Abstract

Nous avons conçu et construit un système optique de synthèse d’ondes hyperfréquences, millimétriques et submillimétriques à très bas bruit de phase. Les résultats préliminaires montrent une densité spectrale de bruit de phase à 10 kHz de la porteuse d’une onde à 9 GHz limitée par l’appareil de mesure. Pour les bruits plus près de la porteuse, le bruit de phase est limité par une modulation d’amplitude résiduelle : le système est en cours de modifications.

107. Oxidation of crystalline Si in an O[sub 2] plasma: Growth kinetics and oxide characterization.

Abstract

The growth of anodic oxides of crystalline Si in an O[sub 2] plasma has been studied. The kinetics are found to follow those expected when neutral O atoms in the plasma capture an electron at the substrate surface and diffuse through the growing oxide under the influence of an applied positive electric field. The oxides have been characterized using infrared spectroscopy, glancing incidence x-ray reflectometry, and electric capacitance/voltage measurements. Shifts to lower wave numbers of the transverse and longitudinal optic infrared modes associated with the asymmetric stretch of the bridging O's with respect to thermally grown oxide values are observed. We conclude that these shifts result from structural modifications induced by ultraviolet photons present in the O plasma. A simple model suggests that the plasma grown oxides have a density ∼3.8% larger than thermal SiO[sub 2] and an average Si-O-Si bridging bond angle ∼1.6° smaller. The plasma grown oxides are inhomogeneous in the volume, the bond angle shift increasing to ∼-2.3°, and the density decreasing to +2% with respect to thermal oxide near the Si substrate/SiO[sub 2] interface. X-ray reflectivity data, which are consistent with film inhomogeneity, enable us to determine the film thickness and surface (air/SiO[sub 2]) roughness. The latter is always ≤ 1 nm. Electrical measurements suggest that the oxides contain fixed oxide charges and interface states which can be reduced by low temperature annealing. Abstract

We report theoretical and experimental evidence of chaotic pulses with excitable-like properties in an optoradiofrequency oscillator based on a self-injected dual-frequency laser. The chaotic attractor involved in the dynamics produces pulses that, albeit chaotic, are quite regular: They all have similar amplitudes, and are almost periodic in time. Thanks to these features, the system displays properties that are similar to those of excitable systems. In particular, the pulses exhibit a threshold-like response, of well-defined amplitude, to perturbations, and it appears possible to define a refractory time. International audience; Nous montrons ici que la modélisation approchée 3D de particules (transparent ou opaque), ou de bulles de gaz est possible au moyen de la théorie scalaire de Fresnel. Cette modélisation au moyen des polynômes de Zernike pour obtenir l'expression mathématique de la distribution d'intensité est comparée à la théorie rigoureuse de Lorenz-Mie (LMT). A partir de cette modélisation, lors de la restitution par transformation de Fourier fractionnaire (FRFT) de l'image de la particule ou de la bulle, un spot lumineux dans l'image restituée est mis en évidence que ce soit du point de vue la théorie rigoureuse comme de la théorie scalaire.

Abstract

National audience; Thermal disinfestations of flour mill structures and equipment were traditionally used before the 1960’s, but they have been replaced by methyl bromide fumigation until the international ban of methyl bromide in 2005. During the last decade, heat disinfestation of flour mills was developed in Northern America and in some European countries from the 2000’s workshops of heat disinfestation of wheat mills were carried out. In France, the first industrial application of this technology was attempted in 2010 for the disinfestation of a large wheat mill and was carried out by Agronet Company in collaboration with INRA Research Laboratory in Bordeaux. The heating of the flour mill was performed from electric heat generators of Thermonox® technology (Germany). The electric heaters are forced heat air ventilators enabling to reach the target temperature of 50 to 55 °C in about 10-12 h in all parts of the mill. Then, temperature is maintained at this level during 24 to 36 h and optimized from the indications of temperature sensors in order to obtain complete mortality of insects, whatever their development stage. Encaged insects (Tribolium castaneum and Rhyzopertha dominica) placed in the mill during mill heating were killed at more than 97%. Very few survivals were only observed on the floor at the ground level of the mill. The reproductive capacity of individuals surviving thermal exposure was severely reduced. This first industrial application of heat disinfestation process to a large wheat mill confirmed the results of laboratory studies performed earlier at INRA Laboratory. The economic evaluation of the heat treatment in the conditions described above revealed that it is competitive compared to fumigation with similar requirements in the preparation of the building before treatment. This technology seems very promising for periodic eradication of insect colonies in cereal processing industries without use of pesticide.

Abstract

International audience; Le premier laser à fibre dopé aux ions de terres rares fonctionna au tout début des années 60. Il fournissait quelques milliwatts autour de 1 m. Les décades suivantes virent très peu d'améliorations tant du côté des laboratoires que du point de vue industriel. La dernière décennie (1995/2005) vit se concrétiser la seconde révolution des lasers à fibres. Déjà kilowatt en continu, ils atteignent désormais les 1013 watts/cm2 avec des impulsions de la centaine de femtoseconde. Lors de cette présentation nous passerons en revue les potentialités des lasers à fibre. Nous décrirons les verrous technologiques qui ont été levés ces dix dernières années pour les régimes CW mais aussi femtosecondes. Nous montrerons également comment la prochaine génération de fibres optiques actuellement en développement permettra d'offrir des sources stables et de très haute puissance pour l'avenir proche.

Abstract

We propose using the circle polynomials to describe a particle’s transmission function in a digital holography setup. This allows both opaque and phase particles to be determined. By means of this description, we demonstrate that it is possible to estimate the digital in-line hologram produced by a spherical particle. The experimental intensity distribution due to an opaque micro-inclusion is compared to the theoretical one obtained by our new model. Moreover, the simulated hologram and reconstructed image of the particle by an optimal fractional Fourier transformation under the opaque disk, quadratic phase, and quasi-spherical phase approximation are compared with the results obtained by simulating holograms by the Lorenz–Mie Theory (LMT). The Zernike coefficients corresponding to the considered particles are evaluated using the double exponential (DE) method which is optimal in various respects.

Abstract

In this publication, the modelisation of an air bubble as inclusion in a droplet is treated from scalar theory point of view (Fresnel’s theory). The elaborated model is compared with Lorenz–Mie scattering theory and with an experimental results. Circle polynomials and scaled pupil function are the background of this work to take into account the critical angle effect that arises at a transition from a higher index to a lower index medium. Abstract

Pure-shear and simple-shear models provide interpretations of sedimentary basins formed by extension of crust and lithosphere of normal thickness. Devonian basins of western Norway developed during collapse of the thickened Caledonian crust and return to a crust and lithosphere of normal thickness. Because extension did not thin the lithosphere to less than its normal thickness, no thermal subsidence phase followed the initial subsidience.

146. Phase and intensity dynamics of a two-frequency laser submitted to resonant frequency-shifted feedback

Abstract

We propose an experimental and theoretical study of the dynamical regimes observed when the two modes of a two-frequency solid-state laser are coupled by frequency-shifted optical feedback. The detuning associated to the feedback is close to the frequency of the laser relaxation oscillations. Special attention is devoted to the dynamics of the phase of the beat note between the modes relative to the phase of an external radio-frequency reference. In particular, we analyze in detail the transition from phase locking to the external reference to phase drift. This transition occurs through a window of frequency locking without phase locking. Furthermore, a large variety of dynamical behaviors, such as weak intensity modulation, self-pulsing, and chaos, are experimentally found. These results are successfully reproduced by a theoretical model based on coupled rate equations. Abstract

We propose in this paper an analytical solution to the problem of scalar diffraction of a partially coherent beam by an opaque disk. This analytical solution is applied in digital in-line holography of particles. We demonstrate that the reconstruction by means of fractional Fourier transformation is still possible when a spatially partially coherent beam is used. Numerical simulations and experiments have been carried out.
