School bullying and cyberbullying are serious public health problems that negatively affect the lives of school-aged children. We examined the correlation between risk behaviors and lack of resiliency factors with bullying and cyberbullying across seven Mediterranean countries. The sample consisted of 33,399 adolescents (51.1% girls) aged 11, 13, and 15 years who participated in the Health Behavior in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey in 2018 in Greece, Israel, Italy, Macedonia, Malta, Portugal, and Spain. Bivariate logistic regressions were conducted to test the relationship between risk behaviors, resilience, and bullying. All risk behaviors and lack of resiliency factors examined were related to involvement in bullying as a victim, perpetrator, or bully-victim, both in school and cyberbullying. Moreover, the odds of involvement in school bullying and cyberbullying increased as the number of risk behaviors and the lack of resiliency factors grew. To investigate whether morphokinetic parameters differ between male and female embryos in IVF embryos resulting in live births, a retrospective cohort study was undertaken. Files of all live births resulting from a single embryo transfer (SET) cultured in time-lapse incubators between 2013 and 2019 in two tertiary care centres were reviewed. The study group consisted of 187 SETs resulted in 187 live births, of which 100 were females (53.5%) and 87 were males (46.5%). Embryo selection for transfer was based on the known implantation data (KID) score provided by the Embryoscope and morphological assessment by experienced embryologists. Neonatal sex was confirmed through live birth documentation. Morphokinetic parameters and day 3 and day 5 KID scores of male and female embryos were compared. Maternal baseline and treatment characteristics were similar between groups. Morphokinetic time-lapse parameters of male and female embryos including: pronuclei fading; cleavage timings (t2-t9); second and third cell cycle durations; synchrony of the second and third cleavages; late morphokinetic parameters and KID scores did not differ between groups. In conclusion, time-lapse morphokinetic parameters and embryo selection methods do not seem to differ between male and female embryos, and their utilization does not bias towards any neonatal sex. This article is the first study that researches the combination of three components: humour, food and fashion. It is based on an analysis of three unique fashion shows whose designer is the American Jeremy Scott; two under his brand, and the third as an art director for the Italian brand Moschino. The three shows connect these three components, while presenting the culmination of a food-humour theme in contemporary fashion, which had started with Moschino’s brand founder, Franco Moschino, in the nineties. Combining food and fashion is relevant in contemporary culture as it compares consumption of fast food to that of fast fashion. The link between laughter and food is ancient. A few days after birth, there are buds of a smile on a baby’s face, expressing its satisfaction with food. Smiles and even laughter often occur throughout a person’s life in the context of delicious food. The uniqueness of the above-mentioned fashion shows is not humour in itself, but rather its combination with food and fashion, the two seemingly different. The combination of these three components creates a cognitive challenge for the fashion spectators. We thus argue that this threesome constitutes an important, creative breakthrough in fashion. One of humour’s important functions is to challenge social, cultural and aesthetic norms. As thus it has been infiltrated into fashion shows since the 1980s, as a norm-breaker, but also as a marketing strategy. This article discusses the cultural function of food and humour in fashion shows, from a cultural semiotic methodology.

This study examined the effects on intake, diurnal rumen pH changes, rumination and digestibility of feeding ruminally cannulated non-lactating cows in a Latin square design (four cows×four periods) with four total mixed rations (TMRs) typical for lactating cows. TMRs were based on: long wheat hay or short wheat hay, wheat silage or wheat silage+1.5% NaHCO3 buffer, as the sole roughage source (30% of TMR dry matter (DM)). The level of physically effective NDF remaining above the 8 mm screen (peNDF) was similar in the long hay and silage-based TMRs (9.45% to 9.64% of DM) and lower in the short hay TMR (7.47% of DM). The four TMRs were offered individually at 95% of ad libitum intake to avoid orts within 24 h. Cows fed long hay consumed less DM than the short hay and silage groups (9.6 v. 10.5 and 10.8 kg/day, respectively) and sorted against large hay particles at 12 h post-feeding. The objective of this study was to evaluate in lactating cows the effect of either chopping or ensiling of wheat roughage on: intake, digestibility, lactation performance and animal behavior. Three groups of 14 lactating cows each, were fed total mixed rations (TMRs) based on either long wheat hay (HL), short wheat hay (HS) or wheat silage (SI), as the sole roughage source (30% of TMR dry matter (DM)). Parameters examined: sorting behavior, DM intake, milk yield and composition, rumination, recumbence, average daily rumen pH, digesta passage rate, and in-vivo digestibility. Performance data was summarized by day and analyzed using a proc-mixed model. The content of physically effective neutral detergent fiber (peNDF) was similar in the HL and SI and lower in the HS, resulting in similar differences among the three corresponding TMRs. In vitro DM digestibility of wheat silage was higher than that of the two hays (65.6% v. 62.8%) resulting in higher in vitro DM digestibility of the SI-TMR compared with the hay-based TMRs (79.3 v. 77.0%). HS-TMR was better than HL- or SI-TMRs at preventing feed sorting by cows after 12 or 24 h eating of the diets. Cows fed HS-TMR consumed more DM and NDF but less peNDF than the other two groups. Average daily rumen pH was similar in the three groups, but daily rumination time was highest in the cows fed HS-TMR. Rumen retention time was longest in cows fed HL-TMR. DM digestibility in cows fed SI-TMR was higher than that of HS and HL groups (65.2%, 61.8% and 62.4%, respectively), but NDF digestibility was similar in the three treatments. The highest intake of digestible DM was observed in cows fed SI-TMR, HS cows were intermediate and HL cows were the lowest. Consequently, cows fed SI-TMR had higher yields of milk, 4% fat corrected milk and energy-corrected milk (47.1, 42.9 and 43.2 kg/day, respectively) than cows fed HS-TMR (45.7, 41.0 and 41.0 kg/day, respectively) or HL-TMR (44.1, 40.3 and 40.3 kg/day, respectively). Net energy production (NEL+M+gain) per kg DM intake was highest in the SI-TMR, lowest in the HS-TMR and intermediate in the HL-TMR (1.52, 1.40 and 1.45, respectively). Animal welfare, as expressed in daily recumbence time and BW gain was similar in the SI and HS groups and higher than the HL cows.

Stimulation of TAM (TYRO3, AXL, and MERTK) receptor tyrosine kinases promotes tumor progression through numerous cellular mechanisms. TAM cognate ligands GAS6 and PROS1 (for TYRO3 and MERTK) are secreted by host immune cells, an interaction which may support tumor progression. Here, we revealed an unexpected antimetastatic role for myeloid-derived PROS1: suppressing metastatic potential in lung and breast tumor models. Pros1 deletion in myeloid cells led to increased lung metastasis, independent of primary tumor infiltration. PROS1-cKO bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) led to elevated TNF-[alpha], IL-6, Nos2, and IL-10 via modulation of the 5ocs3/NF-[kappa]B pathway. Conditioned medium from cKO BMDMs enhanced EMT, ERK, AKT, and STAT3 activation within tumor cells and promoted IL-10-dependent invasion and survival. Macrophages isolated from metastatic lungs modulated T cell proliferation and function, as well as expression of costimulatory molecules on DCs in a PROS1-dependent manner. Inhibition of MERTK kinase activity blocked PROS1-mediated suppression of TNF-[alpha] and IL-6 but not IL-10. STUDY QUESTION Does chemotherapy exposure affect IVM potential of immature oocytes retrieved from the ovarian cortex following ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) for fertility preservation? SUMMARY ANSWER The IVM potential of oocyte retrieved from ovarian cortex following OTC is not affected by prior exposure to chemotherapy but primarily dependent on patient's age, while successful retrieval of immature oocytes from the ovarian tissue is negatively affected by chemotherapy and its timing. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY The potential and feasibility of IVM in premenarche patients was previously demonstrated, in smaller studies. The scarce data that exist on the IVM potential of oocytes retrieved during OTC following chemotherapy support the feasibility of this process, however, this was not previously shown in the premenarche cancer patients population or in larger cohorts. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION A retrospective cohort study evaluating 229 cancer patients aged 1–39 years with attempted retrieval of oocytes from the ovarian tissue and the medium following OTC in a university affiliated fertility preservation unit between 2002 and 2021. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS A total of 172 chemotherapy naïve and 57 chemotherapy exposed patients aged 1–39 years underwent OTC in university affiliated tertiary infertility and IVF center. OTC and IVM outcomes were compared between the chemotherapy naïve and exposed groups. The main outcome measure was mean IVM rate per patient in the chemotherapy naïve and exposed groups, with subgroup analysis of a 1:1 chemotherapy exposed group matched for age at OTC and type of malignancy. We additionally analyzed premenarche and postmenarche patients' outcomes separately and investigated the effect of time from chemotherapy to IVM, malignancy type and chemotherapy regimen on oocyte number and IVM outcomes in the chemotherapy exposed group. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE While the number of retrieved oocytes and percentage of patients with at least one oocyte retrieved was higher in the chemotherapy naïve group (8.7 ± 7.9 versus 4.9 ± 5.6 oocytes and 87.2% versus 73.7%, P  < 0.001 and P  = 0.016, respectively), IVM rate and number of mature oocytes were comparable between the groups (29.0 ± 25.0% versus 28. 9 ± 29.2% and 2.8 ± 3.1 versus 2.2 ± 2.8, P  = 0.979 and P  = 0.203, respectively). Similar findings were shown in subgroup analyses for premenarche and postmenarche groups. The only parameter found to be independently associated with IVM rate in a multivariable model was menarche status (F  = 8.91, P  = 0.004). Logistic regression models similarly showed that past chemotherapy exposure is negatively associated with successful retrieval of oocytes while older age and menarche are predictive of successful IVM. An age and the type of malignancy matched (1:1) chemotherapy naïve and exposed groups were created (25 patients in each group). This comparison demonstrated similar IVM rate (35.4 ± 30.1% versus 31.0 ± 25.2%, P  = 0.533) and number of matured oocytes (2.7 ± 3.0. versus 3.0 ± 3.9 oocytes, P  = 0.772). Type of malignancy and chemotherapy regimen including alkylating agents were not associated with IVM rate. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION This study's inherited retrospective design and the long study period carries the possible technological advancement and differences. The chemotherapy exposed group was relatively small and included different age groups. We could only evaluate the potential of the oocytes to reach metaphase II in vitro but not their fertilization potential or clinical outcomes. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS IVM is feasible even after chemotherapy broadening the fertility preservation options of cancer patients. The use of IVM for fertility preservation, even after exposure to chemotherapy, should be further studied for optimal postchemotherapy timing safety and for the in vitro matured oocytes potential for fertilization. Low-cost feeding-behavior sensors will soon be available for commercial use in dairy farms. The aim of this study was to develop a feed intake model for the individual dairy cow that includes feeding behavior. In a research farm, the individual cows’ voluntary feed intake and feeding behavior were monitored at every meal. A feed intake model was developed based on data that exist in commercial modern farms: ‘BW,’ ‘milk yield’ and ‘days in milking’ parameters were applied in this study. At the individual cow level, eating velocity seemed to be correlated with feed intake (R2=0.93 to 0.94). The eating velocity coefficient varied among individuals, ranging from 150 to 230 g/min per cow. The contribution of feeding behavior (0.28) to the dry matter intake (DMI) model was higher than the contribution of BW (0.20), similar to the contribution of fat-corrected milk (FCM)/BW (0.29) and not as large as the contribution of FCM (0.49). Incorporating feeding behavior into the DMI model improved its accuracy by 1.3 (38%) kg/cow per day. The model is ready to be implemented in commercial farms as soon as companies introduce low-cost feeding-behavior sensors on commercial level.

Abstract Caudal duplication syndrome is a rare entity that describes the association between congenital anomalies involving caudal structures and may have a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations. A full-term male presented with combination of anomalies including anorectal malformation, duplication of the colon and lower urinary tract, split of the lower spine, and lipomyelomeningocele with tethering of the cord. We report this exceptional case of caudal duplication syndrome with special emphasis on surgical strategy and approach combining all disciplines involved. The purpose of this report is to present the pathology, assessment, and management strategy of this complex case.
