Advancing object detection to open-vocabulary and few-shot transfer has long been a challenge for computer vision research. This work explores a continual learning approach that enables a detector to expand its zero/few-shot capabilities via multi-dataset vision-language pre-training. Using natural language as knowledge representation, we explore methods to accumulate "visual vocabulary" from different training datasets and unify the task as a language-conditioned detection framework. Specifically, we propose a novel language-aware detector OmDet and a novel training mechanism. The proposed multimodal detection network can resolve the technical challenges in multi-dataset joint training and it can generalize to arbitrary number of training datasets without the requirements for manual label taxonomy merging. Experiment results on COCO, Pascal VOC, and Wider Face/Pedestrian confirmed the efficacy by achieving on par or higher scores in joint training compared to training separately. Moreover, we pre-train on more than 20 million images with 4 million unique object vocabulary, and the resulting model is evaluated on 35 downstream tasks of ODinW. Results show that OmDet is able to achieve the state-of-the-art fine-tuned performance on ODinW. And analysis shows that by scaling up the proposed pre-training method, OmDet continues to improve its zero/few-shot tuning performance, suggesting a promising way for further scaling.

Although the action site of wilforine is located in the muscle tissue of insects, the insecticidal mechanism of wilforine is not yet clear. This research explored the effects of wilforine on the calcium signaling pathway using the calcium imaging technique to reveal the insecticidal mechanism. It was confirmed that wilforine had strong cytotoxicity to Mythimna separata myocytes with the IC50 values of 25.14 and 19.65 mg/L using CCK-8 and 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide methods, respectively. The morphological development of M. separata myocytes was also affected. The calcium imaging technique showed that the intracellular calcium ion concentration ([Ca2+]i) increased by 23.45% of the initial value after being treated with 100 nM wilforine. However, wilforine did not increase [Ca2+]i after the myocytes were preincubated with thapsigargin, and the [Ca2+]i could not be decreased by 50 μM ryanodine after being treated with 100 nM wilforine. These results indicated that the targets of wilforine are located in the sarcoplasmic reticulum, and ryanodine receptor (RyR) is an important action target of wilforine. Furthermore, wilforine can also activate the inositol triphosphate receptor (IP3R), which was confirmed through the use of 2-aminoethyl diphenylborinate, an inhibitor of IP3R. Connected with previous research studies, it can be concluded that wilforine affects the calcium signaling pathway by combining with RyR and IP3R, causing calcium dyshomeostasis, which results in insect paralysis and death.

Background Thrips Anaphothrips obscurus are one of the cosmopolitan major pests feeding on cereals and other grasses. In order to develop alternatives of chemical insecticides for thrips control, based on fumigant activity screening and evaluation of 22 essential oil (EO) compounds against the thrips, the binary interactions of methyl salicylate and carvacrol (MS-C) with high fumigant toxicity were studied systematically by bioassay and field trials. Results The bioassay results showed that six in 22 EO compounds had high fumigant toxicity against both the second-instar nymphs and adults of A. obscurus, including methyl salicylate, carvacrol, thymol, trans-cinnamaldehyde, diallyl trisulfide, and L-perillaldehyde. Furthermore, the combination of methyl salicylate mixed with carvacrol at a volume ratio of 5:5 exhibited the most significant synergism against A. obscurus, with a poison ratio value of 1.32 and a co-toxicity coefficient of 151.15. The optimal formulation of microemulsion (ME) was composed of 5% methyl salicylate, 5% carvacrol, 46% adjuvant and 44% deionized water. The result of dynamic light scattering and stability showed that MS-C 10% ME was a transparent, single-phase and homogeneous liquid system. Field trials indicated that the ME displayed a significant control efficacy of about 89.17% on thrips in peppers, and 82.59% in broad bean on the seventh day post application with a dosage of 600.0 g A.I hm-2 , respectively. Conclusion The binary combination of MS-C possesses strikingly synergistic action against thrips A. obscurus, and the MS-C 10% ME has the potential to be developed as a botanical pesticide product for thrips control. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry.

A new strategy based on the P excess reaction system is innovated to hydrothermally synthesize olivine phosphates (LiMPO4), and even unoptimized samples still show competitive electrochemical performance. Meanwhile, it is found that the presence of NH4+ in the P excess reaction system is detrimental to the efficient hydrothermal synthesis of LiMPO4.

In this paper, a C-band dual-polarized waveguide slot antenna used in satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) subsystem is introduced. Horizontal polarization and vertical polarization realized by different slot forms respectively. The dual polarization waveguide slot antenna is composed of two layers of cavity. The vertically polarized waveguide ridge with capacitance plates reduces the performance with ridge gap. The final design structure is simple and easy to fabricate, Based on the project requirements, a 16*16 array is fabricated. the experimental results achive excellent performance. The VSWR is less than 1.6, the efficiency is more than 90%, the cross polarization is lower than -35dB.

The evaluation of herbicidal activity and the isolation of plant allelopathic substances can lead to the discovery of new herbicide. This study has confirmed that the ethanol extract of S. mukorossi leaves was inhibitory to growth of Avena fatua L. and Amaranthus retroflexus L. both in petri dish experiment and pot culture assay, with the fresh weight inhibition varied between 47.60% and 62.05% at a concentration of 40 g/L of the leaf extract, being comparable to that of a commercialized natural product herbicide pelargonic acid at a concentration of 4 g/L. Five herbicidal compounds, oleanolic acid (1), lupeol (2), d-pinitol (3), hexadecanoic acid (4) and octadecanoic acid (5) were isolated from the most active fraction, petroleum ether extract. D-pinitol (3) showed the highest growth inhibitory activity against both the shoot and root of A. fatua, with the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of 53.61 and 56.43 μg/mL, respectively. Furthermore, oleanolic acid (1) and d-pinitol (3) also inhibited the growth of A. retroflexus with the IC50 value of 56.05 and 61.89 μg/mL against shoot growth, and 58.07 and 66.70 μg/mL against root growth, respectively. Thus, oleanolic acid (1) and d-pinitol (3) are the main phytotoxin constituents of S. mukorossi, and these compounds have the potential for further development as a botanical herbicide.
