Abstract

Introduction: Hearing loss, arterial hypertension, stress, sleep disturbance, and impaired cognitive performance. Material and methods: The occupational noise exposure study was carried out at paint factory after the acoustic remediation action. The equivalent continuous A-weighted sound pressure level was done according to Italian legislation on occupational safety and UNI 9432:2011 standard; The daily cumulative noise exposure dose was evaluated for each group of workers with different work tasks. Results: The equivalent continuous A-weighted sound pressure levels were lower than 85 dB that is the which is the value above which the Italian law requires the use of personal protection device. The results obtained show that all the workers grouped for work tasks fall into the classes of non-significant (ICA =0) or low (ICA =1) noise risk. Conclusion: The study showed that the implementation of acoustic reclamation, if well designed, can significantly reduce worker exposure to noise.

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to prove that Diversity Management is the management strategy able to pursue the multiple (social, sporting and economic) objectives of the sport activity. Sport is one of the main areas in which the relationships between individuals are developed, and in a "globalized" socio-economic context like the current one, in order to ensure sustainable development over time, it becomes necessary to better manage "diversity". In this regard, the paper assumes the adoption of the Diversity Management approach also for the sports context, in order to generate the many benefits that, nowadays, already characterize the companies whose management is based on the principles of this model.

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to show that sport activity, bolstered by the social, educational and cultural principles that govern it, can contribute in a positive and concrete way to the management of diversities. The current socio-economic context is characterized by the phenomenon of globalization, which requires a plurality of different relationships between individuals that are different from each other for different reasons, which can vary from the race to the cultural and economic status, up to the physical or mental conditions. So managing optimally the concept of diversity becomes a primary objective to guarantee the sustainable social and economic development in time. In this connection, sport is identified as one of the few sectors able to manage diversity through an effective and efficient strategic approach that produces educational, cultural, social and economic benefits for the community.

Abstract

The aim is to highlight the value of education of physical activity related to the diversification of special educational needs, which requires a participation context at school according to International Classification Functioning, Disability and Health, which means the pathway from the school integration to the social inclusion, in other words it is a new educational vision where the context helps through body and movement all people, included those with disadvantage. Today, people with special educational needs, included disabled one, require adequate service measures in delivery models for achieving goals for adequate participation and development rights. It recognizes the crucial role assumed from the physical activity and its value on socioaffective realization for everyone compatible with disability or the disadvantage. It emerges the needs to promote physical-inclusive activity that gives the opportunity to learn through body experience in movement in order to relation between the emotions, experiencing its own physicality playing and having fun in view of the educational aims that they go far beyond pure performance and competitive environment.

Abstract

The anomalies of the basilar artery are rare when compared with those ones pertaining to the circle of Willis vessels. Partial duplication or fenestration is rather common (0.6% to 1.8% in the angiographic descriptions); on the other hand, other anomalies, including complete duplication, hypoplasia and aplasia are exceptional. A rare case of segmental hypoplasia of the basilar artery in a 49-year-old man with transient vertebrobasilar (VB) ischemia, explored by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and digital angiography (DA), is reported. The embryology, the clinical relevance and the magnetic resonance findings of this arterial anomaly are discussed, with a review of other six reported cases. The appearance of a segmental aplasia was suggested in our case by MRI, and successively confirmed not only by time-of-flight MR-angiography (TOF-MRA) but also by DA. Only ultrathin-slice T2-weighted (w) images revealed the real finding of basilar artery (BA) hypoplasia; this sequence, not employed in previously reported cases, is mandatory to allowing a clear differential diagnosis between BA aplasia and hypoplasia. In conclusion, segmental hypo-aplasia of the BA is an exceptional embryological anomaly. This anomaly may be of clinical importance, and it should be considered among the potential causes of vertebrobasilar insufficiency in young adults. Abstract

Exercise and insulin and exercise are the most relevant stimulators of glucose transport in skeletal muscle. Glucose uptake in skeletal muscle during exercise involves acceleration of several processes compared to the resting state. The scientific literature hould put more emphasis on the role played by muscle contraction to enhance glucose uptake with insulin-independent mechanisms. Indeed, a search on Pub Med using the key words "contraction and glucose uptake and muscle" gives 566 reports, while a search using the key words "insulin and glucose uptake and muscle" cites 4156 publications (May,2009). This chapter describes extensively the mechanisms permitting the insulinindependent glucose uptake in response to muscle utilization during exercise. The muscle contraction stimulates GLUT4 translocation in the absence of insulin. There are different intracellular "pools" of GLUT4, one stimulated by insulin and one stimulated by exercise. The roles exerted by AMPK, AICAR, calcium, NO, glycogen and hypoxia in the glucose uptake during exercise are underlined. The consequences of these phenomena on human wellness are discussed. Furthermore, the scarce treatment of insulin-independent glucose uptake in scholastic textbooks is underlined, to induce authors to treat this important argument more extensively.

Abstract

This expert commentary reports the role exerted by cerebral cortex in the thermoregulation. Generally, the thermoregulation is described almost exclusively with the role of the hypothalamus, while the control exerted by other cerebral structures is not sufficiently underlined. Also the influences of cerebral cortex on body temperature are neglected. Indeed, a search on “PubMed” with the words “thermoregulation and cerebral cortex” reports only 261 articles, while the search of the words “thermoregulation and hypothalamus” produces 2485 papers. This commentary underlines especially the experimental evidences regarding the effects of functional decortication (obtained with cortical spreading depression) on thermogenic changes due to various conditions in different experimental models.
