In a three-year prospective study of acute cerebrovascular accident patients admitted to a geriatric unit within 72 hours of the onset, 12.7% had what was considered to be an associated acute myocardial infarction. In tbe majority of cases, 71%, there was no clinical indication of an acute myocardial infarction and, had it not been for electrocardiographic and enzyme studies, the concurrence of these two conditions might not have come to light. The possible explanations for the concurrence of these two conditions are explored. Patients were followed-up for five years. The mortality rate for the combined acute myocardial and cerebral infarction cases admitted to hospital was 53% in six weeks and 64% in one year, compared with 26% and 42%, respectively, in those strokes uncomplicated by a cardiac infarction. Only one patient hae survived for five years. The recognition of such cases is important in terms of management and prognosis and this may be achieved by ECG recordings followed by enzyme studies in all cases of acute stroke admitted to hospital. Skin biopsy specimens were taken from lesions on the flexor aspect of the forearm of five male patients before, during and after treatment with a regime using dithranol paste. On histological examination, capillary abnormalities remained after completion of treatment. An increased dermal infiltrate was noted underlying areas of persisting parakeratosis. A marked reduction in the thickness of the prickle cell layer occurred during the first three days of treatment but thereafter the reduction was not significant. Lumbar cerebrospinal fluid and arterial blood acid-base state were assessed in 19 patients within 24 hours of an acute cerebrovascular accident. Those with haemorrhage into the C.S.F. showed a lower C.S.F. pH and higher C.S.F. lactate than those without haemorrhage but the , was similar in the two groups, suggesting that this greater C.S.F. acidity was not responsible for a greater degree of hyperventilation. In those without haemorrhage an inverse relation was found between C.S.F. pH and arterial , suggesting that a non-chemical ventilatory drive—for example, due to central neurological damage—was responsible for the acid-base changes observed. The article discusses an Indian study which described the ultra-structural changes of small intestine of piglets naturally infected with rotavirus. The researchers found that the structural alterations in the piglets' intestinal mucosa were confined to lower and middle portions of small intestines. They also noticed some changes of villous atrophy and fusion in the duodenal mucosa along with denudation of villous tips. Observations concerning the jejuna mucosa, ileum and villi are also noted.

The article discusses a study which aimed to immunohistochemically examined classically swine fever virus (CSFV) antigen in the tissue samples collected from the infected pigs from a slaughterhouse in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh in India. Results show that the 1120 cases examined, 110 cases showed lesions suggestive of classically swine fever (CSF). Of the 110 cases, 64 were acute and revealed exudative conjunctivitis, haemorrhagic lymph nodes, tonsillar ulcers, splenic infarcts and haemorrhage.

This article presents a study which investigated the serological prevalence of transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) in pigs. The researchers utilized an assay that could differentiate antibodies to TGEV and antigenitically related porcine respiratory coronavirus (PRCV). Out of 174 serum samples analyzed, 35 samples were found positive for TGEV antibody.
