Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models are emerging as tools for assisting in diagnostic assessment of cardiovascular disease. Recent advances in image segmentation has made subject-specific modelling of the cardiovascular system a feasible task, which is particularly important in the case of pulmonary hypertension (PH), which requires a combination of invasive and non-invasive procedures for diagnosis. Uncertainty in image segmentation can easily propagate to CFD model predictions, making uncertainty quantification crucial for subject-specific models. This study quantifies the variability of one-dimensional (1D) CFD predictions by propagating the uncertainty of network geometry and connectivity to blood pressure and flow predictions. We analyse multiple segmentations of an image of an excised mouse lung using different pre-segmentation parameters. A custom algorithm extracts vessel length, vessel radii, and network connectivity for each segmented pulmonary network. We quantify uncertainty in geometric features by constructing probability densities for vessel radius and length, and then sample from these distributions and propagate uncertainties of haemodynamic predictions using a 1D CFD model. Results show that variation in network connectivity is a larger contributor to haemodynamic uncertainty than vessel radius and length.

This study performs parameter inference in a partial differential equations system of pulmonary circulation. We use a fluid dynamics network model that takes selected parameter values and mimics the behaviour of the pulmonary haemodynamics under normal physiological and pathological conditions. This is of medical interest as it enables tracking the progression of pulmonary hypertension. We show how we make the fluids model tractable by reducing the parameter dimension from a 55D to a 5D problem. The Delayed Rejection Adaptive Metropolis (DRAM) algorithm, coupled with constraint nonlinear optimization is successfully used to learn the parameter values and quantify the uncertainty in the parameter estimates. To accommodate for different magnitudes of the parameter values, we introduce an improved parameter scaling technique in the DRAM algorithm. Formal convergence diagnostics are employed to check for convergence of the Markov chains. Additionally, we perform model selection using different information criteria, including Watanabe Akaike Information Criteria.

- Abstract
The objective was to investigate the effects of auditory environments on postural balance during cognitive tasks. Nineteen individuals with intellectual disabilities, aged between 15 and 19, participated in the study. The assessment involved center of pressure (CoP) measurements on both firm and foam surfaces under open-eye (OE) and closed-eye (CE) conditions. During these assessments, participants were exposed to nature sounds and noise sounds while performing counting and verbal fluency tasks. The results showed that nature sounds on a firm surface under OE conditions during counting demonstrated a significant decrease in CoP values (p = 0.037), indicating improved postural balance. However, noise sounds on foam surfaces during counting and verbal fluency showed increased CoP values, reflecting impaired postural balance (p < 0.05). In conclusion, nature sounds on a firm surface with OE during counting improved postural balance. Conversely, noise sounds on foam surfaces during counting and verbal fluency tasks impaired postural balance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study uses a one dimensional fluid dynamics arterial network model to infer changes in hemodynamic quantities associated with pulmonary hypertension in mice. Data for this study include blood flow and pressure measurements from the main pulmonary artery for 7 control mice with normal pulmonary function and 5 hypertensive mice with hypoxia induced pulmonary hypertension. Arterial dimensions for a 21 vessel network are extracted from micro-CT images of lungs from a representative control and hypertensive mouse. Each vessel is represented by its length and radius. Fluid dynamic computations are done assuming that the flow is Newtonian, viscous, laminar, and has no swirl. The system of equations is closed by a constitutive equation relating pressure and area, using a linear model derived from stress-strain deformation in the circumferential direction assuming that the arterial walls are thin, and also an empirical nonlinear model. For each dataset, an inflow waveform is extracted from the data, and nominal parameters specifying the outflow boundary conditions are computed from mean values and characteristic time scales extracted from the data. The model is calibrated for each mouse by estimating parameters that minimize the least squares error between measured and computed waveforms. Optimized parameters are compared across the control and the hypertensive groups to characterize vascular remodeling with disease. Results show that pulmonary hypertension is associated with stiffer and less compliant proximal and distal vasculature with augmented wave reflections, and that elastic nonlinearities are insignificant in the hypertensive animal.

Given a K\"ahler fiber space $p:X\to Y$ whose generic fiber is of general type, we prove that the fiberwise singular K\"ahler-Einstein metric induces a semipositively curved metric on the relative canonical bundle $K_{X/Y}$ of $p$. We also propose a conjectural generalization of this result for relative twisted K\"ahler-Einstein metrics. Then we show that our conjecture holds true if the Lelong numbers of the twisting current are zero. Finally, we explain the relevance of our conjecture for the study of fiber-wise Song-Tian metrics (which represent the analogue of KE metrics for fiber spaces whose generic fiber has positive but not necessarily maximal Kodaira dimension)., Comment: v2: Title changed as the initial text is now split into two separate articles (authored by the same persons). The main results we obtain here are less general than their respective counterparts in the previous version, due to a gap in our arguments

In this article we are interested in the differential geometric properties of certain higher direct images of exterior powers of the sheaf of relative differentials twisted with a line bundle. We obtain explicit curvature formulas, especially in case where the said line bundle satisfies a natural curvature assumption. Several applications are obtained, including a proof of a result by Viehweg-Zuo in the context of a canonically polarized family of maximal variation., Comment: A few results and details added

SQUAT (Weight lifting) ,RESISTANCE training ,SOCCER training ,PHYSICAL training & conditioning ,CROSSOVER trials ,SPRINTING - Abstract
(1) Background: Enhancing repeated sprint ability (RSA) is critical to soccer performance. Post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) protocols, particularly those utilizing heavy resistance preloading, have shown promise in improving RSA. Yet, the optimal preloading intensity for amateur players is still unknown. This study investigated the effects of two PAPE protocols using different preloading intensities (85% and 90% of 1 RM back squat) on RSA. (2) Methods: A double-blind, randomized, two-period crossover design was used, and 18 amateur male players were included in this study. RSA was assessed using a 6 × 35 m sprint protocol with 10 s rest intervals (RAST). (3) Results: While the main effect of time significantly (p = 0.01, η
2 = 0.71) influenced performance decline across all groups, there was no significant (p = 0.65, η2 = 0.01) interaction between time and condition. Individual responses to PAPE varied, highlighting the importance of individual differences. Interestingly, the BS85% group exhibited a less pronounced decline in performance compared to the control group, while the BS90% group only showed significant differences in three sprint levels. (4) Conclusions: Our findings suggest that a lower preload of 85% of 1 RM may be as adequate as a higher preload of 90% of 1 RM in enhancing RSA in amateur soccer players. These results may indicate a potential fatigue-delaying effect of PAPE protocols and emphasize the importance of individualized approaches for optimizing PAPE strategies. - Abstract
There is a raising of concerns about the need to change environmental behaviours through economic and social activities. Education plays a significant role in this process, with schools enhancing the necessary behaviour adoption by youngsters and their community. Thus, the present study examines the relationship between different variables, such as sustainability (green public procurement, healthy food activity) and education (course, impact, interactive teaching methods/technology). We developed a survey regarding education for sustainable development (ESD), with five sections considering the referred variables. We applied it to 385 Romanian educators and teachers from kindergarten and primary school. An SEM model was formed to evaluate the relationship between the associated variables. The results showed that an organisation or school with a long-term plan incorporating green public procurement will positively stimulate initiatives that help the next generation adopt good eating habits. Moreover, this eco-sustainable approach affects the creation of interactive teaching methods and the courses and classes. Consequently, the changes in interactive methods will positively affect the overall impact. Nevertheless, the relationship between courses and impact was not significant. This means management decisions regarding green strategies can lead to a broader change in a school setting, fostering the ESD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mathematics - Algebraic Geometry - Abstract
The notion of 'slope rational connectedness' is introduced in the context of smooth orbifold pairs. The main result parallels the characterization of the rational connectedness of projective manifolds in terms of either the non-existence of holomorphic covariant tensors, or of absence of fibrations onto manifolds with pseudo-effective canonical bundle, or of existence of movable classes for which the minimal slope of the tangent bundle is positive. We then use this result to construct the `rational quotient map' in orbifold category., Comment: This paper has been withdrawn by the authors because superseded by arXiv:1607.07829

Mathematics - Algebraic Geometry - Abstract
In this article we consider log canonical pairs which are log-smooth. If the corresponding canonical bundle is pseudo-effective, then we show that any quotient of the orbifold cotangent bundle of the pair has a pseudo-effective determinant. One of the new ingredients in the proof is a generalization of the Bogomolov-McQuillan algebraicity criterion in the context of holomorphic foliations whose minimal slope with respect to a movable class is positive., Comment: Important revision

The paper begins with a short history of evolution of the garbage gathering vehicles, especially of the road vehicles after the world first war. The initial gathering of garbage has been made in great bins of the metallic container type or in small bins of plastic. To lift and unload today's bins into the body of special collecting trucks, planar linkages as manipulators are used, being endowed with gripper systems. Several kinematical schemes of type mono- and bi-mobile mechanisms are analyzed, these being driven with one and two linear actuators. The kinematical geometry of these planar manipulators is showed through the scale drawing of the kinematical scheme in the two lifting and unloading phases of the garbage bins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
