This research aimed at verifying the existence of correlation between orthographic variation and social class in first names spelling of candidates of courses of Medicine, Dentistry, Letters and Pedagogy of the vestibular contest of 2013 of the Western Paraná State University (UNIOESTE) – Campus of Cascavel. The research was made based on two analysis: of the candidates first name spellings and of their responses to a social economical questionnaire. The analysis of the later data confirmed that while the majority of candidates of Medicine and Dentistry undergraduate course came from the economical elite of the society, the majority of Letters and Pedagogy students came from more popular social classes. According to the analysis of the candidates names conducted, this social class distinction did not led to great differences among first names of each group of candidates as standard spelling prevail in both, although on feminine names the rate of non-standard spelling is higher than on masculine names.

Maritime transport has received little attention in sustainability transitions research. This sector is mature and heterogeneous, which suggests the need for a more nuanced perspective on socio-technical regimes to understand variation in conditions for adoption of novel technologies that may support sustainability transitions. We consider this important in order to develop more efficient policy to decarbonize the shipping sector. We develop a framework that explicitly differentiates task and institutional environment of user regimes, enabling us to identify regime segmentation and its influence on three key transition conditions: technology maturity and fit, system integration and infrastructure, and acceptability and legitimacy. We apply our framework to analyse development and uptake of battery-electric energy storage solutions within three segments (coastal ferry, coastal fishing, and offshore supply) of Norwegian coastal shipping. Our analysis suggests that the transition process unfolds along different pathways in different user segments, pointing to a need for segment-specific policy instruments.

Asset tokenisation is expected to have an impact on the financial services industry in the future. This paper examines the necessity for traditional custodians to enter tokenised markets to propose a future operating model for traditional custodians. We explore the advantages, such as leveraging regulatory expertise and existing customer bases and challenges, including the adoption of new technology stacks involved in such a model. Our proposed operating model utilises a blockchain infrastructure that relies on the use of tokens that spans both traditional and digital assets to create an automated platform. This platform can include the automation of credit risk and liquidity across multi-asset classes and multi-jurisdictional operations. Notably, our model introduces two types of tokens: value tokens (the fully digital or tokenised assets as well as tokenised money) and proxy tokens (among others, representing traditional assets). While value tokens carry value and represent tokenised assets, proxy tokens do not carry value. These proxy tokens are an internal representation of traditional assets that can facilitate managing the intra-day liquidity and extended credit lines offered to customers. Within our proposed operating model, all transaction instructions, whether in the traditional or tokenised realm, are streamlined through a unified 'instruction worklist'. Abstract Background Besides their ability to produce several interesting bioactive secondary metabolites, members of the Fusarium solani species complex comprise important pathogens of plants and humans. One of the major obstacles in understanding the biology of this species complex is the lack of efficient molecular tools for genetic manipulation. Results To remove this obstacle we here report the development of a reliable system where the vectors are generated through yeast recombinational cloning and inserted into a specific site in F. solani through Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation. As proof-of-concept, the enhanced yellow fluorescent protein (eYFP) was inserted in a non-coding genomic position of F. solani and subsequent analyses showed that the resulting transformants were fluorescent on all tested media. In addition, we cloned and overexpressed the Zn(II)2Cys6 transcriptional factor fsr6 controlling mycelial pigmentation. A transformant displayed deep red/purple pigmentation stemming from bostrycoidin and javanicin. Conclusion By creating streamlined plasmid construction and fungal transformation systems, we are now able to express genes in the crop pathogen F. solani in a reliable and fast manner. As a case study, we targeted and activated the fusarubin (PKS3: fsr) gene cluster, which is the first case study of secondary metabolites being directly associated with the responsible gene cluster in F. solani via targeted activation. The system provides an approach that in the future can be used by the community to understand the biochemistry and genetics of the Fusarium solani species complex, and is obtainable from Addgene catalog #133094. Nothing lasts forever, including the effect of chemicals aimed to control pests in food production. As old pesticides have been compromised by emerging resistance, new ones have been introduced and turned the odds back in our favour. With time, however, some pests have developed multi-pesticide resistance, challenging our ability to control them. In salmonid aquaculture, the ectoparasitic salmon louse has developed resistance to most of the available delousing compounds. The discovery of genetic markers associated with resistance to organophosphates and pyrethroids made it possible for us to investigate simultaneous resistance to both compounds in approximately 2000 samples of salmon lice from throughout the North Atlantic in the years 2000–2016. We observed widespread and increasing multiresistance on the European side of the Atlantic, particularly in areas with intensive aquaculture. Multiresistant lice were also found on wild Atlantic salmon and sea trout, and also on farmed salmonid hosts in areas where delousing chemicals have not been used. In areas with intensive aquaculture, there are almost no lice left that are sensitive to both compounds. These results demonstrate the speed to which this parasite can develop widespread multiresistance, illustrating why the aquaculture industry has repeatedly lost the arms race with this highly problematic parasite.
