ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the physical characteristics of eggs from free-range hens of the Sura variety. One hundred eggs underwent assessment of various physical parameters, namely, whole egg weight, equatorial diameter, egg height, shell color, presence of cracks via candling, air chamber height, yolk color, presence of flesh and blood spots, albumen width and length, yolk diameter, yolk weight, and shell weight. Additional analyses included determining the albumen weight (calculated by subtracting the weights of the shell and yolk from the total egg weight), percentages of egg components, shape index, and shell index. Statistical analyses were conducted using GLM SAS software (SAS Institute). The results revealed distinct physical traits; eggs from the Sura variety, regardless of size class (large or small), typically have a more rounded shape, light brown shells, and more orange yolks. These findings confirm that Sura variety eggs possess unique characteristics that could appeal to specific market niches, potentially promoting the production of these birds, supporting biodiversity, and aiding in the prevention of their extinction.

BackgroundFeedback is an essential tool for learning and improving performance in any sphere of education, including training of resident physicians. The learner’s perception of the feedback they receive is extremely relevant to their learning progress, which must aim at providing qualified care for patients. Studies pertinent to the matter differ substantially with respect to methodology, population, context, and objective, which makes it even more difficult to achieve a clear understanding of the topic. A scoping review on this theme will unequivocally enhance and organize what is already known. ObjectiveThe aim of this study is to identify and map out data from studies that report surgical residents’ perception of the feedback received during their education. MethodsThe review will consider studies on the feedback perception of resident physicians of any surgical specialty and age group, attending any year of residency, regardless of the type of feedback given and the way the perceptions were measured. Primary studies published in English, Spanish, and Portuguese since 2017 will be considered. The search will be carried out in 6 databases and reference lists will also be searched for additional studies. Duplicates will be removed, and 2 independent reviewers will screen the selected studies’ titles, abstracts, and full texts. Data extraction will be performed through a tool developed by the researchers. Descriptive statistics and qualitative analysis (content analysis) will be used to analyze the data. A summary of the results will be presented in the form of diagrams, narratives, and tables. ResultsThe findings of this scoping review were submitted to an indexed journal in July 2024, currently awaiting reviewer approval. The search was executed on March 15, 2024, and resulted in 588 articles. After the exclusion of the duplicate articles and those that did not meet the eligibility criteria as well as the inclusion of articles through a manual search, 13 articles were included in the review. ConclusionsConducting a scoping review is the best way to map what is known about a subject. By focusing on the feedback perception more than the feedback itself, the results of this study will surely contribute to gaining a deeper understanding of how to proceed to enhance internal feedback and surgical residents’ learning progress. Introdução: No contexto da formação de nutricionistas, é preciso refletir sobre as relações étnico-raciais e suas interseções com a Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional (SAN) e a Educação Alimentar e Nutricional. Objetivo: Este artigo original visa refletir sobre a formação de nutricionistas no que concerne à problemática das desigualdades raciais, à luz da experiência da disciplina de Educação Alimentar e Nutricional 2 de um curso de Nutrição de instituição pública de ensino superior no Norte Fluminense. Método: A investigação qualitativa envolveu observação participante, análise documental e sistematização de experiência. Resultados: A reflexão em classe sobre a realidade vivenciada, à luz de referenciais teóricos que tratam das relações étnico-raciais e de SAN, possibilitou problematizar como o racismo institucional compromete a realização do Direito Humano à Alimentação Adequada da população negra. As experiências proporcionaram a reflexão crítica sobre o processo de desumanização gerado pelo racismo, que fomenta a negação de direitos fundamentais à população negra, incluindo o direito à alimentação. O tema das desigualdades étnico-raciais se tornou mais presente nos trabalhos finais da disciplina, em trabalhos de conclusão de curso, artigos e resumos apresentados em congressos científicos e acadêmicos. Conclusão: Apesar das estruturas de poder que operam no campo do conhecimento acadêmico e silenciam epistemologias e cosmovisões outras, a disciplina analisada conseguiu adotar propostas criativas sobre as relações étnico-raciais. A Educação Popular fomentou a capacidade de reflexão crítica dos educandos sobre as desigualdades raciais que permeiam a SAN.

Introdução: Documentos orientadores de alimentação adequada e saudável destacam a importância da culinária doméstica para sua promoção. Vídeos educativos vêm sendo utilizados como estratégias de educação alimentar e nutricional e são promissores para a abordagem da culinária doméstica. Objetivo: Apresentar o percurso metodológico de construção da websérie “Cidinha dá Jeito” e analisar a convergência dos conteúdos dos episódios com os guias alimentares brasileiros e com o Modelo Conceitual de Autonomia Culinária (MCAC). Métodos: Na primeira fase, elaboração da websérie, foram conduzidas seis etapas: escolha das bases conceituais; definição do público de interesse; elaboração preliminar de temas e conteúdos dos vídeos; oficinas de escuta; sistematização das contribuições, versão final dos temas e conteúdos e elaboração dos roteiros; e definição da plataforma virtual para divulgação e produção dos vídeos. Na segunda fase, analisou-se a convergência dos conteúdos dos episódios com os guias alimentares e o MCAC. Resultados: Após quatro oficinas de escuta com o público de interesse e especialistas, foi desenvolvida uma websérie composta por 21 episódios com recursos para acessibilidade comunicacional, cada um com duração de até sete minutos, tendo como audiência prioritária famílias de baixa renda e usuárias do Sistema Único de Saúde. Em abril de 2024, a websérie registrou 20.773 visualizações no canal do YouTube®. Os conteúdos dos guias alimentares brasileiros e do MCAC permeiam todos os episódios. Conclusão: A websérie, com potencial de amplo alcance e avanços na acessibilidade, busca reconhecer a complexidade da culinária e favorecer a implementação das recomendações sobre alimentação adequada e saudável.

Background Fetal growth restriction is associated with perinatal morbidity and mortality. Early identification of women having at-risk fetuses can reduce perinatal adverse outcomes. Objectives To assess the predictive performance of existing models predicting fetal growth restriction and birthweight, and if needed, to develop and validate new multivariable models using individual participant data. Design Individual participant data meta-analyses of cohorts in International Prediction of Pregnancy Complications network, decision curve analysis and health economics analysis. Participants Pregnant women at booking. External validation of existing models (9 cohorts, 441,415 pregnancies); International Prediction of Pregnancy Complications model development and validation (4 cohorts, 237,228 pregnancies). Predictors Maternal clinical characteristics, biochemical and ultrasound markers. Primary outcomes fetal growth restriction defined as birthweight 32 weeks). To assess if the performance of the prediction models is generalisable for various definitions of FGR, and assess the association between various birthweight centiles calculated using customised and population-based standards and perinatal morbidity and mortality. To estimate the net benefit (clinical utility) of the developed prediction models using decision curve analysis (DCA). To assess the costs and outcomes and the potential impact of resource use of the prediction models. Methods We followed existing recommendations for prediction model development and validation and reported in line with guidelines for prognostic research and IPD meta-analysis. Our meta-analysis utilised IPD within the IPPIC Network database. IPPIC is a living data repository of cleaned and harmonised data of pregnant women from large birth or population-based cohorts, study cohort data, registries or unpublished data from hospital records. The fossil-diagenetic characteristics, such as mineralogical aspects present in the ribs of Catonyx cuvieri (Lund, 1839) (Mammalia, Xenarthra), were analyzed in this work. These analyzed remains come from the Risso Cave, San Lazaro's District, Concepción Department, Paraguay. The vibrational response was studied using Raman and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and the mineralogy and elemental compositions were examined using multiple characterizations techniques. The main functional groups belong to the mineral part of the bone, and specific functional groups were associated with organic components. The characterization indicated that material was composed of apatites and the original mineral structure was affected by partial ionic substitutions, probably due to the interaction of the fossil with the environment. A Gaussian deconvolution model (GM) was used to identify the individual overlapping bands in the regions of interest in the spectra. A diagenesis pathway for the fossil involved the inclusion of calcium carbonate on the surface of the bone due to the accumulation of moisture, which allowed the recrystallization of hydroxyapatite and the precipitation of calcite in the pores and silicates of the bone. It’s worth mentioning that this work is the first in the ground sloths C. cuvieri in South America. In addition, the material here constitutes the most complete fossil record of a member of the Pleistocene megafaunal of Paraguay.

As planícies flúviomarinhas em situação de hipersalinidade são ecossistemas característicos das zonas tropicais, condição que é viabilizada pela elevada evaporação e escassa pluviosidade, dando origem a cristalização dos sais da água do mar na superfície do solo. Adicionalmente, enfrentam constante ocupação, mesmo em circunstâncias desfavoráveis. A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo identificar e monitorar as potencialidades para atividades econômicas da planície flúviomarinha do rio Apodi-Mossoró, por meio da estrutura DPSIR (Demanda-Pressão-Estado-Impacto-Resposta), que é capaz de proporcionar uma análise das relações sistêmicas entre ações antrópicas e ambientais. Para isso, foram realizados levantamentos bibliográficos e Listagem de Controle (Checklist) em campo para identificar os principais indicadores que caracterizam a problemática. Os resultados mostraram que as demandas por alimento, energia e espaço imobiliário provocam variadas pressões no estado natural, de maneira que os impactos mais significativos são a perda da biodiversidade e alterações na composição natural do solo, causados sobretudo pela carcinicultura, salinas, atividade petrolífera onshore e crescimento populacional. Para mitigar esses danos e assegurar a sustentabilidade, as principais respostas foram a fiscalização a partir das normas ambientais e a implementação do saneamento ambiental

Resumo: O sono é influenciado por diversos fatores e é essencial para a saúde. O papel do contexto socioeconômico da vizinhança na saúde do sono foi estudado nos últimos anos, mas os resultados são inconsistentes. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a associação entre a segregação residencial socioeconômica e os problemas do sono. Utilizou-se dados da 2ª avaliação (2012-2014) de 9.918 servidores públicos participantes do Estudo Longitudinal de Saúde do Adulto (ELSA-Brasil). A segregação residencial socioeconômica foi avaliada por meio da estatística Getis-Ord Local Gi*, e a duração e privação do sono, as queixas de insônia e a sonolência diurna foram obtidas por meio de entrevistas. Para as estimativas da odds ratio (OR), foram utilizados modelos de regressão logística binomial e multinomial. Em relação ao sono, 49% tinham curta duração e 3% longa duração, 23% relataram queixas de insônia, 45% relataram privação do sono, 42% relataram sonolência diurna e 48% relataram ≥ 2 problemas do sono. No modelo ajustado por variáveis demográficas e socioeconômicas, houve associação entre alta segregação residencial socioeconômica e duração curta do sono (OR = 1,22; IC95%: 1,07; 1,40), privação do sono (OR = 1,20; IC95%: 1,05; 1,37), sonolência diurna (OR = 1,17; IC95%: 1,03; 1,34) e ≥ 2 problemas associados do sono (OR = 1,24; IC95%: 1,08; 1,41). Indivíduos que vivem em vizinhanças com alta segregação residencial socioeconômica apresentam maior chance de terem curta duração, privação do sono, sonolência diurna e ≥ 2 problemas associados ao sono. Essas informações reforçam que políticas públicas para reduzir as desigualdades socioeconômicas podem contribuir para melhorar a saúde do sono da população.

Objective: To map the temporal evolution of overweight and obesity in Brazilian adults and estimate the prevalence of obesity for 2025 and 2030, evaluating the potential impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: Data were collected on the nutritional status of adults from 2008 to 2021 from the Food and Nutrition Surveillance System (SISVAN), from which we calculated the prevalence and average annual rates of the variation of overweight and obesity. The projection of obesity, using linear regression, was analyzed in three scenarios: PP: with data from the pre-pandemic period (2008- 2019); outlier: with adjustment of the data trend (2008-2021), including the pandemic period, considering a return of scenario PP for projections from 2022; P: adjustment of pandemic data (2019-2021) to estimate the projection. Result: In the period 2008– 2021, we observed an average annual rate of overweight increase of 0.48 %/year. The prevalence of obesity more than doubled during this period, from 14.5% in 2008 to 32.9% in 2021 (i.e., an increase of 1.42). In the outlier scenario, the prevalence projections for obesity are 38.8% and 45.5% for 2015 and 2030, respectively. In the PP scenario (without the pandemic), the expected prevalence for the same period would be approximately 36.8% and 43.4%, respectively. Conclusion: Obesity and overweight follow an increasing trend. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the increase in the prevalence of obesity in Brazil and impacted its projections for the coming years.

HbSC disease, a less severe form of sickle cell disease, affects the retina more frequently and patients have higher rates of proliferative retinopathy that can progress to vision loss. This study aimed to identify differences in the expression of endothelial cell-derived molecules associated with the pathophysiology of proliferative sickle cell retinopathy (PSCR). RNAseq was used to compare the gene expression profile of circulating endothelial colony-forming cells from patients with SC hemoglobinopathy and proliferative retinopathy (n = 5), versus SC patients without retinopathy (n = 3). Real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to validate the RNAseq results. A total of 134 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were found. DEGs were mainly associated with vasodilatation, type I interferon signaling, innate immunity and angiogenesis. Among the DEGs identified, we highlight the most up-regulated genes ROBO1 (log2FoldChange = 4.32, FDR = 1.35E-11) and SLC38A5 (log2FoldChange = 3.36 FDR = 1.59E-07). ROBO1, an axon-guided receptor, promotes endothelial cell migration and contributes to the development of retinal angiogenesis and pathological ocular neovascularization. Endothelial SLC38A5, an amino acid (AA) transporter, regulates developmental and pathological retinal angiogenesis by controlling the uptake of AA nutrient, which may serve as metabolic fuel for the proliferation of endothelial cells (ECs) and consequent promotion of angiogenesis. Our data provide an important step towards elucidating the molecular pathophysiology of PSCR that may explain the differences in ocular manifestations between individuals with hemoglobinopathies and afford insights for new alternative strategies to inhibit pathological angiogenesis.

Clinical trials are essential for evaluating the efficacy and safety of new treatments and health interventions. However, while pharmacological trials are well-established, non-pharmacological trials face unique challenges related to their complexity and difficulties such as recruitment, retention, intervention standardisation, selection of outcome measures and blinding of clinicians, participants and data collectors. This communication paper describes the objectives, implementation steps and bylaws of the ‘Trials foR heAlth Care inTerventIONs’ Network (TRACTION), established by an international multiprofessional task force of experts to foster high-quality non-pharmacological research, ultimately improving patient care and healthcare outcomes.The TRACTION research network will provide information and resources through a collaborative hub for researchers, health professionals, patient research partners and stakeholders in diverse biomedical and healthcare areas, connecting people with different levels of expertise but with the same interests (eg, to evaluate the effect of non-pharmacological interventions, recruiting participants). This open network will support researchers in optimising trial design, participant recruitment, data management and analysis, and disseminating and implementing trial results.The network will also facilitate specialisation training and provide educational materials and mentoring.

RESUMO: O debate em torno do aprofundamento ou não de determinados conteúdos nos currículos dos cursos de Serviço Social merece destaque nas investigações a respeito da formação profissional. Sendo assim, este artigo objetiva refletir sobre as percepções de estudantes do curso de Serviço Social da UECE, estagiárias no campo da saúde, no que se refere ao ensino do conteúdo da saúde no currículo deste curso de graduação. Para tanto, adotamos a pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, com o uso dos delineamentos da pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e de campo, utilizando a entrevista semiestruturada com cinco estudantes para a coleta dos dados. Os resultados desta pesquisa evidenciaram a compreensão sobre a necessidade de uma formação generalista crítica conforme propõe a ABEPSS, mas a prevalência da percepção entre as estudantes entrevistadas sobre a necessidade de disciplinas específicas para tratar do conteúdo da saúde, tendo em vista a importância dos espaços da saúde como campos de trabalho privilegiados para os/as assistentes sociais e como espaços de aprendizagem para os/as estagiários. ABSTRACT: The debate about the deepening or not of certain contents in the curricula of the courses of Social Work deserves emphasis in the investigations regarding the professional formation. Thus, this article, the result of discussions developed in our course conclusion work, aims to reflect on the perceptions of students of the UECE Social Work, course trainees in the field of health, regarding the teaching of health content in the curriculum of this undergraduate course. To do so, we adopted the qualitative research, using the delineations of the bibliographic, documentary and field research, using the semi-structured interview with five students to collect the data. The results of this research evidenced an understanding of the need for a generalist critical education as proposed by ABEPSS, but the prevalence of the perception among the interviewed students about the need for specific disciplines to deal with health content, given the importance of health care as privileged workplaces for social workers and as learning spaces for trainees. RESUMO Introdução: A formação acadêmica do enfermeiro é um processo complexo que tem como principal foco, preparar o profissional de forma ética e eficiente, abrangendo conhecimentos teóricos e práticos. Apesar disso, a inserção dos enfermeiros no mercado de trabalho ainda enfrenta desafios, indicando a necessidade de medidas complementares para garantir sua efetiva integração. Objetivo: Analisar e sintetizar estudos anteriores que abordam os desafios específicos enfrentados pelos recém-formados em enfermagem ao ingressar no mercado de trabalho. Metodologia: O estudo foi realizado por meio de uma revisão integrativa da literatura realizada por meio de buscas nas bases de dados BVS, PUBMED e SCIELO utilizando os descritores “Enfermeiros”, “Mercado de trabalho”, “Saúde”. Foram incluídos no estudo ensaio clinico controlado, revisão bibliográfica, nos idiomas português, inglês e espanhol no recorte temporal de 2019 até 2024 e excluídos estudos incompletos, que não fazem referências ao objetivo do estudo. Resultados e Discussão: Os egressos de enfermagem enfrentam desafios como a falta de experiência e deficiências na formação acadêmica, como a insuficiência de prática clínica. Além disso, a saturação do mercado e a desvalorização da profissão também dificultam sua inserção. Estratégias como programas de residência e estágios voluntários são sugeridos para superar esses obstáculos, oferecendo oportunidades de adquirir experiência prática e desenvolver habilidades necessárias para o sucesso profissional. Conclusão: Enfermeiros recém-formados enfrentam desafios no mercado devido à falta de experiência prática e habilidades de liderança. Estratégias como programas de residência e mentoria podem ajudar na transição, oferecendo suporte adicional. Instituições de ensino e empregadores devem implementar essas medidas para fortalecer a força de trabalho de enfermagem.

Com o objetivo de cumprir as metas apresentadas no Plano Nacional de Educação (PNE), o processo de curricularização da extensão nos cursos de ensino superior tem se expandido e já está presente na maioria dos Projetos Pedagógicos de Cursos (PPCs) do Instituto Federal de Santa Catarina (IFSC). Nesse contexto, o presente relato de experiência apresenta um projeto de extensão realizado pelos discentes do curso superior de Sistemas para Internet do IFSC - Campus Garopaba, na disciplina de Iniciação Científica e Extensionista. O objetivo do projeto foi ofertar oficinas sobre o uso seguro de plataformas de mídias sociais para pessoas da terceira idade, auxiliando-as na identificação de golpes e nos perigos que podem surgir no ambiente digital. A execução do projeto se deu em três etapas: (1) levantamento, por métodos exploratórios, do nível de conhecimento geral voltado para mídias sociais com os idosos residentes em Garopaba; (2) desenvolvimento de um modelo de conteúdo para ser abordado durante as oficinas com conteúdos relacionados às redes sociais Facebook, Instagram e WhatsApp; e (3) oficinas ministradas pelos discentes sobre o uso das mídias sociais. O projeto, que faz parte da política de curricularização da extensão, promoveu momentos de compartilhamento de conhecimento, socialização e acesso à infraestrutura do IFSC Campus Garopaba, além de possibilitar que os discentes exercessem um papel de protagonismo e contribuíssem com a comunidade local.

ABSTRACT Measurements of biodiversity can be used to assess the scale of anthropogenic impact and predict species loss. A great number of diversity measures exist involving species richness and relative abundance that differ in how they are calculated. The choice of the adequate biodiversity measure to compare biological communities poses a challenge. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of 26 diversity measures to differentiate land cover types in the eastern Brazilian Amazon. Diversity was inventoried and quantified in three vertical strata in six locally dominant land cover types: primary and secondary forests, agroforestry systems, oil palm plantations, annual croplands and pastures. No diversity measure was able to differentiate all land cover types in every stratum. Fisher’s alpha was able to differentiate cover types in the middle and upper strata, while Smith-Wilson and Jentsch’s mixture quotient were able to differentiate in the lower and upper strata, and heterogeneity indices only differentiated in the upper stratum. The distinction and ranking of plant diversity among land covers depended on the diversity measure chosen. The number and types of land cover and vertical strata were a key factor in the ability of the diversity measure to differentiate among them.

A pós-graduação em Saúde Coletiva investe na força de trabalho do SUS, visando contribuir para a promoção da saúde da população. Objetivou-se descrever os significados atribuídos por pós-graduandos sobre Competências em Promoção da Saúde. Estudo de natureza descritiva com abordagem quantitativa, com 34 estudantes dos cursos de Residência Multiprofissional em Saúde Coletiva (RMSC) e Mestrado Profissional em Saúde da Família (MPSF) no Ceará. Utilizou-se a Técnica de Associação Livre de Palavras com o termo indutor “Competências para Promoção da Saúde”. Análises prototípica (AP) e de similitude (AS) das evocações foram discutidas à luz da matriz de Competências Essenciais para Promoção da Saúde no contexto brasileiro (CompEPS). Os termos ‘conhecimento’ e ‘habilidade’ foram evidenciados com elevada frequência na AP, compondo o núcleo central de ambos os cursos e, na AS, os termos “cuidado”, “promoção” e “prevenção” foram destaque no MPSF, enquanto “humanização” e “ética” destacaram-se na RMSC. Assim, os significados atribuídos pelos pós-graduandos ora ampliaram ora se distanciaram da CompEPS, implicando compreensões dissonantes e requerendo melhorias na formação pós-graduada.

Fiber-reinforced soils have been increasingly used in geotechnical engineering. Over the years, research has sought to understand and investigate the influences of fibers as reinforcement in soil–fiber mixtures. This study assessed the behavior of clayey soil in the city of Curitiba (Paraná, Brazil), adding rice husk fiber (RHF), an industrial waste from Cooperativa Agroindustrial in Alegrete (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil). To evaluate the effect of the presence of natural RHF on the mechanical behavior of compacted soil, aspects such as the influence of fiber content and the drained and undrained behaviors of the soil were evaluated through unconfined triaxial compression tests. The following tests were realized: soil granulometry, specific mass of solids and Atterberg limits. Specimens were produced in quadruplicate for the soil and mixtures using the RHF contents of 0.5%, 0.75%, 1% and 1.5% to determine the unconfined compressive strength (UCS). Triaxial tests were realized on a pure soil specimen and the specimens with 1% RHF under confining pressures of 50 kPa, 100 kPa, 200 kPa and 400 kPa. The interactions at the interface between husk surface and soil were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In UCS tests, specimens with RHF percentages of 1% and 1.5% presented the highest results, with an increment of 36% compared to the soil without RHF. The results of the consolidated drained triaxial compression tests show that in terms of effective stress, there was a small difference in the strength of the compacted pure soil and soil with the addition of RHF. For the undrained tests, the strength increased with the inclusion of husk, with a reduction of 50% in cohesion and an increment of 22% in friction angle for specimens containing RHF compared to the soil without RHF additions.

RESUMO Este trabalho teve por objetivo quantificar o estoque individual de biomassa e carbono fixado em Euterpe oleracea, por meio da análise de seus teores de carbono e da quantidade de biomassa seca. Foram analisadas 18 palmeiras, divididas nos compartimentos: fuste, parte comestível (palmito), raízes, folhagem e inflorescência (cachos e frutos). O material passou por secagem, pesagem, trituração e moagem, e pela determinação dos teores de carbono. A média dos teores de carbono fixo para os cachos e frutos foi 49,5%; raízes, 45,5%; folhagem, 42,8%; fuste, 41,2%, e parte comestível, 39,6%, com média ponderada de 43,1%.
