We identified 132,684 clusters in the redshift range of 0.05

The Origem Loop in the Galactic anticentre was discovered in 1970s and suggested to be a large supernova remnant. It was argued later to be a chance superposition of unrelated radio sources. We attempt to understand the properties of the Origem Loop. Available multi-frequency radio data were used for the determination of radio spectra of different parts of the Origem Loop and the polarization properties of the loop. Newly available sensitive observations show that the Origem Loop is a loop of more than 6 deg in diameter. It consists of a large non-thermal arc in the north, which we call the Origem Arc, and several known thermal H II regions in the south. Polarized radio emission associated with the arc was detected at 6 cm, revealing tangential magnetic fields. The arc has a brightness temperature spectral index of \beta = -2.70, indicating its non-thermal nature as a supernova remnant. We estimate the distance to the Origem Arc to be about 1.7 kpc, similar to those of some H II regions in the southern part of the loop. The very small braking index of PSR J1734-3333, $n=0.9\pm0.2$, challenges the current theories of braking mechanisms in pulsars. We present a possible interpretation that this pulsar is surrounded by a fall-back disk and braked by it. A modified braking torque is proposed based on the competition between the magnetic energy density of a pulsar and the kinetic energy density of a fall-back disk. With this torque, a self-similar disk can fit all the observed parameters of PSR J1734-3333 with natural initial parameters. In this regime, the star will evolve to the region having anomalous X-ray pulsars and soft gamma repeaters in the $P-\dot{P}$ diagram in about 20000 years and stay there for a very long time. The mass of the disk around PSR J1734-3333 in our model is about $10M_{\oplus}$, similar to the observed mass of the disk around AXP 4U 0142+61., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, 1 table

The origin of the 6.67 hr period X-ray source, 1E161348-5055, in the young supernova remnant RCW 103 is puzzling. We propose that it may be the descendant of a Thorne-Zytkow Object (TZO). A TZO may at its formation have a rapidly spinning neutron star as a core, and a slowly rotating envelope. We found that the core could be braked quickly to an extremely long spin period by the coupling between its magnetic field and the envelope, and that the envelope could be disrupted by some powerful bursts or exhausted via stellar wind. If the envelope is disrupted after the core has spun down, the core will become an extremely long-period compact object, with a slow proper motion speed, surrounded by a supernova-remnant-like shell. These features all agree with the observations of 1E161348-5055. TZOs are expected to have produced extraordinary high abundances of lithium and rapid proton process elements that would remain in the remnants and could be used to test this scenario., Comment: 6 pages

We investigate the influence of major mergers on the radio emission of elliptical galaxies. We use a complete sample of close pairs, which contains 475 merging and 1828 non-merging paired elliptical galaxies of M_r<-21.5 selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. In addition, a control sample of 2000 isolated field galaxies is used for comparison. We cross-identify the optical galaxies with the radio surveys of FIRST and NVSS. We find that the radio fraction of merging paired galaxies is about 6%, which is slightly higher than the 5% obtained for non-merging paired galaxies, although these values are consistent with each other owing to the large uncertainty caused by the limited sample. The radio fraction is twice as that of isolated galaxies, which is less than 3%. Radio emission of elliptical galaxies is only slightly affected by major mergers, but predominantly depends on their optical luminosities. We consider the curvature emission properties from relativistic particles streaming along magnetic field lines and co-rotating with pulsar magnetosphere. The co-rotation affects the trajectories of the particles and hence the emission properties, especially the polarization. We consider the modification of the particle velocity and acceleration due to the co-rotation. Curvature radiation from a single particle is calculated using the approximation of a circular path to the particle trajectory. Curvature radiation from particles at a given height actually contains the contributions from particles streaming along all the nearby field lines around the tangential point, forming the emission cone of 1/{\gamma}. The polarization patterns from the emission cone are distorted by the additional rotation, more serious for emission from a larger height. Net circular polarization can be generated by the density gradient in the emission cone. For three typical density models in the form of core, cone and patches, we calculate the polarization profiles for emission generated at a given height. We find that the circular polarization could have a single sign or sign reversal, depending on the density gradient along the rotation phase. The polarization profiles of the total curvature radiation from the whole open field line region, calculated by adding the emission from all possible heights, are similar to that from a dominating emission height. The circular polarization of curvature radiation has sign reversals in the patchy emission, while it has a single sign for the core emission, and is negligible for the cone emission., Comment: 13pages,20figures

Using the photometric redshifts of galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III (SDSS-III), we identify 132,684 clusters in the redshift range of 0.051.0*10^{14} M_{\odot} in the redshift range of 0.050.42 are less complete and have a biased smaller richness than the real one due to incompleteness of member galaxies. We compare our sample with other cluster samples, and find that more than 90% of previously known rich clusters of 0.05

We have finished the 6cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane using the Urumqi 25m radio telescope. It covers 10deg

We calculate the correlation function of 13,904 galaxy clusters of z \leq 0.4 selected from the cluster catalog of Wen, Han & Liu. The correlation function can be fitted with a power-law model \xi(r)=(r/R_0)^{\gamma} on the scales of 10h^(-1)Mpc \leq r \leq 50h^(-1)Mpc, with a larger correlation length of R_0=18.84\pm0.27 h^(-1)Mpc for clusters with a richness of R \geq 15 and a smaller length of R_0=16.15 \pm 0.13 h^(-1)Mpc for clusters with a richness of R \geq 5. The power law index of \gamma=2.1 is found to be almost the same for all cluster subsamples. A pronounced baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) peak is detected at r ~ 110 h^(-1)Mpc with a significance of ~ 1.9\sigma. By analyzing the correlation function in the range of 20 h^(-1)Mpc \leq r \leq 200 h^(-1)Mpc, we find the constraints on distance parameters are D_v(0.276)=1077\pm55(1\sigma) Mpc and h=0.73 \pm 0.039 (1\sigma), which are consistent with the WMAP 7-year cosmology. However, the BAO signal from the cluster sample is stronger than expected and leads to a rather low matter density \Omega_m h^2=0.093\pm0.0077 (1\sigma), which deviates from the WMAP 7-year result by more than 3 \sigma. To investigate the missing compact star of Supernova 1987A, we analyzed both the cooling and the heating processes of a possible compact star based on the upper limit of observational X-ray luminosity. From the cooling process we found that a solid quark-cluster star, which has a stiffer equation of state than that of conventional liquid quark star, has a heat capacity much smaller than a neutron star. It can cool down quickly, which can naturally explain the non-detection of a point source (neutron star or quark star) in X-ray band. On the other hand, we consider the heating process from magnetospheric activity and possible accretion, and obtain some constraints to the parameters of a possible pulsar. We conclude that a solid quark-cluster star can be fine with the observational limit in a large and acceptable parameter space. A pulsar with a short period and a strong magnetic field (or with a long period and a weak field) would has luminosity higher than the luminosity limit if the optical depth is not large enough to hide the compact star. The constraints of the pulsar parameters can be tested if the central compact object in 1987A is discovered by advanced facilities in the future., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures (submitted to MNRAS)

We study the spectral and polarization properties of supernova remnants (SNRs) based on our 6cm survey data. The observations were taken from the Sino-German 6cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane. By using the integrated flux densities at 6cm together with measurements at other wavelengths from the literature we derive the global spectra of 50 SNRs. In addition, we use the observations at 6cm to present the polarization images of 24 SNRs. We derived integrated flux densities at 6cm for 51 small SNRs with angular sizes less than 1 degree. Global radio spectral indices were obtained in all the cases except for Cas A. For SNRs G15.1-1.6, G16.2-2.7, G16.4-0.5, G17.4-2.3, G17.8-2.6, G20.4+0.1, G36.6+2.6, G43.9+1.6, G53.6-2.2, G55.7+3.4, G59.8+1.2, G68.6-1.2, and G113.0+0.2, the spectra have been significantly improved. From our analysis we argue that the object G16.8-1.1 is probably an HII region instead of a SNR. Cas A shows a secular decrease in total intensity, and we measured a flux density of 688+/-35 Jy at 6cm between 2004 and 2008. Polarized emission from 25 SNRs were detected. For G16.2-2.7, G69.7+1.0, G84.2-0.8 and G85.9-0.6, the polarized emission is detected for the first time confirming them as SNRs. (Abridged) We conducted new 6cm and 11cm observations of CTA 1 using the Urumqi 25-m and Effelsberg 100-m telescopes. Data at other wavelengths were included to investigate the spectrum and polarisation properties. We obtained new total intensity and polarisation maps at 6cm and 11cm with angular resolutions of 9.5 arcmin and 4.4 arcmin, respectively. We derived a spectral index of alpha=-0.63+/-0.05 based on the integrated flux densities at 408 MHz, 1420 MHz, 2639 MHz, and 4800 MHz. The spectral index map calculated from data at the four frequencies shows a clear steepening of the spectrum from the strong shell emission towards the north-western breakout region with weak diffuse emission. The decrease of the spectral index is up to about 0.3. The RM map derived from polarisation data at 6cm and 11cm shows a sharp transition between positive RMs in the north-eastern and negative RMs in the south-western part of the SNR. We note a corresponding RM pattern of extragalactic sources and propose the existence of a large-diameter Faraday screen in front of CTA 1, which covers the north-eastern part of the SNR. The RM of the Faraday screen is estimated to be about +45 rad/m2. A RM structure function of CTA 1 indicates a very regular magnetic field within the Faraday screen, which is larger than about 2.7 microG in case of 500 pc distance., Comment: 9 pages, 12 figures, minor changes, accepted for publication in A&A

We identify new strong lensing clusters of galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III (SDSS DR8) by visually inspecting color images of a large sample of clusters of galaxies. We find 68 new clusters showing giant arcs in addition to 30 known lensing systems. Among 68 cases, 13 clusters are "almost certain" lensing systems with tangential giant arcs, 22 clusters are "probable" and 31 clusters are "possible" lensing systems. We also find two exotic systems with blue rings. The giant arcs have angular separations of 2.0"-25.7" from the bright central galaxies. Supernova remnants (SNRs) were often discovered in radio surveys of the Galactic plane. Because of the surface-brightness limit of previous surveys, more faint or confused SNRs await discovery. The Sino-German $\lambda$6\ cm Galactic plane survey is a sensitive survey with the potential to detect new low surface-brightness SNRs. We want to identify new SNRs from the $\lambda$6\ cm survey map of the Galactic plane. We searched for new shell-like objects in the $\lambda$6\ cm survey maps, and studied their radio emission, polarization, and spectra using the $\lambda$6\ cm maps together with the $\lambda$11\ cm and $\lambda$21\ cm Effelsberg observations. Extended polarized objects with non-thermal spectra were identified as SNRs. We have discovered two new, large, faint SNRs, G178.2-4.2 and G25.1-2.3, both of which show shell structure. G178.2-4.2 has a size of 72 arcmin x 62 arcmin with strongly polarized emission being detected along its northern shell. The spectrum of G178.2-4.2 is non-thermal, with an integrated spectral index of $\alpha = -0.48\pm0.13$. Its surface brightness is $\Sigma_{1 GHz} = 7.2 x 10^{-23}{Wm^{-2} Hz^{-1} sr^{-1}}$, which makes G178.2-4.2 the second faintest known Galactic SNR. G25.1-2.3 is revealed by its strong southern shell which has a size of 80 arcmin x 30\arcmin. It has a non-thermal radio spectrum with a spectral index of $\alpha = -0.49\pm0.13$. Two new large shell-type SNRs have been detected at $\lambda$6\ cm in an area of 2200 deg^2 along the the Galactic plane. Identification of high redshift clusters is important for studies of cosmology and cluster evolution. Using photometric redshifts of galaxies, we identify 631 clusters from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) Wide field, 202 clusters from the CHFT Deep field, 187 clusters from the Cosmic Evolution Survey (COSMOS) and 737 clusters from the Spitzer Wide-area InfraRed Extragalactic survey (SWIRE) field. The redshifts of these clusters are in the range of 0.11, 191 clusters are newly identified, and most of them from the SWIRE field. With this large sample of high redshift clusters, we study the color evolution of the brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs). The colors r'-z' and r^+-m_{3.6\mu m} of the BCGs are consistent with a stellar population synthesis model in which the BCGs are formed at redshift z_f>2 and evolved passively. The colors g'-z' and B-m_{3.6\mu m} of the BCGs at redshifts z>0.8 are systematically bluer than the passive evolution model for galaxy formed at z_f~2, indicating star formation in high redshift BCGs., Comment: 10 pages, 14 figures, 2 tables; added reference, corrected typos; Table 2 is available at http://zmtt.bao.ac.cn/wzl/CV_wen.htm

Ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) have several types according to dominance of starburst or AGN component. We made stellar population analysis for a sample of 160 ULIRGs to study the evolution of ULIRGs. We found that the dominance of intermediate-age and old stellar populations increases along the sequence of HII-like ULIRGs, Seyfert-HII composite ULIRGs, and Seyfert 2 ULIRGs. Consequently the typical mean stellar age and the stellar mass increase along the sequence. Comparing the gas mass estimated from the CO measurements with the stellar mass estimated from the optical spectra, we found that gas fraction is anti-correlated with the stellar mass. HII-like ULIRGs with small stellar masses do not possess enough gas and the total mass, and therefore have no evolution connections with massive Seyfert 2 ULIRGs. Only massive ULIRGs may follow the evolution sequence toward AGNs, and massive HII-like ULIRGs are probably in an earlier stage of the sequence., Comment: 8 pages, 10 figures, 1 table. Observations of large supernova remnants (SNRs) at high frequencies are rare, but provide valuable information about their physical properties. The total intensity and polarization properties of 16 large SNRs in the Galactic plane were investigated based on observations of the Urumqi $\lambda$6\ cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane with an angular resolution of 9$\farcm$5. We extracted total intensity and linear polarization maps of large SNRs from the Urumqi $\lambda$6\ cm survey, obtained their integrated flux densities, and derived the radio spectra in context with previously published flux densities at various frequencies. In particular, Effelsberg $\lambda$11\ cm and $\lambda$21\ cm survey data were used for calculating integrated flux densities. The $\lambda$6\ cm polarization data also delineate the magnetic field structures of the SNRs. We present the first total intensity maps at $\lambda$6\ cm for SNRs G106.3+2.7, G114.3+0.3, G116.5+1.1, G166.0+4.3 (VRO 42.05.01), G205.5+0.5 (Monoceros Nebula) and G206.9+2.3 (PKS 0646+06) and the first polarization measurements at $\lambda$6\ cm for SNRs G82.2+5.3 (W63), G106.3+2.7, G114.3+0.3, G116.5+1.1, G166.0+4.3 (VRO 42.05.01), G205.5+0.5 (Monoceros Nebula) and G206.9+2.3 (PKS 0646+06). Most of the newly derived integrated radio spectra are consistent with previous results. The new flux densities obtained from the Urumqi $\lambda$6\ cm, Effelsberg $\lambda$11\ cm and $\lambda$21\ cm surveys are crucial to determine the spectra of SNR G65.1+0.6, G69.0+2.7 (CTB 80), G93.7-0.2 and G114.3+0.3. We find that G192.8$-$1.1 (PKS 0607+17) consists of background sources, \ion{H}{II} regions and the extended diffuse emission of thermal nature, and conclude that G192.8$-$1.1 is not a SNR., Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, accepted by A&\amp;A. Linear polarization of diffuse Galactic emission is a signature of magnetic fields in the interstellar medium of our Galaxy. Observations at high frequencies are less affected by Faraday depolarization than those at lower frequencies and are able to detect polarized emission from more distant Galactic regions. We attempt to perform a sensitive survey of the polarized emission from the Galactic disk at 6 cm wavelength. We made polarization observations of the Galactic plane using the Urumqi 25-m telescope at 6 cm covering the area of 60deg< l <129deg and |b|<5deg. Missing large-scale structures in polarization were restored by extrapolation of the WMAP polarization data. We present the 6cm total intensity and linear polarization maps of the surveyed region. We identify two new extended HII regions G98.3-1.6 and G119.6+0.4 in this region. Numerous polarized patches and depolarization structures are visible in the polarization maps. Depolarization along the periphery of a few HII complexes was detected and can be explained by a Faraday screen model. We discuss some prominent depolarization HII regions, which have regular magnetic fields of several $\mu$G. Structure functions of U, Q and PI images of the entire 6cm survey region of 10deg< l < 230deg exhibit much larger fluctuation power towards the inner Galaxy, which suggests a higher turbulence in the arm regions of the inner Galaxy. The Sino-German 6cm survey reveals new properties of the diffuse magnetized interstellar medium. The Vela pulsar represents a distinct group of {\gamma}-ray pulsars. Fermi {\gamma}-ray observations reveal that it has two sharp peaks (P1 and P2) in the light curve with a phase separation of 0.42 and a third peak (P3) in the bridge. The location and intensity of P3 are energy-dependent. We use the 3D magnetospheric model for the annular gap and core gap to simulate the {\gamma}-ray light curves, phase-averaged and phase-resolved spectra. We found that the acceleration electric field along a field line in the annular gap region decreases with heights. The emission at high energy GeV band is originated from the curvature radiation of accelerated primary particles, while the synchrotron radiation from secondary particles have some contributions to low energy {\gamma}-ray band (0.1 - 0.3 GeV). The {\gamma}-ray light curve peaks P1 and P2 are generated in the annular gap region near the altitude of null charge surface, whereas P3 and the bridge emission is generated in the core gap region. The intensity and location of P3 at different energy bands depend on the emission altitudes. The radio emission from the Vela pulsar should be generated in a high-altitude narrow regions of the annular gap, which leads to a radio phase lag of ~ 0.13 prior to the first {\gamma}-ray peak., Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures, 2 tables, accepted by ApJ

Estimating black hole masses of blazars is still a big challenge. Because of the contamination of jets, using the previously suggested size -- continuum luminosity relation can overestimate the broad line region (BLR) size and black hole mass for radio-loud AGNs, including blazars. We propose a new relation between the BLR size and $H_{\beta}$ emission line luminosity and present evidences for using it to get more accurate black hole masses of radio-loud AGNs. For extremely radio-loud AGNs such as blazars with weak/absent emission lines, we suggest to use the fundamental plane relation of their elliptical host galaxies to estimate the central velocity dispersions and black hole masses, if their velocity dispersions are not known but the host galaxies can be mapped. The black hole masses of some well-known blazars, such as OJ 287, AO 0235+164 and 3C 66B, are obtained using these two methods and the M - $\sigma$ relation. A sample of 129 unresolved radio sources with ultrahigh linear polarization (>30 per cent) has been selected from the NRAO VLA Sky Survey. Such high average linear polarization is unusual in extragalactic sources. Higher resolution Australia Telescope Compact Array and Very Large Array observations confirm the high average polarization but find that most of these sources are extended. The Sloan Digital Sky Survey spectroscopy, where available, shows that the optical counterparts are elliptical galaxies with no detectable emission lines. The optical spectra, radio luminosity, linear size and spectral index of these sources are typical of radio-loud active galactic nuclei. Galaxy counts within a 1 Mpc radius of the radio sources show that these highly polarized sources are in environments similar to their low polarization (<2 per cent) counterparts. Similarly, the line-of-sight environments of the ultrahigh polarization sources are on average indistinguishable from those of the low-polarization sources. We conclude that the extraordinarily high average polarization must be due to intrinsic properties of the sources, such as an extremely ordered source magnetic field, low internal thermal plasma density or a preferential orientation of the source magnetic field perpendicular to the line of sight., Comment: 23 pages, 15 figures, 6 tables, accepted for publication in MNRAS; v2: some typos corrected

Linearly polarized Galactic synchrotron emission provides valuable information about the properties of the Galactic magnetic field and the interstellar magneto-ionic medium, when Faraday rotation along the line of sight is properly taken into account. We aim to survey the Galactic plane at 6 cm including linear polarization. At such a short wavelength Faraday rotation effects are in general small and the Galactic magnetic field properties can be probed to larger distances than at long wavelengths. The Urumqi 25-m telescope is used for a sensitive 6 cm survey in total and polarized intensities. WMAP K-band (22.8 GHz) polarization data are used to restore the absolute zero-level of the Urumqi U and Q maps by extrapolation. Total intensity and polarization maps are presented for a Galactic plane region of 129 degree < l < 230 degree and |b| < 5 degree in the anti-centre with an angular resolution of 9'5 and an average sensitivity of 0.6 mK and 0.4 mK Tb in total and polarized intensity, respectively. We briefly discuss the properties of some extended Faraday Screens detected in the 6 cm polarization maps. The Sino-German 6 cm polarization survey provides new information about the properties of the magnetic ISM. The survey also adds valuable information for discrete Galactic objects and is in particular suited to detect extended Faraday Screens with large rotation measures hosting strong regular magnetic fields., Comment: 17 pages, 20 figures, accepted by A&A. Pulsed high energy radiation from pulsars is not yet completely understood. In this paper, we use the 3D self-consistent annular gap model to study light curves for both young and millisecond pulsars observed by the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. The annular gap can generate high energy emission for short-period pulsars. The annular gap regions are so large that they have enough electric potential drop to accelerate charged particles to produce gamma-ray photons. For young pulsars, the emission region is from the neutron star surface to about half of the light cylinder radius, and the peak emissivity is in the vicinity of the null charge surface. The emission region for the millisecond pulsars is located much lower than that of the young pulsars. The higher energy gamma-ray emission comes from higher altitudes in the magnetosphere. We present the simulated light curves for three young pulsars (the Crab, the Vela, the Geminga) and three millisecond pulsars (PSR J0030+0451, PSR J0218+4232, PSR J0437-3715) using the annular gap model. The mass function of galaxy clusters is a powerful tool to constrain cosmological parameters, e.g., the mass fluctuation on the scale of 8 h^{-1} Mpc, sigma_8, and the abundance of total matter, Omega_m. We first determine the scaling relations between cluster mass and cluster richness, summed r-band luminosity and the global galaxy number within a cluster radius. These relations are then used to two complete volume-limited rich cluster samples which we obtained from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). We estimate the masses of these clusters and determine the cluster mass function. Fitting the data with a theoretical expression, we get the cosmological parameter constraints in the form of sigma_8(Omega_m/0.3)^{alpha}=beta and find out the parameters of alpha=0.40-0.50 and beta=0.8-0.9, so that sigma_8=0.8-0.9 if Omega_m=0.3. We study possible correlations between ultrahigh energy cosmic rays (UHECRs), observed by Auger, AGASA and Yakutsk, and nearby active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and $Fermi$ sources. We consider the deflection effects by a Galactic magnetic field (GMF) model constrained by the most updated measurements. We found that the average deflection angles of UHECRs by the Galactic magnetic fields are less than $4^\circ$. A correlation between the Auger cosmic-ray events and nearby AGNs with a significance level of $\sim 4\sigma$ was found for the Auger UHECR data sets with or without deflection correction. No correlation was found between the AGASA/Yakutsk events with nearby AGNs. Marginal correlations between the Auger events and the $Fermi$ sources, and between AGASA events and $Fermi$ AGNs were found when the deflections calculated by the GMF model were considered. However, no correlation was found between the Yakutsk data and $Fermi$ sources. Some $Fermi$ sources are close to the arrival directions of UHECR events detected by Auger, AGASA, and Yakutsk, most of which are probably chance coincidence rather than objects producing UHECRs in the nearby Universe. Four $Fermi$ sources, NGC 4945, ESO 323-G77, NGC 6951, and Cen A, within 100~Mpc have UHECR events within $3.1^{\circ}$ from their positions, which could potentially be cosmic ray accelerators. We present high-resolution continuum images of the W51e2 complex processed from archival data of the Submillimeter Array (SMA) at 0.85 and 1.3 mm and the Very Large Array (VLA) at 7 and 13 mm. We also made line images and profiles of W51e2 for three hydrogen radio recombination lines (H26\alpha, H53\alpha, and H66\alpha) and absorption of two molecular lines of HCN(4-3) and CO(2-1). At least four distinct continuum components have been detected in the 3" region of W51e2 from the SMA continuum images at 0.85 and 1.3 mm with resolutions of 0.3"x0.2" and 1.4"x0.7", respectively. The west component, W51e2-W, coincides with the UC HII region reported from previous radio observations. The H26\alpha line observation reveals an unresolved hyper-compact ionized core (<0.06" or <310 AU) with a high electron temperature of 1.2x10^4 K, with corresponding emission measure EM>7x10^{10} pc cm^{-6} and electron density N_e>7x10^6 cm^{-3}. The inferred Lyman continuum flux implies that the HII region W51e2-W requires a newly formed massive star, an O8 star or a cluster of B-type stars, to maintain the ionization. The east component, W51e2-E, has a total mass of ~140 M_{\sun} according to our SED analysis and a large infall rate of > 1.3x10^{-3} M_{\sun}yr^{-1} inferred from the absorption of HCN. W51e2-E appears to be the accretion center in W51e2 and to host one or more growing massive proto-stars. Located 2" northwest from W51e2-E, W51e2-NW is not detected in the continuum emission at \lambda>=7 mm. Along with the maser activities previously observed, our analysis suggests that W51e2-NW is at an earlier phase of star formation. W51e2-N is located 2" north of W51e2-E and has only been detected at 1.3 mm with a lower angular resolution (~1"), suggesting that it is a primordial, massive gas clump in the W51e2 complex., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, 3 table, accepted for publication in ApJ

Determining radiation location observationally plays a very important role in testing the pulsar radiation models. One-photon pair production in the strong magnetic field, $\gamma-e^{+}e^{1}$, is one of the important physical processes in pulsar radiation mechanisms. Photons near pulsar surface with sufficient energy will be absorbed in the magnetosphere and the absorption optical depth for these GeV $\gamma$-ray photons is usually large. In this paper, we include the aberrational, rotational and general relativistic effects and calculate the $\gamma$-B optical depth for $\gamma$-ray photons. Then we use the derived optical depth to determine the radiation altitude lower bounds for photons with given energies. Ultra-luminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) are interesting objects with dramatic properties. Many efforts have been made to understand the physics of their luminous infrared emission and evolutionary stages. However, a large ULIRG sample is still needed to study the properties of their central black holes (BHs), the BH-host galaxy relation, and their evolution. We identified 308 ULIRGs from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 6, and classified them into the NL ULIRGs (with only narrow emission lines) and the Type I ULIRGs (with broad emission lines). About 56% of ULIRGs in our total sample show interaction features, and this percentage is 79% for redshift z < 0.2. Optical identifications of these ULIRGs show that the AGN percentage is at least 49%, and the percentage increases with the infrared luminosity. We found 62 Type I ULIRGs, and estimated their BH masses and velocity dispersions from their optical spectra. Together with known Type I ULIRGs in the literature, a sample of 90 Type I ULIRGs enables us to make a statistical study. We found that the BH masses of Type I ULIRGs are typically smaller than those of PG QSOs, and most Type I ULIRGs follow the M_{BH}-sigma relation. However, some ULIRGs with larger Eddington ratio deviate from this relation, even the line width of the [OIII] narrow line (NL) core or the [SII] line was used as the surrogate of velocity dispersion. This implies that at least some ULIRGs are probably still in the early evolution stage toward QSOs. The anti-correlation between the mass deviation from the M_{BH}-sigma relation and the Eddington ratio supports that the evolution of Type I ULIRGs is probably followed by the building up of the M_{BH}-sigma relation and the evolution to the QSO phase., Comment: 46 pages, 15 figures, 2 tables; published by ApJ

Pulsars have been recognized as normal neutron stars, but sometimes argued as quark stars. {\it Sub-millisecond pulsars, if detected, would play an essential and important role in distinguishing quark stars from neutron stars.} We focus on the formation of such sub-millisecond pulsars in this paper. A new approach to form a sub-millisecond pulsar (quark star) via accretion induced collapse (AIC) of a white dwarf is investigated here. Under this AIC process, we found that: (1) almost all the newborn quark stars could have an initial spin period of $\sim 0.1$ ms; (2) the nascent quark stars (even with a low mass) have sufficiently high spin-down luminosity and satisfy the conditions for pair production and sparking process to be as sub-millisecond radio pulsars; (3) in most cases, the timescales of newborn quark stars in the phase of spin period $< 1$ (or $<0.5$) ms can be long enough to be detected. As a comparison, an accretion spin-up process (for both neutron and quark stars) is also investigated. It is found that, quark stars formed through AIC process can have shorter periods ($\leq$ 0.5 ms); while the periods of neutron stars formed in accretion spin-up process must be longer than 0.5ms. Clusters of galaxies in most previous catalogs have redshifts z<0.3. Using the photometric redshifts of galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 6 (SDSS DR6), we identify 39,668 clusters in the redshift range 0.05< z <0.6 with more than eight luminous (M_r<-21) member galaxies. Cluster redshifts are estimated accurately with an uncertainty less than 0.022. The contamination rate of member galaxies is found to be roughly 20%, and the completeness of member galaxy detection reaches to ~90%. Monte Carlo simulations show that the cluster detection rate is more than 90% for massive (M_{200}>2\times10^{14} M_{\odot}) clusters of z<0.42. The false detection rate is ~5%. We obtain the richness, the summed luminosity, and the gross galaxy number within the determined radius for identified clusters. They are tightly related to the X-ray luminosity and temperature of clusters. Cluster mass is related to the richness and summed luminosity with M_{200}\propto R^{1.90\pm0.04} and M_{200}\propto L_r^{1.64\pm0.03}, respectively. In addition, 685 new candidates of X-ray clusters are found by cross-identification of our clusters with the source list of the ROSAT X-ray survey., Comment: 18 pages, 27 figures, 2 tables. Many physical properties of this SNR such as spectrum and polarization can only be investigated by radio observations. The $\lambda$11 cm and $\lambda$6\ cm continuum and polarization observations of SNR G65.2+5.7 were made with the Effelsberg 100-m and the Urumqi 25-m telescopes, respectively, to investigate the integrated spectrum, the spectral index distribution, and the magnetic field properties. $\lambda$21 cm archival data from the Effelsberg 100-m telescope have been also used. The integrated flux densities of G65.2+5.7 at $\lambda 11$ cm and $\lambda 6$ cm are $21.9\pm3.1$ Jy and 16.8$\pm$1.8 Jy, respectively. The power-law spectrum ($S\sim\nu^{\alpha}$) is well fitted by $\alpha = -0.58\pm0.07$ from 83 MHz to 4.8 GHz. Spatial spectral variations are small. Along the northern shell strong depolarizion is observed at both wavelengths. The southern filamentary shell of SNR G65.2+5.7 is polarized up to 54% at $\lambda 6$ cm. There is significant depolarization at $\lambda 11$ cm and confusion with diffuse polarized Galactic emission. Using equipartition principle, we estimated the magnetic field strength for the southern filamentary shell about 20 $\mu$G (filling factor 1) to 50 $\mu$G (filling factor 0.1). A faint HI shell may be associated with the SNR. Despite its unusual strong X-ray and optical emission and its very low surface brightness, the radio properties of SNR G65.2+5.7 are found to be typical for evolved shell type SNRs. The spiral structure of our Milky Way Galaxy is not yet known. HII regions and giant molecular clouds are the most prominent spiral tracers. We collected the spiral tracer data of our Milky Way from the literature, namely, HII regions and giant molecular clouds (GMCs). With weighting factors based on the excitation parameters of HII regions or the masses of GMCs, we fitted the distribution of these tracers with models of two, three, four spiral-arms or polynomial spiral arms. The distances of tracers, if not available from stellar or direct measurements, were estimated kinetically from the standard rotation curve of Brand & Blitz (1993) with $R_0$=8.5 kpc, and $\Theta_0$=220 km s$^{-1}$ or the newly fitted rotation curves with $R_0$=8.0 kpc and $\Theta_0$=220 km s$^{-1}$ or $R_0$=8.4 kpc and $\Theta_0$=254 km s$^{-1}$. We found that the two-arm logarithmic model cannot fit the data in many regions. The three- and the four-arm logarithmic models are able to connect most tracers. However, at least two observed tangential directions cannot be matched by the three- or four-arm model. We composed a polynomial spiral arm model, which can not only fit the tracer distribution but also match observed tangential directions. Using new rotation curves with $R_0$=8.0 kpc and $\Theta_0$=220 km s$^{-1}$ and $R_0$=8.4 kpc and $\Theta_0$=254 km s$^{-1}$ for the estimation of kinematic distances, we found that the distribution of HII regions and GMCs can fit the models well, although the results do not change significantly compared to the parameters with the standard $R_0$ and $\Theta_0$., Comment: 34 Pages, 10 Figures, 5 Tables. The magnetic structure in the Galactic disk, the Galactic center and the Galactic halo can be delineated more clearly than ever before. In the Galactic disk, the magnetic structure has been revealed by starlight polarization within 2 or 3 kpc of the Solar vicinity, by the distribution of the Zeeman splitting of OH masers in two or three nearby spiral arms, and by pulsar dispersion measures and rotation measures in nearly half of the disk. The polarized thermal dust emission of clouds at infrared, mm and submm wavelengths and the diffuse synchrotron emission are also related to the large-scale magnetic field in the disk. The rotation measures of extragalactic radio sources at low Galactic latitudes can be modeled by electron distributions and large-scale magnetic fields. The statistical properties of the magnetized interstellar medium at various scales have been studied using rotation measure data and polarization data. In the Galactic center, the non-thermal filaments indicate poloidal fields. There is no consensus on the field strength, maybe mG, maybe tens of uG. The polarized dust emission and much enhanced rotation measures of background radio sources are probably related to toroidal fields. In the Galactic halo, the antisymmetric RM sky reveals large-scale toroidal fields with reversed directions above and below the Galactic plane. Magnetic fields from all parts of our Galaxy are connected to form a global field structure. More observations are needed to explore the untouched regions and delineate how fields in different parts are connected., Comment: 10+1 pages. We report on polarimetric observations of 100 pulsars centered on 774 MHz, made using the Green Bank Telescope, presenting their polarization profiles and polarized flux densities and comparing them with previous observations when possible. For 67 pulsars, these are the first such measurements made. Polarization profiles of 8 millisecond pulsars in our sample show wide profiles and flat position-angle curves. Strong linear polarization, sometimes approaching 100% of the total intensity, has been detected in all or a part of the average pulse profiles of some pulsars. In general, circular polarization is very weak, although it is observed to be extremely strong in the leading component of PSR J1920+2650. Sense reversal of circular polarization as a function of pulse phase has been detected from both core and other components of more than 20 pulsars. Any relationship between the spin-down luminosity and the percentage of linear polarization is not evident in our data at this frequency., Comment: 16 pages. The magnetic fields of our Milky Way galaxy are the main agent for cosmic rays to transport. In the last decade, much new knowledge has been gained from measurements of the Galactic magnetic fields. In the Galactic disk, from the RMs of a large number of newly discovered pulsars, the large-scale magnetic fields along the spiral arms have been delineated in a much larger region than ever before, with alternating directions in the arm and interarm regions. The toroidal fields in the Galactic halo were revealed to have opposite directions below and above the Galactic plane, which is an indication of an A0 mode dynamo operating in the halo. The strength of large-scale fields obtained from pulsar RM data has been found to increase exponentially towards the Galactic center. Compared to the steep Kolmogorov spectrum of magnetic energy at small scales, the large-scale magnetic fields show a shallow broken spatial magnetic energy spectrum., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures. The Global Magneto-Ionic Medium Survey (GMIMS) is a project to map the diffuse polarized emission over the entire sky, Northern and Southern hemispheres, from 300 MHz to 1.8 GHz. With an angular resolution of 30 - 60 arcmin and a frequency resolution of 1 MHz or better, GMIMS will provide the first spectro-polarimetric data set of the large-scale polarized emission over the entire sky, observed with single-dish telescopes.
