Abstract Many mycophagous Drosophila species have adapted to tolerate high concentrations of mycotoxins, an ability not reported in any other eukaryotes. Although an association between mycophagy and mycotoxin tolerance has been established in many Drosophila species, the genetic mechanisms of the tolerance are unknown. This study presents the inter‐ and intraspecific variation in the mycotoxin tolerance trait. We studied the mycotoxin tolerance in four Drosophila species from four separate clades within the immigrans‐tripunctata radiation from two distinct locations. The effect of mycotoxin treatment on 20 isofemale lines per species was studied using seven gross phenotypes: survival to pupation, survival to eclosion, development time to pupation and eclosion, thorax length, fecundity, and longevity. We observed interspecific variation among four species, with D. falleni being the most tolerant, followed by D. recens, D. neotestacea, and D. tripunctata, in that order. The results also revealed geographical variation and intraspecific genetic variation in mycotoxin tolerance. This report provides the foundation for further delineating the genetic mechanisms of the mycotoxin tolerance trait.

Three bottom trawl surveys over the northern continental slope in the South China Sea (18°50′–20°40′N, 112°50′–115°10′E) were carried out, in June 2015, March 2017 and September 2018, to investigate species composition, biodiversity and community structure of demersal fish. Surveys in 2015, 2017 and 2018 captured 97 fish species (representing 77 genera, 52 families, 26 orders), 108 fish species (representing 84 genera, 61 families, 19 orders) and 126 fish species (representing 105 genera, 74 families, 25 orders), respectively. Three surveys captured a total of 252 fish species, representing 164 genera, 97 families, 30 orders. Perciformes dominated. Species richness in station linking shallow continental shelf with deep slope was the lowest among stations. In three surveys, 16 species occurred in the catches of three surveys, accounting for 6.35% of all species. Species replacement rate between stations showed a significant linear relationship with the depth difference and latitude difference. Margalef’s species richness index (D), Shannon–Weiner diversity index (H’) and Pielou’s evenness index (J’) among stations ranged 2.65–6.74, 1.02–4.15 and 0.28–1.14, respectively. Differences of D, H’ and J’ were insignificant among seasons. There were significant positive linear relations between H’ and J’ and latitude. D, H’ and J’ decreased with increasing sampling depth, however the relations were not significant. Based on multivariate statistical analysis, fish community at species level was divided into five groups with average dissimilarities of 95.69%–99.96%. In terms of genus and family, average dissimilarities among groups were more than 88.11% and 82.69%. There were significant differences in species composition between depths, but no significant differences between seasons and temperatures, as well as in genus and family composition.

Evidence of active tuberculosis (ATB) in patients with rheumatic diseases are research priorities but limited data from China have been reported. Research targeting patients not taking anti-TNF biologics are especially insufficient. We aimed to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of ATB in this at-risk population. We conducted a tertiary hospital-based, multi-center, cross-sectional study by using stratified multi-stage cluster sampling strategy to screen ATB in patients with rheumatic diseases. We estimated the prevalence of ATB in patients with rheumatic diseases and identified risk factors among those who were not taking anti-TNF biologic. A total of 13,550 eligible patients were enrolled, and the result showed the standardized prevalence of ATB according to the composition ratio of various types of rheumatic disease was 882/100000 (95% confidence interval (CI): 706-1057). Multivariable logistic regression analysis in patients not taking anti-TNF biologics showed that the independent risk factors of ATB were having systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (OR=2.722, 95% CI: 1.437-5.159, p=0.002), having Behcet’s disease (BD) (OR= 5.261, 95% CI: 2.071-13.365, p

Software cost estimation is crucial to software management, which has received considerable attention from both industry and academia. Software size is an important metric that forms the cornerstone of software cost estimation. The function point has been proven to be a useful software size unit for size estimation and has been successfully implemented in many countries. However, in current practice, the rule of function point size method is complicated and performed manually. Consequently, it is costly in both time and resources spent to apply these methods, especially in the scenario of large-scale software development in the industry. In this paper, a deep learning-based named entity recognition (NER) model was designed in place of manual function point recognition. In particular, a BiLSTM-CRF model was trained on previously labeled requirements in the industry to classify the function point type of new requirements in the same domain. The proposed method was verified on 29 real projects provided by our industry partner. A comparative experiment was designed for the quantitative evaluation of efficiency improvement of the proposed NER model aided function point estimation. The result suggests that, for the NER model, the precision and F1 of the BiLSTM-CRF-based function point analysis on test samples achieved 94.5% and 80.3%, respectively. Moreover, the improvement in the efficiency of the software size estimation process achieved an average of 38.6%, which is a significant enhancement for the function point-based software size estimation.

Gene expression data features high dimensionality, multicollinearity, and non-Gaussian distribution noise, posing hurdles for identification of true regulatory genes controlling a biological process or pathway. In this study, we integrated the Huber loss function and the Berhu penalty (HB) into partial least squares (PLS) framework to deal with the high dimension and multicollinearity property of gene expression data, and developed a new method called HB-PLS regression to model the relationships between regulatory genes and pathway genes. To solve the Huber-Berhu optimization problem, an accelerated proximal gradient descent algorithm with at least 10 times faster than the general convex optimization solver (CVX), was developed. Application of HB-PLS to recognize pathway regulators of lignin biosynthesis and photosynthesis in Arabidopsis thaliana led to the identification of many known positive pathway regulators that had previously been experimentally validated. As compared to sparse partial least squares (SPLS) regression, an efficient method for variable selection and dimension reduction in handling multicollinearity, HB-PLS has higher efficacy in identifying more positive known regulators, a much higher but slightly less sensitivity/(1-specificity) in ranking the true positive known regulators to the top of the output regulatory gene lists for the two aforementioned pathways. In addition, each method could identify some unique regulators that cannot be identified by the other methods. Our results showed that the overall performance of HB-PLS slightly exceeds that of SPLS but both methods are instrumental for identifying real pathway regulators from high-throughput gene expression data, suggesting that integration of statistics, machine leaning and convex optimization can result in a method with high efficacy and is worth further exploration.

Abstract Background Lycorine hydrochloride (LH), an alkaloid extracted from the bulb of the Lycoris radiata, is considered to have anti-viral, anti-malarial, and anti-tumorous effects. At present, the underlying mechanisms of LH in gastric cancer remain unclear. MCL1, an anti-apoptotic protein of BCL2 family, is closely related to drug resistance of tumor. Therefore, MCL1 is considered as a potential target for cancer treatment. Methods The effect of LH on gastric cancer was assessed in vitro (by MTT, BrdU, western blotting…) and in vivo (by immunohistochemistry). Results In this study, we showed that LH has an anti-tumorous effect by down-regulating MCL1 in gastric cancer. Besides, we unveiled that LH reduced the protein stability of MCL1 by up-regulating ubiquitin E3 ligase FBXW7, arrested cell cycle at S phase and triggered apoptosis of gastric cancer cells. Meanwhile, we also demonstrated that LH could induce apoptosis of the BCL2-drug-resistant-cell-lines. Moreover, PDX (Patient-Derived tumor xenograft) model experiment proved that LH combined with HA14–1 (inhibitor of BCL2), had a more significant therapeutic effect on gastric cancer. Conclusions The efficacy showed in our data suggests that lycorine hydrochloride is a promising anti-tumor compound for gastric cancer.

High temperature deformation behavior and workability of Mg–8.1Gd–4.5Y–0.3Zr alloy were studied by compression tests. Arrhenius equation with strain compensation and processing maps were established. The results show that the activation energy Q, structure factor α, n and ln A varies with the strain, its relationship fit well by fifth order polynomial. The flow stresses predicted by the extracted model are in good agreement with the experimental results. There are five typical domains in the processing map, and the deformation mechanisms in different domains were determined by microstructure analysis. The feasible processing window of the alloy is in the areas of 400–500 °C/0.001–0.1 s−1.

Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic has become a great threat to public health, which has greatly impacted the study and life of undergraduate students in China. This study aims to perform a survey of their knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) associated with COVID-19. Methods A cross-sectional survey was designed to gather information regarding the COVID-19 related KAP among undergraduates during the home isolation in the outbreak. Subjects were recruited from 10 universities in Shaanxi Province, China. Enrollees voluntarily submitted their answers to a pre-designed questionnaire online. Results A total of 872 subjects (female, 534; male, 338) were enrolled with ages from 17 to 25 years old. This cohort included 430 medical and 442 non-medical students, 580 freshmen and 292 higher school year students. There were 453 from public schools and 442 from private school, residing in 28 regions and provinces at the time of study. Abstract Background Preventive intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) for high-risk patients with stable hemodynamics is controversial, and its definition of high-risk is still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effect of prophylactic IABP on the early outcome of left main disease (LMD) patients receiving off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCABG) with stable hemodynamics. Methods From January 2013 to April 2020, 257 consecutive patients who underwent OPCABG through sternotomy were enrolled in this study. All LMD patients (greater than 70%) had stable hemodynamics (BP>100 mmHg without vasoconstrictor substance infusion). Early outcomes of 125 patients with prophylactic IABP (IABP group) and 132 patients without IABP (Control group) were compared in this study. Results IABP did not show favorable effect on the conversion to CPB (RR 0.63, 95%CI 0.05–7.89, P = 0.7211), perioperative MI (RR 0.69, 95%CI 0.22–2.12, P = 0.5163), mortality (RR 0.65, 95%CI 0.04–10.25, P = 0.7608) or the composite end of the conversion, MI and mortality (RR 0.63, 95%CI 0.23–1.74, P = 0.3747). There was greater incidence of prolonged ventilation in IABP after adjustment (RR2.16, 95%CI 1.12–4.18, P = 0.0221). There was no IABP-related mortality or limb ischemia. Conclusion No significant difference in early outcomes was observed in hemodynamically stable patients with LMD between prophylactic IABP group and control group. Prophylactic IABP may be unnecessary in patients with LMD undergoing OPCABG.

Cobalt catalyst has been widely used for Fischer-Tropsch (FT) Synthesis in Industry. The most common method to prepare cobalt catalyst is impregnations. Metal is deposited on porous support by contacting dry support with solution containing dissolved cobalt precursor. This step will follow by drying, calcination and reduction. The heating step used in this conventional method, however, may lead to the formation of metal silicate which is inactive site for catalysis. In this study, author explore the use of microwave to prepare catalyst compared to conventional drying method. Cobalt catalyst with SiO2 support was prepared and characterized. Particle size, surface area, and cobalt content were investigated. Crystallite size of 3-8 nm was formed which was reported to be the optimum size for cobalt catalyst in FT Synthesis. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) image revealed that microwave catalyst showed better uniformity and cobalt dispersion on silica support. Thermo-Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) study also indicated that this catalyst has good stability at Low Temperature Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis. The catalysts were then applied plasma assisted FT process over a range of power plasma (20-60W) to investigate the effect on the conversion and selectivity. The results showed that microwave catalyst exhibit lower CO conversion at 42.06% compared to conventional method at 68.32%. However, microwave catalyst is more favourable for long chain hydrocarbon selectivity.

Abstract Background With the development of wearable health-monitoring technologies, a variety of textile electrodes have been produced and applied by researchers. However, there are no universal and effective methods even testing platforms for evaluating the skin–electrode electrochemical interface for textile electrodes because different human bodies have different skin characteristics. Methods An electrochemical modeling and evaluation for textile electrodes to skin was proposed, and two electrochemical evaluation platforms (EEP) were set up based on two simulated skin models (SSM). First, skin–electrode electrochemical interface (SEEI) models for traditional wet electrodes and textile electrodes were analyzed. Based on the SEEI models and YY/T 0196-2005 (Chinese YY/T pharmaceutical industry standard for disposable ECG electrode), three skin–electrode electrochemical characteristics (SEEC), including skin–electrode static impedance (SESI), skin–electrode alternating current impedance (SEAI), and skin–electrode polarization voltage (SEPV), were proposed. Then, three electrochemical evaluation methods for textile electrodes to skin were proposed and analyzed, which were the correlation between SEEC and skin–electrode contact pressure (SECP), skin–electrode relative movement (SERM), and conduction loss of active signals (CLAS). Finally, an electrochemical evaluation platform was set up based on an active simulated skin model (ASSM) and passive simulated skin model (PSSM). Results 9 feature parameters based on the passive electrochemical evaluation platform (PEEP) and 11 feature parameters based on the active electrochemical evaluation platform (AEEP) were obtained for evaluating textile electrodes. And four kinds of textile electrode characteristics including SEEC, SECP, SERM, and CLAS were quantitatively measured based on the electrochemical evaluation platform, and the testing accuracy and range for these characteristics were measured separately. Finally, correlation between SEEC and SECP for 10 kinds of textile electrode samples was studied, and 14 electrochemical characteristics and four skin–electrode contact pressure characteristics were extracted. Experimental results showed that significant correlations were found between six SEEC characteristics and SECP characteristics, and the correlation coefficient between ACI_3 and USECP was the highest. And the polarization voltages of most dry electrode samples showed a downward trend with the increase of contact pressure. Conclusions The electrochemical evaluation platform yielded effective experimental data and could provide strong support for the evaluation and application of textile electrodes, which was also effective in evaluating other bioelectric electrodes such as 3M electrode, stainless steel electrode, dry electrode and microneedle electrode.

In the world, more than 80% of the fisheries by numbers and about half of the catches have not been formally analyzed and evaluated due to limited data. It has led to the fast growth of data-poor evaluation methods. There have been various studies carried out on the comparative performance of data-poor and data-moderate methods in evaluating fishery exploitation status. However, most studies to date have focused on coastal fish stocks with simple data sources. It is important to pay attention to high sea fisheries because they are exploited by multiple countries, fishing gears and data may be divrsified and inconsistent. Furthermore, a comparison of the performance of catch-based, length-based, and abundance-based methods to estimate fishery status is needed. This study is the first attempt to apply catch-based, length-based, and abundance-based data-poor methods to stock assessment for an oceanic tuna fishery and to compare the performance with a data-moderate model. Results showed that the three data-poor methods with various types of data did not produce an entirely consistent stock status of the southern Atlantic albacore (Thunnus alalunga) fishery in 2005, as the estimated B2005/BMSY ranged from 0.688 to 1.3 and F2005/FMSY ranged from 0.708 to 1.6. The Monte Carlo Catch maximum sustainable yield model (CMSY) produced a similar time series of B/BMSY and F/FMSY and stock status (recovering) to the Bayesian state-space Schaefer model (BSM). The abundance-based method (AMSY) gave the most conservative condition (overfished) of this fishery. Sensitivity analysis showed the results of the length-based Bayesian biomass estimation method (LBB) are sensitive to Linf settings, and the results with higher Linf were similar to those of other models. However, the LBB results with setting Linf at lower levels produced more optimistic conditions (healthy). Our results highlight that attention should be paid to the settings of model parameter priors and different trends implied in various types of data when using these data-poor methods.

ObjectivesThis study aimed to investigate the changes in quantity and function of T helper (Th)-like T regulatory (Treg) cell subsets in peripheral blood (PB) and synovial fluid (SF) of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and to understand their relationship with disease activity.MethodsA total of 86 RA patients and 76 gender and age-matched healthy controls (HC) were enrolled in this study. Th-like Treg frequency and function were determined using flow cytometry. The inhibitory function of Th-like Treg cells was detected using an in vitro co-culture suppression assay.ResultsThe proportion and absolute number of Th1-like Treg cells from RA PB and RA SF were significantly higher than those of HC PB. In RA SF, the proportions of Treg cells and Th1-like Treg cells were significantly lower in the elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate or the C-Reactive Protein group, and in the positive groups of anti-CCP antibody and anti-MCV antibody. Additionally, the proportions of Treg cells and Th1-like Treg cells from RA SF were negatively correlated with disease activity. However, the expression levels of CD73 and TGF-β1 in Th1-like Treg cells were decreased, and these Treg cells could not effectively inhibit the proliferation of effector T (Teff) cells.ConclusionOur data indicate that Th1-like Treg cells are the predominant Treg cell subset in RA SF, but their suppressive function is defective. Improving the function of Th1-like Treg cells may control inflammation in joints and provide new strategies for Treg-targeted therapies in RA.

The influence of sediment media on the blade pressure and cavitation of a tubular turbine was investigated in this study. The Zwart–Geber–Belamri cavitation model and the shear stress transport k–w turbulence model were applied to numerically simulate and experimentally validate the full flow path of the tubular turbine under combined conditions for sediment particle sizes of 0.01 and 0.05 mm and concentrations of 1%, 1.5%, and 2%. The results show that the pressure of the blade increases with the sediment concentration. Cavitation mainly occurs between the blade shroud and the leading edge. The higher the sediment concentration, the lower the vapor volume fraction at the same sediment particle size. The presence of sediments inhibits further cavitation development, and the inhibition effect is significant. At the same concentration, the larger the particle size of the sediment, the lower the vapor volume fraction. Thus, the increase in the particle size inhibits cavitation, but the inhibition effect is not significant.

BackgroundMitral valve surgery (MVS) is an effective treatment for mitral valve diseases. There is a lack of reliable personalized risk prediction models for mortality in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery. Our aim was to develop a risk stratification system to predict all-cause mortality in patients after mitral valve surgery.MethodsDifferent machine learning models for the prediction of all-cause mortality were trained on a derivation cohort of 1,883 patients undergoing mitral valve surgery [split into a training cohort (70%) and internal validation cohort (30%)] to predict all-cause mortality. Forty-five clinical variables routinely evaluated at discharge were used to train the models. The best performance model (PRIME score) was tested in an externally validated cohort of 220 patients undergoing mitral valve surgery. The model performance was evaluated according to the area under the curve (AUC). Net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) were compared with existing risk strategies.ResultsAfter a median follow-up of 2 years, there were 133 (7.063%) deaths in the derivation cohort and 17 (7.727%) deaths in the validation cohort. The PRIME score showed an AUC of 0.902 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.849–0.956) in the internal validation cohort and 0.873 (95% CI: 0.769–0.977) in the external validation cohort. In the external validation cohort, the performance of the PRIME score was significantly improved compared with that of the existing EuroSCORE II (NRI = 0.550, [95% CI 0.001–1.099], P = 0.049, IDI = 0.485, [95% CI 0.230–0.741], P < 0.001).ConclusionMachine learning-based model (the PRIME score) that integrate clinical, demographic, imaging, and laboratory features demonstrated superior performance for the prediction of mortality patients after mitral valve surgery compared with the traditional risk model EuroSCORE II.Clinical Trial Registration[http://www.clinicaltrials.gov], identifier [NCT05141292].

Background: Endothelial dysfunction is implicated in various inflammatory diseases such as ischemic stroke, heart attack, organ failure, and COVID-19. Recent studies have shown that endothelial dysfunction in the brain is attributed to excessive inflammatory responses caused by the SARS-CoV-2 infection, leading to increased permeability of the blood-brain barrier and consequently neurological damage. Here, we aim to examine the single-cell transcriptomic landscape of endothelial dysfunction in COVID-19 and its implications for glioblastoma (GBM) progression. Methods: Single-cell transcriptome data GSE131928 and GSE159812 were obtained from the gene expression omnibus (GEO) to analyze the expression profiles of key players in innate immunity and inflammation between brain endothelial dysfunction caused by COVID-19 and GBM progression. Results: Single-cell transcriptomic analysis of the brain of COVID-19 patients revealed that endothelial cells had undergone significant transcriptomic changes, with several genes involved in immune responses and inflammation upregulated. Moreover, transcription factors were observed to modulate this inflammation, including interferon-regulated genes. Conclusions: The results indicate a significant overlap between COVID-19 and GBM in the context of endothelial dysfunction, suggesting that there may be an endothelial dysfunction link connecting severe SARS-CoV-2 infection in the brain to GBM progression.

Improving prediction of ecological responses to climate variability requires understanding how local fish population dynamics are impacted by climate events. The present study was conducted in the Beibu Gulf of the northwestern South China Sea where the fisheries are characterized by high ecological and commercial value. We evaluated the relationship between major commercial fish population dynamics (abundance and distribution) and climate periods, using survey data from 2006–2020. The analysis using random forest and GAM models show that climate events are not the best predictors for the variations of fish abundance, because abundance of most fish stocks decreases significantly with the year, and the increasing fishing pressure over time can better explain the overall downward trend in fishery stocks. However, environmental variables that correlate significantly with interannual variation in ONI may impact fish abundance in short terms. Our research suggests that climate events leading to higher surface seawater salinity in winter favors pelagic fishes by improving habitat availability, and higher near-surface chlorophyll-α concentration during La Niña events provides better food condition for overwintering fish. In addition, there is no clear evidence that climatic events have a significant impact on gravity center of fish distribution, whereas climate change has caused most fishes to move to cooler coastal waters in the north.

The citrus canker pathogen Xanthomonas axonopodis has caused severe damage to citrus crops worldwide, resulting in significant economic losses for the citrus industry. To address this, a green synthesis method was used to develop silver nanoparticles with the leaf extract of Phyllanthus niruri (GS-AgNP-LEPN). This method replaces the need for toxic reagents, as the LEPN acts as a reducing and capping agent. To further enhance their effectiveness, the GS-AgNP-LEPN were encapsulated in extracellular vesicles (EVs), nanovesicles with a diameter of approximately 30–1000 nm naturally released from different sources, including plant and mammalian cells, and found in the apoplastic fluid (APF) of leaves. When compared to a regular antibiotic (ampicillin), the delivery of APF-EV-GS-AgNP-LEPN and GS-AgNP-LEPN to X. axonopodis pv. was shown to have more significant antimicrobial activity. Our analysis showed the presence of phyllanthin and nirurinetin in the LEPN and found evidence that both could be responsible for antimicrobial activity against X. axonopodis pv. Ferredoxin-NADP+ reductase (FAD-FNR) and the effector protein XopAI play a crucial role in the survival and virulence of X. axonopodis pv. Our molecular docking studies showed that nirurinetin could bind to FAD-FNR and XopAI with high binding energies (−10.32 kcal/mol and −6.13 kcal/mol, respectively) as compared to phyllanthin (−6.42 kcal/mol and −2.93 kcal/mol, respectively), which was also supported by the western blot experiment. We conclude that (a) the hybrid of APF-EV and GS-NP could be an effective treatment for citrus canker, and (b) it works via the nirurinetin-dependent inhibition of FAD-FNR and XopAI in X. axonopodis pv.

Recent years have witnessed a spurt of progress in the application of the encoding and decoding of neural activities to drug screening, diseases diagnosis, and brain–computer interactions. To overcome the constraints of the complexity of the brain and the ethical considerations of in vivo research, neural chip platforms integrating microfluidic devices and microelectrode arrays have been raised, which can not only customize growth paths for neurons in vitro but also monitor and modulate the specialized neural networks grown on chips. Therefore, this article reviews the developmental history of chip platforms integrating microfluidic devices and microelectrode arrays. First, we review the design and application of advanced microelectrode arrays and microfluidic devices. After, we introduce the fabrication process of neural chip platforms. Finally, we highlight the recent progress on this type of chip platform as a research tool in the field of brain science and neuroscience, focusing on neuropharmacology, neurological diseases, and simplified brain models. This is a detailed and comprehensive review of neural chip platforms. This work aims to fulfill the following three goals: (1) summarize the latest design patterns and fabrication schemes of such platforms, providing a reference for the development of other new platforms; (2) generalize several important applications of chip platforms in the field of neurology, which will attract the attention of scientists in the field; and (3) propose the developmental direction of neural chip platforms integrating microfluidic devices and microelectrode arrays.

Background The prevalence of anxiety and depression in pregnant women has significantly increased after the spread of COVID-19 throughout the world. We carried out this meta-analysis to reveal the information about risk factors for depression and anxiety in pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods We searched the PubMed, Embase and CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure) databases for all articles. The odds ratio (OR) corresponding to the 95% confidence interval (95% CI) was used to assess the risk factors for mental health. The statistical heterogeneity among studies was assessed with the Q-test and I2 statistics. Results We collected 17 studies including 15,050 pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our results found that factors including decrease in the perception of general support and difficulties in household finances have damage effects on anxiety, and factors including undereducated, unemployed during pregnancy, with a chronic physical illness before pregnancy, decrease in the perception of general support, difficulties in household finances, disobey the isolation rules, and smoking during pregnancy have increased risk of depression. Conclusion Our meta-analysis revealed some risk factors for mental health in pregnant women during COVID-19 pandemic. Mental health interventions in pregnant women may involve targeted methods individually.

BackgroundIn the mid-1990s, the Swedish expert team proposed saphenous vein graft (SVG) harvesting with pedicle tissue. The short-term and long-term patency rates of the great saphenous vein obtained by the no-touch (NT) were higher than those obtained by the conventional (CON). In the past, NT harvesting was mainly used in on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and vein grafts were mostly single vein grafts. In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the safety and effectiveness of sequential vein grafts using NT harvesting in off-pump CABG.MethodsFrom 2017 to 2019, a total of 505 patients were included in the study. There were 150 patients in the NT group and 355 patients in the CON group. After applying propensity score matching (1:1 matching), 148 patients were included in each group. Baseline data, graft patency, post-operative complications, leg wound complications and 1-year major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCEs) were compared between the two groups.ResultsThere was no significant difference in the patency rate of sequential venous grafts between the two groups 1 year after the operation either before [NT: 7.1% (10/141) vs. CON: 11.5% (38/331), p = 0.149) or after matching (NT: 7.1% (10/140) vs. CON: 7.3% (9/124), p = 0.971]. There was no significant difference in the composite clinical endpoint between the two groups either before [NT: 3 (2.3%) vs. CON: 9 (2.8%), p = 1.000] or after matching [NT: 3 (2.3%) vs. CON: 3 (2.5%), p = 1.000]. There were differences in leg wound complications between the two groups both before [NT: 9 (6.9%) vs. CON: 6 (1.9%), p = 0.007] and after matching [NT: 9 (6.9%) vs. CON: 2 (1.7%), p = 0.043].ConclusionsThe application of the NT harvesting in off-pump CABG with sequential vein grafts is safe and effective. NT method has disadvantages in leg wound.

Green economy is environmentally friendly economy, which is important for the sustainable economic development and environmental protection. Based on the panel data of 30 provinces and cities in China, a three-stage super-efficient SBM-DEA (slack-based model-data envelopment analysis) model is constructed to evaluate the efficiency of green economy and analyze its regional differences. The results show that, first, the random error factor and external environmental conditions significantly affect the efficiency of green economy. Second, the green economic efficiency in China from 2010 to 2019 is stable and needs to be further improved. Third, through regional comparison, it is found that the green economy efficiency in eastern China is higher than those in central and western China and the green economy efficiency in northeast China is the lowest. Finally, green economy efficiency does not simply depend on the economic development, the regional differences of green economy efficiency results from the combined effects of different geographical resources endowment, different economic development characteristics, and different environmental protection policies in different regions of China. Based on the research findings, corresponding policy suggestions are put forward to improve the efficiency of green economy.

The coordination of green economy, education development, and technological innovation is of great significance for reversing the trend of ecological environmental deterioration and promoting high-quality economic development. This study first designs the indicator system of green economy, education development, and technological innovation, then uses the entropy method to calculate the comprehensive level of green economy, education development, and technological innovation of 30 provinces and cities in China, and finally uses the coupling coordination model to measure the coordination level among them. The research shows that, first, the comprehensive level of green economy, education development, and technological innovation in 30 provinces and cities in China showed a rising trend from 2005 to 2016, but there were some regional differences in their levels. Second, the coordination level of green economy, education development, and technological innovation in different regions of China was in a rising trend from 2005 to 2016, but in 2005, they were extremely uncoordinated. Also, the coordination level of green economy, education development, and technological innovation in most regions of China grew very slowly from 2005 to 2010 but showed a rapid increase from 2011 to 2016. The coordination level of green economy, education development, and technological innovation in eastern China was visibly higher than that of the central region. The coordination level of the central region was higher than that of the northeast region, and the coordination level of the northeast region was higher than that of the western region. Finally, the limitations of this paper are summarized and proposed the direction of future research.

In this paper, the microstructure, electromagnetic shielding properties and mechanical properties of Mg-6Zn-3Sn-0.5Cu alloys are studied. As indicated from the results, the phases in the as-cast alloy comprise α-Mg, MgZnCu, Mg2Sn and Mg2Zn3 phases. After homogenization, Mg2Sn and Mg2Zn3 phases are decomposed, but the MgZnCu phase remains. During extrusion, complete dynamic recrystallization (DRX) occurs, and the spherical Mg2Sn phase precipitates dynamically. Due to considerable rod-like β′1 phases precipitate by complying with the [0001] Mg direction, the mechanical properties of aged alloys are remarkably enhanced. The peak-aged alloy achieves the tensile strength of 366 MPa, the yield strength of 358 MPa and the elongation of 7%. With the increase in the size of the β′1 phase, the mechanical properties of the over-aged alloy are reduced. Since the phases precipitate, the electrical conductivity of the alloy is enhanced, and the internal reflective interface increases, so the aged alloys exhibit improved electromagnetic shielding performance. The electromagnetic shielding efficiency of the peak-aged alloy exceeds 105 dB in the range of 30–1500 MHz, showing the best match between mechanical and electromagnetic shielding properties.

Characterization of genetic variations that are associated with gene expression levels is essential to understand cellular mechanisms that underline human complex traits. Expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) mapping attempts to identify genetic variants, such as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), that affect the expression of one or more genes. With the availability of a large volume of gene expression data, it is necessary and important to develop fast and efficient statistical and computational methods to perform eQTL mapping for such large scale data. In this paper, we proposed a new method, the low rank penalized regression method (LORSEN), for eQTL mapping. We evaluated and compared the performance of LORSEN with two existing methods for eQTL mapping using extensive simulations as well as real data from the HapMap3 project. Simulation studies showed that our method outperformed two commonly used methods for eQTL mapping, LORS and FastLORS, in many scenarios in terms of area under the curve (AUC). We illustrated the usefulness of our method by applying it to SNP variants data and gene expression levels on four chromosomes from the HapMap3 Project.

Background and Aims: Patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) are among the most challenging patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery (CABG). Several surgical risk scores are commonly used to predict the risk in patients undergoing CABG. However, these risk scores do not specifically target HFrEF patients. We aim to develop and validate a new nomogram score to predict the risk of in-hospital mortality among HFrEF patients after CABG.Methods: The study retrospectively enrolled 489 patients who had HFrEF and underwent CABG. The outcome was postoperative in-hospital death. About 70% (n = 342) of the patients were randomly constituted a training cohort and the rest (n = 147) made a validation cohort. A multivariable logistic regression model was derived from the training cohort and presented as a nomogram to predict postoperative mortality in patients with HFrEF. The model performance was assessed in terms of discrimination and calibration. Besides, we compared the model with EuroSCORE-2 in terms of discrimination and calibration.Results: Postoperative death occurred in 26 (7.6%) out of 342 patients in the training cohort, and in 10 (6.8%) out of 147 patients in the validation cohort. Eight preoperative factors were associated with postoperative death, including age, critical state, recent myocardial infarction, stroke, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤35%, LV dilatation, increased serum creatinine, and combined surgery. The nomogram achieved good discrimination with C-indexes of 0.889 (95%CI, 0.839–0.938) and 0.899 (95%CI, 0.835–0.963) in predicting the risk of mortality after CABG in the training and validation cohorts, respectively, and showed well-fitted calibration curves in the patients whose predicted mortality probabilities were below 40%. Compared with EuroSCORE-2, the nomogram had significantly higher C-indexes in the training cohort (0.889 vs. 0.762, p = 0.005) as well as the validation cohort (0.899 vs. 0.816, p = 0.039). Besides, the nomogram had better calibration and reclassification than EuroSCORE-2 both in the training and validation cohort. The EuroSCORE-2 underestimated postoperative mortality risk, especially in high-risk patients.Conclusions: The nomogram provides an optimal preoperative estimation of mortality risk after CABG in patients with HFrEF and has the potential to facilitate identifying HFrEF patients at high risk of in-hospital mortality.

ObjectivesHip involvement is an important cause of disability and poor prognosis in patients with spondyloarthritis (SpA). Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α inhibitor treatment has been demonstrated to be effective in SpA patients with hip arthritis; however, quantitative assessment using MRI in long-term follow-up needs further application and observation.MethodsA total of 239 patients were involved in this study. Methotrexate and sulfasalazine were given as basic treatment. In total, 165 patients received TNF-α inhibitors plus basic treatment, and 74 received basic treatment only, as controls. Clinical symptoms were assessed at baseline and at weeks 12, 24, and 52. MRI performances of hip arthritis, including bone marrow edema (BME) and synovitis, were quantitatively assessed using the Hip Inflammation MRI Scoring System (HIMRISS).ResultsThe clinical values of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), Harris hip score, and Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Score (ASDAS)-ESR in both groups showed significant clinical remission at week 52 (p < 0.001). However, the change in disease activity levels at week 52 in the control group was significantly worse than in the TNF-α inhibitor group. At week 52, MRI showed a significant remission trend in the TNF-α inhibitor group versus baseline, and total HIMRISS scores were significantly decreased (26.49 ± 10.37 vs. 20.59 ± 9.41, p < 0.001); the control group only had slight improvement (p < 0.05).ConclusionsTNF-α inhibitors could significantly improve clinical and MRI manifestations of hip involvement in patients with SpA. Quantitative MRI assessment combined with clinical assessment can be used to accurately evaluate the treatment effect of TNF-α in SpA patients with hip involvement to help guide targeted treatment.

Abstract Objective In total, 97 carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) were collected from 17 hospitals located in Nanjing, Southeast China, and analyzed for epidemiological characteristics. Methods Antimicrobial susceptibility was determined; followed by determination of the prevalence of resistance determinants, including extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBLs), plasmid-mediated AmpC enzyme (pAmpCs), plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance genes (PMQRs), fosfomycin resistance gene and exogenously acquired 16S rRNA methyltransferase (16S-RMTase) using PCR and DNA sequencing. The sequence types (STs) of CRE were determined by multi-locus sequence typing (MLST). The plasmid profiles were detected by PCR-based replicon typing (PBRT). Results All the CRE strains displayed high MIC50 and MIC90 for nearly all clinical available antibiotics, except for aztreonam/avibactam, minocycline, ceftazidime/avibactam, tigecycline, and colistin. KPC-2 (79.4%) and NDM (19.6%) were the main carbapenemases, CTX-M (76.3%) and SHV (60.8%) were the predominant ESBLs. In addition, oqxAB (70.1%) and qnr (63.9%) were the major PMQRs; rmtB (47.4%) was the main 16S-RMTase; fosA (76.3%) and fosA3 (37.1%) were the fosfomycin resistance gene. PBRT analysis showed presence of IncR (66.0%) and IncFII (64.9%) replicon types in the majority of the isolates, followed by IncFIB (46.4%) and IncX3 (16.5%). The IncFII and IncR replicon-types were found mainly in K. pneumoniae (68.8%), whereas the IncX3 replicons dominated in E. coli isolates (100.0%). The three dominating MLST-types ST11, ST15 and ST268 comprised 68.0% of the 77 K. pneumoniae. Seven distinct STs were identified among 8 E. coli. Conclusions The treatment for infections caused by CRE isolates is challenged by the presence of multiple resistance determinants and plasmid replicons. Our results highlighted the expansion of blaKPC-2 carrying K. pneumoniae ST11, the new emergency of single blaNDM-5 carrying K. oxytoca ST36, as well as blaIMP-4 and blaNDM-1 co-carrying E. cloacae ST418, which alert us on the urgency for antimicrobial resistant surveillance, to prevent dissemination of these highly transmissible and dangerous lineages.

ARINC653-based integrated modular avionics (IMA) architecture has been widely adopted in the design of modern civil and military aircraft. IMA imposes various requirements on the underlying operating system, of which the temporal and spatial separation requirements are essential to task allocation. In practice, finding the optimal allocation configurations of tasks to enable processing modules to satisfy various temporal constraints is one of the greatest challenges. For that purpose, hundreds of tasks must be mapped into given processing modules, which has been proven to be a nonpolynomial problem. This paper introduces a search-based approach to aid in finding effective solutions for the task allocation problem in polynomial time. Two search techniques based on both population search (genetic algorithm) and neighbor search (simulated annealing), along with their multicore versions, are presented. A heuristic is designed specifically to validate whether candidate solutions fulfill various constraints implied by IMA, and thus to evaluate the fitness. Furthermore, the multicore version is designed to reduce the time delay of obtaining a new optimized configuration. The results show that both algorithms can ultimately find optimized solutions with utility rates above 90% in all configurations and can support the optimization over 100 tasks, which is an outstanding result. The result also reveals that simulated annealing can produce a better solution under limited resources, while the genetic algorithm will determine a valid solution within a shorter time period. Moreover, simulated annealing outperforms the genetic algorithm in terms of both effectiveness and efficiency with respect to solving this allocation problem with complicated constraints.

Commercially important hairtails, Trichiurus spp., are widely distributed throughout China’s marine waters. Because eggs of these species are difficult to identify and the taxonomy of the group has recently been resolved, their spawning grounds in the northern South China Sea (SCS) are not well known. We identified three Trichiurus species (T. japonicus, T. nanhaiensis, and T. brevis) using DNA barcodes in spring and late summer–autumn ichthyoplankton surveys of 2019 in the northern SCS. Egg distributions reveal that the spawning grounds of T. japonicus and T. nanhaiensis occur mainly from the central and southern Beibu Gulf, along Hainan Island, to the waters off the Pearl River Estuary, and that egg densities are higher in spring than in late summer-autumn. Spawning of T. japonicus commonly occurs along the continental shelf, T. nanhaiensis along the continental shelf to slope (over seabed depths of 42–380 m), and T. brevis mainly in shallow water. Considering the salinity and temperature data, we found that the eggs of Trichiurus were associated with specific water masses. In spring, eggs of T. japonicus and T. nanhaiensis occurred at central and southern Beibu Gulf water mass (CSBGWM) and South China Sea surface water mass (SCSWM). While in late summer-autumn, eggs of T. japonicus and T. nanhaiensis mainly occurred in the waters of SCSWM. Our findings reveal that the occurrence of Trichiurus eggs and their spatial and temporal distribution are determined by hydrological conditions.

ObjectiveInjections of proteoglycan aggrecan (PGA) have been reported to induce axial spondyloarthritis (ax-SpA) in BALB/c mice. It is considered to be a model for radiographic ax-SpA. However, evaluation of the extent of axial disease by histopathological assessment of every intervertebral space is labor-intensive. The objective of our paper is to test the feasibility of Micro Computed Tomography (Micro-CT) in rapidly enumerating the number of intervertebral spaces affected in each mouse.MethodsArthritis was induced in BALB/c mice by intraperitoneal injections of PGA. Involvement of several spinal segments, and selected sacroiliac and hip joints were evaluated by histopathology. The involvement of all intervertebral spaces, sacroiliac and hip joints was evaluated by Micro-CT.ResultsBALB/c mice injected with PGA developed histopathology of SpA-like axial lesions, including spondylitis, sacroiliac joint arthritis and hip joint arthritis. Micro-CT allowed us to clearly enumerate the number of lesions in each mouse.ConclusionMicro-CT allows quantitative assessment of the extent of axial involvement in PGA-induced mouse spondylitis. This can be a useful tool in assessing therapeutic interventions.

The Beibu Gulf is one of the most important fishing grounds in the South China Sea (SCS), and the fisheries resources in this area are exploited by both China and Vietnam. In recent decades, some indications of overfishing have appeared, including declining catch rates, frequently changing catch composition, and shrinking body sizes in main commercial fish species. Due to limited data availability, only a small subset of exploited fish stocks in this area has been assessed. Here, we applied two length-based methods, electronic length frequency analysis (ELEFAN) and length-based Bayesian biomass estimation (LBB), to stock assessment of nine exploited fish species in the Beibu Gulf. There were total 53, 652 length records of 30 target stocks used in this study during the survey period from 1960 to 2015. The results showed that the two length-based methods presented different ability in estimating exploitation rate (E), and the estimated E ranged from 0.34 to 0.87 using ELEFAN method while ranged from 0.26 to 0.86 using LBB method. The prior information from ELEFAN method was effective for LBB method, as there were significant differences in 66.7% of the 30 target stocks in estimated Linf, and 93.3% in estimated B/BMSY, using LBB method with and without prior information. The estimated Lc/Lc_opt and B/BMSY of LBB method suggest a pressing situation for the fisheries in the Beibu Gulf, as 86.7% of the 30 target stocks had been suffering from growth overfishing (Lc/Lc_opt < 1), and 83.3% had been overexploited or fully exploited (B/BMSY ≤ 1.2). In addition, we suggest using both ELEFAN and LBB methods to fit length-frequency data of data-poor fish stocks because they are complementary in estimating management reference points. We also emphasize collaboration mechanism should be established by China and Vietnam for the sustainability and recovery of fishery resources in the Beibu Gulf.

The objective of this research is to explore the relationships among various multidimensional factor groups and the density of fishery resources of ecosystems in offshore waters and to expand the application of deep machine learning algorithm in this field. Based on XGBoost and random forest algorithms, we first conducted regulatory importance ranking analysis on the time factor, space factor, acoustic technology factor, abiotic factor, and acoustic density of offshore fishery resources in the South China Sea. Based on these analyses, data slicing is carried out for multiple factors and acoustic density, and the relationship between multidimensional factor group and the density of marine living resources in the ecosystem of offshore waters is elaborately compared and analyzed. Importance ranking shows that the concentration of active silicate at 20 m depth, water depth, moon phase perfection, and the number of pulses per unit distance (Ping) are the first-order factors with a cumulative contribution rate of 50%. The comparative analysis shows that there are some complex relationships between the multidimensional factor group and the density of marine biological resources. Within a certain range, one factor strengthens the influence of another factor. When Si20 is in the range of 0–0.1, and the moon-phase perfection is in the range of 0.3–1, both Si20 and moon-phase perfection strengthened the positive influence of water depth on the density of fishery biological resources.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Centipeda minima (L.) A. Braun et Aschers (Compositae) has been characterized by Illumina pair-end sequencing. The chloroplast genome is 152,351 bp in length, including a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) of 25,004 bp (12.1%) and a large single copy (LSC) and a small single copy (SSC) region of 83,972 bp (55.1%) and 18,371 bp (32.8%), respectively. The chloroplast genome includes 127 genes, which contain 83 protein-coding genes, 36 transfer RNA genes, and 8 ribosomal RNA genes. The nucleotide composition is asymmetric (31.1% A, 18.5% C, 19.0% G, 31.4% T). The overall GC content of C. minima chloroplast genome is 37.5%. Phylogenetic analysis illustrates that C. minima is closely related to other Asteraceae species, including Helianthus annuus subsp. texanus, Tithonia diversifolia and Xanthium sibiricum with a strong bootstrap value of 100.

Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a kind of large-vessel vasculitis that mainly affects the aorta and its branches, and the patients are usually women at a relatively young age. The chronic inflammation of arteries in TA patients leads to stenosis, occlusion, dilatation, or aneurysm formation. Patients with TA thereby have a high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) complications, which are the most common cause of mortality. This review summarizes the main cardiovascular complications and the risk factors of cardiovascular complications in patients with TA. Here, we discuss the benefits and potential risks of physical exercise in patients with TA and give recommendations about exercise prescription for TA patients to decrease the risks of CVD and facilitate rehabilitation of cardiovascular complications, which might maximally improve the outcomes.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is most common in adolescents and the ultimate result is disability, which places a huge burden on patients and society. Therefore, the key to improve the prognosis of AS is the early diagnosis of hip injury. To examine if AS patients whose hip pain is either absent or minimal might already have observable MRI and X-ray hip changes. Clinical and imaging hip data were systematically analyzed in 200 healthy controls (HC) and 300 AS with varying degrees of hip pain. Forty-four patients with early hip osteoarthritis (OA) served as positive imaging controls. In MRI images, BME lesions in the STIR sequence were much more frequent in AS (62%) compared to HC (2%) (p < 0.0001). Most importantly, 42% of AS with no or minimal hip pain had one or more MRI lesions. This was much more frequent compared to the 2% in HC (p < 0.05). These lesions in AS were observed singly or in combination in the trochanters (8%), femoral heads (12%), and acetabula (13%). Parallel finding that X-ray changes were present in patients with minimal or no hip pain was also observed with X-ray. Based on the normal hip width of HC, joint space narrowing was observed in 94.3% of the entire AS cohort, and importantly 56.7% of AS patients with no or mild hip pain. In these latter patients, functional activities of the hips such as walking were normal. At least 40% of AS patients with minimal or no hip pain might already show MRI and X-ray changes.

Background: The great saphenous vein (GSV) is the most commonly used conduit for coronary arterial bypass graft. However, the status of the GSV, including metabolic dysfunction such as diabetes mellitus (DM) complication, is strongly associated with vein graft failure (VGF). To date, the molecular mechanism underlying VGF remains elusive. Detailed characterization of the cellular components and corresponding expression regulation in GSVs would be of great importance for clinical decision making to reduce VGF. Methods: To this end, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing to delineate cellular heterogeneity in three human GSV samples. Results: Scrutinization of cellular composition and expression revealed cell diversity in human GSVs, particularly endothelial cells (ECs). Our results unraveled that functional adaptation drove great expression differences between venous ECs and valvular ECs. For instance, cell surface receptor ACKR1 demarcated venous Ecs, whereas ACRK3/ACKR4 were exclusively expressed by valvular ECs. Differential gene expression analysis suggested that genes highly expressed in venous ECs were mainly involved in vasculature development and regulation of leukocyte adhesion, whereas valvular ECs have more pronounced expression of genes participating in extracellular matrix organization, ossification and platelet degranulation. Of note, pseudo-time trajectory analysis provided in silico evidence indicating that venous ECs, valvular ECs and lymphatic vessels were developmentally connected. Further, valvular ECs might be an importance source for lymphatic vessel differentiation in adults. Additionally, we found a venous EC subset highly expressing IL6, which might be associated with undesirable prognosis. Meanwhile, we identified a population of ANGPTL7+ fibroblasts (FBs), which may be profibrotic and involved in insulin resistance in human GSVs. Additionally, our data suggest that immune cells only accounted for a small fraction, most of which were macrophages. By assessing the intertwined remodeling in metabolic dysfunction that potentially increases the gene expression regulatory network in mural cells and leukocytes, we found that transcription factor KLF9 likely operated a proinflammatory program, inducing the transcription of metallothionein proteins in two mural cell subsets and proinflammatory immune cells. Lastly, cellular communication analysis revealed that proinflammatory signaling, including TRAIL, PVR, CSF and GDF, were uniquely activated in patients with metabolic dysfunction. Conclusions: Our results identified critical cell-specific responses and cellular interactions in GSVs. Beyond serving as a repertoire, this work illustrates multifactorial likelihood of VGF.

Accurate information on the temporal and spatial distribution of fish stocks is necessary for informed management and conservation of fisheries resources. We report on the temporal and spatial variation in biomass and density of a hitherto little-studied species of commercial importance, the threadfin porgy Evynnis cardinalis, it was listed as endangered (EN) in a recent International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) red list, on the northern South China Sea continental shelf, using data collected during fisheries surveys from 2014 to 2015. Seasonal variation in the frequency of occurrence of E. cardinalis in trawl samples on this shelf was highest during summer (68.57%) and lowest during winter (31.43%). Average biomass was highest in autumn (33.05 kg·km−2) and density was highest in spring (936 ind·km−2). The highest annual average biomass (41.6 kg·km−2) and density (1021 ind·km−2) occurred off Shantou, and the lowest occurred off Zhanjiang (7.2 kg·km−2 and 165 ind·km−2, respectively); seasonal patterns in density are more similar in waters off Yangjiang and Shantou than elsewhere. The highest annual average biomass occurred at 40 m depth (56.9 kg·km−2), and the highest annual average density (1084 ind·km−2) occurred at 30 m depth. Density of E. cardinalis varied with depth, with lower densities occurring in shallow and deeper waters, and higher densities at intermediate depths.

The accurate prediction of the model is essential for food and herb analysis. In order to exploit the abundance of information embedded in the frequency and time domains, a weighted multiscale support vector regression (SVR) method based on variational mode decomposition (VMD), namely VMD-WMSVR, was proposed for the ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectral determination of rapeseed oil adulterants and near-infrared (NIR) spectral quantification of rhizoma alpiniae offcinarum adulterants. In this method, each spectrum is decomposed into K discrete mode components by VMD first. The mode matrix Uk is recombined from the decomposed components, and then, the SVR is used to build sub-models between each Uk and target value. The final prediction is obtained by integrating the predictions of the sub-models by weighted average. The performance of the proposed method was tested with two spectral datasets of adulterated vegetable oils and herbs. Compared with the results from partial least squares (PLS) and SVR, VMD-WMSVR shows potential in model accuracy.

Both the cellular- and population-level properties of involved neurons are essential for unveiling the learning and memory functions of the brain. To give equal attention to these two aspects, neural sensors based on microelectrode arrays (MEAs) have been in the limelight due to their noninvasive detection and regulation capabilities. Here, we fabricated a neural sensor using carboxylated graphene/3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene:polystyrenesulfonate (cGO/PEDOT:PSS), which is effective in sensing and monitoring neuronal electrophysiological activity in vitro for a long time. The cGO/PEDOT:PSS-modified microelectrodes exhibited a lower electrochemical impedance (7.26 ± 0.29 kΩ), higher charge storage capacity (7.53 ± 0.34 mC/cm2), and improved charge injection (3.11 ± 0.25 mC/cm2). In addition, their performance was maintained after 2 to 4 weeks of long-term cell culture and 50,000 stimulation pulses. During neural network training, the sensors were able to induce learning function in hippocampal neurons through precise electrical stimulation and simultaneously detect changes in neural activity at multiple levels. At the cellular level, not only were three kinds of transient responses to electrical stimulation sensed, but electrical stimulation was also found to affect inhibitory neurons more than excitatory neurons. As for the population level, changes in connectivity and firing synchrony were identified. The cGO/PEDOT:PSS-based neural sensor offers an excellent tool in brain function development and neurological disease treatment.

The South China Sea (SCS) is one of the world’s main centers for coral reef diversity, with more than one-third of all reef fish species being found in this area. Some indications of overfishing have appeared in typical coral reefs of the SCS, as fish diversities have declined and the average body lengths of dominant fish species have decreased. However, only few assessments of coral reef fish stocks have been conducted, due to insufficient available data. In this study, we applied a newly developed length-based Bayesian biomass (LBB) estimation method to assess 10 dominant coral reef fish species from three main reefs (Yongshu Reef, Zhubi Reef, and Meiji Reef) of the Nansha Islands, SCS. Simulations indicated the estimated parameters were not sensitive to sample sizes (more than 100) using the LBB method. Our results showed that the relative biomass levels (B/BMSY) of Cephalopholis spiloparaea, Cephalopholis urodeta, Lutjanus gibbus, Gnathodentex aureolineatus, Pentapodus caninus, and Cheilinus fasciatus were between 0.16 and 0.45, suggesting an overfishing status; the relative biomass levels of Epinephelus merra, and Parupeneus crassilabris were 0.98 and 1.1, respectively, indicating that they were fully exploited; and the relative biomass levels of Lutjanus kasmira and Melichthys vidua were 1.3 and 2.5, respectively, indicating the populations were in good conditions. The estimates of Lc/Lc_opt were less than one for seven stocks, suggesting that the stocks were suffering from growth overfishing. Therefore, we emphasize the need to reduce fishing mortality and increase the mesh size of the coral reef fishery in the Nansha Islands, to achieve a sustainable yield and biomass.

Megastable chaotic systems are somehow the newest in the family of special chaotic systems. In this paper, a new megastable two-dimensional system is proposed. In this system, coexisting attractors are in some islands, interestingly covered by megalimit cycles. The introduced two-dimensional system has no defined equilibrium point. However, it seems that the origin plays the role of an unstable equilibrium point. Therefore, the attractors are determined as hidden attractors. Adding a forcing term to the system, we can obtain chaotic solutions and coexisting strange attractors. Moreover, the effect of three different values of the forcing term’s amplitude is studied. The dynamical properties of the designed system are investigated using attractor plots, bifurcation diagrams, and Lyapunov Exponents diagram. Phase portraits of the novel megastable oscillator are presented by FPGA design. Xilinx system generator block diagrams of the proposed system and trigonometric functions are also presented.

Cutter performance evaluation is important for shield TBM during the design and refurbishment stage. To face the challenges of choosing the proper cutters for tunneling in complex condition, according to the concept of parameter profile analysis, a systematic evaluation method was proposed. In this novel method, by comparing with their expected best value and the corresponding unacceptable limit, all of the selected performance parameters can be synthesized to assess the proximity of the overall merit of each cutter with respect to all the performances considered under all possible geological conditions. Performance indexes including cutting efficiency, structural strength, wear life, and dynamic response were individually analyzed based on linear cutting tests, finite element analyses, and theoretical calculations. Finally, a case study was carried out to demonstrate how the method is applied to find the optimal cutter among a small-scale disc cutter and two scrapers used for cutting multiple soft rock. In this case, three types of concrete specimens with distinct mechanical properties were carefully prepared to substitute for soft rock. The evaluation results show that the method has an intrinsic applicability in helping to make a reasonable trade-off between cost and cutting performance during the cutter selection process.

As an essential component in shale, OM (organic matter) grains and their arrangements may play essential roles in affecting the anisotropy of the reservoir. However, OM grains are commonly treated as an evenly distributed isotropic medium in current studies, and few works have been done to investigate their detailed arrangement characteristics. In this study, terrestrial and marine shale samples were collected from three different shale plays in China, and the arrangement characteristics of OM grains in each sample were investigated by SEM (scanning electron microscope) image analysis. The results indicate that OM grains in shale are not evenly distributed in isotropic medium, and their directional alignment is pervasive in both marine and terrestrial shale. OM grains in shale tend to subparallel to the bedding section, and their orientation degree and controlling factors differ among different shales. OM grains in samples from terrestrial C-7(Chang-7 Formation) exhibit the strongest directionality in their arrangement, and OM grains in samples from marine LMX (Longmaxi Formation) shale in the Fuling area also exhibit strong directional alignment. While in samples from marine LMX shale in the Baojing area, their directional alignment is much weaker. Shales with high clay content, high TOC (total organic carbon), low thermal maturity, and flat reservoir structure get more OM grains parallel to the bedding section. The biogenetic texture of graptolite in marine LMX shale is the dominating factor leading to the strong directional alignment of the OM grains. However, syncline structure may disorganize the preformed directional alignment and weaken the directionality of the OM grains, which results in the OM arrangement difference between LMX samples from Fuling and Baojing. While the compaction of the layered clay particles is the dominating mechanism leading to the strong directional alignment of the OM grains in terrestrial shale samples from C-7.

Tubeimoside I (TBMS1), also referred to as tubeimoside A, is a natural compound extracted from the plant Tu Bei Mu (Bolbostemma paniculatum), which is a traditional Chinese herb used to treat multiple diseases for more than 1,000 years. Studies in recent years reported its anti-tumor activity in several cancers. However, whether it is effective in melanoma remains unknown. In the current study, we discovered that TBMS1 treatment inhibited melanoma cell proliferation in vitro and tumorigenecity in vivo. Besides, we also observed that TBMS1 treatment induced a partly disrupted autophagy, which still remained a protective role, disruption of which by chloroquine (CQ) or 3-methyladenine (3-MA) enhanced TBMS1-induced cell proliferation inhibition. CQ combined with TBMS1 even induced cellular apoptosis. BRAF(V600E) mutation and its continuously activated downstream MEK1/2-ERK1/2 cascade are found in 50% of melanomas and are important for malanomagenesis. However, hyperactivating MEK1/2-ERK1/2 cascade can also inhibit tumor growth. Intriguingly, we observed that TBMS1 rapidly hyperactivated MEK1/2-ERK1/2, inhibition of which by its inhibitor SL-327 rescued the anti-cancerous effects of TBMS1. Besides, the targets of TBMS1 were predicted by the ZINC Database based on its structure. It is revealed that protein-tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) might be one of the targets of TBMS1. Inhibition of PTP1B by its selective inhibitor TCS401 or shRNA rescued the anti-cancerous effects of TBMS1 in melanoma cells. These results indicated that TBMS1 might activate PTP1B, which further hyperactivates MEK1/2-ERK1/2 cascade, thereby inhibiting cell proliferation in melanoma. Our results provided the potentiality of TBMS1 as a drug candidate for melanoma therapy and confirmed that rapidly hyperactivating an oncogenic signaling pathway may also be a promising strategy for cancer treatment.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common autoimmune disease in which T helper-type 17 (Th17) cells have been critically involved. CD147 is a T cell activation-associated molecule and is involved in T cell development. However, it remains unclear whether CD147 participates in Th17 responses in RA patients. In this study, we demonstrated that in both the RA and healthy controls (HC) groups, CD147 expression on CD4+ T cells was increased in CCR6+ and CD161+ subsets, and was associated with IL-17 production. Ligation of CD147 with its monoclonal antibody (mAb) strongly inhibited Th17 responses, and knock down of CD147 expression on CD4+ Tm cells specifically enhanced Th17 responses, triggered by coculture with in vitro activated monocytes from HC. Further functional studies showed that anti-CD147 mAb decreased the activation of AKT, mTORC1 and STAT3 signaling, which is known to enhance Th17 responses. Ligation of CD147 with its mAb on CD4+ Tm cells specifically reduced Th17 responses induced by in vitro or in vivo activated monocytes from RA patients. In collagen-induced arthritis model, anti-CD147 mAb treatment reduced the Th17 levels and severity of arthritis in vivo. These data suggest that CD147 plays a negative role in regulating human Th17 responses. Anti-CD147 mAb can limit the extraordinary proliferation of Th17 cells and may be a new therapeutic option in RA.

Numerous factors have an impact on the temporal correction of integrated modular avionics application. As early as in the design phase, verification should be conducted to guarantee the rigorous temporal requirements for safety consideration which are fulfilled. This paper proposes a model for underlining verification in the design phase. The model captures the temporally related design in an industrial standard for software application and operation system (ARINC653). The finite-state machine mechanism is employed to formulate the behavior model of the application and application execution interface. Furthermore, temporal requirements are measured under the simulation of the state machine model. A case study is conducted on a real-world auto-pilot application that conformed with ARINC653.
