Soil microbes mediate soil organic carbon (SOC) storage by affecting microbial residue carbon (C) in terrestrial ecosystems, a main source of SOC. However, how microbial residue C accumulation changes during the conversion of subtropical primary forest to plantations and the role of soil microbial community structure in regulating these changes remain unclear. Here, effects of conversion from forest on microbial residue C accumulation in three plantations, including tea (Camellia sinensis var. assamica), walnut (Juglans regia), and macadamia (Macadamia integrifolia). We assessed amino sugars content and the relative importance of soil microbial community structure, soil fertility, and aboveground biomass in four forest types in southwest Yunnan province, China. Our results show that total microbial residue C accounted for 27.8 % of SOC on average across all forest types, and fungal residue C contributed more to SOC than bacterial residue C across different forest types. Conversion from primary forest decreased fungal, bacterial, and total microbial residue C content in all plantation types except tea. Microbial residue C contents was significantly lower in the macadamia plantation than in the primary forest and the tea plantation. Fungal and total microbial residue C content increased with increasing soil microbial community composition, soil fungal abundance, and soil fertility. Soil fertility regulated fungal, bacterial, and total microbial residue C accumulation, which was major determinant of microbial residue C via its influence on soil fungal and bacterial abundance. Overall, we found that soil fungal abundance contributed more to microbial residue C accumulation than change in soil microbial community composition. We also found that soil bacterial abundance was negatively correlated with fungal and microbial residue C, while soil fungal abundance was positively related to microbial residue C accumulation. Ascomycota was most important phylum regulating microbial residue C. These findings suggest that soil fungal and bacterial abundance and soil fertility are the principal regulators of microbial residue C accumulation during the conversion from primary forest to different plantations. Agroforestry management practices governed soil organic carbon (SOC) and microbial community structure in terrestrial ecosystems, yet the effect of these practices on microbial necromass carbon (C) remain poorly understood in a subtropical region. Here, we compared the differences in fungal, bacterial, and microbial necromass C (indicated by amino sugars) and their contributions to SOC among different forest types including macadamia monoculture plantation (MMP) and macadamia-based agroforestry systems intercropping with dasheen (MDAS), konjac (MKAS), and maize (MMAS) in the Lincang city, southwest Yunnan province, China, and assessed the impact of aboveground biomass, soil fertility, and soil microbial community structure on microbial necromass C and its contribution to SOC. Compared with monoculture plantation, macadamia-based agroforestry decreased SOC, and changed significantly soil microbial α diversity, β diversity, and microbial necromass C and its contribution to SOC (P < 0.01). Microbial necromass C and its contribution to SOC were no significant difference between MMP and MMAS. MDAS and MKAS had lower microbial necromass C than MMP (35.11 % and 63.62 %, respectively). SOC increased with increasing soil fungal and microbial necromass C among the agroforestry systems. Soil fertility was the most important factor affecting fungal (41.45 %), bacterial (33.84 %), and microbial necromass C (40.63 %). Importantly, soil fertility and fungal β diversity directly negatively affected soil fungal and microbial necromass C and their contributions to SOC. Furthermore, woody aboveground biomass affected microbial necromass C directly or indirectly via soil fungal β diversity. Overall, our findings suggest that soil fungal β diversity drove microbial necromass C accumulation and its contribution to SOC in a macadamia-based agroforestry systems, which reveal that sowing crop may be key considerations in mitigating climate change. It is essential to understand how the loss of biodiversity impacts both ecosystem function (EF) and multifunctionality (EMF). Previous studies have mostly focused on predicting how species richness (SR) impacts EMF, while the effect of functional diversity (FD) on EMF remains unclear. Specifically, we know little about the primary functional drivers impacting EMF compared with SR. Therefore, we analysed 8 ecosystem functions within 58 natural secondary forest plots to investigate the effect of FD on both individual EF and EMF. Our results suggest that SR and FD had very significant positive effects on plant phosphorus, soil available phosphorus, and soil total nitrogen. FD explained significantly more variations in these functional responses than SR for individual ecosystem functioning. We also used a multiple threshold approach to test the effect of SR and FD on EMF. We found that FD and SR were positively related to EMF regardless of whether low-level function or high-level function was desired, but FD had a larger effect than SR. Based on the averaging approach, OLS regression, multivariate linear regression model and random forest analysis, we found that SR and FD were both drivers of EMF but that FD had a stronger effect and could explain more variation. Strong second-harmonic generation (SHG) and a short ultraviolet (UV) cutoff edge are two crucial yet often conflicting parameters that must be finely tuned in the exploration of nonlinear optical (NLO) materials. In this study, two new rare earth borate NLO crystals, K 7 BaSc 2 B 15 O 30 (KBSBO) and Rb 21 Sr 3.8 Sc 5.2 B 45 O 90 (RSSBO), were rationally designed through a bifunctional primitive strategy to achieve an optimized balance between favorable SHG efficiency and UV transparency. As anticipated, both KBSBO and RSSBO exhibit a wide UV transparency window below 190 nm. Notably, these tailored crystals display strong SHG responses, with RSSBO achieving a remarkable enhancement in SHG efficiency (2 × KDP), surpassing that of most deep-UV rare earth borates containing [B 5 O 10 ] groups known to date. Theoretical calculations and structural analyses reveal that the impressive SHG activities primarily stem from the [B 5 O 10 ] groups and [ScO 6 ] polyhedra. At present, traditional music therapy based on "white noise" is commonly used to treat tinnitus patients. This study aims to apply "pink noise", which has a more balanced frequency distribution than white noise, to the field of tinnitus rehabilitation treatment to study its inhibitory effect on tinnitus. Fractal technology (fractal mathematics) was used to generate semi-repetitive tones as the basic tone of music therapy. This clinical study recruited 43 adult tinnitus patients with varying degrees of hearing loss as the study subjects. All patients received fractal music therapy with hearing aids. The study evaluated the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) of patients' usage and tested the indicators with paired sample T-tests. The results indicate that "pink noise" is effective in the treatment of tinnitus, and the differences in the scores are statistically significant before and after treatment (P<0.05). In addition, by comparing the tone spectra of "white noise" and "pink noise", we found that the frequency component power of "pink noise" is mainly concentrated in the middle and low frequency range. Its slope is -3 dB/Oct, which means that the frequency decays downwards as the ratio increases. In this study, a tinnitus music therapy based on the "pink noise" tone was developed, which mainly solved the awkward problem of no specific drugs or special tinnitus treatment equipment. Borate materials continue to command considerable attention due to their remarkable capacity for applications in deep ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths. Herein, two new metal borates KSrM 3 B 2 O 9 (M = Al and Ga) were extracted via the application of flux techniques. These two crystals adopt a centrosymmetric space group P 2 1 / c (no. 14), showcasing a layered structural configuration composed of isolated [BO 3 ] plane triangles and [AlO 4 ]/[GaO 4 ] tetrahedra. Thermal analysis revealed that KSrM 3 B 2 O 9 (M = Al and Ga) exhibits an incongruent nature and possesses good thermal stability up to 1083 and 983 °C, respectively. Notably, these compounds display a short UV-transmission cutoff edge, approximately around 194 and 200 nm, accompanied by band gaps of 5.47 and 4.83 eV, respectively. Furthermore, KSrM 3 B 2 O 9 (M = Al and Ga) demonstrates a moderate optical birefringence of 0.026 and 0.025, respectively. Additionally, first-principles calculations were employed to shed light on the intricate interplay between the structure and properties of these compounds.
