Abstract Background and objectives Post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) occurs in up to 50% of patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Thus, the prediction of cognitive outcomes in AIS may be useful for treatment decisions. This PSCI cohort study aimed to determine the applicability of a machine learning approach for predicting PSCI after stroke. Methods This retrospective study used a prospective PSCI cohort of patients with AIS. Demographic features, clinical characteristics, and brain imaging variables previously known to be associated with PSCI were included in the analysis. The primary outcome was PSCI at 3–6 months, defined as an adjusted z-score of less than − 2.0 standard deviation in at least one of the four cognitive domains (memory, executive/frontal, visuospatial, and language), using the Korean version of the Vascular Cognitive Impairment Harmonization Standards-Neuropsychological Protocol (VCIHS-NP). We developed four machine learning models (logistic regression, support vector machine, extreme gradient boost, and artificial neural network) and compared their accuracies for outcome variables. Results A total of 951 patients (mean age 65.7 ± 11.9; male 61.5%) with AIS were included in this study. The area under the curve for the extreme gradient boost and the artificial neural network was the highest (0.7919 and 0.7365, respectively) among the four models for predicting PSCI according to the VCIHS-NP definition. The most important features for predicting PSCI include the presence of cortical infarcts, mesial temporal lobe atrophy, initial stroke severity, stroke history, and strategic lesion infarcts. Conclusion Our findings indicate that machine-learning algorithms, particularly the extreme gradient boost and the artificial neural network models, can best predict cognitive outcomes after ischemic stroke.

106. First Experience of Single-Port Robotic Areolar Approach Thyroidectomy

Objectives Numerous minimally invasive thyroidectomy techniques have been developed and are actively utilized in hospitals around the globe. Herein, we describe a recently developed minimally invasive thyroidectomy technique that employs the da Vinci SP, and we present the preliminary clinical outcomes of single-port robotic areolar thyroidectomy (SPRA). Methods A 3-cm semi-circular incision on the right areola and a small 8-mm incision on the left areola were created. Using hydro-dissection and an advanced bipolar device, a subcutaneous skin flap was created, extending from the areola to the thyroid cartilage. The da Vinci SP was then inserted through the incision in the right areola. Between December 2022 and March 2023, 21 SPRA procedures were conducted. Patients’ medical records and surgical videos were subsequently reviewed. Results Lobectomy was performed in 17 patients, isthmectomy in 2 patients, and total thyroidectomy in 2 patients. The mean flap time was 14.9±4.2 minutes and the console time was 62.4±17.1 minutes. The mean tumor size was 0.89± 0.65 cm and the number of retrieved lymph nodes was 3.94±3.98 (range, 0–12). There were no observed instances of vocal cord palsy or hypoparathyroidism. Conclusion We successfully developed and performed the novel SPRA for the first time worldwide. Unlike other robotic surgery methods, SPRA is less invasive and leaves no visible scars. This technique employs a sophisticated single-port robotic device. However, to assess the efficacy of this method, we need to analyze more cases and conduct comparative studies in the near future.

107. Abrogation of greater graft failure risk of female-to-male liver transplantation with donors older than 40 years or graft macrosteatosis greater than 5%

Abstract Greater graft-failure-risk of female-to-male liver transplantation (LT) is thought to be due to acute decrease in hepatic-estrogen-signaling. Our previous research found evidence that female hepatic-estrogen-signaling decreases after 40 years or with macrosteatosis. Thus, we hypothesized that inferiority of female-to-male LT changes according to donor-age and macrosteatosis. We stratified 780 recipients of grafts from living-donors into four subgroups by donor-age and macrosteatosis and compared graft-failure-risk between female-to-male LT and other LTs within each subgroup using Cox model. In recipients with ≤ 40 years non-macrosteatotic donors, graft-failure-risk was significantly greater in female-to-male LT than others (HR 2.03 [1.18–3.49], P = 0.011). Within the subgroup of recipients without hepatocellular carcinoma, the inferiority of female-to-male LT became greater (HR 4.75 [2.02–11.21], P 40 years or macrosteatotic, graft-failure-risk was not significantly different between female-to-male LT and others (P > 0.60). These results were in agreement with the estrogen receptor immunohistochemistry evaluation of donor liver. In conclusion, we found that the inferiority of female-to-male LT was only found when donor was ≤ 40 years and non-macrosteatotic. Abrogation of the inferiority when donor was > 40 years or macrosteatotic suggests the presence of dominant contributors for post-transplant graft-failure other than graft quality/quantity and supports the role of hepatic-estrogen-signaling mismatch on graft-failure after female-to-male LT.

108. Is bone mineral density a prognostic factor in postmenopausal women with luminal A breast cancer?

Purpose Several studies are concerned about the association between bone mineral density (BMD) and the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women, but it is controversial. Therefore, we evaluated whether BMD might be a risk factor for recurrences, or metastases in menopausal luminal A breast cancer patients. Methods In this retrospective study, data of 348 patients with luminal A breast cancer who received treatment at Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital between 2012 and 2016 were analyzed. Patients were divided into two groups: normal BMD and low BMD including osteopenia or osteoporosis in preoperative examination. Patients were also divided into three groups according to BMD changes: no change in BMD; improvement in BMD, and deterioration in BMD. Events were defined as recurrence, occurrence of contralateral breast cancer, and metastasis to any other organ. Results Preoperative examination revealed normal BMD in 129 of 348 patients and low BMD in 219 patients. During a median follow-up period of 78 months, only 14 patients (4.0%) experienced recurrences, distant metastases, or occurrences of contralateral breast cancer. Five-year disease-free survival rate was 98.2% for 219 patients with low BMD and 95.0% for 129 patients with normal BMD (P=0.33). Disease-free survival at 5 years was 97.0% for the no change in the BMD group, 94.6% for the BMD improvement group, and 98.4% for the BMD deterioration group (P=0.79). Conclusion In this study, BMD had no statistically significant associations on recurrences, metastases, or incidences of contralateral breast cancer in postmenopausal patients with luminal A breast cancer.

Abstract We explored accumulated genomic alterations in patients with heavily treated HER2 + metastatic breast cancer enrolled in the KCSG BR18-14/KM10B trial. Targeted sequencing was performed with circulating tumor DNAs (ctDNAs) collected before the treatment of 92 patients. ctDNAs collected at the time of disease progression from seven patients who had a durable response for > 12 months were also analyzed. Sixty-five genes were identified as pathogenic alterations in 99 samples. The most frequently altered genes were TP53 (n = 48), PIKCA (n = 21) and ERBB3 (n = 19). TP53 and PIK3CA mutations were significantly related with shorter progression free survival (PFS), and patients with a higher ctDNA fraction showed a worse PFS. The frequency of homologous recombination deficiency (HRD)-related gene mutations was higher than that in matched tumor tissues, and these mutations tended to be associated with shorter PFS. New pathogenic variants were found at the end of treatment in all seven patients, including BRCA2, VHL, RAD50, RB1, BRIP1, ATM, FANCA, and PIK3CA mutations. In conclusion, TP53 and PIK3CA mutations, as well as a higher ctDNA fraction, were associated with worse PFS with trastuzumab and cytotoxic chemotherapy. The enrichment of HRD-related gene mutations and newly detected variants in ctDNA may be related to resistance to treatment.

110. Clinical feasibility of CS-VIBE accelerates MRI techniques in diagnosing intracranial metastasis

Abstract Our objective was to evaluate and compare the diagnostic performance of post-contrast 3D compressed-sensing volume-interpolated breath-hold examination (CS-VIBE) and 3D T1 magnetization-prepared rapid-acquisition gradient-echo (MPRAGE) in detecting intracranial metastasis. Additionally, we analyzed and compared the image quality between the two. We enrolled 164 cancer patients who underwent contrast-enhanced brain MRI. Two neuroradiologists independently reviewed all the images. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), contrast-to noise ratio (CNR) were compared between two sequences. For patients with intracranial metastasis, we measured enhancement degree and CNRlesion/parenchyma of the lesion. The overall image quality, motion artifact, gray-white matter discrimination and enhancing lesion conspicuity were analyzed. Both MPRAGE and CS-VIBE showed similar performance in diagnosing intracranial metastasis. Overall image quality of CS-VIBE was better with less motion artifact; however conventional MPRAGE was superior in enhancing lesion conspicuity. Overall, the SNR and CNR of conventional MPRAGE were higher than those of CS-VIBE. For 30 enhancing intracranial metastatic lesions, MPRAGE showed a lower CNR (p = 0.02) and contrast ratio (p = 0.03). MPRAGE and CS-VIBE were preferred in 11.6 and 13.4% of cases, respectively. In comparison with conventional MPRAGE, CS-VIBE achieved comparable image quality and visualization, with the scan time being half of that of MPRAGE.

111. Comparative mitogenome analyses of twelve non-biting flies and provide insights into the phylogeny of Chironomidae (Diptera: Culicomorpha)

Abstract The family Chironomidae is represented by seven subfamilies in China, among which Chironominae and Orthocladiinae are the most diverse. To gain a better understanding of the architecture and evolution of the mitogenomes of Chironomidae, we sequenced mitogenomes of twelve species (including two published species) of the two subfamilies Chironominae and Orthocladiinae, and comparative mitogenomic analyses were performed. Thus, we identified highly conserved genome organization of twelve species with regard to genome content, nucleotide and amino acid composition, codon usage, and gene characteristics. The K a /K s values of most protein-coding genes were far smaller than 1, indicating that these genes were evolving under purifying selection. Phylogenetic relationships between the family Chironomidae were reconstructed using 23 species representing six subfamilies, based on protein-coding genes and rRNAs using Bayesian Inference and Maximum Likelihood. Our results suggested the following relationship within the Chironomidae: (Podonominae + Tanypodinae) + (Diamesinae + (Prodiamesinae + (Orthocladiinae + Chironominae))). This study contributes to the mitogenomic database of Chironomidae, which will be significant for studing the mitogenome evolution of Chironomidae.

112. Radiological and clinical outcomes after Attune primary total knee arthroplasty using Stemmable Tibia: A two-year follow-up prospective bi-center study.

This prospective bi-center study aimed to analyze the outcomes of primary total knee arthroplasty using the Stemmable Tibia Attune system. A total of 100 patients who underwent primary total knee arthroplasty with Stemmable Tibia from January 2019 to December 2021 were enrolled in the study. Radiological outcomes (hip-knee-ankle axis and medial proximal tibial angle) were assessed preoperatively and postoperatively. Clinical outcomes (visual analog scale score, Hospital for Special Surgery score, Knee Society function score, Knee Society knee score, flexion contracture, further flexion, and range of motion) were analyzed preoperatively and at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years postoperatively. Complications (periprosthetic joint infection and aseptic loosening) were examined. The hip-knee-ankle axis decreased (preoperative: 9.5° ± 6.3°, postoperative: 1.1° ± 2.7°), whereas the medial proximal tibial angle increased (preoperative: 84.6° ± 4.1°, postoperative: 89.8° ± 1.9°). The visual analog scale score, Hospital for Special Surgery score, Knee Society knee score, and Knee Society function score increased postoperatively. The Knee Society knee score indicated above good outcomes (100.0% and 99.0% at 1 and 2 years postoperatively, respectively). The Knee Society function score also showed above good results (98.0% and 93.0% at 1 and 2 years postoperatively, respectively). The range of motion significantly improved (p < 0.001): flexion contracture decreased from 9.10° ± 7.23° to 2.15° ± 2.87°, whereas further flexion increased from 136.05° ± 14.78° to 139.80° ± 10.02°. One patient developed periprosthetic joint infection; no early loosening was observed. In conclusion, Attune primary total knee arthroplasty with Stemmable Tibia not only is safe and effective but also leads to radiological and clinical improvements.

With the slogan of national fitness and lifelong sports, more and more people are involved in sports activities, able to have one or two sports interests, stick to them for a long time, and develop lifelong exercise habits. With the emergence of the new sport of collegiate cricket, it has attracted more people to participate in it with its unique sporting appeal. High school sports, as the leader of national fitness, can play a good role as a catalyst for the development of board tennis in China because of the specificity of its group. In order to promote the reform of college physical education public curriculum, so that board tennis can also be a good enrichment of the sound college physical education public sports program. Based on the database and the G-DINA model, this paper uses bibliometric methods to analyze the current state of board tennis research in several dimensions. The cognitive diagnostic G-DINA model was applied to analyze tests, quantify students’ cognitive structure, and apply it to assist teachers in remedial instruction. The final results show that the research on collegiate netball, as an international emerging program, is currently in its initial development phase, and the research is “extensive” but not focused. It is also recommended to improve the quantity and quality of literature research, focus on the construction of scientific research teams; broaden the research perspective, and construct a horizontal and vertical theoretical research methodological system from 3 levels: microscopic, medium and macro.

Objectives: Prostate cancer (PC) is a leading cause of cancer-related death in males worldwide. Neuroendocrine differentiation (NED) is a feature of PC that often goes undetected and is associated with poor patient outcomes. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), microRNAs (miRNAs/miRs), and messenger RNAs (mRNAs) play important roles in the development and progression of PC. Methods: In this study, we used transcriptome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis to identify key regulators of NED in PC. Specifically, we examined the expression of PC-related lncRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs in PC cells and correlated these findings with NED phenotypes. Results: Our data revealed that metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) and zinc finger protein 91 (ZFP91) were upregulated in PC, while miR-216a-5p was down-regulated. Ectopic expression of MALAT1 induced NED and promoted malignant phenotypes of PC cells. Furthermore, we found that MALAT1 competitively bound to miR-216a-5p, upregulated ZFP91, and promoted the degradation of forkhead box A1 (FOXA1), a key gene involved in NED of PC. Conclusion: Taken together, these results suggest that MALAT1 plays an oncogenic role in NED and metastasis of PC via the miR-216a-5p/ZFP91/FOXA1 pathway. Our study highlights the potential of targeting this pathway as a novel therapeutic strategy for PC.

AimWhile the relationship between impaired kidney function and non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) is well established, there is limited research exploring the association between an elevated estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and the efficacy of NOACs, especially concerning the outcomes of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). This study aimed to examine the association between higher-than-normal eGFR and the severity of AIS during the use of NOACs using a nationwide multicenter stroke registry in Korea.Material and methodsThis study utilized data from the Korean Stroke Registry (KSR) database, examining information from 2,379 patients with AIS, who had atrial fibrillation (AF) and a history of utilizing NOACs prior to hospitalization due to incident stroke occurring between 2016 and 2021. Patients with a history involving two or more types of anticoagulants or one or more forms of antiplatelet agents were excluded. Baseline characteristics, medical history, medication usage, CHADS2-VASc score, and the anticoagulation and risk factors in atrial fibrillation (ATRIA) score were evaluated. Renal function was assessed using eGFR levels and calculated with the Cockcroft–Gault equation. The severity of stroke was measured by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale as an outcome. For sensitivity analysis, further evaluation was performed using eGFR levels according to the modification of diet in renal disease (MDRD) study equation.ResultsThe mean age of subjects was 76.1 ± 8.9 years. The moderate-to-severe stroke severity group exhibited an elevation in creatinine levels. The eGFR of 60 to 89 mL/min/1.73 m2 group was associated with a decreased risk of moderate-to-severe stroke severity [hazard ratio (HR)] (0.77, 95% confidence interval (CI) [0.61, 0.98], p = 0.031) compared to the eGFR≥90 mL/min/1.73 m2 group. An increment of 10 units in eGFR was marginally associated with an increased risk of moderate-to-severe stroke severity (HR: 1.03, 95% CI [1.00, 1.07], p = 0.054).ConclusionThe study revealed that individuals with eGFR ≥ 90 mL/min/1.73 m2 had an association linked to an increased risk of moderate-to-severe stroke severity. Our study suggests that patients taking NOACs with higher-than-normal eGFR levels may have an increased severity of AIS.

Summary: The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) consists of the nuclear envelope and a connected peripheral network of tubules and interspersed sheets. The structure of ER tubules is generated and maintained by various proteins, including reticulons, DP1/Yop1p, atlastins, and lunapark. Reticulons and DP1/Yop1p stabilize the high membrane curvature of ER tubules, and atlastins mediate homotypic membrane fusion between ER tubules; however, the exact role of lunapark remains poorly characterized. Here, using isolated yeast ER microsomes and reconstituted proteoliposomes, we directly examined the function of the yeast lunapark Lnp1p for yeast atlastin Sey1p-mediated ER fusion and found that Lnp1p inhibits Sey1p-driven membrane fusion. Furthermore, by using a newly developed assay for monitoring trans-Sey1p complex assembly, a prerequisite for ER fusion, we found that assembly of trans-Sey1p complexes was increased by the deletion of LNP1 and decreased by the overexpression of Lnp1p, indicating that Lnp1p inhibits Sey1p-mediated fusion by interfering with assembly of trans-Sey1p complexes.

Urban agriculture (UA) has been adopted as a strategy for food security in urban areas. This study identified the conditions for development of UA through a systematic review of UA case studies. It classified the enabling and constraining conditions within the three compositional elements of UA – necessity, ability, and opportunity – and determined the primary and secondary conditions for UA design by the country income group. The following conditions are required for both high-income and low/ middle-income countries: Motivation/public awareness; labour/human resources; policy and institutional infrastructure; social capital; and arable land and resources for farming. Agricultural education/training and research and technical development are needed for low and middle-income countries as the key secondary conditions. In high-income countries, a lack of farmers’ knowledge and urban development are the main challenges to UA implementation. Therefore, the research findings could be meaningful evidence for making decisions and designing UA policies for sustainable food production.

This study was to investigate the effects of different phytogenic feed additives (PFA) dosage levels in growing- finishing pigs stressed by high stocking density. A total of 72 mix sexed 12 weeks growing pigs ([Landrace × Yorkshire] × Duroc) with initial body weight (BW) of 49.28 ± 4.58 kg were used for 8 weeks. There were 3 replicate pens in each treatment group, with 3 pigs per pen. The dietary treatment groups consisted of basal diets in animal welfare density (negative control [NC]), basal diet in high stocking density (positive control [PC]), PC + 0.04% essential oil (ES1), PC + 0.08% essential oil (ES2), PC + 0.10% bitter citrus extract & essential oil (CES1), PC + 0.20% bitter citrus extract & essential oil (CES2), PC + 0.05% grape pomace extract (GP1), PC + 0.10% grape pomace extract (GP2). The reduction of space allowance decreased (p < 0.05) average daily gain, feed efficiency, and digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, and gross energy. Also, the fecal score of PC groups increased (p < 0.05) compared with other groups. Basic behaviors (feed intake, standing, lying) were inactive (p < 0.05) and singularity behavior (biting) was increased (p < 0.10) under high stocking density. There was no difference in blood profile. However, the supplementation of PFA alleviated the negative effects such as reduced growth performance, nutrient digestibility, and some increasing stress indicators in th blood (cortisol) and animal behavior (biting). In conclusion, the negative effect of high stocking density was most effectively mitigated by the normal dosage of the mixture of bitter citrus extract and essential oil additive (CES1).

Abstract Background Assisted reproductive technology (ART) has been widely used in the treatment of infertility, and is associated with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. However, the potential pathways by which ART affects adverse neonatal outcomes are unclear. We aimed to investigate the role of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) in the association between ART and adverse neonatal outcomes. Methods Adult women (aged ≥ 18 years) with a singleton pregnancy in the National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) 2020 were enrolled in this retrospective cohort study. Study outcomes were adverse neonatal outcomes, including premature birth, low birth weight, and admission to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Logistic regression models were utilized to investigate the association between ART, PIH, and adverse neonatal outcomes, expressed as odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). The distribution-of-the-product method was used to explore whether there was a mediating effect of PIH between ART and adverse neonatal outcomes, and the 95% CI of the distribution-of-the-product did not contain 0 indicating a mediating effect. Results This study included 2,824,418 women, of whom 35,020 (1.24%) women used ART, 239,588 (8.48%) women had PIH, and 424,741 (15.04%) neonates had any adverse neonatal outcomes. The use of ART was associated with higher odds of PIH (OR = 1.42; 95%CI: 1.37–1.46) and any adverse neonatal outcomes (OR = 1.47; 95%CI: 1.43–1.51). The distribution-of-the-product was 0.31 (95%CI: 0.28–0.34), and 8.51% of the association between ART and adverse neonatal outcomes was mediated through PIH. Among different adverse neonatal outcomes, PIH mediated 29.17% of the association between ART and low birth weight, 9.37% of the association between ART and premature birth, and 12.20% of the association between ART and NICU admission. Background/Aims Some sessile serrated lesions (SSLs) progress into dysplasia and colorectal cancer, however, the clinical and endoscopic characteristics of SSLs with dysplasia remain to be determined. In this study, we elucidated these characteristics in SSLs with dysplasia/carcinoma, compared with those of SSLs without dysplasia. Methods We retrospectively collected the clinical, endoscopic, and pathological data of 254 SSLs from 216 patients endoscopically resected between January 2009 and December 2020. Results All SSLs included 179 without dysplasia and 75 with dysplasia/carcinoma, including 55 with low-grade dysplasia, 10 with high-grade dysplasia, and 10 with submucosal cancer. In clinical characteristics, SSLs with dysplasia/carcinoma were significantly associated with advanced age, metabolic diseases, and high-risk adenomas. In endoscopic characteristics, SSLs with dysplasia/carcinoma were significantly associated with the distal colon, large size, polypoid morphology, surface-changes, no mucus cap, and narrow-band imaging international colorectal endoscopic classification (NICE) type 2/3. In the multivariate analysis, high-risk adenomas (odds ratio [OR], 2.98; p = 0.01), large size (OR, 1.18; p < 0.01), depression (OR, 11.74; p = 0.03), and NICE type 2/3 (OR, 14.97; p < 0.01) were significantly associated with SSLs with dysplasia/carcinoma. Conclusions SSLs had a higher risk of dysplasia in the distal colon than in the proximal colon. SSLs with large size, depression, and adenomatous surface-patterns, as well as those in patients with high-risk adenomas, increased the risk of dysplasia/carcinoma. This suggests that the clinical and endoscopic characteristics can aid in the diagnosis and management of SSLs with dysplasia/carcinoma.

This study aims to evaluate landslide susceptibility and explain the internal mechanism of gentle hill-valley through SHAP partial interpretation and PDP partial dependency map based on the random forest-recursive feature elimination model to provide references for geological disaster prevention and control. We used the optimized random forest algorithm to analyze the landslide susceptibility of the specific hill-valley areas and established a landslide susceptibility evaluation model. The recursive feature elimination algorithm was used to eliminate noise factors. Sixteen factors of four types, including terrain, geology, environmental conditions, and human activities, were selected to build a landslide hazard factor database for the Hechuan district. Then we combined 754 historical landslide sites in the Hechuan district with the factor database to derive a landslide susceptibility zoning map for the study area, and the factor importance was ranked using the random forest algorithm. Finally, a partial dependency plot is applied to explain the factors strongly influencing landslide occurrence in the Hechuan district and the SHAP algorithm for a local explanation of individual landslides. The results show that: compared with the original model, the AUC value of the test set of the random forest-recursive feature elimination model has increased by 0.019, demonstrating the effectiveness of the recursive feature elimination algorithm. According to the evaluation results of the random forest model, the AUC values of the training set and the test set are 0.769 and 0.755, respectively, with high prediction accuracy. The density is high in areas with large undulations, and historical landslides are concentrated in high-susceptibility areas. The spatial distribution of landslides is uneven and complex, and the influence of each hazard factor on landslide occurrence has prominent regional characteristics and spatial heterogeneity. In hill-valley areas, the average annual rainfall, elevation, and lithology are the most critical factors affecting landslide occurrence. According to the local interpretation map of SHAP, the landslide on the uphill road of Baitaping is explained. The lithology and elevation played a role in restraining the landslide, and the undulation, slope, NDVI, and POI kernel density promoted the landslide. In summary, the random forest-recursive feature elimination model has high accuracy in landslide susceptibility evaluation in the hill-valley areas. The interpretation and analysis of the internal mechanism of the regional landslides and individual landslides through PDP and SHAP interpretation algorithms are conducive to constructing and improving the evaluation factor system for landslide susceptibility under different geomorphic environments. The internal decision-making mechanism of landslides is explored; it can provide a reference for the regional landslide susceptibility assessment and geological disaster prevention.

Background: Euonymus alatus (Thunb.) Siebold (EA) is a medicinal plant used in some Asian countries to treat various diseases, including cancer, hyperglycemia, diabetes, urticaria, dysmenorrhea, and arthritis. Owing to the wide range of pharmacological applications of EA, various roles of EA are being studied. Objective: We evaluated the immune-enhancing effect of EA treatment in a cyclophosphamide (Cy)-induced immunosuppressed rat model. Design: We analyzed the immune enhancement effect of EA on macrophages by western blotting. In addition, cell viability and natural killer (NK) cell activity were analyzed in splenocytes following EA treatment. For in vivo studies, analysis of weekly body weight, spleen weight, immune cell count, cytokine levels, and spleen histological findings was performed following EA administration in Cy-induced immunocompromised rats. Results: EA significantly increased cell viability and phospho-nuclear factor-kappa B and phospho-extracellular signal-regulated kinase protein levels in the macrophages. EA significantly increased NK cell activity in splenocytes compared with the control group. In Cy-induced immunosuppressed rats, EA administration increased spleen tissue weight and the contents of leukocytes, lymphocytes, granulocytes, intermediate cells, and plasma cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-α and interferon-γ). In addition, improvement in the damaged spleen tissue was observed. Conclusions: These findings confirm that EA exerts an immune-enhancing effect, thereby suggesting its potential as an immunostimulatory agent or functional food.

Abstract Background Toxicokinetics of nanomaterials, including studies on the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination of nanomaterials, are essential in assessing their potential health effects. The fate of nanomaterials after inhalation exposure to multiple nanomaterials is not clearly understood. Methods Male Sprague–Dawley rats were exposed to similar sizes of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs, 10.86 nm) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs, 10.82 nm) for 28 days (6-h/day, 5-days/week for four weeks) either with separate NP inhalation exposures or with combined co-exposure in a nose-only inhalation system. Mass concentrations sampled from the breathing zone were AuNP 19.34 ± 2.55 μg/m3 and AgNP 17.38 ± 1.88 μg/m3 for separate exposure and AuNP 8.20 μg/m3 and AgNP 8.99 μg/m3 for co-exposure. Lung retention and clearance were previously determined on day 1 (6-h) of exposure (E-1) and on post-exposure days 1, 7, and 28 (PEO-1, PEO-7, and PEO-28, respectively). In addition, the fate of nanoparticles, including translocation and elimination from the lung to the major organs, were determined during the post-exposure observation period. Results AuNP was translocated to the extrapulmonary organs, including the liver, kidney, spleen, testis, epididymis, olfactory bulb, hilar and brachial lymph nodes, and brain after subacute inhalation and showed biopersistence regardless of AuNP single exposure or AuNP + AgNP co-exposure, showing similar elimination half-time. In contrast, Ag was translocated to the tissues and rapidly eliminated from the tissues regardless of AuNP co-exposure. Ag was continually accumulated in the olfactory bulb and brain and persistent until PEO-28. Conclusion Our co-exposure study of AuNP and AgNP indicated that soluble AgNP and insoluble AuNP translocated differently, showing soluble AgNP could be dissolved into Ag ion to translocate to the extrapulmonary organs and rapidly removed from most organs except the brain and olfactory bulb. Insoluble AuNPs were continually translocated to the extrapulmonary organs, and they were not eliminated rapidly.

131. Association between exercise habit changes and incident dementia after ischemic stroke

Abstract We aimed to investigate the effects of exercise habit changes on the risk of incident dementia after ischemic stroke using the Korean National Health Insurance Services Database. This study included 223,426 patients with a new diagnosis of ischemic stroke between 2010 and 2016 who underwent two serial ambulatory health checkups. The participants were divided into four categories according to their habit change or regular exercise: persistent non-exercisers, new exercisers, exercise dropouts, and exercise maintainers. The primary outcome was new diagnosis of dementia. Multivariate Cox proportional models were used to assess the effects of changes in exercise habits on the risk of incident dementia. After a median of 4.02 years of follow-up, 22,554 (10.09%) dementia cases were observed. After adjusting for covariates, exercise dropouts, new exercisers, and exercise maintainers were significantly associated with a lower risk of incident dementia than persistent non-exercisers (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] 0.937; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.905–0.970, aHR 0.876; 95% CI 0.843–0.909, aHR 0.705; 95% CI 0.677–0.734, respectively). The impact of changes in exercise habit was more prominent in the 40–65 years age group. An energy expenditure ≥ 1000 metabolic equivalents of task-min/wk post-stroke, regardless of pre-stroke physical activity status, was mostly associated with a lower risk of each outcome. In this retrospective cohort study, initiating or continuing moderate-to-vigorous exercise after ischemic stroke was associated with a lower risk of dementia development. Further, pre-stroke regular physical activity also reduced the risk of incident dementia. The promotion of exercise in ambulatory stroke patients may reduce their future risk of incident dementia.

Objective: This study investigated the association of circulating levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) with the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components in adults. Methods: This nationwide cohort involved 23,810 Chinese adults attending annual health evaluations. Serum 25(OH)D levels, MetS status, and covariates were determined at each examination. Among them, 8146, 3310, and 1971 completed two, three, and more than three evaluations, respectively. A hybrid mixed-effects and Cox regression model was employed to determine the cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships. Results: The odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of MetS were significantly lower in individuals within quartile 4 (vs. 1) of serum 25(OH)D for both between-individual (0.43 [0.35, 0.52]) and within-individual comparisons (0.60 [0.50, 0.73]), respectively (all p-trends < 0.001). Among the MetS components, the corresponding ORs (95% CI) in between- and within-individual comparisons were 0.40 (0.29, 0.54) and 0.26 (0.19, 0.36) for abdominal obesity, 0.49 (0.41, 0.58) and 0.78 (0.66, 0.93) for high triglycerides, 0.70 (0.59, 0.82) and 0.75 (0.64, 0.87) for hypertriglyceridemia, 0.48 (0.39, 0.59) and 0.87 (0.71, 1.07) for low HDL cholesterol, and 0.92 (0.76, 1.12) and 0.49 (0.41, 0.59) for hypertension, respectively. Decreased hazard ratios (95% CIs) in quartile 4 (vs. 1) of 25(OH)D were found for MetS (0.80 [0.65, 1.00]), high triglycerides (0.76 [0.62, 0.92]), abdominal obesity (0.77 [0.63, 0.96]), and low HDL cholesterol (0.64 [0.50, 0.81]). Conclusions: Decreased concentrations of serum 25(OH)D correlate significantly to a heightened MetS risk and specific components. Our findings underscore the potential preventive function of circulating vitamin D concerning metabolic disorders.

Background/Aim: Tooth avulsion and delayed replantation may cause inflammatory responses and root resorption of the tooth. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of a doxycycline-loaded nitric oxide-releasing nanomatrix (DN) gel on the delayed replantation of avulsed rat teeth, with a focus on assessing the gel’s potential to promote regeneration and inhibit complications associated with the replantation process. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four right maxillary first molars from male Sprague-Dawley rats were atraumatically extracted using sterile extraction forceps. The molars were dried for 1 h at room temperature (approximately 23 °C) and divided into four groups according to the root conditioning methods after extra-alveolar 60-min drying: Group 1, no root conditioning treatment prior to replantation; Group 2, soaking in 2% NaF solution for 5 min before replantation; Group 3, 5-min soaking in NO gel and injection of the gel into the alveolar socket; Group 4, 5-min soaking in DN gel and injection of the gel into the alveolar socket before replantation. The animals were euthanized four weeks after the operation and the specimens were evaluated histologically. Results: The use of NO gel alone showed better anti-inflammatory and periodontal effects than the control group, but it did not show a significant effect compared to the group using NaF. When using NO gel loaded with doxycycline, it showed a significant anti-inflammatory effect compared to the control group and showed a similar inhibitory effect to the group using NaF. Conclusions: Within the limits of this study, in delayed replantation situations, the control of inflammatory resorption and replacement resorption is an important factor for achieving a better prognosis of replanted teeth. 134. Serious Safety Signals and Prediction Features Following COVID-19 mRNA Vaccines Using the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System

We aimed to analyze the characteristics of serious adverse events following immunizations (AEFIs) to identify potential safety information and prediction features. We screened the individual case safety reports (ICSRs) in adults who received mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines using the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System until December 2021. We identified the demographic and clinical characteristics of ICSRs and performed signal detection. We developed prediction models for serious AEFIs and identified the prognostic features using logistic regression. Serious ICSRs and serious AEFIs were 51,498 and 271,444, respectively. Hypertension was the most common comorbidity (22%). Signal detection indicated that the reporting odds ratio of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) was more than 10 times. Those who had experienced myocardial infarction (MI) were 5.7 times more likely to suffer from MI as an AEFI (95% CI 5.28–6.71). Moreover, patients who had atrial fibrillation (AF), acute kidney injury (AKI), cardiovascular accident (CVA), or pulmonary embolism (PE) were 7.02 times, 39.09 times, 6.03 times, or 3.97 times more likely to suffer from each AEFI, respectively. Our study suggests that vaccine recipients who had experienced MI, AF, AKI, CVA, or PE could require further evaluation and careful monitoring to prevent those serious AEFIs.

Background and Aims: HCG was the standard trigger of final oocyte maturation in IVF cycles. An alternative trigger with gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) was effective in reducing OHSS. But GnRH-a trigger induced increased luteal insufficiency and cycle cancellation. A dual trigger (HCG with GnRH-a) was introduced to reduce OHSS, luteal insufficiency and cycle cancellation. This study was designed to compare the effect of dual trigger on final oocyte maturation n embryo quality with conventional HCG trigger and GnRH-a trigger. Method: We conducted this retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent IVF antagonist cycles from Jan. 2020 to Dec. 2022. Patients undergoing their oocyte retrieval 36 hours after trigger with only HCG 10,000 units, or only leuprolide acetate 40 units, or a dual trigger of HCG 5000 units with leuprolide acetate 40 units. Male factor infertility and oocyte donor cycle were excluded. The main outcomes were retrieved mature oocyte rate and fertilization rate. Secondary outcomes include implantation rate and pregnancy rate. Results: Total 3266 patients were included. Dual trigger was in 2279, GnRH-a in 282 and HCG in 705 cycles. 137. Recalls of tattoo and permanent makeup inks in the United States and a follow-up microbiological survey of inks with a previous recall history

In this study, we collected voluntary recall records of tattoo and permanent makeup ink from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) Enforcement Report Database. The recall records contain information, such as recall date, manufacturer, ink color, reason for recall, and the microorganisms detected from the ink samples. Between 2003 and 2021, a total of 15 voluntary tattoo ink recalls occurred in the U.S. market, involving over 200 tattoo inks marketed by 13 manufacturers and one distributor. Fourteen recalls were due to microbial contamination, and one recall was due to allergic reaction. As follow-up, a microbiological survey of 28 tattoo inks of new batches from seven manufacturers having products that were previously recalled was conducted. Aerobic plate count (APC) and enrichment culture methods based on the FDA’s Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM) were used to detect microbial contamination. The results revealed that six out of 28 tattoo inks were contaminated with bacteria and were produced by two manufacturers. The level of microbial contamination was less than 250 CFU/g in three of the tattoo inks and between 1 × 103 and 1 × 105 CFU/g in the other three inks. Eleven bacterial isolates were identified, including spore-forming Bacillus-related species and potentially pathogenic species. Overall, this study shows that some tattoo ink products produced by manufacturers with a recall history continue to be contaminated with microorganisms. This highlights the need for ongoing monitoring and quality control of such products.

ObjectivesMore than half of patients with acute ischemic stroke develop post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI), a significant barrier to future neurological recovery. Thus, predicting cognitive trajectories post-AIS is crucial. Our primary objective is to determine whether brain network properties from electroencephalography (EEG) can predict post-stroke cognitive function using machine learning approach.MethodsWe enrolled consecutive stroke patients who underwent both EEG during the acute stroke phase and cognitive assessments 3 months post-stroke. We preprocessed acute stroke EEG data to eliminate low-quality epochs, then performed independent component analysis and quantified network characteristics using iSyncBrain®. Cognitive function was evaluated using the Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA). We initially categorized participants based on the lateralization of their lesions and then developed machine learning models to predict cognitive status in the left and right hemisphere lesion groups.ResultsEighty-seven patients were included, and the accuracy of lesion laterality prediction using EEG attributes was 97.0%. In the left hemispheric lesion group, the network attributes of the theta band were significantly correlated with MoCA scores, and higher global efficiency, clustering coefficient, and lower characteristic path length were associated with higher MoCA scores. Most features related to cognitive scores were selected from the frontal lobe. The predictive powers (R-squared) were 0.76 and 0.65 for the left and right stroke groups, respectively.ConclusionEstimating EEG-based network properties in the acute phase of ischemic stroke through a machine learning model has a potential to predict cognitive outcomes after ischemic stroke.

Background: Pseudotyped virus systems that incorporate viral proteins have been widely employed for the rapid determination of the effectiveness and neutralizing activity of drug and vaccine candidates in biosafety level 2 facilities. We report an efficient method for producing severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pseudovirus with dual luciferase and fluorescent protein reporters. Moreover, using the established method, we also aimed to investigate whether Korean Red Ginseng (KRG), a valuable Korean herbal medicine, can attenuate infectivity of the pseudotyped virus. Methods: A pseudovirus of SARS-CoV-2 (SARS-2pv) was constructed and efficiently produced using lentivirus vector systems available in the public domain by the introduction of critical mutations in the cytoplasmic tail of the spike protein. KRG extract was dose-dependently treated to Calu-3 cells during SARS2-pv treatment to evaluate the protective activity against SARS-CoV-2. Results: The use of Calu-3 cells or the expression of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) in HEK293T cells enabled SARS-2pv infection of host cells. Coexpression of transmembrane protease serine subtype 2 (TMPRSS2), which is the activator of spike protein, with ACE2 dramatically elevated luciferase activity, confirming the importance of the TMPRSS2-mediated pathway during SARS-CoV-2 entry. Our pseudovirus assay also revealed that KRG elicited resistance to SARS-CoV-2 infection in lung cells, suggesting its beneficial health effect. Conclusion: The method demonstrated the production of SARS-2pv for the analysis of vaccine or drug candidates. When KRG was assessed by the method, it protected host cells from coronavirus infection. Further studies will be followed for demonstrating this potential benefit.

Background/Aims To identify changes in symptoms and pulmonary sequelae in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods Patients with COVID-19 hospitalized at seven university hospitals in Korea between February 2020 and February 2021 were enrolled, provided they had ≥ 1 outpatient follow-up visit. Between January 11 and March 9, 2021 (study period), residual symptom investigations, chest computed tomography (CT) scans, pulmonary function tests (PFT), and neutralizing antibody tests (NAb) were performed at the outpatient visit (cross-sectional design). Additionally, data from patients who already had follow-up outpatient visits before the study period were collected retrospectively. Results Investigation of residual symptoms, chest CT scans, PFT, and NAb were performed in 84, 35, 31, and 27 patients, respectively. After 6 months, chest discomfort and dyspnea persisted in 26.7% (4/15) and 33.3% (5/15) patients, respectively, and 40.0% (6/15) and 26.7% (4/15) patients experienced financial loss and emotional distress, respectively. When the ratio of later CT score to previous ones was calculated for each patient between three different time intervals (1–14, 15–60, and 61–365 days), the median values were 0.65 (the second interval to the first), 0.39 (the third to the second), and 0.20 (the third to the first), indicating that CT score decreases with time. In the high-severity group, the ratio was lower than in the low-severity group. Conclusions In COVID-19 survivors, chest CT score recovers over time, but recovery is slower in severely ill patients. Subjects complained of various ongoing symptoms and socioeconomic problems for several months after recovery.

Objectives/Hypothesis To investigate the clinical significance of three-dimensional-fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (3D-FLAIR) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in patients with Ramsay-Hunt syndrome (RHS). Study Design Case series. Methods We enrolled 28 consecutive patients of RHS with temporal bone MRI. Initial clinical findings and outcome were assessed by House-Brackmann (HB) scales, electroneuronography (ENoG), and pure tone audiometry (PTA). Two radiologists evaluated the presence of abnormalities on pre-/postcontrast 3D-FLAIR for the cranial nerve (CN)-VII, CN-VIII, inner ear (IE), and the posterior fossa by consensus. The relative signal intensity and enhancement degree (rED) of the structures were measured using ImageJ (http://rsbweb.nih.gov/ij/). Statistical test correlated the clinical symptoms and the outcome with the analysis results of 3D-FLAIR images. Results 3D-FLAIR demonstrated enhancement of CN-VII in all patients. Soil washing, ex situ mechanical technique, is one of the few permanent treatment alternatives to remove metal contaminants from soils by employing physical separation based on mineral processing technologies to remove discrete particles or metal-bearing particles and/or chemical extraction based on leaching or dissolving process to extract the metals from the soils into an aqueous solution. However, washwater remained from soil washing process contains discrete particulate particles along with heavy metals as solution phase to be treated separately, as well as this process can produce large amount of sludge that requires further treatment, slow metal precipitation, poor settling, the aggregation of metal precipitates. Electrical treatments including electrocoagulation and electrolysis can be effective in removing these substances from washwater. This paper reviews the theoretical models in applying electrocoagulation and electrolysis to remove heavy metals and discrete particulate particles in washwater by examining and comparing the status of washwater treatment technologies which have been undertaken, mostly in the US and EU for the period 1990-2012.

Water, methanol and ethanol extracts of Evodia rutaecarpa were tested for antinociceptive activity, which were correlated with the contents of evodiamine, rutaecarpine and evodine. Determination of contents was achieved by chromatographic techniques. Extracts were evaluated for antinociceptive activities using hot-plate test; acetic acid-induced writhing test and formalin test. All three extracts of Evodia rutaecarpa showed antinociceptive activities but the ethanol extract exhibited better effect. The better antinociceptive activity appeared to be related to higher contents of evodiamine, rutaecarpine and evodine in ethanol extract of Evodia rutaecarpa.

Abstract Background To investigate posture-induced changes in intraocular pressure (IOP) after ab externo XEN45 Gel-Stent implantation in patients with medically uncontrolled primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Methods This prospective study included thirty-two eyes with POAG that underwent XEN45 Gel-Stent implantation as a standalone procedure using an ab externo approach at Chonnam National University Hospital. IOP was measured sequentially in the sitting position, supine position, and lateral decubitus position (LDP) before and at 1, 2, 3, and 6 months after surgery using an iCare IC200 rebound tonometer. In the LDP, the eye with XEN45 Gel-Stent implantation was in the dependent position. Results IOP at each position was significantly reduced after XEN45 Gel-Stent implantation. Posture-induced changes in IOP were maintained during the follow-up. The range of postural IOP changes was reduced at 1 month; however, no significant change was observed after that point compared with baseline levels. Conclusions A XEN45 Gel-Stent inserted using the ab externo approach can reduce IOP in various body positions, but seems to have limited effects on posture-induced changes in IOP in patients with POAG.

148. Risk of dementia according to the smoking habit change after ischemic stroke: a nationwide population-based cohort study

Abstract There is a paucity of research regarding the association between the risk of incident dementia and changes in smoking habits in the acute ischemic stroke population. We aimed to investigate the effects of smoking habit change on the risk of incident dementia in an ischemic stroke population using data from the Korean National Health Insurance Services Database. This nationwide population-based cohort study included 197,853 patients with ischemic stroke. The patients were divided into never smokers, former smokers, smoking quitters, sustained smokers, and new smokers, based on the 2-year change in smoking status between the two consecutive health examinations before and after the index stroke. The patients were followed up from the index date to 2018 to assess the development of dementia. Dementia was further categorized into Alzheimer’s, vascular, and other types of dementia according to the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision diagnosis. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to assess the association between changes in smoking habits and the risk of dementia. After a median of 4.04 years of follow-up, 19,595 (9.9%) dementia cases were observed. Among them, 15,189 (7.7%) were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease dementia and 2719 (1.4%) were diagnosed with vascular dementia. After adjusting for covariates, including age, sex, alcohol intake habits, cigarette pack-year, regular physical activity, income, history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and chronic kidney disease, new smokers, sustained smokers, and smoking quitters were significantly associated with a higher risk of all-cause dementia than never smokers (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] 1.395, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.254–1.552; aHR 1.324, 95% CI 1.236–1.418; and aHR 1.170, 95% CI 1.074–1.275, respectively). Similar trends were observed for both Alzheimer’s dementia and vascular dementia, but the association between new smokers and vascular dementia was not significant. The impact of smoking habit change was more prominent in the 40–65-year-old group. New and sustained smokers had a substantially higher risk of incident dementia after ischemic stroke than never smokers. Smoking quitters also had an elevated risk of incident dementia, but the detrimental effects were lower than those in new and sustained smokers.

Abstract We aimed to evaluate the agreement in the diagnosis of intracranial lesions between conventional pre-contrast 3D T1 magnetization-prepared rapid gradient echo (MPRAGE) and wave-CAIPI (wave-controlled aliasing in parallel imaging) MPRAGE. Institutional review board approval was obtained and informed consent was waived for this retrospective study. We included 149 consecutive patients who had undergone brain MR with both conventional MPRAGE (scan time: 5 min 42 s) and wave-CAIPI MPRAGE (scan time: 2 min 44 s) from February to June 2018. All images were independently reviewed by two radiologists for the diagnosis of intracranial lesion and scored image quality using visual analysis. One technician measured signal-to-noise ratio. The agreement for diagnosis of intracranial lesion was calculated, and the intra- and interobserver agreements were analyzed by using kappa value. For the diagnosis of intracranial lesion, the conventional and wave-CAIPI MPRAGE demonstrated 99.7% of agreement (297 of 298) in the pooled analysis with very good agreement (k = 0.994). Abstract Background Migraine is one of the most common primary headache disorders and a well-known risk factor for cardiovascular disorders. We aimed to investigate the association between migraine and major cardiovascular outcomes, including myocardial infarction (MI), ischemic stroke (IS), and cardiovascular death (CVD) in people with type 2 diabetes. Research design and methods A total of 2,229,598 people from the nationwide Korean National Health Insurance Service database with type 2 diabetes but without a previous history of MI and IS were included in this study. We identified patients over 20 years of age with migraine using the claim data of International Statistical Classification of Diseases Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) code G43. The patients with migraine were divided according to their migraine aura status. Results Migraine was present in 6.3% of the study population. Cases observed for MI, IS, CVD, and all-cause death were 2.6%, 3.6%, 5.9%, and 7.9%, respectively. The diagnosis of migraine was significantly associated with an increased risk of MI, IS, and CVD. The results remained significant after adjusting for covariates, including age, sex, body mass index, alcohol intake, smoking habits, physical activity, economic status, hypertension history, dyslipidemia, and duration of type 2 diabetes (MI, adjusted hazard ratio [aHR]: 1.182, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.146–1.219; IS, aHR: 1.111, 95% CI 1.082–1.14; CVD, aHR: 1.143, 95% CI 1.12–1.167). In particular, the presence of aura was associated with a higher risk of MI development compared to the non-aura group. The difference became more prominent with progressing age. Conclusions In this nationwide population-based study, people with type 2 diabetes and migraines were found to be at a significantly higher risk for major cardiovascular events, including MI, IS, and CVD. The risk of MI and CVD significantly increased with the presence of aura symptoms among patients with migraine.
