The current understanding of cerebral waste clearance (CWC) involves cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) participation but lacks convincing evidence for the direct participation of the parenchymal vascular system. The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of the parenchymal vascular system in CSF tracer clearance in rats.We used superparamagnetic iron oxide-enhanced susceptibility-weighted imaging (SPIO-SWI) and quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) methods to simultaneously study 7 T MRI signal changes in parenchymal veins, arteries, and their corresponding para-vascular spaces in 26 rats, following intra-cisterna magna (ICM) infusion of different CSF tracers (FeREX, Ferumoxytol, Fe-Dextran) to determine the amount of tracer in the artery and vein quantitatively.We observed that the parenchymal venous system participated in CSF tracer clearance following ICM infusion of different MRI tracers with different concentrations of iron. Parenchymal venous participation was more obvious when 75 μg iron was injected. In the parenchymal veins, the relative mean (± SE) value of the susceptibility increased by 13.5 (± 1.0)% at 15 min post-tracer infusion (p0.01), and 33.6 (± 6.7)% at 45 min post-tracer infusion (p = 0.01), compared to baseline. In contrast to the parenchymal veins, a negligible amount of CSF tracer entered the parenchymal arteries: 1.3 (± 2.6)% at 15 min post-tracer infusion (p = 0.6), and 12 (± 19)% at 45 min post-tracer infusion (p = 0.5), compared to baseline.MRI tracers can enter the parenchymal vascular system and more MRI tracers were observed in the cerebral venous than arterial vessels, suggesting the direct participation of parenchymal vascular system in CWC.• MRI results revealed that the parenchymal venous system directly participates in cerebrospinal fluid tracer clearance following ICM infusion of MRI tracer. • Different sizes of MRI tracers can enter the parenchymal venous system.

Summary Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) are fascinating due to their interesting properties and applications. Purpose The optimization of MSNs for drug delivery applications was achieved by preparing different formulations of MSNs using different concentrations of ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) (0.7, 1.4, 2.8, 4.2, and 5.6 mg/ml for MSN1, MSN2, MSN3, MSN4, and MSN5, respectively). Methods In the synthesis of MSNs, NH4OH was used as a catalyst while tetraethyl orthosilicate were used as a source of silica. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image revealed a linear increase in the size of the formed MSNs with increase in catalyst concentration. TEM images showed that all investigated nanoparticles were dispersed and spherical (changed to oval on addition of higher concentration of NH4OH). Results The hydrodynamic sizes of prepared MSNs were (64.18 ± 6.8, 90.46 ± 7.1, 118.98 ± 7.01, 152.7 ± 1.7, and 173.9 ± 9.36 nm for MSN1, MSN2, MSN3, MSN4, and MSN5, respectively) assessed using the dynamic light scattering (DLS) technique. The negative values of zeta potential indicated high surface stability of the formed MSNs. N2-isotherm revealed that the pore volume of MSNs decreased with increase in the size of MSNs. In vitro drug release showed that all MSNs exhibited high encapsulation efficiency of doxorubicin. The encapsulation efficiency were 92.2%, 82.8%, 72.2%, 72.1% and 71.9%for MSN1, MSN2, MSN3, MSN4, and MSN5, respectively. Conclusion MSN1 and MSN2, with sizes of 64.18 ± 6.8 and 90.46 ± 7.1 nm, pore volume of 0.89 and 0.356 cc/g, encapsulation efficiency of 92.2% and 82.8%, and adequate drug release profiles, were probably the best choices for a drug carrier in drug delivery applications.

Background: Arteriovenous fistulae (AVF) are the gold standard for vascular access for hemodialysis. Although the vein must thicken and dilate for successful hemodialysis, excessive wall thickness leads to stenosis causing AVF failure. Since TGF-β (transforming growth factor-beta) regulates ECM (extracellular matrix) deposition and smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation—critical components of wall thickness—we hypothesized that disruption of TGF-β signaling prevents excessive wall thickening during venous remodeling. Methods: A mouse aortocaval fistula model was used. SB431542—an inhibitor of TGF-β receptor I—was encapsulated in nanoparticles and applied to the AVF adventitia in C57BL/6J mice. Alternatively, AVFs were created in mice with conditional disruption of TGF-β receptors in either SMCs or endothelial cells. Doppler ultrasound was performed serially to confirm patency and to measure vessel diameters. AVFs were harvested at predetermined time points for histological and immunofluorescence analyses. Results: Inhibition of TGF-β signaling with SB431542-containing nanoparticles significantly reduced p-Smad2–positive cells in the AVF wall during the early maturation phase (days 7–21) and was associated with decreased AVF wall thickness that showed both decreased collagen density and decreased SMC proliferation. SMC-specific TGF-β signaling disruption decreased collagen density but not SMC proliferation or wall thickness. Endothelial cell–specific TGF-β signaling disruption decreased both collagen density and SMC proliferation in the AVF wall and was associated with reduced wall thickness, increased outward remodeling, and improved AVF patency. Conclusions: Endothelial cell–targeted TGF-β inhibition may be a translational strategy to improve AVF patency.

Introduction: Essential oils are considered a potential alternative to synthetic drugs in the management of diseases such as peptic ulcer (PU) and ulcerative colitis (UC). This study is concerned with comparing the therapeutic effects of Cuminum cyminum L, Carum carvi L, and Thymus vulgaris L. essential oils on PU and UC models induced by ethanol. Methods: Rats were divided into 10 groups; control groups were treated with saline and experimental groups with 500 mg/kg body weight of C. cyminum, C. carvi, or T. vulgaris essential oil. Curative effects were determined by measuring tissue oxidative markers, such as reduced glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), and myeloperoxidase (MPO), as well as the inflammatory marker prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), stomach pepsin (PEP), and colon alkaline phosphatase (ALP). Biochemical and histological examinations were done on stomach and colon tissues. Results: The current study proved the anti-ulcer effects of C. cyminum, C. carvi, and T. vulgaris essential oils. They improved the oxidative and inflammatory markers in both stomach and colon tissues and modulated stomach PEP and colon ALP activities. T. vulgaris essential oil modulated GSH and MDA levels resulting in a significant elevation in GSH levels by 120.43% and 99.46% and a significant reduction in MDA levels by 20.05% and 24.1% in PU and UC models, respectively. C. carvi essential oil was the most effective in restoring PGE2 by 71.51% compared to UC group. Results were confirmed by the morphological and histopathological changes. Conclusion: C. cyminum, C. carvi, or T. vulgaris essential oils might be used in the management of acute PU and UC.

COVID-19 is a respiratory infection that has lately begun to affect other vital organs, including the heart, kidney, and liver. The purpose of this study was to investigate the hepatic complications in COVID-19 patients and the risk of being admitted to ICU or facing death. Methodology: Comorbidities (hypertension and diabetes), COVID-19 symptoms, laboratory findings (ALT level, AST level, and albumin), complications during hospitalization, treatment protocol used, and survival outcomes were all studied in 200 COVID-19 infected Egyptian patients who had virological symptoms and were followed up until they recovered or died. It was found that older people and those with higher blood glucose levels have a higher risk of developing liver-associated COVID-19 disorders. Also, the majority of patients who developed liver complications in the course of the infection had high mortality rates. Patients with diabetes, hypertension, or hepatic disease are at higher risk of ICU admission or death. Hence, it is important to pay attention to these problems in the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 to develop a suitable individualized treatment protocol. There was also a correlation between the mortality in COVID-19 patients and both, high blood glucose and liver enzyme levels. It can be attributed to the correlation between diabetes and liver disease as every disease may be a complication to the other; moreover, COVID-19 may lead to increased blood sugar levels in addition to ALT and AST levels. Another theory is that COVID-19 may affect the liver and hence people with chronic liver disease.

Objective Our objective was to investigate the relative frequency and pattern of inborn errors of immunity (IEIs) among Egyptian children with recurrent acute otitis media (rAOM). Methods This was a cross-sectional study that included children from the age of 6 months to 16 years with rAOM. Those with structural, functional, and environmental risk factors were excluded. Enrolled children underwent thorough clinical, otorhinolaryngological, and immunological evaluation, including hematological counting, quantitative immunoglobulins assay, lymphocytic flow cytometric immunophenotyping, CH50, and phagocytic function tests. Results The study included 69 children with rAOM (44 boys and 25 girls; median age 30 months). IEIs were identified in 14 children, including transient hypogammaglobulinemia (three cases), selective IgA deficiency (three cases), agammaglobulinemia (two cases), common variable immunodeficiency (two cases), and one case for each of congenital neutropenia, Chediak–Higashi syndrome, hyper IgM syndrome, and Griscelli syndrome. Parental consanguinity and history of unexplained/infection-related siblings' deaths were significantly associated with IEIs (p = 0.018 and 0.003, respectively). AOM and related complications were more frequent among IEI cases (p = 0.018 and 0.032, respectively). IEI cases had lower levels of hemoglobin (10.7 ± 2.80 vs. 12.3 ± 1.64 g/dL; p = 0.002), IgG (203 [78–1,370] vs. 708 [42.3–1,509] mg/dL; p = 0.000), and IgA (24.3 [3–310] vs. 80 [15.6–305] mg/dL; p = 0.009) compared with non-IEI cases. Conclusion The current study identified IEIs in one-fifth of children with rAOM, most of which were predominately antibody deficiencies. An immunological workup for rAOM is particularly important in the presence of certain indicators for IEIs, provided that other more common risk factors are excluded.

Purpose The current study aimed to investigate the efficacy of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) synthesized by Melia azedarach aqueous extract to control Hyalomma dromedarii tick, and to evaluate their toxic effects on Swiss albino mice. Methods ZnO NPs were synthesized using M. azedarach aqueous extract. UV–visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive spectroscopy were used to characterize the synthesized NPs. Egg, nymph, larva, and adult immersion tests were used for bioassay of tick stages with the synthesized ZnO NP. A toxicity study was performed on Swiss albino mice after treatment with 1/10 of the oral LD50 of ZnO NPs (8437 mg/kg) for 5 successive days by oral gavage. Results The LC50 of ZnO NPs on the eggs, larvae, and nymphs was 11.6, 8.03, and 3.9 mg/ml, respectively. The reproductive performance of females treated with ZnO NPs was lower than that of untreated females. The hematological results showed an insignificant increase in the level of white blood cells with normal red blood cells, hemoglobin, in addition to normal platelet count. The biochemical analysis showed an insignificant increased level (P > 0.05) of alkaline phosphatase and alanine aminotransferase. The liver and kidney suffered few histopathological changes after oral administration of ZnO NPs. Conclusion These results suggest that ZnO NPs have good acaricidal activity against eggs, larvae, and engorged nymphs of H. dromedarii. ZnO NPs minimized the number of eggs laid by engorged females and the hatchability of their eggs. ZnO NPs did not affect unfed adults. The toxicity results of the mice revealed insignificant changes in the hemogram, biochemistry, with liver and kidney suffering few histopathological changes. Future studies are needed to assess application routes (topical vs oral). Based on these findings, ZnO NPs may be incorporated in the control of camel tick H. dromedarii.

Context: Urinary incontinence is an important multifactorial health problem that affects women's life quality negatively and is related significantly to age, education, occupation, marital status, and body mass index. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of nursing guidelines on marital outcomes of women with urinary incontinence. Methods: Quasi-experimental (pre/posttest, study/control) design was used. The study was conducted at the urogynecology unit at Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital on a purposive sample of 76 women attending the setting mentioned above. Species belonging to the Zingiberaceae family are of high nutritional, industrial, and medicinal values. In this study, we investigated the effect of processing steps (fresh vs. dried milled rhizomes) and extraction methodologies (hydrodistillation vs. hexane extraction) of curcuma essential oil on its chemical content (using GC-MS analysis), its antioxidant behavior (using in vitro assays such as DPPH, ABTS, CUPRAC, FRAP, phosphomolybdenum, and metal chelation), and its enzyme inhibitory activities (on tyrosinase, acetylcholinesterase, butylcholinesterase, α-amylase, and α-glucosidase) supported by multivariate analysis, in silico studies, and molecular dynamics. The GC-MS investigations revealed a high degree of similarity in the chemical profile of fresh hydrodistilled and hexane-extracted essential oils with tumerone and curlone being the major metabolites. The extraction techniques affected the concentrations of other minor constituents such as terpinolene, caryophylla-4(12), 8(13)-dien-5α-ol, and neo-intermedeol, which were almost exclusively detected in the hydrodistilled fresh essential oil; however, zingiberene and β-sesquiphellandrene were predominant in the hexane-extracted fresh essential oil. In the dried curcuma rhizomes, tumerone and curlone contents were significantly reduced, with the former being detected only in the hydrodistilled essential oil while the latter was doubly concentrated in the hexane-derived oil. Constituents such as D-limonene and caryophyllene oxide represented ca. 29% of the dried hydrodistilled essential oil, while ar-turmerone was detected only in the dried hydrodistilled and hexane-extracted essential oils, representing ca. 16% and 26% of the essential oil composition, respectively. These variations in the essential oil chemical content have subsequently affected its antioxidant properties and enzyme inhibitory activities. In silico investigations showed that hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonding were the characteristic binding modes of the bioactive metabolites to their respective targets. Molecular dynamics revealed the stability of the ligand-target complex over time. From the current study we conclude that fresh hexane-extracted essential oil showed the best radical scavenging properties, and fresh rhizomes in general display better enzyme inhibitory activity regardless of the extraction technique. © 2023 by the authors.

The preparation of adsorbents plays a vital role in the adsorption method. In particular, many adsorbents with high specific surface areas and unique shapes are essential for the adsorption strategy. A Zn–Mg–Al/layer double hydroxide (LDH) was designed in this study using a simple co-precipitation process. Adsorbent based on Zn–Mg–Al/LDH was used to remove crystal violet (CV) from the wastewater. The impacts of the initial dye concentration, pH, and temperature on CV adsorption performance were systematically examined. The adsorbents were analyzed both before and after adsorption using FTIR, XRD, and SEM. The roughness parameters and surface morphologies of the produced LDH were estimated using 3D SEM images. Under the best conditions (dose of adsorbent = 0.07 g and pH = 9), the maximum adsorption capacity has been achieved. Adsorption kinetics studies revealed that the reaction that led to the adsorption of CV dye onto Zn–Mg–Al/LDH was a pseudo-second-order model. Additionally, intraparticle diffusion suggests that Zn–Mg–Al/LDH has a fast diffusion constant for CV molecules (0.251 mg/(g min1/2)). Furthermore, as predicted by the Langmuir model, the maximal Zn–Mg–Al/LDH adsorption capacity of CV was 64.80 mg/g. The CV dimensionless separation factor (RL) onto Zn–Mg–Al/LDH was 0.769, indicating that adsorption was favorable. The effect of temperature was performed at 25, 35, and 45 °C in order to establish the thermodynamic parameters ∆Ho, ∆So, and ∆Go. The computed values indicated exothermic and spontaneous adsorption processes. The study presented here might be used to develop new adsorbents with enhanced adsorption capabilities for the purpose of protecting the water environment.

Background Sufficient endometrial preparation with or without progesterone supplementation is crucial in artificial cycles with frozen embryo transfer (FET). We aimed to study the effect of intramuscular progesterone supplementation on the day of embryo transfer (ET) in artificial frozen cycles. Methods A clinical cohort study involved women undergoing FET with artificially prepared endometrium. Serum progesterone levels were assessed on the day of ET. Accordingly, we recruited 177 women with progesterone levels more than 9.2 ng/ml in group 1, and 177 other women with progesterone levels less than 9.2 ng/ml in group 2. Women in group 1 received only 400 mg vaginal progesterone twice-daily after ET, while women in group 2 received additional intramuscular progesterone supplementation. The chemical, clinical, and ongoing pregnancy rates, as well as the pregnancy loss rate, were assessed in both groups. Results Expectantly, both groups showed a significant difference regarding the serum progesterone level on the day of ET (13.43 ± 4.65 vs 4.62 ± 2.77, P = 574). However, with additional intramuscular progesterone supplementation in group 2, both groups showed no significant difference regarding the chemical pregnancy rate (68.93% in group 1 vs 63.84% in group 2, P = 0.311), the clinical pregnancy rate (61.02% in group 1 vs 58.76% in group 2, P = 0.664), ongoing pregnancy rate (56.50% in group 1 vs 53.11% in group 2, P = 0.522), and pregnancy loss rate (7.41% in group 1 vs 9.62% in group 2, P = 0.564). Conclusions Intramuscular progesterone supplementation in women with decreased serum progesterone levels could improve pregnancy outcomes in artificial frozen cycles. Trial registration It was first registered at ClinicalTrials.gov on 8/4/2021 with registration number NCT04837768.

Objective To assess the value of intrauterine PRP to improve IVF outcome in women with previous implantation failure. Methods Screening of Pubmed, Web of Science, and other databases from inception to August 2022 using the keywords related to “platelet-rich plasma” OR “PRP” AND “IVF” “implantation failure.” Twenty-nine studies (3308 participants) were included in our analysis, 13 were RCTs, 6 were prospective cohorts, 4 were prospective single arm, and 6 were retrospective analyses. Extracted data included settings of the study, study type, sample size, participants’ characteristics, route, volume, timing of PRP administration, and outcome parameters. Results Implantation rate was reported in 6 RCTs (886 participants) and 4 non-RCTs (732 participants). The odds ratio (OR) effect estimate was 2.62 and 2.06, with 95% CI of 1.83, 3.76, and 1.03–4.11, respectively. Endometrial thickness was compared in 4 RCTs (307 participants) and 9 non-RCTs (675 participants), which showed a mean difference of 0.93 and 1.16, with 0.59–1.27 and 0.68–1.65 95% CI, respectively. Conclusion PRP administration improves implantation, clinical pregnancy, chemical pregnancy, ongoing pregnancy, live birth rates, and endometrial thickness in women with previous implantation failure.

Background Oral insulin administration has recently become one of the most exciting research subjects. Different approaches have been carried out to get an effective oral insulin delivery system using nanotechnology. The development of a delivery system that overcomes the difficulties of oral insulin administration, achieving high stability and minimal side effects, is still an urgent need. Therefore, this study is considered one of the efforts to design a new prospective drug delivery nano-composite (silica-coated chitosan-dextran sulfate nanoparticles). Methods Chitosan-dextran sulfate nanoparticles (CS-DS NPs) were prepared via a complex coacervation method and then coated with silica. Uncoated and silica-coated CS-DS NPs were physically characterized via different techniques. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) have been used to investigate the chemical elements, size, morphology, and surface properties of the prepared formulations. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to assess the thermal properties of formed nano-formulations. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy investigated the silica coat and chitosan interaction. The encapsulation efficiency was evaluated using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. The insulin release profile of nano-formulations was performed with and without silica coat at two different pHs (5.5,7), nearly simulating the environment of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). Results The silica-coated CS-DS NPs revealed interesting physicochemical properties exemplified by suitable core particle size obtained by TEM images (145.31 ± 33.15 nm), hydrodynamic diameter (210 ± 21 nm), high stability indicated by their zeta potential value (-32 ± 3.2 mV), and adequate surface roughness assessed by AFM. The encapsulation efficiency of insulin-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (ICN) was (66.5%) higher than that of insulin-chitosan complex nanoparticles (ICCN). The silica-coated ICN demonstrated a controlled insulin release profile at pHs (5.5 and 7) compared with uncoated ICN. Conclusion The silica-coated ICN can be an efficient candidate as a desired oral delivery system, overcoming the common obstacles of peptides and proteins delivery and achieving high stability and controlled release for further applications.

Introduction Clomipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant acting as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Its maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) is 13–310 ng/mL, the therapeutic range is 220–500 ng/mL and its toxic effect appears in doses above 900 ng/mL. Objectives The fabrication of eco-friendly solid-contact ion-selective electrodes to evaluate the concentration of Clomipramine in different matrices based on disposable screen-printed carbon electrode. Methods Disposable screen-printed carbon electrode was utilized as a substrate to fabricate the proposed sensors. The sensors were optimized to determine Clomipramine using calix[4]arene as an ionophore into PVC polymeric membrane to enhance selectivity towards the target analyte. The solid-contact sensor potential stability was improved by the incorporation of graphene nanoparticles transducer layer. Results The sensors were assessed as per the IUPAC recommendations. The linearity range was 1 × 10− 2 to 1 × 10− 5.3 M. The sensors were successfully applied to determine CLM in the pharmaceutical formulation. Furthermore, the ion selective electrodes were applied for Clompiramine assay in spiked plasma for the purpose of Point-of-Care testing to be a diagnostic tool for therapeutic monitoring of the cited central nervous system agent. The findings were statistically compared to the reported method showing no statistically significant difference. Conclusion This work was concerned with developing a green analytical method for the determination of Clomipramine. The proposed SC-ISE was mixed with graphene nanocomposite transducer interlayer. The graphene layer succeeded in preventing the formation of an aqueous layer so resulted in a stable, reproducible standard potential besides the rapid response time.

Members of the order Trypanorhyncha are cestode parasites that are frequently found infecting the muscles of several marine fish species, affecting fish health, and resulting in consumers’ rejection of fish. Fifty-two specimens of marine fish were freshly caught throughout the year 2020 from boat landing sites at the Alexandria coast along the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt, including the grey trigger fish Balistes carolinensis (F: Balistidae); the mottled grouper Mycteroperca rubra (F: Serranidae) and the common sole Solea vulgaris (F: Soleidae). Blastocysts were isolated and ruptured; the generated pleurocerci were described morphologically and morphometrically by light and scanning electron microscopy. Also, multiple-sequence alignment was performed, and a phylogenetic tree was constructed following maximum likelihood analysis of the 18s and 28s ribosomal RNA sequences of the recovered worms. Thirty fish were infected; the infection was recorded as blastocysts embedded in fish flesh. Three different parasitic species were recovered and classified morphologically as Gymnorhynchus isuri, Pseudotobothrium dipsacum and Heteronybelinia estigmena. The taxonomic position of these parasites was justified by molecular analysis of their 18s and 28s rRNAs, which revealed high percentages of homology with species recovered from the GenBank. The accession numbers ON157059, ON139663 and ON139662 were respectively assigned to the recovered parasites after their deposition in GenBank. The results obtained from the molecular analyses confirmed the morphological records of the recovered parasites. Since metacestodes are found in the musculature of infected fish specimens, it is necessary to remove these areas in the commercialization of fish. RESUMO Os membros da ordem Trypanorhyncha são parasitas de cestóides que são freqüentemente encontrados infectando os músculos de várias espécies de peixes marinhos, afetando a saúde dos peixes e resultando na rejeição do peixe por parte dos consumidores. Cinqüenta e dois espécimes de peixes marinhos foram capturados recentemente durante todo o ano de 2020 nos locais de desembarque de barcos na costa de Alexandria ao longo do Mar Mediterrâneo, no Egito, incluindo o peixe de gatilho cinzento Balistes carolinensis (F: Balistidae); a garoupa mosqueada Mycteroperca rubra (F: Serranidae) e o linguado comum Solea vulgaris (F: Soleidae). Os blastocistos foram isolados e rompidos; os pleurocistos gerados foram descritos morfologicamente e morfometricamente por microscopia eletrônica de luz e varredura. Além disso, foi realizado o alinhamento de sequências múltiplas e uma árvore filogenética foi construída seguindo a análise de máxima probabilidade das sequências de RNA ribossômico de 18s e 28s dos vermes recuperados. Trinta peixes foram infectados; a infecção foi registrada como blastocistos embutidos na carne do peixe. Três espécies diferentes de parasitas foram recuperadas e classificadas morfologicamente como Gymnorhynchus isuri, Pseudotobothrium dipsacum e Heteronybelinia estigmena. A posição taxonômica desses parasitas foi justificada pela análise molecular de seus rRNAs de 18 e 28 anos, que revelou altas porcentagens de homologia com espécies recuperadas do GenBank. Os números de acesso ON157059, ON139663 e ON139662 foram respectivamente atribuídos aos parasitas recuperados após sua deposição no GenBank. Os resultados obtidos a partir das análises moleculares confirmaram os registros morfológicos dos parasitas recuperados. Como as metacestodes são encontradas na musculatura dos espécimes de peixes infectados, é necessário remover estas áreas na comercialização dos peixes.

Background The relative rarity of synchronous para-aortic lymph node (PALN) metastasis (SPM) and metachronous PALN recurrence (MPR) in colorectal carcinoma (CRC) patients leads to a limited number of studies on patient management, and no treatment guidelines have been established to date. Objective To assess the prognostic, predictive roles, and long-term outcomes of different management strategies for isolated MPR and SPM in CRC patients to establish the best one. Materials and Methods We included 35 CRC patients with isolated MPR and 25 patients with isolated SPM who underwent curative R0 resection. We performed PALN dissection (PALND) in 15 cases in MPR group and in 10 cases in the SPM group; all remaining patients in both groups underwent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) without further surgical intervention. During the study period of about 5 years, we compared the patients who underwent PALND and those who underwent CRT. Results The overall survival and recurrence-free survival rates were significantly longer in patients who underwent PALND (p = 0.049 and 0.036 respectively). Conclusions We showed that PALND in cases of CRC patients with SPM and MPR previously submitted to R0 resection was associated with favorable outcomes and better patient survival.

The digital marketing transformation of the Internet has significantly experienced a paradigm shift, i.e., a transformation from a passive source of information to an interactive and engaging participatory web. This study demonstrates the ability of electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) as a participatory web tool that enables enterprises to achieve profitable growth, resilience, business sustainability, and competitiveness, through developing operational strategy. This study adopts a conclusive descriptive cross-sectional survey research design, which allows the collection of quantitative data through structured questionnaires. The data were obtained from Egyptian social media users through a convenience sampling method. To test the hypotheses regression analysis was conducted. Results indicate that eWOM positively influences the brand image and purchase intention, which consequently enables the enterprises to achieve business sustainability. Accordingly, enterprises wanting to achieve strategic competitiveness must integrate social media into their marketing mix which would generate positive eWOM. Using convenience sampling might result in the inability to generalize the findings. This study is designed to study the effect of eWOM using social media platforms in general, however, future studies should replicate this study to specified types of different social media platforms, to identify which platform generates the highest impact. The proposed conceptual model tests a relationship that connects eWOM dimensions, namely, credibility, quality, and quantity, to purchase intention and brand image. There is lack of research in the Egyptian context on the implications of eWOM on enterprise competitiveness and sustainability

The present work was carried out to study the effect of low caloric diet supplemented with fennel seeds or black cumin seeds and their mixture on obese adult females. The control group (G1) used low caloric diet with 1000 kcal without supplementation, while groups (2 and 3) used low caloric diet supplemented with 5 g black cumin and 5g fennel seeds seeds, respectively. On the other hand, group (4) used low caloric diet supplemented a mixture of 2.5 g fennel seeds and 2.5g black cumin seeds. All supplementation were mixed with a cup of light yoghurt in dinner meal. The study was performed for 4 weeks. Anthropometric measurements and levels of serum triglyceride, cholesterol, LDL and HDL were taken pre and post the study. Females taken low caloric diet supplemented with black cumin (G2) or mixture of black cumin and fennel (G4) recorded significant decrease in their BMI when compared to the control group. Cases supplemented with Fennel (G3) recorded insignificant decrease in their BMI. The total cholesterol decreased significantly in groups (2 and 4), while it was decreased insignificantly in group (3) compared to the control group. HDL levels increased significantly in groups (2 & 4) compared to group (1). Results of the present study indicated that significant decrease were in total body weight, BMI, WC, AC, TSF and AMC in group (2) which received black cumin seeds, followed by group (4) which received mixture of black cumin seeds and fennel seeds, followed by group (3) which received fennel seeds compared to the control group.

New silicone based adducts were synthesized by reacting equimolar ratio of carbinol polydimethylsiloxane (CPDMS), 2,4-toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and polyethylene glycol (PEG, having a molecular weight of 300, 600, 1000, 2000 or 6000 Da) at 100 °C for 90 min. Only the PEG 600, 1000, and 2000 based adducts are self-water dispersible. The chemical structure of the CPDMS/TDI/PEG1000 adduct was confirmed via FTIR analysis while TEM analysis assured that the particles size of its emulsion ranges from 8 to 22 nm. The higher the PEG molecular weight of adduct, the higher is the adduct emulsion particles size. Incorporation of the aforementioned adducts emulsions as textile softeners in easy care finishing formulation of cotton fabric gives rise to an enhancement in functional properties of treated fabric namely softness and anti-crease, an improvement in percent nitrogen, tear strength, and flexibility as well as a reduction in whiteness index and wettability of treated fabric. The CPDMS/TDI/PEG1000 adduct emulsion treated fabric was characterized via SEM and EDX analysis. Combining of that adduct emulsion with triclosan, as bio-active additives, in the soft/resin finishing formulation of cotton fabric results in durable antibacterial properties of treated fabric.

Background: Hand osteoarthritis (OA) can be a distressing disorder that impairs a patients' quality of life. There is a relation between OA and vascular damage, especially atherosclerosis, and OA are both common chronic conditions associated with aging and obesity. Aim of the study: The objective of this research was to examine nailfold microcirculation in individuals with hand OA Patients and Methods: a cross-sectional, observational study, about 56 patients with hand OA were enrolled. All subjects underwent a standard radiology X-Ray examination of the hands and a Nailfold vascular examination was performed. Results: of the 56 patients studied were females, and 12 were males. Regarding the Kellgren and Lawrence scoring, it was mild (grade II) in one patient (50%) and severe (grade IV) in one patient (50%) in the male patients without pain, while in those with hand pain, it was moderate (grade III) in eight patients (80%) and severe (grade IV) in two patients (20%).it was mild (grade II) in eight patients (22.2%), moderate (grade III) in 21 patients (58.3%) and severe (grade IV) in seven patients (19.4%). Nailfold examination for studied subjects showed that there were about 41 patients (73.2%) with low capillary density and 32 patients (57.1%) with morphological changes. Conclusion: Our findings provided a general description of the NFC findings most likely to be seen in OA patients; Vascular anomalies may play a role in the illness progression and may assist in elucidating because the condition is frequently found in the distal digit joints.

Background Gait disorders which caused by stroke are one of the most common causes of functional disabilities in hemiparetic stroke patients that leads to significant impact on quality of life and financial cost. In this study, we focused on how certain gait metrics in stroke patients were affected by rhythmic auditory stimulation and treadmill training. Results In this randomized controlled experiment, which involved 30 male stroke patients, there was a significant increase in post treatment walking speed, step cycle, step length, percent of time on each foot and ambulation index in both groups. The post treatment improvement in gait parameters was significantly higher in the study group compared to the controls. Conclusions Combination of rhythmic auditory stimulation with treadmill training enhances the gait performance.

New quinoline-pyridine hybrids were designed and synthesised as PIM-1/2 kinase inhibitors. Compounds 5b, 5c, 6e, 13a, 13c, and 14a showed in-vitro low cytotoxicity against normal human lung fibroblast Wi-38 cell line and potent in-vitro anticancer activity against myeloid leukaemia (NFS-60), liver (HepG-2), prostate (PC-3), and colon (Caco-2) cancer cell lines. In addition, 6e, 13a, and 13c significantly induced apoptosis with percentage more than 66%. Moreover, 6e, 13a, and 13c significantly induced caspase 3/7 activation in HepG-2 cell line. Furthermore, 5c, 6e, and 14a showed potent in-vitro PIM-1 kinase inhibitory activity. While, 5b showed potent in-vitro PIM-2 kinase inhibitory activity. Kinetic studies using Lineweaver–Burk double-reciprocal plot indicated that 5b, 5c, 6e, and 14a behaved as competitive inhibitors while 13a behaved as both competitive and non-competitive inhibitor of PIM-1 kinase enzyme. Molecular docking studies indicated that, in-silico affinity came in coherence with the observed in-vitro inhibitory activities against PIM-1/2 kinases.

The preparation of adsorbents plays a vital part in the adsorption method. In particular, many adsorbents with high specific surface areas and unique shapes are essential for the adsorption strategy. In this study, a Zn-Mg-Al/layer double hydroxide (LDH) had been designed via a facile co-precipitation process. Adsorbent based on Zn-Mg-Al/LDH was utilized to remove crystal violet (CV) from the wastewater. The impacts of the initial dye concentration, pH, and temperature on CV adsorption performance were systematically examined. The adsorbents were analyzed both before and after adsorption using FTIR, XRD, and SEM. The roughness parameters and surface morphologies of the produced LDH were estimated using 3D SEM images. Under the best conditions (dose of adsorbent = 0.07 g and pH = 9), the maximum adsorption capacity has been achieved. Adsorption kinetics studies revealed that the reaction that led to the adsorption of CV dye onto Zn-Mg-Al/LDH was a pseudo-second-order model. Additionally, intraparticle diffusion suggests that Zn-Mg-Al/LDH has fast diffusion constant for CV molecules (0.251 mg/(g.min1/2)). Furthermore, as predicted by the Langmuir model, the maximal Zn-Mg-Al/LDH adsorption capacity of CV was 64.80 mg/g. The CV adsorption equilibrium parameter (RL) onto Zn-Mg-Al/LDH was 0.769, indicating that adsorption was favorable. The effect of temperature was performed at 25, 35, and 45 oC in order to establish the thermodynamic parameters ∆Ho, ∆So, and ∆Go. The computed values indicated exothermic and spontaneous adsorption processes. The study presented here might be used to develop new adsorbents with enhanced adsorption capabilities for the purpose of protecting the environment of water. ‎
