Abstract

Background: Gender-based violence (GBV) is one of the most prevalent forms of human rights violations in the world. Across the globe, women and girls-especially adolescents-face the greatest risk. Age-stratified GBV data on adolescents is lacking in India. Approximately 1 in 3 women worldwide may experience physical or sexual violence in her lifetime. In this background the present study was conducted to find out prevalence of GBV among college going adolescents in urban area of Tirupati.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among college going adolescents aged 16-19 years in four government colleges in urban area of Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh from November 2021 to December 2021. Details on socio demographic characteristics and history related to GBV were collected by personal interview using a pretested, semi-structured questionnaire. Descriptive data was summarized in percentages and Chi-square test was used to test the association.Results: A total of 263 students participated in the study with mean age of 18.15±1.01 years, majority being females (54%). About 36.5% faced at least one form of GBV so far. The most common form of violence faced by study subjects was physical (28.1%) followed by psychological violence (17.5%). Physical, sexual and psychological violence was found to be 17.8%, 1.9%, 11.0% in females and 10.3%, 0.7%, 6.5% among males respectively.Conclusion: The present study shows that both male and female are victims of GBV but little higher prevalence was found in females.

Abstract

Herein, we have inquired the structural, electronic and thermoelectric properties of the couple of chalcopyrite structured solids LiAlX2 (X=S and Se) with the help of density functional theory (DFT), which is tracked by resolution of the Boltzmann transport equation with the constant relaxation time calculations. The LDA (Localized Density Approximation), PBE (Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof), PBEsol (PBE functional revised for solids) and WC (Wu-Cohen) exchange correlation potentials have been used. The calculated lattice constants a = 5.271 Å; c = 10.178 Å and a = 6.226 Å; c = 12.165 Å for LiAlS2 and LiAlSe2 respectively and the band gap of the mentioned compounds are found in range from 1.74 eV to 3.13 eV. The dependency of thermoelectric parameters are calculated with different temperature (300-800K) and carrier concentration 1018 1019 cm-3. From the study of ZT (figure of merit's ZT= S²σT/κ the dimensionless parameter) and it is found that it's value for both the compounds in n-type as well as in p-type region is 'unity'. Since these compounds can be the promising candidate for thermoelectric devices also these compounds are non-toxic, eco-friendly and good alternative for the green and renewable source of electric power generators. Abstract

Ficus auriculata belongs to the family of dicotyledonous plant. The general phytochemical screening for Ethanol, Hexane, Chloroform and Water extracts are done. Since ethanol shows the presence of maximum compounds, it is subjected to the isolation of phenolic compounds by TLC and Column Chromatography. On repeating this process, a white crystalline solid results, whichon the basis of UV-Vis, FT-IR, GC-MS, 1H NMR, confirms that the isolated compound is 2,4 Ditertiary Butyl Phenol (2,4 DTBP). The isolated compound is further studied for its solventeffect and subjected to anti-microbial and Cytotoxicity studies with AGS cancer cell line and HIEC-6 (Human Normal Intestinal Epithelial cell line). Docking studies is carried out using PatchDock server, with 2,4 DTBP as guest and Occludin, which is a Tight Junction Protein (TJP) as host. The resulted structure is further subjected to Lipinski Rule of five. The present studyconcludes that 2,4 DTBP shows intermediate resistance against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria like S. aureus, E. coli, Klebsiela pneumonia, strongly resistant to fungi Candida sps. According to cytotoxic and In silico studies, the isolated compound has excellent anticancer properties and is thus used in the treatment of gastric cancer. Abstract

Background Early initiation of breastfeeding (EIBF) is one of the most important predictors for the survival of a child, spacing between two children, and prevention from childhood infections. Breastfeeding plays an important role in reducing child mortality and morbidity but the practice of EIBF globally is way behind the required time for initiation of breastfeeding after delivery. So, we planned to evaluate the early time of initiation of breastfeeding among the postnatal mothers and to determine the predictors of early initiation of breastfeeding in a tertiary hospital setting. Methodology A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted in the postnatal ward of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, Jharkhand for a period of three months (March-May 2017). Our study included 200 postnatal mothers who delivered normal and healthy babies. Mother-infant dyads enrolled in our study were interviewed personally during six hours of the postpartum period. Irrespective of the mode of delivery, all babies born during the study period whose mothers consented to be a part of the study were included. Data collected were entered in MS Excel and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 20.0. Armonk, NY: IBM Corp. Results A total of 200 postnatal mothers fulfilling the study criteria were enrolled during the study. Of them, the majority 98 (49%) belonged to the age group 18-25 years. A hundred and twenty-six (63%) of them resided in rural areas, 182 (91%) were housewives, and only 86 (43%) of them had completed secondary education & above. Early initiation of breastfeeding was found to be only 43 (21.5%) among postnatal mothers. Predictors found to be statistically significant with EIBF were mother's residential status [odds ratio (OR): 2.98; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.25-7.13], educational status of mother (OR: 3.18; 95% CI: 1.12-9.01) mode of delivery of the baby (OR: 8.93; 95% CI: 2.66-30.06) and ante-natal care (ANC) visits (OR: 0.441; 95% CI: 0.311-0.651). Women's age, religion, ethnicity, occupation, type of family, and socioeconomic status displayed no statistically significant relationship with EIBF. Conclusions It is concluded that nearly one-fifth of mothers in the study initiated breastfeeding within one hour of post-delivery. Maternal education, frequent ANC visits, place of residence, and mode of delivery were also associated with EIBF in India. Nursing staff, as well as clinicians, should reinforce the importance of early initiation of breastfeeding by providing proper health education to post-natal beneficiaries.

Abstract

Gout is a metabolic disorder that leads to elevated serum uric acid levels and deposition of urate crystals in the joints. The disease is usually confined to the joint space and leads to pain and limitation of jaw opening. The case describes a 45-year-old female patient with a chief complaint of ‘occasional pain in the left temporal muscle region’. The case disclosed a gout manifestation in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) after physical and radiographic findings. Gout manifestation in the TMJ is an unusual presentation and a few reports in the English literature address the subject. Gout in the TMJ should be included as a differential diagnosis for joint disorders because of its rarity. A clinician may overlook gout involving the TMJ in the differential diagnosis of facial pain even when the patient has received a diagnosis of gout in other joints.

Item does not contain fulltext, In the sphere of liver tissue engineering (LTE), 3D bioprinting has emerged as an effective technology to mimic the complex in vivo hepatic microenvironment, enabling the development of functional 3D constructs with potential application in the healthcare and diagnostic sector. This review gears off with a note on the liver's microscopic 3D architecture and pathologies linked to liver injury. The write-up is then directed towards unmasking recent advancements and prospects of bioprinting for recapitulating 3D hepatic structure and function. The article further introduces available stem cell opportunities and different strategies for their directed differentiation towards various hepatic stem cell types, including hepatocytes, hepatic sinusoidal endothelial cells, stellate cells, and Kupffer cells. Another thrust of the article is on understanding the dynamic interplay of different hepatic cells with various microenvironmental cues, which is crucial for controlling differentiation, maturation, and maintenance of functional hepatic cell phenotype. On a concluding note, various critical issues and future research direction towards clinical translation of bioprinted hepatic constructs are discussed.

Abstract

Dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) are an attractive third-generation photovoltaic technology particularly promising for operation under diffuse and lower light conditions. However, high costs of the precious metals used for sensitizing dyes and low charge generation capability parameters limit the utility of DSSCs in comparison to conventional silicon solar cells. In this study, tin oxide (SnO2) photoelectrodes are treated with non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasmas to enhance photovoltaic performance. The effects of nitrogen and argon plasma surface treatment of photoanodes on the efficiency enhancement of DSSCs are systematically investigated by fabricating solar cells using pristine SnO2 and plasma-treated photoanodes. Solar cells made with Eosin Y sensitized pristine SnO2 photoanode exhibited a short circuit current density (JSC) of 1.03 mA cm−2 and an overall power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 0.30% whereas solar cells made with nitrogen plasma treated photoanode exhibited a JSC of 6.20 mA cm−2 and an overall PCE of 1.53% (4 times enhancement) under the same illumination of 100 mW cm−2 (AM 1.5). The efficiency of the solar cells fabricated with Ar plasma treated SnO2 photoanodes also showed an enhanced power conversion efficiency. Further characterizations revealed that the surface plasma treatments increased the surface roughness of the photoanodes. Plasma treatment led to the incorporation of nitrogen species and removal of surface impurities resulting in an increase in dye adsorption in the photoanode and hence the enhancement in the efficiency of the DSSC.
