111. Observation of giant non-reciprocal charge transport from quantum Hall states in a topological insulator

Abstract

Symmetry breaking in quantum materials is of great importance and can lead to non-reciprocal charge transport. Topological insulators provide a unique platform to study non-reciprocal charge transport due to their surface states, especially quantum Hall states under an external magnetic field. Here we report the observation of non-reciprocal charge transport mediated by quantum Hall states in devices composed of the intrinsic topological insulator Sn–Bi1.1Sb0.9Te2S, which is attributed to asymmetric scattering between quantum Hall states and Dirac surface states. A giant non-reciprocal coefficient of up to 2.26 × 105A−1is found. Our work not only reveals the properties of non-reciprocal charge transport of quantum Hall states in topological insulators but also paves the way for future electronic devices.

Abstract

In this study, a composite modifier for wood impregnation is prepared, which is functional and environmentally friendly. The surface of silica sol was modified by using KH-560. The modified silica sol, melamine, and glyoxal were used as raw materials. The silica sol/melamine glyoxal resin (from now on referred to as Silica sol/MG) composite modifier was prepared based on in-situ polymerization. The physicochemical properties (viscosity, solid content and etc.) of the composite modifier were evaluated. The structural and thermal properties were characterized and analyzed by FTIR spectroscopy, particle size distribution, TG and DSC. The results showed that the viscosity and solid content of the composite modifier decreased with the increase in the mass of the silica sol. The FTIR spectroscopy showed peaks at 473 cm−1 and 1101 cm−1, which were assigned to bending and stretching vibrations of the Si-O-Si bond, respectively, indicating that the modified silica sol was successfully introduced into the MG resin. When the modified silica sol mass fraction was 30%-40%, the particle size distribution of the composite modifier was relatively uniform. TG analysis found that the thermal stability of the composite modifier was significantly improved compared with the unmodified resin. DSC analysis showed that adding the modified silica sol reduced the curing temperature of the modifier from 115.5 °C to 107.9 °C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Symmetry breaking in quantum materials is of great importance and leads to novel nonreciprocal charge transport. The topological insulator system provides a unique platform to study nonreciprocal charge transport due to the exotic surface state. But it is typically small in magnitude because the contributions from the top and bottom surface of topological insulator are usually opposite. Here, we report the observation of giant nonreciprocal charge transport mediated by the quantum Hall state in intrinsic topological insulator Sn-Bi1.1Sb0.9Te2S devices, which is attributed to the coexistence of quantum Hall states and Dirac surface states. A giant nonreciprocal coefficient of up to 2.26*10^5 A^-1 is found, because only a single surface of topological insulator contributes to the nonreciprocal charge transport. Our work not only reveals the intrinsic properties of nonreciprocal charge transport in topological insulators, but also paves the way for future electronic devices.

Abstract

The present study investigates the influence of micron‐sized diatomite dosage on the physical, mechanical, rheological, and creep properties of poplar wood/polypropylene (PW/PP) composites to enhance their toughness and practicality. The diatomite‐PW/PP composites were prepared using the melt extrusion method, replacing different proportions of PW with diatomite, and subsequently evaluated for their properties. The results indicate that adding diatomite enhances the density while reducing the brightness and water absorption of the composites. Scanning electron microscopy, analysis reveals a uniform distribution of diatomite in the range of 5–10 wt%, which effectively serves as a filler and reinforcing agent, consequently improving the toughness of the composite system. Specifically, the impact strength, tensile strength, and elongation at break are enhanced by 25.9%, 9.5%, and 35.7%, respectively. Abstract

At 22:55 on June 17, 2019, an earthquake of magnitude 6.0 occurred in Shuanghe Town, Changning County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province. In Shaanxi Province, the obvious earthquake sense appeared in some places which are 600 km to 800 km away from the epicenter. Based on the collection, collation and analysis of the data about Weihe Basin, Hanzhong Basin and Ankang Basin in Shaanxi Province, and the analysis of representative seismic network records and seismic wave propagation distance in each basin, the mechanism of the long-period disaster induced by the Changning Ms6.0 earthquake in Shaanxi Province is revealed. This study has a positive significance for the seismic fortification of long-period structures in this area, the scientific popularization of long-term ground motion effect, and the avoidance of earthquake panic.
