Introduction: Pharmacy education may be associated with stress due to the nature of its curriculum and expectations of high-quality services from students on graduation. This study evaluated perceived stress and its predictors, stressors, and coping strategies among undergraduate pharmacy students in northern Nigeria. Methods: This was a prospective longitudinal study conducted at three randomly selected pharmacy schools in northern Nigeria. The validated 10-item Perceived Stress Scale was used to assess participant stress at the beginning (Time1) and middle (Time2) of the semester. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, a paired sample t-test, point-biserial correlations, and multivariate linear regression at P Results: The stress scores at Time1 and Time2 of the 866 participants were 18.3 ± 6.0 and 19.3 ± 5.4, respectively. Most participants at both Time1 and Time2 had moderate stress (76.6% and 79.6%, respectively). The multivariate regression analyses revealed gender, marital status, year of study, and access to education funds as significant predictors of stress. Major stressors identified were academic-related (76.3%) and environment-related (24.6%). Time management (69.6%) and relaxation (46.1%) were the major coping strategies. Conclusions: Moderate stress was observed among the majority of participants. Identified predictors of stress, stressors, and coping mechanisms were similar to those previously reported in other countries. Although most pharmacy students adopt positive strategies to mitigate stress, pharmacy educators should further adopt holistic initiatives to help students reduce their stress.

Objective: We sought to determine prescribing patterns for opioid analgesia following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction among age- and gender-stratified adolescents in a nationally representative database. Design: A retrospective study. Setting: PearlDiver Patient Records. Patients, participants: Outpatient opioid claims within 30 days of surgery were extracted. The patients were defined into age groups 10-14 (“younger’) and 15-19 (“older”). A total of 1,139 patients were included in this study (536 female and 603 males) with 108 patients in the 10-14 age category and 1,034 patients in the 15-19 category. Main outcome measure(s): The primary study outcome measures the average number of opioid pills administered, average total morphine milligram equivalents (MMEs) prescribed, and the average prescription strength (MMEs/pill). Results: No difference was found in the average number of pills (p = 0.26) or normalized total MMEs (p = 0.312) prescribed by age group. Normalized total morphine equivalents per prescription was significantly lower in females than males (p = 0.005). Multivariate linear regression analysis demonstrated that increasing patient age was predictive of fewer total pills (p = 0.017), after accounting for gender. Conclusions: There are age- and gender-based disparities in prescription patterns for adolescent ACL reconstruction. Our findings indicate that patients in the older age group on average received fewer pills than the younger age group, which consequently trended toward receiving higher total MMEs prescribed. This suggests that surgeons may be inadvertently overprescribing in the younger cohort. Additional studies that account for concurrent factors should be conducted to observe potentially similar trends.

Backgrounds Myopia has become a global public health problem. Children with early onset of myopia are at particular risk of complications associated with myopia. Younger children and children with greater initial myopic refractive errors are at a greater risk of myopia progression. Therefore, it is essential to identify subjects at high risk of developing myopia to facilitate myopia prevention in the early stage, especially during the preschool period. The purpose of this study was to determine whether premyopia and myopia in preschool children can be predicted by easily obtainable parameters. Methods Data was collected in a population-based cohort. Comprehensive examinations included height, weight, refraction, axial length (AL), and corneal radius of curvature (CR), with a follow-up of 2 years. Parental myopia history was obtained from a questionnaire. Myopia was defined as spherical equivalent (SE) ≤ − 0.50 D. Premyopia was defined as − 0.50 D Results A total of 830 children (433 boys and 397 girls) were included (40.83 ± 3.43 months old at baseline). A significantly negative relationship was observed in the multivariate analysis between baseline AL, AL/CR, two myopic parents, and the future SE after adjusting for age and gender (coefficient = − 0.291, coefficient = − 5.791, coefficient = − 0.273, respectively, both p p p = 0.001) were associated with a higher risk of future onset of premyopia. From the nomogram, AL/CR was found to have the most enormous effect on survival. AIM Non-evidence-based practice and inappropriate paediatric fever management by care givers is common. The aim of this study was to survey a large sample of Australian parents and care givers utilising a validated Fever Management Tool, to determine the current knowledge, beliefs and attitudes of Australian care givers regarding fever management. METHODS This study employed a cross-sectional survey conducted via a third-party market research company. Univariate analysis of demographic factors and their influence on knowledge scores were tested. A multivariate linear regression model was specified using all available independent univariate predicators to determine the demographic factors influencing care givers fever knowledge. RESULTS Data from 1000 questionnaires were analysed. The participants' total knowledge scores were evenly distributed with a mean score of 15.4/29 correct answers in the True/False questionnaire, a median score of 16 and a standard deviation of 4.27. It highlighted that Australian care givers had poor knowledge in questions related to 'teething', 'physical cooling methods' and 'medication dosing'. Objectives National Baseline Health Research 2013 showed that there were 706,757 (0.4%) hyperthyroid patients in Indonesia. Hyperthyroidism is characterized by abnormal thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) which causes low TSH and high FT4 levels. Hyperthyroid patients have a decrease of serum iron levels due to acute phase reactions of hyperthyroidism. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between dietary iron intake and serum iron with TSH and FT4 levels in adult hyperthyroid patients. Methods This study was conducted in February–July 2020 at the Clinic of Magelang Health Research and Development Center. Sampling of this cross sectional study was based on inclusion criteria in order to obtain 50 adult hyperthyroid patients. Dietary iron intake was collected with 2 × 24 h dietary recall, serum iron was measured with colorimetric analysis, the levels of TSH and FT4 were measured by ELISA. The collected data were analyzed using Spearman correlation and multivariate linear regression with 95% confidence level. Results Deficiencies of dietary iron intake was found in 20 hyperthyroid patients (40%). Low serum iron levels were found in 10 hyperthyroid patients (20%). Spearman correlation analysis showed that dietary iron intake had a negative correlation with TSH (r=−0.294; p0.05), while serum iron didn’t associated with both TSH (r=0.110; p>0.05) and FT4 (r=0.142; p>0.05). Furthermore, regression analysis showed that dietary iron intake, serum iron, phytate, and thyrozol intake correlate with TSH levels (R square=0.193; p0.05). Conclusions Intake and serum of iron didn’t correlate with TSH and FT4 levels in adult hyperthyroid patients.

The current study examined the interrelationships among potentially relevant family and social factors associated with family health. A cross-sectional study was conducted by collecting demographic information from 432 families, including family typology, family life cycle (FLC), and social status as well as social support and stressful life events (SLEs), with self-perception of family health being measured as a dependent variable. Descriptive analysis of the sample and univariate and multivariate linear regression analyses were performed. Multivariate analyses showed that the FLC stage of families as launching centers, lower educational level of household heads, and impact of SLEs were negatively associated with family health, whereas adequate perceived social support and the number of close friends and relatives were positively associated with family health. Therefore, these factors must be considered by family nurses to promote family health and prevent family dysfunction.

BACKGROUND The relationship between trans-stenotic blood flow velocity differences and the cerebral venous pressure gradient (CVPG) in transverse sinus (TS) stenosis (TSS) has not been studied. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the hemodynamic manifestations of TSS and the relationship between trans-stenotic blood flow velocity differences and the CVPG. METHODS Thirty-three patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) or pulsatile tinnitus (PT) and TSS who had undergone diagnostic venography using venous manometry were included in the patient group. Thirty-three volunteers with no stenosis and symptoms were included in the control group. All the 2 groups underwent prospective venous sinus 4-dimensional (4D) flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The average velocity (Vavg) difference and maximum velocity (Vmax) difference between downstream and upstream of the TS in 2 groups were measured and compared. BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia is characterized by being a condition with complex symptomatic dimensions. Its prognosis is poor due to the impairment of multiple cognitive functions, which handicaps the adequate social, academic, or employment reintegration of the patient. Cognitive impairment refers to the loss of cognitive functions, specifically memory, attention, and speed of information processing. A wide range of cognitive functions is affected, particularly memory, attention, motor skills, executive function, and intelligence. METHODS: This study is a multivariate predictive conceptual framework study with a cross-sectional approach to 120 subjects at the Prof. Dr. M Ildrem Mental Hospital Medan in May 2020–July 2020 using a sample that is a consecutive sampling. The test conducted in this study consisted of a bivariate test and a multivariate linear regression test to determine the factors that were associated with the cognitive score. The measuring instrument used is the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) Ina. RESULTS: In the bivariate test, in gender variable (p = 0.644) and age variable (p = 0.255) were not statistically significant, so the variables were not included in the multivariate test. In marital status variable (p = 0.0001), type of antipsychotic (p = 0.193), income/month (p = 0.0001), length of education (p = 0.0001), length of illness (p = 0.0001), frequency hospital admission (p = 0.0001), duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) (p = 0.0001), positive and negative syndrome scale (PANSS) scale (p = 0.141), and negative PANSS scale (p = 0.0001) were found statistically significant for the total MoCA Ina score on the bivariate test. After multivariate linear regression testing, the statistically significant variables on the total MoCA Ina score were negative PANSS scale (p = 0.001), income/month (p = 0.0001), length of education (p = 0.001), length of illness (p = 0.0001), DUP (p = 0.028), and marital status (p = 0.0001). CONCLUSION: By knowing the factors related to the total score of MoCA Ina, it is expected that clinicians can be more careful in giving treatment interventions for people with schizophrenia who are at risk for cognitive impairment.

The current study aimed to assess the dietary salt intake in patients with CKD in Jiangsu province and investigate the relationship of urinary sodium excretion with blood pressure. A total of 800 patients with CKD stages 1–4 were recruited. All enrolled patients were asked to collect complete 24‐h urine specimen. At the same time, patient's demographic and laboratory data were recorded. The mean age was 47.45 ± 15.25 years old, including 423 men and 377 women. There was no significant difference in urinary sodium excretion among different stages of CKD (p = .748). This study revealed that the median urinary sodium excretion of all patients was 127.20 mmol/d (IQR 91.03–172.06), corresponding to a salt intake of 7.4 g/d. Background: Viral hepatitis is a deadly disease which can manifest as acute, chronic, hepatocellular carcinoma, and liver failure and responsible for 1.34 million deaths globally, a number comparable to deaths caused by tuberculosis and higher than those caused by HIV. Objectives: The goal of this survey was to find the vastness of different risk factors associated with Viral Hepatitis and to describe the connection between these risk and sociodemographic factors among adults in Sokoto-Nigeria. Methods: This cross-sectional survey was carried in nine local government areas in the state. A two-stage cluster sampling was utilized and adults who were living in the selected household were interviewed. A multivariate linear regression model was used to evaluate the relationship between sociodemographic indicators and different viral hepatitis risk factors. Results: Seven hundred and twenty eight respondents were recruited for this survey. Sharing nail cutters, body piercing, and razor blade use were the most pervasive risk factors among respondents. Males, married couples, respondents somewhere in the range of 27 and 40 years of age, and people with low educational achievement were more likely to be exposed to risk factors associated with Viral Hepatitis. Conclusion: The risk of viral hepatitis was moderately high among the survey subject. Consequently, explicit projects like forum, classes and persistent instruction on preventive measures for viral hepatitis ought to be custom fitted to these forums. These projects could be directed by government specialists like the Ministry of Health Sokoto and other support agencies and non-governmental organizations.

This study used two waves of data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) to investigate the association between social participation and depressive symptoms in carer-employees (CEs) and non-carer-employees (NCEs).Adopting Pearlin et al.'s stress model, multivariate linear regression was used to examine the relationships among carer role, social participation, and depressive symptoms in Canadian employees using the first two waves of CLSA data, while controlling for possible confounders.Higher levels of social participation were found to be associated with lower depressive symptoms in both waves. Social participation was found to moderate depressive symptoms for CEs when compared with NCEs in Wave 2 but not in Wave 1.The present study highlights the importance of social participation in reducing CEs' depressive symptoms. The findings provide support for innovative policy and intervention efforts to encourage and enhance social participation at work via carer-friendly workplace policies for CEs across Canada.RéSUMé: OBJECTIFS: Cette étude a utilisé deux vagues de données de l’Étude longitudinale canadienne sur le vieillissement (ÉLCV) pour étudier l’association entre la participation sociale et les symptômes dépressifs chez les employés soignants (ES) et les employés non soignants (ENS). MéTHODES: Adoptant le concept du modèle de stress de Pearlin et al., une régression linéaire multivariée a été utilisée pour examiner les relations entre le rôle de l’aidant, la participation sociale et les symptômes dépressifs chez les employés canadiens en utilisant les deux premières vagues de données de l’ÉLCV, tout en contrôlant leurs facteurs de confusion. RéSULTATS: Des niveaux plus élevés de participation sociale se sont avérés être associés à des symptômes dépressifs plus faibles de façon constante dans les deux vagues. Au fil du temps, la participation s’est avérée modérer les symptômes dépressifs pour les ES par rapport aux ENS dans la vague 2 mais pas dans la vague 1. CONCLUSION: La présente étude souligne l’importance de la participation sociale en ce qui concerne l’atténuation des symptômes dépressifs des ES. Les résultats appuient les efforts politiques et d’intervention visant à encourager et à améliorer la participation sociale au travail des ES partout au Canada.

Youth involved with the juvenile justice system are at an increased risk for developing internalizing symptoms. In accordance with ecological systems theory and Self‐Determination Theory, parental psychological control and emotion-related constructs, such as alexithymia (or difficulty processing emotions), are linked to internalizing symptoms. The present study aimed to provide preliminary evidence of these associations in a sample of youth in juvenile detention centers, by examining the unique variance accounted for by alexithymia total score and the dimensions of alexithymia (i.e., difficulties identifying feelings; difficulties communicating feelings) on anxiety and depression symptoms over and above the variance accounted for by psychological control. The sample included 111 youth (Mage = 15.5, SD = 1.38) in a juvenile detention facility in the Midwest. Multivariate linear regression models tested incremental validity to determine if the unique variance in the internalizing symptoms can be attributed to the addition of alexithymia constructs. Results showed that psychological control continued to be associated with depression symptoms, even after alexithymia total score and dimensions of alexithymia were added to the model. However, the link between psychological control and anxiety symptoms was attenuated when alexithymia constructs were added to the models. Alexithymia total score and difficulties identifying feels were significantly associated with internalizing symptoms and the addition of these constructs accounted for unique variance in the outcomes. Difficulties communicating feelings was not associated with internalizing symptoms. Findings provide evidence that alexithymia and dimensions of alexithymia are associated with internalizing symptoms even when controlling for variance attributed to psychological control.

Clinicopathological features and chemotherapy can influence the quality of life (QOL), women with ovarian cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the physical and functional well-being, and ovarian cancer-specific effects scores reported from QOL questionnaire among women with ovarian cancer at the time of in their initial diagnosis and access the scores trajectory of women receiving neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy. This prospective study used cross-sectional analysis at baseline and longitudinal analysis from baseline to 12-month post-chemotherapy. QOL was evaluated at the baseline, at sixth cycle and 12-month post-chemotherapy using FACT-O questionnaire. Clinicopathological features and chemotherapy regime were evaluated and tested for associations with QOL measures. Of the 38 women enrolled in this study, 27 (80.1%) completed the questionnaire for 12 months. Adequate knowledge is needed to make the correct decision regarding kidney transplantation. The purpose of this study was to measure the demographic, sociologic, economic, and cultural factors that may influence patients' decision-making regarding kidney transplantation and to explore patients' knowledge of renal replacement therapies. A total of 254 end-stage renal disease patients (predialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and hemodialysis) from 8 dialysis centers in eastern Hungary participated in our study. We developed a questionnaire that measures patients' knowledge of renal replacement therapies and the role of sociodemographic, economic, and cultural factors that may influence their knowledge. Factors influencing the knowledge scores were evaluated using a multivariate linear regression adjusted for 8 factors. We found a significant correlation between education level and knowledge score, where patients with greater education (greater than high school: β = 3.003; P.001; high school: β = 1.906; P.001) achieved higher knowledge scores than those without. Moreover, patients with a previous kidney transplant (β = -2.111; P.001) had greater knowledge in the field. Our study identified a risk group where targeted, personalized patient education is essential.

BACKGROUND We demonstrate a new formula to predict mean arterial pressure (MAP) using corrections of the key factors associated with the inaccuracy of the standard formula: heart rate (HR) and pulse pressure (PP). METHODS A total of 99 patients (50 men, 49 women; mean age 52.5 ± 10.3 years), who underwent elective coronary angiography, were enrolled in our study. The arterial pressure was measured in the aortic root. MAP was measured digitally by the area-under-the-pressure-time curve method. We evaluated the accuracy of four different formulas: the standard formula, the formula of Razminia et al., the formula of Meaney et al. and the combined formula. RESULTS PP coefficient deviation of the standard formula was negatively correlated with PP (R = -0,561, P < 0.001), and positively correlated with HR (R = 0,298, P = 0.003). Both R and R2 values of the combined formula were higher than previous formulas. Accuracy parameters of the combined formula [root mean square error (RMSE): 1.801 mmHg, mean square residuals (MSR): 3.244 mmHg2, Akaike information criterion (AIC): 401.4] were superior to the standard formula (RMSE: 1.902 mmHg, MSR: 3.620 mmHg2, AIC: 412.3), the formula of Razminia et al. (RMSE: 2.022 mmHg, MSR: 4.089 mmHg2, AIC: 424.3) and the formula of Meaney et al. (RMSE: 2.137 mmHg, MSR: 4.568 mmHg2, AIC: 435.3). In the multivariate linear regression analysis, the combined formula was the only method that independently predicts the measured MAP (beta = 0,990, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION The combined formula is superior to previous formulas for accurately predicting MAP.

Three cities were selected based on economic level. Subsequently, three counties and three villages were selected from each sample city and county. Finally, 30 respondents were selected from each sample village. Face-to-face surveys were conducted using a structured questionnaire between March and September 2017. Multiple linear regression was conducted to investigate the association between BIE and eight dimensions of EHBM: perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived self-efficacy, cues to action, health knowledge, and social support.Results: Of the 509 rural respondents aged 60 years and older, the average score of behavioral intention was 4.43± 0.80. Multivariate linear regression analysis demonstrated poor BIE among participants who were men, were current smoker, were current drinker, were aged 70 years or over, had lower social support, and perceived lower self-efficacy, less benefits, and more barriers. Among them, barriers were found to have the strongest association with BIE (B’=− 0.556; p< 0.001). Qualitative interviews revealed that reasons for not receiving periodic health examinations (PHE) included pain, cost, difficulty in finding a health care provider, time and scheduling, potential lack of trust in the physician, and value of the PHE.Conclusion: This study highlighted the importance of psychological variables in the acceptance of PHE among the elderly in rural China and provided insights for further intervention designs targeting identified groups and performed by general practitioners. Intrinsic factors such as leg length, arm length, flexibility and training history are factors that may be relevant to the optimisation of the individual bicycle configuration process. Bike fitting methods do not always take all these variables into account, and as yet there have been limited studies examining how these variables can affect the cyclist's position on the bicycle. The main aims of this study were to establish how individual anthropometrics, training history and flexibility may influence cyclists' freely chosen bicycle configuration, and to determine the full-body static flexion angles chosen by cyclists on the bicycle.Fifty well-trained male cyclists were recruited for the study. A multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to predict the four main configurations of a bicycle (saddle height, saddle setback, handlebar reach and handlebar drop) based on individual anthropometrics, flexibility and training history. Background The association between atrial fibrillation (Afib) and sinus and AV nodal dysfunction has previously been reported. However, no data are available regarding the association between Afib and bundle branch block (BBB). Methods Patient data were obtained from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) database between years 2009 and 2015. Patients with a diagnosis of Afib and BBB were identified using validated International Classification of Diseases, 9th revision, and Clinical Modification (ICD‐9‐CM) codes. Statistical analysis using the chi‐square test and multivariate linear regression analysis were performed to determine the association between Afib and BBB. Results The total number of patients with BBB was 3,116,204 (1.5%). Patients with BBB had a mean age of 73.5 ± 13.5 years, 53.6% were males, 39.1% belonged to the age group ≥80 years, and 72.9% were Caucasians. The prevalence of Afib was higher in the BBB group, as compared to the non‐BBB group (29% vs 11.8%, p value, This study demonstrates that prevalence of Afib is higher in patients with BBB than without BBB. Cost are higher for Afib patients with BBB, compared to those without BBB, with no significant increase in mortality or length of stay.

To assess the quality of life of keratoconus patients using the Keratoconus Outcomes Research Questionnaire (KORQ), translated and validated in Portuguese language. The KORQ is the only validated keratoconus specific questionnaire and has a high rating for its psychometric properties. This cross-sectional study enrolled 100 keratoconus patients from a tertiary referral eye hospital between April 2018 and June 2019. Associations between age, sex, allergic conjunctivitis, keratoconus stage, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), maximum simulated keratometry (Kmax), steep keratometry (K2), pachymetry, treatments performed, hydrops, and KORQ scores were evaluated using univariate (Wilcoxon test and the Kruskal Wallis test) and multivariate linear regression with stepwise backward modeling. Lower KORQ scores are associated with better quality of life, whereas, higher scores are associated with greater impairment of functional activities and symptoms. Among the 100 patients, mild, moderate, and severe keratoconus were observed in 15%, 46% and 39% of participants, respectively. Introduction In this study, we performed a consecutive macropathologic analysis to assess microscopic extension (ME) in high-grade glioma (HGG) to determine appropriate clinical target volume (CTV) margins for radiotherapy. Materials and methods The study included HGG patients with tumors located in non-functional areas, and supratotal resection was performed. The ME distance from the edge of the tumor to the microscopic tumor cells surrounding brain tissue was measured. Associations between the extent of ME and clinicopathological characteristics were evaluated by multivariate linear regression (MVLR) analysis. An ME predictive model was developed based on the MVLR model. Results Between June 2017 and July 2019, 652 pathologic slides obtained from 30 HGG patients were analyzed. The mean ME distance was 1.70 cm (range, 0.63 to 2.87 cm). The MVLR analysis identified that pathologic grade, subventricular zone (SVZ) contact and O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) methylation, isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation and 1p/19q co-deletion status were independent variables predicting ME (all P ME = 0.672 + 0.513XGrade + 0.380XSVZ + 0.439XMGMT + 0.320XIDH + 0.333X1p/19q. The R-square value of goodness of fit was 0.780. The receiver operating characteristic curve proved that the area under the curve was 0.964 (P Conclusion ME was heterogeneously distributed across different grades of gliomas according to the tumor location and molecular marker status, which indicated that CTV delineation should be individualized. The model could predict the ME of HGG, which may help clinicians determine the CTV for individual patients. Multivariate linear regression (MLR) models between the operating conditions and the performance parameters for the amination reaction of cyclohexanol (CHOL) with NH3 as aminating agent and in the presence of H2, using a commercial Ni-based catalyst, were established. The regressors were chosen according to a stepwise variable selection approach so that only significant and non-redundant input variables were selected. The obtained models (related to CHOL conversion and yields for the more relevant products) were statistically significant with good fittings. Moreover, the models also reveal to act as good predictors, by cross validation and external validation. Nevertheless, models fitted to cyclohexyldeneaniline (CHONE) formation still present opportunities for improvement, given their poorer prediction performance. Sensitivity analysis of the developed models confirm the tendencies observed by Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) indicating that the established relationships are able to translate the experimental observations. Therefore, the models can be used for process optimization purposes and scale-up methodologies.

OBJECTIVES People living with HIV (PLWH) have a high risk of kidney injury. Measurement of serum creatinine, along with proteinuria, is not sensitive to detect early kidney injury. Here, we investigated novel urinary biomarkers of early renal injury in PLWH. METHODS We performed a cross-sectional study of 166 antiretroviral-naive PLWH and 99 HIV-negative persons who all had an estimated glomerular filtration rate > 90 mL/min/1.73 m2 . We compared the levels of seven urinary biomarkers between the two groups using the propensity score matching (PSM) approach and explored the risk factors associated with elevated urinary biomarkers in PLWH. RESULTS Eighty-three pairs were successfully matched based on PSM. Compared with the HIV-negative group, the HIV-positive group had higher ratios of N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) to urine creatinine (UCr), alpha1-microglobulin (α1-M) to UCr, kidney injury marker-1 (KIM-1) to UCr, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin to UCr, and epidermal growth factor to UCr, whereas the Tamm-Horsfall protein to UCr ratio and the abnormal albumin to UCr ratio were not significantly different. Linear regression analysis is one the most common methods for weather-normalizing energy data, where energy versus degree-days is plotted, quantifying the impacts of outside temperature on buildings’ energy use. However, this approach solely considers dry-bulb temperature, while other climate variables are ignored. In addition, depending on buildings’ internal loads, weather impact can be less influential, making the linear regression method not applicable for energy data normalization in internally driven buildings (such as research laboratory buildings, healthcare facilities, etc.). In this study, several existing buildings from different categories, all located on the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus and exposed to the same weather conditions in a heating-dominated climate, were analyzed. For all cases, regression of monthly steam use on heating degree-days and floor-area normalized steam data were used, investigating applicability of the former when the latter changes. It was found that internal loads can skew steam consumption, depending on the building functionality, making the effect of degree-days negligible. For laboratory-type buildings, besides heating and domestic hot water production, steam is also used for scientific experiments. Here, daily occupancy percentage, even during weekends and holidays, was higher than that of other buildings, indicating the intensity of scientific experiments performed. This significantly impacted steam consumption, resulting in higher floor-area-normalized steam usage. In these cases, steam use did not provide an outstanding correlation to heating degree-days. Whereas, for cases with other functionality-types and lower floor-area normalized steam, coefficients of determination in regressions were high. This study concludes that even for buildings located in the same climate, depending on how building functionality and occupancy schedule influence floor-area normalized steam use, multivariate linear regression can provide more accurate analysis, rather than simple linear regression of steam on heating degree-days.

Background Determining factors for sufficient QRS amplitude and discernible P‐wave sensing in implantable loop recorder (ILR) are unknown. We aimed to investigate determining factors and ILR implantation angle that may improve QRS complex and P‐wave sensing in ILR. Methods We retrospectively reviewed 220 patients who underwent ILR implantation or follow‐up analysis. Patient demographic, clinical, echocardiography, electrocardiography, heart angle, and ILR angle data were collected as predictor variables. Associations between ILR QRS amplitude/P‐wave detectability and each predictor variable were investigated. Results Univariate linear regression showed that ILR QRS amplitude was significantly associated with age, height, ILR angle, and QRS amplitudes of 12‐lead electrocardiogram (ECG) (lead I, II, aVR [inverted aVR], aVF, V1–V6) and Holter ECG (lead V3, V5). The present study describes the application of artificial intelligence-based modeling approach to predict trihalomethanes in drinking water supplies. The samples were collected from five major water utilities located in five different states across India for two seasons to establish the baseline. Trihalomethane formation was correlated with various operation parameters and exceeded the prescribed guideline value of the World Health Organization and the Bureau of Indian Standard. Chloroform was found to be the most predominant compound > 90% contribution to total trihalomethanes. The seasonal variation assessment revealed that the trihalomethanes level was relatively 1.12 ± 0.074 times higher in pre-monsoon than post-monsoon. The correlation analysis confirmed, total organic carbon followed by dissolved organic carbon is a major organic precursor responsible for trihalomethane formation. Monitoring these compounds is essential to ensure public safety but cannot be regularly determined due to the involvement of sophisticated instruments and the procedure. The artificial intelligence-based modeling approach could prove to be a good tool for instant prediction of trihalomethanes with better accuracies. An artificial neural network and support vector machine was employed using Python® and MATLAB® respectively, whereas, for multivariate linear regression, SPSS® was used. The value of coefficient and comparison of performance data indicated that artificial neural networks gave the most promising results, followed by support vector machine and multivariate linear regression. The study could prove to be very useful for regulatory agencies to manage and control trihalomethanes' levels in drinking water supplies.

BACKGROUND: Depression is the most common psychiatric problem in the elderly. Suicidal thoughts or recurring thoughts of death are common in people suffering from depression. Depression in the elderly has a very poor prognosis compared to people in other age groups because they have a relatively higher risk of suicide and death. Elderly people in nursing homes is a condition that significantly affects the quality of life and survival and harms the psychology of the elderly, cause stress is due to elderly people in nursing homes associated with medical and psychosocial problems such as divorce/widows, poverty, and social isolation. AIM: We aimed to find out the factors that affect the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS 15) score in elderly people at the Social Service of the Dharma Asri Binjai Nursing Home. METHODS: This study used a cross-sectional approach to 91 subjects at the Dharma Asri Binjai Nursing Home Social Service starting from June to July 2020 utilizing sampling, namely, simple random sampling. The tests conducted in this study consisted of a bivariate test and a multivariate linear regression test to determine which factors are associated with depression. The measuring instrument used was the GDS 15. RESULTS: After the multivariate test was carried out, the variables that were statistically significant to the total score of depression in the elderly at the Binjai Dharma Asri nursing home were Gender (p < 0.001) and activity of daily living (ADL) Score (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The factors associated with the GDS score of 15 and the occurrence of depression in the elderly were found in the gender variable and the ADL score variable.

Multivariate data is collected in many fields, such as chemometrics, econometrics, financial engineering and genetics. In multivariate data, heteroscedasticity and collinearity occur frequently. And selecting material predictors is also a key issue when analyzing multivariate data. To accomplish these tasks, multivariate linear regression model is often constructed. We thus propose row-sparse elastic-net regularized multivariate Huber regression model in this paper. For this new model, we proof its grouping effect property and the property of resisting sample outliers. Based on the KKT condition, an accelerated proximal sub-gradient algorithm is designed to solve the proposed model and its convergency is also established. To demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency, simulation and real data experiments are carried out. The numerical results show that the new model can deal with heteroscedasticity and collinearity well.

Objective This study aimed to investigate associations between personal values and work engagement among workers. Methods This cross-sectional study used data from the Japanese Study on Stratification, Health, Income, and Neighborhood (J-SHINE) in 2010 and 2017. Personal values were measured by 11 value priorities and by commitment to these values. Multivariate linear regression analyses were conducted to determine the associations between personal values and work engagement. Results A total of 1,946 workers were analyzed. Four personal values (e.g., "Improving society") and commitment to values were significantly positively associated with work engagement, while "Graduating from a famous school" was significantly negatively associated. Conclusions Some personal values relate to openness to change, self-transcendence, and self-enhancement, and commitment to values showed associations with work engagement. It could be beneficial to consider personal values to enhance work engagement.

Background This study aimed to investigate the associations of sarcopenia and its defining components with cognitive function in community-dwelling oldest old (over 80 years old) in China. Methods Sarcopenia was diagnosed by the 2019 Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) criteria. Cognitive function was evaluated by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Logistic and linear regression models were used to explore the associations of sarcopenia and its defining components with risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and performance on multiple cognitive domains among 428 adults aged 80 years and older. Results The overall prevalence of sarcopenia was 35.5%, with 40.34% for men and 32.14% for women. The prevalence of MCI was higher among sarcopenic oldest old than non-sarcopenic oldest old (28.95% vs. 17.39%, p = 0.005). Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that sarcopenia [odds ratio (OR) = 1.86, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.04–3.33], low handgrip strength (HS) [OR = 2.33, 95% CI: 1.40–3.87] and slow gait speed (GS) [OR = 2.31, 95% CI: 1.13–4.72] were significantly and independently associated with risk of MCI. Multivariate linear regression analyses showed that low HS was associated with worse performance in global cognitive function, visuospatial and executive function, naming and delayed recall. Conclusions Sarcopenia, low HS and low GS was significantly associated with MCI in community-dwelling oldest old. The associations between sarcopenia and its defining components with different cognitive subdomains could be further explored in the future.

Background In the trauma center wards, it is not unusual for patients to have sleep disorders, especially patients with an acute injury. Meanwhile, there is substantial evidence that sleep disorder is a predictor of depression and is an important feature of posttraumatic stress disorder. Methods All orthopedic trauma patients confined in a trauma ward in West China Hospital of Sichuan University between April 2018 and July 2019 were included in this retrospective study. Patients with mental impairment or craniocerebral injuries were excluded from the study. Basic demographic data and the Injury Severity Score (ISS) classification based on medical records were collected. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) was used to evaluate sleep quality, the visual analog scale (VAS) was used to evaluate physical pain, and the Barthel Index (BI) was used to evaluate activities of daily living (ADL). Univariate linear regression analysis and multivariate linear regression analysis were used to identify independently related factors. Results The average PSQI score was 6.3 (± 4.0). A total of 581 (51.4%) patients had a PSQI score > 5, indicating the presence of sleep disorders. The PSQI score was > 10 in 174 (15.4%) patients. Univariate statistical analysis showed that age, sex, education, ADL, and ISS classification were associated with increased PSQI scores. Marital status and pain were not associated with increased PSQI scores. When we used multivariate analysis to control for confounding variables, sex, ADL, and ISS classification remained independently associated with PSQI (P = 0.002, < 0.000, and 0.002, respectively). Conclusions In our study, sleep disorders were common (51.4% with PSQI > 5) and serious (15.4% with PSQI > 10) in patients with traumatic orthopedic injury. The following factors were closely associated with sleep disorders: sex, ADL, and ISS classification. Moreover, age and educational attainment have an independent impact on sleep quality. Unexpectedly, the VAS score for pain was not independently associated with the seriousness of sleep quality, which may be related to preemptive and multimodal analgesia. Further studies are required to clarify this ambiguity.

Purpose To evaluate the association between daily coffee consumption and intraocular pressure (IOP) in healthy persons without glaucoma and the association between daily coffee consumption and history of glaucoma. Design Cross-sectional study. Participants A total of 9850 individuals participated in the first follow-up of the Nagahama Prospective Cohort for Comprehensive Human Bioscience (the Nagahama Study) conducted between 2013 and 2016. Methods All participants underwent a standardized ophthalmic examination. Self-reporting questionnaires were completed by all participants. First, the association between habitual coffee consumption and IOP among nonglaucoma individuals was evaluated by a multivariate linear regression analysis, adjusting for possible confounders. Second, the association between habitual coffee consumption and history of glaucoma also was evaluated using a multivariate logistic regression analysis. Main Outcome Measures The association between habitual coffee consumption and IOP among nonglaucoma individuals. Results Of 9850 participants, 9418 did not have history of glaucoma. Among these participants, the mean ± standard deviation IOP of both eyes was 14.7 ± 2.9 mmHg. The multivariate regression analysis revealed that habitual coffee consumption was associated significantly with IOP (P Conclusions Frequent coffee consumption was associated with a slightly lower IOP in people without glaucoma but was not associated with a decreased risk of glaucoma developing. Additional experimental studies are needed to examine the effects of coffee on IOP and glaucoma risk.

Background The atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) always remains in a potential association with arterial stiffness, however, this association has not been fully discovered and needs to be studied in depth in large hypertensive patient populations. The present analysis thus sought to further explore the association that exists between AIP and arterial stiffness in Chinese patients diagnosed with arterial hypertension. Methods This cross-sectional study analyzed 4744 Chinese individuals with essential hypertension. AIP was defined as the base 10 logarithm of the ratio of plasma of triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels indicated in molar concentrations. Measurement of arterial stiffness was carried out via brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV). Results Data were adjusted for potential confounding variables, and multivariate linear regression analysis revealed AIP to be positively correlated with baPWV (β = 1.34, 95% CI: 0.96 to 1.72, P 2 (P for interaction Conclusion AIP and arterial stiffness were positively correlated in essential hypertension patients in China, especially in those with a BMI 2. Introduction: Adopting health-promoting lifestyle might be affected by a variety of factors. The existing evidence suggests that social support can improve health by fulfilling physical and mental needs. This study aimed to investigate the association between social support and health-promoting lifestyle in Pregnancy. Methods: Using multistage cluster sampling method, this cross-sectional study was conducted on 360 pregnant women. Data were collected using three questionnaires, including a self-reported demographic and obstetric, health-promoting lifestyle profile and perceived social support questionnaires. Data were analyzed using a t-test, repeated measures ANOVA, and multivariate linear regression model with SPSS software ver. 21 with. Results: The mean (SD) of health-promoting behaviors was 135.21(20.03). Amongst the different dimensions of health-promoting behaviors, the highest mean was detected in spiritual growth 26.84 (4.90) and nutrition 26.17 (4.22), respectively. Meanwhile, the lowest scores were detected in sub-domains of stress management 19.80 (3.78) and physical activity 16.71(4.14), respectively. The mean (SD) of perceived social support was 60.31 (14.75), and 51.7% of the participants had intermediate social support. Results indicated a significant difference between the mean score of Health-Promoting Lifestyle at different levels of social support. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between endogenous testosterone concentrations and lean mass and handgrip strength in healthy, pre-menopausal females. Testosterone has been positively associated with lean mass and strength in young and older males. Whether this relationship exists in pre-menopausal females is unknown. Secondary data from the 2013–2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were used to test this relationship. Females were aged 18–40 (n = 716, age 30 ± 6 years, mean ± SD) and pre-menopausal. Multivariate linear regression models were used to examine associations between total testosterone, lean mass index (LMI) and handgrip strength. Mean ± SD testosterone concentration was 1.0 ± 0.6 nmol L−1 and mean free androgen index (FAI) was 0.02 ± 0.02. In pre-menopausal females, testosterone was not associated with LMI (β = 0.05; 95%CI − 0.04, 0.15; p = 0.237) or handgrip strength (β = 0.01; 95%CI − 0.11, 0.12; p = 0.926) in a statistically significant manner. Conversely, FAI was associated with LMI (β = − 0.03; 95%CI − 0.05, − 0.02; p = 0.000) in a quadratic manner, meaning LMI increases with increasing FAI levels. Handgrip strength was not associated with FAI (β = 0.06; 95%CI − 0.02, 0.15; p = 0.137). These findings indicate that FAI, but not total testosterone, is associated with LMI in pre-menopausal females. Neither FAI nor total testosterone are associated with handgrip strength in pre-menopausal females when testosterone concentrations are not altered pharmacologically.

Of these, 114 participants (mean age 82.0 [± 9.5] years, 77.2% women) were available for the following tests at baseline and six months later: a comprehensive examination of dental and general health, a two-colour mixing-ability test (to assess chewing efficiency), the Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI; to evaluate the OHRQoL), and the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE; to diagnose the presence and severity of dementia). Univariate and multivariate linear regression models were compiled to analyse possible factors affecting OHRQoL.Results: For the final analysis, 108 participants were available. For the study cohort as a whole, a decrease in the number of functional occluding pairs (C: 0.195; p = 0.034) and an increase in dental-treatment needs (C: − 1.968; p = 0.056) had the greatest negative effects on OHRQoL as expressed by the GOHAI score. For denture wearers, a deterioration of denture condition (C: − 2.946; p = 0.003) was the most important predictor for a decline in OHRQoL.Conclusion: A short-term decline in oral health and function affects the OHRQoL of nursing-home residents. Aim: This research aims to define equities determinants in maternal and child care in Punjab, a Pakistan province. The study focuses on the impact on Reproductive/ Maternal/ Newborn/ Child Adolescent Health (RMNCAH), introduced in 2016 through the Investment Case (IC) approach. Methodology: A complex-sample-analysis modified the weight of the sample. Weighted disaggregated data were produced by cross-tableting with Confidence Interval (CI). A DiD analysis was performed based on a linear model of regression. Finally, the effect of the involvement was calculated by multivariate linear regression. Principal Findings: The results show that changes had been measured in both the involvement and reference areas in involvement and no significant associations in the variables. Changes in involvement and contrast areas were similar. Also, there was no substantial improvement in aggregate outcomes from the multivariable regression analysis. In most developing countries, the IC approach is successful. Following the IC's introduction, some MNCH indicators such as ANC and the delivery of expert delivery of assistant birth showed improvements in involvement and contrast districts. In this paper, we present recent results in the context of multivariate linear regression models considering that random errors follow multivariate skew scale mixtures of normal distributions. This class of distributions includes the scale mixtures of multivariate normal distributions, as special cases, and provides flexibility in capturing a wide variety of asymmetric behaviors. We implemented the algorithm ECM (Expectation/Conditional Maximization) and we obtained closed-form expressions for all the estimators of the parameters of the proposed model. Inspired by the ECM algorithm, we have developed an influence diagnostics for detecting influential observations to investigate the sensitivity of the maximum likelihood estimators. To examine the performance and the usefulness of the proposed methodology, we present simulation studies and analyze a real dataset.

Aim To investigate risk factors associated with halitosis in children using OralChroma™. Materials and methods Sixty-seven children between the ages of 3 and 8 who attended a pre-general anesthesia assessment at the Dental University Hospital at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, were enrolled in this study after satisfying the inclusion criteria. Demographic data, medical history, and oral hygiene practices were obtained by a standardized questionnaire completed by the parents of each child. Clinical dental examination was conducted to record the following: caries index (dmft/DMFT), simplified debris index (DI-S), modified gingival index (MGI), and Winkel tongue coating index (WTCI). Clinical halitosis was assessed using the OralChroma™ device that measures the concentration of volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) including hydrogen sulfide (H2S), methyl mercaptan (CH3SH), and dimethyl sulfide (CH3SCH3). Statistics were completed using Spearman's correlation coefficient and Mann-Whitney U-test to assess the association with the VSC scores with continuous and binary variables, respectively. Then, multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to detect the degree of association. Results High VSC measures were detected in 58 children (87%). The dmft/DMFT was significantly associated with H2S level (β = 26.84, p = 0.034) and CH3SH level (β = 19.96, p = 0.016) after controlling possible confounders. There was no significant association of DI-S, MGI, and WTCI with the VSC measures. Conclusion The result suggested that dmft/DMFT score (children's caries experience) is associated significantly with high levels of H2S and CH3SH in the sample studied. Clinical significance Caries experience in children is a significant risk factor for halitosis and should be considered during the management of halitosis.

Vegetation coverage and its dynamic response to climatic ecologic indicators are critical for the monitoring and management of terrestrial ecosystem. This paper aims to investigate the spatial and temporal variations and relationships between vegetation coverage and climatic factors during the growing season for the period of 2000–2017 in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei metropolitan region (BTH) of China, using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and related climate data. The multivariate linear regression model (MLR), support vector regression model (SVR), and gradient boosting regression tree model (GBRT) were applied to explore the predictability of NDVI, using climatic factors as predictors. The results showed that the mean NDVI during growing season has significantly increased in the BTH over the past 18 years, with about 66% of the total vegetation cover in the study area evidencing increasing trends. Significant increasing trends were mainly located in the northwest mountainous regions and southeastern plains, and the trends significantly decreased in big cities and the surroundings. The precipitation during growing season and summer has increased. However, no significant trend of the temperature was detected during growing season. NDVI was mainly positively correlated with precipitation at about 85.8% area of the BTH and negatively correlated with temperature during summer. Precipitation and temperature were the dominant influencing factors for vegetation growth in BTH, and therefore these factors were used as potential predictors to estimate NDVI during growing season. The comparative results of three prediction models showed that the prediction accuracy of GBRT was higher than other two models, indicating that it should be applicable to use GBRT model to predict the NDVI in the study area.

Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is being increasingly studied as an indicator of wellbeing. This study evaluated the HRQoL of nursing students and relationships between lifestyle behaviors including smoking, diet, alcohol intake and physical activity. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2018 using the Short-Form 12V2 to measure the HRQoL of 475 students from both regional and metropolitan universities in Queensland, Australia. z-scores were aggregated into a Physical Composite Score (PCS) and a Mental Composite Score (MCS). Multivariate linear regression was used to explore the associations. Nursing students (94.5% female) had lower HRQoL scores relative to the general Australian population. Students enrolled at the regional university, with higher income; higher intakes of vitamin A, calcium, and iodine; and more physical activity had a higher Mental Composite Score, but those with health conditions and high intakes of meat, fat, carbohydrates, and sugar reported lower Physical Composite Score compared to their counterparts. Skipping breakfast, physical inactivity, and alcohol score were inversely associated with HRQoL. This study highlights the need for strategies to address the poor lifestyle and HRQoL in nursing students to support their physical and mental health.

Background: A valid, reliable, accessible, engaging, and affordable digital cognitive screen instrument for clinical use is in urgent demand. Objective: To assess the clinical utility of the MemTrax memory test for early detection of cognitive impairment in a Chinese cohort. Methods: The 2.5-minute MemTrax and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) were performed by 50 clinically diagnosed cognitively normal (CON), 50 mild cognitive impairment due to AD (MCI-AD), and 50 Alzheimer’s disease (AD) volunteer participants. The percentage of correct responses (MTx-% C), the mean response time (MTx-RT), and the composite scores (MTx-Cp) of MemTrax and the MoCA scores were comparatively analyzed and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves generated. Results: Multivariate linear regression analyses indicated MTx-% C, MTx-Cp, and the MoCA score were significantly lower in MCI-AD versus CON and in AD versus MCI-AD groups (all with p≤0.001). For the differentiation of MCI-AD from CON, an optimized MTx-% C cutoff of 81% had 72% sensitivity and 84% specificity with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.839, whereas the MoCA score of 23 had 54% sensitivity and 86% specificity with an AUC of 0.740. For the differentiation of AD from MCI-AD, MTx-Cp of 43.0 had 70% sensitivity and 82% specificity with an AUC of 0.799, whereas the MoCA score of 20 had 84% sensitivity and 62% specificity with an AUC of 0.767. Conclusion: MemTrax can effectively detect both clinically diagnosed MCI and AD with better accuracy as compared to the MoCA based on AUCs in a Chinese cohort.

Study DesignRetrospective clinical study.PurposeTo describe postoperative height changes and identify the predictive factors of spinal height (SH) changes among patients with adult spinal deformity (ASD) who underwent circumferential lumbar fusion with instrumentation.Overview of LiteraturePostoperative height changes remain an important issue after spinal fusion surgery that affects the overall satisfaction with surgery. Previous studies of postoperative height change have focused exclusively on young patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS).MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed the clinical and imaging data of ASD patients who underwent lumbar corrective circumferential fusion of ≥3 levels (n=106). SH was defined as the vertical distance between C2 and S1 on a standing lateral image. As potential predictors of postoperative height change, the number of lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) levels, change in spino-pelvic parameters, total number of levels fused, and pedicle subtraction osteotomies (PSO) were documented. Univariate and multivariate linear regression analyses were performed to identify the predictors of postoperative height change.ResultsThe mean SH change was −2.39±50.8 mm (range, −160 to 172 mm). The univariate analyses showed that the number of LLIF levels (coefficient=10.9, p=0.03), the absolute coronal vertical axis change (coefficient=0.6, p=0.01), and the absolute Cobb angle change (coefficient=−0.9, p=0.03) were significant predictors for height change. Patients with PSOs (n=14) tended to have a shorter height postoperatively (coefficient=−26.1); however, this difference was not significant (p=0.07). Multivariate analyses conducted with variables of pp=0.04, R2=0.11).ConclusionsUtilizing a modified definition of SH used in previous AIS studies, we demonstrated that patients with ASD lose SH postoperatively and that PT change was an independent contributor of SH change.

AIM: To investigate the distribution of intraocular pressure (IOP) and its relationship with refractive error and other factors in university students from Anyang, China. METHODS: A university-based study was conducted. Subjects were invited to complete ophthalmic examinations, including visual acuity, noncontact tonometry (NCT), cycloplegic autorefraction, and ocular biometry. Univariable and multivariable analyses were used to evaluate the associations between IOP and other factors. Only data from right eyes were used in analysis. RESULTS: A total of 7720 subjects aged 16 to 26 years old were included, and 2834 (36.4%) of the participants were male. BackgroundNational, regional and global trends in prevalence of infertility indicate its public health importance, however it effects various life dimensions of individuals and couples as well. Lifestyle habits may counteract with these factors. The aim of the study was the multicausal analysis of psychosocial and lifestyle factors undergoing assisted reproductive therapy (ART) with special regard to pre-treatment habitual physical activity (PA).MethodsIn a cross-sectional, observational cohort study on ART patients (N = 60, age 34.6 ± 5.2 years, BMI 24.2 ± 4.9 kg/m2) with follow up on outcome measures a detailed description was given on PA patterns (ActriGraph GT3X, GPAQ-H) and on general and infertility related distress (BDI-13, FPI).ResultsRespondents reported normal mood state (BDI-13) but moderately high infertility-related distress (FPI) in Social- and very high distress in Sexual Concern. It was revealed that time spent with recreational PA (RPA) could counteract with infertility-related distress (Social ConcernR = -0.378,p = 0.013; Relationship ConcernR = -0.365,p = 0.019).In the presence of clinical pregnancy GPAQ-H RPA MET was significantly higher (p = 0.048), in the non-pregnant group cumulative values and work-related PA were higher. Correlations could be found between RPA time and the number of oocytes (R = 0.315,p = 0.045), matured oocytes (R = 0.339,p = 0.030) and embryos (R = 0.294,p = 0.062) by women who reached at least 150 min RPA (GPAQ-H). Multivariate linear regression revealed that the number of oocytes was positively influenced by the GPAQ-H recreation MET (R2 = 0.367; F = 10.994,p = 0.004; B = 0.005,p = 0.004, B Constant = 4.604). Regarding the number of embryos (R2 = 0.757,F = 17.692,p p p = 0.038). It was disclosed (R2 = 0.958,F = 408.479,p p ≤ 0.001). However, time spent with moderate PA (GPAQ-H) (B = 0.002, SE = 0.001, Wald = 3.944,p = 0.047, OR = 1.002) was significantly associated with live births.ConclusionsAmount of PA alone did not have a positive effect on outcome of ART. Type and intensity seemed to be more significant. Existing differences in response to infertility due to recreational PA suggest the importance of the development of a specific intervention. The robust overestimation of PA in self-reports highlights the need to improve physical literacy of women undergoing ART.

Background Length of stay (LOS) is an important measure of quality; however, estimating LOS for rare populations such as gastroschisis is problematic. Our objective was to identify explanatory variables for LOS and build a model to estimate LOS in neonates with simple gastroschisis. Methods In 73 neonates with simple gastroschisis (47% female, 67% White), statistical correlations for 31 potential explanatory variables for LOS were evaluated using multivariate linear regression. Poisson regression was used to estimate LOS in predetermined subpopulations, and a life table model was developed to estimate LOS for simple gastroschisis. Results Female sex (−2.4 d), “time to silo placement” (0.9 d), total parenteral nutrition days (0.6 d), need for any nasogastric feedings (11.4 d) and at discharge (−7 d), “feeding tolerance” (0.4 d), days to first postoperative stool (−0.3 d), and human milk exposure (−3.4 d) associated with LOS in simple gastroschisis. Estimated LOS for preterm neonates was longer than term infants (5.4 versus 4.6 wk) but similar for estimates based on sex and race. Based on these associations, we estimate that >50% of neonates with simple gastroschisis will be discharged by hospital day 35. Conclusions We identified several associations that explained variations in LOS and developed a novel model to estimate LOS in simple gastroschisis, which may be applied to other rare populations.

INTRODUCTION Predictors of financial costs related to total joint arthroplasty (TJA) have become increasingly important becuase payment methods have shifted from fee for service to bundled payments. The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between preoperative opioid use and cost of care in primary TJA. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted in Medicare patients who underwent elective unilateral primary total knee or hip arthroplasty between 2015 and 2018. Preoperative opioid usage, comorbidities, length of stay, and demographic information were obtained from chart review. The total episode-of-care (EOC) cost data was obtained from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services based on Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Initiative Model 2, including index hospital and 90-day postacute care costs. Patients were grouped based on preoperative opioid usage. Costs were compared between groups, and multivariate linear regression analyses were performed to analyze whether preoperative opioid usage influenced the cost of TJA care. Analyses were risk-adjusted for patient risk factors, including comorbidities and demographics. RESULTS A total of 3,211 patients were included in the study. Of the 3,211 TJAs, 569 of 3,211 patients (17.7%) used preoperative opioids, of which 242 (42.5%) only used tramadol. EOC costs were significantly higher for opioid and tramadol users than nonopioid users ($19,229 versus $19,403 versus $17,572, P < 0.001). Multivariate regression predicted that the use of preoperative opioids in TJA was associated with increased EOC costs by $789 for opioid users (95% confidence interval [CI] $559 to $1,019, P < 0.001) and $430 for tramadol users (95% CI $167 to $694, P = 0.001). Total postacute care costs were also increased by 70% for opioid users (95% CI 44% to 102%, P < 0.001) and 48% for tramadol users (95% CI 22% to 80%, P < 0.001). DISCUSSION This study demonstrated that preoperative opioid usage was associated with higher cost of care in TJA. Limiting preoperative opioid use for pain management before TJA could contribute to cost savings within a bundled model.
