102. Opportunistic multichannel driving scheme for low power mobile TFT-LCD driver IC

Abstract

A novel source driving scheme called opportunistic multichannel driving (OMCD) is proposed for use in mobile TFT-LCD driver ICs (T-LDIs). In the OMCD scheme, the operation of the source drivers of a T-LDI is controlled by the equivalence of RGB colour data for adjacent pixels. That is, one source driver drives the neighbouring source lines as well as the corresponding one when the colour data of adjacent pixcels are identical to each other. With this scheme, all the source drivers associated with the neighbouring source lines can be completely turned off, allowing the reduction of static and dynamic current of these drivers. A test chip was fabricated in a 5 V/0.8 /spl mu/m 2.5 V/0.25 /spl mu/m triple-metal CMOS process, and the experimental result shows that the power reduction of 12-21% was obtained with die size overhead less than 0.5%.

Abstract

An analogue synchronous mirror delay with duty cycle-correction scheme (ASMDCC), to improve the data transmission performance between DRAM and system, is proposed. The ASMDCC achieves duty cycle correction and clock synchronisation at once within two clock cycles, by using a half value current source. The simulation results show the duty cycle of the internal clock is stabilised with less than /spl plusmn/100 ps deviation from 50% for the wide duty cycle range.

Abstract

A novel I/O divided column redundancy (IDCR) scheme that can improve the effectiveness of repair and minimise the overhead of the die area is presented. The IDCR scheme has greater flexibility than conventional schemes in multiple I/O DRAMs. Since an IDCR can share neighbouring redundant column lines (RCLs), the RCLs of neighbouring I/O blocks can be used to repair the defective column lines of a self-block. This work also shows that the IDCR scheme improves the data access speed of normal column lines or redundant column lines by reducing the data bus loading.

Abstract

The extra-heavy oil fraction upgrading process, which consisted of a pyrolyzer and a bubbling bed as a combustor/gasifier, was developed. Prior to operating a dual circulating fluidized bed reactor, the transition velocities of flow regime were determined at different temperatures using silica sand particles as the bed material. The transition velocities included minimum fluidization velocity (Umf), transition velocity to turbulent fluidization (Uc, Uk) and transport velocity (Utr). The minimum fluidization velocity determined by measuring bed pressured drop with increasing gas velocity was observed to decrease with increasing temperature. Both the transition velocities from bubbling to turbulent fluidized bed behavior determined by measuring bed pressure drop fluctuation and transport velocity from turbulent to fast fluidized bed behavior by emptying time method increased with increasing temperature. Based on the experimental data, correlations are proposed to predict the transition velocities at different temperatures. As the actual dual circulating fluidized bed reactor operation occurs at relatively high temperature, the correlations obtained in this study are directly applicable to the extra-heavy oil fraction upgrading process.
