Farabi's Kiitab Alhoroof is the first direct philosophical encounter of a Muslim thinker with Greek philosophical thought. Discussions on the analysis of the concepts of "existence-existent" and " Essence " as the main elements of Aristotle's philosophical thought are among the most important parts of this book. Farabi's purpose in writing this book is to lay the groundwork for a fundamental understanding of Greek philosophical thought in the Islamic world. He begins the discussion with the linguistic analysis of "existent" as a non-derivative word (first example) in Arabic and proposes three meanings (“Categories” and “Truthful” and “Individual external thing by essence) for "existent." He combines three meanings into two meanings and focuses on the third meaning (Individual external thing by essence). Al-Farabi tries to offer a way to justify the multiplicity of beings in the universe by proposing categories for the third meaning of "existence" and "essence" as identifiers of external and mental beings, while emphasizing the external union of "existence" and "essence"; Accordance to the author's view, this way is incoherent without assuming the discussion of the "metaphysical distinction of existence from essence"; Farabi's argument on dividing the existence into rich and poor and designing the concept of (Individual mental thing by essence) in contrast to the concept of "no existence" does not seem understandable except by assuming the metaphysical distinction of existence and essence. His plan paves the way for designing the rules of ontological distinction of "existence" from "essence" are prepared by Ibn Sina.

In this article, tin oxide nanoparticles were prepared by hydrothermal method and then deposited on fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) glass by Dr. Blade method and dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) was fabricated with tin oxide photoanode. To improve cell efficiency, the prepared photoanode was doped with titanium and the effect of Ti doping on physical properties and performance of DSSCs were investigated. The physical properties of the synthesized nanostructures were investigated by XRD, SEM, BET, and DRS analyses. Finally, DSSC solar cells were constructed from prepared photoanodes and current-voltage analysis was performed. The results showed that Ti doping affects the adsorption-desorption isotherm of the sample and increases the specific surface area significantly. Thus, specific surface area has increased from 36.23 m2/g for the SnO2 sample to 508.13 m2/g for the Ti doped sample. The results showed that the DSSC made with doped photoanode showed much better performance and titanium doping increased both the short circuit current and open circuit voltage. The titanium doped sample showed an increase in efficiency of about 2 times compared to the pure SnO2 photoanode.

Background: ChatGPT's (Chat Generative Pre‐Trained Transformer) remarkable capacity to generate human‐like output makes it an appealing learning tool for healthcare students worldwide. Nevertheless, the chatbot's responses may be subject to inaccuracies, putting forth an intense risk of misinformation. ChatGPT's capabilities should be examined in every corner of healthcare education, including dentistry and its specialties, to understand the potential of misinformation associated with the chatbot's use as a learning tool. Our investigation aims to explore ChatGPT's foundation of knowledge in the field of periodontology by evaluating the chatbot's performance on questions obtained from an in‐service examination administered by the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP). Methods: ChatGPT3.5 and ChatGPT4 were evaluated on 311 multiple‐choice questions obtained from the 2023 in‐service examination administered by the AAP. The dataset of in‐service examination questions was accessed through Nova Southeastern University's Department of Periodontology. Our study excluded questions containing an image as ChatGPT does not accept image inputs. Results: ChatGPT3.5 and ChatGPT4 answered 57.9% and 73.6% of in‐service questions correctly on the 2023 Periodontics In‐Service Written Examination, respectively. A two‐tailed t test was incorporated to compare independent sample means, and sample proportions were compared using a two‐tailed χ2 test. A p value below the threshold of 0.05 was deemed statistically significant. Conclusion: While ChatGPT4 showed a higher proficiency compared to ChatGPT3.5, both chatbot models leave considerable room for misinformation with their responses relating to periodontology. Introduction: Mortality decreases following bariatric surgery. We explored the extent of the reduction and whether or not it reaches the general population level in a large cohort of patients with obesity. This study aimed to compare all-cause mortality between patients with obesity who undergo bariatric surgery and those who do not, with the general Iranian population during the same period. Method: Data from Iran's National Obesity Surgery Database were used to establish a large cohort of patients registered between 2009 and 2019. The current vital status of the patients was determined by utilizing post-surgery follow-up data for those who underwent the operation. For patients without a surgery record, a predefined checklist was filled out through telephone interviews. Death data from the National General Registrar's office were obtained for all cohort members. Results: Of 13,313 cohort members, 12,915 were eligible for analysis. The median age at the first visit was 38 years, and 78% were women. 6,190 patients (47.9%) underwent bariatric surgery, and 6,725 patients (52.1%) were not yet operated on at the time of analysis. We observed 139 deaths during 53,880 person-years follow-ups. The median follow-ups for operated-on and not operated-on groups were 4 and 4.8 years. The mortality rates among nonoperated patients were 2.89 times higher (standardized mortality ratio [SMR] = 2.89, 95% CI: 2.36–3.53) than those in the general population, while in operated patients, the mortality rate decreased to 1.82 as high (SMR = 1.82, 95% CI: 1.34–2.46). Background: One-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) is gaining more attention in patients with severe obesity and recently is used for patients with body mass index (BMI) < 35 kg/m2. In this 5-year single center experience we aim to report our outcomes of using OAGB for patients with BMI < 35 kg/m2. Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data recorded in to our national obesity registry database. Variables including age, sex, weight, BMI, any associated disease, blood levels of metabolic markers, nutrients, and vitamins before and after surgery were extracted and analyzed. Results: 173 patients with mean age and BMI of 41 ± 10 years and 33 ± 1 kg/m2 underwent OAGB and at least one of the obesity-associated medical problems was found in 88 (50.5%) of them preoperatively. The mean duration of surgery and length of hospital stay were 60.7 ± 7.4 min and 1.3 ± 1.4 days. 78% and 70% of patients had available data at 24 and 60 months, respectively. The mean BMI was 23.9 ± 2.2 kg/m2 1 year after surgery and each year after that till 5 years was 24 ± 2, 24.4 ± 2.6, 25.1 ± 2.7, and 25.5 ± 2.7 kg/m2. Significant improvement in levels of fasting blood glucose, lipid profile, and liver enzymes were observed. Conclusion: OAGB for BMI < 35 kg/m2 has significant effects in weight loss, helps remit diabetes and hypertension in the majority of cases, improves lipid profile, and has no increased burden of postoperative problems or deficiency in nutritional factors rather than what is known and predictable. Increasingly, the melting of Arctic ice due to global warming has provided opportunities for commercial shipping between Asia and Europe. Given the vulnerability of the Arctic environment, especially due to emissions of short-lived pollutants from shipping activities, a more effective propulsion system with a comprehensive control strategy is required to reduce fuel consumption, thus potentially mitigating the impacts of shipping activities on the northern sea route (NSR). In this paper, a shipboard DC hybrid system powered by a combination of diesel generator sets and batteries is proposed and analysed in terms of its application on a ship in the NSR. The specific fuel consumption and various losses in the power sources were analysed to develop an efficiency-optimisation control strategy for the proposed DC hybrid power system. To evaluate the performance of the hybrid power system with the proposed optimisation control strategy, lab-scale experiments have been conducted in the Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute to compare the proposed system with a conventional hybrid system. The experimental results indicate that the proposed DC hybrid power plant with the energy optimisation control contributes a 5.35% fuel saving compared with the DC fixed-speed diesel electric configuration during a scaled-down NSR scenario.

Introduction: Bariatric surgery may lead to unsatisfactory weight loss, weight loss plateau, and even weight regain after various types of surgery. Despite the numerous studies, the mid-term results of surgery, after repetitive weight fluctuations remains a major concern. The aim of the present study was to determine the key time points of weight changes after three types of bariatric procedures, as well as to determine five-year weight loss outcome after surgery. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study including patients with morbid obesity conducted in the Minimally Invasive Surgery Research Center. The patients underwent one of the three types of bariatric surgeries including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), and one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB), who had been followed up for weight loss trend during five years postoperatively. Results: The mean %EWL and TWL% of 2567 participants with obesity (mean age=39.03, mean BMI=45.67) in the first six months after surgery was independent of the type of surgery (P>0.05). AbstractSufism in relation to culture and civilization is one of the controversial issues among contemporary researchers. In this paper, after presenting the current controversial ideas on this topic in Iran and the key role of Sufis in the development of thoughts, culture, and Islamic civilization as well as condidering the manifestations of the new civilization and concepts in Iran in the Qajar era, the authors of the present paper discussed Sufi masters’ approach towards the culture and new civilization, as well as their related issues, which could be helpful in perceiving the relation between Sufism, culture, and civilization. Thus, in the current paper, the socio-cultural viewpoints of Nur Alishah Gunabadi as one of the great Sufi masters of Nimatullahi Sufi Order in Qajar era about the culture and new civilization, along with their related matters, were investigated. The researchers also pointed out some views of Sultan Alishah, who was Nur Alishah Gunabadi’s father and Sufi predecessor. Moreover, since Nimatollahi Sufi Order, which is one of the important Sufi orders with a strong background, has played an important role in Iran’s social circumstances in Qajar era, the researchers, for the first time, investigated the role of culture and new civilization based on the socio-cultural views of Hajj Mulla Ali Gunabadi known as Nur Alishah (A.H.L.1284-1337/A.D.1867-1918), one of the great Sufi masters of Nimatollahi Sufi Order. Since Hajj Mulla Ali Gunabadi was the son and Sufi successor of Hajj Mulla Sultan Mohammad Beidokhti known as Sultan Alishah (A.H.L.1251-1327/A.D.1835-1909), as well as the renewer of Nimatollahi Sufi Order, who was raised in his Sufi order, the researchers mention some of his juridical views as well. Materials & MethodsThe present study is a library research based on the main data in the library resources. Some of Hajj Mulla Ali’s manuscripts on socio-cultural issues in Qajar era were used in this regard. The current research used a descriptive-analytical method with reference to historical texts.Discussion of Results & ConclusionIn the current research, the researchers explained some clues about Hajj Mulla Ali Gunabadi’s interest in the culture and new civilization, as well as their related issues, thus showing his true perception of the domination of these issues on social etiquettes. Moreover, some contents of interest for learning the new sciences and technologies, along with Islamic sciences, were presented. The last part of the article dealt with Hajj Mulla Ali Gunabadi’s juridical views. He, like his father, avoided to issue juridical views as much as possible, but as a jurist mystic, he inevitably issued some of such views on some questions. The researchers mentioned three of these views of Nur Alishah on bigamy, narcotics, and slaveholding, which were related to the cultural changes and social issues in the new era. During this investigation, the researchers pointed out some of Sultan Alishah’s views on the prohibition of bigamy and opium as well. By referring to Islamic texts, such as Quranic verses and narrations, and due to the domination of cultural requirements in the society in the new era, it was found that Nur Alishah had had to issue these views exactly like his father and prohibit slaveholding. The result of the present study revealed that the new civilization and its different manifestations, such as development of science in the world, were some issues of Hajj Mulla Ali Gunabadi’s interest. He, like his father and other Sufi ancestors, believed that paying attention to culture and social progress was inevitable. Consequently, he tried to adjust the religious viewpoints and circumstances of the new civilization to the cultural affairs of the new era with fidelity to genuine Islamic teachings. Hence, this was a confirmation for some scholars’ views, who believed that not only Sufism and Sufis’ mystical teachings were not the reasons for the decline of civilization and an impediment to progress in the Islamic world, but also real Sufis made development of Islamic culture and progress of intellectual sciences in the Islamic world.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Few reports have examined the effects of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG) on changes to serum albumin (Alb) and liver enzyme levels. OBJECTIVE: To compare short-term post-surgery changes in serum Alb, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALKP) levels. Body composition changes were also measured and compared among three groups. DESIGN AND SETTING: Retrospective cohort study conducted in Tehran, Iran. METHODS: 151 OAGB, RYGB and SG patients referred to the obesity clinic of Hazrat-e Rasool General Hospital, Tehran, Iran, were evaluated. Physical characteristics and biochemical parameters were measured pre-surgery and then after three and six months. RESULTS: Through repeated measurements to determine intragroup changes, significant changes in serum AST (P = 0.003) and ALT (P < 0.001) were observed in follow-ups. However, Alb levels did not change (P = 0.413). Body fat, fat-free mass and muscle mass decreased significantly in each group (P < 0.05). In a univariate general linear model for determining intergroup changes, SG showed greater decreases in ALT and AST at three and six months (P < 0.05) and in ALKP at six months (P = 0.037), compared with OAGB. There were no significant differences in Alb levels. Also, RYGB had a greater effect on reducing fat percentage (three months, P = 0.011; six months, P = 0.059) and fat mass (three months, P = 0.042) than OAGB. CONCLUSION: SG and RYGB may be superior to OAGB in reducing liver enzymes and body fat, respectively. However, Alb levels showed no significant differences.

Introduction: It could be valuable for surgeons and patients to use one chart in different groups and evaluate weight loss during the post-surgery period. Methods: This retrospective study used the Iran National Obesity Surgery Database. patients with clinically severe obesity aged 18-70 undergoing sleeve gastrectomy participated in this study. Body mass Index (BMI) reduction and 5 other metrics measured over the study period were modeled using LMS (Lambda-mu-sigma) method. Our data were split into the train (70%) and test (30%) sets. Results: In this study, 1,258 patients (75% female) met the eligibility criteria to participate. Mean age and initial BMI were 36.87 ± 10.51 and 42.74 (40.37-46.36), respectively. Percentile charts for various metrics have been presented for the first 2 years after surgery. Conclusions: For sleeve surgery, all metrics are acceptable for clinical applications. Using the statistical view, BMI reduction is the most acceptable metric according to the lowest bias values and its variation between all the metrics.

Objective: Stock liquidity is one of the most critical factors for investors in the capital markets and one of the main functions of the stock exchange. The tendency to investigate this issue stems from the fact that investors decide to trade in the capital market by comparing the risk and return of investment opportunities, and liquidity risk is one of the main risks. Managers are considered this issue, and various aspects of it have been studied so far. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of excess cash on firm value and investigating the benefits of cash holding in firms with higher growth opportunities or financial constraints. Methods: Liu's 2006 measure for liquidity risk is used, which instead of focusing on a specific aspect of liquidity risk, such as trading volume and the difference between the buy and sale price, covers all aspects of it. The present study is in the category of post-event research. The data used in the research is related to 189 firms of the Tehran Stock Exchange from 2008 to 2018. In this study, Jark-Bra, Arch-Engel, BDS, Box-Pierce, IPS unit root, cohesion test, F-Limer, Hausman tests were used to evaluate descriptive statistics and results. Results: Excess cash has recently been considered by researchers as one of the measures for estimating the liquidity risk of firms. The research variables were examined for reliability. For this purpose, IPS test were used. Based on the results of this test, all research variables except for the cost of Research and Development (R&D) which is scaled by sales and institutional shareholders are at a stable level, while the latter variables are stable with a one-time differentiation. Accordingly, due to the lack of significance of a number of variables in the level, the existence of a long-run relationship was tested by the co-integration test method. The results of the test show that despite the unreliability of some research variables at the level, there is a long-term relationship between research variables. The results indicate that excess cash is a valuable criterion for firms’ liquidity risk and its effect becomes more severe under the influence of growth opportunities or financial constraints. Conclusion: The results indicate that the excess cash had a significant negative effect on the value of the firms. Additionally, in the study of firms with growth opportunities or financial constraints, it is found that for firms that have growth opportunities or financial constraints, the relationship between excess cash and liquidity of firms’ shares was more intense.

Background and Objectives: Object tracking in video streams is one of the issues in machine vision that has many applications. Depending on the type of the object, the number of objects and other inputs used in tracking, object tracking is divided into several different categories. Multi-object tracking in a camera network is one of the most complex types of object tracking. In this type of tracking, the goal of the algorithm is to extract the persistent trace of several objects moving simultaneously in a wide area that is monitored by a network of cameras. This type of tracking is often done in two steps. In the first step, the traces of each object in each camera is called tracklets are extracted. Then, the persistent trace of the objects are obtained by associating the extracted tracklets of all cameras in the monitored wide area. Here, we introduce a novel variational approach based on the deep features to associate the tracklets.Methods: For this purpose a variational model with multiphase level set representation is introduced. The persistent trace of all objects are obtained by optimizing the proposed variational model. The proposed variational model is optimized by employing the Euler-Lagrange equation. CNN and deep learning are used to extract the deep features of appearance and motion of objects. Here, a ResNet50 network that is pre-trained on ImageNet and a transformer neural network which is trained with motion parameters of tracklets such as acceleration and orientation change rate are used for extracting deep features.Results: The results on the three well-known datasets which are real and a synthesized dataset show that the proposed model takes competitive performance, while using less extra context information of the camera network and objects, compared to the other proposed methods. The evaluations show the quality of the proposed model in solving complex problems using the minimum required initial knowledge.Conclusion: The multiphase model using deep features presented in this paper provide 9% better results than the multiphase model without deep features based on TCF and FS metrics and 8% better results based on MT metric.

Objectives: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) impacts the quality of life of the affected patients. The present study aimed to determine the effects of home-based self-care program follow-up on re-hospitalization frequency and quality of life in COPD patients. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was performed on 44 COPD patients at Masih Daneshvari Hospital in Tehran City, Iran, in 2018. For collecting the necessary data, we used demographic data checklist, COPD Assessment Test, and the St. George’s Quality of Life questionnaire. We used SPSS v. 22 for analyzing the obtained data. Results: The present study revealed that the highest age frequency was in the 61-70 years age group. Moreover, the male gender had the highest frequency and most research participants had elementary school education; the highest frequency regarding the disease duration was >5 years. Besides and the hospitalization frequency was once a year. Background and Aim: One of the most complex medical problems is pain, that due to inappropriate management of patients after surgery could cause various side effects on the psychological, physiological, and metabolic state of the patients. The natural duration of analgesia can be increased by adding new efficient adjuvant. The present study is mainly aimed to investigate the differences between the epidural dexmedetomidine and ketamine effectiveness when administered as an adjuvant to epidural 0.25% bupivacaine for improving the postoperative analgesia duration. Methods: In the present double-blind clinical study, 105 patients of the age range of 40–85 years were selected for elective femoral surgery and then was divided into three of ketamine, dexmedetomidine, and control randomly. The scores of postoperative pain were evaluated in accordance with the visual Analogue Scale (VAS) criteria and the duration of analgesia and the amount of analgesics consumption were recorded. Results: The mean pain VAS score during the first day after the surgery and recovery of patients in the dexmedetomidine group was significantly lower in comparison with two other groups (p = 0.01). However, no significant difference was found in the mean VAS score of Paine during 12 and 24 hours after the operation (P ≥ 0.05). Comparisons among these groups demonstrated that the mean on opioid administration during the operation and 24 hours after that was significantly higher in both groups of ketamine and control in comparison with the dexmedetomidine group (P = 0.001 and P = 0.01). Besides, analgesia duration among patients belonged to the dexmedetomidine group was notably lower in comparison with two other groups (P = 0.001). Conclusion: In epidural anesthesia cases adding ketamine and dexmedetomidine as adjuvants to the solution of bupivacaine 0.25%, could increase the duration of analgesia and reduce the consumption of analgesics, which is more in the dexmedetomidine group when compared with ketamine.

Background: Revising the size of the gastric pouch during the conversion of one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB)/mini-gastric bypass to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is an important point. Even in patients undergoing RYGB, marginal ulcer is regarded as a known complication. Materials and Methods: In our Centre of Excellence in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, 2492 patients underwent OAGB from February 2012 to January 2019. Twelve of 2492 patients were enrolled in this clinical case series because of persistent gastroesophageal reflux-like symptoms which underwent conversional RYGB. All patients regularly received proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) for 6 months after the surgery. After this period, the cases with symptomatic reflux were invited to be visited in the clinic by a bariatric surgeon and a gastroenterologist and received 6 months of PPI therapy until their symptoms disappeared. Twelve refractory reflux cases underwent conversional RYGB after 1 year. An enteroenterostomy was created in all the patients 75 cm distal to the gastrojejunostomy without resizing the gastric pouch, and the jejunal loop was cut just before the gastrojejunostomy. Results: Before conversional surgery, mean ± standard deviation (SD) body mass index (BMI) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)-Q score were found to be 26.45 ± 2.34 kg/m2 and 10.08 ± 0.56, respectively. At 1 year after conversion, mean ± SD BMI in the patients was 28.12 ± 4.71, and GERD-Q score was 5.08 ± 1.5. Conclusion: It seems that resizing the gastric pouch is not necessary during the conversion of OAGB to RYGB.

Background and Objectives: Many real-world problems are time series forecasting (TSF) problem. Therefore, providing more accurate and flexible forecasting methods have always been a matter of interest to researchers. An important issue in forecasting the time series is the predicated time interval.Methods: In this paper, a new method is proposed for time series forecasting that can make more accurate predictions at larger intervals than other existing methods. Neural networks are an effective tool for estimating time series due to their nonlinearity and their ability to be used for different time series without specific information of those. A variety of neural networks have been introduced so far, some of which have been used in forecasting time series. Encoder decoder Networks are an example of networks that can be used in time series forcasting. an encoder network encodes the input data based on a particular pattern and then a decoder network decodes the output based on the encoded input to produce the desired output. Since these networks have a better understanding of the context, they provide a better performance. An example of this type of network is transformer. A transformer neural network based on the self-attention is presented that has special capability in forecasting time series problems.Results: The proposed model has been evaluated through experimental results on two benchmark real-world TSF datasets from different domain. The experimental results states that, in terms of long-term estimation Up to eight times more resistant and in terms of estimation accuracy about 20 percent improvement, compare to other well-known methods, is obtained. Computational complexity has also been significantly reduced.Conclusion: The proposed tool could perform better or compete with other introduced methods with less computational complexity and longer estimation intervals. It was also found that with better configuration of the network and better adjustment of attention, it is possible to obtain more desirable results in any specific problem.

Visuo-spatial training is considered a promising approach to provide young children with a sound foundation for later mathematical learning. We developed and implemented a tablet-based visuo-spatial intervention in kindergarten classrooms aiming to foster the development of children's visuo-spatial and numerical abilities. A sample of N = 125 children participated in the present study, 68 children were part of the intervention group and participated in 20 training sessions of 20 min over a 10-week period, 57 children formed a business as usual control group. Results show that, at this young age, visuo-spatial and early math skills are already strongly interlinked. However, the training effects were domain-specific as they only improved visuo-spatial skills, but did not transfer to early math performance in the present setting.

Therefore, gaining a greater understanding of the mindset that officers have towards the world of autonomy will aid the maritime industry by developing a baseline for future navigational training. This paper examines the perceptions and attitudes of 100 navigational seafaring participants of varying navigational ranks and levels of seagoing experience. The aim of the study was to identify the perceptions and self-conscious trust that current seafarers have towards automated and future autonomous systems. Participants were issued a situational judgement test comprising of three questions, allowing them to assess and respond to a hazardous scenario. The results of the study found that seafarers are receptive towards the introduction of autonomous shipping. Furthermore, the participants showed an awareness of what autonomous shipping would mean for the maritime industry. However, concerns remain about the responsibility and safety of the vessel in the event of the introduction of an unmanned vessel. Moreover, when comparing opinions and trust levels among the cohort of ranks, it was found that participants of a higher rank had a similar outlook towards autonomy to that of the less experienced groups.

The term life-world, which is introduced in parallel with topics such as the “natural concept of the world” and the “environment world”, is of great importance in Husserl’s later philosophy. It is a very complex and multi-meaningful concept that has led to different and often contradictory interpretations. Husserl examined this concept in the book Crisis from three aspects: worldly (mundan), ontological and transcendental, and in this way, it takes on different meanings, which are summarized as follows: the life-world is 1) the world of natural position; 2) the intersubjective world of action, which includes all the things that man deals with in everyday action; 3) a world given to perception; 4) the spiritual and historical world of culture; 5) the world precedes science (pre-science), which is in opposition to objectivism, especially modern objectivism, which is associated with the development of the natural sciences; 6) one of the ways to enter the transcendental realm. This article deals with the relations of the life-world with science, culture, and the transcendental realm.

Bariatric surgery is currently the only method that can significantly and continuously reduce weight and improve obesity-related comorbidities in morbidly obese patients. Significant weight loss through bariatric surgery can lead to changes in body composition. This study shows the changes in body composition, basal metabolic rate (BMR), and serum albumin in obese people following bariatric surgery. The study included 880 patients who underwent laparoscopic mini-gastric bypass surgery (LMGBP) between 2016 and 2020. The body mass index (BMI), bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), age, gender, blood albumin, WC (waist circumference), HC (hip circumference), BMR, and blood albumin were recorded at 0, 3, 6, and 12 months, postoperatively. The reduction in serum albumin concentration was not consistent with weight loss. Bariatric surgery promotes the breakdown of both fat and lean mass on the arms, torso, and thighs. This size reduction usually aggravates the concomitant skin redundancy in these areas which is a challenge for the plastic surgery team. Interestingly, the rate of lean mass reduction of the arms is faster than that of the torso and thighs. Excessive loss of lean body mass will also lower BMR and lead to subsequent weight gain. Despite the faster loss of proteins and lean mass in somatic areas, internal organs and viscera lose fats faster than proteins. According to this study, visceral proteins are the latest proteins to be affected by weight loss. This finding shows a different metabolic response of viscera comparing to somatic areas.
