BackgroundShenqi Fuzheng injection (SQFZ) combined with chemotherapy can sensitize tumour cells. However, the mechanisms underlying SQFZ's effects remain unknown. In human breast cancer cell lines and M2 macrophages, we showed that SQFZ was a significantly potent agent of sensitization.MethodsThe human breast cancer cell line, MDA-MB-231/DDP, and the human acute leukaemia mononuclear cell line, THP-1, were used. MDA-MB-231/DDP breast cancer xenografts were established to monitor tumour growth. Resistance-associated proteins were examined by western blotting. Levels of cytokines and chemokines were detected by ELISA. Cell viability was measured using the MTT assay. Apoptosis was detected by flow cytometric analysis.ResultsSQFZ significantly enhanced the capability of cisplatin to reduce tumour mass. SQFZ and cisplatin decreased the expression of CD206 by 1.89-fold and increased that of CD86 by 1.76-fold as compared to cisplatin alone. The levels of PGE2, IL-6, and CCL1 decreased significantly, and the activation of p-PI3K and the expressions of P-gp and ABCG2 were also inhibited by SQFZ in combination with cisplatin treatment in vivo. The survival following cisplatin administration of 60 μM and 120 μM reduced significantly in the presence of SQFZ in MDA-MB-231/DDP and M2 co-cultured cells. IGF-1, a PI3K activator, combined with SQFZ weakened the effects of SQFZ-induced apoptosis from 28.7% to 10.5%. The effects of IGF-1 on increasing the expressions of P-gp, ABCG2, and Bcl-2, and decreasing that of Bax were reversed by SQFZ.ConclusionOur findings provide evidence that SQFZ is a potential therapeutic drug for cancer therapy.

Accurate prediction of displacements associated with deep excavations is essential to ensure safety and stability of the excavation and to prevent any damage and distress to the adjoining infrastructures. This paper presents a numerical approach for prediction of ground displacements related to a zone-divided deep excavation construction executed in Shanghai soft clays based on a new elasto–plastic constitutive model (small-strain Shanghai model) that incorporates small strain stiffness. This model can describe the mechanical properties and structural and over-consolidated characteristics of natural clays. The model is implemented into a finite element analysis software. Numerical analysis on the deep excavation in Shanghai using zone-divided method is conducted. A comparison between monitored and simulated results of horizontal displacements along the diaphragm wall, the settlements in the surroundings, and the effects on the adjoining metro tunnel due to excavation construction is carried out. Special attention is paid to the stiffness degradation of representative elements in the ground. The simulated displacements show a good agreement with the monitored data. Overall, this study provides an integrated solution for predicting displacements related to deep excavation in soft clays.

Abstract We study the connections between three quantities that can be used as diagnostics for quantum chaos, i.e., the out-of-time-order correlator (OTOC), Loschmidt echo (LE), and complexity. We generalize the connection between OTOC and LE for infinite dimensions and extend it for higher-order OTOCs and multi-fold LEs. Novel applications of this intrinsic relation are proposed. We also investigated the relationship between a specific circuit complexity and LE by using the inverted oscillator model and made a conjecture about their relationship. These relationships signal a deeper connection between these three probes of quantum chaos.

Abstract The utilization of resourceful bamboo can alleviate the wood shortage problem. Bamboo-oriented strand board (BOSB) with the highest utilization of bamboo ratio and excellent mechanical properties was considered as a good engineering and furniture material. The strength of joints affects the safety of BOSB structure. This study aims to investigate the effect of screw spacing on the tensile and compressive stiffness and strength of corner joints from BOSB by experimental method combined with finite element method (FEM) compared with wood-oriented strand board (WOSB). The results showed that (1) the strength and stiffness of the corner joint was significantly affected by the screw spacing, and it affected the compressive strength and stiffness of WOSB more significantly; (2) the bending moment and stiffness coefficient of BOSB compressed joint decreased with the increase of spacing, while that of tensile joint increased first and then decreased, and it reached the maximum value, when the spacing was 48 mm; (3) compared with WOSB joint, BOSB joint had higher strength and stiffness, and the failure of the joint was due to the yielding of self-drilling screws. This was also verified by numerical analysis results; (4) the bending moment of BOSB joints was about 2.5 times that of WOSB joints, while the difference between stiffness coefficient was small; (5) the elastic deformations resulted from experimental tests and FEM are similar. It was shown that when the screw spacing is 48 mm, the Von Mises stresses on the BOSB joint were smaller, and the bending strength and stiffness were larger, which was the most suitable screw spacing.

Organic fertilizers could be useful for agricultural sustainability. Therefore, this study explored green cultivation techniques to improve the grain yield of oilseed flax in dry areas of the Loess Plateau of China. With no fertilization (CK) as the control, the effects of sheep manure (S1: 12.5 t ha−1; S2: 25 t ha−1), poultry manure (C1: 5.8 t ha−1; C2: 11.6 t ha−1), and chemical fertilizers (F1: N 112 kg ha−1, P 75 kg ha−1, K 67.5 kg ha−1; F2: N 225 kg ha−1, P 150 kg ha−1, K 135 kg ha−1) on the growth and development, the grain filling characteristics, and the yield of the Zhangya 2 oilseed flax (Linum usitatisimum L.) variety were compared and analyzed based on a two-factor split plot experiment. The results showed that the application of manure significantly increased the emergence rate (ER) of oilseed flax. Poultry manure increased plant height while sheep manure increased stem diameter. The dry matter production was higher in the 25 t ha−1 sheep manure treatment by 2.47–40.11% compared with that of the other treatments, and it promoted the distribution ratio of dry matter to grains after anthesis. The observed relationship was in accordance with that presented by the logistic equation between grain weight and days after anthesis, and there were significant positive correlations between the 1000-grain weight and the average filling rate (V-ave), the maximum filling rate (V-max), and the growth at the maximum filling rate (W-max). The application of organic manure accelerated the grain filling rate (GFR); under the treatment with 25 t ha−1 sheep manure, V-ave, V-max, and W-max increased by 4.84–22.72%, 1.16–17.54%, and 4.58–22.63%, respectively, and the grain yield and the net income per unit area increased by 6.35–39.25% and 3.04–95.07%, respectively, compared with those under the other treatments. Consequently, the treatment with 25 t ha−1 sheep manure can significantly promote the growth and development of oilseed flax plants, optimize the grain filling characteristics, and increase the grain yield and net income, making it a suitable fertilization technique for oilseed flax in dry areas of the Loess Plateau of China.

As a major agricultural province, understanding the spatial distribution characteristics of non-point source pollution in Liaoning Province plays a crucial role in preventing and controlling non-point source pollution. This paper uses the pollution discharge coefficient method to calculate the TN and TP load of non-point source pollution in each city of Liaoning Province in 2019. The results indicate that: (1) In 2019, the emissions of TN and TP from non-point source pollution in Liaoning Province were 245.6 thousand t and 23.2 thousand t, respectively. Livestock and poultry farming is the main source of TN and TP pollution. (2) The total amount of standard pollution load was 361.269 billion m3. TN is the main source of non-point source pollution, with TN and TP accounting for 67.96% and 32.04%, respectively. Overall, pollution in the central and western regions is more serious than in the eastern regions, while pollution in the plain areas is worse than in the mountainous and hilly areas. Chaoyang should be a key focus in terms of the prevention and control of non-point source pollution, and the abundant total water resources play a crucial role in reducing pollution levels.

Understanding the correlation between magnetomechanical coupling factors (k) and damping factors (Q−1) is a key pathway toward enhancing the magnetomechanical power conversion efficiency in laminated magnetoelectric (ME) composites by manipulating the magnetic and mechanical properties of Fe-based amorphous metals through engineering. The k and Q−1 factors of FeSiB amorphous ribbons annealed in air at different temperatures are investigated. It is found that k and Q−1 factors are affected by both magnetic and elastic properties. The magnetic and elastic properties are characterized in terms of the magnetomechanical power efficiency for low-temperature annealing. The k and Q−1 of FeSiB-based epoxied laminates with different stacking numbers show that a −3 dB bandwidth and Young’s modulus are expressed in terms of the magnetomechanical power efficiency for high lamination stacking.

This paper proposes a model for the electromagnetic performance of the dual air-gap liquid-cooled eddy current retarder (DAL-ECR) considering the transient permeability. First, the structure and working principle of the DAL-ECR are introduced. Next, the analysis model of the static air-gap flux density considering the flux leakage and end effect is established based on the piecewise function method and the magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC). Then, based on the skin effect of the electromagnetic field in the retarder, an iterative method for solving the transient permeability of the stator is proposed. According to Faraday’s and Ampere’s laws, the analysis model of the static air-gap flux density, and the transient permeability, the analysis model of the transient air-gap flux density is established. The braking torque of the DAL-ECR is then calculated while taking the actual path of the eddy current and the skin effect on the permeability of the stator into consideration. Finally, the calculation accuracy of the model was verified by the finite element method (FEM) and the bench test.

Organic fertilizers are an important source of nutrients for improving farmland fertility. To explore high-yield, efficient and green production technology for oilseed flax in dryland agricultural areas, a field split plot experiment was conducted in the semi-arid area of the Loess Plateau in northwest China from April to August in 2020 and 2021. The study compared and analyzed the effects of different nutrient sources and their application rates on water consumption characteristics, grain yield and water use efficiency of oilseed flax. The main plots were fertilizer types (sheep manure, chicken manure and chemical fertilizer), while the subplots were fertilizer application rates (sheep manure: S1-12,500 kg·hm−2 and S2-25,000 kg·hm−2; chicken manure: C1-5800 kg·hm−2 and C2-11,600 kg·hm−2; chemical fertilizer: F1-N 112.5 kg·hm−2, P 75 kg·hm−2, K 67.5 kg·hm−2 and F2-N 225 kg·hm−2, P2O5 150 kg·hm−2, K2O 135 kg·hm−2). The results showed that compared with chemical fertilizers, organic fertilizers significantly increased the soil water storage capacity of the 0–160 cm soil layer during the whole growth period of oilseed flax and significantly reduced water consumption. During two growing seasons, the application of 25,000 kg·hm−2 sheep manure significantly reduced water consumption during the seedling-bud period and green fruit period-maturity period of oilseed flax by 16.13% and 23.19% compared with CK, respectively. Thousand-grain weight, yield and water use efficiency were significantly increased by 14.70%, 48.32% and 61.29%, respectively. These results indicate that the application of 25,000 kg·hm−2 sheep manure can significantly increase soil water storage capacity of the 0–160 cm soil layer, reduce water consumption during the whole growth period of oilseed flax and thus improve grain yield and water use efficiency of oilseed flax. It is a suitable fertilization technology for the high-yield, efficient and green production of oilseed flax in the semi-arid areas of northwest Loess Plateau.

The internal three-dimensional characteristics of X-ray microtomography (micro-CT) has great application potential in the field of bronze corrosion. This work presents a method of simulating bronze disease based on an in situ micro-CT image to study the characteristics of the oxidative hydrolysis reactions of copper(I) chloride and copper(II) chloride dihydrate. A series of high-resolution reconstruction images were obtained by carrying out micro-CT at three key points throughout the experiment. We found that the reactions of copper(I) chloride and copper(II) chloride dihydrate showed different characteristics at different stages of the simulation in the micro-CT view. The method proposed in this work specifically simulated one single type of bronze corrosion and characterized the evolution characteristics of simulated bronze disease. It provides a new perspective to investigate bronze disease and can help improve the subsequent use of micro-CT to distinguish real bronze corrosions.

In recent years, retinal ischemia such as that which occurs in diabetic retinopathy (DR) and retinal vein occlusion (RVO) has become a hotspot of ischemic retinopathy research. High levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) are recognized as a major cause of macular edema (ME) in DR and RVO. High concentrations of VEGF in the vitreous can lead to serious retinal ischemia and hypoxia and form retinal nonperfusion areas (NPAs). Different levels of retinal ischemia can represent disease severity and progression. Anti-VEGF therapy as the first-line treatment for ME has been found to be effective in improving vision, but there are still disputes about whether anti-VEGF therapy could improve retinal ischemia and achieve reperfusion of previously developed retinal NPAs. Here, we review and summarize studies of the effects of anti-VEGF drugs on retinal ischemia, especially NPAs.

Abstract Background Modified sutureless and glue-free method is an effective and novel surgical approach for pterygium. We aim to evaluate optical quality in pterygium treated with the new method and investigate the clinical application of the Optical Quality Analysis System (OQAS) and Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) to evaluate the pterygium surgery. Methods A total of 52 eyes of 52 patients with pterygium were randomly divided into 2 groups. After surgical excision, the bare sclera was placed with a tight fit limbal conjunctival autograft fixed via the modified sutureless and glue-free method in group 1 (26 eyes) and conventional sutures in group 2 (26 eyes). Objective scattering index (OSI), modulation transfer function (MTF) and Strehl ratio (SR) were measured using OQAS in both groups during the perioperative period. Pterygium diameter was measured on AS-OCT. Ocular surface disease index (OSDI) questionnaire also was used. Results The group 1 had significantly lower mean OSI, higher mean MTF, and higher mean SR at 1 month and 3 months after surgery (p 0.05). Study Design This was a retrospective clinical study. Purpose This study aimed to evaluate the effect of combination therapy with zoledronic acid and teriparatide on the risk of new vertebral fracture (NVF) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients after percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP). Overview of Literature Although T2DM had been associated with bone fragility and increased fracture risk, it remains unknown whether patients with T2DM could expect similar benefit from the combination therapy with zoledronic acid and teriparatide following PKP. Methods Total 106 diabetic patients who had undergone PKP and had received anti-osteoporosis treatment for osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture were enrolled and allocated into the following two groups: group I (n=52, zoledronic acid) and group II (n=54, zoledronic acid plus teriparatide). The operating time, bone cement volume, and complications related to anti-osteoporosis treatment or PKP, if any, were recorded. The Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were assessed at admission, at discharge, and at the final follow-up. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scan of the hip for the measurement of the bone mineral density (BMD) was performed preoperatively and at the final follow-up for all the patients. Results There was no significant difference in the age, body mass index, bone cement volume, or follow-up time of the groups. The mean follow-up duration was 22.5±1.6 months. All the patients had improved VAS and ODI, and group II had significantly better clinical outcomes than group I. All the patients had increased BMD at the latest follow-up, while group II exhibited significantly more improvement. The prevalence of NVF was lower in group II (11.5% vs. 7.4%, p=0.523). Male patients had a higher prevalence of NVF although the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusions Combination therapy with zoledronic acid and teriparatide could improve the clinical outcomes, and BMD and had the potential to reduce NVF in diabetic patients following PKP.

The integration of multiple virtual screening strategies facilitates the balance of computational efficiency and prediction accuracy. In this study, we constructed an efficient and reliable “multi-stage virtual screening-in vitro biological validation” system to identify potential inhibitors targeting extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase 2 (ERK2). Firstly, we rapidly obtained 10 candidate ERK2 inhibitors with desirable pharmacokinetic characteristics from thousands of named natural products in ZINC database based on machine learning classification models and ADME/T prediction. The structure-based molecular docking approach was then used to obtain four further hits with lower binding free energy compared to the positive control molecule Magnolipin. Subsequently, the two compounds were purchased for in vitro biological validation considering commercial availability and economic cost, and the results showed that Dodoviscin A exhibited acceptable inhibitory activity on ERK2 (IC50 = 10.79 μm). Finally, the mechanism of action and binding stability of this natural product inhibitor were investigated by binding mode analysis and molecular dynamics simulation.

Plants with certain medicinal values are a good source for isolating function-specific endophytes. Rosa roxburghii Tratt. has been reported to be a botanical source of antimicrobial compounds, which may represent a promising candidate for screening endophytic fungi with antimicrobial potential. In this study, 54 endophytes were isolated and molecularly identified from R. roxburghii. The preliminary screening using the plate confrontation method resulted in 15 different endophytic strains showing at least one strong inhibition or three or more moderate inhibition against the 12 tested strains. Further re-screening experiments based on the disc diffusion method demonstrated that Epicoccum latusicollum HGUP191049 and Setophoma terrestris HGUP190028 had excellent antagonistic activity. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) test for extracellular metabolites finally indicated that HGUP191049 had lower MIC values and a broader antimicrobial spectrum, compared to HGUP190028. Genomic, non-target metabolomic, and comparative genomic studies were performed to understand the biosynthetic capacity of the screened-out endophytic fungus. Genome sequencing and annotation of HGUP191049 revealed a size of 33.24 megabase pairs (Mbp), with 24 biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs), where the putative antimicrobial compounds, oxyjavanicin, patulin and squalestatin S1 were encoded by three different BGCs, respectively. In addition, the non-targeted metabolic results demonstrated that the strain contained approximately 120 antimicrobial secondary metabolites and was structurally diverse. Finally, comparative genomics revealed differences in pathogenicity, virulence, and carbohydrate-active enzymes in the genome of Epicoccum spp. Moreover, the results of the comparative analyses presumed that Epicoccum is a promising source of antimicrobial terpenes, while oxyjavanicin and squalestatin S1 are antimicrobial compounds shared by the genus. In conclusion, R. roxburghii and the endophytic HGUP191049 isolated from it are promising sources of broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents.

Crop production and water productivity may be impacted by diverse crop rotation and management practices. A field study was conducted from 2017-2020 in the Loess Plateau to evaluate the effects of crop rotation sequences on pre-planting and post-harvest soil water storage (SWS), annualized crop yield, water use, and water productivity. Crops in rotation included oil flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) (F), wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) (W), potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) (P). Twelve 4-year-cycle crop rotation treatments, along with a continuous oil flax treatment as a baseline, were included. The results showed that the average soil water content under the 0-150 cm soil layer in all treatments was increased after one rotation cycle, and the PWFW treatment achieved the highest SWC (17.1%). The average soil water storage (winter fallow season) and evapotranspiration (ETa) (growing season) under different crop rotation sequences were lower than those under continuous oil flax cropping. The ETa of FFFF increased by 28.9, 2.7, 15.3, and 28.4%, compared to average crop rotations in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, respectively. Crop rotation had a significant effect on average annual yield and water use efficiency (WUE), which varied by year and rotation sequence. The crop rotations with the highest grain yield of oil flax were FFWP (2017), WFWP (2018),WPFF (2019) and FWPF (2020); the grain yield of wheat was highest when the two pre-crops (previously cultivated crops) were F-F, and potato yield was highest when the two pre-crops were W-F (except 2018). On average, the WUE of oil flax was 8.6, 38.7, 22.7, and 42.1% lower with FFFF than other diversity crop rotations in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. We found that the WUE was not the largest when the grain yield of oil flax and wheat was highest. The treatments with maximum grain yield and WUE were not consistent. Our findings also revealed that wheat-potato-oil flax or potato-wheat-oil flax rotation could increase oil flax grain yields while wheat-oil flax-potato-oil flax markedly improved oil flax WUE.

Recent studies have shown that the recognition and monitoring of different valence emotions can effectively avoid the occurrence of human errors due to the decline in cognitive ability. The quality of features directly affects emotion recognition results, so this manuscript explores the effective electroencephalography (EEG) features for the recognition of different valence emotions. First, 110 EEG features were extracted from the time domain, frequency domain, time-frequency domain, spatial domain, and brain network, including all the current mainly used features. Then, the classification performance, computing time, and important electrodes of each feature were systematically compared and analyzed on the self-built dataset involving 40 subjects and the public dataset DEAP. The experimental results show that the first-order difference, second-order difference, high-frequency power, and high-frequency differential entropy features perform better in the recognition of different valence emotions. Also, the time-domain features, especially the first-order difference features and second-order difference features, have less computing time, so they are suitable for real-time emotion recognition applications. Besides, the features extracted from the frontal, temporal, and occipital lobes are more effective than others for the recognition of different valence emotions. Especially, when the number of electrodes is reduced by 3/4, the classification accuracy of using features from 16 electrodes located in these brain regions is 91.8%, which is only about 2% lower than that of using all electrodes. The study results can provide an important reference for feature extraction and selection in emotion recognition based on EEG.

We propose to probe the Zbb¯ interactions at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) by utilizing the average jet charge weighted single-spin asymmetry AebQ, which is induced by different cross sections of a left-handed and right-handed electron beam scattering off an unpolarized proton beam in the neutral current deeply-inelastic scattering processes with one observed b-tagged jet. This novel observable at the EIC is sensitive to the axial-vector component of the Zbb¯ coupling, providing similar information as the gg→Zh cross section measurement at the high-luminosity Large Hadron Collider, and is complementary to the single-spin asymmetry measurement at the EIC which is sensitive to the vector component of the Zbb¯ coupling. We show that the apparent degeneracy of the allowed Zbb¯ coupling in its vector and axial-vector components, implied by the Large Electron-Positron Collider (LEP) and the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC) precision electroweak data, can be broken by the AebQ measurement at the EIC. With a large enough integrated luminosity collected at the EIC, the measurement of AebQ could also resolve the long-standing discrepancy between bottom quark forward-backward asymmetry AFBb at the LEP and the Standard Model prediction, with a strong dependence on the b-tagging efficiency.

The dark photon is widely predicted in many new physics beyond the Standard Model. In this work, we propose to utilize the polarized lepton cross section and single-spin asymmetry in neutral current DIS process at the HERA and upcoming Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) to probe the properties of the dark photon. It shows that we can constrain the mixing parameter ϵ

Silver has been in clinical use since ancient times and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have attracted attention in cancer therapy. We investigated the mechanisms by which AgNPs inhibit pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). AgNPs were synthesized and 3 human PDAC and 2 nonmalignant primary cell lines were treated with AgNPs. MTT, MAPK, colony, spheroid and scratch assays, Western blotting, TEM, annexin V, 7-AAD, and H2DCFDA staining, FACS analysis, mRNA array and bioinformatics analyses, tumor xenograft transplantation, and immunohistochemistry of the treated cells were performed. We found that minimal AgNPs amounts selectively eradicated PDAC cells within a few hours. AgNPs inhibited cell migration and spheroid and colony formation, damaged mitochondria, and induced paraptosis-like cell death with the presence of cytoplasmic vacuoles, dilation of the ER and mitochondria, ROS formation, MAPK activity, and p62 and LC3b expression, whereas effects on the nucleus, DNA fragmentation, or caspases were not detectable. AgNPs strongly decreased tumor xenograft growth without side effects and reduced the expression of markers for proliferation and DNA repair, but upregulated paraptosis markers. The results highlight nanosilver as complementary agent to improve the therapeutic efficacy in pancreatic cancer.

p38α is a mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), and the signaling pathways involved are closely related to the inflammation, apoptosis and differentiation of cells, which also makes it an attractive target for drug discovery. With the high efficiency and low cost, virtual screening technology is becoming an indispensable part of drug development. In this study, a novel multi-stage virtual screening method based on machine learning, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation was developed to identify p38α MAPK inhibitors from natural products in ZINC database, which improves the prediction accuracy by considering and utilizing both ligand and receptor information compared to any individual approach. Ultimately, we screened out two candidate inhibitors with acceptable ADMET properties (ZINC4260400 and ZINC8300300). Among the generated machine learning models, Random Forest (RF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) performed better, with the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) values of 0.932 and 0.931 on the test set, as well as 0.834 and 0.850 on the external validation set. In addition, the results of molecular docking and ADMET prediction showed that two compounds with appropriate pharmacokinetic properties had binding free energies less than −8.0 kcal/mol for the target protein, and the results of molecular dynamics simulations further confirmed that they were stable during the process of inhibition.

Background: A virtual system that simulates the complete process of orthodontic bracket placement can be used for pre-clinical skill training to help students gain confidence by performing the required tasks on a virtual patient. Methods: The hardware for the virtual simulation system is built using two force feedback devices to support bi-manual force feedback operation. A 3D mouse is used to adjust the position of the virtual patient. A multi-threaded computational methodology is adopted to satisfy the requirements of the frame rate. The computation threads mainly consist of the haptic thread running at a frequency of >1000Hz and the graphic thread at >30Hz. The graphic thread allows the graphics engine to effectively display the visual effects of biofilm removal and acid erosion through texture mapping. Using the haptic thread, the physics engine adopts the hierarchy octree collision-detection algorithm to simulate the multi-point and multi-region interaction between the tools and the virtual environment. Its high efficiency guarantees that the time cost can be controlled within 1 ms. The physics engine also performs collision detection between the tools and particles, making it possible to simulate paint and removal of colloids. The surface-contact constraints are defined in the system; this ensures that the bracket will not divorce from or embed into the tooth during the adjustment of the bracket. Therefore, the simulated adjustment is more realistic and natural. Results: A virtual system to simulate the complete process of orthodontic bracket bonding was developed. In addition to bracket bonding and adjustment, the system simulates the necessary auxiliary steps such as smearing, acid etching, and washing. Furthermore, the system supports personalized case training. Conclusions: The system provides a new method for students to practice orthodontic skills.

Qiuhui Li et al. report a pan-genome sequence study in Han Chinese genomes. They find 276 Mbp of DNA sequences (absent in the current human reference), and report that 46.646 Mbp common sequences improved the accuracy of variant calling and mapping rate when added to the reference genome.

Abstract Background The aim of this study was to investigate the potential use of renal ultrasonography radiomics features in the histologic classification of glomerulopathy. Methods A total of 623 renal ultrasound images from 46 membranous nephropathy (MN) and 22 IgA nephropathy patients were collected. The cases and images were divided into a training group (51 cases with 470 images) and a test group (17 cases with 153 images). A total of 180 dimensional features were designed and extracted from the renal parenchyma in the ultrasound images. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) logistic regression was then applied to these normalized radiomics features to select the features with the highest correlations. Four machine learning classifiers, including logistic regression, a support vector machine (SVM), a random forest, and a K-nearest neighbour classifier, were deployed for the classification of MN and IgA nephropathy. Subsequently, the results were assessed according to accuracy and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results Patients with MN were older than patients with IgA nephropathy. MN primarily manifested in patients as nephrotic syndrome, whereas IgA nephropathy presented mainly as nephritic syndrome. Analysis of the classification performance of the four classifiers for IgA nephropathy and MN revealed that the random forest achieved the highest area under the ROC curve (AUC) (0.7639) and the highest specificity (0.8750). However, logistic regression attained the highest accuracy (0.7647) and the highest sensitivity (0.8889). Conclusions Quantitative radiomics imaging features extracted from digital renal ultrasound are fully capable of distinguishing IgA nephropathy from MN. Radiomics analysis, a non-invasive method, is helpful for histological classification of glomerulopathy.

Abstract Background Typhoons greatly threaten human life and property, especially in China. Therefore, it is important to make effective policy decisions to minimize losses associated with typhoons. Methods In this study, the GeoDetector method was used to quantify the determinant powers of natural and socioeconomic factors, and their interactions, on the population casualty rate of super typhoon Lekima. The local indicator of spatial association (LISA) method was followed to explore the spatial pattern of the population casualty rate under the influence of the identified dominant factors. Results Both natural and socioeconomic factors were found to have significantly impacted the population casualty rate due to super typhoon Lekima. Among the selected factors, maximum precipitation was dominant factor (q = 0.56), followed by maximum wind speed (q = 0.45). In addition, number of health technicians (q = 0.35) and number of health beds (q = 0.27) have a strong influence on the population casualty rate. Among the interactive effects of 12 influencing factors, the combined effects of maximum precipitation and ratio of brick-wood houses, the maximum precipitation and ratio of steel-concrete houses, maximum precipitation and number of health technicians were highest (q = 0.72). Furthermore, high-risk areas with very high casualty rates were concentrated in the southeastern part of Zhejiang and northern Shandong Provinces, while lower-risk areas were mainly distributed in northern Liaoning and eastern Jiangsu provinces. Conclusions These results contribute to the development of more specific policies aimed at safety and successful property protection according to the regional differences during typhoons.

Reservoir parameter prediction is of significant value to oil and gas exploration and development. Artificial intelligence models are developing rapidly in reservoir parameter prediction. Unfortunately, current research has focused on multi-input single-output prediction models. Meaning, these models use a large amount of logging or seismic data to predict the petrophysical properties of a single reservoir. Another prominent problem is that most mechanistic learning studies have focused on using logging data (e.g., gamma ray and resistivity) to make predictions of reservoir parameters. Although these studies have yielded promising accuracy, a great shortcoming is the inability to obtain such data in logs by seismic inversion. The value of our research work is to achieve a complete description of the reservoir using the elastic parameters from the seismic inversion. We developed a deep learning method based on gated recurrent neural network (GRNN) suitable for simultaneous prediction of porosity, saturation and shale content in the reservoir. GRNN is based on Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), which can automatically update and reset the hidden state. The input parameters to the model are compressive wave velocity, shear wave velocity and density. The model is trained to fit nonlinear relationships between input parameters and multiple physical parameters. We employed two wells: one for testing and the other for training. 20% of the data in the training wells were used as the validation set. In preprocessing, we performed z-score whitening on the input data. During the training phase, the model hyperparameters were optimized based on the mean absolute error (MAE) box plots of the validation set. Experiments on the test data show that the model has superior robustness and accuracy compared to the conventional recurrent neural network (RNN). In the GRNN prediction results of the test set, the MAE is 0.4889 and the mean squared error (MSE) is 0.5283. Due to the difference in input parameters, our prediction is weaker than the research method using logging data. However, our proposed method has higher practical value in exploration work.

Taking a suspension bridge of (84+84+1092+84+84) m high-speed railway as an example, a nonlinear dynamic simulation model of long-span suspension bridge-tracks system is established. The seismic response characteristics of CWR system of railway suspension bridge under the action of multi-dimensional seismic waves are analyzed. The effects of design parameters such as initial temperature load mode and viscous damper on the seismic response of the system are discussed. Calculation results showed that the longitudinal seismic excitation has great influence on the steel rail stress on the adjacent bridges on both sides and the longitudinal shear force at the pier bottom, and the transverse seismic excitation has great influence on the steel rail stress on the main truss of the suspension bridge, the vertical seismic excitation has a great influence on the internal forces of the main cable and sling; the initial temperature load has a significant influence on the internal forces of the main cable and sling; by reasonably setting the damping coefficient and speed index of the viscous damper, it can effectively reduce the displacement at the end of the main tower pier beam and the bending moment at the bottom of the pier.

Detecting video-induced P3 is crucial to building the video target detection system based on the brain-computer interface. However, studies have shown that the brain response patterns corresponding to video-induced P3 are dynamic and determined by the interaction of multiple brain regions. This paper proposes a segmentation adaptive spatial-temporal graph convolutional network (SAST-GCN) for P3-based video target detection. To make full use of the dynamic characteristics of the P3 signal data, the data is segmented according to the processing stages of the video-induced P3, and the brain network connections are constructed correspondingly. Then, the spatial-temporal feature of EEG data is extracted by adaptive spatial-temporal graph convolution to discriminate the target and non-target in the video. Especially, a style-based recalibration module is added to select feature maps with higher contributions and increase the feature extraction ability of the network. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our proposed model over the baseline methods. Also, the ablation experiments indicate that the segmentation of data to construct the brain connection can effectively improve the recognition performance by reflecting the dynamic connection relationship between EEG channels more accurately.

Abstract The subfamily Typhlocybinae is a ubiquitous, highly diverse group of mostly tiny, delicate leafhoppers. The tribal classification has long been controversial and phylogenetic methods have only recently begun to test the phylogenetic status and relationships of tribes. To shed light on the evolution of Typhlocybinae, we performed phylogenetic analyses based on 28 newly sequenced and 19 previously sequenced mitochondrial genomes representing all currently recognized tribes. The results support the monophyly of the subfamily and its sister‐group relationship to Mileewinae. The tribe Zyginellini is polyphyletic with some included genera derived independently within Typhlocybini. Ancestral character state reconstruction suggests that some morphological characters traditionally considered important for diagnosing tribes (presence/absence of ocelli, development of hind wing submarginal vein) are homoplastic. Divergence time estimates indicate that the subfamily arose during the Middle Cretaceous and that the extant tribes arose during the Late Cretaceous. Phylogenetic results support establishment of a new genus, Subtilissimia Yan & Yang gen. nov., with two new species, Subtilissimia fulva Yan & Yang sp. nov. and Subtilissimia pellicula Yan & Yang sp. nov.; but indicate that two previously recognized species of Farynala distinguished only by the direction of curvature of the processes of the aedeagus are synonyms, that is, Farynala dextra Yan & Yang, 2017 equals Farynala sinistra Yan & Yang, 2017 syn. nov. A key to tribes of Typhlocybinae is provided.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) authentication has become a research hotspot in the field of information security due to its advantages of living, internal, and anti-stress. However, the performance of identity authentication system is limited by the inherent attributes of EEG, such as low SNR, low stability, and strong randomness. Researchers generally believe that the in-depth fusion of features can improve the performance of identity authentication and have explored among various feature domains. This experiment invited 70 subjects to participate in the EEG identity authentication task, and the experimental materials were visual stimuli of the self and non-self-names. This paper proposes an innovative EEG authentication framework, including efficient three-dimensional representation of EEG signals, multi-scale convolution structure, and the combination of multiple authentication strategies. In this work, individual EEG signals are converted into spatial–temporal–frequency domain three-dimensional forms to provide multi-angle mixed feature representation. Then, the individual identity features are extracted by the various convolution kernel of multi-scale vision, and the strategy of combining multiple convolution kernels is explored. The results show that the small-size and long-shape convolution kernel is suitable for ERP tasks, which can obtain better convergence and accuracy. The experimental results show that the classification performance of the proposed framework is excellent, and the multi-scale convolution method is effective to extract high-quality identity characteristics across feature domains. The results show that the branch number matches the EEG component number can obtain the excellent cost performance. In addition, this paper explores the network training performance for multi-scale module combination strategy and provides reference for deep network construction strategy of EEG signal processing.

ObjectivesTo compare short-term effect of intravitreal ranibizumab with dexamethasone implant for diabetic macular edema (DME) in vitrectomized eyes.MethodsSingle-center, prospective, randomized study of vitrectomized eyes with DME. Study eyes were divided into two groups, receiving ranibizumab (IVV group, n = 35 eyes) or dexamethasone implant (IVD group, n = 35 eyes) respectively. Patients were evaluated at baseline, Week 1 and Month 1. The main outcome measures included best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central retinal thickness (CRT) and intraocular pressure (IOP).ResultsBCVA and CRT were similar in the two groups at baseline. At Week 1, the CRT improvement was significant in two groups (P = 0.041 in IVV group, P = 0.030 in IVD group), but at Month 1, only IVD group had significant improvement in CRT (P < 0.001). And BCVA gains were significant at Week 1 (P = 0.029) and Month 1 (P = 0.001) in IVD group, whereas IVV group did not show significant BCVA gains (P = 0.056 at Week1, P = 0.166 at Month 1). The changes of BCVA and CRT were significantly higher in IVD group than IVV group at Month1, but the changes were not significant at Week1.ConclusionsComparing to anti-VEGF therapy, DEX implant is more effect in improving BCVA and reducing CRT in vitrectomized eyes at 1 month, which indicated DEX implant is a better strategy.

We propose to utilize the exclusive Z-boson rare decays Z→ϒ(ns)+γ to constrain the Zbb¯ couplings at the HL-LHC and 100 TeV proton-proton collider. We demonstrate that the event yield of the proposed processes is sensitive to the axial-vector component of the Zbb¯ coupling and can provide complementary information to the jet-charge weighted single-spin asymmetry measurement at the EIC and the gg→Zh production rate measurement at the LHC. By applying the NRQCD factorization formalism, we calculate the partial decay width of Z→ϒ(ns)+γ to the NLO accuracy in strong interaction, which is found to agree with those obtained from the light-cone distribution amplitude approach. We show that the HL-LHC can break the degeneracy of the Zbb¯ couplings, as implied by the precision electroweak data at LEP and SLC, if the signal efficiency can be improved by a factor of 1.7 from the present ATLAS analysis at the 13 TeV LHC with an integrated luminosity of 36.1fb−1.

In this study, the whole mitochondrial genome of Jacobiasca formosana was sequenced and annotated. The mitogenome is 16,353bp in length, including 37 typical genes and a control region. The 13 length of protein genomes (PCGs) is 10,980bp in size, which encode 3,649 amino acids. All PCGs started with ATN codon and most of PCGs stopped with TAN, except for COX1, COX2 and ND5 used incomplete T as stop codon. The phylogenetic tree results showed that J. formosana belonged to the Empoascini of subfamily Typhlocybinae but different from other species in the subfamily.

In order to investigate the stress characteristics of ballastless track under high latitude, and multi-source and multi-field extreme temperature conditions. Based on the finite element theory and the elastic foundation beam–plate principle, a finite element model of the ballastless track considering the limit convex abutment, gel resin, and interlayer bonding is established. The mechanical characteristics of the ballastless track under the slab–CAM layer bonding state, mortar separation, freeze–thaw degradation and forced deformation of the foundation are studied. Considering the deterioration of materials, the bending moment and reinforcement of track structures in cold regions are checked and calculated. The studies show that under the action of negative temperature gradient load, the edge of the track slab is subjected to tension, and structural separation occurs at the edge of the slab. When the interface between the track slab–CAM layer is poorly bonded, the bearing capacity can be improved, and the amount of separation can be reduced by increasing the structural stiffness of the CAM layer. Under the action of freeze–thaw cycles, the material performance deteriorates seriously, the separation between the track structures intensifies, the baseplate is seriously powdered and cracked, and the maximum tensile stress exceeds 6 MPa. The CAM layer and the baseplate are weak structures, and the foundation frost heave occurs at the expansion joint of the baseplate, which is the frost heave condition. Under freeze–thaw deterioration, the original reinforcement design of the substructure structure does not meet the requirements of structural cracks and reinforcement yield stress. In severely cold areas, the structural reinforcement scheme should be reasonably determined.

Eliminating the magnetic interference of the carrier platform is an important technical link and plays a vital role in aeromagnetic survey. The traditional compensation method is based on the Tolles–Lawson (T-L) model and establishes the linear relationship between the aircraft interference magnetic field and the aircraft attitude. The compensation coefficients are solved by designing the calibration flight. At present, almost all aeromagnetic systems use the fluxgate magnetometer fixed to the aircraft to realize the attitude measurement of the flight platform. However, the fluxgate magnetometer has problems, such as non-orthogonal error, zero drift error, and linearity error limited by the production process, and the fluxgate magnetometer is also very susceptible to external magnetic interference as a magnetic sensor. These lead to the aircraft attitude calculated by the fluxgate magnetometer being inaccurate, thus reducing the compensation effect. In this article, we analyze the influence of the fluxgate magnetometer noise on compensation and propose a new conjunctive compensation method based on inertial navigation systems (INS) and fluxgate magnetometer information to improve the compensation effect. The flight experiment data show that the proposed method can significantly improve the quality of aeromagnetic data. Compared with the traditional compensation method only based on fluxgate magnetometer information, the improved ratio is increased by 30–60%, and it is a real-time compensation method. It shows that the proposed method has a remarkable compensation effect for aeromagnetic interference.

Spectral computed tomography (spectral CT) is a promising medical imaging technology because of its ability to provide information on material characterization and quantification. However, with an increasing number of basis materials, the nonlinearity of measurements causes difficulty in decomposition. In addition, noise amplification and beam hardening further reduce image quality. Thus, improving the accuracy of material decomposition while suppressing noise is pivotal for spectral CT imaging. This paper proposes a one-step multi-material reconstruction model as well as an iterative proximal adaptive decent method. In this approach, a proximal step and a descent step with adaptive step size are designed under the forward–backward splitting framework. The convergence analysis of the algorithm is further discussed according to the convexity of the optimization objective function. For simulation experiments with different noise levels, the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) obtained by the proposed method increases approximately 23 dB, 14 dB, and 4 dB compared to those of other algorithms. Magnified areas of thorax data further demonstrated that the proposed method has a better ability to preserve details in tissues, bones, and lungs. Numerical experiments verify that the proposed method efficiently reconstructed the material maps, and reduced noise and beam hardening artifacts compared with the state-of-the-art methods.

The visual cryptography scheme (VCS) distributes a secret to several images that can enhance the secure transmission of that secret. Quick response (QR) codes are widespread. VCS can be used to improve their secure transmission. Some schemes recover QR codes with many errors. This paper uses a distribution mechanism to achieve the error-free recovery of QR codes. An error-correction codeword (ECC) is used to divide the QR code into different areas. Every area is a key, and they are distributed to n shares. The loss of any share will make the reconstructed QR code impossible to decode normally. Stacking all shares can recover the secret QR code losslessly. Based on some experiments, the proposed scheme is relatively safe. The proposed scheme can restore a secret QR code without errors, and it is effective and feasible.

The key issues in designing ballastless track for high-speed railway bridges are to reduce maintenance and improve track smoothness by understanding fatigue damage characteristics. This paper is based on the principle of bridge-rail interaction and train-track-bridge coupling dynamics, the refined simulation model of bridge-CRTS I Bi-block ballastless track system is established by using the finite element method. The longitudinal force distribution law of CWR (Continuously Welded Rail) and the dynamic response characteristics of coupling systems are studied, based on the Miner rule and S-N curve. The fatigue characteristics of ballastless track system laying on long-span bridge under the dynamic train load and the effect of ballastless track system design parameters changes on fatigue characteristics are discussed. The results show that the extreme values of longitudinal force of CWR all appear in the middle of the bridge span or near the bridge bearing, and attention should be paid to the strength checking of CRW laying on long-span bridge. Under the dynamic train load, the fatigue life curve of rail on the bridge is relatively smooth and the minimum life of rail which is laying on continuous bridge decreases from 27.1 years to 17 years that which is laying on cable-stayed bridge. The life curve of track plate laying on continuous bridge is relatively smooth, and the life curve of track plate laying on cable-stayed bridge is related to the stiffness of elastic cushion, which decreases in a stepped manner, and there will be no fatigue failure on the track plate during service. The life curve of the baseplate is related to the type of bridge, the minimum life value of the baseplate appears near the bridge bearing, and there will be no fatigue failure on the baseplate during service. Increasing the stiffness of elastic cushion can effectively improve the fatigue life of track plate, and increasing the vertical stiffness of fasteners can enhance the connection between rail and track plate and improve the fatigue life of rail. The increase in train speed will increase the dynamic stress amplitude of track structure and reduce the fatigue life of the rail.

Kaposi’s sarcoma, an AIDS-defining illness, is caused by Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV), an oncogenic virus. In this study, we engineered ribozymes derived from ribonuclease P (RNase P) catalytic RNA with targeting against the mRNA encoding KSHV immediate early replication and transcription activator (RTA), which is vital for KSHV gene expression. The functional ribozyme F-RTA efficiently sliced the RTA mRNA sequence in vitro. In cells, KSHV production was suppressed with ribozyme F-RTA expression by 250-fold, and RTA expression was suppressed by 92–94%. In contrast, expression of control ribozymes hardly affected RTA expression or viral production. Further studies revealed both overall KSHV early and late gene expression and viral growth decreased because of F-RTA-facilitated suppression of RTA expression. Our results indicate the first instance of RNase P ribozymes having potential for use in anti-KSHV therapy.

Background: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is the most prevalent spinal deformity, which may have long-term negative consequences on adolescents. The research on the etiology is of great importance for identifying high-risk population and formulate tailored prevention. This study aimed to evaluate the association between academic-related factors and daily lifestyle habits and AIS. Methods: In this population-based case-control study, 491 AIS cases and 1,346 healthy controls that frequency-matched by age and sex were recruited in Shenzhen, Southern China. AIS was diagnosed as a Cobb angle ≥ 10° on standing posteroanterior radiographs of the whole spine. The academic-related factors (e.g., reading and writing posture) and daily lifestyle habits (e.g., intake of milk and dairy products) were collected by a self-reported questionnaire. The logistic regression analysis was performed. Results: After adjusting for potential confounding factors, multivariable logistic regression models demonstrated that academic-related factors were associated with AIS. Individuals with poor reading and writing posture were more likely to have AIS (AOR: 2.06, 95%CI: 1.58–2.68). Moreover, there was a significant association between heavy school bags and AIS (AOR: 2.22, 95%CI: 1.50–3.31). Additionally, adolescents who reported daily screen time on weekdays over 2 hours were more likely to develop AIS (P < 0.001). Regarding daily lifestyle habits, individuals without the habit of taking milk and dairy products had a higher risk of developing AIS (AOR: 1.87, 95%CI: 1.29–2.71). Conclusions: Academic-related factors and daily lifestyle habits were associated with AIS among Chinese adolescents. Schools, families, and related facilities are recommended to take actions on developing effective prevention and management strategies that integrates “Student-Family-School-Education-Health-Sports” for AIS.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV), an international public health concern, is a leading viral cause of liver disease, such as hepatocellular carcinoma. Sequence-specific ribozymes derived from ribonuclease P (RNase P) catalytic RNA are being explored for gene targeting applications. In this study, we engineered an active RNase P ribozyme, M1-S-A, targeting the overlapping region of HBV S mRNA, pre-S/L mRNA, and pregenomic RNA (pgRNA), all deemed essential for viral infection. Ribozyme M1-S-A cleaved the S mRNA sequence efficiently in vitro. We studied the effect of RNase P ribozyme on HBV gene expression and replication using the human hepatocyte HepG2.2.15 culture model that harbors an HBV genome and supports HBV replication. In these cultured cells, the expression of M1-S-A resulted in a reduction of more than 80% in both HBV RNA and protein levels and an inhibition of about 300-fold in the capsid-associated HBV DNA levels when compared to the cells that did not express any ribozymes. In control experiments, cells expressing an inactive control ribozyme displayed little impact on HBV RNA and protein levels, and on capsid-associated viral DNA levels. Our study signifies that RNase P ribozyme can suppress HBV gene expression and replication, implying the promise of RNase P ribozymes for anti-HBV therapy.

Menispermi Rhizoma, the rhizome of Menispermum dauricum DC., is a traditional Chinese medicine, which has the effect of clearing away heat and detoxification, dispelling wind, and relieving pain. It is often used in the treatment of sore throat, enteritis, dysentery, and rheumatism. The chemical constituents of M. Rhizoma mainly include alkaloids, phenolic acids, quinones, cardiotonic glycosides, and so on. Modern pharmacological studies have proved that M. Rhizoma has the effects of anti-tumour, anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, bacteriostasis, cardio-cerebrovascular protection, anti-depression and anti-Alzheimer’s disease. In recent years, the chemical constituents of M. Rhizoma have been found continuously, and the pharmacological studies have deepened gradually. This paper reviews the research progress on the chemical composition and pharmacological effects of M. Rhizoma, to provide a basis for further research and development of its medicinal value.

The important identity attribute of self-information presents unique cognitive processing advantages in psychological experiments and has become a research hotspot in psychology and brain science. The unique processing mode of own information has been widely verified in visual and auditory experiments, which is a unique neural processing method for own name, face, voice and other information. In the study of individual behavior, the behavioral uniqueness of self-information is reflected in the faster response of the human brain to self-information, the higher attention to self-information, and the stronger memory level of self-reference. Brain imaging studies have also presented the uniqueness of self-cognition in the brain. EEG studies have shown that self-information induces significant P300 components. fMRI and PET results show that the differences in self and non-self working patterns were located in the frontal and parietal lobes. In addition, this paper combines the self-uniqueness theory and brain-print recognition technology to explore the application of self-information in experimental design, channel combination strategy and identity feature selection of brainprints.

A new leafhopper genus and species, Anzihelus bistriatus Yan & Yang, gen. nov. sp. nov. (Cicadellidae, Mileewinae, Mileewini) is described from Sichuan Province, China. Habitus images and figures of the male and female genitalia are provided together with a key to the genera of Mileewini from China.

Abstract Background Intensive care unit (ICU) nurses are at high risk for work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMDs). Data on occupational injuries indicate the significance of WRMDs among ICU nurses. Intervention programs have previously been developed to reduce WRMDs, but different intervention methods need to be adopted for different groups of people. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a multidimensional intervention program to prevent and reduce WRMDs in ICU nurses. Methods This study was designed as a two-armed cluster-controlled trial with an intervention group and a control group. The clusters were independent hospital ICUs, and the participants consisted of registered nurses in China. By cluster random sampling, 89 nurses from two ICUs were assigned to the intervention group, and 101 nurses from two other ICUs were assigned to the control group. A multidimensional intervention program based on previous studies was designed. This program combined improving risk perception, health behavior training, and promoting a safe working environment. The multidimensional intervention program was implemented in the intervention group, whereas routine specialist training was implemented in the control group. Baseline and follow-up (3 and 6 months) data were collected using self-reported online questionnaires. The primary outcome was the report rate of WRMDs in the past 7 days. Secondary outcomes were risk perception, application of health behavior, and perception of a safe working environment. The data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 19.0. Results A total of 190 nurses provided three recorded outcome measurements (intervention group, N = 89 (94.68%); control group, N = 101 (94.39%)). Abstract We present a comprehensive analysis of the potential sensitivity of the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) to charged lepton flavor violation (CLFV) in the channel ep → τX, within the model-independent framework of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). We compute the relevant cross sections to leading order in QCD and electroweak corrections and perform simulations of signal and SM background events in various τ decay channels, suggesting simple cuts to enhance the associated estimated efficiencies. To assess the discovery potential of the EIC in τ-e transitions, we study the sensitivity of other probes of this physics across a broad range of energy scales, from pp → eτX at the Large Hadron Collider to decays of B mesons and τ leptons, such as τ → eγ, τ → eℓ + ℓ − , and crucially the hadronic modes τ → eY with Y ∈ { π, K, ππ, Kπ, …}. We find that electroweak dipole and four-fermion semi-leptonic operators involving light quarks are already strongly constrained by τ decays, while operators involving the c and b quarks present more promising discovery potential for the EIC. An analysis of three models of leptoquarks confirms the expectations based on the SMEFT results. We also identify future directions needed to maximize the reach of the EIC in CLFV searches: these include an optimization of the τ tagger in hadronic channels, an exploration of background suppression through tagging b and c jets in the final state, and a global fit by turning on all SMEFT couplings, which will likely reveal new discovery windows for the EIC.

Background:Gut microbiota has been identified as an imbalance in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a novel method to restore microbiota and treat IBS patients.ObjectiveTo conduct a meta-analysis and estimate the efficacy and safety of FMT for the treatment of IBS patients with subgroup analyses to explore the most effective way of FMT for IBS.MethodsAll eligible studies were searched from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library through multiple search strategies. Data were extracted from studies comprising the following criteria: double-blind, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared the efficacy of FMT with placebo for adult patients (≥18 years old) with IBS. A meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the summary relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).ResultsA total of seven RCTs comprising 489 subjects were eligible for this meta-analysis. Pooled data showed no significant improvement of global IBS symptoms in patients with FMT compared with placebo (RR = 1.34; 95% CI 0.75–2.41, p = 0.32). A significant heterogeneity was observed among the studies (I2 = 83%, p < 0.00001). There was no significant evidence of funnel plot asymmetry (Egger's test, p = 0.719; Begg's test, p = 1.000), indicating no existence of publication bias. Subgroup analyses revealed that FMT operated by invasive routes, including gastroscope, colonoscope, and nasojejunal tube, significantly improved global IBS symptoms (RR = 1.96; 95% CI 1.23–3.11, p = 0.004) with heterogeneity (I2 = 57%, p = 0.06) and an NNT of 3 (95% CI 2–14). However, FMT delivered via oral capsules showed a negative impact on patients with IBS (RR = 0.56; 95% CI 0.33–0.96, p = 0.03) with a low heterogeneity (I2 = 39%, p = 0.2) and an NNH of 3 (95% CI 2–37).ConclusionThe current evidence from RCTs with all routes of FMT does not show significant global improvement in patients with IBS. However, FMT operated by invasive routes significantly improved global IBS symptoms.

BackgroundsDiabetic retinopathy (DR), especially proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), is the major cause of irreversible blindness in the working-age population. Increasing evidence indicates that immune cells and the inflammatory microenvironment play an important role during PDR development. Herein, we aim to explore the immune landscape of PDR and then identify potential biomarkers correlated with specific infiltrating immune cells.MethodsWe mined and re-analyzed PDR-related datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Using the cell-type identification by estimating relative subsets of RNA transcripts (CIBERSORT) algorithm, we investigated the infiltration of 22 types of immune cells in all selected samples; analyses of differences and correlations between infiltrating cells were used to reveal the immune landscape of PDR. Thereafter, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) and differential expression analysis were applied to identify the hub genes on M2 macrophages that may affect PDR progression.ResultsSignificant differences were found between infiltration levels of immune cells in fibrovascular membranes (FVMs) from PDR and normal retinas. The percentages of follicular helper T cells, M1 macrophages, and M2 macrophages were increased significantly in FVMs. Integrative analysis combining the differential expression and co-expression revealed the M2 macrophage-related hub genes in PDR. Among these, COL5A2, CALD1, COL6A3, CORO1C, and CALU showed increased expression in FVM and may be potential biomarkers for PDR.ConclusionsOur findings provide novel insights into the immune mechanisms involved in PDR. COL5A2, CALD1, COL6A3, CORO1C, and CALU are M2 macrophage-related biomarkers, further study of these genes could inform novel ideas and basis for the understanding of disease progression and targeted treatment of PDR.

Abstract Due to the complex physiological structure, microenvironment and multiple physiological barriers, traditional anti‐cancer drugs are severely restricted from reaching the tumour site. Cell‐penetrating peptides (CPPs) are typically made up of 5–30 amino acids, and can be utilised as molecular transporters to facilitate the passage of therapeutic drugs across physiological barriers. Up to now, CPPs have widely been used in many anti‐cancer treatment strategies, serving as an excellent potential choice for oncology treatment. However, their drawbacks, such as the lack of cell specificity, short duration of action, poor stability in vivo, compatibility problems (i.e. immunogenicity), poor therapeutic efficacy and formation of unwanted metabolites, have limited their further application in cancer treatment. The cellular uptake mechanisms of CPPs involve mainly endocytosis and direct penetration, but still remain highly controversial in academia. The CPPs‐based drug delivery strategy could be improved by clever design or chemical modifications to develop the next‐generation CPPs with enhanced cell penetration capability, stability and selectivity. In addition, some recent advances in targeted cell penetration that involve CPPs provide some new ideas to optimise CPPs.

Introduction and objectives: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most malignant digestive tumors, and its insidious onset and rapid progression are the main reasons for the difficulty in effective treatment. Lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase 1 (LPCAT1) is a key enzyme that regulates phospholipid metabolism of the cell membrane. However, the mechanism by which LPCAT1 regulates HCC metastasis remains unknown. This study aimed to explore its biological function and potential mechanisms concerning migration and invasion in HCC. Materials and methods: LPCAT1 expression in HCC tissues and its association with clinical outcomes were investigated by western blotting and bioinformatic methods, respectively. The role of LPCAT1 in migration and invasion was assessed via Transwell assays. The expression pattern of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers was quantified by western blotting. The biological behaviors of LPCAT1 in vivo were evaluated using xenograft tumor models and caudal vein metastatic models. Signaling pathways related to LPCAT1 were predicted using gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and further confirmed by western blotting. Results: LPCAT1 expression was significantly upregulated in HCC tissues and indicated a poor prognosis of HCC patients. Several EMT-related markers were found to be regulated by LPCAT1. HCC cells overexpressing LPCAT1 exhibited remarkably high migration and invasion capacities, upregulated expression of mesenchymal markers and reduced E-cadherin expression. In vivo, LPCAT1 promoted HCC pulmonary metastasis. Furthermore, the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway was confirmed to be activated by LPCAT1. Conclusions: LPCAT1 could serve as a promising biomarker of HCC and as a novel therapeutic target for the treatment of metastatic HCC.
