The electrochemical behavior of 304 austenitic stainless steel (304ASS) was studied by different methods such as potentiodynamic polarization, EIS, SEM, and Raman spectroscopy. Potentiodynamic polarization data suggest that 304 ASS could be more susceptible to corrosion due to the presence of H2S. The coexistence of H2S and Cl−-type ionic species in 304 ASS lead to a decrease in the corrosion resistance as compared to the H2S-free condition. It is seen that CO2 helps form a passive layer on the metallic surface, which eventually decreases its corrosion rate. Raman spectroscopy analysis shows that the passive layer developed under different condition consists of FeCO3, FeS2, Fe2O3, Fe(OH)2, etc. SEM images further confirm that elemental S− and Cl− can infiltrate the passive film and cause the passive film to deteriorate. The high cost of Pt-based electrode materials limits the commercialization of fuel cells and their subsequent application in renewable energy production. It is thus necessary to develop economical, high-performance electrodes alongside biofuels to reduce the pollution associated with the production of energy. Tin dioxide–copper foil (SnO2–Cu) electrode materials are herein developed using an electrodeposition process. Cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, and potentiodynamic polarization methods are used to electrochemically characterize the electrode materials, with the results revealing that their excellent catalytic properties result in them delivering a high current. The surface morphologies of the developed electrodes are examined using scanning electron microscopy, with the results showing that upon an increase in the deposition time, a finer deposit of SnO2 is formed on the surface of the Cu foil. Consequently, electrochemical oxidation using an enhanced surface area of the material leads to it exhibiting a high current and excellent corrosion resistance. Powder X-ray diffraction was used to confirm the successful depositing of SnO2 on the surface of Cu. The fuel cell fabricated using the SnO2–Cu electrode is promising for use in clean energy generation, as it can be prepared at low cost compared to conventionally used electrodes. The prime aim of this paper is to probe the flow of micropolar nanofluid towards an inclined stretching surface adjacent to the stagnation region with Brownian motion and thermophoretic impacts. The chemical reaction and heat generation or absorption are also taken into account. The energy and mass transport of the micropolar nanofluid flow towards an inclined surface are discussed. The numerical solution is elucidated for the converted non-linear ordinary differential equation from the set of partial nonlinear differential equations via compatible similarity transformations. A converted system of ordinary differential equations is solved via the Keller-box scheme. The stretching velocity and external velocity are supposed to change linearly by the distance from the stagnation point. The impacts of involved parameters on the concerned physical quantities such as skin friction, Sherwood number, and energy exchange are discussed. These results are drawn through the graphs and presented in the tables. The energy and mass exchange rates show a direct relation with the stagnation point. The present article is devoted to examine the significance of double stratification in third grade stagnation point flow towards a radiative stretching cylinder. The stagnation point is discussed categorically. Analysis is scrutinized in the presence of Thermophoresis, Brownian diffusion, double stratification and heat source/sink. Suitable typical transformations are used to drive the system of ordinary differential equation. The governing system is subjected to optimal homotopy analysis method (OHAM) for convergent series solutions. The impact of pertinent fluid parameters on the velocity field, temperature distribution and concentration of the nanoparticles is shown graphically. Numerical data is compiled in tabulare form for skin friction, Nusselt and Sherwood numbers to analyze the variation caused by the present model and to see the impact for industrial and engineering point of view. A cobalt(III) complex, [Co(L) 3 ](DMF) (1) of Schiff base ligand HL, 2-((E)-(benzylimino)methyl)-4-bromophenol is prepared and single crystal X-ray structural analysis have also been performed. The structures of complex 1 showed hexa-coordinated mononuclear systems that adopt octahedral geometry. The complex has also exhibited the supramolecular networks through non-covalent interactions like H-bonding, C–Hπ stacking. Moreover, the complex 1 is very effective in the catalytic fixation of carbon dioxide in propergyl alcohols to produce α -alkylidene cyclic carbonates. The catalytic production of α -alkylidene cyclic carbonates have been carried out through carboxylative cyclization of propargyl alcohols using CO 2 balloon of 1 atm pressure at 80 °C. Solvent free condition (green synthesis) made this catalytic protocol eco-friendly towards the environment. Utilizing various substrates of propargyl alcohols moderate to high percentage yield (62–95%) of respective α-alkylidene cyclic carbonates product have been isolated over this catalytic reaction. Among the various technologies for hydrogen production, the renewable energy driven water electrolysis has emerged as a favorable method. In this respect, the present research proposes and analyses a novel and efficient medium-temperature driven geothermal system for green hydrogen production. An alkaline electrolyzer is deployed for hydrogen production which is powered by a double flash steam geothermal power cycle. To boost the power generation (and hence the hydrogen production amount) the double flash cycle is equipped with a self-superheating process, which superheats the saturated vapor at turbine inlet without using another external heat source. Thermodynamic evaluations, based on exergy concept, along with economic analysis are carried out to assess the hydrogen production amount, plant exergy efficiency and total cost rate, and the unit hydrogen price. In order to represent a comprehensive investigation of the plant performance, parametric analyses along with single- and multi-criteria optimizations were conducted. The results revealed that, for 1 kg / s of geothermal brine, the capacity of hydrogen production of the proposed plant is ∼ 1.5 − 3 kg / h under various operating conditions. It is found that, under multi-objective optimum operating conditions, the plant yields 12.63% exergy efficiency and its total cost rate is calculated to be 10.42 $/h. However, if the plant is to be optimized for maximum exergy efficiency, the value of 14.25 % is achievable which will result in increment of total cost rate to 11.97 $/h. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Landfill gas (LFG) is an accessible, inexpensive, and carbon-rich source, and due to its methane content, it can also be used as a fuel. In this paper, a novel polygeneration structure is presented that uses LFG as the input fuel as well as geothermal energy to produce valuable products, including electricity, methanol, freshwater, heating, and cooling. The configuration is made of biogas combustion unit, binary geothermal power plant, cooling water production unit, Kalina power cycle, desalination unit, water electrolysis unit, and methanol synthesis and purification unit. The methanol synthesis unit is modified using a scrubbing column, resulting in recovery of methanol without loss. Aspen HYSYS application is used to model this procedure, and it is examined from a 4E (energy, exergy, economic, and environmental) standpoint. The findings show that a total of 55.46% of energy and 77.29% of exergy efficiencies are reached. From the environmental standpoint, it is found that the proposed structure has negative emissions, and its carbon dioxide (CO 2) footprint is equal to −0.161 kg CO2 /kg prod. In addition, the total CO 2 emission of 46,780 kg/h is calculated. Concerning the economic aspect, the cost rate of produced methanol, heating, cooling, and freshwater are found at 0.268 $/kg MeOH , 1.01 $/kg LPS , 0.26 $/kg CW , and 0.7 $/kg FW , respectively. Considering the importance of efficient thermal integration for a gas turbine cycle using its energetic flue gas, the current paper proposes an eco-friendly and efficient process integrated into a gas turbine cycle. The newly designed polygeneration structure produces power, hot water, and methanol. The components of this system include a heat provider unit, a direct carbon dioxide hydrogenation unit for the production of methanol, an ammonia Rankine cycle, a proton exchange membrane electrolyzer, a supercritical carbon dioxide power cycle, and two organic Rankine cycles. The feasibility of the proposed model is evaluated using a comprehensive multi-variable assessment from energy, exergy, economic, and environmental approaches. This system exhibits a power production capacity of 17197.23 kW and a methanol generation rate of 0.7573 kg/s. Also, the total irreversibility is equal to 68161.18 kW. Besides, the total energy and exergy efficiencies are found as 68.73% and 32.03%, respectively. This model's carbon dioxide emission is 18667.36 kg CO2 /h, and its carbon footprint equals 0.2196 kg CO2 /kWh. Furthermore, the economic analysis reveals that the project has an annual total cost of 194,602,338 and a net present value of 686,221,616. The present study focuses on evaluating the corrosion resistance of 316L stainless steel substrates with Polyvinylcarbazole (PVK)/TiO 2 hybrid nanocomposite coatings (HNC). Using the chronoamperometry approach, the HNC were electrochemically synthesized on 316L stainless steel substrates, incorporating various weight (%) 1 %, 2 %, 3 % of TiO 2 nanoparticles into the PVK matrix. The findings of the surface morphology investigation verified that the 316L SS had a dense and smooth PVK/TiO 2 coating. A low surface roughness and high contact value of the PVK/TiO 2 coatings are also responsible for the decrease in corrosion rate of the 316L SS. The corrosion protection efficiency of the PVK/TiO 2 HNC were investigated through open circuit potential (OCP) measurement, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The corrosion rate obtained from the polarization studies of the HNC coatings as follows PVKT-2 < PVKT-3 < PVKT-1 < PVK < 316L SS. Results revealed that an optimal loading of 2 wt% TiO 2 nanoparticles significantly enhanced the corrosion resistance of the coating. The enhanced electrochemical impedance response for PVK/TiO 2 coatings was verified by EIS experiments. The study demonstrates that the incorporation of TiO 2 nanoparticles into the PVK matrix effectively creates a barrier layer at the coating-metal interface, inhibiting the entry of aggressive ions. Microhardness studies revealed the increase in hardness value of the PVK and PVK/TiO 2 coatings indicated the protective nature of the coating and provided high mechanical strength to 316L SS. The tape adhesion tests carried out on the coated specimens also indicated a good adhesion of the PVK/TiO 2 on the 316L SS surface. Severe osseous defects are treated with biometals and surgical interventions. Titanium and its alloys dominate the world of orthopaedic implants because of their irresistible mechanical properties and compatibility with the body. Nevertheless, the intrinsic bio-inertness affects their integration with the body. Doping with rare-earth elements ('vitamins' of the industries) redefines the material properties and upcasts the smartness in them. The study discusses the coating of titania nanotubes with europium and details their response in terms of material properties, corrosion and cell compatibility. The obsession of the cells towards the nanomorphology was taken into consideration and partially coated europium on the TNTA (Eu-TNTA) surface. The crystallographic morphology detected a peak shift of 0.17° that affirmed the partial incorporation of Eu in the TNTA surface when subjected to the heating process. The uncompromised corrosion resistance of Eu-TNTA was proof of their coating integrity. Also, the maximum corrosion resistance was obtained at the coating concentration of 2 mM. The concurrent effect of the Eu and TNTA induced the spider web-like connections in the nanotubes and further developed into nanolamellar structures forming cauliflower morphology. This paper proposes utilizing landfill gas, obtained from landfilling activities, as a viable substitute for fossil fuels. In this study, an innovative heat design process for a landfill gas-fueled power plant is employed, representing a novel contribution to system development. The innovative cascade heat recovery process utilized in this method facilitates an eco-friendly multigeneration practice, resulting in reduced thermodynamic irreversibility and air pollution as well as an increase in the capacity of main products. Hence, the entire system consists of a bio power plant, a transcritical CO 2 cycle, a low-pressure steam generation unit, a refrigeration cycle, a multi-effect desalination, and a liquefied natural gas cold utilization unit. The simulation is conducted by the Aspen HYSYS software, examining various aspects such as energy, exergy, economics, and environment. The results indicate that the energy and exergy efficiencies of the process are 79.96% and 32.93%, respectively. Moreover, the cost per unit exergy and specific CO 2 emissions amount to 87.16 $/GJ and 0.2732 kg/kWh, respectively. Besides, a parametric study is performed based on the gas turbine's outlet pressure, the flue gas temperature leaving the transcritical CO 2 cycle and multi-effect desalination, and the liquefied natural gas flow rate. Obtained results demonstrate that the specific CO 2 emissions and cost per unit exergy face an increase with increasing the gas turbine's outlet pressure. The utilization of biomass feedstock in the energy system for sustainable production is essential due to its renewable nature and high energy density. However, the primary challenge lies in designing environmentally friendly biomass-use structures. This research introduces a novel trigeneration system that integrates power, cooling, and heat production through biomass combustion to address this issue. As another novelty in system development, the proposed system includes a carbon dioxide capture unit, further enhancing the system. The proposed framework consists of several subsystems: an organic Rankine cycle, an absorption chiller, a carbon dioxide capture cycle utilizing monoethanolamine solvent, a liquefied natural gas regasification unit, and a low-pressure steam production boiler. The newly developed system is modeled using the Aspen HYSYS software and is assessed from thermodynamic, economic, and environmental perspectives. Also, a parametric analysis is conducted to examine the impact of key design parameters on the system's performance. Based on the study's findings, it can be observed that the energy and exergy efficiencies amount to 58.4 % and 17.09 %, respectively. In addition, the suggested procedure exhibits a total exergy destruction of 53,636 kW. The findings of the environmental impact assessment indicate that the shift from power generation to trigeneration scenario results in a substantial decrease in carbon dioxide emissions. Specifically, the emission reduction potential ranges from 0.24 to 0.041 kg/kWh. Furthermore, the economic evaluation shows that the system reaches a cost per unit exergy of 0.249 $/kWh. A fluorescent sensor, ( E )- N '-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)-3,5-dimethyl-1 H -pyrazole-1-carbohydrazide (HMPC), was designed and synthesized for the selective fluorescence recognition of Zn 2+ in semi-aqueous media. Notably, HMPC exhibited a red-shifted, two-fold fluorescence "turn-on" enhancement in response to Zn 2+ at 490 nm, with a detection limit of 1.68 μM, which is significantly lower than the WHO guideline (76.0 μM). The binding constant of HMPC with Zn 2+ was calculated to be 5 × 10 4 M -1 . The fluorescence enhancement of HMPC in the presence of Zn 2+ is attributed to the suppression of the PET process and the enhancement of ICT, leading to fluorescence via the CHEF mechanism. The sensing mechanism was demonstrated through UV-vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, Job plots, ESI-MS, and DFT calculations. For biological applications, cytotoxicity and cell imaging studies were performed using MCF-7 cells. Molecular docking studies revealed a high binding energy of HMPC (Δ G = -7.1 kcal mol -1 ) with the 4,5-diaryl isoxazole HSP90 chaperone protein, suggesting its potential as an anticancer agent. Additionally, its binding energy of -6.5 kcal mol -1 with the HDAC8 protein indicates greater efficacy than suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA) in inhibiting HDAC, as it binds more strongly to the HDAC8 protein than SAHA (-7.4 kcal mol -1 ). Furthermore, due to its favorable ADME profile, HMPC may be suitable for oral administration, enhancing its potential as an anticancer drug.

3,4-Dihydropyrimidin-2(1 H )-ones (DHPMs) and 1,4-dihydropyridines (DHPs), prepared by applying the Biginelli and Hantzsch reaction protocols, respectively, are well-documented nitrogen-containing heterocycles with intriguing pharmacological properties. The aqueous solution of biogenic carboxylic acids renewably produced from biomass via catalytic or enzymatic processes can be used as a sustainable catalyst and green reaction media for synthesizing DHPs and DHPMs. This work evaluates the efficacy of various biogenic acids in their aqueous solutions as catalysts for synthesizing DHPs and DHPMs from substituted benzaldehydes. Among the studied biogenic acids, gluconic acid aqueous solution (GAAS) proved to be the most efficient, safe, non-volatile, and recyclable catalyst. The reaction afforded excellent isolated yields (≥85%) of spectroscopically pure DHPs and DHPMs under optimized conditions and employed a straightforward work-up procedure. Aqueous ammonia was successfully employed instead of ammonium salt to improve the atom economy of DHPs. This work reports a high-yielding, organic solvent-free, gram-scale synthesis of novel Knoevenagel condensation products by reacting carbohydrate-derived 5-substituted-2-furaldehydes (SFLs) with active methylene compounds (AMCs) using various organic amines and inorganic bases as catalysts. Among the base catalysts examined, piperidine performed best, affording satisfactory selectivity and yield of the targeted Knoevenagel condensation products owing to the subtle balance between its nucleophilicity and basicity. The reaction was optimized on various reaction parameters, such as temperature, duration, solvent, catalyst loading, and molar ratio of the reactants. Even though the SFLs exhibited significantly different reactivity, a general synthetic protocol was developed successfully, affording good to excellent isolated yields (70-96%) of the novel Knoevenagel condensation products at ambient temperature. The rapid exhaustion of fossil fuels and the ozone depletion caused by the excessive usage of the fossil fuels has prompted researchers to look towards bioinspired designs for both propulsion and energy extraction purposes. Limited amount of work has been done to present the effects of airfoil shape on the aerodynamic forces on flapping foils. In this paper, we examine in detail the effect of airfoil camber and its position on flapping foil performance in both energy extraction and propulsion regimes. We also examine the effect of reflex camber on flapping foil performance in both flow regimes. In total, 42 airfoils are analyzed using the NACA 4 and 5-series cross-sections. The man objective of this research is to identify a trend, between airfoil shape and aerodynamic forces. The database created as a result will be used in the future work for designing a hydrokinetic turbine and a bio-inspired unmanned aerial vehicle. The results from the numerical simulations indicate that the airfoil shape has significant effects on the time averaged drag force on the airfoil in both flow regimes. Casting of aluminum with different concentration of alloying elements such as Mg, Mn (similar to that in AA5083) with additional percentages of 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3% Ti, are carried out using graphite crucible. The as-cast microstructure is modified by hot rolling to a thickness of ~ 2 mm. Mechanical and metallurgical and characterization of heat-treated thin sheets are carried out using tensile testing, hardness measurement, metallography, image analysis and optical microscope. By increasing the Ti content, the results show grain refinement and increase in the formation of Al3Ti which reflected positively on the mechanical properties. Specifically, Ultimate tensile strength is increased from 260 MPa (0 wt% Ti) to 345 MPa (0.3 wt% Ti) when using water quenching, 32.6% improvement for air cooling, and 23.3% for furnace cooling. Electrochemical corrosion behavior of heat-treated water quenched, air cooled and furnace cooled samples were tested in 3.5% NaCl solution. The results show that the heat-treated alloys have very good resistance against corrosion, while by increasing the Ti content, the corrosion rate increases due to the grain refinement phenomena., (© 2023. Countless research has suggested Yttria-stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) to be a top candidate for being implemented as thermal barrier coatings (TBC). However, when exposed to prolonged service, temperature and stress variations succeed in initiating a catastrophic phase transformation from tetragonal to monoclinic structure in Zirconia. Hence, the estimation of endurance for YSZ-based TBC is necessary to minimize failure in such situations. The main purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between tribological investigations and the estimated lifespan of YSZ coatings accurately. The study used various methods such as wear resistance testing, optical profilometry, specific wear rate, and coefficient of friction to estimate the maximum durability of TBCs. The research also provided insights into the composition and microstructure of the TBC system and found the optimized concentration of Yttrium doping to be 3.5 wt %. The study discovered that erosion was the main cause of roughness depreciation from SN to S1000. The estimation of the service life was primarily made based on optical profilometry, specific wear rate (SWR), coefficient of friction (COF) and wear resistance values which were further supported by the results of chemical characterization of the samples through electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), wavelength dispersive spectroscopy (WDS) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis. Epoxy is considered to be the most popular polymer and is widely used in various engineering applications. However, environmental considerations require natural materials-based epoxy. This necessity results in further utilization of natural materials as a natural reinforcement for different types of composites. Corn cob is an example of a natural material that can be considered as an agricultural waste. The objective of the present work is to improve the economic feasibility of corn cob by converting the original corn cob material into powder to be utilized in reinforcing epoxy-based composites. In the experiment, the corn cob was crushed and ground using a grain miller before it was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The corn cob powder was added to the epoxy with different weight fractions (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 wt%). In order to prevent corn cob powder agglomeration and ensure homogeneous distribution of the reinforcement inside the epoxy, the ultrasonic technique and a mechanical stirrer were used. Then, the composite's chemical compositions were evaluated using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The mechanical experiments showed an improvement in the Young's modulus and compressive yield strength of the epoxy composites, increasing corn cob up to 8 wt% by 21.26% and 22.22%, respectively. Furthermore, tribological tests revealed that reinforcing epoxy with 8 wt% corn cob can decrease the coefficient of friction by 35% and increase wear resistance by 4.8%. A finite element model for the frictional process was constructed to identify different contact stresses and evaluate the load-carrying capacity of the epoxy composites. The finite element model showed agreement with the experimental results. An epoxy containing 8 wt% corn cob demonstrated the optimal mechanical and tribological properties. The rubbed surfaces were investigated by SEM to identify the wear mechanism of different composites.
