Computer keyboards are often used to transmit confl- dential data such as passwords. The sensitive information such as keystrokes could be recovered by using the electromagnetic (EM) waves from the electronic components of the keyboard. In this paper, we have investigated the information leakage on the ground line of the PS/2 se- rial cable due to crosstalk and radiative coupling. The coupling princi- ples are analyzed flrstly. And then, through the experiments we found that the signals of keystrokes could leak to the ground line network which could then be detected on the other power outlets whose share the same electric line. Lastly, the eavesdropping experiments demon- strated that the keystrokes could be reproduced on the other places of the ground line network with no trace.

Electrical equipments usually radiate unintended emission which carries characteristic information when running, such as emana- tion from computers monitors, keyboards and other components, this emanation can be possibly used to reconstruct the source information. Most of the experiments related to this area are carried out inside a semi-anechoic chamber, and measurement out of it may not be consid- ered to be optimal, because the data captured are usually not su-cient. Yet in this study, we take LCD monitors as typical examples and flnd that characteristics signiflcantly difier between products, parameters such as the magnitude and spectrum were measured under normal en- vironment. We take the PCB traces as antennas and acquire the raw signal directly near the antenna and extract the parameters to use as input to support vector machine (SVM) which was trained to iden- tify the emanating source (LCD monitors). In this study, the method was tested using the emission captured from one Samsung (SyncMas- ter E1920) and two LG (L1753s) monitors, and a laptop (ACER As- pire 5542). The SVM was able to classify the source of signals with 98.9510% accuracy while using emission that captured from the run- ning monitors.

A cross-layer secure communication scheme for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system based on spatial modulation (SM) is proposed in this paper. The proposed scheme combined the upper layer stream cipher with the distorted signal design of the MIMO spatial modulation system in the physical layer to realize the security information transmission, which is called cross-layer secure communication system. Simulation results indicate that the novel scheme not only further ensure the legitimate user an ideal reception demodulation performance as the original system, but also make the eavesdropper' error rate stable at 0.5. The novel system do not suffer from a significant increasing complexity.

To explore the association of insulin resistance and β cell function with lipid metabolism in middle-aged and elderly Hui and Han populations.A total of 1000 subjects age over 40 years were recruited from five urban communities in Yinchuan and Wuzhong cities of Ningxia. The composition ratio between Hui and Han nationality was 1:2. A questionnaire-based survey was performed. Physical examinations were carried out to measure the height, body mass, waistline, and hipline. The levels of triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), blood uric acid (BUA), fasting blood glucose and insulin were measured. The boby mass index (BMI), waist-hip ratio (WHR), and secretion related index including insulin resistance index (IR), insulin sensitivity index (IAI), and beta cell function index (HBCI) were calculated. The BMI, WHR, IAI, HBCI, and the prevalence rate of diabetes in Hui nationality were significantly higher than those in Han nationality (P0.01). The levels of BUA, fasting blood glucose, TC, and IR in Han nationality were significantly lower than those in Hui nationality (P0.01). In Hui populations, TG, BMI, WHR, and BUA were positively correlated with IR (r=0.234, r=0.193, r=0.143, and r=0.129, respectively; P0.01) and were negatively correlated with IAI (r=-0.234, r=-0.193, r=-0.143, r=-0.129, respectively; P0.01), whereas TC was negatively correlated with HBCI (r=-0.169, P0.01). In Han populations, TC, TG, BMI, WHR, and BUA were positively correlated with IR (r=0.140, r=0.257, r=0.288, r=0.163, r=0.104, P0.01) and negatively correlated with IAI (r=-0.140, r=-0.257, r=-0.288, r=-0.163, and r=-0.104, P0.01), whereas BMI was negatively correlated with HBCI (r=-0.111, P0.01). After the influential factors such as gender, nationality, and age were adjusted, the TC, TG, BMI, WHR, BUA levels were positively correlated with IR (r=0.109, r=0.256, r=0.253, r=0.139, and r=0.142, P0.01) and negatively correlated with IAI (r=-0.109, r=-0.256, r=-0.253, r=-0.139, and r=-0.142, P0.01). TC and BMI were negatively correlated with HBCI (r=-0.113, r=-0.086, P0.01). TG and BMI were independently associated with IR and IAI (r=0.218, r=0.182, r=-0.218, r=-0.182), while TC and BMI were independently associated with HBCI (r=-0.113, r=-0.086).The distributions of TC, TG, BMI, WHR, BUA, IR, IAI, and HBCI differ between Han and Hui populations. The development of insulin resistance is closely related with the increased levels of TC, TG, BMI, WHR, and BUA. However, the HBCI increases with the increased level of TC and BMI. TG and BMI may be related with insulin resistance. Also, TC and BMI may affect the secretion function of β cells.

Little is known regarding plaque distribution, composition, and the association with inflammation in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). This study aimed to assess the relationship between coronary plaque subtypes and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels. Coronary CTA were performed in 98 symptomatic DM2 patients and 107 non-DM2 patients using a 256-slice CT. The extent and types of plaque as well as luminal narrowing were evaluated. Patients with DM2 were more likely to have significant stenosis (>50%) with calcified plaques in at least one coronary segment (p<0.01); the prevalence rates of diffuse calcified plaques in the DM2 and non-DM2 groups were 31.6% and 4.7%, respectively (p<0.01). Plasma hs-CRP levels in DM2 with calcified plaques were higher compared with values obtained for the non-DM2 group (p<0.01). In conclusion, combination of coronary CTA and hs-CRP might improve risk stratification in symptomatic DM2 patients.

Although various individual studies have evaluated the correlation between monoamine oxidase B (MAOB), polymorphism, and Parkinson's disease (PD), the results remain inconclusive. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis in the Chinese population to provide comprehensive data on the association between the MAOB polymorphism and PD. Eligible studies were identified via databases such as PubMed, Springer Link, Ovid, Chinese Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Chinese Biology Medicine, throughout November 2015. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess the strengths of these associations. Eight studies documenting a total of 1385 cases of PD and 1426 controls were included in this meta-analysis. Overall, no significant association was found between the MAOB A644G polymorphism and PD risk in the Chinese population. However, in subgroup analyses, where results were stratified by geographical areas and source of controls, increased risk for PD in Northern China was observed (allele A vs G: OR = 1.33, 95%CI = 1.11-1.58; AA vs GG: OR = 1.46, 95%CI = 1.09-1.97; AA + AG vs GG: OR = 1.42, 95%CI = 1.06-1.90). Similarly, population-based studies also showed significant association between the MAOB A644G polymorphism and PD risk among different populations (allele A vs G: OR = 1.29, 95%CI = 1.11-1.51; AA vs GG: OR = 1.41, 95%CI = 1.09-1.82; AA + AG vs GG: OR = 1.34, 95%CI = 1.04- 1.71). In conclusion, this meta-analysis provided evidence that the MAOB A644G polymorphism may contribute to PD development in Northern China. Further studies conducted in other ethnic groups are required for definite conclusions.

Based on the microscopic phase-field model, the correlation between site occupation evolution of alloying elements in Ni3V-DO22 phase and growth of Ni3Al-L12 phase was studied during the phase transformation of Ni75Al4.2V20.8. The results demonstrate that the growth of L12 phase can be divided into two stages: at the early stage, the composition of alloying elements in DO22 phase almost remains unchanged; at the late stage, the compositions of Ni and Al decrease while V increases in DO22 phase. Part of alloying elements for L12 phase growth are supplied from the site occupation evolution of alloying elements on three kinds of sublattices in DO22 phase. Ni is mainly supplied from V sublattice, and part of Al is supplied from Nii and V sites at the centre of DO22 phase. The excessive V from the decreasing DO22 phase migrates into the centre of DO22 phase and mainly occupies V and NiII sites. It is the site occupation evolution of antisite atoms and ternary additions in DO22 phase that controls the growth rate of L12 phase at the late stage.

Based upon the principle of suppression of backward-wave oscillation (BWO) using the phase velocity variation of output circuit in broadband helix traveling-wave tubes (TWTs), four kinds of nonuniform output circuit models have been presented. Two-wave theory has been used to calculate the backward-wave gain of two-section and three-section output circuits. This method breaks through the limits of equal-length section and weak tapering change in the two-wave theory. By calculating the backward-wave gain, the authors obtained the relationship between the oscillation-start current of backward wave and the tapering position and strength for these four kinds of output circuits, which develops the two-wave theory. These results provide the theoretical support for the suppression of BWO in broadband helix TWTs.

Microstructure changes brought by the addition of La element to AZ91 magnesium alloy are studied, also, the precipitating phases were identified and their influence on the mechanical properties of alloys was investigated. Results show La makes refinement of microstructure of the AZ91 alloy, and decrease the size of Mg17Al12 phase. La element takes a priority to react with Al element over Mg, forming binary phase Al11La3 with high melting point. Certain amount of La increases tensile strength, yield strength and elongation. With more addition, La would combine more Al in matrix and decrease strengthening effect, because Al11La3 phase would become coarsening. The mechanical poroerties tests indicate that AZ91+0.16%La alloy has the best properties. Maximum tensile strength, maximum yield strength and elongation are 245MPa, 178MPa and 14.5% respective, increased by 21%, 19% and 48% respectively. The mechanism of La strenthing mechanical properties is proposed that Al11La3 phase enriched on solid-liquid interface, increased the degree of supercooling, refined the grain size and changed the crystal style.

To maximize the throughout of AD hoc system with opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) among multiple secondary users is analyzed. Two distributed learning and allocation schemes are studied by using greedy and random approach, which can maximize the cognitive system throughput or equivalently minimize the total regret in distributed learning and allocation. The simulation results show that the performance of OSA in AD hoc system are affected by package arrival rate and the number of second users. When the second users are less than six, or the package arrival rate is less than 0.06, the throughput of greedy approach is higher than that of random approach, and greedy approach is recommended to be adopted in the design of OSA in AD hoc system.

An integrated mathematical model is proposed to predict the velocity field and strain distribution during multi-pass plate hot rolling. This model is a part of the mixed analytical-numerical method (ANM) aiming at prediction of deformation variables, temperature and microstructure evolution for plate hot rolling. First a velocity field with undetermined coefficients is developed according to the principle of volume constancy and characteristics of metal flow during rolling, and then it is solved by minimizing the total energy consumption rate. Meanwhile a thermal model coupling with the plastic deformation is exploited through series function solution to determine temperature distribution and calculate the flow stress. After that, strain rate field is calculated through geometric equations and strain field is derived by means of difference method. This model is employed in simulation of an industrial seven-pass plate hot rolling process. The velocity field result and strain field result are in good agreement with that from FEM simulation. Furthermore, the rolling force and temperature agree well with the measured ones. The comparisons verify the validity of the presented method. The calculation of temperature, strain and strain rate are helpful in predicting microstructure. Above all, the greatest advantage of the presented method is the high efficiency, it only takes 12 s to simulate a seven-pass schedule, so it is more efficient than other numerical methods such as FEM.

In order to continuously simulate multi-pass plate rolling process, a 3-D elastic hollow-roll model was proposed and an auto mesh-refining module with data passing was developed and integrated with FE software, Marc. The hollow-roll model has equivalent stiffness of bending resistance and deformation to the real solid and much less meshes, so the computational time is greatly reduced. Based on these, the factors influencing plate profile, such as the roll-bending force, initial crown, thermal crown and heat transfer during rolling and inter-pass cooling can be taken into account in the simulation. The auto mesh-refining module with data passing can automatically refine and re-number elements and transfer the nodal and elemental results to the new meshes. Furthermore, the 3-D modeling routine is parametrically developed and can be run independently of Marc pre-processing program. A seven-pass industrial hot rolling process was continuously simulated to validate the accuracy of model. By comparison of the calculated results with the industrial measured data, the rolling force, temperature and plate profile are in good accordance with the measured ones.

We demonstrate theoretically a tunable optical ring resonator incorporating an asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) and two phase shifters. The optimal resonance state of the ring resonator with different geometries can be achieved by tuning the two embedded phase shifters. Distinct intensity and phase responses and transmission spectra characteristics are newly observed by setting different structural parameters such as the asymmetrical path lengths of the waveguides and the coupling ratio of the directional couplers in the MZI. The performance characteristics related to the radius of the ring cavity and the propagation losses in the waveguides are also discussed. At optimal resonance, it is shown that sharp intensity response and tunable narrow-bandwidth spectra can be achieved especially for resonators with a highly asymmetrical configuration. Such device has a potential in sensing, switching and filtering applications.

The rheo-diecasting (RDC) process, a novel semi-solid processing technology, was used to produce cast components with high integrity, fine and uniform microstructure, and therefore enhanced performance. AZ91D samples with 1-3 mass%Gd were solidified by RDC process. It was found that under intensive forced convection, the primary α-Mg phase produced inside the twin-screw slurry maker had fine particle size, spherical morphology and uniform distribution throughout the samples. Microstructure observations showed that Gd addition resulted in the formation of Al2Gd which dispersed in the α-Mg matrix. The size and amount of β-Mg17Al12 phase was reduced and its continuity was broken, which was the main reason for improving mechanical properties of the AZ91D alloy at high temperatures. The amount of Al2Gd particles increased with increasing Gd addition. From EPMA quantitative analysis, almost all Gd reacted with Al, leading to the low concentration of Gd in the α-Mg matrix. The Vickers hardness increased monotonously from HV=50.4 to HV=67.3 with increasing amount of Gd. This improvement was attributed to the consummation of aluminum in melt by precipitation of the Al2Gd phases.

Hierarchical clustering algorithms, such as Pearson's correlation, Euclidean distance, Euclidean distance harmonic, Spearman rank correlation, Kendall's tau, and City-block distance, were used to find the best way to establish theoretical MAPK/Erk signaling pathway on the basis of breast cancer line MCF-7 gene expressions. The algorithm constructs a hierarchy from top to bottom on the basis of a self-organizing tree. It dynamically finds the number of clusters at each level. It was found that only Euclidean distance harmonic is fit for the analysis of the cascade composed from a RAF1 (c-Raf), a MKNK1, a MAPKK (MEK1/2) to MAPK (Erk) in breast cancer line MCF-7. The result is consistent with the biological experimental MAP/Erk signaling pathway, and the theoretical MAPK/Erk signaling pathway on breast cancer line MCF-7 is set up.

To explore the diagnostic value of single-source dual-energy spectral CT (sDECT) imaging in an acute superior mesenteric artery embolus (SMAE) canine model.Pre-contrast and double-phase contrast-enhanced sDECT were performed before and after embolization in eight SMAE dog models. Monochromatic images of embolized intestine with the best contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) were obtained and compared with the polychromatic images. CT parameters including attenuation value, iodine content, water content and thickness of the embolized intestinal segments were obtained, and normalized difference in iodine concentration (NDIC) was calculated. The CNR in pre-contrast, arterial phase and portal venous phase at 4 h after embolization was 1.11 ± 1.23, 13.50 ± 1.54 and 10.63 ± 3.75, respectively, significantly higher than those of the polychromatic images (p 0.05). The iodine-based images clearly revealed the embolized intestinal segments, which were highly consistent with the gross findings. The difference in attenuation values between the embolization area and non-embolization area in the monochromatic images was 105.06 ± 35.35 HU, higher than that in the polychromatic images (p 0.001). The attenuation values and NDIC were significantly decreased at 2 h after embolization, relatively increased at 4 h and gradually decreased at 6 and 8 h. The changing pattern of thickness was similar to that of NDIC over time after embolization.sDECT can provide the optimal monochromatic images and allow increased detection rates of lesions. sDECT is a very promising tool for quantitative diagnosis of SMAE.Our research provides more quantitative parameters for the assessment of SMAE by sDECT.

In this paper, a kind of blood pressure monitoring system based on double filter is designed and presented. This device provides a useful system for people to measure their daily blood pressure and achieve early diagnosis of hypertension. The pressure signal is collected by the pressure sensor and processed by filter circuit. Pulse wave of body contains a lot of healthy information, so the quality of the pulse wave determines the authenticity of the results. In the process of the actual measurement, pulse wave will be interfered by lots of unwanted signals. Common interference signals include 50Hz power frequency signal, noisy signal from muscles jitter and baseline drift. Therefore, we design a suitable double filter system and get a better signal after filtering. In addition, this design includes a ZigBee wireless transmission module, in order to send Blood Pressure (BP) data to the information system in real time.

To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) stimulation of "Zusanli" (ST 36) on intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) mRNA expression and mast cell (MC) distribution in the stimulated subcutaneous tissues in nor- mal rats, so as to study the correlation between ICAM-1 mRNA expression and MC activity during EA.Twenty Wistar rats were randomly assigned to normal group and EA group. EA(2 Hz/15 Hz, 0. 1 mA) stimulation was applied to the bilateral "Zusanli" (ST 36) for 25 min. The expression of OICAM-1 mRNA in subcutaneous tissues of the left "Zusanli" (ST 36) area was detected by in situ hybridization, and MC activity of the same tissues was observed under microscope after staining with acetylcho- line esterase (AChE) and toluidine blue (TB, counterstaining), respectively.Compared with the normal group, the ICAM-1 mRNA expressed at a markedly higher level in the subcutaneous tissues of the "Zusanli" (ST 36) region in the EA group (P0. 01), and MC counts were also significantly increased in the EA group (P0. 01).EA stimulation up-regulates the expression of ICAM-1 mRNA and enhances MC release from the stimulated regional subcutaneous tissue in healthy rats, suggesting ICAM-1 played an important role in affecting the movement and recruitment of MCs towards acupoint during EA.

The thermal and fluid dynamic disturbances caused by the insertion of a Langmuir probe into a flowing thermal plasma are examined. Attention is paid to a 5-mm-long, free burning 200-A argon plasma at atmospheric pressure. It has been found that the disturbances caused by the probe are so severe that probe measurements cannot refer directly to an undisturbed plasma. The difficulties in interpreting the probe voltage-current (V-I) characteristics are discussed. The use of a Langmuir probe as a general diagnostic tool for the plasma conditions investigated is not yet a practical proposition.

In circuit breakers, arc heaters and arc welding apparatus, metal vapor resulting from electrode erosion is inevitably injected into the arc plasma. The arc then burns in a mixture of the working gas (SF/sub 6/ in the case of circuit breakers) and electrode vapor, whose properties are substantially different from those of pure SF/sub 6/. The present work is a computational investigation into the effects of electrode vapor on the behavior of a supersonic nozzle arc under dc conditions. The arc and electrodes are treated as a coupled system. The arc plasma is assumed to be in local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE). The thin non-LTE layer between the electrode and the arc is not included in the computation but its effects are taken into account in the energy balance at the electrode surface. A conservation equation for the electrode vapor is solved together with the governing equations for mass, momentum, and energy of the gas mixture. Comparisons were made between the results with and without electrode vaporization. Results show that vaporization of the electrode material (copper in the present investigation) has a cooling effect at the arc center and broadens the arc column. The arc voltage is, however, not sensitive to the presence of electrode vapor for the gas discharge conditions investigated.

A type of waveguide feed Terahertz slot array antenna with a plastic substrate body structure is proposed in this paper. Slots are produced by periodically cutting a copper plate. Implementation of the plastic based waveguide body offers a better directivity and radiation efficiency than the conventional metallic waveguide, and lower inner attenuation can be achieved. Full-wave simulation showed that the waveguide feed W-band slot array antenna works at 88.4GHz with a 10dB bandwidth of 16.4GHz and the maximum directivity is 13dBi. Better antenna directivity can be achieved by employing antenna array.

Supersonic nozzles are commonly used in modern high voltage circuit breakers. The thermodynamic and electrical behavior of arcs burning in such nozzles is closely related to the nozzle geometry and the pressures at the nozzle inlet and exit. Computational investigation has been carried out on the thermal interruption capability of a supersonic nozzle at different inlet stagnation pressures and at different exit pressure to inlet stagnation pressure ratios (referred to as pressure ratios). The critical rate of rise of recovery voltage (RRRV), which is the most important parameter determining the thermal interruption capability of a circuit breaker, was predicted for five pressure ratios at three inlet stagnation pressures. The predicted RRRV values are compared with the test results of Campbell et al. (1976).

Non-PR, IFPRI1; CRP2; E Building Resilience, DSGD; PIM, CGIAR Research Program on Policies, Institutions, and Markets (PIM), In addition to human casualties and physical damage to infrastructure, natural disasters affect survivors emotionally and psychologically. Research on such impacts has almost exclusively been confined to the medical field, and focused on severe conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder. The fact that emotional shocks and increased risk awareness may trigger changes in the preferences and behavior of economic agents has until now largely been ignored, including by economists. Based on panel datasets from China’s Sichuan province, which was struck by an earthquake in 2008, and using distance from epicenter as a proxy for earthquake severity, we empirically show that the saving and consumption behavior of households closer to the epicenter changed after the earthquake. They saved less, spent more lavishly on alcohol and cigarettes, and also played majiang (a Chinese game) more often. The magnitude of the estimated impact on saving behavior, a drop of 6 percentage points for each degree of earthquake intensity, is economically significant. It appears that the earthquake has induced a shift in people’s preferences characterized by a carpe diem attitude toward spending and greater preference for the present.

The relationship of bladder cancer with the presence of X-ray cross-complementing group 3(XRCC3) genetic polymorphism Thr241Met has been reported with inconsistent results. The objective of this study was to quantitatively evaluate the association between this polymorphism and bladder cancer susceptibility. A comprehensive research was conducted through PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Web of Science databases up to Aug. 20, 2013. Pooled odds ratio and 95 % confidence interval were calculated using a fixed or random effects model. Statistical analysis was performed with Stata 12.0 software. Of the 18 case-control studies selected for this meta-analysis, a total of 5,667 bladder cancer cases and 7,609 controls were included. The combined results based on all studies suggested that XRCC3 Thr241Met was associated with bladder cancer risk under homozygote and recessive models. When stratifying for ethnicity, significant association was found in Caucasians under homozygote and recessive models. This meta-analysis suggests that XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism is a risk factor for bladder cancer risk. However, further well-designed studies are required to confirm our findings.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate liver lobe volumes and the ratios of liver lobe volumes to spleen volume measured with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for quantitatively monitoring and staging liver fibrosis. METHODS: Animal study was approved by Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Sixteen minipigs were prospectively used to model liver fibrosis, and underwent abdominal gadolinium-enhanced MRI on 0, 5(th), 9(th), 16(th) and 21(st) weekend after modeling this disease staged by biopsy according to METAVIR classification system. On MRI, volume parameters including left lateral liver lobe volume (LLV), left medial liver lobe volume (LMV), right liver lobe volume (RV), caudate lobe volume (CV), and spleen volume (SV) were measured; and LLV/SV, LMV/SV, RV/SV and CV/SV were calculated. Statistical analyses were performed for staging this fibrosis. RESULTS: LLV and CV increased with increasing stage of fibrosis (r = 0.711, 0.526, respectively; all P < 0.05). RV and LMV increased from stage 0 to 2 and decreased from 2 to 4; and RV/SV decreased from 0 to 1, increased from 1 to 2, and decreased from 3 to 4 (all P > 0.05). LLV/SV, LMV/SV and CV/SV decreased from stage 0 to 4 (r = -0.566, -0.748 and -0.620, respectively; all P < 0.05). LLV, CV, LLV/SV, LMV/SV, RV/SV, and CV/SV could distinguish stage 0-1 from 2-4 and 0-2 from 3-4 (all P < 0.05). Among these parameters, LLV and LMV/SV could best classify stage ≥2 and ≥3, respectively (area under receiver operating characteristic curve = 0.893 and 0.946, respectively). CONCLUSION: LLV and LMV/SV complement each other in staging liver fibrosis, and both parameters should be used to stage this disease.

The present study aimed to assess the diagnostic value of 64-slice spiral computed tomography (CT) imaging of the urinary tract during the excretory phase for urinary tract obstruction. CT imaging of the urinary tract during the excretory phase was performed in 46 patients that had been diagnosed with urinary tract obstruction by B-mode ultrasound imaging or clinical manifestations. It was demonstrated that out of the 46 patients, 18 had pelvic and ureteral calculi, 12 cases had congenital malformations, 3 had ureteral stricture caused by urinary tract infection and 13 cases had malignant tumors of the urinary tract. The average X-ray dose planned for the standard CT scan of the urinary tract group 1 was 14.11±5.45 mSv, while the actual X-ray dose administered for the CT scan during the excretory phase group 2 was 9.01±4.56 mSv. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (t=15.36; P<0.01). The results of the present study indicate that CT scanning of the urinary tract during the excretory phase has a high diagnostic value for urinary tract obstruction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE To study the humoral factor of acupuncture in improving functional activities of the organism. METHODS Neurons of the cerebral cortex from the new born rats were taken to be cultured in a strictly controlled medium. Seven to ten days later, fluorescein-molecular probe Fluo-3AM was used for staining intracellular Ca(2+). Ca(2+) concentration and its changes after application of acupuncture serum were measured by using a laser confocal microscope. Normal serum and acupuncture serum were derived from the normal control rats and the rats undergoing electro-acupuncture of "Baihui (GV 20)", "Zusanli (ST 36)", "Quchi (LI 11)" and "Sanyinjiao (SP 6)" for 2 weeks. RESULTS After application of normal serum, the intracellular Ca(2+) concentration increased strikingly immediately at the beginning, and gradually got stable afterwards. When acupuncture serum was added to the culture fluid, Ca(2+) concentration lowered significantly. CONCLUSION These results suggest that bioactive substances in serum collected from rats undergoing acupuncture can affect the intracellular Ca(2+) concentration of the cerebral neurons, and the humoral factor may participate in the effect of acupuncture in regulating functional activities of the organism.

In this paper, a type of dipole feed parabolic reflective plane cavity antenna with frequency selective surface as its overlay working at terahertz regime is presented. Using the overlay a better directivity and radiation efficiency can be attained compared to the original antenna which is without the FSS. A bow-tie feed 90 degree reflective plane antenna is improved by the implementation of appropriate FSS. Dipole feed antenna works at 101GHz with 6GHz – 10dB bandwidth and the maximum directivity is 10.7dBi, while the bow-tie feed one 126GHz, 4.5GHz and 7.8dBi.

In this paper, two types of T-shaped bandstop filter on high-resistivity silicon in terahertz (THz) frequency range are presented. One of the proposed T-shaped filters exhibits good resonant characteristics at 0.45THz when analyzed by the Finite Integration Technique (FIT) method. And the other modified T-shaped filter shows good attenuation characteristics between 0.2THz and 0.6THz. These filters can be used in various fields such as biosensors, communications and national defense science and technology.

Fibrinogen is a key protein involved in coagulation and its deposition on blood vessel walls plays an important role in the pathology of atherosclerosis. Although the causes of fibrinogen (fibrin) deposition have been studied in depth, little is known about the relationship between fibrinogen deposition and reactive carbonyl compounds (RCCs), compounds which are produced and released into the blood and react with plasma protein especially under conditions of oxidative stress and inflammation. Here, we investigated the effect of glycolaldehyde on the activity and deposition of fibrinogen compared with the common RCCs acrolein, methylglyoxal, glyoxal and malondialdehyde. At the same concentration (1 mmol/L), glycolaldehyde and acrolein had a stronger suppressive effect on fibrinogen activation than the other three RCCs. Fibrinogen aggregated when it was respectively incubated with glycolaldehyde and the other RCCs, as demonstrated by SDS-PAGE, electron microscopy and intrinsic fluorescence intensity measurements. Staining with Congo Red showed that glycolaldehyde- and acrolein-fibrinogen distinctly formed amyloid-like aggregations. Furthermore, the five RCCs, particularly glycolaldehyde and acrolein, delayed human plasma coagulation. Only glycolaldehyde showed a markedly suppressive effect on fibrinogenesis, none did the other four RCCs when their physiological blood concentrations were employyed, respectively. Taken together, it is glycolaldehyde that suppresses fibrinogenesis and induces protein aggregation most effectively, suggesting a putative pathological process for fibrinogen (fibrin) deposition in the blood.

To observe the alternations of local mast cells (MCs) in the number and functional activities after electroacupuncture (EA) and injection of stem cell factor (SOF) antibody into "Weishu" (BL 21) and "Zusanli" (ST 36) in rats.Thirty Wistar rats were randomly assigned to normal, EA, and EA + SCF antibody injection (EA-ABI) groups (n=10). EA was applied to the left "Weishu"(BL 21) and "Zusanli" (ST 36) for 25 min. For rats of EA+ ABI group, SOF-AB (1:200, 0.1 mL) was respectively injected into BL 21 and ST 36, following by EA. The tissues around the two acupoints areas were sampled to be stained with acetylcholine esterase (AchE) and toluidine blue (TB), respectively. The counts and degranulation ratio of MOs in the acupoint region were recorded and observed under microscope. In comparison with the normal group, MCs count was increased significantly in the EA of "Weishu" (BL 21) group (P0.05), mildly in the EA of "Zusanli" (ST 36) group (P0.05), and downregulated considerably in both EA-ABI-BL 21 and EA-ABI-ST 36 groups (P0.05) . Compared with the normal group, the degranulation ratio of MCs was increased significantly in EA-BL 21, EA-ST 36, EA-ABI-BL 21 and EA-ABI-ST 36 groups (P0.5). No significant differences were found between EA-BL 21 and EA-ABI-BL 21 groups, and between EA-ST 36 and EA-ABI-ST 36 groups in the degranulation ratios (P0.05).Local injection of SCF antibody in BL 21 and ST 36 can significantly suppress EA-induced increase of the number and degranulation ratio of local subcutaneous MCs in rats, suggesting that SCF is an important factor affecting the activity and recruitment of MCs around the acupoint during EA.

Tight, integrated accelerometers are current interests in Micro-Opto-electro-Mechanical-Systems (MOEMS). An optical accelerometer based on a novel integrated optical resonator is proposed. The transmission spectra and the relation between the structure parameters and the device sensitivity are simulated. This ring resonator structure shows great potential to develop high sensitive accelerometers.
