Abstract

This paper aims to study the effect of adding Ti element on the structure,phase,microhardness and wear resistance of AlCoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy coatings.The AlCoCrFeNi and AlCoCrFeNiTi0.5 high-entropy alloy coatings were prepared by laser cladding technology on the surface of pure iron,and the phase composition,microstructure,microhardness,wear resistance and wear morphology of the coatings were analyzed using scanning electron microscope,X-ray diffraction,microhardness tester and friction and wear testing machine.Results showed that the phase composition of AlCoCrFeNiTi0.5 high-entropy alloy coating included Co3Ti,AlFe solid solution phase and Al80Cr13Co7 complex phase,presenting a typical network-like spinodal decomposition structure with uniform composition,which was better than the structure of AlCoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy coating.Meanwhile,the average microhardness of the AlCoCrFeNiTi0.5 high-entropy alloy coating reached 989 HV4.9 N,which was 32% higher than that of AlCoCrFeNi coating,and the wear extent declined by 85%.

144. Unlocking the potential of milk whey protein components in colorectal cancer prevention and therapy.

Abstract

Extensive research from large prospective cohort studies and meta-analytical investigations over recent decades have consistently indicated that dairy foods have protective effects, reducing the risk of colorectal cancer. Most of the literature has explored the potential role of milk minerals and vitamins in managing colorectal cancer. Yet, there is a paucity of a comprehensive summary of the anticancer attributes of milk protein components and their underlying mechanisms of action. Recent advancements have spotlighted the potential of whey proteins, including β-lactoglobulin, α-lactalbumin, serum albumin, and lactoferrin, as promising candidates for both the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer. Notably, whey proteins have demonstrated a more pronounced capacity for suppressing carcinogen-induced tumors when compared to casein. Their strong binding affinity enables them to serve as effective carriers for small molecules or drugs targeting colon cancer therapy. Furthermore, numerous studies have underscored the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant prowess of whey proteins in cancer prevention. Additionally, whey proteins have been shown to trigger apoptosis, hinder tumor cell proliferation, and impede metastasis. This comprehensive review, therefore, not only substantiates the significance of incorporating whey protein components into a balanced daily diet but also underscores their potential in safeguarding against the onset and progression of colorectal cancer. HIGHLIGHTS: Dairy products have consistently had protective effects in reducing the risk of colorectal cancer. Whey proteins have shown promise as candidates for the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer. 145. Fire-Retardant Composite Foam with Antioxidant Addition for Prevention and Control of Coal Spontaneous.

Abstract

Given the shortcomings of existing fire-extinguishing materials, a new type of fire-retarding foam material with composite foaming agents and antioxidants as raw materials was developed. The formula of the composite foaming agent was determined by screening and compounding surfactants. Then, the inhibition characteristics of different antioxidants were tested using a cone calorimeter to determine the best antioxidant. Next, the inhibition characteristics and fire-extinguishing and cooling characteristics of fire-retarding foam were measured by a temperature programmed apparatus and a fire-extinguishing test bench. Results show that the prepared fire-retarding foam achieves the best performance when the mass ratio of the surfactants CAB-35 and MES is 2:3, the mass concentration is 0.4%, and the mass concentration of the tea polyphenols is 1%. In the aspect of low-temperature inhibition, the cross-point temperature of the fire-retarding foam increases from 119.4°C of raw coal to 142.7°C, which is 15.4°C and 6.5°C higher than that of ordinary foam and MgCl2 solution, respectively. At 180°C, the CO concentration is only 1613 ppm, which is about 67.3% of that of raw coal, 78.3% of that of coal treated with ordinary foam, and 85.8% of that of coal treated with MgCl2 solution. The fire-extinguishing times of common foam, MgCl2 solution, and fire-retarding foam are 1780 s, 1350 s, and 820 s, respectively, indicating that fire-retarding foam has the highest fire-extinguishing efficiency. Abstract

The primary requirement for vibration-based structural damage identification is to develop the damage index with higher damage sensitivity. Although it is believed that higher order mode means more sensitivity to damage, what is the quantitative relationship between damage sensitivity of different orders and how to carry out multi-mode fusion lack theoretical guidance. This paper implements the comparison study of the location-related damage sensitivity for different mode shape curvatures and then proposes a structural damage index with sensitivity enhancement for beam structure. First, the damage sensitivity of the mode shape curvature of beam structures at different orders is compared in theory. It reveals that the damage sensitivity is location-dependent, and the second-order mode in the even 16.6% region is more sensitive than the third-order mode in the simply supported beam. Second, a structural damage index with sensitivity enhancement for beam structure is proposed according to the relationship between the damage sensitivity of mode shape curvature at different orders and locations. Third, a simply supported beam model and a steel stringer bridge model with multiple main girders are both investigated to illustrate the comparison results of the damage sensitivity at different orders and the advantages of the proposed structural damage index. It shows that the confused damage sensitivities are very common between different mode orders, the sensitivity-enhanced damage index that considers the damage location always shows certain degree of improvement of damage indication ability in different damage areas. Abstract

The characteristics of low damping and closely spaced natural frequencies make stay cables susceptible to wind-induced vibrations. This work proposed a novel damping device consisting of tuned mass damper (TMD) and rigid cross-tie (RCT) to mitigate the vibration of stay cables effectively. Two adjacent stay cables interconnected with RCTs can provide installation locations for TMDs, thus making the novel TMD-RCT control system feasible. Experimental control tests were carried out on a two-cable model of adjacent stay cables built in laboratory, where one TMD was designed based on the fundamental vibration mode of the stay cable. The effects of CT stiffness, number of RCTs, mass ratio, and installation position on the vibration reduction effect of the device were studied. To validate the efficacy of the proposed TMD-RCT device in vibration mitigation of stay cables under different loading cases, simulation tests and corresponding control performance evaluation were conducted. Abstract

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been shown to play important roles in tumour development and tumour immunology. However, genome‐wide characterisation of circRNAs and their roles in the immunology and immunotherapy of gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) has been lacking. We present a comprehensive characterisation of the circRNA landscape in GBC, revealing GBC‐specific circRNAs. Our analysis found that circRNAs are significantly enriched in cell proliferation and are involved in cancer‐related hallmarks. In particular, circAATF was upregulated in GBC, which was positively correlated with AATF mRNA expression, and promoted GBC cell growth. Through integrating computational and experimental approaches, we revealed that circAATF is positively associated with the CD4+ T cell abundance and PD‐L1 level, and enhances the clinical benefits of anti‐PD‐L1 immunotherapy for GBC. We further demonstrate that circAATF elevates the PD‐L1 level by activating phosphorylated AKT and acting as a sponge for miR‐142‐5p. CircAATF is positively associated with CD4+ T cells and PD‐L1 levels and shows potential to aid anti‐PD‐L1 immunotherapy for GBC. Our study provides insights into roles of circAATF in the tumour development and immunology of GBC and accelerates the development of therapeutic strategies for GBC immunotherapy. Abstract

While the addition of WC increases the hardness and wear resistance of coatings, an excessive WC content can also induce crack initiation and propagation, increasing brittleness and leading to premature failure. Therefore, in this study, WC particles were incorporated into nickel-based coatings by plasma-arc surfacing to optimize their content and distribution, balancing their tensile properties and wear resistance. The coatings were comprehensively evaluated through microstructural analysis, hardness testing, wear resistance assessment, and tensile testing. The results show that as the mass fraction of WC increased from 45% to 65%, the increase in carbon significantly promoted the formation of M7C3, M6C, and M23C6 carbides and suppressed the formation of the γ-phase. The microstructural analysis showed that the content of massive carbides increased significantly with the increasing WC content, and the XPS analysis further confirmed that the changes in the WC and Cr7C3 phases were particularly pronounced in the high-WC coating. The 65% WC coating showed higher hardness (a 232 increase in HV1.0), a lower and more stable coefficient of friction (0.42), and better wear resistance than the 45% WC coating, with a wear rate of 3.329 × 10−6 mm3/(N·m)−1, which was 3.709 × 10−6 mm3/(N·m)−1 lower than that of the 45% WC coating. The conventional tensile test results show that the maximum stress and strain of the 45% WC coating were 71% and 36% higher than those of the 65% WC coating, respectively. In addition, the 45% WC coating exhibited better ductility and quasi-cleavage characteristics, whereas the 65% WC coating showed typical brittle cracking behavior. The results of the field tensile tests also showed that the fracture time of the 65% WC coating was 27 s shorter than that of the 45% WC coating.
