102. Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) non-specific lipid transfer protein StLTP6 promotes viral infection by inhibiting virus-induced RNA silencing

For the first time it is reported that members of the nsLTP protein family could promote viral infection by inhibiting virus-induced RNA silencing. Non-specific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTPs) are a class of soluble proteins with low relative molecular weight and widely present in higher plants. The role of nsLTPs in biotic and abiotic stresses has been studied, but no report has shown that nsLTPs play a role in the process of viral infection. We report the function and mechanism of the classical nsLTP protein StLTP6 in viral infection. We found that StLTP6 expression was remarkably upregulated in potato infected with potato virus Y and potato virus S. The infection efficiency and virus content of StLTP6-overexpressed potato and Nicotiana benthamiana were remarkable increased. Further study found that the overexpression of StLTP6 inhibited the expression of multiple genes in the RNA silencing pathway, thereby inhibiting virus-induced RNA silencing. This result indicated that StLTP6 expression was induced during viral infection to inhibit the resistance of virus-induced RNA silencing and promote viral infection. In summary, we reported the role of StLTP6 in viral infection, broadening the biological function range of the nsLTP family and providing valuable information for the study of viral infection mechanism.

103. Integrated manganese (III)-doped nanosystem for optimizing photothermal ablation: Amplifying hyperthermia-induced STING pathway and enhancing antitumor immunity

Despite the great promise initially demonstrated by photothermal ablation (PTA) therapy, its inability to completely ablate large tumors is problematic, because this has been found to result in residual tumors at ablation margins and bring a relative high rate of subsequent recurrences and metastases. To address this issue, we herein report a smart photothermal nanosystem (PBM) based on FDA-approved Prussian blue (PB) nanoparticles, doped with Mn (III) to suppress the tumor debris left by incomplete ablation. Notably, our study demonstrated that PTA-induced hyperthermia plays a crucial role in initiating the cGAS-STING pathway by generating damaged cytosolic DNA. This PBM nanosystem, which consumes glutathione and continuously releases Mn(II), further amplifies the PTA-induced cGAS-STING pathway in CT26 colon and 4T1 breast tumor models. Moreover, treatment with PBM following PTA boosted the robust immune response in situ and extended to the whole body with a remarkable suppression effect on both local residual and distant tumors. This work, which improves the antitumor efficacy of nonablated areas utilizing hyperthermia-enhanced immune therapy, may therefore provide a promising adjuvant antitumor strategy for the issue of incomplete ablation. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This work discovered, for the first time, that photothermal ablation-induced hyperthermia plays a crucial role in initiating the cGAS-STING pathway. Taking advantage of this finding, we developed a smart photothermal material (PBM) tailored for incomplete tumor ablation. This integrated Mn(III)-doped nanosystem (PBM) demonstrated superior therapeutic benefits due to the thermal ablation process and immune enhancement. As the photothermal ablation-induced cGAS-STING pathway was triggered, the released Mn(III) consumes GSH while continuously transferred to Mn(II), which further amplified STING activation and facilitated a more robust antitumor immunity, thereby remarkably inhibiting both local residual and distant tumors in virtue of the biological changes under thermal ablation.

Background Primary pulmonary meningioma (PPM) is an extremely rare disease, which is often misdiagnosed as lung metastasis. Previous studies indicated that PPM usually showed homogeneous enhancement on enhanced CT and high uptake of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) on positron emission tomography/CT (PET/CT). In this study, we report a case of PPM with atypical enhanced CT and 18F-FDG PET/CT features in a patient with rectal carcinoma. Case presentation A 70-year-old male was demonstrated to have rectal carcinoma by biopsy while a solitary pulmonary nodule (SPN) with well-defined edges measuring 13 × 13 × 15 mm was almost simultaneously found in the right lower robe on chest CT scan. Contrast-enhanced CT and PET/CT revealed mild centripetal enhancement of the nodule without accumulation of 18F-FDG. A thoracoscopic wedge resection of the right lower lobe was finally performed and histopathologic examinations and PET/CT imaging showed that the nodule was a PPM. Conclusion PPM is a rare disease with heterogeneity not only in blood supply but also in glucose metabolism. 18F-FDG PET/CT may be an effective method for differentiating benign and malignant SPNs. The diagnosis of PPM depends on pathological and radiological examinations.

The orbital angular momentum (OAM) has been widely studied and applied to many scientific fields, especially in optical communication and quantum information. In order to give full play to the high-dimensional characteristics of OAM, separating different OAM states is a fundamental requirement. Here we find a way to introduce the mode dependent phase shift by using Porro prism, design and manufacture a new kind of two-output OAM sorter. Our OAM sorter can separate two OAM states with different topological charges without destroying them. Because it is composed of several linear commonly optical elements, which can be closely pasted together, our OAM sorter is very compact and sturdy. Furthermore, by means of cascading, our design can be used for constructing an OAM sorter with multiple output ports. Therefore, our research should have great potential application prospects, especially in the communication protocol based on OAM.

Holography provides an approach to reconstructing both intensity and phase information, and has many applications for microscopic imaging, optical security, and data storage. Recently, the azimuthal Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) mode index, orbital angular momentum (OAM), has been implemented in holography technologies as an independent degree of freedom for high-security encryption. The radial index (RI) of LG mode, however, has not been implemented as an information carrier in holography. Here we propose and demonstrate the RI holography by using strong RI selectivity in the spatial-frequency domain. Furthermore, the LG holography is realized theoretically and experimentally with the (RI, OAM) spanning from (1, -15) to (7, 15), which leads to a 26bit LG-multiplexing hologram for high-security optical encryption. Based on LG holography, a high-capacity holographic information system can be constructed. In our experiments, a LG-multiplexing holography with a span of 217 independent LG channels has been realized, which is inaccessible at present for the OAM holography.

Soy isoflavones (SI) are known for their beneficial effects in alleviating neurodegenerative diseases, while the mechanism of alleviation of depression-like behaviour by SI remains unclear. In this study, a chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS)-induced depression rat model was used to determine the effect of SI in alleviating depression-like behaviour and its possible mechanisms. SI supplements significantly improved the CUMS-induced depression-like behaviour by increasing the monoamine neurotransmitter levels. A specific SI dose significantly modulated the composition of the gut microbiota, which in turn improved the maximum biotransformation ability of SI. Spearman's correlation analysis illustrated that some of the gut microbiota genera were strongly correlated with monoamine neurotransmitters. Moreover, more attention should be paid to gender differences, which may be related to changes in the gut microbiota. These results suggest that SI might affect monoamine neurotransmitters of CUMS rats by reshaping the structure of the gut microbiota, thereby alleviating depression-like behaviour.

Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) is an important avian pathogen causing considerable economic hardship in the poultry industry. A major inflammation caused by MS is synovitis that occurs in the synovial tendon sheath and joint synovium. However, the overall appearance of pathological changes in the tendon sheath and surrounding tissues caused by MS infection at the level of pathological tissue sections was poor. Studies on the role of MS and synovial sheath cells (SSCs) interaction in the development of synovitis have not been carried out. Through histopathological observation, our study found that a major MS-induced pathological change of the tendon sheath synovium was extensive scattered and focal inflammatory cell infiltration of the tendon sheath synovial layer. In vitro research experiments revealed that the CFU numbers of MS adherent and invading SSC, the levels of expression of various pattern recognition receptors, inflammatory cytokines, and chemokines coding genes, such as IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, CCL-20, RANTES, MIP-1β, TLR7, and TLR15 in SSCs, and chemotaxis of macrophages were significantly increased when the multiplicity of infection (MOI) of MS to SSC were increased tenfold. The expression level of IL-12p40 in SSC was significantly higher when the MOIs of MS to SSC were increased by a factor of 100. The interaction between MS and SSC can activate macrophages, which was manifested by a significant increase in the expression of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, CCL-20, RANTES, MIP-1β, and CXCL-13. This study systematically demonstrated that the interaction of MS with chicken SSC contributes to the inflammatory response caused by the robust expression of related cytokines and macrophage chemotaxis. These findings are helpful in elucidating the molecular mechanism of MS-induced synovitis in chickens.

116. Combustion Desorption for Carbon Capture by Waste Incineration

Amine scrubbing is the benchmark technology for carbon capture. However, amine scrubbing requires elevated-temperature steam to promote CO2 desorption. In order to solve the problem of high energy consumption, a combustion desorption reaction system (CDRS) was proposed, which integrates an electrochemical process and waste incineration process. A CDRS model was developed. Experimental study and numerical simulations on the CDRS were conducted. The effects of the initial value of concentration, the position of the anode plate, the depth of the solution, and the size of the reactor on CDRS performance were studied. It is found that electron transfer occurs during the reaction and a voltage of 0.35 V is generated. In addition, it is shown that the maximum CO2 desorption temperature in the system is 88 °C, and its average value is around 63 °C. The energy consumption is determined as 1.4 GJ/t. The CDRS increases the CO2 desorption rate by 98% at 90 °C compared to the amine scrubbing technology.

117. Treatment for Liver Tumor Using Combined Transarterial Embolization and Interaarterial Transfecting HIF-1α shRNA in a Rabbit VX2 Model

Background Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) has been selected as therapeutic gene in gene therapy. The aim of this study was to explore the treatment effect of combined transarterial embolization using microsphere treatment (MD) and intraarterial transfecting HIF-1α shRNA on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Materials and Methods Rabbit skin fibroblast was transfected with HIF-1α shRNA to evaluate the knocking down efficiency. Sixteen rabbit VX2 liver tumor models were randomly divided into four groups: the control group without any treatment, the MD group, the shRNA group (HIF-1α shRNA transfection by transcatheter intraarterial infusion), and the shRNA+MD group. The necrotic score, mitotic count and expression of HIF-1α, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), CD34 and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) stain were evaluated at the 14th and 28th day after treatment. The expression of HIF-1α and VEGF of VX2 tumors was also evaluated by real-time polymerase chain reaction on the 28th day. Results The expression of HIF-1α-mRNA was lower in HIF-1α shRNA group than the control (p < 0.01). The tumor size was smaller in the shRNA + MD group than the shRNA group and the MD group (p < 0.05) on the 28th day. The growth rate of tumors in the shRNA + MD group was also lower than in other groups. The gene and protein expressions of both HIF-1α and VEGF in the shRNA + MD group were lower than the MD group, shRNA group and control group on the 28th day (p < 0.05). The necrotic score was higher in the shRNA + MD group than the MD group and control group (p < 0.05). The mitotic count and PAS-positive cells in shRNA + MD group were lower and CD34 was higher than the other three groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion Compared to therapy with MD or HIF-1α shRNA with transcatheter intraarterial transfection alone, the combined treatment has a better effect on HCC.

Human Y-box binding protein 1 (YB-1) is a multifunctional protein and overexpressed in many types of cancer. It specifically recognizes DNA/RNA through a cold shock domain (CSD) and regulates nucleic acid metabolism. The C-terminal extension of CSD and the phosphorylation of S102 are indispensable for YB-1 function. Until now, the roles of the C-terminal extension and phosphorylation in gene transcription and translation are still largely unknown. Here, we solved the structure of human YB-1 CSD with a C-terminal extension sequence (CSDex). The structure reveals that the extension interacts with several residues in the conventional CSD and adopts a rigid structure instead of being disordered. Either deletion of this extension or phosphorylation of S102 destabilizes the protein and results in partial unfolding. Structural characterization of CSDex in complex with a ssDNA heptamer shows that all the seven nucleotides are involved in DNA–protein interactions and the C-terminal extension provides a unique DNA binding site. Our DNA-binding study indicates that CSDex can recognize more DNA sequences than previously thought and the phosphorylation reduces its binding to ssDNA dramatically. Our results suggest that gene transcription and translation can be regulated by changing the affinity of CSDex binding to DNA and RNA through phosphorylation, respectively.

Duck hepatitis A virus type 3 (DHAV-3) is an important pathogen that causes substantial losses in the Chinese duck industry. DHAV-3 is highly fatal to ducklings and there is no licensed vaccine in China available to reduce DHAV-3 infection. Our goal was to develop a live attenuated vaccine candidate against DHAV-3. A field isolated strain, SD, was attenuated by serially passaging in specific-pathogen-free (SPF) chicken embryos, and it lost its pathogenicity after 40 passages. The 70th passaged strain (SD70), which achieved good growth capacity in chicken embryos with a viral titer of 107.5 ELD50/mL, was chosen to be the live attenuated vaccine candidate. The SD70 strain did not cause clinical signs of disease or mortality in 1-day-old ducklings and showed no virulence reversion after seven rounds of in vivo back passages. The minimum effective dose of SD70 was determined to be 102.5 ELD50 via the vaccination route of subcutaneous inoculation. A single dose of the SD70 provided good protection to susceptible ducklings against the lethal DHAV-3 strain. Compared with the genomic sequence of the parent SD strain, the SD70 had 12 amino acid substitutions, some of which may play a role in virulence attenuation. This study demonstrated that the attenuated SD70 strain is a promising vaccine candidate for the prevention of DHAV-3 infection in China. It exhibited safety, good stability and excellent protection.

It is a well appreciated fact that temperature is one of the key factors influencing the degradation of organics. Heat exchangers are a viable option that can be used to adjust the temperature in solid waste to an extent most suitable for waste degradation. This paper focuses on an experimental and theoretical investigation of the feasibility of using a water-circulating heat exchanger for thermal regulation of waste degradation. A cylindrical bioreactor with a central pipe connected to a water circulation system is devised and instrumented. The changes in temperature and gas production were monitored during the degradation of the organic component of the waste. Test results with and without thermal regulation are analyzed and compared. In addition, an analytical model is proposed to simulate the symmetrical heat transport behavior subjected to heat exchange. Heat generation due to the degradation of organics is taken into account. There was a good correlation between the analytical model prediction and the experimental data obtained from the laboratory test and field monitoring.

Based on the development situation and challenge of organic photovoltaics (OPVs) and organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), it is necessary to develop N-type polymer building blocks with specific structures and performance. After decades of development, some excellent polymer receptor building blocks have been developed to construct N-type organic semiconductors, which have been applied in OFETs and OPVs. In this paper, four kinds of imide (bisthiophene imide BTI, bisthiazolimide BTz, naphthalimide NDI, and perylene imide PDI)-based N-type polymer semiconductor materials are introduced, and their applications in OFETs and OPVs are analyzed, too. The molecular structure design and the performance of corresponding materials are summarized to provide further guidance and reference for the design and development of high performance N-type polymer semiconductors.

New solvents are considered to be one of the effective methods to facilitate the reaction rate and lower the reaction energy barrier. However, the common method to develop a new solvent has come to a dead end. Thus, a single atom in solvent to produce a single atom solution is designed to create the breakthrough. Eight kinds of single atom solutions are prepared as new absorbents. Experiments prove the single atom in the solutions and their charge-producing effects. A density functional theory model is developed to analyze the microscale characteristics. Meanwhile, it has been applied in carbon dioxide capture. The CO2 desorption rate is intensified in the single atom solution system due to the controlled reaction energy barrier. The results show that single atom solutions produce a maximum voltage of 2.12 V and, thus, contribute to near zero energy consumption by effectively harvesting the substantial waste heat below 373 K.

This work describes the design, construction and testing of a 1.5 T cryogen-free low-temperature superconductor niobium–titanium whole-body magnet with a bore diameter of 850 mm that is suitable for clinical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) applications. The magnet is actively shielded and passively shimmed to achieve confinement within a 0.5 mT stray magnetic field at 2.5/4 m radial/axial positions and 12.1 ppm field inhomogeneity over a 45 mm diameter of spherical volume. The magnet is conductively refrigerated using a two-stage Gifford–McMahon cryocooler and can be maintained at a steady temperature below 5.7 K during MRI scanning. The MRI scanner assembled with the designed cryogen-free magnet demonstrated stable performance and provided MRI images with good quality and high contrast.

The identification and interpretation of germline BRCA1/2 variants become increasingly important in breast and ovarian cancer (OC) treatment. However, there is no comprehensive analysis of the germline BRCA1/2 variants in a Chinese population. Here we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis on such variants from 94 publications. A total of 2,128 BRCA1/2 variant records were extracted, including 601 from BRCA1 and 632 from BRCA2. In addition, 414, 734, 449, and 307 variants were also recorded in the BIC, ClinVar, ENIGMA, and UMD databases, respectively, and 579 variants were newly reported. Subsequent analysis showed that the overall germline BRCA1/2 pathogenic variant frequency was 5.7% and 21.8% in Chinese breast and OC, respectively. Populations with high-risk factors exhibited a higher pathogenic variant percentage. Furthermore, the variant profile in Chinese is distinct from that in other ethnic groups with no distinct founder pathogenic variants. We also tested our in-house American College of Medical Genetics-guided pathogenicity interpretation procedure for Chinese BRCA1/2 variants. Our results achieved a consistency of 91.2-97.6% (5-grade classification) or 98.4-100% (2-grade classification) with public databases. In conclusion, this study represents the first comprehensive meta-analysis of Chinese BRCA1/2 variants and validates our in-house pathogenicity interpretation procedure, thereby providing guidance for further PARP inhibitor development and companion diagnostics in the Chinese population.

Never-smokers with lung cancer usually have a higher survival rate than that of smokers. The high metabolic activity of lung cancer onA total of 338 patients (230 males, 108 females; mean age: 66.3, range 34-86) with pathologically diagnosed lung cancer were enrolled from September 2019 to April 2021. All patients underwent baselineOf the 338 patients, cigarette smoking was identified in 153 patients (45.3%) and the remaining 185 (54.7%) were never-smokers. Smoking was found more frequently in males, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and stage III-IV diseases. The pSUVmax in smokers was significantly higher than that in never-smokers (This study demonstrated a close association between cigarette smoking and the metabolic activity of lung cancer and suggests that smoking may be a potential risk factor of higher pSUVmax in early lung cancer on

To study the shear wave elastography (SWE) of the coracohumeral ligament (CHL) in different stages of frozen shoulder and to analyze its correlation with the visual analogue scale (VAS) score and shoulder range of motion (ROM).Sixty-four patients with frozen shoulder were divided into three stages: stage I (freezing phase), stage II (frozen phase), and stage III (thawing phase). The SWE of the CHL of the affected and healthy sides was measured and compared in the different stages. The VAS score and ROM of the affected side were evaluated, and their correlation with the SWE of the CHL was analyzed in the different stages.In stage I frozen shoulder, the SWE of the CHL on the affected side was lower than that on the healthy side, while in stages II and III, the SWE on the affected side was higher (P = .001 for all). The SWE of the CHL of the affected side was different across the three stages; the SWE in stages II and III higher than that in stage I (P .01), while the difference between stages II and III was not significant (P .05). The SWE of the CHL of the affected side was negatively correlated with the VAS score but not with forward flexion (Ff), external rotation (Er) or internal rotation (Ir) in stage I; in stages II and III, it was positively correlated with the VAS score and negatively correlated with Ff, Er, and Ir.The CHL stiffness of the affected side and its correlation with the shoulder VAS score and ROM are different for different stages of frozen shoulder.

132. A Transformer Based Complex-YOLOv4-Trans for 3D Point Cloud Object Detection on Embedded Device

3D object detection is widely used in the field of autonomous driving. The embedded devices have few resources and low power consumption, so the existing 3D object detection algorithms are difficult to complete the detection task in the required time under some conditions. In this paper, the Complex-YOLOv4-Trans model is proposed to use point cloud data for 3D object detection. Firstly, a transformer encoder block is introduced to improve the structure of Backbone, which makes full use of its context information to improve detection accuracy. Secondly, the general convolution in Backbone is replaced with a depth-wise separable convolution, which effectively reduces the computational load of the model. Finally, Complete-IoU (CIoU) is used as the loss function, and then 8-bit model quantization is performed to speed up the inference. We select the KITTI dataset and deploy the model on NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX by using TensorRT acceleration tools to test the methods. The mAP of Bird’s Eye View for Car is 71.79%, the mAP for 3D Detection is 15.82%, and the FPS on the NX device is 42 frames. Experimental results show that our Complex-YOLOv4-Trans can perform real-time 3D object detection tasks on low-energy embedded devices.

[ Objectives] The paper was to explore the control effects of different botanical pesticides against Empoasca pirisuga Matumura. [ Methods] 5% Eucalyptol SL, 0.5% matrine SL and 50% thiacloprid WDG were used to control E. pirisuga, and the decline rate of insect population was investigated. [ Results] Eucalyptol had good control effect on E. pirisuga, with slow effect but long duration. It was harmless to natural enemies in tea gardens, with high safety and no chemical injury. [ Conclusions] The study provides a theoretical basis for the appli-cation of botanical pesticides in tea production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Soy isoflavones (SI) are known for their beneficial effects in alleviating neurodegenerative diseases, while the mechanism of alleviation of depression-like behaviour by SI remains unclear. In this study, a chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS)-induced depression rat model was used to determine the effect of SI in alleviating depression-like behaviour and its possible mechanisms. SI supplements significantly improved the CUMS-induced depression-like behaviour by increasing the monoamine neurotransmitter levels. A specific SI dose significantly modulated the composition of the gut microbiota, which in turn improved the maximum biotransformation ability of SI. Spearman's correlation analysis illustrated that some of the gut microbiota genera were strongly correlated with monoamine neurotransmitters. Moreover, more attention should be paid to gender differences, which may be related to changes in the gut microbiota. These results suggest that SI might affect monoamine neurotransmitters of CUMS rats by reshaping the structure of the gut microbiota, thereby alleviating depression-like behaviour.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to evaluate the features of sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) in spleen on the imaging of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR). Materials and methods From July 2006 to April 2017, 12 patients with SANT confirmed by pathology were evaluated in a retrospective study. Eight patients were with CT imaging only, 2 patients were with MR imaging only, and 2 patients were with both CT and MR. Three professional senior radiologists analyzed the imaging features on CT and MR. The main characteristic analysis included size, margin, density, signal intensity, and enhancement pattern. The significant enhancement was defined as the degree of enhancement of lesion that is higher than the surrounding spleen parenchyma, and the mild enhancement was defined as the degree of enhancement of lesion that is lower than the surrounding spleen parenchyma. Results All the 12 patients (5 men, 7 women; mean age, 45.8 years; age range, 21-62 years) presented as single lesion without special clinical symptoms. The range of lesions on diameter was from 25 to 80 mm. On CT images, 9 (90%) of 10 presented as hypodense in comparison with the parenchyma of spleen, 1 (10%) of 10 presented as isodense, and calcification was observed in 4 (40%) of 10 cases. On MR images, 4 (100%) of 4 manifested heterogeneous hypointensity on in-phase sequence and 3 (75%) of 4 performed as isointensity on out-of-phase sequence of T1-weighted. On the sequences of T2-weighted and diffusion-weighted image, 4 (100%) of 4 showed hypointensity. On CT and MR enhancement images, the number of significant enhancement and mild enhancement was 2 and 10, respectively. Seven (58%) of 12 showed progressive enhancement with the pattern of "spoke-wheel." Conclusions Imaging features on CT and MR have a high diagnostic value for SANT, especially when CT combined with MR examination.

The aim of this study was to investigate the inhibitory mechanism of oenothein B (OeB), a unique oligomer ellagitannin with a rigid structure, on porcine trypsin using fluorescence spectroscopy, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), circular dichroism (CD) and molecular docking. Trypsin activity was strongly inhibited by OeB in a competitive way. Fluorescence quenching of trypsin by OeB was a static quenching. The CD spectra showed that binding of OeB to trypsin altered trypsin's conformation. The ITC and docking studies revealed that the inhibitory mechanism of OeB occurred via binding to the interior hydrophobic groups of trypsin and the formation of hydrogen bonds with trypsin through binding to the amino acid residues Asn97, His573, Ser195 and Gln192. This study provides a theoretical and computational basis for the precise control of trypsin in food industry. Based on the results, OeB may be used in food technology research as novel bioactive trypsin inhibitor.

Accurate and highly sensitive detection of viable but nonculturable (VBNC) Vibrio parahaemolyticus is crucial for preventing seafood-related outbreaks. The VBNC state may occur due to bacterial susceptibility to cold shock during food storage. Propidium monoazide (PMA) has been widely applied to detect VBNC foodborne pathogens. In this study, we developed and compared real-time PCR (qPCR) and real-time LAMP (qLAMP) methods combined with an improved propidium monoazide (PMAxx) to detect pathogenic VBNC V. parahaemolyticus. The designed primers and probes were determined to be highly selective for V. parahaemolyticus strains. The combined PMAxx-qPCR method, requiring 100 min, demonstrated a quantification limit of 10.5 colony-forming units (CFU)/mL in pure culture and 28 CFU/g in raw shrimp respectively, which were 10-fold lower than the PMAxx-qLAMP method (45min). When testing mixtures containing different ratios of VBNC to dead V. parahaemolyticus, PMAxx-based methods were notably superior at distinguishing between VBNC and dead bacteria when VBNC cell concentrations were low. Therefore, PMAxx is an effective means for improving the detection and quantification of VBNC V. parahaemolyticus by qPCR and qLAMP. Pretreatment with PMAxx was shown to be suitable for detection of VBNC V. parahaemolyticus in complex food samples, including raw shrimp.

Systemic vasculitis involving the breast is a rare clinical condition and may mimic breast cancer or mastitis clinically or radiographically. Here, we report a case of polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) with breast involvement and perform a literature review of published cases of systemic vasculitis affecting the breast to better understand this disorder. We report a case of PAN affecting the right breast in a young woman. A retrospective review was performed by searching Medline, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and Scopus for cases of systemic vasculitis involving the breast written in English up to June 1st, 2018. A 27-year-old woman presented with a painful mass in the right breast was diagnosed as PAN by the biopsy. She was treated with prednisone and methotrexate for 6 months, at which time her condition had stabilized and inflammatory markers had normalized. A total of 66 cases were identified, with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), giant cell arteritis (GCA), and PAN as the main types. The typical manifestation was mass (79.2%, 53/67) in the breast, and all diagnoses were made by the pathology of the breast biopsy. Glucocorticoid and immunosuppressant were the main therapies, and 74.6% (50/67) patients achieved remission during follow-up. Our case and a literature review of 66 cases of systemic vasculitis involving the breast reveal the importance of tissue biopsy to obtain a definitive diagnosis, because the vasculitis subtype strongly influences prognosis.

The atomic mobilities of Co, Mn, Pt and Re in face-centered cubic (fcc) Co–X ( X = Mn, Pt and Re) alloys have been assessed as a function of temperature and composition by CALculation of PHAse Diagram (CALPHAD) approach. To validate the literature data and provide new experimental data, we prepared two fcc Co–Mn diffusion couples, which were used to determine the composition-dependent inter-diffusivities at 1073 and 1273 K. Based on various kinds of experimental diffusivities available in the literature and the experimental results in this work, the atomic mobilities in fcc Co–X (X = Mn, Pt and Re) alloys were obtained. Comprehensive comparisons between the calculated and measured diffusivities show that most of the experimental data can be well reproduced by the presently obtained atomic mobilities.

Eu-doped Ce:YAG single crystal (SC) was fabricated by the Czochralski method. The crystal structure, optical and photoelectric property of the constructed w-LED was investigated. The XRD and HRTEM results show that YAG crystal structure has little change when Eu3+, Ce3+ are doped. Absorption spectra and photoluminescence spectra show that the Ce,Eu:YAG single crystal can effectively absorb the 460 nm blue light to form a broadband emission center at 530 nm, decay curves of the crystal show that the energy transfer between Ce3+ and Eu3+ is highly suppressed. Compared with commercial Ce:YAG phosphor, Ce,Eu:YAG exhibits better thermal stability.

Adversarial training (AT) formulated as the minimax optimization problem can effectively enhance the model's robustness against adversarial attacks. The existing AT methods mainly focused on manipulating the inner maximization for generating quality adversarial variants or manipulating the outer minimization for designing effective learning objectives. However, empirical results of AT always exhibit the robustness at odds with accuracy and the existence of the cross-over mixture problem, which motivates us to study some label randomness for benefiting the AT. First, we thoroughly investigate noisy labels (NLs) injection into AT's inner maximization and outer minimization, respectively and obtain the observations on when NL injection benefits AT. Second, based on the observations, we propose a simple but effective method -- NoiLIn that randomly injects NLs into training data at each training epoch and dynamically increases the NL injection rate once robust overfitting occurs. Empirically, NoiLIn can significantly mitigate the AT's undesirable issue of robust overfitting and even further improve the generalization of the state-of-the-art AT methods. Philosophically, NoiLIn sheds light on a new perspective of learning with NLs: NLs should not always be deemed detrimental, and even in the absence of NLs in the training set, we may consider injecting them deliberately.
