands and sought to identify social work practices conducive to fostering social inclusion, in this case with respect to adults with mild intellectual disabilities. For 2½ years, a responsive methodology was employed in a combined action and social design research. Sixteen social workers and five people with intellectual disabilities were involved. The study was conducted in three different settings across the Netherlands, both rural and urban. Findings: Three social work practices were captured that generate social inclusion: agency, advocacy, and intrapreneurship. Applications: Identification of generative practices provides guidance to social workers in shaping the promotion of social inclusion. It provides guidance in reflecting on past and current inclusion-focused social work performance, it may encourage social workers to adopt inclusion-focused pathways inspired by agency, advocacy and intrapreneurship, and knowledge of generative practices toward social inclusion can help to specify social workers' competencies. Spanish-speaking immigrant students, particularly those from Central America, constitute a rapidly growing subpopulation in U.S. public schools. As primary institutions for socialization, cultural learning, and academic knowledge development, schools often offer immigrant students their first experience of U.S. cultures and the English language. However, schools may mirror broader sociopolitical dynamics of marginalization and social exclusion. The current qualitative study, which explored the school-based experiences of Central American immigrant adolescent students enrolled in English language learner (ELL) programming, sheds light on the specific dynamics of social inclusion (and exclusion) in public schools as institutions, and how such dynamics impact processes of acculturation and overall sense of belonging. Specifically, participant perspectives highlighted the ways in which the institutional design of ELL programs, as well as highly racialized and assimilative school policies and practices, hinder cultural exchange and social inclusion. Objective: Children with disabilities and their families continue to face challenges in social inclusion and accessing resources. This study aimed to evaluate the availability and associated challenges of using services for these children and their families. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted to analyze social services for children with disabilities. Data were collected from the official websites of both public and private institutions across three regions in South Korea. These data included information on the service contents and the characteristics of the target beneficiaries. Results: A total of 12,841 service units were analyzed and grouped into 10 domains and 35 categories of social services. The most frequently identified service content was "Healthcare," followed by "Child and family care" and "Community services." The most frequently used characteristic of target beneficiaries was "Residential area," followed by "Income level," "Benefit," and "Type of disability." Conclusion: The current services are limited in meeting the needs of children with disabilities, particularly in terms of selection criteria, service content, and the integration of policies and delivery systems, contributing to a lack of social inclusion and lower quality of life. This study takes a process-oriented approach to answer the research question: how may long-standing religious festivals promote sustainable development by modifying various ritual elements? The contribution of one-time events to overarching long-term sustainability goals may be hindered predominantly by their transitory nature. Based on a case study, this research examines a 400-year-old annual Hindu festival, Durga Puja, as a potential contributor to sustainable development. The data comprises online news articles on the Durga Puja published between 2002 and 2022 in the Indian daily, The Times of India. Based on a thematic data analysis, the research findings highlight three processual themes related to altering various ritual elements: artefacts, scripts, performance roles and audience. These themes include subverting the patriarchal, adopting a proactive approach to invitation and facilitation, and incorporating visual storytelling. The study's findings have theoretical implications regarding the broader discussions on sustainability, such as sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the potential of festivals to contribute to them through ritual modifications. Background: Substantial research has demonstrated the strong influence of family factors on adolescent depressive symptoms. However, the mechanisms underlying this relationship, particularly the moderating effects of sex and sexual orientation, remain unclear. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the direct and indirect effects of family intimacy on depressive symptoms among adolescents, while examining the mediating role of social inclusion and anxiety disorders. Furthermore, it explored how these effects are moderated by sex and sexual orientation. Method: Data from the nationwide School Health Promotion Study in Finland were used (N = 155,166; adolescents aged 14–17 years). The analysis included a multiple mediation model to evaluate the pathways linking family intimacy to depressive symptoms, through social inclusion and anxiety disorders. Moderation analyses were conducted to explore the moderating effects of sex and sexual orientation on these pathways. Results: Family intimacy had a significant direct negative effect on depressive symptoms. Social inclusion and anxiety disorders were identified as mediators, with social inclusion serving as a significant buffer to depression. Moderation analysis revealed that these effects were stronger for non-heterosexual adolescents and varied by sex, with females showing a stronger impact of social inclusion on depressive symptoms, whereas males were more influenced by the pathway through anxiety disorders. Conclusion: The findings highlight the crucial roles of social inclusion and family intimacy in mitigating depressive symptoms among adolescents. Interventions should prioritize enhancing social inclusion, particularly for non-heterosexual adolescents, and tailor strategies based on sex differences to optimize outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD) aims at providing food and (non‐)material assistance to the most vulnerable European citizens. Linking macro and micro data on the importance of FEAD resources shows, however, a mixed picture of targeting the most deprived: although FEAD budgets accrue more to countries with greater social needs, when the budgets are compared with the number of severely deprived persons, FEAD resources were found to be more than twice as high in Finland than in Hungary. This suggests that FEAD does not differentiate sufficiently across countries to focus on the poorest citizens within the Union. Moreover, a micro‐level analysis of how these budgets are spent in a number of selected countries (Belgium, Finland, Hungary and Spain) reveals large between‐ and within‐country variations in the developed FEAD programmes, indicating substantial discretionary leeway for Member States and social organisations to implement FEAD. European governments have increasingly relied on voluntary sport clubs (VSCs) to address social issues, particularly refugees' social inclusion. Contemporarily, millions of Ukrainian refugees have fled to neighbouring countries; VSCs are thus more relevant than ever. This review synthesised the research on VSCs' enabling and constraining features regarding refugees' social inclusion. The review was conceptualised according to Bronfenbrenner's Process-Person-Context-Time framework and DeLuca's spectrum of social inclusion. The key findings indicate that: (i) initiatives are propelled by individuals with pre-existing capital and a commitment to social justice; (ii) the interaction between the organisational culture of VSCs and these individuals plays a crucial role in achieving social inclusion; (iii) VSCs often overlook refugees' strengths; and (iv) cross-sectoral collaborations prove beneficial for VSCs. Spine disorders are the leading cause of disability worldwide. To promote social inclusion, it is essential to ensure that people can participate in their societies by improving their ability, opportunities, and dignity, through access to high-quality, evidence-based, and affordable spine services for all. Previous research has attempted to examine specific social aspects of the school inclusion of students with vision impairment, such as the development of social relationships with their teachers and peers and their participation in school activities. Based on Bronfenbrenner's ecological system theory, this article presents a socio-ecological model that aims to embrace the different elements of social inclusion in school. Considering the components of this socio-ecological model, the findings of an empirical study that examined the school engagement of adolescents with vision impairment and its effect on their social competence are presented. Thirty-seven adolescents, with and without vision impairment, aged 12–14 years, participated in this study. Adolescents were divided into three groups: adolescents with severe sight impairment (previously 'blindness'), adolescents with sight impairment (previously 'low vision') and sighted adolescents. Participants completed a questionnaire about their school engagement and disengagement, and their parents completed a quantitative scale about their children's social competence. There were no significant differences found between the three participant groups in terms of school engagement, disengagement and social competence. Neither school engagement nor disengagement was a significant predictor of social competence. The findings of this empirical study revealed remarkable similarities in school engagement and social competence between adolescents with and without vision impairment. These findings may also suggest that other clinical and social factors, independent of visual functioning, affect the school inclusion and social competence of adolescents with vision impairment. Overall, the socio-ecological model developed for the purposes of this research can lead to the development of evidence-based interventions that will aim to improve the social inclusion of adolescents with vision impairment. Furthermore, the rationale of the empirical study may promote further investigation of the critical role of promoting less-intrusive classroom interventions to facilitate the school inclusion of students with vision impairment. Athletic spaces are often perceived as unwelcoming by sexual minority (SM) athletes, contributing to disparities in sports persistence in early adulthood. Further examination of how SM navigate decisions about sports participation during the transition to college is needed to develop and maintain inclusive campus athletic offerings, including recreational sports. By analyzing interview data from 23 SM college students, we found that SM find supportive athletic community through important vetting of these spaces prior to initiation. SM look at two aspects of a program's makeup—its' values and visible diversity of its members—through one's own personal "vibe check" either in-person or online. SM men in particular look for gender "outsiders," as all-male spaces threaten their perceived safety. Among those who had previously dropped out of sports, finding mixed-gender teams through this vetting process provided promise for an eventual return to sport, highlighting the importance of recreational sports in engaging underrepresented groups of athletes.
