Wireless baseband processing (WBP) is a key element of wireless communications, with a series of signal processing modules to improve data throughput and counter channel fading. Conventional hardware solutions, such as digital signal processors (DSPs) and more recently, graphic processing units (GPUs), provide various degrees of parallelism, yet they both fail to take into account the cyclical and consecutive character of WBP. Furthermore, the large amount of data in WBPs cannot be processed quickly in symmetric multiprocessors (SMPs) due to the unpredictability of memory latency. To address this issue, we propose a hierarchical dataflow-driven architecture to accelerate WBP. A pack-and-ship approach is presented under a non-uniform memory access (NUMA) architecture to allow the subordinate tiles to operate in a bundled access and execute manner. We also propose a multi-level dataflow model and the related scheduling scheme to manage and allocate the heterogeneous hardware resources. Experiment results demonstrate that our prototype achieves $2\times$ and $2.3\times$ speedup in terms of normalized throughput and single-tile clock cycles compared with GPU and DSP counterparts in several critical WBP benchmarks. On August 24, 2023, Japan controversially decided to discharge nuclear wastewater from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the ocean, sparking intense domestic and global debates. This study uses evolutionary game theory to analyze the strategic dynamics between Japan, other countries, and the Japan Fisheries Association. By incorporating economic, legal, international aid, and environmental factors, the research identifies three evolutionarily stable strategies, analyzing them via numerical simulations. The focus is on Japan's shift from wastewater release to its cessation, exploring the myriad factors influencing this transition and their effects on stakeholders' decisions. Key insights highlight the need for international cooperation, rigorous scientific research, public education, and effective wastewater treatment methods. Offering both a fresh theoretical perspective and practical guidance, this study aims to foster global consensus on nuclear wastewater management, crucial for marine conservation and sustainable development.

Predicting reactants from a specified core product stands as a fundamental challenge within organic synthesis, termed retrosynthesis prediction. Recently, semi-template-based methods and graph-edits-based methods have achieved good performance in terms of both interpretability and accuracy. However, due to their mechanisms these methods cannot predict complex reactions, e.g., reactions with multiple reaction center or attaching the same leaving group to more than one atom. In this study we propose a semi-template-based method, the \textbf{Retro}synthesis via \textbf{S}earch \textbf{i}n (Hyper) \textbf{G}raph (RetroSiG) framework to alleviate these limitations. In the proposed method, we turn the reaction center identification and the leaving group completion tasks as tasks of searching in the product molecular graph and leaving group hypergraph respectively. As a semi-template-based method RetroSiG has several advantages. First, RetroSiG is able to handle the complex reactions mentioned above by its novel search mechanism. Second, RetroSiG naturally exploits the hypergraph to model the implicit dependencies between leaving groups. Third, RetroSiG makes full use of the prior, i.e., one-hop constraint. It reduces the search space and enhances overall performance. Comprehensive experiments demonstrated that RetroSiG achieved competitive results. Furthermore, we conducted experiments to show the capability of RetroSiG in predicting complex reactions. Ablation experiments verified the efficacy of specific elements, such as the one-hop constraint and the leaving group hypergraph.

For the Crouzeix-Raviart and enriched Crouzeix-Raviart elements, asymptotic expansions of eigenvalues of the Stokes operator are derived by establishing two pseudostress interpolations, which admit a full one-order supercloseness with respect to the numerical velocity and the pressure, respectively. The design of these interpolations overcomes the difficulty caused by the lack of supercloseness of the canonical interpolations for the two nonconforming elements, and leads to an intrinsic and concise asymptotic analysis of numerical eigenvalues, which proves an optimal superconvergence of eigenvalues by the extrapolation algorithm. Meanwhile, an optimal superconvergence of postprocessed approximations for the Stokes equation is proved by use of this supercloseness. Finally, numerical experiments are tested to verify the theoretical results.

In this paper, a direct finite element method is proposed for solving interface problems on simple unfitted meshes. The fact that the two interface conditions form a $H^{\frac12}(\Gamma)\times H^{-\frac12}(\Gamma)$ pair leads to a simple and direct weak formulation with an integral term for the mutual interaction over the interface, and the well-posedness of this weak formulation is proved. Based on this formulation, a direct finite element method is proposed to solve the problem on two adjacent subdomains separated by the interface by conforming finite element and conforming mixed finite element, respectively. The well-posedness and an optimal a priori analysis are proved for this direct finite element method under some reasonable assumptions. A simple lowest order direct finite element method by using the linear element method and the lowest order Raviart-Thomas element method is proposed and analyzed to admit the optimal a priori error estimate by verifying the aforementioned assumptions. Numerical tests are also conducted to verify the theoretical results and the effectiveness of the direct finite element method.

Multi-modal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have shown impressive abilities in generating reasonable responses with respect to multi-modal contents. However, there is still a wide gap between the performance of recent MLLM-based applications and the expectation of the broad public, even though the most powerful OpenAI's GPT-4 and Google's Gemini have been deployed. This paper strives to enhance understanding of the gap through the lens of a qualitative study on the generalizability, trustworthiness, and causal reasoning capabilities of recent proprietary and open-source MLLMs across four modalities: ie, text, code, image, and video, ultimately aiming to improve the transparency of MLLMs. We believe these properties are several representative factors that define the reliability of MLLMs, in supporting various downstream applications. To be specific, we evaluate the closed-source GPT-4 and Gemini and 6 open-source LLMs and MLLMs. Overall we evaluate 230 manually designed cases, where the qualitative results are then summarized into 12 scores (ie, 4 modalities times 3 properties). In total, we uncover 14 empirical findings that are useful to understand the capabilities and limitations of both proprietary and open-source MLLMs, towards more reliable downstream multi-modal applications.

Occupancy prediction plays a pivotal role in autonomous driving. Previous methods typically construct dense 3D volumes, neglecting the inherent sparsity of the scene and suffering from high computational costs. To bridge the gap, we introduce a novel fully sparse occupancy network, termed SparseOcc. SparseOcc initially reconstructs a sparse 3D representation from camera-only inputs and subsequently predicts semantic/instance occupancy from the 3D sparse representation by sparse queries. A mask-guided sparse sampling is designed to enable sparse queries to interact with 2D features in a fully sparse manner, thereby circumventing costly dense features or global attention. Additionally, we design a thoughtful ray-based evaluation metric, namely RayIoU, to solve the inconsistency penalty along the depth axis raised in traditional voxel-level mIoU criteria. SparseOcc demonstrates its effectiveness by achieving a RayIoU of 34.0, while maintaining a real-time inference speed of 17.3 FPS, with 7 history frames inputs. Urban water-surface robust perception serves as the foundation for intelligent monitoring of aquatic environments and the autonomous navigation and operation of unmanned vessels, especially in the context of waterway safety. It is worth noting that current multi-sensor fusion and multi-task learning models consume substantial power and heavily rely on high-power GPUs for inference. This contributes to increased carbon emissions, a concern that runs counter to the prevailing emphasis on environmental preservation and the pursuit of sustainable, low-carbon urban environments. In light of these concerns, this paper concentrates on low-power, lightweight, multi-task panoptic perception through the fusion of visual and 4D radar data, which is seen as a promising low-cost perception method. We propose a framework named Achelous++ that facilitates the development and comprehensive evaluation of multi-task water-surface panoptic perception models. Achelous++ can simultaneously execute five perception tasks with high speed and low power consumption, including object detection, object semantic segmentation, drivable-area segmentation, waterline segmentation, and radar point cloud semantic segmentation. Furthermore, to meet the demand for developers to customize models for real-time inference on low-performance devices, a novel multi-modal pruning strategy known as Heterogeneous-Aware SynFlow (HA-SynFlow) is proposed. Besides, Achelous++ also supports random pruning at initialization with different layer-wise sparsity, such as Uniform and Erdos-Renyi-Kernel (ERK). Overall, our Achelous++ framework achieves state-of-the-art performance on the WaterScenes benchmark, excelling in both accuracy and power efficiency compared to other single-task and multi-task models. While several long-form VideoQA datasets have been introduced, the length of both videos used to curate questions and sub-clips of clues leveraged to answer those questions have not yet reached the criteria for genuine long-form video understanding. Moreover, their QAs are unduly narrow and modality-biased, lacking a wider view of understanding long-term video content with rich dynamics and complex narratives. To remedy this, we introduce MoVQA, a long-form movie question-answering dataset, and benchmark to assess the diverse cognitive capabilities of multimodal systems rely on multi-level temporal lengths, with considering both video length and clue length. Additionally, to take a step towards human-level understanding in long-form video, versatile and multimodal question-answering is designed from the moviegoer-perspective to assess the model capabilities on various perceptual and cognitive axes.Through analysis involving various baselines reveals a consistent trend: the performance of all methods significantly deteriorate with increasing video and clue length. Meanwhile, our established baseline method has shown some improvements, but there is still ample scope for enhancement on our challenging MoVQA dataset. We expect our MoVQA to provide a new perspective and encourage inspiring works on long-form video understanding research.

Diffusion models have made tremendous progress in text-driven image and video generation. Now text-to-image foundation models are widely applied to various downstream image synthesis tasks, such as controllable image generation and image editing, while downstream video synthesis tasks are less explored for several reasons. First, it requires huge memory and computation overhead to train a video generation foundation model. Even with video foundation models, additional costly training is still required for downstream video synthesis tasks. Second, although some works extend image diffusion models into videos in a training-free manner, temporal consistency cannot be well preserved. Finally, these adaption methods are specifically designed for one task and fail to generalize to different tasks. To mitigate these issues, we propose a training-free general-purpose video synthesis framework, coined as {\bf BIVDiff}, via bridging specific image diffusion models and general text-to-video foundation diffusion models. Specifically, we first use a specific image diffusion model (e.g., ControlNet and Instruct Pix2Pix) for frame-wise video generation, then perform Mixed Inversion on the generated video, and finally input the inverted latents into the video diffusion models (e.g., VidRD and ZeroScope) for temporal smoothing. This decoupled framework enables flexible image model selection for different purposes with strong task generalization and high efficiency. To validate the effectiveness and general use of BIVDiff, we perform a wide range of video synthesis tasks, including controllable video generation, video editing, video inpainting, and outpainting., Comment: Accepted by CVPR 2024. Vision Transformer (ViT) has shown high potential in video recognition, owing to its flexible design, adaptable self-attention mechanisms, and the efficacy of masked pre-training. Yet, it remains unclear how to adapt these pre-trained short-term ViTs for temporal action detection (TAD) in untrimmed videos. The existing works treat them as off-the-shelf feature extractors for each short-trimmed snippet without capturing the fine-grained relation among different snippets in a broader temporal context. To mitigate this issue, this paper focuses on designing a new mechanism for adapting these pre-trained ViT models as a unified long-form video transformer to fully unleash its modeling power in capturing inter-snippet relation, while still keeping low computation overhead and memory consumption for efficient TAD. To this end, we design effective cross-snippet propagation modules to gradually exchange short-term video information among different snippets from two levels. For inner-backbone information propagation, we introduce a cross-snippet propagation strategy to enable multi-snippet temporal feature interaction inside the backbone.For post-backbone information propagation, we propose temporal transformer layers for further clip-level modeling. With the plain ViT-B pre-trained with VideoMAE, our end-to-end temporal action detector (ViT-TAD) yields a very competitive performance to previous temporal action detectors, riching up to 69.5 average mAP on THUMOS14, 37.40 average mAP on ActivityNet-1.3 and 17.20 average mAP on FineAction., Comment: Accepted by CVPR2024
