Coccinella septempunctata (ladybird) is one of the foremost natural predators that feed on aphids. Thus, C. septempunctata serves as an effective biological control agent in integrated pest management (IPM) programs. To supplement the activity of biological control agents, IPM programs often incorporate chemical pesticides to bolster crop protection. To evaluate the effects of a potent insecticide, tolfenpyrad, on C. septempunctata, we tested the sublethal effects of tolfenpyrad on all developmental stages of the life cycle of C. septempunctata and its effects on the next generation. For sublethal testing of the parent generation, the LR50 of tolfenpyrad for C. septempunctata was determined to range from 1.04 to 8.43 g a.i. /hm2 within a set exposure period, while the hazard quotient (HQ) values were above our threshold value of 2 during the entire observation period. These data indicated a potential toxicity risk from tolfenpyrad exposure. The no observed effect application rates (NOERs) of tolfenpyrad on parents (F0) were determined for survival (0.485 g a.i. /hm2), developmental time of pupation (0.242 g a.i. /hm2), and fecundity (0.485 g a.i. /hm2). Application of sublethal doses to unexposed progeny (F1) of exposed parents, prolonged the L1 (1st instar of larvae) and L2 (2nd instar of larvae) stage, while the total longevity, intrinsic rate of increase (r), finite rate of increase (γ), net reproductive rate (R0), and mean generation time (T) were significantly reduced. These results demonstrated the negative influence of sublethal concentrations of tolfenpyrad on C. septempunctata and its persistent effects on subsequent generations.

Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) have been successfully employed to enhance the efficiency of inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells due to their facile low-temperature processing and superior device performance. Nevertheless, depositing uniform and dense SAMs with high surface coverage on metal oxide substrates remains a critical challenge. In this work, we propose a holistic strategy to construct composite hole transport layers (HTLs) by co-adsorbing mixed SAMs (MeO-2PACz and 2PACz) onto the surface of the H2O2-modified NiOx layer. The results demonstrate that the conductivity of the NiOx bulk phase is enhanced due to the H2O2 modification, thereby facilitating carrier transport. Furthermore, the hydroxyl-rich NiOx surface promotes uniform and dense adsorption of mixed SAM molecules while enhancing their anchoring stability. In addition, the energy level alignment at the interface is improved due to the utilization of mixed SAMs in an optimized ratio. Furthermore, the perovskite film crystal growth is facilitated by the uniform and dense composite HTLs. As a result, the power conversion efficiency of PSCs based on composite HTLs is boosted from 22.26% to 23.16%, along with enhanced operational stability. This work highlights the importance of designing and constructing NiOx/SAM composite HTLs as an effective strategy for enhancing both the performance and stability of inverted PSCs. A new dual-frequency stratospheric–tropospheric (ST) and meteor radar has been built and installed at the Langfang Observatory in northern China. It utilizes a new two-frequency system design that allows interleaved operation at 53.8 MHz for ST mode and at 35.0 MHz for meteor mode, thus optimizing performance for both ST wind retrieval and meteor trail detection. In dedicated meteor mode, the daily meteor count rate reaches over 40 000 and allows wind estimation at finer time resolutions than the 1 h typical of most meteor radars. The root mean square uncertainty of the ST wind measurements is better than 2 m s -1 when estimating the line of best fit with radiosonde winds. Preliminary observation results for 1 month of winter gravity wave (GW) momentum fluxes in the mesosphere, lower stratosphere and troposphere are also presented. Background: Antral follicles consist of an oocyte cumulus complex surrounding by somatic cells, including mural granulosa cells as the inner layer and theca cells as the outsider layer. The communications between oocytes and granulosa cells have been extensively explored in in vitro studies, however, the role of oocyte-derived factor GDF9 on in vivo antral follicle development remains elusive due to lack of an appropriate animal model. Clinically, the phenotype of GDF9 variants needs to be determined. Methods: Whole-exome sequencing (WES) was performed on two unrelated infertile women characterized by an early rise of estradiol level and defect in follicle enlargement. Besides, WES data on 1,039 women undergoing ART treatment were collected. A Gdf9Q308X/S415T mouse model was generated based on the variant found in one of the patients. Results: Two probands with bi-allelic GDF9 variants (GDF9His209GlnfsTer6/S428T, GDF9Q321X/S428T) and eight GDF9S428T heterozygotes with normal ovarian response were identified. In vitro experiments confirmed that these variants caused reduction of GDF9 secretion, and/or alleviation in BMP15 binding. Gdf9Q308X/S415T mouse model was constructed, which recapitulated the phenotypes in probands with abnormal estrogen secretion and defected follicle enlargement. Further experiments in mouse model showed an earlier expression of STAR in small antral follicles and decreased proliferative capacity in large antral follicles. In addition, RNA sequencing of granulosa cells revealed the transcriptomic profiles related to defective follicle enlargement in the Gdf9Q308X/S415T group. One of the downregulated genes, P4HA2 (a collagen related gene), was found to be stimulated by GDF9 protein, which partly explained the phenotype of defective follicle enlargement. Conclusions: GDF9 bi-allelic variants contributed to the defect in antral follicle development. Oocyte itself participated in the regulation of follicle development through GDF9 paracrine effect, highlighting the essential role of oocyte-derived factors on ovarian response. To address the challenge in efficiently and accurately determining the moisture content of heated tobacco materials, accurate determination methods such as Karl Fischer, gas chromatography, and near-infrared spectroscopy were systematically compared and optimized. The mechanism of the effect of high doses of volatile substances on accuracy was investigated using glycerol as a representative. Based on this, a determination method and result correction models for the moisture content of heated tobacco material samples prepared by different production processes were established. The results showed that: 1) After optimizing the determination parameters, the spiked recoveries for Karl Fischer and gas chromatography methods were in the range of 99.50%-102.70% and 98.64%-108.70%, respectively. 2) To promote the efficiency of moisture content determination of heated tobacco materials during the production process, a polynomial moisture content correction model for using near-infrared spectrometry was established using the Karl Fischer method results as a baseline. The moisture content errors were reduced from 1.75% to 0.32% after the correction, which met the requirements for quality control in the actual production process. The combined Karl Fischer and near-infrared spectroscopy method is suitable for the moisture content determination in the whole process of heated tobacco material processing with both accuracy and efficiency, and easy to operate. The results from different studies are inconsistent regarding whether development potential correlated with embryo development speed after single euploid blastocyst transfer. The age-associated reproductive decline is not only because of the difference in aneuploidy rates but also because of metabolic and epigenetic changes of the embryos. Therefore, we aimed to assess the independent effect of embryo development speed on implantation potential in young women. A total of 326 young women who underwent preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic diseases with aneuploidy screening were analyzed. Day-5 and day-6 euploid blastocysts yielded similar implantation rates (65.20 vs. 61.22%). The odds ratio (OR) remained non-significant after adjusting for confounders (adjusted OR = 0.84, 95% confidence interval 0.52–1.36). There was a trend that day-6 euploid blastocysts had a higher miscarriage rate (13.33 vs. 9.20%). However, the live birth delivery rate of day-5 blastocysts was similar to that of day-6 blastocysts (59.20 vs. 53.06%). In the stratified analysis, live birth delivery rates were similar between day-5 and day-6 similarly graded euploid blastocysts (excellent and good, 62.04 vs. 64.71%; average, 58.73 vs. 53.70%; poor, 43.75 vs. 44.44%). Embryo development speed has no obvious impact on implantation competence in young women's vitrified/warmed euploid embryo transfer cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
