Abstract

Analyzing eye movements of workers in safe and unsafe behaviors can reduce accidents. With a video-based method, the angular velocity of gaze direction (AVGD) represents micro-movements in gaze and angular velocity in saccade is used to analyze eye movements. A similar behavior simulation experiment is designed to collect operation videos, and an eye movement information extraction and processing framework is constructed to quantify and analyze eye movements. The results show that: the root mean square and movement frequency of AVGD can be used to recognize unsafe behavior; in operations with attention target fixation, compared with safe behavior, workers in unsafe behavior have higher angular velocity, movement frequency and turn frequency of eye movements; and in operations with attention target change, eye movement rules of workers in safe and unsafe behaviors depend on operation types. Abstract

A simpler and lower cost Reactive Ion Figuring (RIF) process was demonstrated, combining with flexible film photomasks and an algorithm of masking layers distribution for less iteration. As a novel alternative figuring technology, RIF with parallel removal mode and chemical removal mechanism has showed the actual potential for large segment class figuring, especially in mass production of lightweight optical membrane components. Although diffractive membrane optics has been expected to meet the requirement of large aperture space-based telescopes, the flexible membrane has so different properties from traditional materials that the desired geometrical form is hardly obtained by current ultra-precision surface manufacturing technologies. In this paper, a 300 mm aperture polyimide membrane substrate was figure-corrected by RIF from the initial figure error of 62 nm rms to the final figure error of ~20 nm rms in total effective figuring time of ~4.3 minutes. Film photomask lowered the cost of photomask fabrication down to less than two hundredths of that of quartz photomask fabrication. All distributions of protected regions and removed regions, i.e., the patterns to be fabricated onto film photomasks, were obtained from the transmitted wave-front map just at the start of the entire RIF process. After 2 iterations, it took ~4.3 min to figure this sample and the 20 nm RMS is obtained with a RMS convergence ratio of 3.1.

As an inflammatory driver, nucleotide-binding oligomerizing domain-1 (NOD1) is highly expressed in pulmonary inflammatory cells; however, the roles of NOD1 in COPD are unknown.Methods: A COPD mouse model was established by lipopolysaccharides tracheal instillation plus cigarette smoke (CS) exposure. NOD1 activation was induced by C12-iE-DAP (iE) treatment in both control and COPD mice. Inflammatory infiltration, pulmonary histological damage and gene expression were measured to evaluate the lung function of treated mice.Results: The results showed that NOD1 was up-regulated in COPD mice, which significantly exaggerated CS-induced impairment of lung function, demonstrated by increased airway resistance, functional residual capacity and pulmonary damages. Mechanistically, NOD1 activation strongly activated the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway and then increased inflammatory responses and promoted the secretion of inflammatory cytokines.Discussion: This study demonstrates that NOD1 is an important risk factor in the progression of COPD; therefore, targeting NOD1 in lung tissues is a potential strategy for COPD treatment.Keywords: COPD, pulmonary damage, inflammation, NOD1, TLR4/NF-κB signaling

Abstract

BACKGROUND The death toll of COVID-19 topped 170,000 in Europe by the end of May 2020. COVID-19 has caused an immense psychological burden on the population, especially among doctors and nurses who are faced with high infection risks and increased workload. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to compare the mental health of medical professionals with nonmedical professionals in different European countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. We hypothesized that medical professionals, particularly those exposed to COVID-19 at work, would have higher levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. We also aimed to determine their main stressors and most frequently used coping strategies during the crisis. METHODS A cross-sectional online survey was conducted during peak COVID-19 months in 8 European countries. The questionnaire included demographic data and inquired whether the participants were exposed to COVID-19 at work or not. Mental health was assessed via the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales32 (23.53)-21 (DASS-21). A 12-item checklist on preferred coping strategies and another 23-item questionnaire on major stressors were completed by medical professionals. RESULTS The sample (N=609) consisted of 189 doctors, 165 nurses, and 255 nonmedical professionals. Participants from France and the United Kingdom reported experiencing severe/extremely severe depression, anxiety, and stress more often compared to those from the other countries. Nonmedical professionals had significantly higher scores for depression and anxiety. Among medical professionals, no significant link was reported between direct contact with patients with COVID-19 at work and anxiety, depression, or stress. "Uncertainty about when the epidemic will be under control" caused the most amount of stress for health care professionals while "taking protective measures" was the most frequently used coping strategy among all participants. The forgotten topological index of a (molecule) graph is the sum of cubes of all its vertex degrees, which plays a significant role in measuring the branching of the carbon atom skeleton. It is meaningful and difficult to explore sufficient conditions for a given graph keeping certain properties in graph theory. In this paper, we mainly explore sufficient conditions in terms of the forgotten topological index for a graph to be ℓ-connected, ℓ-deficient, ℓ-Hamiltonian and ℓ−-independent, respectively. Abstract

The internal solitary waves, have properties of two-way shear profile, significant velocity and acceleration, etc., which threaten the safety of deepwater floating systems in South China Sea (SCS), for the frequent occurrence and the high intensity of internal solitary waves in SCS. In recent years, offshore oil companies of China encountered many strong internal waves during its deepwater oil and gas exploration and development activities in South China Sea. However, the action mechanism of ISWs to floating structures is not understood clearly, and the internal solitary waves are classified as ocean current in API RP 2SK (3rd edition), therefore engineers ignore the velocity variance and long period “wave” characteristics in the design of floating structures. Furthermore, the offshore floating structures is oscillating under the action of environmental forces, due to the horizontal velocity of the platform is comparative to that of ISWs, thus fluid-body coupling is significant that one cannot analyse it by simply adding a specified ISW force time history to the floater. This paper proposes a new iterative updating method for ISW loading calculation considering the fluid-body coupling, and applied this method to a semi MODU, numerical study shows the iteration is efficient and the result is more reasonable compared to conventional method, and it is found that the maximal offset decreases significantly.

144. Simultaneous quantification of 18 bioactive constituents in Ziziphus jujubafruits by HPLC coupled with a chemometric method

Abstract

The fruit of Ziziphus jujubaMill., known as Hongzao (or Hong-Zao) in Chinese and cultivated in China for more than 4000 years, has shown to have hepatoprotective property. In previous study, we have isolated and identified 27 known compounds from Z. jujubafruits, which demonstrated anti-tumor activity.In this study, a high-performance liquid chromatography-diode-array detection-mass spectrometry (HPLC-DAD-MS) method was successfully applied to the simultaneous characterization and quantitation of 18 constituents in 28 Z. jujubasamples, comprised of 12 cultivars from different regions in China, by comparing their HPLC retention times, MS spectra, UV spectra, and NMR data with those of reference compounds. The quantitative method was validated with excellent linearity (R2> 0.999 1), preferable intra- and inter-day precisions (RSD < 2.78%), and good recoveries (94.96%–102.65%). The content variation of 18 compounds was analyzed by a chemometric method (hierarchical cluster analysis). In addition, these constituents showed protection against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) intoxicated HepG2 cell lines by decreasing lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) levels. Results in this study illustrated that the content of all 18 compounds examined has significant difference and variation among cultivars and extracts. The proposed method can serve as a prerequisite for quality control of bioactive compounds in Z. jujubaproducts.

Abstract

A graph is called supereulerian if it has a spanning eulerian subgraph. A graph is said to be hamiltonian if it has a spanning cycle. A nontrivial path is called a branch if it has only internal vertices of degree two and end vertices of degree not two. Let S be a set of branches of G , then S is called a branch cut if G − S has more components than G. A minimal branch cut is called a branch-bond. In this paper, we characterize one or pairs of those forbidden subgraphs that force a 2-edge-connected graph satisfying that every odd branch-bond has an edge branch to be supereulerian.
