The accurate estimation of soil plant analytical development (SPAD) values in cotton under various intercropping patterns with soybean is crucial for monitoring cotton growth and determining a suitable intercropping pattern. In this study, we utilized an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to capture visible (RGB) and multispectral (MS) data of cotton at the bud stage, early flowering stage, and full flowering stage in a cotton–soybean intercropping pattern in the Yellow River Delta region of China, and we used SPAD502 Plus and tapeline to collect SPAD and cotton plant height (CH) data of the cotton canopy, respectively. We analyzed the differences in cotton SPAD and CH under different intercropping ratio patterns. It was conducted using Pearson correlation analysis between the RGB features, MS features, and cotton SPAD, then the recursive feature elimination (RFE) method was employed to select image features. Seven feature sets including MS features (five vegetation indices + five texture features), RGB features (five vegetation indices + cotton cover), and CH, as well as combinations of these three types of features with each other, were established. Voting regression (VR) ensemble learning was proposed for estimating cotton SPAD and compared with the performances of three models: random forest regression (RFR), gradient boosting regression (GBR), and support vector regression (SVR). The optimal model was then used to estimate and visualize cotton SPAD under different intercropping patterns. The results were as follows: (1) There was little difference in the mean value of SPAD or CH under different intercropping patterns; a significant positive correlation existed between CH and SPAD throughout the entire growth period. (2) All VR models were optimal when each of the seven feature sets were used as input. When the features set was MS + RGB, the determination coefficient (R2) of the validation set of the VR model was 0.902, the root mean square error (RMSE) was 1.599, and the relative prediction deviation (RPD) was 3.24. (3) When the features set was CH + MS + RGB, the accuracy of the VR model was further improved, compared with the feature set MS + RGB, the R2 and RPD were increased by 1.55% and 8.95%, respectively, and the RMSE was decreased by 7.38%. (4) In the intercropping of cotton and soybean, cotton growing under 4:6 planting patterns was better. The results can provide a reference for the selection of intercropping patterns and the estimation of cotton SPAD.

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery presents significant advantages for observing ocean surface winds owing to its high spatial resolution and low sensitivity to extreme weather conditions. Nevertheless, signal noise poses a challenge, hindering precise wind retrieval from SAR imagery. Moreover, traditional geophysical model functions (GMFs) often falter, particularly in accurately estimating high wind speeds, notably during extreme weather phenomena like tropical cyclones (TCs). To address these limitations, this study proposes a novel hybrid model, CMOD-Diffusion, which integrates the strengths of GMFs with data-driven deep learning methods, thereby achieving enhanced accuracy and robustness in wind retrieval. Based on the coarse estimation of wind speed by the traditional GMF CMOD5.N, we introduce the recently developed data-driven method Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Model (DDPM). It transforms an image from one domain to another domain by gradually adding Gaussian noise, thus achieving denoising and image synthesis. By introducing the DDPM, the noise from the observed normalized radar cross-section (NRCS) and the residual of the GMF methods can be largely compensated. Specifically, for wind speeds within the low-to-medium range, a DDPM is employed before proceeding to another CMOD iteration to recalibrate the observed NRCS. Conversely, a posterior-placed DDPM is applied after CMOD to reconstruct high-wind-speed regions or TC-affected areas, with the prior information from regions characterized by low wind speeds and recalibrated NRCS values. The efficacy of the proposed model is evaluated by using Sentinel-1 SAR imagery in vertical–vertical (VV) polarization, collocated with data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). Experimental results based on validation sets demonstrate significant improvements over CMOD5.N, particularly in low-to-medium wind speed regions, with the Structural Similarity Index (SSIM) increasing from 0.76 to 0.98 and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) decreasing from 1.98 to 0.63. Across the entire wind field, including regions with high wind speeds, the validation data obtained through the proposed method exhibit an RMSE of 2.39 m/s, with a correlation coefficient of 0.979.

To enhance agricultural productivity through the accurate detection of pests under the constrained resources of mobile devices, we introduce LP-YOLO, a bespoke lightweight object detection framework optimized for mobile-based insect pest identification. Initially, we devise lightweight components, namely LP_Unit and LP_DownSample, to serve as direct substitutes for the majority of modules within YOLOv8. Subsequently, we develop an innovative attention mechanism, denoted as ECSA (Efficient Channel and Spatial Attention), which is integrated into the network to forge LP-YOLO(l). Moreover, assessing the trade-offs between parameter reduction and computational efficiency, considering both the backbone and head components of the network, we use structured pruning methods for the pruning process, culminating in the creation of LP-YOLO(s). Through a comprehensive series of evaluations on the IP102 dataset, the efficacy of LP-YOLO as a lightweight object detection model is validated. By incorporating fine-tuning techniques during training, LP-YOLO(s)n demonstrates a marginal mAP decrease of only 0.8% compared to YOLOv8n. However, it achieves a significant reduction in parameter count by 70.2% and a remarkable 40.7% increase in FPS, underscoring its efficiency and performance.

The neuropeptide corazonin (Crz) exerts diverse physiological effects in insects, yet its role in crustaceans remains elusive. The abundant expression of Crz receptor (CrzR) in the Y-organs of several crustaceans suggests a potential involvement of Crz in regulating ecdysteroid synthesis. In this study, we examined the effects of PtCrz on ecdysteroid synthesis during the molting period of Portunus trituberculatus through PtCrz treatments and PtCrzR silencing. Our results showed that PtCrz peptide stimulates ecdysteroid levels and the gene expression involved in ecdysteroidogenesis both in vitro and in vivo, whereas dsPtCrzR treatments had opposite effects on ecdysteroid levels and associated gene expression. Thus, our study suggests that PtCrz may modulate ecdysteroid synthesis via Y-organ-expressed PtCrzR. Furthermore, we also discovered the involvement of PtCrz/PtCrzR signaling in regulating PtETH expression. Notably, the inhibitory effect of dsPtCrzR on ecdysteroid synthesis or PtETH expression can be reversed by PtCrz treatment, suggesting the potential existence of multiple receptors for PtCrz. This study provides new insights into the function of crustacean Crz and, for the first time, elucidates the presence of a neuropeptide that can stimulate ecdysteroid synthesis in crustaceans.

Rapeseed oil is a widely consumed edible oil that contains varieties of beneficial micronutrients such as tocopherols and phytosterols; however, the high acid value due to increased free fatty acid can imperil the oil quality and safety. This paper proposed the enzymatic deacidification for high-acid rapeseed oil and simultaneous production of functional diacylglycerols (DAGs) catalyzed by self-made immobilized lipase CALB@MCM-41-C8. The results indicate that the carrier of molecular sieve MCM-41 exhibited a sufficient surface area of 1439.9 m2/g and a proper pore size of 3.5 nm, promoting the immobilization of lipase CLAB. Under the optimal reaction conditions, the acid value of rapeseed oil was largely decreased from 15.3 mg KOH/g to 1.7 mg KOH/g within 3 h, while DAG content was increased from 1.2% to 40.2%. The antioxidant stability of rapeseed oil was also increased from 4.3 h to 7.6 h after enzymatic deacidification. Besides, the deacidified rapeseed oil exhibited fatty, bitter almond aromas, compared to the picked-vegetable, spicy, and pungent aromas for high-acid oil. Finally, the catalytic stability and applicability of CALB@MCM-41-C8 was validated, thus demonstrating the great potential of CALB@MCM-41-C8 in green refining of edible oils and sustainable synthesis of functional lipids.

Abstract Background Chimeric antigen receptor NK (CAR-NK) cell therapy is one of the most promising immunotherapies. Although it has shown a significant therapeutic effect in hematologic malignancies, few successes have been obtained in solid tumors including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The major reasons are lack of specific cell surface antigens and complex tumor microenvironment. Here we identify CD22, a well-known tumor surface marker in hematologic malignancies, is expressed in ESCC, possibly serving as a potential target of CAR-NK cell therapy. Methods The expression of 13 tumor cell surface antigens used clinically was analyzed in patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Also, mRNA expression were detected in 2 ESCC cell lines and 2 patients samples by qCPR. Then according to Venn diagram, CD22 was selected for further investigation. Following this, the expression of CD22 by immunofluorescence (IF) in ESCC cell lines and by immunohistochemistry (IHC) in 87 cases of human ESCC samples was detected respectively. On the basis of H-score results, the correlation between CD22 expression and clinical parameters was analyzed. As a proof, the efficacy of CD22-targeted CAR-NK cells against ESCC cell lines was performed by a real-time cell analyzer (RTCA) platform. Results KYSE-140 and KYSE-150 cell lines displayed surface expression of CD22. IHC showed an 80.46% (70/87) positive rate in ESCC patient samples. Among these, cell membranous expression of CD22 was observed in 27.59% (24/87) patient samples. Through chi-square test, expression of CD22 in ESCC was associated with lymph node metastasis while it was no related to the depth of tumor invasion and clinical stage. Abstract Background We report a case of uveal effusion in a nanophthalmic eye after topical use of brimonidine. Case presentation A 42-year-old male patient with nanophthalmos experienced sudden blurred vision in the right eye after using topical brimonidine when picking up tennis balls repeatedly 6 weeks after bilateral YAG peripheral iridotomy. Ocular examination showed wide choroidal and exudative retinal detachment in the temporal and inferior region, involving the macula. Acute uveal effusion in the right, bilateral nanophthalmos was diagnosed. Oral and topical corticosteroids, combined with topical nonsteroids and atropine led to a complete resolution of the uveal effusion after one month. Conclusion This case suggested a possible causal relationship between the topical use of brimonidine and acute uveal effusion in patients with nanophthalmos. Topical brimonidine should be used with caution in nanophthalmic eyes.

The market size of plant-based milk in China is huge, which also has great development potential. However, there are still many unsolved problems, such as backward processing technology, insufficient raw material development, unsatisfied sensory properties, vague nutritional and digestive characteristics, and incomplete academic discipline etc. From this, the processing problems of plant-based milk, new processing technology and equipment, innovative technology development trend, industrialization policy comprehensively are described and discussed in this paper. This paper will contribute to the industrial development of domestic plant-based milk, and further satisfying people's growing demand for nutrition and health.

Abstract To investigate the hot topics and attitudes of autism in the larger community. In this study, we analyzed and summarized experimental texts from the social media platform Zhihu using the TF-IDF algorithm and K-means clustering approach. Based on the analysis of the 1,740,826-word experimental text, we found that the popularity of autism has steadily risen over recent years. Sufferers and their parents primarily discuss autism. The K-means clustering algorithm revealed that the most popular topics are divided into four categories: self-experience of individuals with autism, external views of individuals with autism, caring and stressful behaviors of caregivers, and information about autism. This study concluded that people with autism face more incredible negative emotions, external cognitive evaluations of the autistic group reflect stereotypes, the caregiver’s family suffers high financial and psychological stress, and disorders caused by disease in autistic individuals.

Abstract Aims Robot-assisted total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) boasts superior accuracy in implant placement, but there is a lack of effective assessment in perioperative management in the context of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). This study aimed to compare the effectiveness and safety of rTHA versus conventional total hip arthroplasty (cTHA) in ERAS-managed patients. Methods In this prospective trial, a total of 60 eligible patients aged between 18 and 80 years were randomly divided into two groups to undergo either rTHA or cTHA. The primary outcomes included blood loss parameters. Secondary outcomes were the duration of the operation, surgical time, WOMAC pain score, WOMAC stiffness score, WOMAC physical function score, Harris score, and postoperative complications. Results The study cohort analyzed 59 eligible participants, 30 of whom underwent rTHA and 29 of whom underwent cTHA. Analysis could not be conducted for one patient due to severe anemia. Diabetic retinopathy(DR)is a neurovascular disease caused by the neurovascular unit(NVU)impairment. Immune imbalance and inflammation are key factors that affect the normal function of NVU and lead to the progression of DR. Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3(NLRP3)inflammasome is indicated as an important component of the inflammatory response, and it can identify endogenous danger signals, leading to the activation of caspase-1 and then activating a series of inflammatory cytokines and pyroptosis. Early activation of inflammasome maintains and promotes innate immunity against bacterial and viral infections, while excessive inflammasome activation results in excessive expression and ongoing action of inflammatory proteins, which in turn triggers off immune disorders and an inflammatory cascade that seriously harms the body. This review summarizes the recent research progress on the mechanism of NLRP3 inflammasome in NVU impairment of DR, including the related drugs targeting NLRP3 pathways.

Abstract Background Patients with acute pancreatitis (AP) exhibit specific phenotypes of gut microbiota associated with severity. Gut microbiota and host interact primarily through metabolites; regrettably, little is known about their roles in AP biological networks. This study examines how enterobacterial metabolites modulate the innate immune system in AP aggravation. Methods In AP, alterations in gut microbiota were detected via microbiomics, and the Lactobacillus metabolites of tryptophan were identified by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS). By culturing Lactobacillus with tryptophan, differential metabolites were detected by LC–MS/MS. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 cells and mice with cerulein plus LPS-induced AP were used to evaluate the biological effect of norharman on M1 macrophages activation in AP development. Further, RNA sequencing and lipid metabolomics were used for screening the therapeutic targets and pathways of norharman. Confocal microscopy assay was used to detect the structure of lipid rafts. Molecular docking was applied to predict the interaction between norharman and HDACs. Luciferase reporter assays and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) were used to explore the direct mechanism of norharman promoting Rftn1 expression. In addition, myeloid-specific Rftn1 knockout mice were used to verify the role of Rftn1 and the reversed effect of norharman. Results AP induced the dysfunction of gut microbiota and their metabolites, resulting in the suppression of Lactobacillus-mediated tryptophan metabolism pathway. The Lactobacillus metabolites of tryptophan, norharman, inhibited the release of inflammatory factor in vitro and in vivo, as a result of its optimal inhibitory action on M1 macrophages. Moreover, norharman blocked multiple inflammatory responses in AP exacerbation due to its ability to maintain the integrity of lipid rafts and restore the dysfunction of lipid metabolism. The mechanism of norharman’s activity involved inhibiting the enzyme activity of histone deacetylase (HDACs) to increase histone H3 at lysine 9/14 (H3K9/14) acetylation, which increased the transcription level of Rftn1 (Raftlin 1) to inhibit M1 macrophages’ activation. Conclusions The enterobacterial metabolite norharman can decrease HDACs activity to increase H3K9/14 acetylation of Rftn1, which inhibits M1 macrophage activation and restores the balance of lipid metabolism to relieve multiple inflammatory responses. Abstract Background Rehabilitation improves functional recovery in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) patients, and assessing patients for rehabilitation is the first step in this process. However, little is known about clinical practice in China regarding the assessment and provision of rehabilitation for patients with SAH. Methods To identify patients hospitalized with SAH and to analyze rehabilitation assessment rates, we used data for 11,234 SAH patients admitted to 861 hospitals from the China Stroke Center Alliance from August 2015 to July 2019. We examined factors for rehabilitation assessment and analyzed the relationship between rehabilitation assessment and outcomes in these patients. Results Among 11,234 patients with SAH, 6,513 (58.0%) were assessed for rehabilitation. Assessed patients had an increased length of stay (mean ± SD days: 17.3 ± 12.5 versus 11.6 ± 10.5, P = 49.4), a higher Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score on admission (mean ± SD GCS score: 12.3 ± 3.8 versus 11.8 ± 4.4, P = 12.2), and were more likely to be admitted to the stroke unit (19.6% versus 13.8%, P = 15.6). Abstract Aims Heart failure (HF) is one of the common adverse cardiovascular events after acute myocardial infarction (AMI), but the predictive efficacy of numerous machine learning (ML) built models is unclear. This study aimed to build an optimal model to predict the occurrence of HF in AMI patients by comparing seven ML algorithms. Methods Cohort 1 included AMI patients from 2018 to 2019 divided into HF and control groups. All first routine test data of the study subjects were collected as the features to be selected for the model, and seven ML algorithms with screenable features were evaluated. Cohort 2 contains AMI patients from 2020 to 2021 to establish an early warning model with external validation. ROC curve and DCA curve to analyze the diagnostic efficacy and clinical benefit of the model respectively. Results The best performer among the seven ML algorithms was XgBoost, and the features of XgBoost algorithm for troponin I, triglycerides, urine red blood cell count, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase, glucose, urine specific gravity, prothrombin time, prealbumin, and urea were ranked high in importance. The AUC of the HF-Lab9 prediction model built by the XgBoost algorithm was 0.966 and had good clinical benefits. Conclusions This study screened the optimal ML algorithm as XgBoost and developed the model HF-Lab9 will improve the accuracy of clinicians in assessing the occurrence of HF after AMI and provide a reference for the selection of subsequent model-building algorithms.

ObjectiveTo construct a prediction model for the intention of accepting recombinant zoster vaccine(RZV) vaccination among community residents based on reasoned action approach for promoting RZV vaccination in the population. MethodsTotally 1 480 attendees of four community health service centers were recruited with accidental sampling in three districts of Shanghai city for an online survey conducted during October – November 2022. The vaccination intention scale developed by Vissor et al was translated into Chinese and modified to collect participants′ information relevant to accept RZV vaccination. Of the 1 471 individual data from eligible respondents, 981 and 490 were randomly assigned into a training set and a test set. Lasso regression analysis on the data of training set was performed to explore the determinants of RZV vaccination intention. A nomogram prediction model for RZV vaccination intention was constructed using multivariate logistic regression analysis on the data of training set and the performance of the established model was evaluated with the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC). ResultsThe intention to have RZV vaccination within 6 months was reported by 8.36% (123) of the eligible respondents. The results of Lasso regression analysis screened out nine predictive factors of RZV vaccination intention, including perception ability (β = 0.149), perceived infection risk (β = 0.074), moral norm (β = 0.061), decisional uncertainty (β = – 0.060), general vaccination beliefs (β = – 0.007), never having herpes zoster infection (β = 0.812), perceived cost-benefit (β = – 0.014), social norm (β = 0.019), and attitude (β = 0.003) and the nine factors were used to construct the prediction model. Based on the nomogram of the established prediction model, the possibility to have RZV vaccination within next 6 months is 9.00% for the respondents never having herpes zoster infection and with following scale items′ scores: 7 for perception ability, 7 for perceived infection risk, 7 for moral norm, 7 for decisional uncertainty, 42 for general vaccination beliefs, 28 for perceived cost-benefit, 49 for social norm, and 42 for the attitude towards RZV vaccination. The results of internal and external validation analysis showed that the established model is of good differentiation and calibration（the area under the curve [AUC]training set = 0.717, AUCtest set = 0.689; χ2training set = 9.061, degree of freedom [df]training set = 8, p training set = 0.337, χ2test set = 12.024, dftest set = 8, ptest set = 0.150）. ConclusionPerception ability, perceived infection risk, moral norm, decisional uncertainty, general vaccination beliefs, whether or not having herpes zoster infection, perceived cost-benefit, social norm, and attitude towards RZV vaccination are main predictive factors for RZV vaccination intention among community residents of Shanghai city.

AimBaseline cognitive functions of patients predicted the efficacy of cognitive remediation therapy (CRT), but results are mixed. Eye movement is a more objective and advanced assessment of cognitive functions than neuropsychological testing. We aimed to investigate the applicability of eye movements in predicting cognitive improvement after patients with schizophrenia were treated with CRT.MethodsWe recruited 79 patients with schizophrenia to complete 8 weeks of CRT and assessed their cognitive improvement outcomes. Eye movements were assessed by prosaccades, antisaccades, and free-viewing tasks at baseline, and neuropsychological tests in four cognitive domains were assessed before and after treatment to calculate treatment outcomes. Predictors of demographic information, clinical characteristics, and eye movement measures at baseline on cognitive improvement outcomes were analyzed using logistic regression analysis. We further compared the predictive performance between eye movement measurements and neuropsychological test regarding the effect of CRT on cognitive improvement, and explored factors that could be affect the treatment outcomes in different cognitive domains.ResultsAs operationally defined, 33 patients showed improved in cognition (improved group) and 46 patients did not (non-improved group) after CRT. Patients with schizophrenia being employed, lower directional error rate in antisaccade task, and lower the gap effect (i.e., the difference in saccadic latency between the gap condition and overlap condition) in prosaccade task at baseline predicted cognitive improvement in CRT. However, performance in the free-viewing task not associated with cognitive improvement in patients in CRT. Our results show that eye-movement prediction model predicted the effect of CRT on cognitive improvement in patients with schizophrenia better than neuropsychological prediction model in CRT. In addition, baseline eye-movements, cognitive reserve, antipsychotic medication dose, anticholinergic cognitive burden change, and number of training sessions were associated with improvements in four cognitive domains.ConclusionEye movements as a non-invasiveness, objective, and sensitive method of evaluating cognitive function, and combined saccadic measurements in pro- and anti-saccades tasks could be more beneficial than free-viewing task in predicting the effect of CRT on cognitive improvement in patients with schizophrenia.

Empowered by AI, chatbots are increasingly being integrated to interact with users in one-on-one communication. However, academic scrutiny on the impact of chatbots on online interaction is lacking. This study aims to fill the gap by applying self-presentation theory (presenting the desired self-impression to others) to explore how the communicating agent (chatbot vs. human agent) in interactive marketing influences users’ interaction willingness, as well as the moderating roles of users’ public self-consciousness (sense of apprehension over self-presentation concern) and sensitive information disclosure (private information linked to an individual). The results of three experimental studies indicate that chatbots can improve users’ willingness to interact by mitigating the self-presentation concern. Further, users’ public self-consciousness and sensitive information disclosure moderated the impact of chatbots in online interactions. These effects were particularly impactful for users with higher public self-consciousness and in situations with sensitive information disclosure. The findings provide theoretical and practical implications for human-chatbot interaction, chatbot strategy, and the application of chatbots in online communication.

Background In papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT), preoperative ultrasonography frequently reveals the presence of enlarged lymph nodes in the central neck region. These nodes pose a diagnostic challenge due to their potential resemblance to metastatic lymph nodes, thereby impacting the surgical decision-making process for clinicians in terms of determining the appropriate surgical extent. Methods Logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify independent risk factors associated with central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) in PTC patients with HT. Then a prediction model was developed and visualized using a nomogram. The stability of the model was assessed using ten-fold cross-validation. The performance of the model was further evaluated through the use of ROC curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis. Results A total of 376 HT PTC patients were included in this study, comprising 162 patients with CLNM and 214 patients without CLNM. The results of the multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age, Tg-Ab level, tumor size, punctate echogenic foci, and blood flow grade were identified as independent risk factors associated with the development of CLNM in HT PTC. The area under the curve (AUC) of this model was 0.76 (95% CI [0.71–0.80]). The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and positive predictive value of the model were determined to be 88%, 51%, 67%, and 57%, respectively. Conclusions The proposed clinic-ultrasound-based nomogram in this study demonstrated a favorable performance in predicting CLNM in HT PTCs. This predictive tool has the potential to assist clinicians in making well-informed decisions regarding the appropriate extent of surgical intervention for patients.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are considered to be responsible for the poor survival, recurrence and therapy resistance of PDAC. Ferroptosis plays a crucial role in the sustain and survival of CSCs. Here, we employed a rigorous evaluation of multiple datasets to identify a novel stemness-based and ferroptosis-related genes (SFRGs) signature to access the potential prognostic application. This work we retrieved RNA-sequencing and clinical annotation data from the TCGA, ICGC, GTEx and GEO database, and acquired 26 stem cell gene sets and 259 ferroptosis genes from StemChecker database and FerrDb database, respectively. Based on consensus clustering and ssGSEA analysis, we identified two expression patterns of CSCs traits (C1 and C2). Then, WGCNA analysis was implemented to screen out hub module genes correlated with stemness. Furthermore, differential expression analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, and the Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and Cox regression were performed to identify the SFRGs and to construct model. In addition, the differences in prognosis, tumor microenvironment (TME) components and therapy responses were evaluated between two risk groups. Finally, we verified the most influential marker ARNTL2 experimentally by western blot, qRT-PCR, sphere formation assay, mitoscreen assay, intracellular iron concentration determination and MDA determination assays. In conclusion, we developed a stemness-based and ferroptosis-related prognostic model, which could help predict overall survival for PDAC patients. Targeting ferroptosis may be a promising therapeutic strategy to inhibit PDAC progression by suppressing CSCs.

Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) is an economically important pathogen in the poultry industry. Vaccination is an effective method to prevent and control MS infections. Currently two live attenuated MS vaccines are commercially available, the temperature-sensitive MS-H vaccine strain and the NAD-independent MS1 vaccine strain. Differentiation of vaccine strains from wild-type (WT) strains is crucial for monitoring MS infection, especially after vaccination. In this study, we developed a Taqman duplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method to identify MS1 vaccine strains from WT strains. The method was specific and did not cross-react with other avian pathogens. The sensitivity assay indicated that no inhibition occurred between probes or between mixed and pure templates in duplex real-time PCR. Compared with the melt-based mismatch amplification mutation assay (MAMA), our method was more sensitive and rapid. In conclusion, the Taqman duplex real-time PCR method is a useful method for the diagnosis and differentiation of WT-MS and MS1 vaccine strains in a single reaction.

The assessment of soil erosion control in loess regions is of great practical significance, as the Loess Plateau remains one of the most eroded areas globally. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the gully protection and erosion control project and changes in the improved potential for soil and water conservation (Po) over 8 years using the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE). Furthermore, this study sought to explore the potential connections between Po and topography and socio-economic factors. The RUSLE results indicated that the erosion in 2020 was 102 t·km−2·a-1 less than that in 2013, but the degree of erosion was higher in 2020. The potential effects of topography and socio-economic factors on Po were examined based on the amount of variation in each village. The results showed that Po decreased in 17 villages and increased in 7 villages, indicating that the direction of soil and water conservation is appropriate in most areas on the Dongzhi tableland. Topography can impose some limitations on Po. Steep topography is associated with higher Po values. According to partial least squares regression (PLSR), this study explored the potential link between socio-economic factors and Po. The results can be used to provide suggestions for gully protection and erosion control in erosion-prone areas in the context of major engineering construction.

This study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in assessing retinal microvascular structural changes in preterm-born children and compare them with those in term-born children. The Web of Science Library, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and Sino Med databases were searched systematically to extract studies published till April 25, 2023. Two independent reviewers searched all the literature and completed the data extraction and quality assessment. Mean differences (MDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess the continuous estimates. STATA software (v15.1; StataCorp, College Station, TX) was used to analyze the data. Twelve published studies were eligible for inclusion in this study. The meta-analysis revealed that the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area of preterm-born children was remarkably smaller than that of term-born children, with the laser photocoagulation (LP)-ROP group showing the most pronounced reduction. The foveal superficial capillary plexus vessel density (SCP-VD) and deep capillary plexus vessel density (DCP-VD) were remarkably higher in the preterm-born group than in the control group, with variations in subgroups (LP-ROP, anti-VEGF-ROP, SR-ROP, and Pre-T-ROP). The parafoveal SCP-VD was remarkably lower in preterm-born children compared to that of the controls, while no significant difference was identified in the parafoveal DCP-VD. Preterm-born children had a smaller FAZ area, higher foveal SCP-VD and DCP-VD, and lower parafoveal SCP-VD compared to their term-born counterparts. The parafoveal DCP-VD did not differ substantially between preterm- and term-born children. OCTA is an effective modality for assessing alterations in the retinal microvasculature in preterm children.

Objectives This study aimed to describe the frequency, determinants and outcomes for assessment of patients who had an acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) for rehabilitation during hospitalisation in China.Design A registry-based retrospective observational study.Study design and settings Data regarding assessment or rehabilitation were extracted from the Chinese Stroke Center Alliance database from 1 August 2015 to 31 July 2019. Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to identify patient and hospital characteristics associated with rehabilitation assessment during acute hospitalisation as well as discharge outcomes.Study cohort We included 837 897 patients who had a stroke in this study with patient characteristics, admission location, medical history, hospital characteristics and hospital designation.Primary and secondary outcome measures Rehabilitation assessment and discharge outcomes.Results Among 837 897 patients who had a stroke admitted to 1473 hospitals, 615 991 (73.5%) underwent rehabilitation assessment. There were significant variations in the rates of rehabilitation assessment across hospitals (IQR 61.3% vs 92.9%). According to multivariate analysis, guideline recommended care delivery was associated with a higher rehabilitation assessment rate, whereas high/low body mass index, ambulation (OR 0.88; 95% CI 0.87 to 0.90), history of stroke (OR 0.94; 95% CI 0.93 to 0.95), coronary heart disease (OR 0.84; 95% CI 0.82 to 0.85) and atrial fibrillation (OR 0.91; 95% CI 0.89 to 0.94) were associated with a lower rate. Additionally, rehabilitation assessment during hospitalisation was significantly associated with lower in-hospital mortality (OR 0.38; 95% CI 0.35 to 0.41) and a higher probability of discharge to a rehabilitation centre (OR 2.66; 95% CI 2.5 to 2.82).Conclusions Nearly one-quarter of patients who had an AIS do not undergo documented rehabilitation assessment and compliance across hospitals varies. Thus, it is necessary to improve adherence to rehabilitation assessment to improve the quality of medical care for patients who had an AIS.

Internet of Things (IoT) is being widely developed in various fields, and its penetration rate in daily life is continuously increasing. The nature of the social function of objects and giving them an identity has made it possible to successfully integrate this technology into many traditional systems and improve their performance by automation. Libraries are one of the most obvious examples of smartening by IoT architecture. So far, various architectures have been presented for smartening libraries through IoT technology. However, a low-cost and ideal architecture that can cover all the requirements in a wide range of smart library applications has not been provided. This article attempts to fill some of the existing research gaps in this field by presenting a new architecture for smartening libraries. In the proposed method, Software Defined Networking (SDN) is used to reduce implementation costs and improve the management process of network components. In this architecture, the communication platform of network active objects is formed based on a cluster-based topology. Also, passive Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) tags are utilized to manage books and library property. Two stages of evaluation have been conducted for the suggested method's performance: actual deployment and computer simulations. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that this study has succeeded in creating an effective and affordable design for smart libraries, which is a major advancement over conventional libraries.

Gastric Cancer (GC) is a prevalent malignancy within the digestive tract, ranking as the fifth most common malignant tumor worldwide. It is characterized by clinical features such as a tendency for metastasis and an unfavorable prognosis. Ferroptosis, a recently identified form of cell death, represents a novel mode of cellular demise that diverges from the traditional concepts of necrosis and apoptosis. Numerous studies have found that ferroptosis plays a significant role in the proliferation, metastasis, drug resistance, and microenvironment regulation within GC. This review summarizes the mechanism of ferroptosis and its role in the occurrence and development of GC cells. It provides examples demonstrating how various anti-tumor drugs can induce ferroptosis in GC cells. Additionally, it summarizes the potential application value of ferroptosis in the future treatment of GC.

Abstract Due to the difficulties in precisely manipulating DNA repair pathways, high-fidelity targeted integration of large transgenes triggered by double-strand breaks is inherently inefficient. Here, we exploit prime editors to devise a robust knock-in (KI) strategy named primed micro-homologues-assisted integration (PAINT), which utilizes reverse-transcribed single-stranded micro-homologues to boost targeted KIs in different types of cells. The improved version of PAINT, designated PAINT 3.0, maximizes editing efficiency and minimizes off-target integration, especially in dealing with scarless in-frame KIs. Using PAINT 3.0, we target a reporter transgene into housekeeping genes with editing efficiencies up to 80%, more than 10-fold higher than the traditional homology-directed repair method. Moreover, the use of PAINT 3.0 to insert a 2.5-kb transgene achieves up to 85% KI frequency at several therapeutically relevant genomic loci, suggesting its potential for clinical applications. Finally, PAINT 3.0 enables high-efficiency non-viral genome targeting in primary T cells and produces functional CAR-T cells with specific tumor-killing ability. Thus, we establish that the PAINT method is a powerful gene editing tool for large transgene integrations and may open new avenues for cell and gene therapies and genome writing technologies.

Abstract As an important bioactive molecule, nitric oxide (NO) can effectively alleviate the effects of drought stress on crops. However, it is still unclear whether it can increase the stress resistance of soybean. Therefore, in this study, our objective was to explore the effect of exogenous NO application on the physiological characteristics of soybean seedlings under drought stress. As test material, two soybean varieties, HN65 and HN44, were used, while sodium nitroprusside (SNP) of 100 μmol L−1, 200 μmol L−1, 500 μmol L−1, 1000 μmol L−1 served as an exogenous NO donor, and PEG-6000 as an osmotic regulator to simulate drought stress. The effects of irrigation with different SNP concentrations for different days on the physiological characteristics of the soybean seedlings under drought conditions were then investigated. The results obtained showed that the activities of antioxidant enzymes, osmotic regulator contents, as well as the abscisic acid and salicylic acid contents of the plant leaves increased with increasing SNP concentration and treatment time. However, we observed that excessively high SNP concentrations decreased the activities of key nitrogen metabolism enzymes significantly. This study provides a theoretical basis for determining a suitable exogenous NO concentration and application duration. It also highlights strategies for exploring the mechanism by which exogenous NO regulates crop drought resistance.

Helicobacter pylori is a common gram-negative bacterium, which is associated with a variety of gastroenteric diseases, such as gastritis, duodenal ulcer and gastric cancer. Recent studies suggested a potential role of Helicobacter pylori in the pathogenesis of common ocular diseases, such as central serous chorioretinopathy, glaucoma, anterior uveitis and ocular adnexal lymphoma. Helicobacter pylori might affect the pathophysiological process of ocular diseases through oxidative damage, circulatory disorders and immune injury. Some studies also suggested that eradication of Helicobacter pylori had certain effects on some ocular diseases. This review aims to summarize current evidence of the Helicobacter pylori in the pathogenesis of common ocular diseases, so as to encourage innovative approaches in the prevention and treatment of these ocular diseases.

Abstract Background Osteosarcoma (OS) has been the most common malignancy of the bone in children and adolescents, and the unsatisfactory prognosis of OS sufferers has long been a hard nut. Here, we delved into the markers with a prognostic value for predicting the prognosis of OS patients. Methods The messenger RNA (mRNA) sequencing data and clinical data of OS were retrieved from a Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) dataset (GSE39058). Next, prognosis-related genes (PRGs) were filtered with the aid of Kaplan–Meier (K-M) curves and Cox regression analysis (CRA). Later, Gene Ontology (GO) biological process analysis was used in verifying the function of different genes. CCK-8 and cell apoptosis assay were performed to evaluate the function of MFNG in U2OS cells. Results Among the obtained genes, Manic Fringe (MFNG) had the closest relevance to prognosis and clinical traits, thus becoming the research object herein. In light of the expression level of MFNG, patients fell into high- and low-MFNG groups. Patients with elevated MFNG expression had a worse prognosis, according to the survival analysis. It was unveiled by the univariate and multivariate analyses that MFNG expression was an independent adverse prognostic factor for disease-free survival in OS patients (p = 0.006). Meanwhile, MFNG expression was linked to gender and tumor recurrence, and it was higher in patients with OS recurrence. Moreover, overexpression of MFNG promoted the cell proliferation and inhibited the cell apoptosis of U2OS cells. Conclusions The expression level of MFNG negatively correlated with OS progression, and as an independent adverse prognostic factor for disease-free survival in OS patients. Moreover, MFNG regulated the cell proliferation and apoptosis of OS cells.

AlCrSiCN specimens with different carbon contents were fabricated by cathodic vacuum arc technique, and the microstructures, mechanical property, tribological and high-speed dry-cutting performance were investigated. The results show that the structural transformation from dense and fine nanocomposite to coarse columnar structures was found for the AlCrSiCN coatings when increasing the C content. The excess carbon was presented in the form of nanocrystalline graphite and/or amorphous carbon. Addition of C also reduces the surface roughness and the micro-hardness. The adhesive strengths of AlCrSiCN coatings (such as C10 and C20 coatings) with a low C content were enhanced, whereas it decreased to a value of Lc2 of 17.7 N when the C content increased to 5.58 at. % for C30 coating. Tribological experiments showed that C atoms reduced the coefficient of friction due to the lubricating effect of nanocrystalline graphite and/or amorphous carbon. The high-speed dry-cutting results also showed that AlCrSiCN-coated tools performed better than those with an AlCrSiN coating, and the coatings (C10) with a lower C content possessed the greatest wear resistance.

The dynamic tensile mechanical properties of 18Ni350 maraging steel (M350) fabricated by wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) was investigated by the split Hopkinson tensile bar (SHTB) and microstructural analysis. The results show that the yield stress (YS) of M350 samples, both in as-built and heat-treated state, increases firstly and then decreases with increasing strain rate. The YS of the as-built sample reaches the maximum value of 2195 MPa at 1230s−1, and that increases to 3395 MPa after heat treatment, due to the precipitation of intermetallic. Compared with the sample in the horizonal direction, the sample in the vertical direction exhibits a higher dynamic strength, due to the preferred growth of columnar crystal along the vertical direction during WAAM process. Under dynamic load, the retained austenite transformed into martensite and the oxide inclusions are cracked, resulting in a heterogeneous fracture morphology. Based on those results the hardening model and the anisotropic model of the strain rate sensitive material fabricated by WAAM were established. The results can provide a guidance for the reliability evaluation of maraging steel fabricated by WAAM under dynamic load conditions.

The cellular structure formed in additive manufactured 316L stainless steel (316L SS) plays a crucial role in achieving strength–ductility synergy. The cellular structure was also found in the 316L SS fabricated by electron beam freeform fabrication process (EBF3), and its microstructural characterization was analyzed. Interrupted tensile tests were carried out to demonstrate the effect of the cellular structure on the mechanical properties. The results showed that the microstructure of the as-deposited 316L SS consisted of the single austenite phase, and the enrichment of Cr and Mo elements was found in the cellular boundary. The orientation of the cellular structure and boundary was similar, and the obvious {100} preferred orientation was parallel to the building direction. The yield strength and fracture elongation of the as-deposited 316L SS parts were 316 MPa and 37.2%, respectively. Its ultimate tensile strength with a value of 632 MPa, was higher than that manufactured by conventional methods. The hardness and elastic modulus in the cellular interior were 2.88 ± 0.11 GPa and 227.45 ± 10.66 GPa, respectively. The cellular boundary had a higher hardness and a lower elastic modulus than the cellular interior. At the initial stage of tensile deformation, the cellular boundary deforms first due to its lower elastic modulus, causing the dislocation pileup and orientation change. The high dislocation density improved the slip resistance leading to the appearance of deformation twins after necking. The micron-dimples and nano-dimples formed in the fracture surface with the deformation of the cellular boundary and interior. Different from 316L SS fabricated by other additive manufacturing processes, the cellular structure improved the strain hardening capacity of the 316L SS fabricated by the EBF3 process.

Abstract When plates with edge cracks in the rolling process is straightened by cyclic tensile and compressive stress, the tip of edge crack always accompanied by stress concentration, which leads to crack propagation. In this paper, damage parameters are imported into the plate straightening model based on determining the GTN damage parameters of magnesium alloy materials by inverse finite element calibration method, the influence of different straightening process schemes and prefabricated V-shaped crack geometry on crack growth is analyzed through the way of the combination of simulation and straightening experiment. The results show that the peak values of equivalent stress and equivalent strain under each straightening roll appear at the crack tip. The value of longitudinal stress and equivalent stain decrease with the distance to crack tip becomes larger. The peak value of longitudinal stress appears when the crack circumferential angle is about 100°, and the crack tip is easy to form crack propagation; when the plate passes roll 2 and roll 4, the equivalent stress and strain concentration at the crack tip are most obvious; when the reduction reaches a certain degree, the void volume fraction (VVF) reaches the VVF of the material breaking; with the increase of the entrance reduction, the number of VVF at the crack tip which reaches the material fracture increases, and the length of crack propagation increases; the stress concentration at the tip of V-shaped crack with large length–width ratio is obvious, and the VVF is more likely to reach the VVF at the time of material fracture, crack initiates and propagates easily.

Abstract Background For patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR mutations, the suggested course of action is epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs). Even with a high disease control rate, a majority of patients develop acquired EGFR-TKIs resistance and eventually advance. To increase the benefits of treatment, clinical trials are increasingly exploring the value of EGFR-TKIs combined with angiogenesis inhibitors as a first-line treatment in advanced NSCLC carrying EGFR mutations. Method Using PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library, to locate published full-text articles in print or online, a thorough literature search was done from the database's inception to February 2021. Additionally, oral presentation RCTs from ESMO and ASCO were obtained. We sifted out RCTs that used EGFR-TKIs along with angiogenesis inhibitors as first-line therapy for advanced EGFR-mutant NSCLC. ORR, AEs, OS, and PFS were the endpoints. Review Manager version 5.4.1 was used for data analysis. Results One thousand eight hundred twenty-one patients were involved in 9 RCTs. According to the results, combining EGFR-TKIs with angiogenesis inhibitors therapy prolonged PFS of advanced EGFR-mutation NSCLC patients on the whole [HR:0.65 (95%CI: 0.59~0.73, P

Abstract Cervical cancer, the fourth most common cancer among females in the world, ranks the second in China. In advanced disease, metastases may be commonly present in the lungs, bones, liver and lymph nodes or elsewhere, but uncommon to the skin. In this report, a 63‐year‐old woman was diagnosed as stage IVB cervical squamous cell cancer in January 2021. The patient was scheduled for concurrent chemoradiotherapy; however, a metastatic lesion of skin was proved by biopsy during the process of treatment. She died 1 month after confirmed skin metastases. Cutaneous metastasis of cervical cancer may predict the mix of lymphatic and hematogenous metastasis and the rapid fatal termination.

Abstract Background To investigate the prognostic relevance of the time to interval debulking surgery (TTS) and the time to postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy (TTC) after the completion of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT). Methods A retrospective real-word study included 658 patients with histologically confirmed advanced epithelial ovarian cancer who received NACT at seven tertiary hospitals in China from June 2008 to June 2020. TTS was defined as the time interval from the completion of NACT to the time of interval debulking surgery (IDS). TTC was defined as the time interval from the completion of NACT to the initiation of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy (PACT). Results The median TTS and TTC were 25 (IQR, 20–29) and 40 (IQR, 33–49) days, respectively. Patients with TTS > 25 days were older (55 vs. 53 years, P = 0.012) and received more NACT cycles (median, 3 vs. 2, P = 0.002). Similar results were observed in patients with TTC > 40 days. In the multivariate analyses, TTS and TTC were not associated with PFS when stratified by median, quartile, or integrated as continuous variables (all P > 0.05). However, TTS and TTC were significantly associated with worse OS when stratified by median (P = 0.018 and 0.018, respectively), quartile (P = 0.169, 0.014, 0.027 and 0.012, 0.001, 0.033, respectively), or integrated as continuous variables (P = 0.018 and 0.011, respectively). Similarly, increasing TTS and TTC intervals were associated with a higher risk of death (P trend = 0.016 and 0.031, respectively) but not with recurrence (P trend = 0.103 and 0.381, respectively). Conclusion The delays of IDS and PACT after the completion of NACT have adverse impacts on OS but no impacts on PFS, which indicates that reducing delays of IDS and PACT might ameliorate the outcomes of ovarian cancer patients treated with NACT.

Abstract Background Mucinous epithelial ovarian cancer (mEOC) is a relatively uncommon subtype of ovarian cancer with special prognostic features, but there is insufficient research in this area. This study aimed to develop a nomogram for the cancer-specific survival (CSS) of mEOC based on Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database and externally validate it in National Union of Real World Gynecological Oncology Research and Patient Management (NUWA) platform from China. Methods Patients screened from SEER database were allocated into training and internal validation cohort in a ratio of 7: 3, with those from NUWA platform as an external validation cohort. Significant factors selected by Cox proportional hazard regression were applied to establish a nomogram for 3-year and 5-year CSS. The performance of nomogram was assessed by concordance index, calibration curves and Kaplan-Meier (K-M) curves. Results The training cohort (n = 572) and internal validation cohort (n = 246) were filtered out from SEER database. The external validation cohort contained 186 patients. Abstract Background Spindle cell tumors, called solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs), are of mesenchymal origin, and can develop in the orbit. As ‘intermediate malignancy’ tumors, only a small percentage show malignant behavior, such as invasion of surrounding tissue. Case presentation A 57-year-old woman presented with a 19-year history of a giant right orbital mass. Orbital computed tomography (CT) revealed an inhomogeneously-enhancing mass compressing and engulfing the eyeball and optic nerve. She underwent lid-sparing orbital exenteration. Microscopic characteristics and immunohistochemistry (IHC) tests were indicative of a benign SFT. No recurrence was observed at the 4-year follow-up. Conclusion Early and complete tumor resection is recommended.

Abstract Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is an aggressive solid tumour with a 5-year survival rate ranging from 7% to 20%. It is, therefore, urgent to identify novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets to improve the outcomes of patients with CCA. SPRY-domain containing protein 4 (SPRYD4) contains SPRY domains that modulate protein–protein interaction in various biological processes; however, its role in cancer development is insufficiently explored. This study is the first to identify that SPRYD4 is downregulated in CCA tissues using multiple public datasets and a CCA cohort. Furthermore, the low expression of SPRYD4 was significantly associated with unfavourable clinicopathological characteristics and poor prognosis in patients with CCA, indicating that SPRYD4 could be a prognosis indicator of CCA. In vitro experiments revealed that SPRYD4 overexpression inhibited CCA cells proliferation and migration, whereas the proliferative and migratory capacity of CCA cells was enhanced after SPRYD4 deletion. Moreover, flow cytometry showed that SPRYD4 overexpression triggered the S/G2 cell phase arrest and promoted apoptosis in CCA cells. Furthermore, the tumour-inhibitory effect of SPRYD4 was validated in vivo using xenograft mouse models. SPRYD4 also showed a close association with tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes and important immune checkpoints including PD1, PD-L1 and CTLA4 in CCA. In conclusion, this study elucidated the role of SPRYD4 during CCA development and highlighted SPRYD4 as a novel biomarker and tumour suppressor in CCA.

Abstract Background Anthocyanins, a class of specialized metabolites that are ubiquitous among plant species, have attracted a great deal of attention from plant biologists due to their chemical diversity. They confer purple, pink, and blue colors that attract pollinators, protect plants from ultraviolet (UV) radiation, and scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) to facilitate plant survival during abiotic stress. In a previous study, we identified Beauty Mark (BM) in Gossypium barbadense as an activator of the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway; this gene also directly led to the formation of a pollinator-attracting purple spot. Results Here, we found that a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) (C/T) within the BM coding sequence was responsible for variations in this trait. Transient expression assays of BM from G. barbadense and G. hirsutum in Nicotiana benthamiana using luciferase reporter gene also suggested that SNPs in the coding sequence could be responsible for the absent beauty mark phenotype observed in G. hirsutum. We next demonstrated that the beauty mark and UV floral patterns are associated phenotypes and that UV exposure resulted in increased ROS generation in floral tissues; BM thus contributed to ROS scavenging in G. barbadense and wild cotton plants with flowers containing the beauty mark. Furthermore, a nucleotide diversity analysis and Tajima’s D Test suggested that there have been strong selective sweeps in the GhBM locus during G. hirsutum domestication. Conclusions Taken together, these results suggest that cotton species differ in their approaches to absorbing or reflecting UV light and thus exhibit variations in floral anthocyanin biosynthesis to scavenge reactive ROS; furthermore, these traits are related to the geographic distribution of cotton species.

Abstract Background Microcalcifications are suggested to be an indicator of thyroid malignancy, especially for papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), nonetheless, the association between macrocalcification and PTC is underexplored. Furthermore, screening methods like ultrasonography and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (US-FNAB) are limited in evaluating macro-calcified thyroid nodules. Thus, we aimed to investigate the relationship between macrocalcification and PTC. We also explored the diagnostic efficiency of US-FNAB and proto-Oncogene Proteins B-raf V600E (BRAF V600E) mutation in macro-calcified thyroid nodules evaluation. Methods A retrospective research of 2645 thyroid nodules from 2078 participants was performed and divided into three groups as non-, micro-, and macro-calcified for further PTC incidence comparison. Besides, a total of 100 macro-calcified thyroid nodules with both results of US-FNAB and BRAF V600E mutation were screened out for subsequent evaluation of diagnostic efficiency. Abstract Optically transparent wood has been fabricated by structure-retaining delignification of wood and subsequent infiltration of thermo- or photocurable polymer resins but still limited by the intrinsic low mesopore volume of the delignified wood. Here we report a facile approach to fabricate strong transparent wood composites using the wood xerogel which allows solvent-free infiltration of resin monomers into the wood cell wall under ambient conditions. The wood xerogel with high specific surface area (260 m2 g–1) and high mesopore volume (0.37 cm3 g–1) is prepared by evaporative drying of delignified wood comprising fibrillated cell walls at ambient pressure. The mesoporous wood xerogel is compressible in the transverse direction and provides precise control of the microstructure, wood volume fraction, and mechanical properties for the transparent wood composites without compromising the optical transmittance. Transparent wood composites of large size and high wood volume fraction (50%) are successfully prepared, demonstrating potential scalability of the method.

Abstract Metabolic reprogramming has been defined as a key hall mark of human tumors. However, metabolic heterogeneity in gastric cancer has not been elucidated. Here we separated the TCGA-STAD dataset into two metabolic subtypes. The differences between subtypes were elaborated in terms of transcriptomics, genomics, tumor-infiltrating cells, and single-cell resolution. We found that metabolic subtype 1 is predominantly characterized by low metabolism, high immune cell infiltration. Subtype 2 is mainly characterized by high metabolism and low immune cell infiltration. From single-cell resolution, we found that the high metabolism of subtype 2 is dominated by epithelial cells. Not only epithelial cells, but also various immune cells and stromal cells showed high metabolism in subtype 2 and low metabolism in subtype 1. Our study established a classification of gastric cancer metabolic subtypes and explored the differences between subtypes from multiple dimensions, especially the single-cell resolution.

Abstract In this paper, we study the resonant state X(6900). The scattering amplitudes of coupled channels, $$J/\psi J/\psi $$ J / ψ J / ψ - $$J/\psi \psi (2S)$$ J / ψ ψ ( 2 S ) - $$J/\psi \psi (3770)$$ J / ψ ψ ( 3770 ) , are constructed with the interaction of four vector mesons described by effective Lagrangians. The amplitudes are calculated up to one loop, decomposed by partial wave projection, and unitarized by Pad $$\acute{e}$$ e ´ approximation. These amplitudes are fitted to the latest experimental data sets of di- $$J/\psi $$ J / ψ and $$J/\psi \psi (2S)$$ J / ψ ψ ( 2 S ) invariant mass spectra of LHCb, CMS, and ATLAS. High-quality solutions are obtained. With these partial wave amplitudes, we extract the pole parameters of the X(6900). Its quantum number is likely to be $$0^{++}$$ 0 + + . According to the pole counting rule as well as analysis of the phase shifts of the partial waves, it supports our previous conclusion that the X(6900) prefers to be a compact tetra-quark.

Triadica sebifera is an important landscaping tree species because of its colorful autumn leaves. In recent years, some cultivars have been bred and licensed, but it can be difficult to identify them from their morphological traits due to their similar phenotypes. To explore the genetic relationships and construct a fingerprint of the cultivars, the licensed T. sebifera cultivars were analyzed using SSR markers. A total of 179 alleles were identified among the 21 cultivars at 16 SSR loci, and these alleles exhibited a high level of genetic diversity (He = 0.86). The genetic variations mainly occurred among cultivars based on an analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA). According to phylogenetic analysis, principal coordinate analysis (PCoA), and Bayesian clustering analysis, the genetic relationships were independent of geographic distances, which may be mainly due to transplantations between regions. Some cultivars with different leaf colors showed obvious genetic differentiation and may be preliminary candidates for cross-breeding. Finally, the fingerprint for the licensed cultivars was constructed with two SSR markers. The results of this study can provide technical support for the application and legal protection of licensed Triadica sebifera cultivars.

The exterior orientation parameters (EOPs) provided by the self-developed position and orientation system (POS) of the first Chinese airborne three-line scanner mapping system, AMS-3000, are impacted by jitter, resulting in waveform distortions in rectified images. This study introduces a Gaussian Markov EOP refinement method enhanced by cubic spline interpolation to mitigate stochastic jitter errors. Our method first projects tri-view images onto a mean elevation plane using POS-provided EOPs to generate Level 1 images for dense matching. Matched points are then back-projected to the original Level 0 images for the bundle adjustment based on the Gaussian Markov model. Finally, cubic spline interpolation is employed to obtain EOPs for lines without observations. Experimental comparisons with the piecewise polynomial model (PPM) and Lagrange interpolation model (LIM) demonstrate that our method outperformed these models in terms of geo-referencing accuracy, EOP refinement metric, and visual performance. Specifically, the line fitting accuracies of four linear features on Level 1 images were evaluated to assess EOP refinement performance. The refinement performance of our method showed improvements of 50%, 45.1%, 29.9%, and 44.6% over the LIM, and 12.9%, 69.2%, 69.6%, and 49.3% over the PPM. Additionally, our method exhibited the best visual performance on these linear features.

With the extensive development of assisted reproductive technology, in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) have enabled successful pregnancies for some infertility patients. However, pregnancy leads to endocrine and immune function changes that result in decreased immunity, providing an opportunity for mycobacterium tuberculosis infection or reactivation. Hematogenous disseminated pulmonary tuberculosis is a dangerous complication of pregnancy after IVF-ET, which can lead to adverse outcomes. In this case report, we present a patient with normal immune function who developed hematogenous disseminated tuberculosis after IVF-ET. We retrospectively analyzed the clinical manifestations, test results and imaging findings of the patient while reviewing relevant literature. We recommend conducting genital tuberculosis screening and screening for latent tuberculosis infection before IVF-ET. Healthcare providers should maintain high vigilance for active tuberculosis during pregnancy when unexplained high fever, cough with sputum production, early vaginal bleeding occurs despite repeated broad-spectrum antibiotic treatment.

Existing reporting checklists lack the necessary level of detail and comprehensiveness to be used in guidelines on Chinese patent medicines (CPM). This study aims to develop a reporting guidance for CPM guidelines based on the Reporting Items of Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT) statement. We extracted information from CPM guidelines, existing reporting standards for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and the RIGHT statement and its extensions to form the initial pool of reporting items for CPM guidelines. Seventeen experts from diverse disciplines participated in two rounds of Delphi process to refine and clarify the items. Finally, 18 authoritative consultants in the field of TCM and reporting guidelines reviewed and approved the RIGHT for CPM checklist. We added 16 new items and modified two items of the original RIGHT statement to form the RIGHT for CPM checklist, which contains 51 items grouped into seven sections and 23 topics. The new and revised items are distributed across four sections (Basic information, Background, Evidence, and Recommendations) and seven topics: title/subtitle (one new and one revised item), Registration information (one new item), Brief description of the health problem (four new items), Guideline development groups (one revised item), Health care questions (two new items), Recommendations (two new items), and Rationale/explanation for recommendations (six new items). The RIGHT for CPM checklist is committed to providing users with guidance for detailed, comprehensive and transparent reporting, and help practitioners better understand and implement CPM guidelines.
