Objectives: To determine the response of nebulized magnesium sulfate on the lung function of acetylcholine-induced asthma children., Methods: Three hundred and thirty children of asthma with positive bronchial provocation test were randomly divided into three groups: magnesium sulfate, albuterol, and a combination of magnesium sulfate and albuterol. Lung function was compared between the three groups., Results: Forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and peak expiratory flow (PEF) as percentage over predicted at 10 min and 20 min in albuterol and combination group were significantly improved when compared to magnesium group. The changes in FEV1 and PEF expressed as absolute and percentage over predicted was not statistically significant from baseline to 20 min in magnesium, albuterol, and combination of magnesium sulfate and albuterol. There was no significant adverse effect observed during the present study., Conclusion: Nebulized magnesium sulfate alone has a bronchodilatory effect in Ach-induced asthmatic children. The combination of MgSO4 and albuterol did not has a synergistic effect.

Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen 3C (EBNA3C) repression of CDKN2A p14(ARF) and p16(INK4A) is essential for immortal human B-lymphoblastoid cell line (LCL) growth. EBNA3C ChIP-sequencing identified >13,000 EBNA3C sites in LCL DNA. Most EBNA3C sites were associated with active transcription; 64% were strong H3K4me1- and H3K27ac-marked enhancers and 16% were active promoters marked by H3K4me3 and H3K9ac. Using ENCODE LCL transcription factor ChIP-sequencing data, EBNA3C sites coincided (±250 bp) with RUNX3 (64%), BATF (55%), ATF2 (51%), IRF4 (41%), MEF2A (35%), PAX5 (34%), SPI1 (29%), BCL11a (28%), SP1 (26%), TCF12 (23%), NF-κB (23%), POU2F2 (23%), and RBPJ (16%). EBNA3C sites separated into five distinct clusters: (i) Sin3A, (ii) EBNA2/RBPJ, (iii) SPI1, and (iv) strong or (v) weak BATF/IRF4. EBNA3C signals were positively affected by RUNX3, BATF/IRF4 (AICE) and SPI1/IRF4 (EICE) cooccupancy. Gene set enrichment analyses correlated EBNA3C/Sin3A promoter sites with transcription down-regulation (P < 1.6 × 10(-4)). EBNA3C signals were strongest at BATF/IRF4 and SPI1/IRF4 composite sites. EBNA3C bound strongly to the p14(ARF) promoter through SPI1/IRF4/BATF/RUNX3, establishing RBPJ-, Sin3A-, and REST-mediated repression. EBNA3C immune precipitated with Sin3A and conditional EBNA3C inactivation significantly decreased Sin3A binding at the p14(ARF) promoter (P < 0.05). These data support a model in which EBNA3C binds strongly to BATF/IRF4/SPI1/RUNX3 sites to enhance transcription and recruits RBPJ/Sin3A- and REST/NRSF-repressive complexes to repress p14(ARF) and p16(INK4A) expression.

Objective: To study the effects of acetylcysteine magnesium on the vasoactive substances and hepatic fibrosis indexes in liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension of rats., Methods: The rat liver cirrhosis model was made with 12 microg/kg dimethylnitrosamines. Then acetylcysteine magnesium was injected respectively with 25, 50, and 100 mg x kg(-1) dose daily into abdominal cavity. After 8 weeks treatment, pathological section, TGF-beta1, NO, TNOS and iNOS of hepatic tissue were detected to assess the effect of acetylcysteine magnesium against cirrhosis portal hypertension., Results: After the DMNA modeling was completed, the HE and Sweet reticulocyte staining of liver pathological section showed that cirrhosis of the liver was in the III-IV phase, the infiltration of lymphocytes and formation of pseudolobuli in liver were alleviated in three acetylcysteine magnesium treatment groups (low, medium, and high dose), and the degree of liver fiber sclerosis in three groups was significantly lower than control group. Compared with control group, TGF-beta1, NO, TNOS and iNOS were significantly reduced in all treatment groups (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Acetylcysteine magnesium is probably a distinctive antioxidant which can remove various free radical in body and modulate ligand-dependent signal transduction and the growth of cell. It also have protection in the liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension of rats induced by dimethylnitrosamine.

To investigate the effects of climate change on canopy transpiration, a process-based carbon and water coupling multi-layer model was verified, and used to simulate the canopy transpiration over a broad-leaved Korean pine forest in Changbai Mountains. This multi-layer model could well estimate canopy transpiration. The simulated values fitted well with the measured data based on eddy covariance method. The simulation of the responses of canopy transpiration to climate change indicated that the latent heat flux (LE) increased with increasing air temperature, and decreased with the decline of soil water content or the increase of air CO2 concentration. Under the climate scenarios in this study, the LE was most sensitive to the associated variation of 10% reduction of soil water content in 0-20 cm layer and 190 micromol x mol(-1) increase of CO2 concentration, but not sensitive to the synchronous variation of 10% reduce of soil water content and 3.6 degrees C increase of air temperature.

Altered transforming growth factor (TGF)-β expression levels have been linked to a variety of human respiratory diseases, including bronchopulmonary dysplasia and pulmonary fibrosis. However, a causative role for aberrant TGF-β in neonatal lung diseases has not been defined in primates. Exogenous and transient TGF-β1 overexpression in fetal monkey lung was achieved by transabdominal ultrasound-guided fetal intrapulmonary injection of adenoviral vector expressing TGF-β1 at the second or third trimester of pregnancy. The lungs were then harvested near term, and fixed for histology and immunohistochemistry. Lung hypoplasia was observed where TGF-β1 was overexpressed during the second trimester. The most clearly marked phenotype consisted of severe pulmonary and pleural fibrosis, which was independent of the gestational time point when TGF-β1 was overexpressed. Increased cell proliferation, particularly in α-smooth muscle actin-positive myofibroblasts, was detected within the fibrotic foci. But epithelium to mesenchyme transdifferentiation was not detected. Massive collagen fibres were deposited on the inner and outer sides of the pleural membrane, with an intact elastin layer in the middle. This induced fibrotic pathology persisted even after adenoviral-mediated TGF-β1 overexpression was no longer evident. Therefore, overexpression of TGF-β1 within developing fetal monkey lung results in severe and progressive fibrosis in lung parenchyma and pleural membrane, in addition to pulmonary hypoplasia.

Criminal responsibility is divided into three types: full criminal responsibility, diminished criminal responsibility and criminal irresponsibility in China. In forensic psychiatric expertise, doctors often have different opinions about the responsibility in a given case because of lacking objective criteria. The evaluation of criminal responsibility is always unresolved problem in forensic psychiatric expertise. Application of these evaluation tools in forensic psychiatric expertise were reviewed in this article. The value of the tools were still controversial in the reliability and validity, but it is clear that these tools have the positive roles in ensuring the standardization and the uniformity of the forensic investigation.

Based on the data of three years successive automatic measurement with five horizontal quantum PAR sensors, this paper studied the spatiotemporal characteristics of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) in the understory of Korean pine and broadleaved mixed forest in Changbai Mountains, in contrast with above-canopy PAR. It was found that the annual dynamics of above-canopy PAR showed two or more peaks, which was mainly affected by the weather conditions such as cloudy, foggy and rainy events. The annual dynamics of understory PAR followed the same trend of above-canopy PAR in non-growth season, but was steady and lower in numerical value in growth season. On clear days, larger differences were observed in the diurnal variation and frequency distribution of the understory PAR. As for the spatial variation of the understory PAR, the coefficient of variation (CV) was smaller in non-growth season (about 0.15) than in growth season (> 0.22), with the greatest in August. On the clear days in growth season, the understory PAR had a greater spatial variation when the solar elevation angle was between 38 degrees and 48 degrees (at 9:00-10:00 or 13:00-14:00).

The measurement of CO2 turbulent exchange in a broadleaved Korean pine forest in Changbai Mountains by an open-path eddy covariance system showed that with near neutral atmospheric stratification, the CO2 and vertical wind components over canopy in inertial subrange followed the expected -2/3 power law, and the dominant vertical eddy scale was about 40 m. The frequency ranges of eddy contributions to CO2 fluxes were mostly within 0.01-2.0 Hz, and the eddy translated by low frequency over canopy contributed more of CO2 fluxes. The open-path eddy covariance system could satisfy the estimation of turbulent fluxes over canopy, but the CO2 fluxes between forest and atmosphere were generally underestimated at night because the increment of non turbulent processes, suggesting that the CO2 fluxes estimated under weak turbulence needed to revise correspondingly.

Based on the 3-year successive automatic measurement of photosynthetic active radiation above and under the crown of Korean pine and broadleaved mixed forest in Changbai Mountains, as well as the seasonal observation on leaf area index, a semi-empirical model was established to estimate the crown leaf area index of the forest. The results showed that this model could well reflect the seasonal variation of crown leaf area. From the comparison of 3-year leaf area index series, it was found that the date when the leaf area index began to rise was postponed if the date when its air temperature stably surpassed 0 degrees C came late. The dynamics of the leaf area index in whole growth season could be divided into three stages, i. e., rising, relatively stable, and dropping, and at each stage, there was a greater correlation between the leaf area index and the accumulated temperature above 0 degrees C, which could be expressed by Logistic curve and linear equation. The problems existing in the observation and estimation of forest crown leaf area index were discussed.

Nonlinear wave propagation in an asymmetric converging Y junction, which consists of a nonlinear cladding, a linear film, and a linear substrate, is studied. The nonlinear dispersion curves of the successive sections of the Y junction are calculated to be used to illustrate the evolutions of the eigenmodes. The field incident from the nonlinear thinner branch can evolve into the symmetric mode of the stem with a high coupling efficiency. An insertion coupler for a time-multiplexed loop is suggested.

We introduce a novel device for optical switching by using the position shift of the spatial soliton after collision. The device is a one-to-three switching device controlled by two control beams. For the optimum signal power, the transmission efficiency is above 95%. The wave propagation in the structure and the transmission efficiency as a function of input signal power are shown and discussed.
