Eccrine poroma is a benign adnexal tumor that originates from the uppermost portion of the intraepidermal eccrine duct. It usually presents as a solitary tumor. Histopathology shows a monomorphic proliferation of cuboidal cells, which radially extend from the basal layer to the dermis. Here, we present a rare multilesional eruption of eccrine poroma after chemotherapy and bone marrow stem cell transplantation for acute promyelocytic leukemia along with a description of clinical, pathological, and dermoscopic findings. Introduction: Psoriasis is one of the most common chronic inflammatory diseases, affecting about 3.5% of the population. Despite psoriasis carries a high risk of morbidity, few epidemiological studies provide estimates on the prevalence of psoriasis in children. Aim: The objective of this study is to report the frequency of children and adolescents diagnosed with psoriasis at Instituto Dermatologico y Cirugía de Piel "Dr. Huberto Bogaert Díaz" (IDCP-DHBD) between March 2007 and March 2012. Material and Methods: Examination were done on 76 children and adolescents with psoriasis confirmed by histopathological examinations at the IDCP DHBD in the Dominican Republic between March 2007 and March 2012. The data was retrospectively reviewed to assess age, gender, clinical localization, treatment modalities and delay in diagnosis. Results: The frequency of children and adolescents with psoriasis among dermatological patients was 0.96 cases for every 10,000 patients seen in the Institute. There were 43 (56.6%) girls and 37 (43.4%) boys. The mean age of onset was 14 years. Children from 0-2 years, were the least affected with 3% of the cases. The most frequent site of onset were the trunk (28.8%) and the scalp (27.4%). 67% of the patients had 2 or more sites involved. The mean delay in diagnosis was 6 months. Topical therapy was the treatment of choice in all the patients except one. Conclusions: Even though psoriasis may cause a profound impact on the quality of life of children and adolescents the epidemiological data in the countries of Central America and the Caribbean is scarce. Background: Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the USA. Therefore, it is important to review the contribution of ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure to skin cancer in individuals with the highest risk. Documenting the relationship between outdoor sports solar ultraviolet exposure and their risk of skin cancer along with appropriate risk mitigation strategies can help inform clinicians of practical information for counseling sun protective behaviors in this population. Methods: We conducted a review of the current evidence using PubMed to answer the following research questions: (1) How is ultraviolet radiation measured? (2) What is the modern utility of the ultraviolet index in modifying recreational sun protection behaviors? (3) What is the risk of developing skin cancer for outdoor sport participants? (4) What is the prevalence of skin cancer in sport participants? and (5) Is the number of nevi and solar lentigines elevated in outdoor sport participants? Results: Based on the literature, individuals who practice outdoor sport-related activities receive high ultraviolet radiation exposure, have a high risk for skin cancer, have a high prevalence for pigmented lesions, and may benefit from electronic sun protection educational interventions. Conclusions: Individuals who practice outdoor sports experience substantially higher ultraviolet radiation exposure, routinely exceed the recommended exposure limits, and are at a higher risk of developing skin cancer. Therefore, those who are frequently engaged in outdoor leisure activities should be coached about efficient sun protective practices and relevant mobile technologies that may facilitate adherence. The article discusses the Follicular Occlusion Triad (FOT), which consists of acne conglobata, chronic hidradenitis suppurativa, and dissecting scalp cellulitis, with the tetrad including pilonidal sinus formation. The FOT is characterized by hyperkeratosis leading to blockage of pilosebaceous orifices and the development of sinuses with purulent drainage. The review analyzes existing literature on FOT, examining its demographics, clinical characteristics, and treatment outcomes. The study found that FOT most commonly occurs in middle-aged males and disproportionately affects non-Caucasians. Treatment approaches varied, but isotretinoin, surgery, and oral/IV antibiotics were the most successful. A subset of Spitz tumors harbor fusions of NTRK3 with ETV6, MYO5A, and MYH9. We evaluated a series of 22 melanocytic tumors in which an NTRK3 fusion was identified as part of the diagnostic workup. Tumors in which NTRK3 was fused to ETV6 occurred in younger patients were predominantly composed of epithelioid melanocytes and were classified by their histopathologic features as Spitz tumors. In contrast, those in which NTRK3 was fused to MYO5A were predominantly composed of spindled melanocytes arrayed in fascicles with neuroid features such as pseudo-Verocay bodies. To further investigate the effects of the fusion kinases ETV6-NTRK3 and MYO5A-NTRK3 in melanocytes, we expressed them in immortalized melanocytes and determined their subcellular localization by immunofluorescence. ETV6-NTRK3 was localized to the nucleus and diffusely within the cytoplasm and caused melanocytes to adopt an epithelioid cytomorphology. In contrast, MYO5A-NTRK3, appeared excluded from the nucleus of melanocytes, was localized to dendrites, and resulted in a highly dendritic cytomorphology. Our findings indicate that ETV6-NTRK3 and MYO5A-NTRK3 have distinct subcellular localizations and effects on cellular morphology.

Current methods of assessing immunohistochemistry center on semiquantitative visual grading scales. More objective methods utilizing digital quantification offer superior precision and, presumably, higher confidence with image comparison. However, their cost often remains prohibitive, and there is little customizability to separate subsections of interest in the tissue. Here we describe a method using two open-source software programs to analyze the intensity and density of signals in immunohistochemistry-stained tissue sections that account for tissue heterogeneity and allow for direct comparison between two samples. This method allows for quantitative assessment of epidermal protein expression. We herein demonstrate this workflow using an epidermal stain tothymic stromal lymphopoietin.
