Soybean (Glycine max L. Merril) has been cultivated in regions of lowland soils in crop rotation with irrigated rice in order to reduce the infestation of red rice and due to the attractive soybean value in the world market. Soybean cultivation under this condition is subject to possible soil flooding, requiring recommendations of genotypes adapted to this environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the grain yield of soybean genotypes grown in floodplain environment at three different sowing times. Cultivars used were A 6411 RG, A 7321 RG, BMX Apolo RR, BMX Ativa RR, BMX Energia RR, BMX Potência RR, BMX Turbo RR, IGRA RA 518 RR, IGRA RA 626 RR, IGRA RA 628 RR, NA 5909 RG , NS 6262 RR, NS 7100 RR, RA 728 RR and VMax RR; sown in October, November and December. The experimental design was 15 (cultivars) x 3 (times) factorial with 4 replicates. Significant differences were observed for sowing times and cultivars, as well as for the interaction between the two factors. Cultivars sown in November and December provided higher yields than those sown in October. BMX Turbo RR cultivar showed higher consistency for soybean yield in lowland, considering the sowing times evaluated. For early sowing (October and November), A 6411 RG cultivar presented higher grain yield compared to the other cultivars.

The paper reports the results of an experimental and multidisciplinary design research for the upcycling of a public residential building in the city of Sora to guarantee its architectural and environmental redevelopment, seismic improvement and energy efficiency. The project, drawn up on the basis of indications provided by a working group coordinated by Architect Renzo Piano, who promoted the initiative as senator for life, is supported by the Casa Italia Department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The institution plans on considering this project a model based on which guidelines can be defined to outline effective design and process strategies in terms of costs and social and environmental repercussions for similar interventions throughout the national territory.

Background: Our purpose is to describe the ultrasound findings, both with bi-dimensional and three-dimensional imaging, suggestive of spontaneous septostomy in monochorionic-diamniotic twin pregnancies. Methods: PubMed, Medline and reference lists were searched using “Spontaneous septostomy and twin pregnancy” as keywords. Seventeen articles reporting a total of 25 cases, adding our own, were included in the systematic review. Only English full text articles, the main purpose of which was to describe spontaneous septostomy in twin pregnancies, were included. Results: In our sample the major ultrasound sign arousing suspicion of spontaneous septostomy was found to be an absent or disrupted inter-twin membrane (79% of cases). Twins close to each-other were described in 33% of cases, while cord entanglement was suspected only in 27% of cases. We reported a lower antenatal detection of entanglement when compared with intrapartum evaluation (27% vs 59%). Adverse fetal outcomes occurred in 12% of cases, while 88% of cases were born alive. Conclusions: Spontaneous septostomy represents a diagnostic and clinical challenge for obstetrics providers. Clinicians must focus on ultrasound findings to close surveil fetal wellness and reduce both fetal and neonatal impairment.

Recent findings suggested that Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency underlies the pathophysiology of pain disorders, including migraine and headache. In models of medication overuse headache induced by sustained administration of sumatriptan or morphine, 2-AG levels were selectively depleted in the periaqueductal gray (PAG) and anandamide (AEA) increased in the cortex suggesting distinct regulation of the endocannabinoid system during headache pain. These results led to the hypothesis that blockade of DAGL, to reduce 2-AG levels would induce headache-like behaviors as a new, translationally relevant model of episodic headache. Our study investigated whether non-selective and selective blockade of DAGL, the main biosynthetic enzyme for 2-AG, induced periorbital and hind-paw allodynia, photophobia, anxiety-like behaviors, responsivity to abortive anti-migraine agents, and 2-AG/AEA levels. Injection of non-selective DAGL (DH376, 10 mg/kg, IP) and selective DAGLα (LEI106, 20 mg/kg, IP) inhibitors, but not DAGLβ agents, induced facial sensitivity in 100% and ∼60% of female and male rats, respectively, without induction of peripheral sensitivity. Notably, male rats showed significantly less sensitivity than female rats after DAGLα inhibition, suggesting sexual dimorphism in this mechanism. Importantly, LEI106 induced periorbital allodynia was attenuated by administration of the clinically available abortive antimigraine agents, sumatriptan and olcegepant. Selective DAGLα inhibition induced significant photophobia as measured by the light-dark box, without anxiety like behaviors or changes in voluntary movement. Analysis of AEA and 2-AG levels at the time of peak pain sensitivity revealed reductions in 2-AG in the visual cortex and periaqueductal gray (PAG), without altering anandamide or significantly increasing diacylglycerol levels. These results provide foundational evidence for DAGL-2AG in the induction of headache-like pain and photophobia without extracephalic allodynia, thus modeling the clinical episodic migraine. Mechanistically, behavioral measures of headache sensitivity after DAGL inhibition suggests that reduced 2-AG signaling in the cortex and PAG, but not the trigeminal nucleus caudalis or trigeminal ganglia, drives headache initiation. Therefore, episodic DAGL inhibition, which reduces the time, cost, and invasiveness of currently accepted models of headache, may fill the need for episodic migraine/headache models mirroring clinical presentation. Moreover, use of this approach may provide an avenue to study the transition from episodic to chronic headache.

Introduction: Echocardiography (ECHO) with color flow Doppler is considered as the gold standard to identify a hemodynamic patent ductus arteriosus (hs-PDA). However, the optimal diagnostic and therapeutic management for newborns with hs-PDA is still controversial. Objective: To report cases of use of chelation therapy during pregnancy which resulted in favorable outcomes for the babies. Materials and methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we described the evolution and outcome of 9 pregnancies in Italian thalassemic women who received deferoxamine (DFO) inadvertently during early pregnancy. Results: The use of deferoxamine during first trimester did not lead to adverse effects on the fetus or cause major complications for the gestation, although an increase in iron burden was observed after suspending chelation therapy. Conclusion: In our experience, iron-chelation therapy might be administrated in pregnancy where the benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the baby. Abstract Background To evaluate load and stress distribution on Delaire facemask (FM) during maxillary protraction in class III growing patients by means of finite element analysis (FEA). A three-dimensional geometry of a Delaire FM was reconstructed from the original CAD 3D prototype, using software package (ANSYS 5.7). FM presented forehead and chin supports and stainless steel framework characterized by two lateral vertical bars connected to a crossbar with two pawls for elastic attachment. Two traction intensities (7.8 and 9.8 N) were applied on the FM pawls along three different downward inclined directions with respect to the occlusal plane (0°, 30°, or 50°, respectively). Resulting stresses and deformations were then tested through the von Mises yield criterion in order to underline the FM wear performance. Results The analysis showed that higher stresses and deformations are mostly related to axial forces of 9.8 N rather than 7.8 N. Stresses also progressively increased with increasing downward force inclinations (0°, 30°, and 50° with respect to the occlusal plane). The overall tensions were inferior to the limit of the elastic behavior (yield point) characterizing the material they are applied on. Thus, the FM structure absorbed the load applied with an elastic deformation of the lateral and horizontal bars. Conclusions Resulting stresses and deformations were directly proportional to protraction load amounts and to increasing downward inclination of forces. In all tested conditions, protraction forces were not able to determine plastic deformation on FM structure compromising its performance and efficiency.
