The number of journals in anthropology has been increasing rapidly in the last decade. This review covers 88 journals in cultural anthropology that started in the period 1975-1980. The publication of new journals reflects the growth of academic departments of anthropology throughout the world and the increasing specialization of cultural anthropologists. The largest number of new journals are in medical anthropology and the ethnic arts. Over half of the journals focus on one geographic area. This article presents information on orthodox Jewish community in the United States. The present study was conducted among the persons directly connected with the Torah Academy--its teachers, students, parents of its students, and friends and supporters of the school. Persons who support this Orthodox Jewish School represent a small segment of the North City Jewish population. However, this is just one segment of several which the study by B. Kramer and S. Leventman did riot sample, and, as will soon become evident, these other Jewish people differ in some ways from the second and third generation Jewish families interviewed by Kramer and Leventman. By investigating the behavior and attitudes of this Orthodox minority of the Jewish minority of North City, it will he possible to obtain a view of the kinds of people who support a Hebrew Day School, and to determine in what ways the, most devout members of the Orthodox Jewish community differ from the Jewish community at large. It will also be possible to indicate the degree of persistence of Orthodox Judaism in the American acculturative setting for as has been pointed out in reference to the shtetl of Eastern Europe.
