103. A genome-wide association study to identify candidate genes for erectile dysfunction.

Abstract

Erectile dysfunction (ED) can be caused by different diseases and controlled by several genetic networks. In this study, to identify the genes related to ED, the expression profiles of normal and ED samples were investigated by the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Seventeen genes were identified as associated genes with ED. The protein and nucleic acid sequences of selected genes were retrieved from the UCSC database. Selected genes were diverse according to their physicochemical properties and functions. Category function revealed that selected genes are involved in pathways related to humans some diseases. Furthermore, based on protein interactions, genes associated with the insulin pathway had the greatest interaction with the studied genes. To identify the common cis -regulatory elements, the promoter site of the selected genes was retrieved from the UCSC database. The Gapped Local Alignment of Motifs tool was used for finding common conserved motifs into the promoter site of selected genes. Besides, INSR protein as an insulin receptor precursor showed a high potential site for posttranslation modifications, including phosphorylation and N-glycosylation. Also, in this study, two Guanine-Cytosine (GC)-rich regions were identified as conserved motifs in the upstream of studied genes which can be involved in regulating the expression of genes associated with ED. Also, the conserved binding site of miR-29-3p that is involved in various cancers was observed in the 3′ untranslated region of genes associated with ED. Abstract

IMPORTANCE: The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019 (GBD 2019) provided systematic estimates of incidence, morbidity, and mortality to inform local and international efforts toward reducing cancer burden. OBJECTIVE: To estimate cancer burden and trends globally for 204 countries and territories and by Sociodemographic Index (SDI) quintiles from 2010 to 2019. EVIDENCE REVIEW: The GBD 2019 estimation methods were used to describe cancer incidence, mortality, years lived with disability, years of life lost, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) in 2019 and over the past decade. Estimates are also provided by quintiles of the SDI, a composite measure of educational attainment, income per capita, and total fertility rate for those younger than 25 years. Estimates include 95% uncertainty intervals (UIs). FINDINGS: In 2019, there were an estimated 23.6 million (95% UI, 22.2-24.9 million) new cancer cases (17.2 million when excluding nonmelanoma skin cancer) and 10.0 million (95% UI, 9.36-10.6 million) cancer deaths globally, with an estimated 250 million (235-264 million) DALYs due to cancer. Since 2010, these represented a 26.3% (95% UI, 20.3%-32.3%) increase in new cases, a 20.9% (95% UI, 14.2%-27.6%) increase in deaths, and a 16.0% (95% UI, 9.3%-22.8%) increase in DALYs. Among 22 groups of diseases and injuries in the GBD 2019 study, cancer was second only to cardiovascular diseases for the number of deaths, years of life lost, and DALYs globally in 2019. Cancer burden differed across SDI quintiles. The proportion of years lived with disability that contributed to DALYs increased with SDI, ranging from 1.4% (1.1%-1.8%) in the low SDI quintile to 5.7% (4.2%-7.1%) in the high SDI quintile. While the high SDI quintile had the highest number of new cases in 2019, the middle SDI quintile had the highest number of cancer deaths and DALYs. From 2010 to 2019, the largest percentage increase in the numbers of cases and deaths occurred in the low and low-middle SDI quintiles. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: The results of this systematic analysis suggest that the global burden of cancer is substantial and growing, with burden differing by SDI. These results provide comprehensive and comparable estimates that can potentially inform efforts toward equitable cancer control around the world.

107. Evaluation of Camelina sativa Doubled Haploid Lines for the Response to Water-deficit Stress.

Abstract

Camelina is low input and re-emergent medicinal and oilseed crop that it needs a lot of research to make the most of its genetic potential. This study aimed to evaluate the water deficit tolerance of six genotypes (Soheil cultivar and DH083, DH095, DH111, DH116, and DH133 doubled haploid lines) of camelina for some traits in the greenhouse and laboratory conditions. In the greenhouse condition, the response of camelina genotypes to irrigating regime (once every 4, 7 and 10 days) was investigated for some agro-morphological traits. This experiment was done in a randomized complete block design. Analysis of variance showed that the studied genotypes, as well as drought stress levels, were significantly different in terms of plant height, root length, root weight, grain yield, biological yield and harvest index. Mean comparison results also showed that the Soheil cultivar had the highest grain yield (3.03 g/m²). At the laboratory section and the cotyledon culture and callus induction experiment, six lines were evaluated by four levels of PEG 6000 (0, 10, 20 and 30%) for water-deficit stress in a randomized completely design. The callus growth rate, relative callus growth rate and relative callus water content under stress conditions were also studied. There was a significant difference between studied genotypes in studied traits under stress conditions and between different stress levels. In this section, the Soheil cultivar was identified as high tolerant cultivar among other genotypes due to its relative water content (8.3%) and higher callus growth rate (4.2%). So the cultivar Soheil is considered as the least susceptible to dehydration in terms of greenhouse studies and callus induction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In order to investigate the effect of intercropping and sole cropping of barley and narbon vetch with weed control and interference conditions on their qualitative and quantitative traits, this experiment was conducted with 5 levels of intercropping (seed contribution): sole cropping of narbon vetch, 75:25 (narbon vetch : barley), 50:50, 25:75 and sole cropping of barley. Two levels of weed control and weed interference in row replacement series system in the form of factorial was designed with Randomized Complete Blocked Design (RCBD) in 3 replications in the College of Agriculture, Lorestan University, from 2006 - 2007. Results showed that the interaction of weed and the contribution of complementary components of intercropping has significant effect on crude protein (CP) and neutral detergent fibers (NDF) content in barley. Maximum CP and NDF were related to sole cropping of barley (infected by weeds), and maximum CP with minimum NDF were related to (narbon vetch: barley) 75:25 treatment, so that 31% of CP decreased in sole cropping of barley (infected by weeds) when compared with 75:25 combination. NDF percentage in sole cropping increased to 16.6%, therefore 25:75 (narbon vetch: barley) combination was better than the others. So, in order to get proper percentage of protein and digestibility of forage for livestock, 75:25 (infected by weeds) combination is better, especially the combination of 25:75 (infected by weeds), due to its high protein content. The highest and lowest dry forage production of barley were related to its sole cropping (a control which is equal to 3.75 t/ha) and 75:25 barley (infected by weeds that are equal to 1.59 t/ha), respectively.Keywords: Qualitative and quantitative, barley, narbon vetch, weed, dry land

•There are no reports on the separate and combined role of chitosan nanoparticles with bio-fertilizers in quantitative and qualitative evaluation of camelina oil.•Seed yield, oil content, and oil yield of camelina decreased in rainfed conditions, however, supplementary irrigation improved the mentioned traits.•The application of 50 % CF + BF + CS reduced the impact of drought and maintained higher growth and physio-chemical traits of the plants.•In rainfed conditions, combined application of BF + CS and in supplementary irrigation conditions, the application of 50 % CF + BF + CS significantly increased the quantity and quality of camelina.

Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to study of water relations and chlorophyll in different wheat genotypes and their correlations with grain and biological yields. 21 genotypes of bread wheat were compared in a field experiment as randomized complete blocks design with four replications. The results showed that relative water deficit, relative water loss, excised leaf water retention, cell membrane stability, chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-b, total chlorophyll, grain yield and biological yield were different significantly among wheat genotypes, but SPAD-chlorophyll index, relative water content and chlorophyll florescence were not. 141. Effect of mannitol on some morphological characteristics of in vitro stevia rebaudiana Bertoni.

Abstract

Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni is a Paraguayan perennial antidiabetic herb belongs to Asteraceae family. The Leaves of stevia are about 300 times sweeter than sugar with no calories, that are the source of diterpene glycosides such as stevioside and rebaudioside A. Tissue culture is a rapid tool for propagation of stevia. In this research we studied the effect of different concentrations of mannitol on some morphological aspects of stevia under in vitro conditions. Axillary nodes were used as explants and they were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with different concentrations of mannitol (0, %1, %2, %3, %4 and %5) as an osmotic stress. The cultures were maintained for 4 weeks at a temperature of 25±2°C with a photoperiod of 16/8 hour low light/dark per day. Maximum shoot length (111.00±3.26 mm) was observed on a MS medium without mannitol and minimum shoot length (20.46±2.89 mm) was observed on a MS medium with %5 mannitol. It was observed that by increasing the concentration of mannitol in medium, shoot length, internode length, fresh weight of plants and growth rate were decreased. Maximum (54±1.45) and minimum (28.93±1.85) number of leaves was observed on a MS medium with %3 and %5 of mannitol respectively. Moreover, the results showed that osmotic stress significantly reduces the growth and yield components of S. rebaudiana Bertoni. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

142. Anther culture response and genetic relationships between Iranian and European barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivars.

Abstract

Barley is a widely adaptable cereal grain, but with a low response from anther cultures to callus induction. In this study, the response to anther culture and the genetic diversity of 16 Iranian and 26 European barley cultivars were evaluated using 20 ISSR (Inter Simple Sequence Repeats) primers. The callus induction phase was investigated based on a completely randomized design with an unequal number of replications. The regeneration phase was studied using a factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design with 3 replications. The factors included the tested cultivars and several growth regulators. All cultivars that responded to anther cultures (8 of 42 cultivars) had European origin. A correlation analysis showed the highest correlation between the callus size and its growth rate. A cluster analysis based on anther culture traits grouped 8 cultivars into 2 classes. The effect of growth regulators was not significant for total regeneration ratio, green and albino plants ratio. The results showed that the efficiency of the anther culture method is largely dependent on the plant genotype. The percentage of polymorphism using ISSR markers ranged from 50 to 78.94. The range of genetic similarity coefficients among barley cultivars was from 0.138 to 0.867. According to the Mantel test, there was no significant correlation between the assumed variation patterns using ISSR molecular markers and anther culture data. The cluster analysis based on the ISSR markers divided 42 barley cultivars into 6 classes, although there was no clear pattern of clustering for differentiation between Iranian and European cultivars. Abstract

In current research to assess the presence of variability for desired traits and amount of variation for different parameters, common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) genotypes were sown in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of some yield components on yield via path analysis, estimating genetic and phenotypic correlation coefficients and heritability in 9 common bean genotypes. Results showed that differences between genotypes in all the parameters, except for internode diameter (IND), number of seeds per pod (NSPP), seed diameter (SD), internodal length (INL) and hundred seed weight (HSW) were significant. The estimates of GCV were high for harvest index (123.98), number of nodes on the main stem (70.04), weight of pods per plant (54.13), grain yield per plant (50.33). Low broad sense heritabilities assign that if compared with number of nodes on the main stem, biological yield, weight of pods per plant, chlorophyll fluorescence, harvest index and straw weight, environmental effects on plant height, number of seeds per pod, internode diameter, pod length free tail, seed diameter, internodal length and hundred seed weight were found to be much higher. Grain yield per plant showed high significant positive genetic and phenotypic correlation with only weight of pods per plant. Path analysis indicated that the initial level of grain yield per plant, weight of pods per plant had the highest (1.313) direct effect on grain yield. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the most important plant protein resources. Plant breeding is important for ensuring food security by developing new varieties that are higher-yielding. One of the methods for increasing of plant variation is somaclonal variation. The most common factors affecting somaclonal variation are explant type and plant growth regulators. The present study was carried out for comparison of different explant types and plant growth regulators in chickpea (Bivanij cultivar) in order to callus induction. In this experiment four explants (embryo, cotyledon, node and hypocotyl) were cultured on the best growth regulators compositions that have been previously reported. The evaluated parameters include percentages of callus induction, number of days for callus induction and callus growth. Results showed that the embryos showed 100% callus induction in almost in all mediums. Cotyledons, nodes and hypocotyls medium supplemented by 0.5 mg/1 BAP+ 0.5 mg/1 NAA showed 95, 70 and 100 percentage callus induction respectively. The highest callus growth was belong to embryo in medium supplemented by 1.5 mg/1 BAP+ 2.5mg/l NAA (0.165 mm d /d ) and the lowest was belong to cotyledon in medium supplemented by 0.1mg/l NAA+ 0.5 mg/1 2,4-D (0.004 mm d/d).
