En nuestro país, la disminución en los ingresos, el desempleo, el aumento de la pobreza, la exclusión social y el aumento significativo de la desigualdad social, hace cada vez más difícil garantizar la empleabilidad de nuestros recursos humanos recién egresados de nuestra Institución, donde se hace cada vez más dificultoso generar posibilidades de empleos con ingresos dignos y decentes. El programa de evaluación y seguimiento de egresados de la FOLP permite apoyar y elevar la calidad educativa de la institución. Los objetivos son determinar la situación laboral, tendencia a la emigración y los motivos de la misma. Se realizó la recopilación de datos del universo a estudiar constituido por los egresados en el período comprendido entre el 1-1-2016 y el 31-12-2018, El 84 % ejerce la profesión (34 % en forma independiente, 35 % en relación de dependencia, 15 % en ambas formas). El 73 % tiene intención de emigrar fundamentalmente por Problemas Laborales, 4% para lograr perfeccionamiento y 4% por ambas razones. Este alto porcentaje tiene intención de emigrar principalmente por problemas laborales y/o económicos a España, como el primer destino elegido seguido de países latinoamericanos como Brasil, Chile, Uruguay y Colombia., In our country, the decrease in income, unemployment, the increase in poverty, social exclusion and the significant increase in social inequality, makes it increasingly difficult to guarantee the employability of our newly graduated human resources of our Institution, where it becomes increasingly difficult to generate employment opportunities with decent and decent income. The aim of this study is to review all the published clinical trials on autologous bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) in the repair of cartilage lesions of the knee. We performed a comprehensive search in three electronic databases: PubMed, Medline via Ovid, and Web of Science. A systematic review was conducted according to the guidelines of PRISMA protocol and the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. The modified Coleman methodology score was used to assess the quality of the included studies. Meta-analysis was conducted to estimate the effect size for Pain and function change after receiving BM-MSCs. Thirty-three studies—including 724 patients of mean age 44.2 years—were eligible. 50.7% of the included patients received cultured BM-MSCs for knee cartilage repair. There was improvement in the MINORS quality score over time with a positive correlation with the publication year. Meta-analysis indicated better improvement and statistical significance in the Visual Analog Scale for Pain, IKDC Function, Tegner Activity Scale, and Lysholm Knee Score after administration of noncultured BM-MSCs when compared to evaluation before the treatment. Meanwhile, there was a clear methodological defect in most studies with an average modified Coleman methodology score (MCMS) of 55. BM-MSCs revealed a clinically relevant improvement in pain, function, and histological regeneration.

Young, skeletally mature mice lacking Cx43 in osteocytes exhibit increased osteocyte apoptosis and decreased bone strength, resembling the phenotype of old mice. Further, the expression of Cx43 in bone decreases with age, suggesting a contribution of reduced Cx43 levels to the age-related changes in the skeleton. We report herein that Cx43 overexpression in osteocytes achieved by using the DMP1-8kb promoter (Cx43OT mice) attenuates the skeletal cortical, but not trabecular bone phenotype of aged, 14-month-old mice. The percentage of Cx43-expressing osteocytes was higher in Cx43OT mice, whereas the percentage of Cx43 positive osteoblasts remained similar to wild type (WT) littermate control mice. The percentage of apoptotic osteocytes and osteoblasts was increased in aged WT mice compared to skeletally mature, 6-month-old WT mice, and the percentage of apoptotic osteocytes, but not osteoblasts, was decreased in age-matched Cx43OT mice. Aged WT mice exhibited decreased bone formation and increased bone resorption as quantified by histomorphometric analysis and circulating markers, compared to skeletally mature mice. Further, aged WT mice exhibited the expected decrease in bone biomechanical structural and material properties compared to young mice. Cx43 overexpression prevented the increase in osteoclasts and decrease in bone formation on the endocortical surfaces, and the changes in circulating markers in the aged mice. Moreover, the ability of bone to resist damage was preserved in aged Cx43OT mice both at the structural and material level. All together, these findings suggest that increased Cx43 expression in osteocytes ameliorates age-induced cortical bone changes by preserving osteocyte viability and maintaining bone formation, leading to improved bone strength.

Galicia posee uno de los ambientes litorales más complejos en la Península Ibérica. Las peculiares características de sus Rías (valles inundados con posterioridad al último máximo glacial, hace aprox 18000años) y el abundante cultivo de mejillón incrementa la sedimentación de materiales de grano fino con elevados contenidos en materia orgánica. La degradación de esta materia orgánica en ambientes anóxicos es muy favorable para la formación de metano microbiano que se acumula y/o escapa desde los sedimentos del fondo actual. Los registros sedimentarios proporcionan importante información sobre los ciclos geoquímicos que implican transformaciones de sedimentos y materia orgánica. En ambientes anóxicos, diferentes elementos pueden intervenir en las reacciones de oxidación. En los sedimentos marinos se aprecia una zonación vertical de los procesos basada en el consumo sucesivo oxígeno, nitrato, sulfato de manganeso (IV), Fe (III), y el CO2 como aceptores terminales de electrones a través de reacciones de oxidación geoquímica o a través de las vías de respiración microbiana. La extensión de estas zonas de reacción depende de la tasa de sedimentación y del contenido de materia orgánica. Los sedimentos profundos que contienen óxidos de hierro pueden provocar la oxidación del sulfuro presente en el agua de los poros y dar lugar a la producción de sulfato que, a su vez, puede ser reducido por las bacterias en la zona de metano (metanogénesis). El trabajo de Tesis Doctoral que se propone pretende estudiar la geoquímica del Fe y S en los sedimentos anóxicos de la Ría de Vigo, ricos en materia orgánica, y su contribución al balance final de metano. Complementaría por lo tanto los actuales estudios sobre el balance de metano en la Ría de Vigo, que el grupo XM3 de la Universidad de Vigo viene realizando dentro del proyecto METRIA (Ref del proy CTM2009-13926-C02-01 MICINN) y con los que se intenta comprender los mecanismos que controlan el balance de gases de efecto invernadero en medios marinos someros.

Bone has the potential for spontaneous healing. This process, however, often fails in patients with comorbidities. Tissue engineering combining functional cells, biomaterials and osteoinductive cues may provide alternative treatment strategies. We have recently demonstrated that stromal cell-derived factor-1β (SDF-1β) works in concert with bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) to potentiate osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (BMSCs). Here, we test the hypothesis that SDF-1β overexpressed in Tet-Off-SDF-1β BMSCs, delivered on acellular dermal matrix (ADM), synergistically augments BMP-2-induced healing of critical-sized mouse calvarial defects. BMSC therapies alone showed limited bone healing, which was increased with co-delivery of BMP-2. This was further enhanced in Tet-Off-SDF-1β BMSCs + BMP-2. Only limited BMSC retention on ADM constructs was observed after 4 weeks in vivo, which was increased with BMP-2 co-delivery. In vitro cell proliferation studies showed that supplementing BMP-2 to Tet-Off BMSCs significantly increased the cell number during the first 24 h. Consequently, the increased cell numbers decreased the detectable BMP-2 levels in the medium, but increased cell-associated BMP-2. The data suggest that SDF-1β provides synergistic effects supporting BMP-2-induced, BMSC-mediated bone formation and appears suitable for optimization of bone augmentation in combination therapy protocols.
