International audience; In 2018, the regional seismic network JURAQUAKE has been deployed in eastern France, in addition to the RESIF-EPOS network. The objective is to better characterize the local microseismicity affecting the northern part of the Jura arc (Larroque et al., 2021) and investigate the potential role of fluids in triggering earthquakes in this faulted and karstified region. Actually, three seismic stations have been installed on a karst aquifer and coupled to an existing hydrogeological observatory (JURASSIC KARST - SNO KARST), allowing to monitor water flow and sediment transport. In addition, 500 m of fiber optic cable has been placed along the underground karstic conduit in order to investigate hydrogeological recharge and transfer processes into the system. A very-high resolution 3D scan of the cavity was also acquired with a long-range Zeb-REVO to document the geological structures. Such multidisciplinary approach is relevant to better understand the functioning of the aquifer, as well as the spatio-temporal variations that occur along the karstic network.

The lecture deals with the new building of the abbot's residence in Corvey commissioned by Wibald von Stablo. The focus here is on the question of whether Wibald's writing room, in which, according to contemporary reports, he kept documents for official and private use, should be seen as a rule or a special case in a European comparison for the 12th century. 15 pages; International audience; Reconstructing the spatial and temporal response of mountain glaciers to rapid climate change in the past provides access to the effects of current climate change. Yet, the spatial and temporal variability of past glacier fluctuations is not fully understood. In this study, we focus on the timing of glacier fluctuations in the European Alps during the Younger Dryas/Early Holocene (YD/EH) transition. In an effort to elucidate whether glacier fluctuations were synchronous during this period, we present a new chronology of the Alpine Talèfre glacier, based on 14 new 10Be ages of moraines and roches moutonnées. The retreat of Talèfre glacier was initiated during the mid-YD (~12.4 ka), then it experienced a gradual retreat punctuated by at least three oscillations until ∼11 ka before shrinking substantially within its Little Ice Age limits (13th−19th centuries). Comparison of our findings with published glacier chronologies in the Alpine region highlights broadly synchronous behaviour of glaciers across the Alps between 12 and 10 ka. The coeval glacier fluctuations at a regional scale suggest that common regional climate conditions had a major impact on Alpine glacier variations during the YD/EH transition. The similarity of glacier behaviour and independent temperature records in both the Alpine region and the northern high latitudes suggests a teleconnection between these regions, but differences in the amplitude of the mean annual temperature signals relative to summer temperature indicate pronounced changes in seasonality between the YD and the EH.

This article is dedicated to Liesbeth van Houts, editor of the Gesta Normannorum ducum, generous mentor, colleague, and friend.This article offers an analysis, edition, and translation of the Brevis cronica compendiosa ducum Normannie, a historiographical account of the dukes of Normandy and their deeds, written at the turn of the fifteenth century by the Norman jurist and man of letters, Simon de Plumetot (1371–1443). Having all but escaped the attention of modern scholars, this study is the first to examine and publish the Brevis cronica. It not only demonstrates that the work is of greater importance than its rather scrappy form might at first suggest, but it also looks to place the text within the broader context of Simon's literary and bibliophilic practices and to determine its raison d’être. In doing so, it argues that the Brevis cronica was perhaps created as part of a much larger historiographical project, namely an extended chronicle of Normandy, written in the vernacular, the text of which is now lost. By exploring these important issues, the article sheds new light on a wide range of topics, from early humanist book collecting to the writing of history in France in the later Middle Ages.

Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, latin 2342 (hereafter MS Lat. 2342) is a codex that has long fascinated scholars, though precious little is known about the specific circumstances of its production . In its present form, the manuscript is a compendium of eleven Latin works (Appendix 1), over half of which are otherwise unattested and probably represent original compositions. Most of them were written by a single scribe, presumably the author himself. Many attempts have been made to identify this author/scribe, but all we know is that he was almost certainly a monk at the abbey of Le Bec in Normandy (dép. Eure, cant. Brionne) during the first half of the twelfth century, which is why he is commonly referred to as the Anonymus Beccensis . This article offers a fresh study of the composition and authorship of MS Lat. 2342 divided into three sections. The first section provides a holistic codicological and palaeographical discussion of MS Lat. 2342 which for the first time considers the entire book, rather than concentrating on individual segments. The second section builds on this discussion by developing a ‘profile’ of the Anonymus Beccensis that includes his education and the authorities he used and cited most frequently. The final section explores some intriguing similarities between this ‘profile’ and the life and career of one particular monk of Le Bec who – as I shall argue – presents a potential match for the person who wrote MS Lat. 2342.
