In order to verify methods of calculating the fission-evaporation competition in reactions used to synthesize new super-heavy nuclei in 'cold' (1n) and 'hot' (3n,4n) fusion reactions, we present an analysis of existing experimental data on the evaporation-residue cross sections in two selected reactions, {sup 208}Pb({sup 16}O, xn) and {sup 236}U({sup 12}C, xn), for which complementary experimental information necessary to unambiguously calculate the survival probabilities is available: precisely measured fusion excitation functions and saddle-point energies of the fissioning nuclei, deduced from experiments. Standard statistical model calculations, with shell effects accounted for by the Ignatyuk formula, were carried out assuming the ground state shell corrections of Moeller et al., and zero shell correction at the saddle configuration (resulting from the presented systematics). Good agreement of the calculated evaporation-residue cross sections with experimental data for different xn reaction channels at low excitation energies leaves no room for modifications of the conventional way of calculating the {gamma}{sub n}/{gamma}{sub f} ratio, particularly for including into this ratio an additional preexponential factor (such as the Kramers fission hindrance factor or an effective collective factor) significantly different from 1.

Some properties of fast, nonequilibrium splitting of projectiles in the $^{124}\mathrm{Sn}+^{64}\mathrm{Ni}$ reaction at 35A MeV were determined using the $4\ensuremath{\pi}$ CHIMERA detector system. In particular the charge distributions, in- and out-of-plane angular distributions, and relative velocities of projectilelike fragments were measured. The time scale of the process was estimated and it turned out that the process is sequential but much faster than the ordinary, equilibrated fission.

An experiment, with unpolarized deuteron beam of 160 MeV impinging on liquid deuterium target, was carried out using BINA detector at KVI, in Groningen, the Netherlands. Data were collected for the purpose of obtaining high precision differential cross-section for the deuteron break-up reaction. The elastic scattering data were also collected alongside for the purpose of cross-section normalization. We present here a sample of the un-normalised cross-section for the three-body final state $\left ( dd\rightarrow dpn \right )$ reaction.

First results of a study of partitioning of the nonfusing 197Au + 197Au system at an energy of 23A MeV are reported. A variety of light, medium and heavy fragments were detected and identified by using the 4π multidetector system CHIMERA (Charged Heavy Ion Mass and Energy Resolving Array). A new method of identification of low-energy fragments stopped in the silicon detectors, based on a precise time-of-flight analysis, is proposed. The method has been applied in a preliminary analysis of the 197Au + 197Au partitioning processes leading to the neck emission of intermediate mass fragments and sequential breakup of projectile-like or target-like fragments.

The effect of neutron enrichment of the neck formed during reseparation of two colliding nuclei was studied with the aim to infer an information on the density dependence of the asymmetry energy term in the equation of state. By using a version of the QMD model of Łukasik it is shown that the neutrons-to-protons ratio of the intermediate mass fragments (IMF) emitted from the neck, 〈N/Z〉, is not a sufficiently sensitive observable to discriminate between different assumptions regarding the symmetry term of the equation of state. As an alternative, isotopic ratios of selected pairs of isotopes turned out to be useful observables more sensitive to the assumed form of the symmetry term of the equation of state. A comparison with experimental data on isotopic ratios for beryllium and boron IMFs from the 124 Sn + 64 Ni reaction at 35 MeV/nucleon tentatively suggests that the ASY-SOFT option of the symmetry energy term in EOS is preferred.

In order to obtain information on the time sequence and time scale of the production of intermediate mass fragments (IMF) in nucleus-nucleus collisions at intermediate energies it is proposed to analyze correlations between relative velocities of IMF's with respect to projectile-like fragments (PLF) and target-like fragments (TLF). Experimental data on the production of IMF's in the 124Sn+64Ni reaction, taken with the CHIMERA multidetector array at 35 MeV/nucleon, have been analyzed with the proposed method. A quantitative comparison is made between the absolute cross sections associated with statistical and dynamical emission of heavy fragments in the 124Sn+64Ni and 112Sn+58Ni collisions experimentally investigated at 35A MeV beam energy using the multidetector CHIMERA. The result shows that the dynamical process is about twice as probable in the neutron-rich 124Sn+64Ni system as in the 112Sn+58Ni neutron-poor one. This unexpected and significant difference indicates that the reaction mechanism is strongly dependent on the entrance-channel isospin (N/Z) content.

International audience; For fragments emitted in the reactions 124Sn + 64Ni and 112Sn + 58Ni at 35 AMeV, isotopic composition and velocity correlations have been studied as a function of the centrality of the collision, using the 4\pi Chimera multidetector. We have investigated the time scale for fragments formation, in order to distinguish between prompt dynamical and sequential statistical emission. Promptly emitted light fragments (Z \leq 9) produced in the mid-rapidity domain are characterised by larger N/Z ratio and stronger angular anisotropies than those produced in sequential statistical emission. Results are compared with stochastic BNV code simulations obtained for primary fragments. Valuable information on the symmetry term of the nuclear equation of state at sub-saturation densities are obtained.

For fragments emitted in the reactions (124)Sn + (64)Ni and (112)Sn + (58)Ni at 35 A MeV, isotopic composition and velocity correlations have been studied as a function of the centrality of the collision, using the 4 pi Chimera multidetector. We have investigated the time scale for fragments formation, in order to distinguish between prompt dynamical and sequential statistical emission. Promptly emitted light fragments (Z

Signatures of isospin effects were investigated for neutron-rich (124Sn+64Ni) and neutron-poor (112Sn+58Ni) systems at 35 MeV/nucleon for noncentral collisions. The centrality dependence of these signatures was tested for several impact parameter estimators. Our main observations are (i) the yields of 1H and 3He particles in the neutron-poor system are strongly enhanced with respect to the neutron-rich system, and the yields of 3H, 6He, and 7,8Li are suppressed at all impact parameters, (ii) the yields of 2H, 4He, and 6Li particles are almost the same for both systems, (iii) the N/Z ratio of intermediate mass fragments is correlated with the neutron richness of the system and is weakly dependent on the centrality of the collision, and (iv) the neutron richness of the detected fragments increases strongly with decreasing rapidity in the range from that of the projectile-like fragment to the c.m. region. The gross features of experimental data are reproduced by quantum molecular dynamics model calculations. A comparison between model calculations and the data indicates that the fragments produced in the c.m. regions are weakly excited.

International audience; The projectile-like fragmentation in the $^{124}$Sn + $^{64}$Ni reaction at 35 MeV/A is investigated in the frame of ternary emission. With a very selective analysis of our data, we found consistency of our results with the concept of a ternary emission mechanism in heavy ions collisions at intermediate energy.

- Abstract
Some properties of fast, nonequilibrium splitting of projectiles in the 124Sn+64Ni reaction at 35AMeV were determined using the 4π CHIMERA detector system. In particular the charge distributions, in- and out-of-plane angular distributions, and relative velocities of projectilelike fragments were measured. The time scale of the processwas estimated and it turned out that the process is sequential but much faster than the ordinary, equilibrated fission.

- Abstract
A new reaction mechanism of violent reseparation of a heavy nucleus-nucleus system, 197Au + 197Au, into three or four massive fragments in collisions at 15 MeV/nucleon has been observed. After reseparation, the fragments are almost exactly aligned, thus showing a very short time scale of the reseparation process, of about 70-80 fm/c.
