The bright sdO star HD127493 is known to be of mixed H/He composition and excellent archival spectra covering both optical and ultraviolet ranges are available. UV spectra play a key role as they give access to many chemical species that do not show spectral lines in the optical, such as iron and nickel. This encouraged the quantitative spectral analysis of this prototypical mixed H/He composition sdO star. We determined atmospheric parameters for HD127493 in addition to the abundance of C, N, O, Si, S, Fe, and Ni in the atmosphere using non-LTE model atmospheres calculated with TLUSTY/SYNSPEC. A comparison between the parallax distance measured by Hipparcos and the derived spectroscopic distance indicate that the derived atmospheric parameters are realistic. From our metal abundance analysis, we find a strong CNO signature and enrichment in iron and nickel.

Individual differences and a rather long-lasting reproductive cycle, as well as the relatively small number of oocytes that mature during one reproductive cycle makes it difficult to establish a cryopreserved stock of preimplantation embryos of the guineapig (Cavia porcellus) when compared with other laboratory rodents. Only a few data for superovulation protocols that can be used for routine laboratory use in guineapigs are available. However, a huge number of different strains exist for many purposes and the establishment of a frozen repository makes sense. Here, we describe the successful freezing of preimplatation embryos of the strain 2BS with a two-step freezing protocol in a freezing medium containing 1,2- propanediol as cryoprotectant. To examine the role of the Notch ligand Delta-4 on hematopoietic stem cells, human CD34+CD38low cord blood cells were cocultured on S17 cells transduced with transmembrane Delta-4 (mbD4/S17) or an empty vector (C/S17). By the end of a 3-week culture, mbD4/S17 induced a 25-fold reduction in nucleated cell production, as compared to C/S17, by maintaining a higher proportion of cells in G0/G1 phase. A specific retention of a high proportion of CD34+ cells throughout the culture was observed with mbD4/S17, contrary to C/S17. Although mbD4/S17 promoted expansion of cells with the phenotype of committed lymphoid precursors (CD34+CD7+CD45RA+), these cells still retained their myeloid differentiation potential. mbD4/S17 maintained a higher LTC-IC frequency in output CD34+ cells, compared to C/S17, as in the subsets of cells having completed the same number of divisions on mbD4/S17. A Delta4-Fc protein (extracellular part of human Delta4 fused to Fc human IgG1 portion), immobilized on plastic, also reduced cell production and retained the LTC-IC potential. Transplantation of cells grown on mbD4/S17 into NOD/SCID mice showed no significant enhancement of the long-term repopulating ability. Thus, Delta4 appears to inhibit hematopoietic stem cell proliferation, in association with the maintenance of short-term lymphoid and myeloid repopulation capacity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hot subdwarfs (sdO/B) are the stripped helium cores of red giants formed via binary interactions. Close hot subdwarf binaries with massive white dwarf companions have been proposed as possible progenitors of thermonuclear supernovae type Ia (SN Ia). If the supernova is triggered by stable mass transfer from the helium star, the companion should survive the explosion and should be accelerated to high velocities. The hypervelocity star US 708 is regarded as the prototype for such an ejected companion. To find more of those objects we conducted an extensive spectroscopic survey. Candidates for such fast stars have been selected from the spectroscopic database of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and several ground-based proper-motion surveys. Follow-up spectroscopy has been obtained with several 4m- to 10m-class telescopes. Combining the results from quantitative spectroscopic analyses with space-based astrometry from Gaia Early Data Release 3 (EDR3) we determined the atmospheric and kinematic parameters of 53 fast hot subdwarf stars. None of these stars is unbound to the Galaxy, although some have Galactic restframe velocities close to the Galactic escape velocity. 21 stars are apparently single objects, that crossed the Galactic disc within their lifetimes in the sdO/B stage and could be regarded as potential candidates for the SN Ia ejection scenario. However, the properties of the full sample are more consistent with a pure old Galactic halo population. We therefore conclude that the fast sdO/B stars we found are likely to be extreme halo stars. Azilsartan has been shown to have greater blood pressure-lowering effects than other angiotensin-receptor blockers (ARBs), and the debate regarding the superiority of chlorthalidone over hydrochlorothiazide has been ongoing for years. The combination is unique because it is the first to partner an ARB with this, possibly more effective, diuretic. This review will address trials involving both components of this drug, as well as phase III trials involving the fixed-combination product.
