Abstract

Camera traps are a widely used tool for monitoring wildlife with minimal human intervention. Their number can amount to several hundred, and the accumulated volume can reach several terabytes. Often, photos and videos contain empty frames that are created by accidental triggering of camera trap detectors, such as by wind. The staff of nature reserves must process the images manually and sort them by animal species. In our study we propose to consider a technology for analysing data from camera traps using a two-stage neural network processing. The task of the first stage was to separate empty images from non-empty images. To do this, using a comparative analysis, we identified the most optimal detector model from the YOLO series. The task of the second stage was to classify the objects found by the detector. For this purpose, a comparative analysis of the architectures of classifiers from the ResNet series was carried out. Based on the selected algorithms, a two-stage system for processing data from camera traps was created in the form of a graphical interface with the ability to work on any operating system. The software will significantly reduce the processing time of data from camera traps and simplify environmental analysis.

Abstract

Relevance of the researched problem is caused by the fact that today there is a requirement for a unique, generalized, theoretically and methodically elaborated budgeting mechanism disaggregating the aims of strategic level to the level of structural units of the company. The aim of article is to develop methodical provisions and practical recommendations to harmonize a budgeting mechanism of development companies on the basis of direct interrelation of current budgeting and strategic objectives of company development. The leading approach to a research of this problem is the classical approach allowing revealing sources and directions of financial resources application of commercial organizations and also ensuring their balance. The main results of a research are the expansion of a budgeting concept as a type of financial planning, the author’s technique of budgeting is suggested that is based on the indicators of assets turnover ratio, sales profitability and return on assets as the main characteristics of activity efficiency of a development company. Materials of the article can be useful in financial management enhancement and forming an effective budgeting mechanism in development companies. © 2016 Kovaleva et al.

Abstract

The article presents the results of soil and archaeological study of the pedo-sedimentation sequence formed in the floodplain of the Derkul River (West Kazakhstan). The aim of the study was to reconstruct the stages of the alluvial sedimentogenesis alternating with relatively prolonged spans of soil formation, corresponding to the periods of floodplain agricultural development. It was established that floodplain sediment layer started to form as a result of stream sedimentation in the early Holocene; then this stage was followed by the relatively long-term soil formation period (5.6–3.8 cal. yr BC) resulting in a humus quasi-gleyic soil in the low floodplain (120–200 cm). The last period of soil formation (4.6–3.6 cal. yr BC) the floodplain was developed by man, which is displayed by the identified cultural horizon containing artifacts and having increased phosphorus content. At the end of the Subboreal period the next stage of alluvial sedimentation, started by the changed river hydrology regime, was found to be chronologically separated from the stage of stationary development of the floodplain by settled humans.

Abstract

Purpose: To improve quality of newborn screening by tandem mass spectrometry with a novel approach made possible by the collaboration of 154 laboratories in 49 countries. Methods: A database of 767,464 results from 12,721 cases affected with 60 conditions was used to build multivariate pattern recognition software that generates tools integrating multiple clinically significant results into a single score. This score is determined by the overlap between normal and disease ranges, penetration within the disease range, differences between conditions, and weighted correction factors. Results: Ninety tools target either a single condition or the differential diagnosis between multiple conditions. Scores are expressed as the percentile rank among all cases with the same condition and are compared to interpretation guidelines. Retrospective evaluation of past cases suggests that these tools could have avoided at least half of 279 false-positive outcomes caused by carrier status for fatty-acid oxidation disorders and could have prevented 88% of known false-negative events. Conclusion: Application of this computational approach to raw data is independent from single analyte cutoff values. In Minnesota, the tools have been a major contributing factor to the sustained achievement of a false-positive rate below 0.1% and a positive predictive value above 60%. © 2012 American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics.

Abstract

PURPOSE:: To achieve clinical validation of cutoff values for newborn screening by tandem mass spectrometry through a worldwide collaborative effort. METHODS:: Cumulative percentiles of amino acids and acylcarnitines in dried blood spots of approximately 25-30 million normal newborns and 10,742 deidentified true positive cases are compared to assign clinical significance, which is achieved when the median of a disorder range is, and usually markedly outside, either the 99th or the 1st percentile of the normal population. The cutoff target ranges of analytes and ratios are then defined as the interval between selected percentiles of the two populations. When overlaps occur, adjustments are made to maximize sensitivity and specificity taking all available factors into consideration. RESULTS:: As of December 1, 2010, 130 sites in 45 countries have uploaded a total of 25,114 percentile data points, 565,232 analyte results of true positive cases with 64 conditions, and 5,341 cutoff values. The average rate of submission of true positive cases between December 1, 2008, and December 1, 2010, was 5.1 cases/day. This cumulative evidence generated 91 high and 23 low cutoff target ranges. The overall proportion of cutoff values within the respective target range was 42% (2,269/5,341). CONCLUSION:: An unprecedented level of cooperation and collaboration has allowed the objective definition of cutoff target ranges for 114 markers to be applied to newborn screening of rare metabolic disorders. © 2011 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

Abstract

The electrochemical behavior of amorphous and nanocrystalline soft magnetic Fe79P13Si5V3 alloy in a 0.1 M Na2SO4 solution has been studied. Mössbauer studies show that the electrochemical characteristics of the alloy are comparable with those of an Finemet Fe77Si13B7Nb2.1Cu0.9 alloy, whereas the studied alloy is inexpensive and can be prepared using natural alloy ferrophosphorus containing vanadium and silicon. Abstract

The transient collisional excitation (TCE) scheme was used to obtain generation of X-ray laser radiation on the 3p-3s transitions of the Ne-like Ti-ions at 10 TW SOKOL-P laser developed at RFNC-VNIITF. The Nd-laser light was focused in a line with length from 2 up to 8 mm and width of 30 microns. Two successive pulses irradiated the polished Ti-slab. The duration of prepulse was equal to 400 ps and a pumping pulse had duration of 4 ps; the delay between pulses equals to 1.5 ns. The Nd-laser energy was about of 10 J and the ratio of energy in prepulse and basic pulses was equal to 1:2. The grating spectrometer equipped with a focusing mirror and CCD detector was used for measurement of the X-ray laser line at 32.6 nm. A small signal gain about of 30 cm-1 was obtained in experiments with target length from 2 up to 4 mm. The 32.6 nm line radiation with energy about of 1 ¼J and divergence of 9 mrad were registered in SOKOL-P experiments with target length of 8 mm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
