Quasi‐2D hybrid halide perovskites have drawn considerable attention due to their improved stability and facile tunability compared to 3D perovskites. The expansiveness of possibilities has thus far been limited by the difficulty in incorporating large ligands into thin‐film devices. Here, a bulky bi‐thiophene 2T ligand is focused on to develop a solvent system around creating strongly vertically‐aligned (2T)2(MA)6Pb7I22 (n = 7) quasi‐2D perovskite films. By starting with a poorly coordinating solvent (gamma‐butyrolactone) and adding a small amount of dimethylsulfoxide and methanol, it is found that vertical orientation and z‐uniformity is greatly improved. These are carefully examined and verified using grazing‐incidence wide‐angle X‐ray scattering analysis and advanced optical characterizations. These films are incorporated into champion solar cells that achieve a power conversion efficiency of 13.3%, with a short‐circuit current density of 18.9 mA cm‐2, an open‐circuit voltage of 0.96 V, and a fill factor of 73.8%. Furthermore, the quasi‐2D absorbing layers show excellent stability in moisture, remaining unchanged after hundreds of hours. In addition, 2T is compared with the more common ligands butylammonium and phenylethylammonium in this solvent system to develop heuristics and deeper understanding of how to incorporate large ligands into stable photovoltaic devices. Rational design of heterojunctions using nanostructured materials is a useful strategy for achieving efficient interfacial charge separation in photovoltaics. Heterojunctions can be constructed between the organic ligands and the inorganic layers in two-dimensional perovskites, taking advantage of their highly programmable structures. Here, we investigate charge transfer and recombination at the interface between the thiophene-based semiconducting ligands and the lead halide inorganic sublattices using time-resolved photoluminescence and transient reflection spectroscopy in single two-dimensional perovskite crystals. These measurements demonstrate the charge transfer time around 10 ps and long-lived charge-separated state over the nanosecond time scale in two-dimensional ligand-perovskite heterostructures. The efficient charge transfer processes coupled with slow charge recombination suggest the potential for improving exciton dissociation and charge transport in two-dimensional perovskite solar cells. Commercialization of halide perovskites in the semiconductor industry is hindered by their short-term stability. The instability of perovskites is closely interlinked with ionic diffusion. Historically, attempts to study diffusion in 2D perovskites mostly utilized electrical characterizations, but these characterizations pose a challenge in deconvoluting the impact of device architecture, interlayers, and ionic species. In this Perspective, we focus our attention on simple optical characterizations employed in the literature to investigate halide diffusion in 2D perovskites using lateral and vertical heterostructure platforms. We review the various synthesis techniques used for fabrication of halide perovskite heterostructures and discuss the qualitative and quantitative diffusion studies performed using these platforms. We discuss the numerical methods used to validate and supplement the experimental halide diffusion kinetics. Finally, we highlight the need to conduct further research on the impact of device operating conditions, lattice structure, and vacancy concentration on halide diffusion. Through this Perspective, we aim to emphasize the need of developing a comprehensive understanding of halide diffusion in perovskites for their successful deployment in optoelectronics. Technology advancements in history have often been propelled by material innovations. In recent years, two-dimensional (2D) materials have attracted substantial interest as an ideal platform to construct atomic-level material architectures. In this work, we design a reaction pathway steered in a very different energy landscape, in contrast to typical thermal chemical vapor deposition method in high temperature, to enable room-temperature atomic-layer substitution (RT-ALS). First-principle calculations elucidate how the RT-ALS process is overall exothermic in energy and only has a small reaction barrier, facilitating the reaction to occur at room temperature. As a result, a variety of Janus monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides with vertical dipole could be universally realized. In particular, the RT-ALS strategy can be combined with lithography and fliptransfer to enable programmable in-plane multiheterostructures with different out-of-plane crystal symmetry and electric polarization. Various characterizations have confirmed the fidelity of the precise single atomic layer conversion. Our approach for designing an artificial 2D landscape at selective locations of a single layer of atoms can lead to unique electronic, photonic, and mechanical properties previously not found in nature. Surprisingly, anionic interdiffusion coefficients for 2D perovskites with short aliphatic organic ligands (e.g. BA) are not much smaller than those of their 3D counterparts, suggesting the short aliphatic ligands are not effective in blocking the anion diffusion. Recently, the search for novel two-dimensional (2D) organic-inorganic halide perovskite materials has come to a renaissance. On the other hand, bulkier and more rigid organic conjugated ligands were found to inhibit halide interdiffusion much more effectively with estimated diffusion coefficient less than 10 SP -20 sp m SP 2 sp /s. One-dimensional ZnO nanostructures have shown great potential in electronics, optoelectronics and electromechanical devices owing to their unique physical and chemical properties. Most of these nanostructures were grown by equilibrium processes where the defects density is controlled by thermodynamic equilibrium. In this work, flash sintering, a non-equilibrium field-assisted processing method, has been used to synthesize ZnO nanostructures. By applying a high electric field and limiting a low current flow, ZnO nanorods grew uniformly by a vapor–liquid–solid mechanism due to the extreme temperatures achieved near the hot spot. High density basal stacking faults in the nanorods along with ultraviolet excitonic emission and a red emission under room temperature demonstrate the potential of defect engineering in nanostructures via the field-assisted growth method.
