101. New predictions of

Abstract: Most of the area contaminated by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident is covered by forest. In this paper, we updated model predictions of temporal changes in the 137Cs dynamics using the latest observation data and newly provided maps of the predicted 137Cs activity concentration for wood, which is the most commercially important part of the tree body. Overall, the previous prediction and latest observation data were in very good agreement. However, further validation revealed that the migration from the soil surface organic layer to the mineral soil was overestimated for evergreen needleleaf forests. The new prediction of the 137Cs inventory showed that although the 137Cs distribution within forests differed among forest types in the first 5 years, the difference diminished in the later phase. Besides, the prediction of the wood 137Cs activity concentrations reproduced the different trends of the 137Cs activity concentrations for cedar, oak, and pine trees. Our simulation suggests that the changes of the wood 137Cs activity concentration over time will slow down after 5–10 years. Although the model uncertainty should be considered and monitoring and model updating must continue, the study provides helpful information on the 137Cs dynamics within forest ecosystems and the changes in wood contamination.

Abstract: Heavy flavor physics entered a new era when the Belle II experiment observed its first collision. There are several hints found so far by BaBar, Belle, and LHCb in particular, that suggest the physics beyond the Standard Model appearing in the loop processes at short distances. They will be further tested by higher precision experiments in the coming years, while the role of lattice QCD is to understand the long-distance physics quantitatively so that one can unambiguously isolate the short-distance physics from the experimental data. 103. Test of factorization for the long-distance effects from charmonium in $B\rightarrow K\ell^+\ell^-$

Abstract: We report on a calculation of the charmonium contribution to the decay $B \rightarrow K\ell^+\ell^-$ using lattice simulations with 2+1 flavors of Mobius domain wall fermions. We focus on the region of $q^2$ below the $J/\psi$ resonance and test the factorization approximation to estimate the amplitude. We show a possible discrepancy between lattice calculation and factorization method for the non-factorizable contribution.

104. Heavy quark scaling of $B \to \pi \ell \nu$ form factors with Möbius domain wall fermions

Abstract: We report on the progress of our calculation of form factors for the exclusive semileptonic decay of $B$ mesons to pions on $2+1$ flavour lattices with spacings from $0.080~\mathrm{fm}$ down to $0.044~\mathrm{fm}$. Using the Mobius domain wall fermion action for all quarks, we simulate pions with masses down to $230~\mathrm{MeV}$ and extrapolate to the physical bottom quark mass by utilizing a range of heavy quark masses up to $2.44$ times the mass of the charm quark. We discuss the dependence on the pion mass, heavy quark mass and lattice spacing in our form factors results.

Abstract: We report on our study of the $B \to D^{(*)}\ell\nu$ semileptonic decays at zero and nonzero recoils in 2+1 flavor QCD. The M\"obius domain-wall action is employed for light, charm and bottom quarks at lattice cutoffs $a^{-1}$ = 2.5 and 3.6 GeV. We take bottom quark masses up to $\approx$ 2.4 times the physical charm mass to control discretization effects. The pion mass is as low as $M_\pi \sim$ 310 MeV. We present our preliminary results for the relevant form factors and discuss the violation of heavy quark symmetry, which is a recent important isuue on the long-standing tension in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cb}|$ between the exclusive and inclusive decays.

Abstract: Wine, a widely consumed beverage, comprises several biophenols that promote health. Flavonoids, majorly present in red wine, have been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and immunomodulatory activities. Regular consumption of red wine (100 mL/day) is estimated to provide an average of 88 mg of flavonoids, whereas recent epidemiological studies indicate that wine is one of the major sources of flavonoid intake amongst wine lovers in European countries (providing an average intake of 291–374 mg/day of flavonoids). In addition to being antioxidants, in vitro studies suggest that flavonoids also have anti-allergic activities that inhibit IgE synthesis, activation of mast cells and basophils or other inflammatory cells, and production of inflammatory mediators, including cytokines. Furthermore, they affect the differentiation of naïve CD4+ T cells into effector T cell subsets. Moreover, several studies have reported the benefits of flavonoids in allergic models such as atopic dermatitis, asthma, anaphylaxis, and food allergy; however, evidence in humans is limited to allergic rhinitis and respiratory allergy. Although further evaluation is required, it is expected that an appropriate intake of flavonoids may be beneficial in preventing, and eventually managing, allergic diseases.

It offered a platform where theorists and experimentalists could work together to elucidate the potential impacts of the Belle II program, which includes a wide scope of physics topics: B physics, charm, τ , quarkonium physics, electroweak precision measurements, and dark sector searches. We organized workshops twice a year from 2014 until 2016, which moved from KEK in Japan to Europe and the Americas, gathering experts in the respective fields for discussions with Belle II members. One of the goals for B2TiP was to propose so-called “golden and silver channels”: we asked each working group to choose, among numerous possible measurements, those that would have the highest potential impact and to focus on them for the writeup. Theorists scrutinized the role of those measurements in terms of understanding the theory behind them, and estimated the theoretical uncertainties now achievable as well as prospects for the future. For flavor physics, having tight control of hadronic uncertainties is one of the most crucial aspects in the field, and this is considered an important criterion in determining the golden or silver channels. Experimentalists, on the other hand, investigated the expected improvements with data from Belle II. For the channels where the errors are dominated by statistical uncertainties, or where systematic errors are reducible, the errors can decrease rapidly as more data becomes available. The impact of the upgraded performance from Belle II is a crucial element in reducing the uncertainties: we therefore include the latest available studies of the detector efficiency using Monte Carlo simulated events.We list the golden and silver channel table in the introductory chapter, as a guide for the chapters that follow. This book is not a collection of reports based on talks given at the workshops. The working group conveners endeavored to construct a coherent document that can be used by Belle II collaborators, and others in the field of flavor physics, as a reference. Two books of a similar type have been produced in the past: The BaBar Book [1] and The Physics of the B Factories [2]. In order to avoid too much repetition with respect to those references, we refer to them wherever possible for introductory material. Abstract: Properties of QCD matter change significantly around the chiral crossover temperature, and the effects on $U(1)_A$ and topological susceptibilities, as well as the meson spectrum have been studied with much care. Baryons and the effect of parity doubling in this temperature range have been analyzed previously by various other groups employing different setups. Here we construct suitable operators to investigate chiral and axial $U(1)_A$ symmetries in the baryon spectrum. Measurements for different volumes and quark-masses are done with two flavors of chirally symmetric domain-wall fermions at temperatures above the critical one. Abstract: Using lattice QCD simulations with $N_f = 2$ dynamical fermions, we study the axial $U(1)$ symmetry, topological charge, and Dirac eigenvalue spectra in the high-temperature phase in which the chiral symmetry is restored. Our gauge ensembles are generated with M\"obius domain-wall fermions, but the measurements such as susceptibilities are reweighted to those for the overlap fermions by using overlap/domain-wall reweighting technique. We find that the $U(1)_A$ and topological susceptibilities are strongly suppressed in the small quark mass region, which is related to the reduction of chiral-zero and low-nonzero modes on the Dirac spectra. Abstract: Background The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is a major public health concern. Accurate and rapid diagnosis of COVID-19 is critical for disease control. Reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) is a nucleic acid amplification assay similar to reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), the former being a simple, low cost, and rapid method. Objectives This study aimed to compare the RT-LAMP assay with RT-PCR using the Loopamp™ SARS-CoV-2 Detection Kit. Study design One hundred and fifty-one nasopharyngeal swab and 88 sputum samples obtained from individuals with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 were examined. Results RT-LAMP had high specificity (98.5 % (95 % CI: 96.9–100 %)), sensitivity (87.0 % (95 % CI: 82.8–91.3 %)), positive predictive value (97.9 % (95 % CI: 96.1–99.7 %)), negative predictive value (90.2 % (95 % CI: 86.4–94.0 %)), and concordance rate (93.3 % (95 % CI: 90.1–96.5 %)). Nasopharyngeal and sputum samples positive in RT-LAMP contained as few as 10.2 and 23.4 copies per 10 μL, respectively. RT-LAMP showed similar performance to RT-PCR for samples with cycle threshold value below 36. Conclusions These results indicate that RT-LAMP is a highly reliable and at least equivalent to RT-PCR in utility, and potentially applicable in settings that are more diverse as a point-of-care tool.

Abstract: Although forestry plantations dominate landscapes in many parts of the world, effects of plantation forestry on various ecosystem services (ESs) remain unknown. Here, we modeled 10 forest ESs as functions of forest type (natural forest vs. plantation), stand age, and environmental covariates to systematically evaluate ESs of plantation landscapes in central Japan. Our models showed that although three ESs including biodiversity conservation and amenity service are greatly reduced by replacing natural forests with plantations, other ESs show small changes or even increase when stand age is accounted for. Five ESs increase and four decrease with stand age in both forest types. Model application to the study area in the past 60 years suggested that many ESs were greatly reduced when or immediately after vast plantations were established. Two ESs (biodiversity conservation and amenity service) have not sufficiently recovered despite forests’ reaching maturity. ESs dependent on early-successional stage showed precipitous recent declines. Scenario analysis suggests that increasing timber production while avoiding harvesting steep slopes would not increase landslide susceptibility. Furthermore, restoration of natural forests in flat areas near roads would greatly improve biodiversity conservation and amenity services. Landscape management will determine whether plantations deliver net benefits to current and future generations.

Abstract: In the context of their role in global climate change, changes in soil carbon stocks resulting from land use conversions from forest to agricultural lands (cropland and grassland) and subsequent agricultural activities were investigated with data from a total of 46 soil sampling sites across Japan (28 cropland and 18 grassland sites). Collection of soil sample pairs from forest land and adjacent agricultural land converted from forest land allowed derivation of the soil carbon change factor (SCCF; ratio of soil carbon stock in the agricultural land to that in the forest land at the time of soil sampling). Depth-based SCCFs for a fixed depth of 0–30 cm were 23% greater than mass-based SCCFs determined by the equivalent soil mass approach, in which soil carbon stocks in all replicated samples from forest land and agricultural land were calculated for different depths but equal masses of the soil mineral fraction. The overestimation of SCCFs by the depth-based approach was more pronounced in Andosols, particularly in croplands on Andosols, because soil bulk densities in forest lands were much lower than those in croplands on Andosols. The mass-based SCCFs for croplands (upland fields and orchards) and grasslands (pasture land and grazing land) after deforestation were 0.741 ± 0.259 (a 25.9 ± 25.9% decrease in soil carbon stocks after an elapsed time of 2–85 years) and 0.858 ± 0.212 (a 14.2 ± 21.2% decrease after an elapsed time of 26–81 years), respectively. Therefore, conversions from forest land to cropland or grassland resulted in a significant carbon loss from most soils in Japan. Soil carbon stocks in cropland converted from forest land declined as the elapsed time after deforestation increased although the uncertainty was large. Of the environmental variables, soil type (Andosols versus non-Andosols) and tillage frequency during cultivation had little impact on mass-based SCCFs; however, the SCCFs decreased with higher mean annual air temperature at the sites.

Abstract: Background In our previous study, colorectal cancer (CRC) patients with active Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) tolerated concurrent anti-cancer chemotherapy (anti-CCT) and anti-MTB chemotherapy. In this study, we retrospectively confirmed the efficacy and safety of concurrent chemotherapy in a greater number of patients with different types of malignancies. Methods We enrolled 30 patients who were treated concurrently with anti-CCT and anti-MTB regimens between January 2006 and February 2016. Cancer and MTB treatments were administered according to the approved guidelines. Results Patient demographics included: men/woman: 24/6; median age: 66.5 years; Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status 0–1/2/3–4: 24/4/2; Stage IIB–IIIC/IV/recurrence: 6/22/2; lung cancer (LC)/CRC/other: 15/10/5; and MTB diagnosis (before or during anti-CCT): 20/10 (LC: 8/7; CRC: 8/2; other: 4/1). For anti-CCT, 23 patients received two cytotoxic agents with or without targeted agents and 7 patients received a single cytotoxic or targeted agent. The overall response rate was 36.7%. Regarding anti-MTB chemotherapy, 22 patients received a daily drug combination containing isoniazid, rifampicin, and ethambutol, plus pyrazinamide in 15 of the 22 patients, followed by daily isoniazid and rifampicin; the remaining 8 patients received other combinations. Abstract: Inaccurate estimate of the largest terrestrial carbon pool, soil organic carbon (SOC) stock, is the major source of uncertainty in simulating feedback of climate warming on ecosystem–atmosphere carbon dioxide exchange by process-based ecosystem and soil carbon models. Although the models need to simplify complex environmental processes of soil carbon sequestration, in a large mosaic of environments a missing key driver could lead to a modeling bias in predictions of SOC stock change.We aimed to evaluate SOC stock estimates of process-based models (Yasso07, Q, and CENTURY soil sub-model v4) against a massive Swedish forest soil inventory data set (3230 samples) organized by a recursive partitioning method into distinct soil groups with underlying SOC stock development linked to physicochemical conditions.For two-thirds of measurements all models predicted accurate SOC stock levels regardless of the detail of input data, e.g., whether they ignored or included soil properties. However, in fertile sites with high N deposition, high cation exchange capacity, or moderately increased soil water content, Yasso07 and Q models underestimated SOC stocks. In comparison to Yasso07 and Q, accounting for the site-specific soil characteristics (e. g. clay content and topsoil mineral N) by CENTURY improved SOC stock estimates for sites with high clay content, but not for sites with high N deposition.Our analysis suggested that the soils with poorly predicted SOC stocks, as characterized by the high nutrient status and well-sorted parent material, indeed have had other predominant drivers of SOC stabilization lacking in the models, presumably the mycorrhizal organic uptake and organo-mineral stabilization processes. Our results imply that the role of soil nutrient status as regulator of organic matter mineralization has to be re-evaluated, since correct SOC stocks are decisive for predicting future SOC change and soil CO2 efflux.

Abstract: This study assessed historical changes in emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), a potent greenhouse gas and stratospheric ozone-depleting substance, from the soils of East Asia to the atmosphere. A process-based terrestrial ecosystem model (VISIT) was used to simulate the nitrogen cycle and associated N2O emissions as a function of climate, land use, atmospheric deposition, and agricultural inputs from 1901 to 2016. The mean regional N2O emission rate in the 2000s was estimated to be 2.03 Tg N2O year−1 (1.29 Tg N year−1; approximately one-third from natural ecosystems and two-thirds from croplands), more than triple the rate in 1901. A sensitivity analysis suggested that the increase of N2O emissions was primarily attributable to the increase of agricultural inputs from fertilizer and manure. The simulated N2O emissions showed a clear seasonal cycle and interannual variability, primarily in response to meteorological conditions and nitrogen inputs. The spatial pattern of the simulated N2O emissions revealed hot spots in agricultural areas of China, South Korea, and Japan. The average N2O emission factor (emission per unit nitrogen input) was estimated to be 1.38%, a value comparable to previous estimates. These biogeochemical modeling results will facilitate identifying ways to mitigate global warming and manage agricultural practices in this region.

Abstract: We report on the progress of understanding spatial correlation functions in high temperature QCD. We study isovector meson operators in $N_f=2$ QCD using domain-wall fermions on lattices of $N_s=32$ and different quark masses. It has previously been found that at $\sim 2T_c$ these observables are not only chirally symmetric but in addition approximately $SU(2)_{CS}$ and $SU(4)$ symmetric. Abstract: The Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 2,143 new measurements from 709 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. Particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics such as Higgs Boson Physics, Supersymmetry, Grand Unified Theories, Neutrino Mixing, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Cosmology, Particle Detectors, Colliders, Probability and Statistics. Among the 120 reviews are many that are new or heavily revised, including a new review on Machine Learning, and one on Spectroscopy of Light Meson Resonances. The Review is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 includes the Summary Tables and 97 review articles. Volume 2 consists of the Particle Listings and contains also 23 reviews that address specific aspects of the data presented in the Listings. The complete Review (both volumes) is published online on the website of the Particle Data Group (pdg.lbl.gov) and in a journal. Volume 1 is available in print as the PDG Book. Abstract: We compute the Dirac spectral density of QCD in a wide range of eigenvalues by using a stochastic method. We use 2+1 flavor lattice ensembles generated with Mobius domain-wall fermion at three lattice spacings ($a=0.083, 0.055, 0.044$ fm) to estimate the continuum limit. The discretization effect can be minimized by a generalization of the valence domain-wall fermion. The spectral density at relatively high eigenvalues can be matched with perturbation theory. Abstract: We report on the status of our calculation of the exclusive semileptonic decay, B → πlv; a key process in the determination of the CKM matrix element |Vub|. The Möbius domain wall action is used for both light and heavy quarks on gauge ensembles that include the effects of 2 + 1 flavours of quarks in the sea at three values of the lattice spacing: a ≈ 0.08 fm, a ≈ 0.055 fm, and a ≈ 0.044 fm. Pion masses go down to 300 MeV while heavy quarks masses are as large as 2.44mc. We present preliminary results of form factors from this process, showing dependence on momentum transfer, lattice spacing, and the heavy quark mass.

Abstract: We calculate the scalar and tensor charges of the nucleon in 2+1-flavor lattice QCD, for which the systematics of the renormalization of the disconnected diagram is well controlled. Numerical simulations are performed at a single lattice spacing a = 0.11 fm. We simulate four pion masses, which cover a range of $m_\pi \sim$ 290 - 540 MeV, and a single strange quark mass close to its physical value. The statistical accuracy is improved by employing the so-called low-mode averaging technique and the truncated solver method. We study up, down, and strange quark contributions to the nucleon charges by calculating disconnected diagrams using the all-to-all quark propagator. Chiral symmetry is exactly preserved by using the overlap quark action to avoid operator mixing among different flavors, which complicates the renormalization of scalar and tensor matrix elements and leads to possibly large contamination to the small strange quark contributions. We also study the nucleon axial charge with contribution from the disconnected diagram. Our results are in reasonable agreement with experiments and previous lattice studies., Comment: 39 pages, 17 figures

Abstract: The eigenvalue spectrum $\rho(\lambda)$ of the Dirac operator is numerically calculated in lattice QCD with 2+1 flavors of dynamical domain-wall fermions. In the high-energy regime, the discretization effects become significant. We subtract them at the leading order and then take the continuum limit with lattice data at three lattice spacings. Abstract: The flux of carbon dioxide from the soil to the atmosphere (soil respiration) is one of the major fluxes in the global carbon cycle. At present, the accumulated field observation data cover a wide range of geographical locations and climate conditions. However, there are still large uncertainties in the magnitude and spatiotemporal variation of global soil respiration. Using a global soil respiration data set, we developed a climate-driven model of soil respiration by modifying and updating Raich's model, and the global spatiotemporal distribution of soil respiration was examined using this model. The model was applied at a spatial resolution of 0.5°and a monthly time step. Soil respiration was divided into the heterotrophic and autotrophic components of respiration using an empirical model. The estimated mean annual global soil respiration was 91 Pg C yr−1 (between 1965 and 2012; Monte Carlo 95 % confidence interval: 87–95 Pg C yr−1) and increased at the rate of 0.09 Pg C yr−2. The contribution of soil respiration from boreal regions to the total increase in global soil respiration was on the same order of magnitude as that of tropical and temperate regions, despite a lower absolute magnitude of soil respiration in boreal regions. The estimated annual global heterotrophic respiration and global autotrophic respiration were 51 and 40 Pg C yr−1, respectively. The global soil respiration responded to the increase in air temperature at the rate of 3.3 Pg C yr−1 °C−1, and Q10 = 1.4. Our study scaled up observed soil respiration values from field measurements to estimate global soil respiration and provide a data-oriented estimate of global soil respiration. The estimates are based on a semi-empirical model parameterized with over one thousand data points. Our analysis indicates that the climate controls on soil respiration may translate into an increasing trend in global soil respiration and our analysis emphasizes the relevance of the soil carbon flux from soil to the atmosphere in response to climate change. Further approaches should additionally focus on climate controls in soil respiration in combination with changes in vegetation dynamics and soil carbon stocks, along with their effects on the long temporal dynamics of soil respiration. We expect that these spatiotemporal estimates will provide a benchmark for future studies and also help to constrain process-oriented models.

Abstract: We study the axial $U(1)$ symmetry at a finite temperature in two-flavor lattice QCD. Employing the M\"obius domain-wall fermions, we generate gauge configurations slightly above the critical temperature ${T}_{c}$ with different lattice sizes $L=2--4\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{fm}$. Our action allows frequent topology tunneling while keeping good chiral symmetry close enough to that of overlap fermions. This allows us to recover full chiral symmetry by an overlap/domain-wall reweighting. Above the phase transition, a strong suppression of the low-lying modes is observed in both overlap and domain-wall Dirac spectra. We, however, find a sizable violation of the Ginsparg-Wilson relation in the M\"obius domain-wall Dirac eigenmodes, which dominates the signals of the axial $U(1)$ symmetry breaking near the chiral limit. We also find that the use of the overlap fermion only in the valence sector is dangerous since it suffers from the artifacts due to partial quenching. Reweighting the M\"obius domain-wall fermion determinant to that of the overlap fermion, we observe the axial U(1) breaking to vanish in the chiral limit, which is stable against the changes of the lattice volume and lattice spacing.

Abstract: We study spatial isovector meson correlators in $N_f=2$ QCD with dynamical domain-wall fermions on $32^3\times 8$ lattices at temperatures $T=220-380$ MeV. We measure the correlators of spin-one ($J=1$) operators including vector, axial-vector, tensor and axial-tensor. Restoration of chiral $U(1)_A$ and $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$ symmetries of QCD implies degeneracies in vector--axial-vector ($SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$) and tensor--axial-tensor ($U(1)_A$) pairs, which are indeed observed at temperatures above $T_c$. Moreover, we observe an approximate degeneracy of all $J=1$ correlators with increasing temperature. This approximate degeneracy suggests emergent $SU(2)_{CS}$ and $SU(4)$ symmeries at high temperatures, that mix left- and right-handed quarks., This revised version contains all corrections that will appear in the forthcoming erratum

Abstract: We compute the topological susceptibility $\chi_t$ of lattice QCD with $2+1$ dynamical quark flavors described by the M\"obius domain wall fermion. Violation of chiral symmetry as measured by the residual mass is kept at $\sim$1 MeV or smaller. We measure the fluctuation of the topological charge density in a `slab' sub-volume of the simulated lattice using the method proposed by Bietenholz {\it et al.} The quark mass dependence of $\chi_t$ is consistent with the prediction of chiral perturbation theory, from which the chiral condensate is extracted as $\Sigma^{\overline{\rm MS}} (\mbox{2GeV}) = [274(13)(29)\mbox{MeV}]^3$, where the first error is statistical and the second one is systematic. Corresponding hadronic structure functions at unphysical kinematics are accessible through lattice QCD calculation of four-point correlation functions. Abstract: We study the vector and axial-vector current correlators in perturbative and non-perturbative regimes of QCD. The correlators in Euclidean coordinate space are calculated on the lattice using the M\"obius domain-wall fermion formulation at three lattice spacings covering 0.044--0.080~fm. The dynamical quark effects of $2+1$ light flavors are included. The sum $V+A$ and the difference $V-A$ of the vector ($V$) and axial-vector ($A$) current correlators calculated on the lattice after extrapolating to the physical point agree with those converted from the ALEPH experimental data of hadronic $\tau$ decays. The level of the agreement in the $V+A$ channel is about $1.3\sigma$ or smaller in the region of $|x|\ge0.4$~fm, while that in the $V-A$ channel is about $1.8\sigma$ at $|x|=0.74$~fm and smaller at other distances. We also extract the hiral condensate from the short-distance correlators on the lattice using the PCAC relation. We analyze the cutoff effects for heavy quarks above the charm and account for the leading order discretization effects using ideas from HQET. Abstract: We investigate the properties of background gauge field configurations that act as disorder for the Anderson localization mechanism in the Dirac spectrum of QCD at high temperatures. We compute the eigenmodes of the M\"obius domain-wall fermion operator on configurations generated for the $SU(3)$ gauge theory with two flavors of fermions. We identify the source of localization of the eigenmodes with gauge configurations that are approximately self-dual and support local negative fluctuations of the Polyakov loop $P_L(x)$, in the bulk of $P_L\sim 1$. We investigate the dependence of these observations on the boundary conditions of the valence operator and interpret the results in terms of monopole-instanton structures. Abstract: We review lattice results related to pion, kaon, D- and B-meson physics with the aim of making them easily accessible to the particle-physics community. More specifically, we report on the determination of the light-quark masses, the form factor f+(0) , arising in the semileptonic K→ π transition at zero momentum transfer, as well as the decay constant ratio fK/ fπ and its consequences for the CKM matrix elements Vu s and Vu d. Furthermore, we describe the results obtained on the lattice for some of the low-energy constants of SU(2) L× SU(2) R and SU(3) L× SU(3) R Chiral Perturbation Theory. We review the determination of the BK parameter of neutral kaon mixing as well as the additional four B parameters that arise in theories of physics beyond the Standard Model. The latter quantities are an addition compared to the previous review. For the heavy-quark sector, we provide results for mc and mb (also new compared to the previous review), as well as those for D- and B-meson-decay constants, form factors, and mixing parameters. These are the heavy-quark quantities most relevant for the determination of CKM matrix elements and the global CKM unitarity-triangle fit. Abstract: Pedotransfer functions (PTFs) for estimating bulk density (BD) of forest soils in Japan affected by volcanic ash were developed using 3513 stone-free soil data. We found that 29 existing PTFs of five empirical types and one physical type generally overestimated the BD. This occurred because volcanic soil with the unique physical and chemical properties and forest soils with high pore volume resulted in lower BD and higher organic carbon content (OC) compared with other soil groups and produced a much lower bulk density of the ‘pure’ mineral fraction, a parameter of the physical PTF (1.153 in this study), compared with previous studies. Revised PTFs were newly developed by a non-linear least-squares method using the same algorithms of the six types of published PTFs. The best fit revised PTFs were a decimal one, BD = 1/(0.882 + 0.133OC), and a physical one based on organic matter fraction (OM), BD = 100/[(OM/0.140) + {(100 − OM)/1.152}]. The revised PTFs predicted 37% of the samples to within ± 10% and 67% of the samples to within ± 20% in relative error for BD and explained 68% of BD variations. The variable mixture proportion of volcanic ash in the soils, the differences of soil textures, and the topographic conditions of the forest soils in Japan may have caused the variation in the observed BD.

Abstract: After the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, there has been an increasing concern regarding the contamination of wild mushrooms with radiocesium (134Cs and 137Cs) in eastern Japan. In this study, we analyzed the radioactivity monitoring data of 3189 wild edible mushrooms of 107 species collected by the 265 local municipalities in eastern Japan to investigate the radiocesium levels in wild mushrooms. Results of the analysis showed that radiocesium concentrations in mushrooms were normalized with radioactivity deposition data from aircraft monitoring, and then we evaluated the effects of species, sampled location, sampling year and regional deviation between 134Cs and 137Cs activity of specimens using a hierarchical Bayesian approach considering spatial autocorrelation (an intrinsic CAR model). Normalized activity concentration by species ranged from 1.1×10-4 to 2.3×10-2 (m2 kg-1, fresh weight). As reported in previous studies, the mycorrhizal species tended to have higher radiocesium concentrations. Some saprophytic species (e.g. Pholiota lubrica) also had high concentrations. For the mushroom species that were also evaluated in the post-Chernobyl studies, we found that the same species had similar trends of absorption capacities. Our results indicate the extensive analysis of public monitoring data is helpful to understand the situation of mushroom contamination and evaluate the internal dose by ingestion of wild mushrooms according to species and areas.

148. IL-6 trans-signaling induces plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 from vascular endothelial cells in cytokine release syndrome.

Abstract: Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) is a life-threatening complication induced by systemic inflammatory responses to infections, including bacteria and chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy. There are currently no immunotherapies with proven clinical efficacy and understanding of the molecular mechanisms of CRS pathogenesis is limited. Here, we found that patients diagnosed with CRS from sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), or burns showed common manifestations: strikingly elevated levels of the four proinflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), and IL-10 and the coagulation cascade activator plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1). Our in vitro data indicate that endothelial IL-6 trans-signaling formed an inflammation circuit for robust IL-6, IL-8, and MCP-1 production and promoted PAI-1 production; additionally, an IL-6 signaling blockade by the human monoclonal antibody tocilizumab blunted endothelial cell activation. Plasma from severe COVID-19 patients similarly exhibited increased IL-6, IL-10, and MCP-1 levels, but these levels were not as high as those in patients with CRS from other causes. In contrast, the PAI-1 levels in COVID-19 patients were as highly elevated as those in patients with bacterial sepsis or ARDS. Tocilizumab treatment decreased the PAI-1 levels and alleviated critical illness in severe COVID-19 patients. Our findings suggest that distinct levels of cytokine production are associated with CRS induced by bacterial infection and COVID-19, but both CRS types are accompanied by endotheliopathy through IL-6 trans-signaling. Thus, the present study highlights the crucial role of IL-6 signaling in endothelial dysfunction during bacterial infection and COVID-19. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

149. EXAMINATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SLOW AND DEEP INHALATION OF FP/FM-pMDI FOR THE SMALL-AIRWAYS DYSFUNCTION OF ADULT-ONSET ASTHMA

Abstract: To date adult-onset asthmatic patients who lack a clear stridor and show prolonged coughs and chest discomfort caused by small-airways dysfunction have increased. We examined the small-airways function of these cases and the effectiveness of slow and deep inhalation of FP/FM-pMDI.62 adult-onset asthmatic patients who had prolonged coughs and chest discomfort with the middle or high dose of ICS/LABA combination agents under well technique (32 of BUD/FM-DPI group and 30 of FP/SM-pMDI group) were included into this study. ICS/LABAs were switched to FP/FM-pMDI and slow and deep inhalation for 2-3 seconds was carried out thoroughly. The dose of FP/FM-pMDI was reduced depending on the improvement of symptoms. ACT score, respiratory function tests and respiratory resistance were measured after approximately six months from switching (stable condition after switching) and were compared with the values of the same period of the last year (stable condition under the previous ICS/LABA).After switching to FP/FM-pMDI, asthmatic symptoms and plural values of small-airways function were improved in 93.7% (30/32 cases) of BUD/FM-DPI group and in 86.6% (26/30 cases) of FP/SM-pMDI group. Moreover, mean daily inhalation doses were decreased from 5.0 to 4.3 in BUD/FM-DPI group and decreased from 5.7 to 3.7 in FP/SM-pMDI group.Slow and deep inhalation of FP/FM-pMDI is effective in many asthmatic patients who have prolonged small-airways dysfunction. A prospective, multi-centered contrastive study is warranted to confirm the effectiveness of this inhalational method.

150. Short-distance charmonium correlator on the lattice with Möbius domain-wall fermion and a determination of charm quark mass

Abstract: We calculate charmonium correlators on the lattice with 2+1-flavors of sea quarks and charm valence quark both described by the M\"obius domain-wall fermion. Temporal moments of the correlators are calculated and matched to perturbative QCD formulae to extract the charm quark mass $m_c(\mu)$ and strong coupling constant $\alpha_s(\mu)$. Lattice data at three lattice spacings, 0.044, 0.055, and 0.080~fm, are extrapolated to the continuum limit. The correlators in the vector channel are confirmed to be consistent with the experimental data for $e^+e^-\to c\bar{c}$, while the pseudo-scalar channel is used to extract $m_c(\mu)$ and $\alpha_s(\mu)$. We obtain $m_\mathrm{c}(3 \mathrm{\ GeV})$ = 1.003(10)~GeV and $\alpha_s^{\bar{\mathrm{MS}}(4)}(3\mathrm{\ GeV})$ = 0.253(13).
