118. Nanoscale regulation of Ca2+ dependent phase transitions and real-time dynamics of SAP97/hDLG.

Abstract

Synapse associated protein-97/Human Disk Large (SAP97/hDLG) is a conserved, alternatively spliced, modular, scaffolding protein critical in regulating the molecular organization of cell-cell junctions in vertebrates. We confirm that the molecular determinants of first order phase transition of SAP97/hDLG is controlled by morpho-functional changes in its nanoscale organization. Furthermore, the nanoscale molecular signatures of these signalling islands and phase transitions are altered in response to changes in cytosolic Ca2+. Additionally, exchange kinetics of alternatively spliced isoforms of the intrinsically disordered region in SAP97/hDLG C-terminus shows differential sensitivities to Ca2+ bound Calmodulin, affirming that the molecular signatures of local phase transitions of SAP97/hDLG depends on their nanoscale heterogeneity and compositionality of isoforms. SAP97/hDLG is a ubiquitous, alternatively spliced, and conserved modular scaffolding protein involved in the organization cell junctions and excitatory synapses. Here, authors confirm that SAP97/hDLG condenses in to nanosized molecular domains in both heterologous cells and hippocampal pyramidal neurons. Authors demonstrate that in vivo and in vitro condensation, molecular signatures of nanoscale condensates and exchange kinetics of SAP97/hDLG is modulated by the local availability of alternatively spliced isoforms. 126. Detecting obstructive sleep apnea by extracting multimodal HRV features using ensemble subspace discriminant classifier

Abstract

Obstructive sleep apnea disorder is very peculiar sleep disorder which is triggered because of rapid and repeated transition of breathing. Hypopnea is also known as partial blockage of respiration during sleep. Polysomnography is gold standard to detect OSA but it is very expensive and complex which motivates us to detect OSA through multimodal heart rate variability (HRV) feature analysis using single channel ECG. The comparison among three classifiers SVM, weighted KNN and ensemble subspace discriminant are investigated for OSA detection. The accuracy obtained by the ESD classifier is 100%. True positive rate (TPR) and the true negative rate (TNR) have been attained 100% which is best suitable classifier for our experiment.

Abstract

Recent misuses of power in politics, corporate and religious arena have invigorated interest in dark side of leadership. This chapter sheds light on a menacing type of dark leadership—toxic leadership. Owing to the dearth of a comprehensive delineation of “toxic” leadership from its related phenomena, this chapter addresses the paucities and clarifies the nature, process, reasons and consequences of “toxic” leadership. It reviews, summarizes and integrates the existing literature on toxic leadership to draw nomological distinctions amongst different constructs of dark leadership and eventually presents stimulators and behavioral symptoms of toxic leadership. Few contemporary myths and detoxification measures are discussed to combat toxicity in a leader for a sustainable organization. The goal of the chapter is to reach our readers’ curiosity, enhance their frame of reference and bring new insights to educate them by providing guidelines and awareness about toxic leadership.

147. Stature estimation and its reliability in different types of dental alignment using the Carrea’s Index

Abstract

Introduction: Estimation of stature holds a special place in the field of forensic medicine. Objectives: This study was designed to investigate the ability of estimating stature from the dimensions of lower anterior teeth. Method: The study was carried out by taking the measurement from the mesio-distal widths of lower central incisor, lateral incisor and canine of 100 undergraduate students for examination. Each hemiarch was considered separately equaling 200 inferior hemi-arches, which were divided according to the dental alignment into normal, crowded and diastema and the measurements (arch and chord) were made with a ‘divider caliper’. Result: A statistically significant difference between the types of dental arch was obtained for both males and females with regards to the different dental alignments; higher correlation between stature the arch for normal alignment (r=0.9658; r =0.8347); moderate correlation for crowded alignment (r=0.8097; r =0.6958); and a weaker correlation for diastema (r = 0.656, r = 0.3938) for male & female respectively. The left side of the hemiarch showed a higher success rate (82%) in comparison to right side (72%). Statistically significant differences were also found between the types of arches for both right and left side (p<0.005). Conclusion: The present study would be useful for stature estimation to the forensic experts.
